This teacher should not be teaching! She has no respect for her students and really does not care if you succeed or fail! I would actually go so far to say that she tries to make you fail just to show how "tough" she is! A definate disgrace to S
I think she's a great teacher. The class isn't easy, but if you can get through physiology this one shouldn't be a problem.

Prof. Venable is arrogant and unhelpful. Her quizes are worded so that it is difficult to get an A even if you know the info. It seems as though she wants you to struggle just to prove how hard her class is. Very Frustrating!!! Avoid her if you can.
not an easy class and tests can be tricky, and prof. is a bit difficult.
THIS LADY GETS OFF ON WATCHING STUDENTS FAIL. SADDLEBACK NEEDS A NEW INSTRUCTOR ASAP.
Just like she says in the beginning of the class, she feels responsible for keeping us safe as nurses from administering drugs incorrectly. If she was an easy teacher, I would be scared for the nurses who coasted by in her class.
Not my favorite teacher, she could have left out the 15 minute family metaphors that appear at every lecture. Tests often only have 15 questions and a drug not discussed in class will be on it. The workbook is so full of errors it's useless.
Most arrogant and unhelpful teacher I have ever had! She THRIVES on our failure. She tells us what bad nurses we all will make based on our test scores, but doesn't that reflect how bad her teaching skills are? I can't wait to prove her wrong!
Hard class but she gives interesting lectures. Tells stories to help you remember material. I liked her very much.
this class is hard only cuz she makes it hard. too bad there isn't someone else that teaches this class
Sam Venable is a truly horrible teacher. She does not want to see her students succeed. She is unstable. You never know what mood she is in till she opens her mouth and destroys your confidence and self-esteem. What a disservice she provides to the nursing profession.
Trys to make the class fun and interesting. Very fair with tests.
This teacher really tries to help. She is an excellent lecturer and makes hard topics understandable.
All of you complaining just did not want to do the work. This teacher is great. She is very organized and has a great sense of humor.
This was an excellent class! Every section covered in class was applicable and relevant in my life. If you put the time and energy into the class, you will walk away with a good grade. I highly recommend the study sessions with George to help you focus on what is important.
This is the second class that I have had with Professor Venable. I find that she is very enthusiastic, encouraging and well informed. She is quick to respond to questions via e-mail. If you make the effort to get to know her,I am sure you will find her to be an encouragement in your medical studies.
Professor Venable is very organized and gives great lectures. The tests are not easy but they cover the material. She is approachable and always responds to phone calls or emails. She also helped me alot during office hours. You will walk away knowing you really learned something.
Very smart. Has great stories. Interesting learning. Just try to gauge what mood she's in for the day. If the mood is good, she's great. If she's crabby, run and hide.
wastes time on telling stories about her "family" rather then teaching the material.
Prof Venable is an excellent teacher. She explains things well. I suggest recording her lectures and going to the tutorial sessions with George. She is great. I enjoy her class very much. And I do actually enjoy listening to her stories, you learn while being entertained. Awesome teacher :)
all you people who are giving her 5's are CRAZY. she is the worst Prof. at saddleback!
I really learned alot from this class. I like Samantha. I think she does a great job with a hard subject.
Samantha does great lectures with a sense of humor. The powerpoint slides are usually helpful, but not always. She responds really fast to e-mails and always answers my questions.
Samantha is a very good lecturer. I think the tests are hard but I felt prepared. I really like her sense of humor.
Excellent & very knowledgeable instructor. Tough exams, but having a tutor makes it really manageable. Record lectures & listen prior to exams & HIRE a tutor. Don't miss too many points early on or you'll be pulling your hair counting points you've missed to keep your A. Stressful class, but now that it's over, really enjoyed & learned a lot.
I can see how people would be intimidated by Samantha because she does expect a lot from RN students - and rightly so, we affect people's health and lives. In my opinion she never came across as mean or rude at any time during the semester. I learned a lot and her lectures were very interesting. Her tests were easier than I thought they would be.
Very short tempered, mean spirited instructor. Distressing to see that she is still part of what is otherwise an excellent nursing facility.
Very good teacher, but tough tests. Be prepared or you will not make it. Her test questions have many probable answers, must know and understand the info given.
Samantha is a good instructor and I found her lectures interesting and funny, her tests are hard so you have to be prepared. It is easy to get an A if you study thouroughly and understand material.
I heard horror stories; not true. Her lectures are interesting with lots of stories that are pertinent to the info. STUDY HARD, tests are not easy and take a lot of thinking but they are based on the info given, just hard. Looking forward to seeing her again in the RN program.
She is not what I expected. She is very laid-back and really calm when doing a procedure. She is very supportive and helpful. She even lends her palm pilot when you can't find a drug. I learned alot from her.
Heard very bad things. Pleasantly surprised! Samantha is awesome. Her lectures are funny, she emails back very fast. All that said, her tests are very hard. STUDY. Very proud of the weight she's lost, and rightly so; she looks great. Always cute and professional. I can't wait to take her in clinicals. She really is brilliant and a great teacher.
Samantha is great. She really knows her stuff and makes it interesting. You should follow the lecture objectives for the test. She takes the questions from that. Too much work for a 2 unit class.
All I can say is that Samantha is the nicest and most helpful teacher I have ever had.
Samantha is one of the more difficult teachers I have had, but you will learn a lot! Follow her lecture notes and pay attention to what she says during class. Quizzes are hard, but if you study you'll be fine. She can be confusing, make her clarify! Getting a high 'A' in the class, but I think she's very unorganized which makes it hard to study.
Very interesting class. Pay close atten to her stories..they show up as questions on the quiz. Tests were difficult, many questions look like they could have 2 possible answers. Be organized when studying-find a way to keep all the info straight and you will do fine. The workbook helps a lot-buy it. I learned a lot!!
Samantha really likes teaching and it shows. The class is not easy, but she is very fair. Be sure to do the lecture objectives because they will help you with the tests.
Samantha is a great teacher. It helps to print out the lectures beforehand and do the lecture objectives for the tests. She is very approachable. This class requires a lot of studying and you must attend class. Her stories are entertaining but make sure you pay attention because she will also ask questions about these stories.

This is a really hard class. Samantha is always available to answer my questions. I can't believe how fast she responds to my emails. You should do the lecture objectives and if you don't understand them ask Samantha. She is really nice.
Samantha is frazzled and disorganized, which really makes learning, esp at this level, difficult! She means well, but she isn't always at her office hours when she says she will be, plus sometimes during lecture she runs out of time. I'm barely getting an A, I got an A in all my core classes, & I'm still struggling.
Intelligent but does have some ethical issues, she would tell demeaning stories/joke about men during lecture. For a teacher of her status I expected more professionalism from her like her colegues.
Give me a break. Samantha does not even lecture in N176 so how can she make demeaning remarks?
Hey, no one said that Samantha would be easy, but she is willing to help, and the woman is brilliant!
Samantha knows her stuff & totally rocks! Yeah, she jokes around - she's REAL & tells it like it is. LOVED this difficult class - STICK TO THE NOTES! She's the bomb for giving out awesome notes & she's gr8 at answering emails, etc so APPRECIATE HER! Anyone that bags on her has no right! W/her experience, how could anyone not appreciate her?!!

Samantha is a great instructor, cares about the art of nursing, and she makes you think. This course is TOUGH! If you go to her office hours, email her, and behave like a college student, all grown up, always on time and study hard, you will be successful in pharm. This class isn't for sissies, or immature ya-hoos! ;) Her notes rock!
Samantha won't take crap off of anyone. Come to class with your manners on. Don't expect "breaks" or "slack". If your late, don't listen or epect not to work hard, try high school again. This lady ROCKS! She'll let you know what's on the test, if you LISTEN. Join a study group. Don't wast time! STUDY!
Loved this class. Samantha is smart and funny. Listen to the stories because you can bet they are telling you something that is on the test. The notes are awesome. I had to work hard for my A, but Samantha really helped me to understand the subject.
Tough subject. Good instructor. For future nursing students, learn this stuff...it will follow you throughout school. Pay attention to her lectures, she emphasizes what will be on the test and important facts to know.
This class was super hard and I did not care for this teacher at all. She was not very nice and seems to be mad at the world. Her test questions are tricky. You must study a lot. I got an A only because I had the tutor who took the class before us.
This teacher was not very nice at all. She made some rude comments to students and after that, she has not been my favorite teacher. Tests are hard so you must study a lot. We had a sub one week who was so nice and explained everything in detail. I wish she could have been our teacher full time. Good luck with this class and teacher!
Samantha was GREAT!!!! She has a wealth of knowledge and the wisdom to share it. If you didn't like the class than you shouldn't be a nurse! Find another major....
Very tough class, very EXCELLENT prof. Don't know what the prob is w/ the 2 neg posts but if you make a med error PEOPLE DIE so if you don't appreciate the severity of what you're getting into then maybe you need to look into a different career. Samantha teaches well and cares but you need to give 100% effort, in class and in nursing.
As an RN, you gotta know your stuff, esp pharm for crying out loud! I'm in 3rd semester, I took this class in 04. There are TONS of meds out there so you MUST know how to safely administer meds. I visited her office hours 3 or 4 times, she always helped me & I also emailed her 5 or 6 times & she wrote back.
Very rude and unhelpful. Would never recommend this professor
Samantha is probably the most helpful professor I have ever had. She returns emails the same day and has made time for me when I could not get to her office hours. She always stays after lecture to answer questions. What more do you want?
I've really learned alot in this class. Samantha is funny but really knows her stuff. Tough subject but Samantha makes it fun.
I don't know why others are saying shes mean and rude. Shes been very sweet to this point and is willing to help students out with whatever questions they have. Her quizes are HARD. They'll make you cry.
You either love her or not, but you will learn. Highlight everything she mentions in class. It will be on the test. Her powerpoints are also on the test. HARD TESTS!!! NCLEX style, you have to pick the "best" answer...
Samantha is an extremely knowledgeable teacher. She has funny stories to tell, which make the subject interesting and retainable. She can be a bit moody at times. The tests are hard, which is to be expected. I would definitly recommend this teacher to anyone taking pharm.
talked about self too much, off topic. Intimidating.
Her personal stories aren?t off-topic. They all relate to the material and help you understand and learn the information. She's a great teacher and I highly recommend taking her (Unless you're lazy and want to wing it through school). If you're not prepared to study hardcore, don't take her class. You won't succeed.
This class is not easy but Samantha really knows her stuff and she wants you to learn. Be sure to do the lecture objectives. They are always on the quizzes.
The worst thing about this class was the fact that it was only 2.5 units, while at least 30 hours of extra study a week were required to comprehend the subject matter. So,you forget everything you learn from week to week. It was WAY over the level of Pharmacology that an RN needs. DO NOT take this class with any other class if you want to succeed.
Hard questions and some seem absolutely unnecessary. But overall this woman knows her stuff. She has mood swings and it seems like the whole semester was a roller coaster of her mood, but overall she will teach you everything you need to know, intimidating and not so friendly. no homework and 25 pt quiz every week... good luck
The lecture is very clear and she has visual aids as well. The tests come straight from the lecture and lecture notes. This is a hard subject so be prepared and take the class by itself if you can.
She rolled her eyes at me when I asked her a question. Like I am an idiot. I'm not an idiot... I can't stand her now. I disliked her before, and can't wait to be done with this class. She is on her own power trip.
THIS IS A HARD CLASS. If you cant handle this you might as well find a different major. She's a wonderful person. She's only nasty to the people who are idiots and ask questions she has clearly gone over. Make sure to take really easy classes or no other classes when taking this class. I studied 20 hrs a weeks for this class. I love this woman.
She is a nice person, but she desperately wants to retire. It shows- she does not go out of her way for you in this class. You won't learn physiology regarding drugs. She forgets that a majority of the class is NOT in the nursing program yet/is not working in the hospital. Mostly memorization, very little textbook use. All for 2.5 credits...

For the person who said that she is only nasty to idiots, i'm sorry, she is a teacher, and should never be nasty to anyone who, there is no such thing as a stupid question, when your career goal is on the line! I don't care how stupid she may think a question is! There are MULTIPLE ERRORS IN HERE LITERATURE!!!! Not a good way to start in this field
I am an A student, so if anyone who wants to put down anyone who hates this teacher, and say it's because they are not a hard worker, or a slacker, then you are a child who probably lives with your mommy and has no job and no life! THIS WOMAN HAS SERIOUS ISSUES! There are teachers that want you to do well, she has something to prove. Not beneficial
The material is not as hard as this teacher makes the testing. I fully understand, and put a lot of time into learning the material as well as listening to the audio, & reading "HER BOOK". She tests at an unreasonable comprehension level. She tries to be tricky, not conducive to my success. Take Pharm at another school if you can. I'm an A Student.
Prof Venable is extremely knowledgable, provides very good information about meds that you'll need to know as a working nurse. Her lectures are clear, she provides outlines, tests weekly so info won't be voluminous. She is nice, funny, personable and very GOOD at teaching Pharm! So glad I have her. An A is hard to get but doable.
Professor Venable is very intelligent and knows the information quite well however tests are very random so it is best to study everything. Her book and lecture notes seem different, really don't need book at all! She definitely can be moody and make you feel inferior and dumb at times. Just make sure you study the notes and you will be fine!
Pharm was difficult. We tackled a lot of drugs in such a short time.If you want to get an A,study her pdf notes, listen to her mp3(She's so nice to record lectures for us),and put stars on your lectures where she emphasizes points. If you want to succeed in nursing, read her book.very knowledgable professor.Very prompt on emails.doable class.
This is not an easy subject but Professor Venable makes it interesting. She is willing to help anytime and great about answering emails. She also records her lectures so if you missed anything you can go back and hear it again. I really liked her class.
Samantha is the best professor I have ever had! Smart, funny and very supportive! This class is tough so you have to study hard. Worth every minute of my time. Enjoyed and learned a lifetime of knowledge!
This course is def hard...u need alot of study time..tests are all about critical thinking. By far the hardest course i have ever taken and that is including Physio with Kara. However, Samantha is very clear, and as long as u study the right way youll be fine...GOOD LUCK
An awful teacher. I do not say this as a "slacker" student; I am a Nursing student and take my education seriously. Teacher cuts class off an hour early, only to tell the class that other sections she didn't lecture on in class are our responsibility to go over at home! That's right- lecture on one topic, let students teach themselves three others
I am "A" student. I took this course last semester. I do not like her and this pharmacology.I can read this book myself.TOO MANY MISTAKES! I think she must go back to jale(her real job).
Biggest issue is questions are ambiguous, poorly written. This is why her class is so hard, not bec you didn't learn the material but bec you don't think the way she does. ex: increase gastric emptying time actually means slows gastric emptying, but not to her. expect 3 word answers to email. read the book bec she makes errors in class.
Pharmacology is hard, but that is expected. Samantha gives you all the tools you need to succeed. She posts her lectures online, as well as lecture objectives. I purchased the study guide and it's a huge help. I really only used the study guide and lectures to study, barely used the text. She is helpful, but yes she does have an ego. Informative!
This teacher is a good lecturer and keeps class interesting. When getting help one on one, she was surprisingly condescending bordering on insulting. She wasnt genuinely interested in helping - she was more interested in hearing herself sound superior. I just want to get through this class and be done with her.
Lectures are long, but clear and well-presented. She provides notes to study from, and posts her lecture (audio) online each week. Tests can be pretty tricky; there are always some questions that will stump you. It is hard to have one on one with her, office hours after class have a line of people waiting.
Professor Venable is wonderful. It is amazing how she takes a hard subject and creates easy ways of understanding it. She is extremely wise. I guess being an older college student, I really appreciate her wisdom. I really hope I get to learn from her in the future. She should not retire yet!
Samantha is passionate about pharmacology and it shows! Don't expect this to be an easy class, you will earn your grade, but the knowledge you take with u will be worth it! During my rotations in nursing school, current nurses/former students of samanthas' can be heard quoting her in the med room.. That makes a wonderful teacher!
This is a great class. Listen, study and you will pass. There are weekly quizzes and a final. Quizzes are directly from the lecture. If you pay attention, you won't fail. Print out the lecture notes to follow along during class.
class is not difficult at all. the trick is to know what the drug is triggering. by knowing that you will know the AE, nursing implications etc. i barley had time to study my self since i had four other classes and work so really best advice is before you attempt to memorize the drug understand what its doing to the body.
Samantha Venable is one of my favorite teachers. She is very specific in her expectations and provides crystal clear information in her lectures. I enjoyed her personal stories which correlated with the drugs we were covering. She is a strong-willed ,smart, and funny lady. I feel very fortunate to have been her student.
