(Obaid MAN) Very nice teacher, good grader too!
Tough grader, but good lecturer. Curves the class.
not an easy class, put time in your homework and you'll do fine
nice guy and wants you to pass. Exams are hard because they are long
Great teacher, you just need to listen carefully!
Very good teacher and lecturer, but his tests are hard.
should I have to explain? ;)
Great Professor. Office hours helps! Hard test.
Pro: Very good teacher. Con: Tests r very difficult and he doesn't allow notes
good teacher but hard tests
Great Teacher, Hard Tests, If you want an A don't take this guy if you want to learn take this guy.
Tests are EASY IF u do your hw, which i doubt the other raters did if they said his tests were hard. HW is optional, but do it if u want good score. GREAT LECTURER, explains very clearly
do the hw u score no less than a b...but no slacking off now...and willing to help students lots! recommend to anyone taking him for math 32 or any other math classes
I have to say, this is a very excellent professor. He cares a lot about his students. If you do what he asks, then you will pass the class. He is very clear and very helpful. I recommend this professor to anyone.
If you do your homework and pay attention in class you will pass no problem. He is very FAIR, but not always EASY. He teaches the material in a way that is easy to understand, though. Best math teacher I have had at SJSU.
did no hw or study and pass his class thx to his lectures. but want an A do hw hw hw. now dont slack off hihi. care about students. recomend him for any students who wants to pass and wants to learn. :)
You dumbasses his tests are hella easy. No kidding.
Good teacher. Very funny. Very approachable.
he is a great professor. his test are not that easy but he gave a lot of partial credit. over all he teaches well.
great techer.
easy teacher...very understanding and nice.
Teaching style very student friendly, although you have to overcome a slight accent, everything else is kool...has a sense of humor! very hard to find in professors...Highly recommend for those taking CALC 2. HW is harder than tests...so do HW, u'll pass!
tests arn't difficult, material is clear and well presented
Ok he didn't teach this semester but he substituted for Kubelka once this semester and I really learned a lot from his 1 lecture than i did from Kubelka's entire semester's worth of lecture. Take him if he ever teaches it again
This guy is really helpful. He practically begs for students to come in to office hours. His quizzes are easty but the tests are tricky. He does seem to care though and want students to get it.
Awesome teacher!!! Will go to any extent to help you, and makes learning fun. And he's funny! Best Math teacher I have ever had, hands down. As long as you show up to class and pay some attention, you are guaranteed to pass.
excellent teacher.
He's a great teacher, for anybody who wants to learn calc II go for him, he explains really well and he is fun. he begs students to go to his office hours. If you do the homework you will get high grades on the tests.
He is the GREATEST math teacher ever! Will do whatever it takes to help a student and is very clear on all the different math methods. Makes math fun and easy!
Great teacher, he keeps putting in random jokes and makes the class great. Really helpful as well, he tries to make sure everyone understands the subject. Hope he does some higher level math later so I can take his class again.
Overall, hes a good teacher. Tries to make class fun. Just make sure u show up to class bc he does remember your face, your name and will get all up in your anus during class and office hrs. Test are somewhat easy and straight forward. If u feel u can make the attendance, I recommend this guy to u.
He is a GREAT professor! He is very very nice to his students, and he tries to make the class fun with his jokes, which are amusing to hear hehe..and he is helpful if you have any questions, you can always go to his office hours to ask..he curves the grades, but midterms may be quite hard..take him!
He is a super nice professor.
He is a very good teacher.
Without a doubt one of the best professors of calculus 2 at SJSU. Not the easiest but getting an A is possible if you do the work.
Well, he is a good professor, he will help you as much as he can, but has one kick ass final, extremely hard. But if you work hard enough A is not impossible.
He was a great teacher, he explained things pretty well, but his accent is pretty strong, so somtimes it was hard to understand him. As long as you do all the homework, because he doesn't make u actually do it, you need to do it on your own time, u will do fine. The quizzes are really easy, as well as the tests, and he will sometimes give u hints
This prof. is easy. I fail the final and passed.
Great professor. Very friendly and approachable for help. He tries very hard to get his students to understand the material and always stresses the importance of not missing class. He assigns homework but does not collect it. I did not do the homework, but I studied pretty hard and got an A in the class. Exams are easy but final is very hard.
very cool teacher, easy grading, funny but hard to listen with his french accent and all...would higly recommend though, helps a lot.
He is very helpful....curves and knowledgable. Also tries to make the class interesting.
great teacher, hilarious, grades on basics and simple applications. no HW to turn in but make sure you goto class. he does have pop quizes.
He is cool teacher. Funny. But his test are hard. he grades easy though. kind of gives extra points if you try the question. make sure you talk in class so that he gets to know who you are. Much better than others specially saleem.
HE's a greeeaaaat teacher! He was always there for me when I needed his help. He's so cool, he even gave me a laser pointer for being so nice to him. I wish he could teach all my classes!! He used to tell me, "SHA-VAN" you are a good, good student.
He is a very nice prof.. There are 3 midterms and a final. Hw doesn't count, but quizzes once in a while. His teaching methods are very good and helpful. He helps during office hours and makes sure you understand the topic. Fun Fall '05 class (12:30). Take him, you will learn calc.
funny guy, willing to help, French accent is unique and he goes off tangent sometimes. decent pace for the course. he also grades really easy but DO YOUR HW!!! he doesnt collect it but doing your homework helps you practice for his 6 question exams.
Absolutely awesome prof!! I bet u can't find a better prof for math 31 at SJSU. Knows his stuff pretty well, most fair grader i've known. If u can get into his class, u r all set. Probably the funniest class of fall'05. His class was hilarious and interesting. 3 Midterms and a final & u get your A. He makes u learn Calc. THis guy Rocks!!!
he is a very good teacher. Exams are kinda hard, but if you try to answer the questions, he'll give so much partial credit. He tries to make the class interesting, which is one of his many good qualities. You should take him.
this guy is a great professor...i bombed my first two tests I thought i had failed the class but i did decent towards the end, and for some reason he passed me...this guy assigns no homework...final is counted the same amount as all other tests...gives easy quizzes, test are kind of hard but major curves....this guy is your best bet for math 31..
he's EXCELLENT!!!! thats about all i have to say...i would LOVE to take his class again!
I hated math, but this professor changed my mind and now i respect math. hes really funny and really tries to get everyone to participate. he'll have students go up to the board and answer questions. he's an excellent teacher and a really really nice guy. highly recommended!
he is excellent....the best math teacher i ever had in my life.... i think his class was the funniest class i ever had...even though i didn't have any of my friends in math 31...but i never felt alone bcz it was fun....his tests r easy if you study and do the home works. he gives soooooooo much partial credit... i think that anyone can get a B or a
This teacher was BOMB! He's so awesome! The's really helpful and makes math fun! If you take him, you'll love him!
i took precalc my senior year of high school so most of the year was a review. he is from jordan so he has a very thick accent and a funny way of speaking. I went to probably 75% of the classes and still passes. i would have my friends text me if there was a pop quiz and i'd skate over and show up 5 mins late and take it. awesome teacher TAKE HIM!!
WOW... the most passionate teacher I've ever had... and hilarious, even though he doesn't really try to be funny. Dr. Obaid will bend over backwards for any student who needs help, he understands we have lives and will move exams and quizes as long as nobody is hurt from it. I've had him for 2 semesters, he's one of the best profs I've ever had.
This was probably one of the hardest math classes at this school, not a lot of students will take this class, but if they do you can't go wrong with DR. Obaid. He made this class easy to understand. He is just a great professor. Take any math class with him you won't regret it. You'll have a better understanding for Mathematics.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. I've never seen someone care so much about whether the students are getting it or not. During office hours, he blocks everything and everyone else out and focuses on you. He really enjoys the class and makes you enjoy it. I recommend him a lot
Tough subject overall but he breaks it down in a way that you'll understand it. Curves grades (87% was an A-). 3 midterms, a couple quizzes, and a final. Extremely helpful. Highly Recommended
One of the best math instructors I have had. Very knowledgeable on the vast subject of mathematics. Is very helpful when you attend his office hours. Grades extremely fair and gives good amount of partial credit. Highly recommend taking a course with him.
He explains the material very well and provides excellent help during office hours. Will adjust grades due to class response. He was one of the best math instructors that I have had.
"Elvis Presley Formula!" BEST MATH TEACHER I EVER HAD!!! Math 30P. Dr. Obaid is VERY HELPFUL, always available in his office hours, any Qs or problems understanding material, he sits with you in office and helps a lot! His lectures are clear, homework not required to turn but will help you for class. Gives partial credit on tests. Def. take him!
Obaid is NUMBER 1! seriously this is the BEST math professor at SJSU. Teaching style is crystal clear, he is hilarious, and extremely helpful during office hours. Obaid is so kind too, he cares about students and will do anything for them. Dont get me wrong the class isnt a walk in the park but if u do HW u should be fine. OBAID IS THE MAN!
Dr. Obaid is the BEST MATH PROFESSOR AT SJSU PERIOD. He is very kind and extremely helpful during office hours. I cannot stress enough how clear his lectures. He is also hilarious with his stories during lecture. This class is not a walk in the park you have to do HW and practice a lot. Great grading system too! OBAID IS THE BEST!
Professor Obaid is THE BEST TEACHER IN THE WORLD! I was hesitant to start Calculus because I did not take Pre-Calc and got in through the placement test, however, Prof. Obaid made so much fun and interesting. Loved coming to class, hes hilarious. The class is not for ppl who don't want to do the work, but if you want to learn, he is your guy!
Very approachable, helpful, and accommodating instructor! One of the best math instructors who teaches the material for the class - not going after stuff unrelevant for the class. Office hours are good. Really helps to understand a very hard class. Many quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final. Allows a formula sheet that he has composed.
Took him for Math 31, although this class is way more difficult than any math class I've taken, I would still highly recommend Dr. Obaid. Great Lecturer and does his best to have his students succeed. Always willing to help as well and clarify any questions you have. Take Him if you want to learn math you won't regret it.
Great teacher. He knows his stuff and knows how to teach. His accent sometimes makes it hard to understand him, but you can still learn. Nightly homework are optional to do. Yes, he has a list of homework pages that are optional to do. Study! Do not slack off just because there's no homework! Everything on the exam, he goes through in class.
This professor is great! I had a hard time in Math 31 but he made Math 32 class so simple and easy. He actually cares about his students and he goes over anything you need help with in class and office hours. There is no homework collected but quizzes and exams are basically just homework and class notes. I highly recommend this professor!
Greatest teacher ever! He will make you love math. He is very nice and helpful during his office hours. His exams are straight forward; do the hw and you'll get an A!
Best math professor at SJSU! Just go to class and do the homework and you can get an A! He's so helpful and enthusiastic about math. TAKE HIM!
For MATH 030, he is a hard teacher. Your entire grade consists of four quizzes and three exams. The quizzes barely make any difference and the exams are extremely hard. And I'm good at math. He is really funny and cute, but he seemed to expect us all to know calculus, trig and geometry extremely well before attending the class.
Very helpful and a very nice guy. Wants students to be interested in the class and tries to make it as fun as possible. Sweet old guy BUT his midterms and finals are HARD. 4 quizzes are VERY easy but he gets you on the exams. you need to do the homework he assigns even though it is not graded or collected. If you want an easy class do not take him
BrObaid thats all I got to say. This guy is legit! (:
Had him for both 32 & 133A.He's very clear in lectures, patient, and really acknowledges student effort.Funny guy too.Only peeves are the 2nd half of 133A relies on his particular methods and the tests can have tricky questions.Best you do notes+optional hw;office hrs are big help. There's huge opportunity to do well.Circumstances are more than fair.
Attend class and understand the concepts! Tests are based on his lectures. Attend his office hours to go over homework problems (non mandatory by the way) because those problems would most likely be on the test. He's very kind to his students and he's also super passionate about calculus. His lectures are sort of slow, but it helps!
Great teacher. He will try his best to make sure all his students can pass. He would look in the test for the work and if its right, he'll give you the points even if you got the problem wrong. Doing the homework really helps, and seeing him in his office hours is a great benefit too. Great math teacher, I strongly recommend
Best math professor ever. That is all.
Amazing teacher. Gives good notes. Quizzes/tests are pretty easy if you pay attention. Homework is assigned but not collected. He takes questions from the homework.
Best professor at SJSU, if you take anyone but him you will regret it. Study hard and pay attention and you will be fine
Brobaid is the chillest math professor you could hope for. He has such a calm and clear approach that makes even calculus understandable. I would say he is the best math professor I have ever had and would highly recommend!
Generous exam and quiz grader, but he expects you to self-study a lot. So if you are not used to that, you will not do well. He only gives 4 quizzes during the semester so you won't really have an incentive to study until the exam day is approaching. If you self-study well, then might get an A, but many people struggle despite his generous grading
He is an easy grader but don't take advantage of that. You definitely need to study for his exams. No cheat sheets on midterms, only for the final cos it cumulative. Overall, a good teacher. Lectures can sometimes be hard to understand him (he has an accent) but he'll go over a problem if you ask. I'd recommend him.
His lectures and homework covers everything that will be on exams. His lectures are helpful and helps students conceptually understand what is going on in a problem. His exams are easy to pass, but getting above an average grade on an exam is hard because there are only a few questions. If you miss one question, your already down a letter grade.
He is one of the best math professors in SJSU.
An extremely professional math teacher at SJSU
Professor Obaid was a very clear, organized, and thorough lecturer. I learned nothing in Calc I and was worried about Calc II. Obaid was able to make Calc II easy and do-able. I attended the lectures and didn't have to spend much time to review for the exams, but scored above average. He is a very very lenient grader, gives points on attempts.
He is okay. In order to do well in his courses, you have to take good notes. All his quizzes and exams will be be on the notes. He does not follow the book. If you follow the book, then you are wasting study hours on useless things.
engages the students and makes them laugh quizes are easy but mid term and finally got to put some work in writing something down will get you so credit provided its not complete rubbish made the class interesting def take this prof makes complex simple!
Great teacher. Very nice, lectures clearly and takes time to answer students questions. HW not mandatory. 4 quizzes all very easy. 3 exams, fairly simple if you do the HW. 1 final which was similar to the exams, just a bit harder. Does not want students to fail so he will help you if you are on the border. Grades very leniently on exams for effort.
He is a great Math professor! He is my favorite by far. His tests are almost questions straight out of the homework. The quizzes are easy as long as you go to class. He is open and willing to help everyone after class or in office hours. He is great at giving partial credit on everything. I highly recommend his class!
Great teacher, he truly cares whether you learn. Took him for Business Calculus. Grade consisted of 3 exams(28% each) and 3 quizzes (16%). Homework is optional but you have to do it to understand the material. Show up to every class, ask for help when you need it, go to office hours. Very generous curve.
This was one of the toughest courses I have ever taken but he made the experience much easier. If you show up and put in the work, he will genuinely try to help you pass. He could be a stand up comedian and he lectures very well. He is very accessible. You have to earn your grade. Once I passed I felt like Westbrook after a mean dunk. Recommended.
Professor Obaid is an excellent professor. He takes his time to explain math concepts and never rushes. Very helpful during office hours. He loves to make funny jokes, too. There are 3 quizzes (lowest is dropped), 2 exams, and the final. Homework is optional and comes from the textbook (no online homework, a blessing). Highly recommend.
This is one of good Math Professor. His speech is very clear and lecture is not that difficult if you Do Not missing any class. Do he say (homework and go to office hour). My Math was very bad in high school. But in this class, I try my best and follow his instructions. I think you can get very good grade. He is very nice and funny.
A great person but not a good teacher. Don't miss any classes. He will try to help you pass however that doesn't make up for the fact that you will not understand anything if you are not good at math already. His teaching style moves quickly and doesn't wait for people to understand. 2-3 sections per class
Put the effort in this class, this means completing all the hws and understanding those concepts. Do not skip any classes, listening and paying attention to his lectures are so important that I didn't trust any of my classmates to pass on notes to me. Even if you dont get the problem correct on exams, he truly cares about your process!
Nice/informative prof. Optional HW that is good review for exams. Quiz/MatLab assignments were simple. B/c we went online, exams were much longer & harder & required lots of complex calculations/proofs that took up time. He is little hard of hearing so speak up & talk slowly. In office hours, might not always get the answer you were looking for.
Homework is optional and ungraded. Ever since it became online, he canceled the 2nd exam and so both the 1st exam and the final were vital to your grade. He tries to explain the concepts and does his best to help those in need especially office hours. Exams were hard since they were open-book and you need to spend more time solving the problem.
Samih Obaid is a very straightforward professor. The material that he covers in lectures is everything that you need to know for his exams in order to pass. Obaid's online exams contained problems that required a bit more ingenuity and also trivial ones if you knew the content. Overall, the problems were balanced very well. Great class.
He is a good professor, though I did struggle with the material some. But that's mostly because complex variable is LOTS of integration methods, calc 2,3 and diff eq which I already forgot about and had to review. Also, not necessary but I think I should have taken proof heavy classes like linear algebra 2 or abstract before this class.
He let a student tell jokes in class. One day he got yelled at by a student name Geno for telling jokes
