Pearsall has made math fun. Don't expect any lectures thought. Everything is in groups. He walks around and helps you if you need it. Tests are easy if you show up for the review the day before. I'm going to try and take him for Statway B if I can.
i recommend this professor to anyone. he is super helpful and will teach you until you learn. very clear methods of teaching. not a tough grader. gives partial credit on problems. hands down the best math professor i had. thank you professor pearsall for a great experience
Wonderful professor. Explains concepts very clearly and super helpful during office hours.I highly recommend taking a class with him.
He is easily one of the best math teachers I have ever had! He is really passionate about math and he cares about every student in there! I highly recommend taking a class taught by him, he reminded me why I love math!
The greatest teacher at pierce for business calc. He really helps you if you don't understand a problem. Gives partial credit on test. Has great test reviews. Overall, a really nice guy.
Really hard but really good. Explains math clearly. But you better have everything memorized because he doesn't let you use notes, which made trig really hard. But it was worth it because I feel real prepared for precalc. I am taking him again next semester for Math 260. Also, he is always available in his office during office hours.
Awful GRADING system. His tests are super hard. he offers a study guide but the test is no where near the things you learn from the study guide. Very Tricky Exam... The test is mostly True or false, and fill in the blank n explain why is T or F. I'm here to learn calculus and solve problems. i don't want to sit down and explain True or False. Q's
STAY AWAY! Pearsall is the type of guy who would teach the basic calculus and then will test you on some logic calculus like if the f(x) c then the derivative is continuous. True or false questions through out the whole exams with explaining why. and fill in the blank. I really struggled in the class just because problems like that. DONT TAKE!
His lectures are pretty clear as he uses examples from the book. The thing is that he only uses the easy examples which anyone can do so the homework can be really hard. The tests are horrible, half of it is conceptual and true and false questions. Take him if you are willing to study day and night.
i don't usually rate professors but for this guy i just had to. i studied day and night for every exam and every problem from the book but when he gave out the test it felt like i was in a philosophy class mix with calculous. bc Every Question on his exam was either true or false and explain why. alot people struggled because of those questions.
He does go over the homework and any problems you have but still The average class was a D because his tests were super hard . Tests are mostly theoretical and thinking logically as mostly fill in the blank for each test with a final that was 10 pages long. Don't take him unless you want your GPA dropped.
I don't recommend him. If you want a challenging class take him or else take some other professor. He's also very rude to his students hopfully some one in higher power sees this and takes action about it.
He is awesome!
Very difficult class with a difficult professor the way he structures his exams is unreal
His tests are unbelievably hard. Much of the class drops. I was able to barely pass the class after taking his final yesterday with a C. Also, only gives us one day to do online hw that takes about 3.5 hours to do and said it shouldn't take that long. Had a bad attitude and tended to be pretty rude to other students. Will never take him again.
He was often really rude to students and tests were hard. I didn't like his method of teaching. I was afraid to even ask for help due to his rudeness so I taught myself and went for tutoring in the library and barely managed to get a B. I do not recommend him.
Solid math teacher. Great at explaining things so that they make sense. Exams are TOUGH. Really theoretical, and they really test your knowledge and critical thinking skills. Final was way too long, almost 10 pages! Barely had time to finish. Managed to pass with a B, maybe that's cause i took him for winter. Otherwise, I'd recommend him.
One of the hardest professors at pierce, his tests are extremely hard. he does go over homework and makes everything clear, but when the test comes its a whole different ball game. i went to tutoring and studied day and night and passed with a C, if you like critical thinking problems then take him, other wise if you don't. it will hurt your GPA.
Pearsall is the worst teacher I have ever had. He is very rude. During group time he will literally kick your backpack out of the way and move your chair while you're still in it. He has no people skills what so ever. He teaches the easy questions and then tests you on the hard questions. His teaching methods make no sense. WORST TEACHER!
Truly excellent. I didn't like that he did books examples for lecture, but he does set u up for success. There is in-class group work. So u automatically have a study group if u are shy like me, and if u take advantage of that it helps a lot. Major +s: Grades promptly, never late. Just do hw, and classwork. He really makes sure u get all concepts.
Tough concepts but walked you through them. Taught you how to do a math proof. Online HW was annoying but pretty easy. His true falose questions on tests were hard because you had to explain your answer. Made you feel like you were learning a really important subject. After you get to know him he is very funny. I would take him again.
This was by far the most CHALLENGING class I have ever taken, but I was rewarded with an A thanks to the professor. He was always available when I bugged him in his office for extra help, and he always helped me. I had to work EXTREMELY HARD in this class so don't take him if you want an easy A. He will make you work!
He is very clear when explaining problems. If you have a question, he is willing to help. The exams were mostly based off his lectures. He would sometimes offer an extra credit problem on the exams. He graded fairly. Overall very knowledgeable and a good teacher.
prof. Pearsall is a great professor. Slowly explain the Theorem and Fundamental of materials so students can have strong basic to solve problems. Online Homework sometimes can be annoying, 2 sections graded before every meeting. Drops lowest test and always available in his Office Hours. His test was based on what he covered in class.
Professor Pearsall is AMAZING! I would definitely take his class again. Attendance is mandatory because he does 2 chapter sections every class meeting so it's a lot of information to take in. He allows a cheat sheet for every exam but that doesn't mean you don't need to study. The tutoring lab really does help! Exams based on the mini lectures.
I really struggled in Int Alg and he helped me through it. I wasnt passing and he helped me with the MET and I got a C. Thank you prof Pearsal for helping me with math!
Having already taken and passed Calc 1, this class was easy for me. He goes over two sections a lecture so show up. He even prints the notes out for you. Online HW was the worst thing! It will take you over an hour sometimes for 1 section. Overall he's cool and lets you use a big cheat sheet on all his tests. If you need math238 take it with him
Failed his class the first time I took him decided to take him again because he cares about students got a C this time. He really helped me out not only with math but personally. I would take him for Calc 1 if he was teaching it.
I took him for precalc over summer so it was a lot more difficult than it would have been taken over a regular semester. He took attendance very seriously, gave a lot of worksheets that had nothing to do with the topic most of the time, very irritable. He gave sample exams, which he discussed before the test, then asked the same q's on the test.
He makes the material super hard and his exams are real difficult i dont recommend him
awful teacher and never take with him again
I love him - he's the best math teacher I have had here are Pierce. Explains things clearly and is funny, but he is not easy.
Pay very close attention during the reviews/ lectures prior to the exams. He will tell you what exactly is going to be on the exam, you're not always going to be tested on every single homework section. The higher up you move in math, the harder it's going to get no matter the prof. Keep up with the homework and visit his office.
Very helpful when my mom was in the hospital and I couldnt finish homework he opened it up for me.
Great great great! Gets you well prepared for tests. Always was helpful in his office. I don't think there is a calculus problem he can't solve. Too bad he doesn't teach 263.
Took online. Lots of work. I email him and he responds fast. I did well on final test.
I really struggle with math and he helped me out. I worked really hard, did all of the homework, abd went for extra help in his office. Bearly got a C but I would have failed if not for him. Very caring and helpful. I wish he was teaching Stats but hes not. Would have taken him again.
Hes really good made everything clear. This is the 2nd time ive taken the class and this time I understood it. Hes scary if you make him mad. He called the police on somebody who didnt bring their book to class!
I've never seen any professors like him at the Pierce college. He is a unique person. He explains everything (details). He cares about every single of his students. He always has time for his students. Also, he is available at the specific time at CAS to help his students with their homework. Believe me or not he is one of the best math professors
His lectures are very clear and if you listen to them, you will pass your tests very easily. Overall, he wants to see that you are working on the problems and understand them. He put a lot of efforts in his lectures and also wants the mutual effort from his students. Study, show in class you will pass.
If there are any negative comments on him, ignore them. He is honestly an amazing professor. He will go to lengths to make sure you understand the material, and explains in amazing detail. He is so good! Do your homework (online) and do the practice problems he gives you, and you will be find. Also, communicate with him. He is so great!
Professor Pearsall is the dream Calculus II professor. His lectures are clear and he provides practice exams for every exam. Make sure you are able to solve every problem on these practice exams and you will get an A. Just put in the work necessary and you will excel!
Pearsal is the best! Best math teacher I have ever taken. He is so clear and gives great feedback. Pearsal is also extremely caring too. I took him for Calc 1 & 2 and thought he was great both times. I dont know why he has some bad reviews, I highly recommend him. You will have to study, but if you pay attention during lecture you will be fine.
He is an amazing Math Professor. The first day of class he depicted himself as very stern and uptight but as the semester has gone on he has been delightful. His class is difficult, but he teaches very well. I will definitely be taking him for Calc 2
Professor Pearsall is the best math professor I have taken so far at Pierce. There is a lot of MISCONCEPTION about him here so let me clear this up. He is not super hard and he even gives you a practice test before the actual tests which are literally the same questions. He is a traditional professor so he is stern but I like that environment.
Excellent professor who seemed tough and demanding at first but turned out to be very nice guy who cares about his students and their education. His lectures are great and the tests come straight from them so they are very passable if you study your notes.
He seems easy just because he doesnt care about his students. His lectures are the same if you stay home and watch youtube. You are going to love him because he will not challenge you but simultaneously he doesnt care if you get an A, B, or C. He will not do a step to help you to improve your knowlege and grade. Your grade is your problem.
I usually sit in the middle, but I sat in the corner very concerned because we all know Math 260 and up involves serious work. Turns out the professor is the kindest person in the world. He would stop class just to reach out to anyone lost. Even silly questions he would take the time and clarify. I forgot how scared I was with math.
I have been in the college 3 years. My GPA was 3.93. The only B I had was in Chemistry 101. In this course Math 240, I got an C. My input in this class was greater than output. He grades by few things. His lectures were just reading a book. His office hours were helpless. No extra credits. He didnt do a step to help me to improve my score
Pearsall clearly tells you what he wants before every exam and the study guides are practically identical to the exams which is very helpful. He always has an embedded tutor who is super helpful for the test (basically gives you answers and solutions to your questions). Only problem is that the homework is crazy hard but he drops some of them.
Dont sit in the back or he will never answer your questions. I promise. Whats worse than a professor with a horrible attitude who comes to class late? I dropped out of Pierce College because of him.
He is one of my fav professor in pierce and he just make linear algebra easy to learn. He will do everything to help you understanding the math. Really nice and adorable professor. Take him!!!!!
Trig is 3 units. Yet the amount of work given and needed to study is 5. Prof writes in cursive so if you miss what he said he hates being stopped. Its a math class you should be writing in cursive. Exams are super hard nothing he does in class or say is ever put on the exam. -.- clearly a problem when half he class drops
I love him! This is the second time I've taken him. Best math explainer. He demands alot, so if you don't take it seriously you will die in his class. He expects you to remember everything from previous classes. I have never worked so hard in a class until now but I am taking him for Calc 3 because I am learning so much.
the best professor I've ever had if you are not good at math you should take with him because he explains everything step by step, you need just do your homework on time.
Dont listen to the people complaining about this guy. He gives you everything you need to succeed and if you dont wait til the day before the test to do the homework then youll be fine. Tests are the exact same thing as the homework and professor is happy to answer questions and help you in his office hours. You get out what you put in.
Class is hard but he is good. A lot of material for only 3 units though, not his fault. Proofs can be difficult but he only asks you the ones he did in class. Took him for 275 also - I like this class better. Much easier. He's a good explainer.
This is by far one of the hardest things I have ever done because I am not good at math, but Professor Pearsall was always willing to help when I came to his office or when I emailed him. He can be very intimidating when you first meet him but after you get to know him he is a great person. And funny too but get ready to work hard.
One of my favorite math profs from pierce. Lectures are clear and concise. He gives you examples of what he expects you to be able to do. Tests are all easy- mid difficulty problems from homework. Not an easy class but not overly difficult either. Very caring and funny professor. Will answer any questions you have. Very fair.
One of the best math professors at Pierce, he explains everything very well and answers any questions you have. Really helped prepare us for the MET. Gave us extra credit opportunities. Show up to class everyday and do all the hw to pass.
One of the best professors in pierce! Amazing lectures, amazing personality. Easy A if you go to the class and do the homework. Explains things really well and a nice grader! I love him! But don't bother taking him unless you care because only nice people should get this opportunity.
Math is not my subject, naturally I find it hard. Prof. Pearsall is amazing! Yes, lots of work, BUT it is needed to learn the course work. He was always there for me when I needed clarification and responds promptly to emails. If you need to take 125 take it w/him,BUT be ready to work. Cant blame the teacher when the student doesnt do their end.
Caught me off guard he was facilitating the class with 3 different books. He stopped using Willeys; the in-class tutor was a joke. He stopped giving reviews & samples. Places extra credit inside the tests so it ruins the curve. Feels like junior high in class. Come in late makes fun of you in front of everyone. Makes you sign in & out mandatory.
He's one of the most knowledgeable math professors. I don't think there is a question he cannot answer. The exams are not too hard if you do the home works and he helps if you have a problem understanding a topic.
Best prof at Pierce I love this guy. Do ALL the homework carefully do the worksheets read the text book and do the extra credit an the exams and yll get an A no problem. It amazed me how people got suprised that they actually had to do work for this class bc they were comparing it to their psychology classes lol if ur not serious about math, leave
Great prof. He is knowlageble and funny! But if you don't like math I wouldn't take him because he demands a lot. But if you are willing to put in the work it is worth it. Explained difficult problems really well. I am taking him for 263 and 270.
He seems to want to come off as intimidating and strict but he's actually a very nice guy and can be funny lol. Homework is the key to passing, if you understand how to do every problem you'll definitely be fine. Calculus is not easy and you have to put in the work, but he's a great professor. He wants to help so don't be hesitant to ask.
Okay, I took Professor Pearsall earlier this year and it presented many advantages. Here's why: -Gives extra credit (25 points). Gave many opportunities to pass, such as grading on a curve for tests, if your grade was higher before the MET he gave you that grade instead, gave credit for worksheets that increases your grade. He cares if you pass.
I even dont remember how he looks because all the time he stood face to the board and tried to avoid eye contact with the students. The only time he turned us his face was during instructors evaluation. Boring lectures , videos on YouTubes are more helpful. If I asked question he just repeated that he said without explanation
Explains calculus problems pretty well. His grades are almost all test based. He does offer graded worksheets to be done in class or taken home . Attendance is mandatory or he will threaten to drop you. Does assign ungraded homework from the book but is highly recommended as they are related to the test questions.
Took this professors online course. Lots of assignments and homework during the week. You got to keep up with the work and/or quizzes or you wont get a good grade. Study, take notes, and you can pass his class. No time for slacking.
Unusual for a math class you need to read the textbook to understand what he is saying. Exams are fair and problems come from the homework so youll be fine just do the homework. Hes a chill and easy going guy. He always seems like hes bored and wishes he be doing other things. If you are offended by dry sarcasm dont take him.
I took him in the summer for Calc 1. I worked really hard for my B. He knows how to do every calculus problem. He didn't make one mistake all summer. He is really into the applications. I am taking him again for Calc 3 but I heard he was really hard in that class, but I want to learn and not just get an easy grade.
so professional and respectful professor.
Pearsall is a hilarious and funny guy. He clearly tells you what is going to be on the tests and if you do the homework, you will get an A for sure. He is clearly a good professor and only those who didn't study will complain about how hard the class is.
He buries his face into the whiteboard so I dont know what he looks like. Hes a great professor for linear algebra. Literally the most straight up guy, hell tell you what will be on the test, so if you fail obviously you didnt do the homework. He also should make more eye contact with students. If you do the homework, easy A.
Very good i heard he was mean but he just expects you to work. I was out for a week and he helped me get caught up. Hes funny after you get to know him.
I also had professor Pearsall for trigonometry and I must say that prof P really cares about his students. As long as you do the problems he assigns and go to the lectures you will be fine, trust me!! Familiarize yourself with the HW and problems like them and you can get the easy A! The lectures really REALLY help and the notes prof P passes out!!
My grade was in the high 80s and he still gave me the A. The final was really hard but when I saw him in his office he told me because of my performance during the semester I deserved the A. He acts like hes tough but its all and act. Great professor who seems to know everything about math.
Prof. Pearsall is definitely one of the best math professors out there! He explains everything in clear detail and he will tell you exactly what is expected on exams so there are no surprises. If you do the homework, you will get a good grade for sure. Also, if you are a chemistry major he will make fun of you(in a good way).
I think it goes underappreciated just how great of a communicator of math professor Pearsall is. I had him for calc 1, linear algebra, and diff eq. Never will you see him be imprecise in what he writes or "hand wavy" in his explanations of proofs or concepts. And to top it all off, hes a really great guy as well (though don't tell him that).
If you memorize true and false hw questions as well as the proofs he went over in class and did at least tried the problems you should get an A on every exam. Questions on the exam are almost word for word from the homework. Good luck!
Definitely one of the hardest classes I have ever taken prob because i took it in winter. It was a ton of work but he was a great teacher. He really helped me out because I took algebra at Valley and didnt undertand anything. He's really funny too when you get to know him.
Professor Pearsall class was really easy. All you had to do was go through the modules and do the handouts which was straight to the point. His exams too are straight to the point and if you just do the modules the exams are pretty easy. He is chill and will help out as best as possible.
Professor Pearsall is a nice guy. His tests are easy if you do all your handouts and homeworks
Difficult and dont trust those comments... take math at the valley
Seriously, avoid this teacher if you want to boost your GPA!!!RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Sam is insightful, motivational & full of puns. The best math professor ever, he makes math super easy and intersting. Quizz amlost eveyweek he goes over similar quizz questions before the quiz. he truly cares about students. easy grader. There is no reason not to take him
You basically just go through the online textbook on Canvas and fill it out. The test questions are copy and pasted from the textbook quizzes. I kinda wished Prof. lectured instead of everyone just working at their computers. You learn some R coding which sounds hard, but is fairly easy. Not very engaging, but class was easy and prof. is nice
I took him for Math 262 in the summer. It was online so that made things difficult but he explained things so well I was able to understand the difficult stuff. I was scared of Calc 2 because my friends said it was hard but he made it great! I would definitely take him again!!
Don't take this professor online. I can imagine that taking his class in person is a completely different experience. Our class average on every exam is an F. He told the class that because were online (because of covid) he is making the exams extremely hard. I do all the homework but the tests are completely different than what he teaches in class
This professor was a great one! Would totally take him again. The subject itself is a little hard to understand but at any time if you have questions he is always willing to make sure you get a good answer. He gives partial credit on tests even if the answer is wrong. He is super respectful and cares about your education!
Pearsall has the most monotone voice of all time, constantly was falling asleep in lectures. Lectures are basically useless, since he reads the textbook to you, but he forces you to attend them. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR AN 8 AM! The only silver lining is his exams are crazy easy, but he will give you a stack of homework due beforehand. He's alright.
I don't think theres a problem he cant solve. He sent us an article he wrote on diff equations that explained it better than the book. If youre into math you will love him. Ive taken him before - he is better in person. I think I would have gotten an A if it wasnt for covid.
He was hard but I liked him. He was available for office hours and if you email him he will get back to you soon. He writes questions for the AP exam and quizzes were WAY to hard. If you're looking for an easy A take someone else. But I have friends who have took calculus with other profs and I know more than them, but I only got a B.
There was a lot of homework but the quizzes were easy. He's probably harder if it wasn't online. He really helps you out if you have problems. I got sick and couldn't take the final and he gave me a different one on another day. I'm going to take him again for 260.
Professor Pearsall is good at taking complex topics and making them clear. Not *easy*, mind you - it still takes lots of effort to understand and to practice - but he explains the concepts in ways that make them more accessible. His deadpan delivery conceals a great sense of humor, shades of "Steven Wright meets Ben Stein." Highly recommended!
Best math professor at Pierce, if you're a STEM major you'll love him. He cares about the students and want you to understand the concepts. Everyone I know that took his classes loved him and suggests him. Probably the best teacher at Pierce. He goes out of his way to teach and make sure you understand.
Great professor, his style is very by the book so if you need to study for his tests you can mostly just grind out problems and do very well in his class. Homework is due at test time giving you plenty of time to do homework and is not excessive, just enough to understand what you are doing.
Pearsall's lectures were very dry and largely consisted of reading out of the textbook. He'll deliver the content, but don't expect much help beyond that. Lots of homework from the book. He did a decent job structuring the course, and was very organized. Clear times for office hours. Exams were on the harder end but fair.
I actually had him for both 270 and 275. He's better in 275 but good in both. 270 a lot easier but not as straight forward. Always there for office hours and helps a lot. But if you don't remember your math from previous courses it will hurt you because he assumes you remember everything from the past! Nice and funny.
Took him over the summer during a 5-week course. Grades fairly, lots of homework but the tests are what really counts grade-wise. In my class he dropped the lowest test. To get an A you need to have a firm grasp of the material and put in the time, no way around it. If you don't know everything you won't get an A. He's good, not easy though.
I took both LA and ODE in one semester. The lectures are very clear and you won't find any videos or notes that explain the material better than him. The tests are time-sensitive and the questions on exams are 3X harder than homework. You have to solve the end-of-chapter questions on your own in order to pass. HW is heavy and not helpful for tests.
He is not like any other math profs. Be ready to get almost no notes in a diffs class. On top of that be ready to only rely on the book. He is nice but his lectures are just reading the book on a powerpoint. Ive taked all my calc series and this book is horrible. Its Dupremas book, confusing and prof does not do almost any examples.
Grading is straight-forward. But he puts material on tests that aren't mentioned in book or in his lectures. The hw/lectures don't help prepare you for tests at all. Doesn't explain problems well. He just opens up the solution in the book and reads it to you. Look elsewhere, there are much better math professors to take
He is the WORST teacher/professor I have ever had. Quizzes do NOT match the homework. The homework is easy, but the quizzes were difficult. The mean average grade for the first quiz was 54.1%. Mind you this was after 8% was added to everyone's grade for the curve. He explains useless stuff and is not clear. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Quizzes are much harder than the homework. He does not explain anything well. If you want to be able to comprehend calculus and get a good grade, do not take this professor. Run and find someone else.
Terrible professor. He is the absolute worst. Homework is easy (also is an absurd amount of work), but the quizzes and tests are extremely hard. He doesn't teach and practically just reads you the book. Find someone else.
If I could I would give him a zero. He is horrible at lecturing and only reads you parts of the textbook. All the practice questions and homework he gives have NOTHING to do with his quiz. Also, he made us spend $60 on a textbook platform equipped to give homework and tests yet he makes you do book work and quizzes BY HAND and submit PDFs.
This teacher's exams do not reflect the things you learn in the textbook. Bad professor, and bad business if you consider enrolling. The worst math professor I have ever had.
I took his class since he was rated about 4.5 on rmp when I enrolled. Clearly he has lost it this semester. I, along with many other individuals have decided to drop the class due to the horrible teaching and grading. We just took our first exam and had a class average around the 50% mark (a failing grade). Textbook is sh*t and so are his lectures
I was not a fan of his teaching style online because he read a lot out of the textbook. He knows what he is doing for sure but he goes through coursework really quickly. His quizzes are challenging but made great prep for the final. I ended the class with an 88. He gives a lot of busy HW though. Got a 98% on the final. I would take him again
I took him over the summer for 260 and got an A. This class was so much harder! His quizzes were extremely difficult, but they really prepared me for the final. I have friends who had him for 261 and 262 and said 262 was easy since you had him for 261. He explains things well and responds to emails fast. I am taking him again for 262.
I am going to pass this class finally because of him. He explains things well but he wants you to know a lot of geometry, which I never took. Go to his office hours, they pay off in the end. People said he was mean but I thought he was really nice.
I got an 87% and he gave me the A because I got an A on the final! He's really fair and nice! He's the best!
Took him for Calc 1 and now Calc 2. He was a lot harder in Calc 1 but I learned a lot and got a B so Idecided to take him again. He was a lot easier this semester and I got an A. He explains things well and go to office hours if you are having problems and you will be fine.
Not a bad professor but not great either, class schedule/outline was clear and easy to understand. lectures weren't great but good enough to learn what you needed. never assigned too much homework and it was actually helpful & relevant to the tests. tests/quizzes weren't too hard either. hes also pretty chill which is nice.
I am not good in math and I went to his office hours and he always was helpful and walked me thru the problems. He is nice once you get to know him. Lectures were not exciting but it is algebra. I wanted to take him for trig but he's not teaching it next semester.
He's very difficult but learned a lot. He is a good explainer. But the quizzes were much harder than the homework but I got an A on the final and an A for the class. He always helped me during office hour.
I'm going to take him again for stats. He was clear helped me a lot with hw during office hour. Hes nice too
I wanted to take another prof that I heard was easier but ended up with Pearsal. I heard he was hard but just the opposite for me. This class was much easier that calc 1 and he explains everything really well. I wanted to take him for calc 3 but he's not teaching it.
He can be boring, but I think that had more to do with Zoom than him. He really explains math well, much better than the confusing book he uses. He knows his stuff and he sent us an article he wrote about something we learned in class. Pearsall was always there during office hours and seemed nice.
I took this class during the Winter break for 5 weeks. It was a lot of work and very strange. Small class that got smaller after covid in the 2nd week. We went to Zoom except for quizzes, but he was good. He got me thru the class. I should have gotten a B by my percentage but he gave me an A prob cuz he felt sorry for me!
I took him for Calc 1 and 2. I had a good experience with him in both classes. He was harder in Calc 1 than Calc 2. He really helped me out during office hours. He seems mean but when you get to know him he is nice. He wrote a great college recommendation for me. You need to work for your grade though - he is not easy.
Professor Pearsall is a hidden gem at Pierce College. He is very helpful and clear on what he wants. Available outside of class and responds to emails quickly. Be prepared for a lot of homework but it prepares you for the test. I never liked math and always felt discouraged but prof Pearsall helped me in so many ways! Thank You!!
Tough class but you will learn a lot. Actually made me like proofs lol. If you have questions ask right away. Don't let them pile up because his class is fast paced and requires a lot of reading. He's helpful during office hours and replies back to emails immediately. He does care about his students. You'll enjoy his class if you're a math major.
The tests are usually curved a lot and you have 4 plus a final that are worth most of your grade. He always does at least one full day of review, sometimes two full days. Attendance is mandatory but if you talk to him about missing classes, he is very understanding.
I almost made the mistake of changing my major from Biology (pre-med) to math because of Sam. He is really into developing your math skills. You have such autonomy and he is such a great guy. His dog that made appearances is really cool too
Really good professor, one of the best math professors I had. If you study regularly, do the homework, and ask questions when you are stuck. You will do Great.
He reads lectures from the book, so get the book and add little comments to his explanations. Linear Algebra is hard to understand on your own. Do all the HW yourself to further understand the topic. If you don't, you wont be able to keep up. His exams are always covered in lectures. Write down his sample solutions & PROOF. Great professor overall
Thorough in his lectures. 4 HW packets, Online Hw, 4 exams + final exam. He uses the WileyPlus book a LOT. HW is pretty doable if you do them immediately. He has office hours three times a week, and I recommend going if you're having any trouble/ have any questions. He's very nice and approachable. Good luck!
excellent teacher and taught things very clearly and in a way that was easily understandable. he does assign lots of hw, both from the book and wiley plus, but it honestly helps so much with the tests. there are no quizzes, just 4 tests and he drops the lowest one, and a final. make sure to go to office hours because he is very helpful.
Lots of homework but this will help your grade a lot so make sure to do it and do not procrastinate on it. He does a class review on material before a test so make sure to go to those, as well as his office hours. No quizzes, only 4 tests and then a final, and drops the lowest test score. Go to lecture or else you will fall behind on lessons.
Willing to help so attend lectures and go to his office hours. My biggest advice will be is DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON THE HOMEWORK. There's both textbook and online HW so get started on them as soon as you finish the lecture. 4 Tests and 1 Final Exam.
One thing I love in Math professors is when they actually include hw problems on exams. There are no curveballs, very straightforward course. Prof. Pearsall is understanding and explains all the concepts clearly. He does not make you feel dumb for asking questions. Just make sure to not skip class. Definitely recommend!
Prof. Pearsall is fantastic. The course I took was condensed for a winter semester, so it was very fast and labor-intensive. Despite that, Prof. Pearsall always took time to answer every question and make sure that every student understood the material. He is very lenient in terms of classroom etiquette, as people came in late constantly.
Pearsall teaching style is doing a lot of example problems during class. Very little theory or proofs, which works perfectly for me. He gives A LOT of homework but grades only a completion. Most of the tests is straight from the homework, usually the harder problems. He's hilarious. He also takes the time to make sure you understand the material.
Amazing math teacher! Lecturing in simplest way and very easy to understand him. I wish I could take him for all of my math classes, but I was with him only in calc1. HW is some Waily plus questions that you gonna do them with pencil on paper, and some Waily plus online questions. Online ones are hard and the paper-pencil ones are normal to easy.
solid professor. his tests are based on examples you've done in class or some of the simpler questions in the textbook assignments. the only thing to be aware of is that there's no study guides or anything, just the homework you get (try not to fall behind it takes a while to do). willing to help and also makes jokes, overall a good professor
Lectures are clear, homework is representative of tests. He will readily explain something if you don't understand the first go. Lots of extra credit; I got a 106% in the class. Biggest downside is the lectures can become boring or monotonous, but it's a calculus class so don't expect an action movie.
Gives worksheets that are based on lecture and you have to keep correcting them for full credit. Tests are straightfoward, nothing too difficult, similar hwk problems were on the exam. Remember stuff from calc 1 and trig!!, otherwise this class will be hard for you. Don't skip lecture otherwise you will fall behind. textbook problems also for hwk.
Hw and exams. That's all you have. Hw is weighed heavily. If you do all of it tho you'll be absolutely prepped for the exams. Theyre based on the easier problems you'll work thru from the textbook. Man was there a lot of it tho for this class. Also, super dry guy, and not eager to help or easy to talk to. Not mean but just not personable. Dry humor
he is an amazing prof. i took him for calc 1 & 2 and he is great. his class is very straightforward - 4 exams (lowest one dropped), in class worksheets that are graded until you get 100%, and hw packets. as long as you do all the hw and worksheets, you'll be fine. the tests are just like the worksheets (i think more so than the hw packets)
He was probably my favorite math teacher I've ever had... and that's competing with many. His lectures are clear and concise, he has no problem answering questions, and always tries his absolute best to help his students. I almost took Calc 2 just for fun with him because I loved his course so much. Made math enjoyable despite difficulty.
Prof. Pearsall is amazing if you already know some math. He wants his students to pass, he is generous with his grading on exams if you show you tried. However, beware I say you should absolutely not take this class in summer if you have anything else going on. The Prof. Sends hw that averages 40-60 pages a week if you take him in summer.
Took him in my first second semester in Pierce for Calc 1. Lectures were probably the best thing out his class, since they were clear and basically made me needless for self teaching! 10/10 amazing class.
Professor Pearsall has a straightforward teaching system. Do the worksheets, homework, and prepare with Unstuck ai - you'll ace the curved exams. Attendance is mandatory but worth it.
I LOVE PROF PEARSALL!!!! OMG! He is the kindest professor you will ever have. His office hours are very helpful, he will sit down with you and answer all of your questions, gives half credit on tests even if you get a question totally wrong. he is the sweetest.
Just wanna start off by saying I absolutely suck at math so me passing proves that the teacher you sign up for MATTERS. He is very thorough with his lessons and does a great job at explaining. He made math easy to understand and never makes you feel silly for asking questions. Also very fair grading system. Very kind professor. 100% recommend!!
He explained every concept REALLY well. There was not a single question I felt unprepared for. I will say, to gain that understanding you have to attend the zooms or watch the lectures and actually pay attention and take notes. It's the easiest math class Ive taken, it will be for you too if you just pay attention. Not too much work at all.
I took this class during the Winter, but if you just study, you will be fine. He give's good lecture's and gives you time to do work with other. I don't know if it was because I took him during the winter, but she gave lots of worksheets. But great professor.
My favorite professor EVER on campus. He is the kindest human being alive and will do everything in his power to get you to succeed. Answered all questions and was always accessible during office hours. I miss taking him and wish he taught every math class.
Took precal with him in the fall. He was amazing. I'm bad at math but he really dummies it down in a way that is easy to understand. He does a lot of practice problems in class and is really helpful during office hours. His homework was sometimes tough though. Albert was harder than the practice problems done in class. STUDY.. and you'll be fine :)
Great professor! When showing new things he'll go through them step by step, and if you ask a question he'll do his best to explain it. If you get a question wrong on exams/quizzes you can still get points for it if you were going in the right direction. The textbook he used was good, it consistently brought up past topics so you wouldn't forget.
Great professor, knows how to get along with his class, grades fairly, no extra credit but curves the tests depending on how well the class did.
Great professor. Tests are straightfoward and he is nice when explaining things. Lots of hwk but if you treat it as studying you will be fine. He curves tests which kept saving my grade. Remember proofs he does in class, true and false questions in hwk, and redo problems in each chapter. If you have taken his other classes before, format is similar
Took his Linear Algebra class, started with lots of homework, which was essential to get the fundamentals down. Has a great way of explaining on how to visualize concepts in a general sense, occasionally connects the latest material to the previous one to solidify our understanding and genuinely wants his students to learn.
Professor Pearsall is a decent teacher but pretty tough. I got an A, but mostly scored in the 80s on the tests. Homework is free points, but grading is weird, and no study guides just a vague idea the day before the test. All homework is due on test day which is good and bad. If you want an easier time, take Proffesor Shwesky instead.
Professor Pearsall is a very rare kind of teacher in the STEM field. Someone who genuinely wants to see people succeed and learn. I cannot count the amount of times I have been helped by him in full detail on how to do certain problems. Without him, calc 2 and 3 would have been utter hell. Super kind, office hours almost every day. Grades VERY fast
Winter. Amazing prof, overall class was pretty easy. Exams weren't that hard, questions were very similar to homework or worksheets he gave us. Some of the questions were actually the same as the ones found in hw. No extra credit. 5 exams. Lowest score dropped. Just study and make sure to do the hw cause it's part of your grade and you'll get an A.
Overall good class and prof, i had worse before. Exams are harder than hw and worksheets he gave us. But I guess if you study a lot and have a good base from Math 260 and 261, you'll be good. Extra credit are offered in the exams (4 exams + 200 points finals). Lowest dropped. Prof. Howie's class was way easier and less topics were done.
I took Precalc this summer. Lots of work but he was very good at explaining material. He's been teaching forever and that helps. Seems mean at the beginning but after you get to know him he is very nice and helpful, especially during groupwork. He is not easy but if you want to learn the math he was great and i feel prepared for calc.
His lectures are a bit boring, but it could be because it was 8P & everyone was exhausted. Don't depend on lectures as your source of learning though, his office hours are better for a deeper understanding. He tends to brush briefly on topics, which can be difficult if you have a different learning style. That being said, he is a great professor!
His lectures were amazing to be a part of, doesn't make the class boring at all. Participation matters and he will remember you and put that into consideration for your grade!! The course itself is difficult but he makes it bearable.
Sam pearsall is the GOAT of all math professors. His class is clearly laid out and he is a fair grader. You will definitely learn in his class, and to be honest whatever grade you get is on you. Good lectures, he's always available to ask questions and he's just the goat trust take him.
