Do not take this prof!! Take a summer class if necessary. Avoid at all costs!!
Makes a relatively easy subject very difficult.
Had him in 1986. Some things never change!
DO NOT take this class. There is impossible amounts of work.
extremely difficult, he graduated from harvard, expects that from you also
Avoid if you can, a lot of work and very unclear with assignments
Amount of work required is not worth the credits recieved. avoid instructor!
The meanest man I ever met from Harvard, a shame for Harvard! Poor teaching!
Are you kidding me? I honestly believe this man is Satan.
Avoid him at all costs! very intimidating. I had nightmares about the class.
Tough & Best. If you can't handle this course, you don't deserve an MBA.
The toughest class I've taken, but the most rewarding. Not a cakewalk.

Stay on his good side and you'll do fine. Difficult but not impossible.
Tough course, hard work is rewarded. Have to EARN your grade!

belittles intelligence
Difficult class and lots of assignment, but it's worth it.
tough old geeser!
if this is only class your taking.. then good luck.. otherwise AVOID proff !!
Doesn't leave much room for other classes. He's on a power trip!
Alot of work-Does not Teach-Anybody w/a 2yr degree can do what he dose!
He is the best professor that I have ever had.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!!

15hrs/wk work- you learn a lot from the sheer volume, but he's arrogant and RUDE
Tons of work. Go to his office, make him feel impt. MEAN!! But lightens up.
Insults people's intelligence, very arrogant, tests were impossible. AVOID ISHAK
Hang in there b/c he grades easy at the end.
This is a REAL MBA class. Not the typicial blow-off, go-through-the-motions cls.
Lots of work, not always beneficial, his students underperform in other classes
Intimidating. If you can survive, will learn lots. Agree: rude and mean...
hard but grades on a curve
Hard class. Typically tests on things you can list. Need tolerance to last.
If your not from HARVARD your nothing!!! Arrogant, rude, and full of himself. Tests are a nightmare ( A paper not possible )
WORST prof ever-do not take if your life depends on it-i dont know what these ppl r talking about-he is not a good teacher-arrogant, hard garder and MEAN MEAN
Tests are impossible essays that are graded unfairly. Made me fell dumb.
Awful. He'llmeet with you outside of class to "offer help" but really its just so he can tell you in private how stupid you are, but he has no problems telling you that in class either. Drive to Holland and take this class with Wolterink. Trus
Samir is great - get to know him outside of class. Yes, he's intimidating with his bluntness, but take it with a grain of salt and you'll be fine. He just wants to get the best from you! I learned a lot in this class!
Horrible teacher. Gets off on ridiculing his students. Grades unfairly. Is the worst professor I have ever had. Very rude, and does nothing to help students prepare for his exams. Would not take his class again if my life depended on it.

Terrible. He won't answer your questions and seems to enjoy making people feel stupid. The class is pointless and the essay exams impossible.
Ishak loves to make his students feel stupid and inferior. Provides no direction for learning. Does not teach what he tests on. His exams are outrages and impossible to receive a decent grade.
Worst teacher ever. Exams are impossible. Lectures are boring and non-important. Gives no direction as to what to study for exams.
He is the most unorganized professor ever!! Sylabus...what's that, never used it, never followed it. Thank god he is leaving for Europe in December so next semester's students won't have to deal with his crap. I would recommend dropping him if possible.
Class has no direction. Is arrogant, egotistical ----! Have learned nothing, have to teach yourself. Expects you to memorize verbatim 20 chapters in 14 weeks, by yourself. Does no in class teaching. Should not be a professor, rather a prison warden.
Everyone else has described him and his class quite well, so my words of advice: DON'T DO IT!(it really is a self study, memorization class)
He is a good professor, but very tough. He is helpful if you take advantage of his office hours. Stick out the class, because he rewards those people at the end. Exams are tough, but do the outlines for each chapter and you'll be okay.
Rude and arrogant. Expects you to learn the material on your own. He spent about two hours lecturing over the course of the entire semester. View his class as a test of how well you can get along with people.
worst professor ever-arrogant, unwilling to listen, very unhelpful, should stop teaching-thinks his twisted opinion is a fact_AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Very knowledgable professor. As demanding as grad course should be. He is friendly, you just have to earn his respect. Not good for slackers.
Disorganized and arrogant. Interesting anecdotes. Extremely effective at creating a sense of community among the surviving students. Learned a lot. Heavy workload. No regrets in completing this course. Significant experience with subject matter.
Very demanding, but fair and he teaches you a lot. I would recommend it to those who want to get the skills needed to be successful.
He is really tough but so interessant and open-minded. He teaches how to be more critical about what we can learn from the media and that's essential!!

My advice- don't take his class because if you do you WILL be teaching yourself the WHOLE class. He doesn't really listen to you when you speak. His class was the worst class ever....really EVER!
Arrogant, disorganized, lazy, and personally offensive. Assigns a lot of work with no follow-up or theme. Obviously has been teaching the same material for a long time and just wings it now. Re-hashes old transparencies from teh 80's.
He is very rude to students and is not very helpful when you ask him questions referring to the class. My advice to you is if you have to take MGT #339 please choose another professor.
Upfront about the demands that will be placed upon you. Ask questions, see him during office hours, do the work and keep up on the reading. Red book is rarely talked about. Learned alot. Don't be let down after the first test, it gets easier.
HARVARD CLASS!!! You must be very ready to commit yourself. Don't think you will get by with minimal effort, he expects hard, dedicated students wanting to learn. Hard, but well worth the time...
DO NOT TAKE W/ HIM! He does not cover material, does not listen to students, and does not care if you ask questions. This is by far the worst prof. I have encountered at GVSU. Why he still has a job I will never know!?!?
Toughest Class I have ever taken. Prof thinks it's your only class/job. Easily spend 10 hours per week outside of class on readings and assignments. Tests are based on the book which never gets covered in the class
The class requires effort, organization, and preparation. It's a graduate-level class. Dr. IsHak will challenge you, but is very willing to meet with students outside of class. If you want to learn and be challenged, take the class.
Not for slackers - any good student will enjoy his class; fakers will be humiliated. It's a lot of work, but worth it. Bring your testosterone, and be ready to logically argue your opinion. Best prof. at GVSU.
For the love of god, make sure you follow his instructions and read everything! He's very anal and can be a bit of a a-hole, but it's not all bad. Lectures and Discussion are among the best and most interesting i've ever had. Get on his good side though. Also, stick with him, it gets easier.
It is the course that requires a lot, not necessarily the professor. You have to make plenty of time to study! I do not recommend the summer course because the requirements are the same only with less time. However, I highly recommend this professor. It's a challenge, but it is honest. You get what you put into it. NOT FOR SLACKERS!
If you are looking to coast through a class without much work, this is not for you. If you don't mind keeping up with reading, this is an excellent class.
The most useless class I have taken at GVSU. Prof lords over the class: unreasonable expectations, impossible exams, generally an opinionated horse's ass. I carry a 3.72 and struggled in this "elective" MGT class. I am not impressed w/ prof, textbook (HORRIBLE), or experience in general. Asked what we learned today... couldn't think of a thing.
You want to learn something and be challenged in a class..this is the guy for you. Unclear on paper expectations..so ask! My hardest class that I've taken and it's my theme elective. He has 7 degrees...he knows what he is talking about. I learned about the subject and about my personal drive to succeed. I worked by butt off. Got an A
Best professor I've ever had. If the assignments seem unclear, just go talk to him. Besides, he appreciates students coming to his office hours, it will reflect in your grading. In response to people saying its impossible, thats not true. I barely have a 3.0 but I pulled an A in his class...it just takes EFFORT
I want to hunt him for sport. I hate him more than that little plastic thing that seals CDs in so it takes an hour to ge to them and then sticks to your hand and clings to your clothes. This guy is arogance fuled by ego. GVSU tried to can him and failed. Try again! Just because someone has 7 degrees doesn't mean they know how to TEACH!
If you can say his name, you'll get an A. Best teacher i have did have. Real cute...i mean HOTTIE with a BODY. girls...eat him right up!!
HORRIBLE CLASS!! Do not take with professor unless absolutely NO choice.
The most horrible teacher/professor I have had ever... He does not teach. Has he even read the book? He explains things incorrectly, not tomention his **** comments and ****ed jokes. Unless this is the only class you are taking and have no other life, avoid him. Work load way too much considering you have to teach yourself...
If you have a death wish...take him. The most stressful prof ever! He doesn't listen to his students, encourages participation then cuts them off while their speaking. Do yourself a favor and spare the agony.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE... there's nothing left to say... just horrible. Work load high very high stuff... he belittles you and tears you apart when you meet with him alone.. horrible...DON"T TAKE HIM!!!
This guy is a terrible professor. He is trying to teach correct business ethics, and doesn't even perform them in the classroom. He interrupts you, and demoralizes you. And his freaking tests are so long that you need to rush to finsih in the time frame. Plus he makes up assignments as you go along that have nothing to do with the class.
not a single lie on this page, from student to student i'm telling you to avoid him!! if you have to wait a semester, wait!
This guy is terrible. I didnt pay attention to the comments because I have a 3.5 and think I can deal with each professor I have. I am going to finish with a C+ doing the most work i have ever done in a class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best class/best prof I have ever had. He is so challenging and actually makes you think rather than memorize garbage like most business profs. Extremely intelligent, amazing stories & experiences. He humiliates dumb kids who are not articulate, cannot enunciate or form a proper question. It is great! DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT AN EASY A.
The hardest class I have had yet. TONS of busy work, and he doesn't even go over the chapters in class, though you have to memorize the entire 19 chapter text book. He talks about good managing, but doesn't show it with his actions. BUT - you will learn something. He is nice and likes you if you sit in the front row!
He is proud of his fast feedback, if only it was legible. He interrupts, he's rude and likes to dis accounting students. I'm glad he's on sabaticle next year. None of what he goes over in class is relevant to the book. If you are a very independant person WHO HAS AN OPINION, don't take this class.
hardest class ever and he never liked to help.
I don't even know what to say. The class is by far the hardest ever, objectives are not very clearly outlined. He does have them in the syllabus, but operates under a different set. Information covered on tests is found in the book, but the answers he wants are not. I spoke with him before taking our second test, and still did poorly. AVOID!!
If you memorize the entire book, sit in the front of the class and try to answer his questions, you may pass the class. The test are on the book material, but he covers NONE of it in class. Avoid At All Costs!!!
You might look at these comments and think "I'll just tough it out". I did the same thing. I couldn't regret it more. Even if it means staying in school for an extra semester just to take someone else, DO IT. Ishak has to be among the worst professors in all of America.
This class is not that terrible. Prof Ishak is a very funny guy, who has lots of valuable business work experience. The test are straight out of the book, and if you study you should be able to get a B. The first few weeks are intimidating, but he gets alot better and is helpful if you ask.
He spent the entire class complaining about GVSU and the other insturctors. Very Negative and not nice. AVOID at ALL COSTS. I am taking this class again with someone else. Run Away, and fast!!!
IsHak is by far the best professor I have ever had. He grades very hard, and his classes are difficult, but he holds a WEALTH of knowledge. He has a passion for what he does and is the BEST professor at GVSU. Anyone is lucky to have him as a professor, you will learn so much! If you want your grade to be higher go meet with him during office hours!
By far one of the worst teachers you will ever have. Does not teach but rather forces you to read the book and expects MEMORIZATION for tests/quizes. Only questions during classtime and if none are asked then a quiz is automatic as he believes you've mastered the material already. He is tenured thus unable to be fired. Class is a joke.
the best and most intellectual ever. I am graduating this smester. He is the professor I learned from the most. Demanding, but fair.
DO NOT take this class! AVOID IT! The prof is soooo demanding. You won't learn from him but from the book. He NEVER covers the info on book. His tests are sooooooooooo HARD. Don't take him. Stay away from his class!!!
Do not take him unless you want to read an entire textbook and memorize it for every exam.(6 of them) Lectures are pointless even though he claims they are SO important. He says he will make sure you get your "money worth" of the class about 100 times during the semester. what a joke. very intelligent but doesn't "manage" his class well.
The best professor ever at the universtiy. Super knowledge and experience. very demanding and fair. Do not take if not serious to learn. World traveller and brings the world to yu in a classroom. Considerate of his students' needs and accomodate special circumstnces Cannot tolerate idiots.
I HAVE JUST FINISHED THE COURSE.I was scared at the beginning. After first three weeks I felt comfortable. Yes I had to work my tail off more than any other course in GVSU. But very worthy and best I have taken so far. He has his reputation as demanding. The first meeting he tells you what is expected in a contractual way.Very fair, helping, super.
jUST FINISHED PREPARING for final last before graduating. I wish I had Pro.ISHAK for more courses. The one prof. I shall remember for his caring and really educating me to think and apply. Serious, demanding, charming but fair.
The most demanding Prof I've ever had. Be prepared to teach yourself from the book as he does not cover anything unless you specifically ask him to. Worked so hard but the grade will not reflect that. The tests are impossible. Avoid this class and this prof.
Professor Ishak made me think and work more than any other prof but I learned most from him.helpful, available, friendly, funny, demanding, fair, pushes you to earn your grade. I am lucky to had him before graduating.
I read teh past comments. Very unfair to p[rof. He is very helpful to those who are serious and willing to learn. Such a student must not take this course. I bet I know who wrote it..This student was he was abnoxious, rude, and cheating. I wish we have more like Professor Ishak to learn from.
This professor is the most challenging professor I have ever had. He got me into grad school, has an amazing network, has 5 masters and two degrees from Harvard. If you are serious about your education, he is the guy to go to. Anyone who says he is a bad prof either didnt care enough or didnt try enough.
I've taken both 331 and 466 from Dr. IsHak and received an "A" in each class. It can be done, but only by reading the text thoroughly and writing quality, detailed papers. He has so much to teach those who are willing to learn from his vast career and educational experience. Con: confusing communication about assignments at times, so ask questions
Worst professor I've ever had at GVSU. He's ****, admittedly dislikes other faculty members and speaks poorly of Grand Valley?s programs in general. Only students with no mind of their own would give this guy a smiley face rating.
This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He was asking for an incredible amount of work for what should have been a fairly simple class. I can't say I didn't learn anything but another prof would save you some sleepless nights and headaches
Worst prof EVER! Just ridiculous! Demanding, hard to understand, confusing, argumentative, incredibly rude, not helpful, doesn't care about his students' success at all! You have to memorize the book to pass the 6 tests cuz he doesn't teach a thing! The class should be easy cuz the material is easy, but he makes it sooo difficult. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
Avoid! Very demanding, rude, and makes you feel worthless. Class is a waste of time, and he does not teach a single thing. Memorize every word in the book for the tests. Assignments take forever to complete, but are barely worth any points. Take with another professor, it will save you a lot of stress.
This class was way too much work! Assignments are lengthy and must be exactly the way he wants them. I read the whole book front to back and had six exams throughout the semester. I would never take a class with him as a professor again.
Assigns over 40 papers-not even a SWS class-that are worth maybe 2 points each. Doesn't teach anything and expects students to read and memorize the entire book
I just started Grad School and was thinking about Prof.Ishak. He was my toughest professor at GVSU but the only one who accurately prepared me for the workforce, and graduate school. I have no doubt that he is part of the reason I have excelled in my career thus far. He will help you-if you are willing to work hard to help yourself.
Walked away with a B. I didn't do a single assignment. I did well on the 6 tests, and made sure to participate in class. I wouldn't recommend this professor to my worst enemy. The tests were unbelievably difficult, and quizzes were graded (in my opinion) far too strictly.
I honestly believe that the comments that refer to Prof Ishak as the "best teacher ever" must be written by Ishak himself. He is arrogant, rude, demeaning, & many other things that an effective teacher is not. His expectations are inconsistent & unrealistic. The material is not difficult, but the workload is unbelievable. Take it with someone else.
Absolutely terrible and blatantly favors international students.
If you want an easy A, this is definitely not your class. If you're looking for a challenge, take his class. I walked away with an A from his class. I am so honored to have had such a ridiculously successful man as a professor. His assignments are deadly. But if you're willing to do the work, it will definitely be worth your time.
Need to put 200% effort. At least 15-20 hrs in the weekend and 2-3 hours in the week.Very demanding and will keep challenging the entire semester. Be prepared in every class if you don't want to be embarrassed in the class. He helps immensely with the class matter but not the personal issues in dealing with the class. Buckle up for a roller coaster.
In his class right now.... One of the worst professors I've ever had in my entire education experience. He is a mean old man and puts you on the spot. Makes everyone in the back row move to the very front row. Assignments are like getting a bullet in the foot... You've just been shot & are bleeding but unfortunately, still alive. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
This professor is just amazing. Lots of people don't like this classe because it is exigent. But it is not superficial and you learn a lot of thing. I highly recommend this professor, but be prepared for this class!
Very hard prof, this class was a monster however i stuck it out and found it to be very rewarding. you learn a lot! lots of reading and memorizing chapters for exams but once you figure it out its not so bad. The prof and his assignments were very demanding. Theres no b.s. in the class, and it was very challenging but im glad i took it
Taking his class right now. worst professor at GVSU so far. His assignments take 5 hours to complete but only worth 6 points. he is rude demanding arrogant and obnoxious. he will not listen to anything and if you ask a question you wont get a straight answer. avoid at all cost.
Professor is extremely arrogant and rude to all students. Comes off very pretentious and talks down to students. Also has made inappropriate statements during lectures. All being said, if you stick it out and get all the assignments up and stay up on the material, you will learn a lot and the class will be rewarding.
If you know how to read a textbook and study, you can pass Ishak's class. Assignments and papers are easy enough if you put the time in. But here's a bit of advice: RUN FAR AND RUN FAST. Do not take this professor. He is one of the most awful people I've ever met, let alone the worst professor.
A nice guy, but a TERRIBLE professor. Assigns more assignments than I can count, and tests are EXTREMELY long. Grading criteria is hard to get used to and very specific, but not terrible. He expects almost memorization of the chapter, and his workload is unbelievably high. He does not 'lecture' on material, only answers questions. Do not take him.
Sammy is a prime example of how it's better to be feared than to be loved. At the start of the semester, he clearly laid out his expectations and grade requirements (which were very high), but he was not unfair or unwilling to talk one on one. You were required to participate in class and read a chapter every week. Very hard, but I learned a lot.
