This teacher is great! He is very helpful, he goes out of his way to help you. and assign very little homework. take him!

Mr. Soleymani is a very good professor he teaches very well,also he was very helpful and understanding, kind of funny. I enjoy his class alot. Even though it was a math class he made it kind of fun. I recomend his class.

BEST MATH TEACHER AT SMC HANDS DOWN!!! If you have trouble in math he's your guy. He reallly breaks it down for you and is really willing to help you out. Professor Soleymani is a really nice and helpful teacher. He is very clear and understanding to students. When he solves a question, he gives all the steps, which makes us easier to understand. I would just recommend all of you to take him if you want an A. However, its important that you have to make an effort from your side too.

Sam Soleymani is the best math teacher i I have had in my entire life. He truly makes you interested in the subject, even if you're a math hater. He explains everything so everyone understands. He has been a tutor which makes him even better to teach students. A plus is that he is very funny, telling jokes almost every class.

Excellent math teacher - I was intimidated by Prof. at first, but he's v. approachable and v. funny. While inspirational to have for the A student, he's more important if you are avg. or below-avg. in math (like I am). He breaks down solutions clearly in class - makes you want to work harder. But be sure to do your hmwk/study as the class is fast.

mr.soleymani is the best MATH professor@SMC. i suck at math but he has helped me alot. he works with the students, keeps a friendly,comfortable relationship. his explanaitions are crystal clear,he knows whats hard for students and whats not so he elaborates more clearly when needed.this professors jokes actually make me laugh! I feel so fortunate to have been taught by Mr. Soleymani as I now have a completely new outlook on Math. I used to hate it but after going to his classes he makes it so interesting, his explanation of math is crystal clear and he's very funny. Not to mention really cute! :) He is the greatest proffesor! Sam's the BEST math teacher who actually KNOW how to teach clearly & made sure everyone understands. He should really consider teaching @ a university. It's fascinating to see how he defines all the math terms w/o looking into the book/notes; very knowledgeable! Oh yea, he's HOT + hilarious! Lucky to be his students :)

Professor Soleymani is a great teacher. Math has alwyas been a scary subject for me but he made it very clear. He also makes the class go by fast because he is really funny. he had the whole class laughing while teaching a lesson. i definitly reccommend him if you struggle with math!

Sam is a FUN professor, just pay attention, don't let the homework pile up, and PAY ATTENTION like crazy. He's not hard, he just gives you a lot of information at first. Then you get used to it.

For those of you who hate/are scared of anything to do with numbers, take this guy. He knows his stuff and will not move on until he is sure everyone understands what's going on. Very patient and laid back guy--but don't think you can slack off ;)

Very very helpful when you need it. I didnt understand somethings and he helped me for an extra hour once. I missed a test and he knew i was struggling so he offered to let me come in later that week to take it. very nice and wants you to be successful and will help until you are. if you dont get it ASK. he likes questions.

professor Soleymani was very helpfull.He gives 3 exams, one is a takehome. He offers extra credit and gives points for homework. if you do all your homework, and study for the test, you should be able to pass the class. The 3 exams count for 50% of your grade, homework is 10%, class participation is 10% , and the final is 30%. Great prof. take him!

Professor Soleymany is a great instructor and a true human being. Math is not easy for me but, Professor Soleymani helped me get through it like not othe instructor has ever done. I am taking Math 52 with him, and still in his class. He is the best. I love the class and his teaching style. it is not an easy class like other math classes, but he really tries to help us out.

He is the best professor I have ever had. He is nice, funny and cares a lot about his students. There are 3 exams + final but he posted a study guide onloine before each exam and it is really helpful. The problems are almost the same as the homework and he goes over everything before the exams. MATH 21 He's amazing, makes math which wasn't my subject crystal clear. I had to take this course after taking it with the wrong prof, he helps you alot and wants you to succeed! Work hard, do the homework, and study and you'll do fine. it was an 8wk course with 4 tests and 1 final. He give you a study guide so you'll do fine. TAKE HIM

Nice professor. It's tough to teach calc over a 6 week summer session but he did a good job and kept it interesting. On a side note, I highly recommend against taking calculus over the summer unless you have taken it before.

This guy comes to class without notes and almost never looks at the book but for some reason rocks the class with the way he teaches. Oh yeah, and his appearance makes you want to pay 100% attention to the subject.

He is a wonderful teacher,I attend LASC and the course is in math 227 statistics, he was able to interact with a very diverse crowd of people, and teach me a person that does very poorly at math.I was so proud of myself and very privleged to have had such an amazing professor like him. If your looking to put in the time to study you will pass.

He was one of my favorite teachers at SMC. His lectures were very easy to follow and he does a great job at explaining everything! He has a great sense of humor which makes the class go by fast. The material is tough but he made it easy to understand.

I'm taking his class now but I took stats in high school and for the first time I'm able to understand stats. The computer stuff that he shows the class along with the examples he uses make this course very interesting. He is too smart, he knows a lot for a person his age, he is interesting, and he is the perfect teacher. Highly recommended!

Really nice guy but I was still going to fail. He tried to help me, but I still didn't get it. Stats is a hard class!!! 3 tests, a project and the final. Drops lowest grade. Yeah, he is kind of cute.

I did get a C in this class but I think I couldve done better if I studied hardER. He gives out study guides for every exam and as long as you study that, youll be ok. I took this class during Summer and it was a killer! He teaches a bit advanced and the exams were difficult, but everyone pretty much seemed to understand the lessons. This professor is too smart; all the lecture pretty much came right out of his head (barely any notes or book) He is also good with names. Texting was a big deal in his class.

for those out there who suck at math as much as I do I would advise to take sam. It' s defenitely a VERY challenging class but if you study the study guides you should be able to pass.3test, final, hw due the day of the test and 2 projects. good luck

His exams are impossible to do without reading over the lectures many times. I really enjoined going to this class. I can tell that I actually had fun sitting in a math lecture :) I'm happy that I get to take math 8 with this teacher

Professor Soleymani is a great professor. His tests aren't easy, but if you follow his study guide, it is easy to do well. Those complaining about him, obviously did not go to class. Once, he stayed an extra 45 minutes to help us prepare for the test. He doesn't use the book, which is a testament to how knowledgeable he is on the subject.

i had math8 in summer.every time he answer problems from last lecture and then cover new material.test are fair and if you do the homework you'll be fine.4test,2quiz replace the lowest with final.he gives extra credit too. he give idea what kinds of question is gong to be on test.go to class+listen+do homework->get a good grade.i highly recommend.

He is a great professor. He is tough and he loves to manipulate equations. Take him if you really want to learn mathematics. He's not challenging in the sense that you have to find other means to pass his class, but he's challenging in the sense that he really makes you think about certain problems before beginning them.

GREAT teacher. If you can get him take his class. I took him for math 7 fall-A and math 8 winter- A+ these are very hard classes with hard tests. NOT an easy A but he is a great teacher.

I ended up doing great on a psychology research paper at UCSD because of Soleymai's teaching style. I don't think I would learn the subject this well if I took stats with someone else.

Sam’s lectures are structured& easily understandable, he explains the subject in broader terms that apply to real life situations & always provides specific examples after he has introduced a new topic. Always accessible through email &office hrs& genuinely cares about his students.NOT AN EASY A, he challenges you &makes you work rlly hard for it!

In my opinion Prof. Soleymani is the greatest pedagogue out of every teacher that I've ever had. His style of teaching is very inspiring as i found myself more and more interested in math every day that attended class. Take math with this teacher if you get the chance.

He is one of the best professors at SMC! Very knowledgeable, articulate, organized and humorous. He explains the materials very well. 3 tests + 1 final. If the final score exceeds the lowest test score, he'll drop the latter! Just make sure you do all the homework and go through the study guides and you'll get an A. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I took Math 8 with him during the summer too and I don't remember any ranting, but I remember an awesome class. I learned a lot.

Professor Soleymani may seem tough with his exams but his grading is very fair. My experience with this math class was amazing because he did an amazing job teaching. His office hours helped me alot!

Professor Soleymani is knowlegeable! Not only is he a handsome guy(i am not gay!), he is willing to help his students by offering practice session even in winter semester! Though his exams are not easy, but if u did the required hw problem he assigned and pay attention in class. An "A" is absolutely attainable. Highly recommend!

No one can explain calculus the way he does. He is willing to give many extra practice sessions and I rarely have seen this guy make a mistake on the board. Great teacher.

His class is a rare college experience.

I was not doing so great in class until I talked to him about my study habits. I love math I love this class.

He writes everything you have to know on the board. Just copy&see how he solves the examples and you're good to go. He is a tough grader, but also very clear about what he wants in the test. I don't think there was a time that I needed a textbook in the class.

Very clear, concise lecturer. However his test, quizzes require thinking and yes some questions are difficult. If u can look at his past test study off those. He tells u what will be on the test. I took Calc BC so I found the material easy but if this is ur first experience it may confuse u so please do the hw and take notes to get the A.

His tests really test how you can break down a problem. Do the homework if you want to do well, even though he doesn't grade the hw. Go to office hours for help. Very good at explaining the material too.

Helps students. Has an accent but you can hear him clearly. No problem to ask for help.

He offers study guide which is really helpful, don't skip class because he makes students sign in, & he's really good looking! I wasn't expecting much from this class because we all know how the SMC math department is... but Professor Soleymani is really educated and is there for you if you need help :)

Anyone who has anything bad to say about Soleymani is lazy. He prepares worksheets and study guides for exams (things he does NOT have to do, which other professors WONT do). His lectures are crystal clear - he writes great notes on the board. He sets his students up for success, all YOU have to do is the work. Not to mention he's funny!

Excellent professor and very personable guy! Lectures are clear and also gives out study guides for exams. Expect to do at least 2 hours of homework per night though. Exams are difficult, but he is a VERY FAIR grader, because he understands the difficulty of the material. I have a gut feeling he is the best Calculus teacher at SMC!

Soleymani is probably the best math teacher Ive ever had. Provides extra worksheets, study guides, and extra study sessions :O ! Final grade a few quizzes, 4 tests, and the final. Homework is not checked/graded, however is essential to mastering the material. He really CARES about his students and couldn't be more FAIR. Highly recommend!

I am an international student who had to pay a lot to take this class. It was worth it! The professor is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. I really understand calculus now thanks to him. He is a very fair and a knowledgeable person.

I barely had the chance to study for Prof. S's stat class because of work and ended up with a C. I must say that someone has got to be extremely out of whack if they are not learning from this teacher! I am excited that I learned, passed the class, and have moved on. Excellent teacher!

He is a good professor that has a sense of humor. He has his own note so be prepared to drop it down every class. Don't miss the class. Exams are not that hard if u do the homework he assigned in the textbook. I was in both of his Math 8 and Math 54 and both of the classes I got A. He is great and nice professor.

His class is alright! I recommend anyone who is good at math and understands it very well. Stats is not easy and his lectures are clear and he knows that stats isn't easy. I am quite slow in math but i ended up passing his class with a C. He is good to look at too!

Currently I have an A, if I keep working hard and asking for help during office hours, I will keep my A. Prof. Soleymani wants his students to succeed and exceeds expections. Calculus is just hard work, you won't pass if you don't do the work.

Professor Soleymani is THE BEST math professor at SMC. Kind of sarcastic sense of humor at times but it's part of his charm. ALWAYS willing to help. I hate math, but never found myself bored during his lectures. If you don't take him you will be missing out. DO THE WORK, STUDY PRACTICE TESTS, PAY ATTENTION, ASK QUESTIONS, COMPLETE HOMEWORK.

An amazing guy that will do his very best to show you why & how it all works b/c he has so much INTEGRITY and goes well-beyond the standards of most professors. BUT, he also grades with integritytough but fairand gives exams that check if you've learned what he has tried to show you in the lectures. He wants you to pass, but won't just pass you.

If you have the chance to take a class with him do it. If every math teacher was like him the world of mathematics would hella enjoyable. He's hilarious, thorough and really wants everyone to get a good grade and understand the material. He is one of the best teachers I've ever had and I look forward to taking him for calculus.

He is great instructor, gives great notes, teaches very clearly including the background info you need to know. you can ask questions in class and he is open to help. I would definitely take him again and wish he was teaching more upper levels as well to take him. His classes are always packed from first days, so tough to be able to enroll.

There are three exams and he gives a study guide for each exam. He always says that his exams are from lectures and study guides. I find that to be true. Lecture and exam problems seem to be harder than the one in the book. Overall he is an exemplary educator.

Almost forgot to Rate this guy. Just an all around good professor. Do the homework even though you don't turn it in. He actually gives a fu.k about your education. He is especially on your side. Even more so if he notices you trying hard. Unlike the three amigos (Nestler, Hong, and Jahangahard) if those guys are Devils, He is the Angel Gabriel.

Truly a Professor who cares for his students and their education. He gives you all the opportunity to succeed through very good lecture notes. However this is not an easy A and he does make you work for your grade. Really enjoyed taking in the fall.

I love this guy. Lectures are slow, should be played at 1.5x, but other than that he's great. Super funny, a cool guy, and though he'll make you learn something, he'll help you if you're willing to work for it.

I was petrified of calculus prior to taking this class because I was told that learning calculus is similar to learning a difficult language. Professor Soleymani did a superb job breaking down the concepts through plenty of explanations and examples. His teaching approach is highly effective and he uses computer graphics to bring math to life.

AMAZING LECTURES!! Kinda regret of not having him before but he truly cares about your education and helps you to the fullest to succeed. Since he dumbifies his lectures his tests are kinda hard but do able if you are in a quiet environment. He gave us take home quizzes which were so helpful and study guides so you know whats on the test.

The lectures are very clear and interesting. The professor does not skip over steps when solving a problem and uses different colors to make the computations easier to understand. He is always welcoming at his office even though there is usually a line of students outside of his office waiting for him. Good with responding emails.

Professor Soleymani is very smart yet has sense of humor. I really enjoyed his lecture and topics he brought up during the lecture. Make sure you take the note during the lecture and do your homework. Don't skip the class if you want to pass the course.

The best Calculus teacher you can take... he teaches coherently and keeps lectures interesting. He's fair with grading and tests. Calculus 2 with him was awesome, I would 100% recommend taking his class.

I really enjoyed his class. His lecture is always on point and interesting. Make sure to take a note during the lecture. He will give you very specific instructions and review stuff before the tests. He does not hesitate to answer the questions you may have. I would highly recommend his class!

I took multivariable calc and stats with Prof. Soleymani. Perhaps the best teacher that I have had. Lectures are very clear and organized. There is a great balance between teaching the theory and doing applications. Highly resourceful! I would take this professor again if I could.

Professor Soleymani is awesome! Getting an A is definitely possible but you need to work for it. His lectures are amazing and he makes class fun. His study guides every test helps a lot. I was not doing well at the beginning of the class but was able to get an A through hard work plus Professor Soleymani's help. Don't be afraid to ask questions!

A few things I can say about prof. Soleymani: Clear/engaging lectures, encouraging, straight shooter, wants you to succeed, availability/willingness to help outside of lecture time, not easy, but you need not be a math genius to get a good grade in his class. Very grateful for my two semesters with him as he helped me rid myself of math-phobia.

This is a way overdue review for Professor Soleymani. I took him for Math 7 & Math 8. I even took an unnecessary Math 54 just because of him. He was the only math professor I ever had at SMC simply because he was the best. You should attend all the lectures and do practice exams. Calculus isn't too easy but it's manageable.

For once in my life I was able to sit through a math class and understand it. This professor is very articulate with his job. Examples are catchy and interesting. He definitely knows how to improvise and his expectations are very clear. I would take this professor any day of the week.

Professor Soleymani gives very elegant lectures. He made every topic interesting by using intriguing examples and applications. He is highly organized with a great handwriting. After taking this class I am thinking of switching my major to math. The exams are hard but similar to lectures. I highly recommend if you truly desire to learn math.

If you copy down everything he writes on the board, and study those notes (do every problem you did in class at home after as practice) & do some homework problems to test yourself then the test will be fair. He knows the subject very well, his tests are fair, and he is a fair grader too. He is a decent professor. I recommend him for any math class

I took his class in Winter 2018. Calculus 2 in 6 weeks was a bit intense b/c we had to cover a lot of material and go at a fast pace, but professor Soleymani did an INCREDIBLE job in explaining the material. He is very competent and his explanations are very clear too. With him, you will understand Math. Totally recommend his class.

Before taking his class, I was worried b/c I didnt do well in high school but he made the subject understandable and fun. He helped class improve scores by assigning an extra credit project. Hes intelligent and charming. He is so awesome!!!

The guys careless, self-deprecating, disorganized, and sleep deprived. But hes a phenomenal teacher. Even in the short 6 weeks of winter semester, he managed to brush on all the important sections perfectly and engaged the class with them. He is truly inspirationalespecially so considering this is Calc 2. He made math fun again.

Got A from this class. In my opinion, Math 8 is a pretty hard subject when you take it over Winter because you have to learn a great deal of materials in the short period of time. The professor was nice and hilarious with clear grading criteria. He tried his best to cover most of chapters. Not bad for a short semester, would take him again.

Math 8 was not an easy subject but the way he teaches it makes it easier. He is very clear in explaining his lectures and would hold workshops for students who have questions to ask from the textbook. All the exams questions are based on his lecture notes + HW, nothing surprising. You need to understand the concepts to get an A. 3 exams 1 final.

Prof Soleymani is one of the best professors at SMC. Just done with first exam. It was pretty easy since he held a practice session prior to the exam day. He told us about what to study for the test. I like that he explains things very well and is accessible outside the class.

Sam is THE BEST! His lectures are clear and well-explained. He is funny and always encourages students to participate in class. The lowest midterm will be replaced with the percentage of the final if finals is higher. He is caring, a fair grader. He doesnt always take roll but better not to miss class. Great Professor. He can be very sarcastic, but most of the time on himself. His lectures are dragging sometimes when he tries to make sure that everyone understands the subject. He holds workshops and goes over practice exams. This is very helpful. You will be fine in his class if you are not a lazy type.

I had the best experience in calculus 2 with professor soleymani! He went really out of his way to help his students, like no other professor has done so far! Hes really good and will help u succeed only if you work as hard as he does! He wont accept lame excuses, but if you are really struggling and try your best he will be there for you!

Professor Soleymani takes the time to explain complicated math concepts and make them seem easy. His notes are amazing and really help supplement the homework. He is not a fan of grading long and complicated problems so he will show you different tips and tricks that will help minimize the amount of work needed to be done. Overall a great professor

If you miss one lecture,you only need watch the recording video and sent him the attendance code. I strong recommend it. Take his class,you won't be regret.

The sweetest professor ever. May take a while to reply to emails, but is so helpful, and is always open to answer every and any question (s) during lecture. The exams were exactly like the online HW. Do the HW, ask questions, and keep up. No reason to fail this class, or to barely pass with C or D, when an A or B is absolutely attainable.

Soleymani was great in some areas and not in some other ways which I totally understand. He doesn't do proctorio huge plus, lectures are a great and organized and amazing professor. Because of no proctorio he only accepts a certain format that we learn in the class. Which is understandable but makes it really hard to get help outside of class.

I've taken his class in Spring 2020 before pandemic happened. School just stopped and everything switched to online classes. He did it very professionally. His lectures are really straight forward but it did get harder after all. Grading was fair enough and if I had questions, he helped a lot during his office hours. Very funny and awesome guy!

For the first time, I was able to sit through a math lecture and actually understand the professor. This class is test heavy (65% of grade) and homework is not graded, but homework needs to be done to do well on the four exams. One of the most straightforward and clear math professors I've experienced. His exams reflect his lectures and homework.

Had Professor Soleymani for my Pre Calculus class and Calculus 1. This guy is really great in my opinion and you have to work for your grade, study and practice and he believes in anyone as long as you show commitment and effort to the class. He's great with his notes, exams, finals and hosts review sessions before exams and finals.

This professor is amazing! His lectures and very clear and he answers all questions, even dumb ones. He is super friendly and supportive by publishing reviews before each exam. I asked him to prove one of the trigonometric sum formulas and he actually did! He is kind of a late grader, but this could be because he teaches 2 or more classes.

I took Calc 2 with this professor and he was good. Exams were fair, you just have to manage your time wisely. His notes were clear and easy to follow with color coding and not a snooze fest like other professors. We didn't have any homework, just some projects on series and sequences. He checks cheating and calls you out so don't cheat.

Took him during the Winter of 2022. He is not a fan of math so he's relatable. He breaks the material down into digestible bits. If you take his class online he takes notes on his iPad which makes his in-class notes very neat. Just show up to class and he will explain the concepts very well. His humor is kinda weird, but still an enjoyable teacher.

Took his 6 week session online. He is strict with attendance (takes attendance 2-3 times during class and drops you if you miss more than 2 classes). If you take his class online he only accepts work in a specific format or he'll accuse you of cheating. Nonetheless, he's a good lecturer and is caring. He's very lenient with his grading.

I came to write about this dude about a year later taking just a math course with him. He is phenomenal, you won't regret it, the review below is just there to scare you, it's college, and math is a must for all. Trust me, I was in your shoes too. A, guaranteed. He can come off as a bit harsh but he really does want you to succeed. Go to his office hours and ask for hw help or advice on how to study, and most of all put aside the time to study. Graded on only 4 exams and a final, and the final replaces the lowest grade of your exams which could bump you up to 2 grades above if you do well.

Professor Soleymani was great to have. The class has no routine homework assignments, which gives extra time to study rather than spending time on busy work. Having failed Math 11 once before in the past, due to the inherent difficulty of the class, I found the professor made a complicated topic way more accessible. Definitely recommend.

This was my first ever class in college and it couldn't have been smoother. For those taking Math 11, the homework is not required but recommended, and the tests are worth most of your grade. He's a fantastic lecturer and has very intuitive approaches to sometimes difficult topics. Take him!

BEST Math teacher at SMC

I took Math 11 with another prof and felt the need to drop a month into the semester. Then I took Soleymani. The difference between the him and my previous math professors including the last Math 11 professor was like night and day. I felt the he truly cared about me as a student. For once in my life I understood what is going on in a math class!

He genuinely cares about his students and is great at teaching. Study guides are very true to the exam. Only downside is he talks very monotone and has dry humor(it hit sometimes tho) and lectures move SO slowly, my class was almost a month behind schedule for most the semester and we had to learn the last few sections ourselves before the final.

Very good prof overall, his precalc class was manageable and fair. Tests were very similar to practice exams and he would give Zoom lectures on his own time before exams which showcased his caring character. Funny guy as well, lectures were always engaging.

Sam is a great guy. Interesting personality, but a good human. He's actually here to teach, not to punish you. Go to class, do the homework, put in the work, and you will do extremely well in his classes. If I don't do well, it's because of me, not him. I'm all done with math classes at SMC, but I wish I had him sooner.

Had precalc with him last year (A) and am in Calc 2 now. One of the most supportive teachers at SMC. Wrote the most amazing letter of rec for me. His lectures are informative, and exams aren't as bad as whatppl have said. Final was similar to the review. Silly mistakes due to test anxiety might cost me the A, but really was on me. Highly recommend!

Test (60%), final (30%), homework (10%) Amazing lectures, good speaker, best professor I've had. Posts VERY CLEAR lecture notes and study guides for normal exams + final exam. Attendance "optional" after 3 weeks Not easy A (4/26), spent 6hr/week on this class. Do the study guide 3+ times (and understand), you will get 90+. NEVER curved in life

I've taken advanced math courses at SMC with 4 different professors and this was the best one by far. The lectures were great, a lot like Professor Leonard on youtube. Studying the examples from class and the book prepares you well for the tests. They are strictly graded though. Near the end you get surprised with easy extra credit.

If you attend the lectures and do the homework, its very easy to get an A. You will fall behind if you do not attend the lectures. He is funny too

You can get an A if you do the suggested problems in the textbook and study regularly. The tests are harder than the lecture material. Lectures are good, albeit a little bit slow. Kinda passive aggressive when asking questions...Overall fine

I took him for Math 7 & 8 and planning on taking 11 with him too. Exams are just like the review and his lectures are enjoyable. He makes sure you actually understand the material instead of just throwing hard problems at you and making you memorize a bunch of info. Makes the class a lot easier than it is just listen to his advice and ask questions

Teaching style seemed boring at first, but the clarity of the assignments and test topics makes up for the monotonous lectures. Provided helpful reviews for the 3 exams and the final, and gave an extra credit assignment at the end. Doesn't overcomplicate things and keeps it accessible for everyone willing to practice a fair amount.

This professor makes a lot of funny jokes and really wants students to do well. The only thing that was weird was one time I went to office hours, and he was having an argument with someone on the phone and told me to give him a second before coming in, then even when he got off the phone didnt tell me to come in, I didn't go to office hours again.
