He's very tough. If you don't know your math, even pre-cal and alg 2 stuff, he will wear you down. He's very sarcastic, too, so don't have a thin skin. Sometimes, not understanding.
I hated his class. I thought that Mr. White was the worst teacher I have ever had. His class is demanding and he was not any help.
Not very helpful, but he obviously scaled the grades in the end like crazy!
Seems hard at first, but is actually funny. Helps you actually learn the material. Explains math well. I easily pulled off a B without much effort. I definately would reccomend him!
I hated Mr. White's class. He makes you do problems in the class that you only go over a few times and then grades them right then. If you have a question about a problem, he does not do a good job explaining the problem. If you take his class, be prepared to answer the problems the way HE wants you to answer them. Its either his way or you fail.
Sarcastic son of a b*tch! But he really does care about how you do in his class.. gives lots of pop tests, but they do help your grade.. would reccomend over all other math teachers at Jeff State.

He expects you to already know what he's talking about from the very first day. I made A's and B's in MTH up until this class.. now I'm failing and I'm going to have to take it again. He's not a very good teacher... he just doesn't teach.

Mr. White is really demanding when it comes to math. i would not recommend you taking him if you are poor at math, but if you know what you are doing, then take him. i took in in summer 06, and i really enjoyed his class b/c he made it fun. even though he is hard, if you talk to him, he will pass you. Trust ME.
man it was by the grace of GOD that I passed this man class, it's no way I did that well on the final. im tellin you, u can fail all his test b ut if u do good on the final thats all that matters. don't withdraw i promise u will pass.

i would have to say he is one of the worst math teachers to walk planet earth. He may go over stuff in class, but when it comes to test time he tweeks the questions so much their impossible to figure out.
You need to know what you are doing to pass this class. You must have common sense. He is very tough! Expects you to know it all already, or learn by the first try. He will explain though if you need him to. It took me a few classes to get used to him but I would take him again.
He can't teach. He picks out certain people in the class that understand and asks them all of the questions. Those that don't understand can't because everyone that answers understands how to do it. I got an "A" but no thanks to him.
Instructor is partial to certain students. Does not follow the book; does not use the book's examples. He skips steps while he teaches and you have no idea how/why he sets up equations. He assumes you already know the math. He loves to pick on students. Female students need to beware his inquiring questions!

Seems rough as sandpaper at first, and may continue to seem that way depending on your ability to preform well in the subject. Grew on me over time, and I enjoyed his class after a while. Pay close attention to anything he does, he'll only do it once, and if you manage to pull off a ringer assignment, you'll see a shift in his behavior toward you.
RUN!!! Although he may be a very nice man, he absolutely can not teach. He does scale grades, but you still loose. I love math, but had to retake trig just to gain an understanding for future classes. Run, Run, Run. Try Dr. Wallace or Mrs. Adams.
An absolutely terrible teacher in every sense of the word. He doesn't even deserve a job. He gives you fake quizzes that count for nothing and gives you extremely difficult questions for the tests, after not ever going over similar ones. He makes the math department look disgraceful. Don't waste your time!
Perfection Itself Phillip! Wish he could teach me every subject...kicking the weak students to the curb at every chance, it's fabulous. It was enough to come to class to see people drop like flies, and man it was sweet. If you decide to not be a slacker / idiot, I think this class is pretty enjoyable for the his deadpan sense of humor in itself.
math 116 should really easy class...but he just seemed to make the class really hard
I had him for math 112.He is very sarcastic. He does few questions and gives you home work.Here is a secret to make this man happy .. talk to him after class.. take questions and act like u r showing some effort. He isn't bad if u talk to him .. he can be real funny and helpful . Also, he takes exact questions from his previous test for finals..
If you like to be told how stupid you are and you love teachers to complete ignore the questions you ask then this is the teacher for you. I will give him this, he helped people out on tests by counting some of the questions instead of the whole test. Otherwise, he was a complete jerk to students and just doesn't show any interest in helping.
He likes to embarrass you in front of the entire class.By the time finals came only 3 students hadn't drop his class.I made 2 Fs and an A on the final and got a B out of the class. This class was not helpful by the end of the term we had only covered chp. 1-3. Don't take him & if you do don't let him intimidate you into dropping the class.

After 3 years in college, I lost my 4.0 to this class and worked HARD for my B! He is tough and enjoys it! Extraordinarily dry sense of humor, and by the end of the class, you resentfully like him. He made me laugh, but I wouldn't recommend him unless math comes naturally to you!
He is the most unhelpful teacher i've ever had/met. He doesn't care that his examples do not help at all with the homework, he gave us no syllabus or any kind of calendar or anything. I feel very sure that he may not even tell us when out tests are. If you like to sit in a silenced room with an evil man and feel dumb, get him for math!
I personally enjoyed his class. He gives you plenty of opportunities to learn the material and he is very willing to help his students regardless what other people say. I'm Terrible at math and made a B during the summer. If you can't take some jokes and are not a very sensitive person then you do just fine in that class.
Mr.White is harsh! I do not recommend him at all! All he do is teach really fast like you fully understands, and constantly misses classes to go to the casino! Who does this? Great teacher. People that do not like him are the people who cannot take humor. You need to take notes and pay attention. I never had an issue with him answering my questions. If he knows you care and are willing to try, he will help you out in EVERY way possible. As far as him cancelling class... he cancelled my class once.
Great teacher!!! As for the people who whine about him cancelling class... he is 60-70 years old, if he wants to spend his money in a casino, that is his choice. No one tells you how to spend your money. Anyways, he is a wonderful man and really cares.
I had Mr. White on Saturdays and I enjoyed the class. You have to make sure that you pay attention to the examples that he puts on the board, and if you are uncertain about something, ask him. He will go over the information again if necessary. If you get intimidated easily, make sure you stay on your 'P's and 'Q's to avoid being called out. lol
He is very difficult to understand. He teaches like he is teaching himself. He hardly turns around while teaching.

I think most people dislike S. White because of his tone. I really enjoyed him, he is a teacher that can actually teach math. I have found that math is very hard to teach. He is rare in this department. When I did not understand or need more help he has always been there. I will take him again in a heart beat.
Class is hard and he will make you think you will need to drop the class, but DON'T! He Scales grades and does pretty much anything to help you pass. Of 4 tests I failed 2 and made A's on the other 2 and made an A in the class. Gotta have tough skin but if math is not your thing do not take him.

If you are only taking Math 100 he is fine. He has a reasonably easy grading system if you are willing to work hard. HOWEVER, if you plan to go on and take higher maths DO NOT TAKE HIM! I got an A in his class and am completely unprepared for Math 112. I have to hire a tutor just to be able to understand the first part of 112.

Never showed up on the test days, asked another teacher to pass the papers and student are nonsupervision. Students use devices, open book, dicuss and very few work on their own. He cares final answer not how you solve the problem. Perfect time to copy your "partner" answer. So confusing to be in his class!
He likes to pick on certain people, and he will stick to those people. I was one of the favorites, so he left me alone. But he is really nice, and will try and help you the best he can. He was a great teacher and I would take him again.
Great Teacher!!!!! I took him for Math 100 and pre-cal. I got A is both....Just do the homework assignment, read chapter section before class. Show up for class and let him know if you are unable to be show up for class. But overall Mr. White was a great teacher.
at first i hated him!!! he was so rude and difficult to understand but i hadn't studied math in a few years after hiring a tutor for my first test i did wonderful he tries very hard to help you but he's very hard to understand overall i would not recomend him to anyone!

I dont know why people think he is so hard. He is a cool guy! Just talk to him about photography and gambling and you are in. He might make you feel stupid, but get over it and take his teaching seriously. No syllabus,or study guides. Striaght up math! love him
Unwilling to help if he isnt in the mood. This class had a few disruptive students and along with him giggling with them like little girls and their outbursts, The rest of us who needed help, could not get the help or attention we deserved.
He comes off as uninterested at first, however, if you work the next chapter and exercises (he expects this), _AND_ ASK QUESTIONS, he is challenging. He responds very well to attendance, effort, and questions. Returns the same as you put in.
Mr White is AWESOME! He can come off as very sarcastic, but thats what he is...and he's funny! He is a good teacher, but you must come to class and pay attention!You are given plenty of opportunities for points!

You know, I really liked Mr. White. I'm not saying he was a good teacher; you definitely have to do your own research, but he was always willing to help me. If you go to class, do your homework, and just show a general interest in math you will get an A from him. I don't think he ever graded our tests though. Never knew what I made on them.
This is the worst math teacher I have ever had in my life! This man will spend have of the class criticizing everyone's homework, but will make some of the same mistakes we made when he does a problem. Do not take Mr. White if you are taking calculus because you will be unprepared for Cal 2. This man needs to retire. Poor excuse for a math teacher

I disliked this class in every way. I am so unprepared for my next math course. He is an awful teacher. What math teacher does not come up with their own syllabus. He has some sarcastic humor but thats it. He expects you to know everything before he even teaches the material to you. If your not good at math than DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
I wish I had read the comments below before I took his class. I feel like the money I spent for this class was wasted. Being that my major requires me to use a lot of math. If you wish to have a good math teacher then I recommend Alan Davis. You will acquire 10x more information and more clarity from him.
I took Mr. White for both Math 098 and 100. He was a really great teacher but everything had to be done his way, or it was counted wrong! I didn't like that he was rude and criticized people's work then turn around and make the same mistakes himself! You will definitely pass if you go to class, pay attention, do all work, and do things his way.
Not at all a bad teacher. He effectively weeded out the weakest students early in the course. In class, he usually did a quick run-down of a section and spend time on details that the book doesn't cover. He won't tell you this, but read ahead - do some work for yourself. He won't spoon-feed anything to you, but he will always help you.

At the beginning he'll give pop quizzes and homework grades, and will give you either a 0, 50, or 100% but he won't do it forever. The tests were not too hard, one was in class, another was take home, and then a final. He is a good teacher who deep down really cares, but doesn't show it on the outside. he is a good math teacher at Jeff State.
HE'S AN AMAZING TEACHER!! I had no problems learning! I'm taking him again for my next math class! He does like to make jokes about anything. Just don't take him seriously and you'll be fine! He will explain clearly until you understand! I TOTALLY RECOMMEND HIM! GO FOR IT!!
Overall he is a great teacher. He expects you to know the material and use it the right way. If you do need help, he will help. He may be sarcastic most of the times but he makes you learn!

Mr. White is a very good teacher. If you do not understand he takes the time to help you understand. He knows MATH!
Mr. White is a hard teacher if you do not come to class or ask questions and stop him at points that you do not understand. If you do come to class and are on time and work all of the problems in the book you will be fine. He is a hard grader and you must not skip steps with him or he will let you know exactly what you are doing wrong. Challenging!
Show up to class and don't be late and you will pass your math class. You could fail everything but as long as you showed up to class and gave effort you'll be alright. He talks crap if you're an idiot but is that worth a passing grade? Yes it is

Terrible. Makes you feel like a terrible human for asking questions. Always 30 minutes- 1hr late to class. No partial credit. Doesnt answer questions or explain. Its HIS way or the highway. DONT take Sam White.
Hell catch an attitude you if you ask a question. He would embarrass you in front of the class if you make a bad grade. He does fully explain a problem , if you dont understand. Worst class Ive ever experienced
Very bad teacher. He didn't show up to class on time for most of the classes. He has a teaching style that if you don't already know what he is teaching, you won't learn anything. If you ask questions, he will act exasperated and answer them with short answers and say things like, "How do you not know this?" Very bad teacher.
Basically no homework. Math is not my strong suit but I passed with an A. He jokes a lot but he means well and I personally thought he was hilarious. Can be intimidating because he isn't afraid to call you to the board. If you come to class you should have no problem passing the class was very slow paced and easy to understand.
Absolutely the most ineffective teacher I've ever had. His abusive personality would have been tolerable if he actually taught anything, but he expected everyone to already understand the material. I read all assignments, but I didn't understand much, & he refused to explain it. Gave me the only C I've gotten in my college career. Simply awful.
This class would have been much more understandable if it was being taught by someone who actually sounded like they wanted to be there. Mr. White will make you feel like a complete idiot if you get an answer incorrect. The support class (MTH 111s) was useless. He gives ZERO extra credit. If youre not very good at math, DO NOT take him!
First for starters im bad at math so i was hoping to get a good start with this class. But no, the lectures are so boring he always sounds like he dont want to be there. He talks like hes so uninterested. Then when u ask if he can go back over it, HE WONT!! Go for someone who cares . Will never take class again. Withdrew within 2 months!!
Won't be graded on attendance per se, but you have to attend class. Wise students will open all the folders in the content section, watch the linked videos and print the example problems you find there. Read the section and work the textbook problems in advance so you can answer questions. He is rude and obnoxious, but he'll do extra Q&A sessions.
Do not take this class online. He isnt flexible with exam hours and has no empathy.
This professor I HIGHLY ADVISE you guys to not use. He did not teach worth a flip, you WILL have to teach yourself the math if you decide to stick it out with him.

The lectures are not helpful, it's only him doing the problems and not explaining them. He only grades the Cengage quizzes so it's up to you if you want to spend time on the homework assignments. I had to consult Youtube University for most of this course so if you value where your tuition is going, take someone else!
Recommended only to those who are OK with receiving zero instruction from a prof. I watched the first lecture, and like a lot of other reviewers noted, miserable. Didn't explain, instruct, teach, profess. Stopped watching lectures, Google/YT/textbook became prof. DIY. Homework was optional, quizzes were due at strange hours. Would not do it again.
Mr. White explains the material very well. If you do not understand something, then you should ask him. Do not wait till the last minute to ask him questions. He will go above and beyond for his students. He wants us to all be successful. It is up to the students to do their part if they want to pass.
I don't know how Jefferson State allows this class. There is a lot of homework that you get 0 credit for. You are only graded on tests and quizzes. There are maybe 5, 8 part questions that are worth 25 points apiece, so you better make sure your answers are right. The lectures are just the professor recording himself doing the math problem on paper

This professor will teach 1/8 of the lesson and expect you to know all of the section, I understand math well when it's explained this guy just expects you to understand because he understands. His lectures are an 1hr long but honestly it's not because he's going over a lot of material he talks really slow and is not tech savvy at all.
Mr. White is an understanding instructor. If you are struggling with a math problem, don't wait until the last minute to ask for help. He's been available for questions after the lecture, or I could set after hour meeting times.
