Okay I'm in her COMP I class (ENGL 121) and this was a very easy class. Honestly, read the textbook assignments and turn in your paper on the due date. Nothing hard. A very easy A for me. I wouldn't recommend missing days on Friday's as she normally assigns in class writings. Also she's cute and on Friday's gives out weird news for fun. Recommended

I found Sam Bell to be a good teacher and felt that she helped expand my knowledge of and my ability to interprate different forms of literature. You will do well Intro to Lit no matter what your interpretation of a piece is. Just make sure your ideas are supported by the reading. She is flexable and this class is "doable."

I thought I would hate this class ended up loving it! Sam was great - very open to your ideas and very clear in explaining writing concepts & analogies. Lots of in-class writing which I thought would suck but I actually enjoy writing now! She gives great feedback! Be in class & be prepared-READ the homework! I'd take her again for other classes!

VERY helpful and nice. in-class writing gets much easier. you can correct your papers and get a better grade too which helps alot, take advantage of that. she also brings in "weird news" which is a good way to break the ice the first few weeks. overall great teacher and person, id definitely take another class with her!!

She is very flexible and understands how hectic life can be. In-class writing is done regularly. Good communication comes from practice, so there is a reason for doing the in-class writing! VERY EASY TO GET AN A IN THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE THE MOTIVATION TO DO SO! She is very laid-back and mellow. Her class was a nice change of pace.

Sam is definitely one of the best professors at JCCC. She is really laid-back and very flexible. The class was basically discussion and you had to write 5 papers. She is a very fair grader and comments on your papers to let you know why you got the grade. If you dont like the grade, she lets you revise it and give it back for a new grade. TAKE HER!

Decent instructor, but tends to ramble on a bit. You don't need to buy the Easy Writer book, but you will use the other ones. Five assigned papers, no final. There is frequent in-class writing, so you have to show up regularly if you want a good grade. You can resubmit papers for a better grade too.

I absolutely loved her. She assigns 5 papers throughout the semester, and you read a novel. You don't need the Easy Writer book, but get the textbook. She's really laid back, and grades fairly. She's a big KU fan, so expect to hear the scores of whatever game.

Great teacher! Her personality is great, and is very kind and helpful. Four papers were assigned, including the final, plus some assessments of yourself. If you enjoy writing, this class should be a breeze. If not, you'll still do fine. She'll make sure you understand what you're doing, and you can revise papers for higher grades.

Very easygoing, and definitely passionate about her work. She's more than willing to help you work on a draft, and will even take early copies of your projects to proofread and hand back to you with feedback. Would definitely take again.

I loved her class! She lets you turn in papers a week late with no penalty and she will edit your papers line by line for you! Also you have up until the final to do revisions of your paper and receive full credit for it! There are four papers and a written final, and she brings weird news! So much fun! Loved her class!

By far the best teacher I have had! Daily writing assignments in class so you MUST attend. I made the mistake of not showing up at the beginning and had to work hard to bring my grade up! 4 big writing assignments, allowed to turn in a week late. revisions allowed of writing assignments. Easy class if you put in the work.

She hates textbooks and only assigns two page papers with a week of leeway on each. Just make sure you participate every once in awhile she grades participation.

She was a great instructor and did a fairly decent job, though a bit unorthodox as she is more of a creative than just a writing instructor... which is great if you like being creative and imaginative. Not so much if you like the traditional, boring way of learning how to write.

Loved her so much, I took Comp II with her as well. She is the kind of English teacher who cares about WHAT you write, instead of getting hung up on formatting and grammatical mechanics. Really helped with my writing and the in class discussions made things matter.

Sam is an amazing teacher! Her lectures consist of her asking students simple questions over readings. There is a very simple and easy in class writing everyday. It may seem like a lot but, it is helpful for reviewing writing styles and improving your writing overall. She lets you rewrite every paper if you don't like your grade. She is amazing!

I took Honors Comp with Sam and it was my favorite class that I've ever taken anywhere. She guided great discussions about the books we read, worked with the students to get an A on each paper, and gave great feedback about my writing. My writing definitely grew a lot stronger and more concise under her teaching. She's a great professor!

She picks good topics and good books. we talked about all of the material in class. she gave many options for all writing assignments, which made it much easier. She xlearly wants you to pass and is willing to do anything she can to help. no required lengths for papers either which was helpful!

I took Comp 2 from her, and it took me a while to get used to her teaching style. She is very lenient and doesn't assign how long a paper needs to be or how many sources you need to have. However, there is in class writing almost every class, so don't skip often. She also allows you to rewrite a paper and resubmit it to be regraded.

I changed my work schedule so I could take her class again. Seriously. Sam is one of the best teachers I've ever had hands down. You can write about pretty much whatever you want for every paper. There's no page length requirements so you write until the piece is finished and that's it. Come to class and write the papers and you'll have an A.

The Professor Bell is really nice and she is easy going. The unit papers has no length, it is up to you. We did in-class writing but there are easy points. (Write many details as possible.) Last week of class we did creative writing and it was fun experience. You can also revise your unit papers! There is no extra credits.

Best class I've taken at JCCC hands down. I took Comp 1 and 2 with this professor and she really does care about helping you improve your writing skills and some of the papers for the class are really applicable to life skills.

The class is very easy and simple. There isnt very much homework , except when you have papers assigned. I took honors comp 1 with Sam , I loved it. I didn't find it challenging.

As an international student, I sincerely think that I learned lots of things through her class. She always give students detailed feedbacks about the assignment that they submitted. Honors class is based on the discussion and you might need to read lots of things. Also the great point for her class is you can revise your papers to get better grade.

Not only does she provide fundamentally specific feedback, but it is always given with such kindness that it never feels like criticism. The online class was extremely manageable with a weekly discussion post, a weekly writing post, and a few papers here and there. Sam makes me feel as if I'm underpaying for a class and I never feel that way.

Instead of giving extra credit, she lets you REWRITE ANY OF YOUR PREVIOUS PAPERS! She lets you make revisions after it's been graded and turn them in to be regraded. Doesn't average the grades, she just throws away the worse grade! Awesome teacher! Very understanding!

Lots of writing every week. She gives great feedback and is very supportive. Wonderful teacher will take more classes from her. HOWEVER, the textbook is written by her and was never really used just a story of her life and some simple outlines of basic writing structures that you can lookup online. SKIP THE TEXTBOOK and SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Prof. Bell's Honors Comp was really fun! Her curriculum is streamlined to teach you four styles of writing. We read two books during the semester. Her classes aren't lectures, they're more discussion-based. She doesn't just teach to teach either; she cares if you come away from the class with something or not. She was a joy to have as professor.

This is the 2nd course I've taken taught by Sam. She is very clear on content and how grades are determined. She gives students freedom to explore their own research topics. She gives detailed feedback which is very helpful. She also allows students the option to revise one of their graded papers. I'm glad I had the opportunity to take her again!!!

I am currently taking Comp 1 Honors and I love it. I don't think reading/writing is my specialty, but she gives really good feedback on class writing activities that help you improve. We write essays at the end of each assigned book, but they are not about the books themselves. She is pretty funny and has a great personality.

Online class so I never met her but Prof. Bell is pleasant in communication and responds quickly to questions. Weekly writing assignments and four major papers. She lets you rewrite one of the major papers if you want a better grade. She gives good feedback and constructive criticism. I feel more confident in my writing after taking her class.

I took Professor Bell's online summer course, it consisted of 3 writing responses and 4 papers, so no room for missing assignments. She was quick to email back (within the next day) and would give notes/suggestions on submitted drafts. Just like any online course you need to be self motivated but Prof. Bell was accessible if you needed help.

Professor was caring, funny, and helped me overcome confidence issues I had with my writing. She makes you work, but she is very happy to help you and takes drafts. Individual teacher conferences were something I had never done before, but they were very helpful. Would take this teacher for every class if I could.

I really enjoyed the class, I never realized how much I enjoyed writing, she has you read the book and do assignment to understand what the criteria for her papers, there were a total of 4 papers due, still vetting interesting to write !

My first composition class with proper MLA & stuff, and she was the best. Made sure your head was in the game and made you work for it. Clearly near the top of her field. Engaging speaker, open-minded and respectful of problems and questions. Even included INDIVIDUAL STUDENT CHECK-UPS.

I ended up having a one-on-one zoom meeting with Prof Bell, because I was feeling confused and discouraged after receiving feedback from other students. She was so encouraging and gave me great suggestions to make my paper the best it can be! She encouraged us to try different learning styles, and I think I found mine in this class!

I took an honors course. Professor Bell was super helpful and always gives you great feedback. She is prompt in communications and is very organized with her assignments: I always knew what was due and when. Be ready to write a paper every two weeks or so. She is out to teach if you're willing to learn. Taking her again next semester for comp II.

I took Creative Writing hoping to do more writing. Prof. Bell only had us write one paper but you get a ton of feedback from her and other students. You also learn to give feedback. That is mainly all the course consisted of but I still learned a lot. Great class!

Gives helpful feedback on the way the professor wants you to write the essays. For me, the essay prompts were rather easy and allowed for me to have plenty to write about. There are three essays and each one is laid out in the same format. Make sure you get the work done on time and you should be fine.

Professor Bell is extremely helpful. She takes the time to read rough drafts and give feedback on them. Somewhat of a tough grader, but as long as you pay attention to feedback on previous papers you can do better on the next one! We read 3 books, wrote response papers on each then wrote essay papers covering a relating topic. No set paper lengths!

I took the Honors course with Dr. Bell and truly enjoyed it! The material can be emotionally heavy but the class is worth it. Start your papers early and reach out to her for feedback. Her responses are always well thought out. Check your work against her rubrics and you should do well. It was a great chance to evolve my writing style!

Professor Bell is very knowledgeable and will grade you accordingly, however, she gives exceptional feedback. She allows you to send in 2 drafts for each paper and will give thorough feedback on both drafts. Follow her feedback and you're guaranteed an A!

I had to retake English 1 because my old professor was not the best and I was nervous on how this class was gonna go, but she made the time we had with her enjoyable. She was my professor once covid hit when teachers and students were having a hard time dealing with it, but she was super understanding and extremely helpful. 100% recommend

Other than the lectures being hard to sit through, the class was really easy. She has no tests, quizzes, or finals and only grades you on the 3 papers you have to write and the drafts for those papers. She answers emails fairly quickly and is willing to answer as many questions in regards to your papers. Definitely recommend!

I had Professor Bell for her online COMP II class and I had a great experience. You have a total of 13 assignments for COMP II and as long as you meet the requirements, you'll do great. She answers emails at a reasonable time and is open to any questions you may have. If you're thinking of taking COMP I or II, take it with Professor Bell.

Sam is great and all but you get graded on vey little things and you only have 3 essays, if you miss one your grade will be ruined. her textbook is expensive and we barely used it. she does not offer extra credit so don't even bother to ask.

I had her for Comp 1 and Comp 2. Comp 1 was in person and the second was online. I think I prefer the online class more because it was easier to move at my own pace and I was able to put more effort into my essays than the reading assignments in person. She's very personable in both classes and gives great feedback. I'd keep taking her.

There are only 3 papers that you have to write for this class and then a few 1 page assignments. It was a super easy class as long as you follow her rubric's for everything. She gives no extra credit, but honestly you shouldn't need it.

This is the professor that you want, I promise. There are three 5-week Parts. Each is three 1-page writings, one 7-page essay, plus an "off week". Rubrics are clear, and Sam is incredibly fair, kind, and responsive. Best is that the Parts cover your past/present/future; by the end you will know a lot more about yourself. Overall a wonderful course!

There really weren't *that* many papers, but as long as you follow the rubric she gives you, then you will get an A. She gives AMAZING feedback on your writing, which is very beneficial for someone who is going on to be a creative writing major (Me). I'd absolutely take another class with her if I had to. I can't recommend her enough! She's great!

Quite a bit of reading, but it's not at all hard or too much. Work load isn't bad at all either. If you're passionate about creative writing, this class will be great for you. I never felt judged for my writing in a way that wasn't constructive. Wonderful professor.

I took creative writing with her and while my writing was good, I felt I wasn't guided much. I would've liked more information on creating prompts for fiction, how to write dialogue, and how to create supporting characters.
