I have a lot of trouble in this class, but that's only because of the subject material. Professor Naik is extremely helpful and goes out of his way to help the students. He holds problem solving sessions and always keeps us updated via email. Mad props to Naik. Kudos!
I HATE THIS SUBJECT, but Sameer is an AWESOME prof. If you have to take it, take it with him
Awsome, make sure you take the class with him if you have the choice
Excellent Prof. Went out of his way and offered help outside of class to struggling students like me. got a 47 on the first test but ended up with a B in the end with all credit going to his help. If you have a chance to pick him as a prof for any course make sure you pick him.
not just an incredible professor, but an incredible human as well
The most helpful teacher I've had in college.
Absolute best professor at ME315, its hard to get why he does what he does, but hes just truly out there engaged in helping us learn, not tearing us down. I really learned a LOT from his lectures and just from him as a person in whole. You must help others and good things may happen to you.
Great teacher and person. Flys through lectures however he must have more free time then any professor ever cause he's always available for help
By far the best professor in ME. Held excellent review sessions and solved a lot of questions
Awesome teacher. Makes thermo understandable.
Has a lot of knowledge in the subject and always ready to explain in detail. Very Very helpful professor! If you are taking ME 200, I would say take it with ONLY him!
he's awesome :]
Really cares about the student
He's excellent
Great teacher. Knew my name by the first test in a class of around 80. All of my friends in other sections came to his review sessions and will say he taught them more Thermo in 3 2 hour sessions than their profs did all semester.
Lectures are well-balanced between theory and example problems. He goes out of his way to help his students succeed--for example, he provided a summary of all applicable material before each exam.
I have one degree and am working on another and this Professor is one of the top 1 or 2 professors I have ever had. Go out of your way to get this guy for your class; it will be worth it!
Really clear with explanation and very helpful. He could remember every student name and face in a class of about 150 students that is how much he care for the students.
Naik is amazing! He has review sessions out of class and sends emails with detailed instructions on how to do homework and supplemental problems. Very personable if you go to his office. He is just a good guy who wants to help you learn. That being said, ME200 is difficult, but Naik will help you get through it. He is the only reason I got an A.
Great Professor! Had more office hours and review sessions that should be allowed. Not being an ME major, I did very well in what is supposed to be a really hard class.
Sameer is easily the best professor I've ever had, and arguably one of the best here at Purdue. I've had him twice, and if I could have him again, I would in a heartbeat. Crystal clear lectures, useful examples, and very fair exams. If you have another prof for a course, I would recommend trying to switch to have Sameer (even if it's at 7:30).
Amazing guy! He is one of the rare few who gets enjoyment when other people learn what he teaches. I would recommend him even if you have to get up for his 7:30 lecture.
just awesome professor!! very clear in explaining the concepts. gives crystal clear notes. you will be attentive in his class no matter what. has a very confident personality. JUST AWESOME!!!
He's the type of professor you wish you had for all your course. Enough Said!
He is the greatest professor I have ever seen! Knowledgeable and helpful! Also he inspired my interest for Thermodynamics.
I wasn't actually in Naik's section, but my friend was, and he showed me all of the notes he had given them. They were definitely the most organized and clearest. I went to his class the last week of the semester for his review, and I learned more in that week than i had the whole semester in my section. He is a great guy.
I didn't even have Naik as my professor but went to his lectures on top of my own. He is a baller! He basically tells you exactly what to study for the exams during his review sessions and he is always having office hours. By far the best professor there is for ME 200.
Extremely helpful professor. Hands down the best professor I have had in college. He's a very nice person to talk to. You'll do well in his class if you pay attention and do the homework.
Best professor I've ever had. Very clear, extremely helpful. Just a great great guy and amazing professor
Professor Naik is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is an expert when it comes to thermodynamics. He explains things very clearly and is a fantastic teacher. If you are going to take ME200, take it with Naik!
One of the best professors at Purdue. Thermodynamics may be a tough subject to start off at first, but a semester with him, and your concepts are crystal clear. Also make sure to attend his review sessions prior to the midterms, it is amazing, if you have missed a class, it will be covered in the review session with better clarity.
Best Professor I've ever met. Have 100% passion on everything he does. Provides great convenience for student including exam review, homework solution and open book quiz. Deep understanding of not only Thermodynamics but science and philosophy. Humorous in class but serious about suject. Work hard all the time. A great professor and a better mentor
Amazing professor. He has a hilarious bit of ego from attending Stanford but once you get past that you'll find he is incredibly dedicated to his students and goes greatly out of his way to help in any way he can. Absolutely try to have Naik if he is teaching a class you want to take.
Professor Naik is the best professor I've ever had at Purdue! He is extremely passionate about each of his students and is always there to help. He teaches thermo better than any other professor and puts humor in his lectures. If you can get him as a professor no matter the class, do it.
One of the tougher classes I've taken but with the help of such an awesome professor I was able to do well in the class. Hands down best thermo professor ever. I had class 3 days at week at 7:30 but still choose his class over any other section. completely worth it. He usually writes the exams too.
He is amazing! His class is a breeze if you listen to him during lecture and review sessions. He provides homework help, and topics he discuss during review sessions always come up in exam. Also, he is a really sweet guy! :)
Fantastic professor. Cares about students and knows every student by name. Gives fair exams over material directly covered. Holds tons of office hours to help students with homeworktests. Best ME professor at Purdue, highly reccommeded for any thermodynamics, fluids, or heat transfer course even if you have to deal with a undesirable lecture time.
Excellent professor. Often does meaningful examples in class which provide a roadmap for the homework. Prof Naik is self described as being there because he enjoys teaching, and it shows throughout his class.
Very nice guy. Known to help students and make classes easier.
Best professor I've had so far!! He explains how to do problems on the homework, he also sends emails about hw giving you an idea on how to do them. He has exam review sessions before each exam. This class was supposed to very difficult, Professor Naik made it very doable. Pop quizzes are really hard tho. But everyone appluaded him after last lec.
The best professor in ME department.
Awesome
By far, one of the best professors ME has to offer. His lectures aren't really mandatory, but do yourself a favor and don't skip them because he explains things 315 times better than the textbook. His review sessions are the best help you'll get on the exams, and the exams are fair if you follow his instructions. Genuinely an amazing professor
Great professor. Explain the material clear and have good interaction with students
One of the best Professors I have had. He clearly cares about his students. Gives a review session before every exam and discusses homework in class. Many students from other sections come to his class. He tells an occasional joke once in a wile. He tests on what is given and gives as many hints as possible. Quizzes are not easy are open notes.
Definitely the best professor I have had at Purdue. He is extraordinary at presenting the material needed for the exams. I actually looked forward to attending lectures and became more interested in thermodynamics because of him. He even knew all of his students by name. Office hours good. If you have the opportunity to take Naik, don't hesitate.
Best prof of my undergrad. Loves what he teaches, and makes people who think they'll hate thermo actually like it!
Very good lecturer and really cares about all of his students. He replies to emails very quickly and is very helpful during office hours. This class is very hard though. You will have to work if you want to pass. He is definitely the best ME 200 professor. Try to get him if you can because some of the other thermo profs are not that good.
He is one of the best professors in Purdue University. Period
Took him as a senior, and can say without a doubt, he's the best professor in the ME department. Very clear and engaging lectures, explains homework problems in class, great exam review sessions, and fair exams. He's a captivating speaker. Highly recommend him.
Amazing.
Definitely one of the best Professors I've ever had. He cares about investing in college students and is clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the work he does. His lectures are clear and intuitive and he is very engaging. He is also very funny at times and was hands down worth getting up at 7:30am for.
He made thermodynamics haters the lovers.
Awesome lecturer. Retook Thermo and he made it a thousand times easier to understand. His notes are extremely helpful and his teaching style is straightforward and easy to understand.
Probably the most caring professor I've had at Purdue. He is worth taking a 7:30 class and as long as you go to class he will show you how to do everything you need to to do the HWs, quizzes, and pass the exams. It's a hard class but he gives you everything you need to do well as long as you put in the effort.
The best. I would fail the class just to attend his lectures again. He makes thermo fun, and he tries his best. Take him, and you will not regret it
Best Professor I've had at Purdue. Provides great lecture notes, entertaining and precise lectures, and help with homework. Really cares about the students and will always make himself available for additional help and office hours. In summary, he made thermo fun.
Naik is by far one of the best professors I've had at Purdue. His lectures are clear and the examples he goes through are very helpful. He also sends out emails explaining homework hints which can be a very helpful guide when starting homework. Not only is he a great professor, he is also a really caring guy who wants the best for his students.
Incredible professor, it's amazing how he made such hard concepts so easy to understand. I would definitely recommend taking him for this class if you can. He gives lots of homework but he provides homework hints.
I really regret not watching more of the lectures in his class, which is entirely the reason why I did not receive a good grade. Once I started taking more care later on in the course, I saw just how great of a professor Naik was, and saw real improvement near the end. Fantastic lectures, really truly cares about the course and the students.
*Read this! Currently signing up for classes on UniTime? ok, I don't care if you're a 3.9+ GPA student, do NOT even take this class w/o Naik. The gap among professors is insane. I know VERY GOOD students who are getting C's in this course... w/o Naik, that is. Sure, he sometimes randomly starts yelling in lectures... but he knows the content.
ME200 is graded heavily based off of tests, but Naik uploads help videos for every single exam to help you study beforehand. He also uploads help videos for every homework assignment in order to lead you in the right direction. 10/10 one of the top teachers I have had at Purdue.
Professor Naik is a great professor that really cares about his students. If you are taking ME 200 or 300, Dr. Naik is the way to go. He makes complex topics very easy to understand. His recorded lectures are quite long but they are completely worth the time.
I am taking this course during the summer, so my experience differs slightly. Prof. Naik is an excellent lecturer, capable of getting information across quickly and efficiently. However, he has the strictest grading of any prof Ive had. He frequently messes up numerical values on quizzes, and doesnt really grade your logic - just your answers.
Prof. Naik is not only an exceedingly good lecturer but also caring and very fair. I am also taking this course during the summer and the quizzes never had any technical issues - only on one quiz one property value was missing for which all were given credit. This class is very manageable only because of Prof. Naik!
I was an atheist before I took the class, and by the end I was convinced that at least there is atleast one God - Sameer Naik, God of educational thermodynamics.
ME200 is difficult but he did a great job of explaining things in lecture and even giving us weekly homework hints. Those were indispensable. He is a bit intimidating to talk to during office hours but if you can get over the fact that he is stern and stoic, you'll have to agree that he is great at teaching and giving great hints.
Dr. Naik is incredibly smart. A fact that, unfortunately, he is aware of; and at times can come across as arrogant. This makes him a little difficult and intimidating to talk to/ask questions. However, Dr. Naik is by far the best Thermo professor at Purdue. He explains the material very in-depth and clearly. The ME200 Monster (his words not mine)
If you plan on taking ME200, make sure you get Sameer Naik. He is constantly averaging 10% points higher than all other instructors for the course.
Naik makes thermo easy to understand. He provides many clear and relevant examples in class and offers lots of hints for the homework. He prepares you amazingly well for exams and has high expectations. He really doesn't deal with you being "stupid" about concepts and grades tough, but I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Best professor I've had so far. Explained thermo in a way that made me wonder where all of the thermo horror stories came from. Related the material to real systems and even cracked a joke here and there.
The best professor you could ever have. MONSTER OF THERMODYNAMICS.
Great Professor. Explains the material well and gives all the necessary information to succeed in the course. Make sure youre focused in class. Listen carefully to his advice because they are really helpful. Easy A if you did all he tells you to do.
Professor Naik is by far one of the best professors I've had in ME so far. His lectures are fantastic, even when taking the class online because of COVID. I believe he was a very fair grader, and even though we had a lot of homework, it prepared you well for exams and he would give tips for each problem. 10/10
A great professor for such a hard course. He mastered the material and had a clear approach in teaching. He explained loudly and fast but did everything he can to help us tackle all the topics. He provided tips for homeworks and did reviews for exams which were immensely helpful. He is short-tempered but very smart and respected as a person.
Professor Naik has very reasonable expectations and goals for success. He is very prompt in answering questions, and his lectures are very interesting, with him often relating to practical uses as well as future explorations of the topics being taught. He is very clear and concise, and is even funny at times in his lectures.
Dr. Naik is the best ME200 prof hands down. He can be a bit harsh but he is excellent.
Love this professor! Eventhough the content is difficult, you can tell that the professor really wants you to succeed! Go for his section and be sure to read his lecture notes
Very good professor and provides plenty of help for homework.
Best professor I have had at Purdue so far. His lectures are clear and well structured. He is always prepared and it is evident that he is passionate about his work. He has relatively high expectations but he is not harsh or difficult to approach.
Naik is my favorite professor I had at Purdue. He is a really carrying person and wants his students to succeed. His lectures are clear and he is pretty funny sometimes. It worth waking up to go to his 7:30 because of how good he was at teaching. He gives homework hints to all homework problems which are useful too.
The best professor I've had at Purdue by far. I can tell he really cares about his students and their success. What especially sets Naik apart from others are his lectures. He explains all topics so well, that the hardest part of thermo for me was simply doing the algebra after setting up equations. You won't regret waking up for his 7:30 lecture.
Truthfully he is a very good professor, and he made thermo very interesting. Strict but he will crack a joke every now and again. In ME200, it is critical to note that you are graded on your section only. Since Naik has by far the best test averages, you will need to score way better than your friends in different sections to get the same grade.
Naik is actually insane no lie. Theres nothing I can really say that hasnt been said in other reviews.
Professor Naik may be very good at teaching thermodynamics, however, he is often very rude when approached. He refuses to share any of his resources to anyone not in his section, and made fun of the class following an exam because he wasn't happy with the average. His lectures were great, but I was less than happy with my experience.
Not in Naik's section but attending his lectures and office hours. Purdue/ME is lucky to have instructors like him who put heart into their teaching. He simply said "Good start - let's see how you do in the next one; hope you will continue" about the high average. Don't throw shade at an amazing instructor. He isn't rude at all. Mad props to Naik!
Excellent Lecturer, made the topic really clear and easy to follow.
Pretty Good
Naik might be the best professor in Purdue mechanical engineering. His effort to organize the course effectively through great homework hints and printing out notes for all students is completely unmatched by any other course or professor. Naik provides all the materials you need to succeed and goes above and beyond expectations.
Professor Naik is a special professor. He goes above and beyond to make sure everyone can understand the content. He will STRONGLY HINT what questions/topics will be on the exam, and helps with every homework with hints. Thermo is not an easy class, but his teaching and personality will make me remember this class in a positive light.
Probably one of the best professors at Purdue.
great
Amazing teacher. The class is still difficult, but he sets you up for success with the lectures and homework. If you redo the homework problems before the test, you will have a good chance of succeeding in the class. He also provides hints for the homework which make them a lot easier to solve on a first work through.
The best professor I've had at Purdue by far. Teaches in a way that is very easy to understand, provides a lot of extra materials to help students succeed, and is definitely worth waking up to attend his lectures. 100% recommend.
Professor Naik is an excellent lecturer who makes thermodynamics much more digestible. Use Unstuck study and the free textbook for great study prep - his hints on exams are super helpful too.
Great lecturer that makes the content easy to understand. Gives help on homework and exam review. Holds extra office hours close to exams and genuinely cares. If you want to learn and do well his section is the one to be.
Naik is one of the best professors I've had at Purdue. After struggling a lot early on in ME200, I decided to go to his office hours and he helped me turn things around. Now I owe it to him for his lectures are excellent, and he truly cares about student success. He may seem intimidating at first, but he's a genuine and supportive professor.
I recommend going to his class even if you're not in his section.
I took ME 200 over the summer with Naik after failing it during the year with a different professor. I was dreading taking it again, but I ended up actually enjoying it. The course was well organized, the instructions and grading criteria were laid out clearly, and the lectures were great (though I did watch them on 1.25 speed). Highly recommend.
Thermo was very manageable thanks to Prof. Naik. He teaches concepts very effectively and pragmatically that you begin to realize the course just completely revolves around the 3 basic equations and thermo property tables.
Dr. Naik made me love thermodynamics, so much so that it became my favorite class. His lecture videos are extremely insightful, clear, and helpful. He is extremely caring and respectful during his office hours as well. He really just wants to see his students succeed. Overall, if you have the chance, and are in ME200, taking Naik is a necessity.
Phenomenal teacher. You want him as your professor for sure.
His lectures are amazing. Also offers recordings if you miss his lectures or decide not to go. Best professor I've had at Purdue. Genuinely cares about his students.
