Very easy class. I found the plays we read to be boring, but the assignments were easy and involved minimal time outside of class. Attendance is stressed.
Sam is absolutely one of the finest teaches at ARC. If you're planning on being a professional actor then he will just amaze and inspire you. He's also an incredibly friendly guy. Also if you ever get the chance to see him perform do so. Wow!!!

he is one of the coolest guys. i loved taking his class, andi would take it again.
Sam was very helpful. He was always willing to talk and give feedback.
Very interesting teacher. I had no interest in theatre whatsoever before taking his class. The quizzes are not as easy but if you read the text, actually READ it, it is easy to get an A. He is very enthusiastic about the subject.
Sam is so nice. Quizzes every week or other week. Just read the chapter and its an easy A. You will watch a lot of movies towards the end of the semester.
I loved taking acting from Sam. He uses all sorts of exercises to get you comfortable and then explains in detail how to get job done. You do have to memorize several scenes but hey, it's acting class! Would recommend to anyone interested in theater, even those taking it for just GE credit! Bravo!!
What they said. Awesome!
He was the best teacher! Not only did he make this class fun, he encouraged every one of his studnets to be in a production. He sees and works with the tallent in every person. Take him, he's great!
Sam is an extremely nice person. His class was fun, although some of the short scripts we had to choose from weren' that interesting. I still see him around campus and he always smile and waves. Very, very nice guy.

Sam's more of a friend than a teacher...Sure, he's teaching me the Theories, and Techniques of acting, but the way he does it, is just amazing...Very interesting, very good. Recommended!
Awesome, awesome teacher. Very talented. A great teacher with a real personality. He is very willing to help his students with whatever they need.
REALLY GREAT TEACHER AND PERSON. HE REALLY CARES ABOUT WHAT HE IS TEACHING. HIS PASSION FOR THE ARTS IS DEFINETLY CONVEYED THROUGH HIS WORK. HE MADE CLASS FUN AND PRETTY EASY. THE DIFFERENT PLAYS YOU READ RELALY SHOW YOU A GREAT DEAL ABOUT DIFFERENT CULTURES. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CLASS TO ANYBODY.
In a word: Classy. Sam Williams is everything you could want in a theatre teacher. He has very clear objectives, teaches with enthusiasm, and will pull even the most lackluster of talents to their highest potential. While he has his limits, he makes it very clear where they are and how to steer clear of them. Beyond dynamic, he's made out of magic.
Very helpful teacher. 5 papers & presentations 4 quizes. You have to read a lots of plays, I wrote more papers in this class than my english class. Some days were interesting while others were terribly boring. If you enjoy reading and class discussions take this class but don't expect to slack off.
Very friendly, nice, and funny. Great at giving contructive criticism and letting you know what your talents are and what you can work on to help you grow as an actor. Watching him act and give examples in class is inspiring for any theatre student.
Dang. Sam is so fine. I had Sam for Movement and Diversity and he is so soulful and passionate about what he does. He loves the arts and loves what he does and it shows. His classes are enlightening and powerful, but not hard if you do what you're supposed to do to keep up. And did I mention? The man is FINE! Dang.

He knows how to teach!!!! Such an eccentric personality that makes people want to come to class!
Sam really gets you excited about class. He has lots of energy and passion for theatre that is contagious. I would have preferred a more challenging course, but it was a beginning acting class. You have to push yourself to get the most out of the class. An overall good experience.
I had a ton of fun in this class. Sam is an incredible instructor. He loves theater and he make you love it too. It's a pretty easy class but make sure you don't put off the little work that he requires. If you do it, you'll get an easy A. I got 995 out of 1000 points. It's a great class if you want to have fun, and the best part is it's on IGETC!
Super fun class, on the IGETC, great way to get your acting chops! Way to go Sam!
He is a wonderful Theater Professor! I recommend him if you are interested in taking theater, he's helpful! If you paid to learn, you will learn!
Absolutely GREAT & FUN teacher and class, and I recommend taking the class with Sam you won't regret it. When I 1st signed up for the class I wasn't sure if I would like the class and if I would learn anything, and actually it was one of my favorite classes. I will now always look at movies and plays with a different view point after this class.
Great class but you need to show up and Sam expects you to participate in class and share your opinions. 5 Papers and Presentations and 4 pretty easy quizzes if you do the reading prior to class. Pretty easy grader, and an extremely easy-going teacher that will show how diverse the theatre actually is with discussions and movies.
Amazing teacher. I had never done theater before, but thought the class would be fun. And it was! Amazing teacher. Sam is so cool, pretty laid back. There are a couple of papers to turn in, but he is a pretty easy grader as long as you try! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
kick ass teacher! really funny and great guy. gives extra credit, but you do need to go to class everyday, lose points if you don't. quizzes every week but they're easy if you study the terms. watch a lot of movies and there's group work for participation points. it's really an awesome class and you gotta take Sam, he's the best!
He has you write a paper on the most stupid play I have ever seen, which is directed by him, in order to fund his salary. In the class you have to do plays with other people who have a pompous attitude because they think they are professional actors just because they have been cast in some stupid school play in high school. Don't take this class.
PLEASE IGNORE THE LAST COMMENT! Sam is one of the best teachers you could find! I wasn't sure what to expect from this class but I'm SO glad I took it! By far one of the best teachers! Yes, you do have to do your work but he's a fairly easy grader as long as you've put forth the effort.
PLEASE IGNORE THE LAST COMMENT!! He is only nice to you if you are a theater major. If you are trying to take this class as an elective to get your GPA up and are taking some other REAL classes that are actually ACADEMIC, then I suggest something else. If you think you gave a good performance in this class, think again. Be ready to be criticized.
The theater department is doing so well that they make people who are taking theater arts pay for two plays that you have to write a paper on in class!!! That seems a little messed up. There are some people in the plays that have talent, but the storylines make their talent seem mediocre.
Sam is a awesome teacher. gives extra credit to see plays, uses the book to pick monologues an scenes. Attendance is cricial for his classes. TA 350 we did 1 monoglogue and 3 scenes. have to see the ARC productions for an assignment. overall very helpful teacher!
Who ever commented on the 6th and said that he only favors theater students probably didn't even bother trying in the class. I knew pretty much nothing about the class but I showed up and did my homework and I got an A in the class. He offers extra credit. Yes, you are required to go see 2 plays. Sams is one of the best teacher's I've had at AR!
He is very helpful and a very interesting character. He will make you understand the importance of being an actor.
AMAZING TEACHER!! Sam is so fun and nice. I learned so much in his class, it's crazy. He's always got something funny to say. He's the first professor I've had who took time to develop relationships with his students. He is honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had. I will DEFINITELY be taking more of his classes.
Awesome teacher, and very inspirational. If you really want to learn the art of theater, or acting for fun this is the right class and teacher
Professor Sam Williams is one of the best at ARC. He encourages positive energy. Memory was not my strong suit before taking Sam's Class but he said I will get better at it and I did. If you want to grow as an entertainer or just starting out Professor Sam Williams Class is a leap in the right direction. Sam treats all students the same. Doesn't ma
Doesn't matter size, hieght, age or disability. If you have a doctors note he will give you other tasks to complete. You will not regrete taking his classes.
Sam Williams is an awsome teacher. His class is fun and he likes to get everyone involved. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who needs it or wants it.
Sam is a character! He is passionate about what he does and wants to help others be successful! I highly recommend him!
The work is fairly easy, he's very helpful and an easy grader, such a nice and enthusiastic professor. He really makes your learning experience fun, I always look forward to his class
Sam is a really good teacher, he knows what he's talking about. He has a very good personality and fun, but he's one of those teachers that has A LOT of paper work. If you're into just performing and not into writing assigments try someone else. Other then that he tries to help everyone learn the basic skills of acting. Again he's big on paper work
Mr. Williams is an awesome teacher. He really made this class interesting. I was skeptical at first about it, but he's great! He reminds me of Katt Williams and Dave Chappell...in a way.
He is the best teacher EVER!! any class he is teaching.... take him! u wont be sorry! Very easy grader, great personality, and its actually very fun!
Sam is a wonderful person and teacher. He is so passionate about what he teaches you can't help but enjoy his class, even if theatre is not your thing. He always has something interesting to say, and he knows how to keep a class entertained. I would recommend him to anyone. Sam is a must have professor in the theatre department.
Mr. Williams is by far the best teacher I've taken! I wasn't really interested in theatre prior to taking this class, however I can now respect it as a whole. Come to class, do the papers, participate in the group activity and you'll get an A just as I did! Many extra credit activities available as well. Will read from 4 different books!
as an acting major sam was blunt about negatives and positives surrounding performances. i loved his class and would love to take him again in the future.
Sam was very much a great teacher, he has alot of passion of what he teachs. Work was easy, the only nagative is he was a little moody.
Unfair. Gives 10 points for attendance, however if you get caught texting or talking while he someone is speaking he takes off all 10 points, if you do it again he takes off another 10 points, might as well not go to class. every 2 weeks you are required to read 3 plays, write a 5 page paper and give a presentation
Awsome--take if you really want to get into the phyicality of acting and improve your effectivness as an actor on stage. This class looks at the physical demands of an actor and goes beyond just learning lines and understanding subtext for scene work. Brilliant teacher--highly recommended!!!!
Mr. Williams is the best professor I had so far. He knows what he is teaching and he really enjoys doing it. He may give a lot of homework but the homework he gives is important knowledge for an actor. It was the best and most fun class I have taken.
He is a great teacher, very passionate about what he does. He was helpful and made all instructions clear. There are 5 5 page essays that are due and presentations with each one, but that was not a problem for me.
Great teacher.
wonderful! he really helped perfect scenes and tactics. great teacher
Sam's an incredible teacher cares deeply about helping develop students. Those who don't like performing or looking for an easy A-good luck...this IS a theater arts class. Most difficult part is several exams on phonetic alphabet.Final is phonetic transcription and performance with learned dialect.SLPA: take it serious! Very important to future!
Williams is passionate about theater and makes it fun. The class is split into 4 American theater parts: Native American, Black, Asian, and Latino. With each unit, you watch a film based on a play, read 2 plays, take an easy quiz, write a short paper & give a group presentation. You pick topic of final paper and must see 2 ARC theater productions.
I would not recommend Sam to anyone. He does not treat his students as college students and at times can be surprisingly disrespectful. Often times there is very little logic behind the things he says and/or does. He doesn't create an open and comfortable learning environment for students. I dont think he is a bad person, just not a good professor.
I would HIGHLY recommend Sam to anyone. He treats his students like college students. What he says and does is entirely logical. He creates a very open and comfortable learning environment. He teaches responsibility, accountability, important acting, as well as life, skills such as active listening, focusing, and control of ego. Two thumbs up!
Sam gets you moving.
Theater is sam's passion, so it's not easy A. He expects you to act like an adult. Low tolerance for lack of participation. I now love theater and support it in my community whenever I can. He's a great teacher and he's kinda funny.
I enjoyed Professor Williams’ class. He makes his course interesting. He requires a few short papers. If you follow his instructions closely you will do well in his class. Complete participation in the class is needed to do well. He is a generous grader.
He is such a good teacher. He loves his subject, so you learn to love it too. There's a lot of writing in TA 306, but it's sooo worth taking the class.
What an awesome, engaging teacher who knows his stuff! This was a difficult class but he made it fun and I learned a LOT! Thanks, Sam!
Sam is a great guy, but this class is a joke. Is this English or an elective? Essay due almost every other week, something due almost every class, essay instructions are nontranslucent leading to lower grades, quiz's are kindergarten styled.. "who said this, who did that"? Really? This is not Sam's fault, its the schools. I did learn a lot though.
He's a really cool teacher and you must read the plays more than once to understand all the material being discussed. It's sot of a critical thinking since there's a lot of writing but its not too hard. He will help you if you help yourself first.
I took this class because of the good reviews and i had an interest in Theatre. This professor completely changed my mind about theatre he is rude, confusing as another said there is no logic behind his actions. For a theatre class there is a lot paperwork to do and essays. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone unless you like childish behavior.
He is a great tecaher. He demamds nothing but the best from you and will challenge you in this class. We barely used the book in this class. We just read an excerpt from it maybe twice but it is a good read. Sam likes to get down to business and can be confusing when explaining directions or if you ask him a question.
Sam was such a great instructor! Funny!! You can tell he is VERY passionate about what he teaches! This class was very easy. Show up and you will pass. Be prepared to write 2 essays about plays. His tests are open ended so make sure to study the key termsvocab. He was very unclear about his directions so make sure you clarify!!!!
Lots of reading and writing required. The plays are ridiculous. Long, boring and hard to understand. This is not your typical fun drama class, this is more like EnglishHistoryDiversity class. Probably isn't his fault. But, he should have been more clear about what he wants in our essays! Everyone was confused.
Be prepared for a lot of essays! There is 5 essays total and a couple of quizes. Hes a hard grader on the essays but if you turn it in early he will tell you what you need to correct!
I took this class in spring 2016. I regret signing up with him. He doesn't pay attention to any questions you have. He doesn't even make eye contact with you when working one on one. There's so many papers and literally had 4 books. Most of them you can't even rent or are in really bad condition. He does NOT work with you. Save yourself, avoid him.
Sam is a very passionate, caring, and reasonable professor. He also assigns lots of work, but everything helps you as an actor. Sam allows up to two absences, after that he takes away points. If you do the work, even late, it is easy to pass. Sam gives feedback, tough at times, but it is meant to help you grow. Sam is an amazing guy and teacher.
Professor Williams was amazing. His TA306 class was so fun, we watched movies and took notes on them and there were essay's but they were supper easy. He teaches you how to write the essays if you just listen you will get an A on them most of the time. Overall, I learned a lot in his class.
Great teacher, i'm a business major who just took this class for general ed requirements and i enjoyed him and the class. Very fair grader if you do your part and it's not too hard. There's some work but that's normal for the college level. Pretty hard not to pass.
Professor Williams is very good at what he's doing, and lectures are engaging and informative. But when its come to exams and guidelines, he's not very clear at all and is a little vague about what you need to do precisely which might affect your grade. The class has a good vibe and its fun to be there as you work mostly in scenes.
Very fun guy to learn from. Makes class fun, and easy to learn. I had a great time in all of his classes.
Sam is one of my favorite professors because he genuinely cares about your progress in the class and encourages you to do more and BE more. He is a great actor and has specific tips and great advice. And he is such a fun professor!
Williams is an awesome person and is super passionate about what he does. There's lots of activities in class, so be prepared for a very active semester. He's quite disorganized, and the lecture portions aren't great. Feedback on performances is very minimal. There were 4 quizzes, 2 short papers, and 3 performances (which include come paper work).
Sam Williams is a pretty good actor/dancer. The class was alright but I would not take it again. Sam picks on students and does not give equal treatment. If it wasn't for his attitude and character, I would recommend the class. He's quite rude at times and pretty much ignores your questions if he feels they aren't important. 2 Essays + 4 Quizzes
Took the online summer class, there were 3 assignments a week, one usually had a required movie to watch that was about 2 hours. I can't stress enough to those who procrastinate to check how long the movie is so you're not pressed for time to complete the response paper. I didn't have to spend much time on assignments, fairly easy/stressfree class.
This was genuinely the most useless class I've ever taken. Sam seems like a cool guy, and maybe a non COVID in person class with him would have been better, but each class was just an hour and a half of vocal warm ups with no explanation of what they were for. Vocal warmups are useless if you never get to the thing you were warming up to do.
Here's a professor who genuinely wants his students to succeed, he is a wonderful man with so much to offer his students. He has a great way of articulating acting theory and creative activities to help instill the practice and application of those theories. He does require a write-up of your scenes but I found those to be interesting.
Prof williams is truly inspiring. I'm new to acting but he made me feel right at home. Planning on taking the next course later on.
I would find an easier teacher. Teachers comments can be insulting, quite a few analysis papers with grading criteria but even if you write well if you want to pass the class, you have to change your writing strategy to fit his idea of a good paper. Meaning put many unnecessary spaces between everything. A demanding class. You wont learn much.
Professor Williams assigns many papers based off reading specific plays. His feedback can be confusing so be sure to schedule an office hours visit and get clarification. Despite the massive amount of papers, there are no tests, no final exam, no set class time.
BEST TEACHER EVER!!! He grades very fairly. He is also very inspirational and has inspired me to be a better human being. I would definitely recommend taking TA 306.
Sam is a great teacher for acting, he can be a little tough but it comes from a place of wanting the best for the student. I wasn't prepared for how intensive this class would be but in the end it's very rewarding. Study for the quizzes and do the extra credit and you should do fine. He hands out everything in hard copies, so get a binder.
I love this professor. His classes were fun and engaging, he can be a tough grader but that really pushed me to do better. He truly believes in his students. Everything he says in his class is important so always listen. Study for the quizzes and you will be fine.
