Professor Samir Raouafi was by far the best math professor I have ever had. He wanted all of us to succeed and offered us many tools to learn the material. His office hours were productive and always he encouraged us to come to him. Highly recommend taking his class!!
He is a great teacher and always make sure everyone understand.
WONDERFUL teacher and that really wants you to understand the material. Always available for office hours. Come to class, do the homework, actually try to do the quizzes without notes / online calculator and you will do well. He tends to favor students that come everyday and sit in the front row and usually works with them the most in class.
Great professor! He does a good job explaining the material and is helpful during office hours as well. There is homework but it's not for a grade. I'd recommend doing it and the additional practice problems he posts on canvas. Tests are challenging but not impossible. He takes attendance every class so I'd recommend actually going.
One of the best math teachers I have ever had! He genuinely cares about his students understanding the material and is very accessible outside of the class. If you are taking business calculus take Samir Raouafi!!
very very hard to understand because he does not speak good english. The first two tests are not so bad but then they get a lot worse. He doesnt make the final exam so if you take him you are honestly screwed.
Great Prof. Highly recommended!
Great professor. Highly recommend. Adds 2% to overall grade if you have good attendance and drops lowest test score!!
He is so sweet and really cares about his students. He tries so hard to make sure everyone understands what he is teaching. Test difficulty is very fair. He gives extra credit for attendance but it is not mandatory and also drops your lowest test score. He can be hard to understand at first but once you get used to the way he teaches it's not bad.
He is the best! The material is difficult but he explains it very well and gives lots of examples. Go to class because, even though it isn't mandatory, he takes attendance for bonus points later on. His accent is not bad, ignore the comment that said it was. Just pay close attention. Tests are fair, online quizzes are helpful. I would take again!
probably my favorite professor at auburn!! he explains the material really well and always makes sure everyone is understanding as he goes along. his accent is really not hard at all to understand if you're actually paying attention. the homework problems are also really helpful but not mandatory. strongly recommend
Great professor who does the best he can to help students succeed. Attendance isnt mandatory but you should go to class if you want to do well. The hardest part of this class is the final exam which is department-wide, but his tests during the semester are not too difficult if you just study a decent amount.
I loved having Samir! He is such a sweet professor and wants to make sure everyone understands before moving on. Attendance isn't mandatory, but super helpful. Dropped lowest test score and added 2% to grade if you had 90%+ attendance. I had to work for my grade, but he was always accessible to help in office hours!
Was a great and helpful professor. Would extremely recommend, especially if Math isn't your strongest subject. Gives plenty of help outside of class. His lectures help a lot.
You have to work for it in this class, but you can get an A. Professor Samir is not the greatest at teaching, but he does care about his students. I took time outside of class to work through problems and really understand them. Made an A on 3 tests and a 60 on one. Two quizzes a week that help your grade, and he drops your lowest test. GO TO CLASS
I love Mr Raouafi! He cares so much that you learn in this class and makes sure that everyone is understanding the material. One of the kindest professors Ive had. He gives a lot of extra points and study guides for each test. Always available for office hours and is willing to help move homework due dates around to make sure no one forgets them.
He was a great prof, his accent is a little hard to understand, but he is very good at explaining the material. The online homework is very helpful, it can even walk you through a problem step by step. I always know exactly what to expect on each exam because he takes the time to prepare a practice test and go over it with his students!!
He goes through the material thoroughly and allows time to work out the problem before explaining it. His practice tests are very similar to the tests so they prepare you well, no surprises. Attendance isn't required necessarily, but very, very helpful.
By far the worst learning experience I have ever had. I did not understand a single lesson even having taken calculus in high school and done fairly well. His test were extremely difficult given what I could work with and the pretests were useless for study practice. I cannot say how good of a teacher he is in person but through zoom he is bad
Had 1 assignment a week over what we learned that week, which can be difficult and confusing, also had 3 exams and a final. If you show up to class 90% of the time throughout the semester he will give a 2 point boost to your overall grade. Will replace the lowest exam grade with the final grade, if it's better. Also drops 2 lowest assignment grades
This has been the best math teacher I've ever had! So kind, truly wants every student to succeed. Dr. Raouafi also makes review guides for each exam that are so helpful! Definitely recommend!!
He is a great choice for a stats professor at auburn. There were three tests, and if you understand the lectures and do the practice tests you'll do good on them. The lectures are kind of boring sometimes, but if you go to 90% of them he will round up your grade 2% if you need it. Definitely would recommend him!
Dr. Raouafi is a great teacher, and really cares about his students. Tests were usually similar to study guides, although not super easy. Math/concepts are generally easy, especially for STEM majors. He was always willing to answer questions. Lectures could be a little boring, but not bad. Homework was hardest part of the class
Dr. Samir is a kind man. He wants every student to understand and takes the time to answer all questions, in class and during office hours. The practice tests were very similar to the tests, and the homework was a lot but good practice. The lectures can get boring, but do your homework, go to class, ask questions, don't cram, and you will do well.
Professor was very helpful outside of class. Practice tests were similar to0 tests so students knew what to expect. Always provided ample amount of time for asking questions.
He is the best prof I've had at AU. A really kind man and very helpful with questions. The material itself is usually easy and he really makes sure you are prepared for tests. You get three tries on the hw. Always gives study guides/practice tests. Take him!!!
Dr. Raouafi is truly a kind and understanding person. His lectures may be a little long, however he gives plenty of examples to work with. He does have weekly homework, however, you get 3 tries on it. His practice tests are really helpful, and with a basic amount of effort it is possible to get an A without a doubt.
He is the nicest prof ever. Very easy to follow and overall easy class. 3 tests are 60% of your grade, homework is 10%, final is 30%. Definitely recommend.
Samir is one of the best professors I've had at Auburn. He can be a little hard to understand at first, but I have learned so much from him. Having taken stats in high school, this class is mostly review but he explains the material so well. TAKE. HIM!!!!!!
Willing to spend time after class to better explain material. Practice problems are very similar to the exams. Solid choice for calc 1
He has overall been a great Cal1 professor. He doesnt take attendance in his main lecture but in recitation the other teachers do. There are 4 tests and a final. He drops your lowest test grade. There are 5 or 6 quizzes and homework that also help your grade. He will do everything he can to help you succeed, especially if you meet w him!
I took AP calc in high school so i already knew all we did, but even if i didnt he teaches very clearly and always answers questions well. he will go over things multiple times to make sure everyone gets it. he dropped 3 lowest hw, 1 quiz, and 1 exam! very understandable and helpful. couldnt fully understand him at first but u get use to it.
Very good professor and cares a ton but watch out for his accent. It may be confusing at first but you get used to it
Dr. Raouafi is a really kind guy and wants his students to succeed. I have nothing bad to say about him or his class.
Samir is great! You get three attempts on each homework and the practice tests are super helpful when preparing for the real tests. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed! Would totally recommend him!
Very great teacher. He makes tough concepts pretty easy to understand and was always available to answer your questions in office hours or emails. I have never been good at math but I got an A in his class and never had much trouble. The tests are graded pretty easily and if you do the homework you will be fine.
This professor is genuinely very kind and I enjoyed his class more than any other this semester purely because of it. Some of the R assignments could get tricky, but it was never on the exams so it didn't matter all that much in the end. He gives an attendance bonus of a few grade points if you've been to 90% of classes. Definitely take him!
Samir is a super nice teacher. He breaks down difficult concepts and makes them pretty easy. He has an accent but you get used to it over time. He drops the lowest homework, quiz, and test grade. He gives study guides for every test that are very similar. He enjoys making jokes during lectures and is always open to questions. I definitely recommend
I would take him for every math if I could! He teaches great and cares for his students. He makes the four tests so they are straight forward. Take the time to learn through the homeworks & you'll pass. THE FINAL IS HARD BUT HE CURVES HEAVY! Quizzes here and there but you know weeks ahead of time. Take the recitation if possible.
Samir was a great professor. I was struggling during the middle of the semester and went to him after class, he went over all of my tests with me and made sure that I understood the things i did wrong. He truly does care for his students, and appreciates when you go to his office hours or meet with him after class.
Dr. Raouafi was a good teacher. The recitation class prepared you very well for tests. Homework was helpful for the tests too. I think to have the best grade, print your notes for each class and attend every recitation class. Attendance is taken in recitation but just to determine if they should round your grade at end of the semester.
His tests are straightforward; similar to study guide and the review sessions he has two days before tests. He is a very nice teacher and will help you. The homework is harder than the test, he drops 4 hw assignments, and a lowest test grade. go to class 90% of the time to get attendance bonus points at the end of the semester.
Best math teacher I have ever had. I did not understand calculus at all after taking AP calc in HS and having to drop a previous calc course, but Dr. Raouafi changed that. His accent is a little tough but not too difficult to understand. Really kind and caring guy, could not recommend him enough.
As someone who is not good at math at all, Dr. Raouafi is someone I would highly recommend to anyone who struggles with math. He does have an accent that is a little difficult to understand at first but after a while, it gets easier. Attendance is not required but is highly recommended. I would take all of my math classes with him if I could.
One of the best professors I have had the pleasure of meeting. He is hilarious in his own kind of way. I don't think I would pass this class with the grade I had with any other professor. If you can please take him. He does have an accent but after a week or 2 you will get used to it and start to enjoy it.
This has been the greatest professor I've ever had at Auburn University. Once you get can start to understand him through his accent (which happens day 2/3 of class) his lectures are brilliant and easy to follow. Genuinely the most caring man who really wants you to succeed and do well in this class. His office hours are very beneficial.
When I first started going to his class, I couldn't understand him. He has a heavy accent and speaks really fast. As the year went on though it was fine. He is a really good teacher and genuinely cares if you go to him with questions. I also recommend going to the SI sessions. They really helped. Attendance isn't mandatory but you get extra credit.
He made having calc online super easy! Had videos for every section and gave extra points to people who took the quizzes and exams at least 48 hours before they were due. While he is a great professor, only take his online class if you can hold yourself accountable and stay on top of the assignments. Also, I highly recommend going to SI sessions.
Dr. Raouafi replaced our original professor. Though he does have an accent, you get used to it fairly quickly. He made Calculus 2 feasible. He worked out numerous examples on the board, hosted review sessions, and was always willing to help. I could not recommend him enough, he was fantastic. He lowered the grade scale so an 86 or above was an A.
There isn't enough time in the day to give Samir the praise he so rightfully deserves. Samir is a true servant at heart and I couldn't recommend his class enough. There is a slight language barrier to work through but once you do you will come to know Samir as a sweet and tender teacher who wants nothing but success for his students.
This man is so nice. I love him. The homework is really good practice for the tests. The tests are easy. Attendance is not mandatory, but you should definitely go.
doesnt speak english and is a terrible instuctor
Good teacher, good explanations, hard class made easier by his teaching. Go to class and pay attention and you'll be ok
Samir is awesome, everyone loves him. The content is difficult but if you show up to class and actually pay attention you will be completely fine. He really cares about his students and though the material can be confusing overall he does a good job. The Webassign homework is annoying but the tests are relatively easy.
Hard to understand at first. I never could grasp Calculus until I took him. Great teacher and even better guy. It takes a little getting used to at the beginning. Easily the best math teacher ive ever had. Usually the homework is a lot harder than the tests.
graded on 4 exams plus a final. he is such a great and genuine guy and really wants his students to succeed. the textbook doesn't help much, and his accent may be hard to understand at first, but he just teaches calculus in a way that made me understand it for the first time.
He is a good teacher, you may have to get used to his accent at first but he is a fun guy, and his exams are very straightforward
He's legit
Love Samir as a person but he is very hard to understand at times. It doesn't help that the math is already very hard when you can't understand what he is saying.
As somebody who has always struggled with math, Samir truly helped me understand difficult concepts. He cares about every student and will help anyone who asks. He is a funny guy and the homework is harder than the exams. He will tell you what he wants to see and to work hard. I genuinely enjoy attending lectures. Samir Raouafi is the goat.
I love Samir. I took calculus in high school and very much struggled. Samirs homework is much harder than the tests are. With a little bit of work you will have an easy A. He is hilarious, and I looked forward to coming to Class each day. If you can, take Samir, you will not regret it.
He was awesome! Although this class was difficult, he made it enjoyable. One of my favorite classes.
Very hard class if you don't have a good math foundation from high school. he wants to help you though so go to him. 4 tests and lowest gets dropped. he really does care about you and he's always so happy. definitely take advantage of auburn peer tutoring for this class. I didn't find si sessions beneficial tho. homework is way harder than the test
busi calc is a hard class, but wow did i really enjoy samir. the first test, i got a 67, and i got help and then i got a 92, 93 and 95 on the last 3 tests. he drops the lowest test grade, which helped my grade a lot too. i loved samir so much, he is so kind and caring and really wants the best for his students. make sure you show up! def take him.
LOVE HIM SO MUCH! really cared about helping us understand and let us work together in class. was definitely a hard class but i really enjoyed it. he was really funny and super sweet!
He is the sweetest man ever and really cares about his students. We had 4 tests and a final, but go to class EVERY day because at the end he gives you a whole point to improve your final grade if you have a good attendance. He is very available if you need him and if you show him that you want to succeed in his class and work hard it will pay off!!
Yes, his class was hard, but that is expected when taking BCal. However, I think he tried to make it as easy as possible. He is so kind and you can tell that he cares about you and wants to help you if you just ask him. In this class, if you just "work hard" you will do fine. Pay attention, go to class, do the homework, and you will be fine.
Loved Samir! The class is very easy, but I took AP Calc in high school. Go to office hours with questions. A lot of people struggle in class because they don't put in the work or actually put in effort for the HW. Tests are easier than the HW which is nice. He does guide notes which is helpful. The accent isn't hard to understand at all.
Samir was nothing but amazing. His lectures are very thorough and you will succeed in this class if you show up and do your work. Samir is one of the best teachers I have had the honor of being taught by. Take his class. If I had any other teacher in this class, I probably would've failed.
Samir TRULY cares! He will help you every opportunity he gets and his character will make you laugh at least once every class! I took Calc in hs and this class was pretty easy. It is hard to understand his accent at first but you get used to it. He is too smart that he overcomplicated a lot of things but if you have background knowledge its easy.
Dr. Raouafi was a very good teacher. He took questions and made sure everyone understood. He does do random attendance quizzes and they pay off in the end. He gave people with less than five absences, five extra points on the final exam. If you took calculus in high school, I highly recommend this course because it is fresh on your mind.
By far my favorite professor during my time at AU. He made class enjoyable to go to and honestly made me want to go to class. Tests are not difficult, just have to study like any other class. Homework is harder than the tests. Gives plenty of partial if you deserve it and drops lowest test grade. 10/10 recommend.
If you have the chance to take Samir, definitely do. He is a great lecturer and posts the notes online. Attendance is not mandatory. Weekly homework and 4 tests. I was grateful to see that the homework is harder than the tests. He genuinely wants his students to understand and succeed. I didn't take calculus in HS but did great in his class.
Samir is a great Business Calculus professor. 4 tests that are very easy and a final. About two assignments per week due every Sunday, but tests are so much easier than the homework. He takes attendance every class for bonus. Samir genuinely wants his students to succeed.
Literally one of the best professors I've ever had. he is so genuine and so kind to everyone. I've taken calculus before, but he teaches it the easiest way possible making it much easier than others. attendance isn't mandatory but gives extra credit for going. tests are way easier than the HW and there are about 2 HW assignments due each Sunday
Really great guy. Does a great job explaining concepts and truly wants the best for his students. The material itself can be challenging but thats because its calc. He makes the tests totally fair and identical to the reviews he does in class. Webassigns are crazy hard sometimes but those questions are never on the tests. 10/10 professor.
Loved Calc 1 online! It was a good amount of work, but I was able to stay caught up. The tests were similar to the study guides, there were just very few questions (abt 14). Drops the lowest test score which was awesome and also gave bonus for taking exams and quizzes early. Not too difficult, but you will only get out of it what you put in:) Take!
Seriously such a good professor!! He can be difficult to understand at the beginning of the semester but gets easier to understand after the first few classes. You are graded on 4 tests+ a final and homework. Class is not mandatory but he does give possible extra credit for good attendance(go to class!). I highly recommend taking his class!!
I would not take him again. The class is already difficult but he made everything so much more confusing. I had to get friends that had taken it previously to teach me or try and teach myself. He is a really nice guy, but he is not good at teach stats at all. If you can avoid it, do not take him.
He wants to help! Go to his office hours!
Samir is a G. That is all.
If you can take Dr. R, DO IT! He is such a caring teacher and really wants his students so succeed in his course. His class is all lectures but he make sure you have all the information you need to do well in the class. He is also a fair grader and if the class does bad on an exam or their is a problem with the test, he gives them points back.
This man is SOOO nice. He has a pretty strong accent which made lectures a little difficult sometimes but he recognizes that and does his best to help you understand. He had ample extra credit opportunity and scaled tests, especially when the whole class did poorly. Overall, he's just a really great guy!
Samir is literally the best. He has a strong accent that takes a while to get used to, but he is really nice and cares about his students. The class itself can be difficult at times but if you study and work hard you will do well. He gives a ton of extra credit for showing up to class and curved our test when all of us did bad. Overall 10/10
The best statistics professor at Auburn! He is accessible outside of class and truly wants all of his students to succeed. There are four exams along with an online portion for each. He prepares us well for the exams. If you don't understand a concept, go to office hours because he explains topics clearly. Take him if you can!
I love samir
Dr. Raouafi is a really nice guy and you can tell that he cares about his students. He has a thick accent that is difficult to understand. The material is hard after the first test, but he has been helpful to scale tests and add extra credit.
Nice professor and very willing to help if you need it. He has a strong accent and sometimes can be very hard to understand, but will clarify if you need it. He posts everything you will cover that week on canvas, and will post all the notes done in class on canvas. Homework is hard, the tests on the other hand are very easy.
This professor is very caring and is willing to look over homework and exam problems that you got wrong to change your grade. The assignments are a lot harder than the exams but the 3rd exam is the worst one in the class. The class average for that exam was in the 60s for our class. He gives a lot of extra credit which helps balance out the grade.
Samir's class was very organized. He sent out lecture notes and reviews in advance, assigned two/three homework assignments a week, and tests covered the basics of what we learned. If you want to skip class, he provides ample resources to catch up. The homework assigned was always much more difficult than the tests. I loved him and this class.
Professor Raouafi was a great teacher to take for stats. His notes are very detailed and he post them on canvas. He truly wants his students to do well. He gives his students multiple resources to prepare for exams. He also gave extra credit for attending majority of his lectures. The final is just a 4th test, not cumulative test. Highly recommend!
Mr. Samir has to be one of the worst professors I have ever had in my time at Auburn. There is no curve for exams. I don't know where that rumor started. The "extra credit module" is on a "if you get all five questions correct" basis. He answers his own questions wrong in class and people are constantly correcting him. AVOID HIM!!
Raouafi is pretty hard to understand. He tends to change his mind about answers despite it being math that has a right or wrong answer. Overall tests aren't difficult but it's easy to get lost in his class. Assignments every week or so and an additional quiz on RStudio following every test.
He's a great professor and does a good job breaking down the notes he uploads before each unit. The only drawback was that the notes were confusing before he broke it down. The homework is significantly harder than the tests he gives though.
Samir is an awesome and funny dude. You have to go to class to do well but attendance is not required. His accent can be a bit hard to understand at first but you will get used to it easily. The tests are much easier than the homework. The most important class to go is the review sessions they are just like tests. Please take this prof if you can!
Eh he's alright, I do not retain one thing in lectures but the SI sessions are so worth going to. I can't understand him and don't like the way he does notes, however exams are pretty easy.
Dr. Raoufi is a decent prof, although his accent makes it hard to understand the lecture sometimes. Tests make up 80% of your final grade and the quizzes are graded without feedback on your code. There is up to a 5% final grade bonus for those who have 80% or above in attendance. Do the practice quizzes & READ/STUDY THE TEXTBOOK!!!
If you apply yourself, this class is easy. He offers lots of practice materials which are helpful for tests. Be sure to study well at the start because the first 2 tests are the easiest. I didn't pay attention and would study for about 2 days and got good test grades. You get 3 tries on HW and the online quizes only account for 5%. He is super nice
Show up to Class if you are looking to pass the class easily. He genuinely loves teaching and is always open to answering question to help every student pass the class with flying colors. The class itself isn't to difficult, his lectures are relatively easy to understand.
While Samir is so nice, he is really difficult to understand in his lectures. I found myself having to go regularly to peer tutoring, SI, and LAs just to do decent on the exams. Stats is not necessarily hard, but I struggled to grasp in the way he taught. Definitely one of my least favorite course I've taken at auburn.
He is the best professor ever. I had him for busi calc and I never was overwhelmed bc of how good he is at teaching the material. Take him!!!!
Best teacher I've had. Always has positive attitude and well respected. Very organized so easy to follow along in class. Gives you notes before class of what he'll cover. Lots of homework- nice bc boosts grade. Review problems are harder than tests. If you review tests are easy. Class not mandatory, but he boosts grade for good attendance if needed
Dr. Raouafi is an excellent professor. His accent can make him hard to understand, but if you pay attention it's pretty easy to follow along. Some of the homework is pretty hard, but you get multiple attempts on each question. The tests aren't too difficult if you study. I would highly recommend taking him.
We were given reviews which reflected the test very closely. Except on the final exam I could tell he did not make the questions and they were instead made by another professor. 1 quiz and homework dropped. Study for the bonus because it can make a big difference. He often makes things more difficult than needed so do your own studying to simplify.
seems like he knows what he's talking about but pretty hard to understand most of the time and over complicates simple topics and breezes over complicated ones.
If you need a Math1680 professor take professor Raouafi's class!
Due to significant circumstances I had to miss one of his exams. Emailed him BOTH beforehand and afterwards to see how I could make it up, and he said he wouldn't allow me to do so. I got a 0 on the exam and had to drop the class because he was unwilling to work with me.
Samir is so gas love Samir. Would recommend. I get so happy when I see him walk 2 minutes late into class like a boss. The system dosen't own Samir. He is the system. Then he comes in and cooks in Calc.
He's hard to understand and I don't really understand his lectures. I have to teach the material to myself a different time. However, he is a very cool guy and seems to like what he is doing. You can do well in this class but you have to put in the effort.
Samir is a great professor, take him for 1680 if you have the chance. Attendance is not mandatory although he does take it, it can help round up your grade at the end of the semester. I didnt go to class enough which reflected in my grade. The homework is hard but you have multiple attempts but if you understand the homework the tests are a breeze.
He's an awesome teacher, and he wants you to succeed. His notes are not hard to understand, and the study guides help prepare you for a test.
Samir is a super sweet professor if you get to know him. He is hard to understand and the lectures can be boring, but he really does care for his students. You need to go to class. The homework is hard, but you get 5 checks per problem. The tests aren't too hard if you do the homework and go to SI if needed.
Participation grades matter, so go to class. BUT his accent makes the course WAY harder than it's supposed to be. He uploads the notes on Canvas, BUT once again, his handwriting is VERY questionable :( He's a decent professor though. I personally wouldn't take him again.
Samir is a very knowledgable teacher, but his accent can sometimes make it difficult to understand and stay focused in class. He gives homework over every topic that is harder than the questions on the test. If you do all the work and practice problems in class, you will be prepared to do well in his class.
Samir is the goat. Absolute legend. Im pouring honey on you goat.
Has an accent that can sometimes be hard to understand, but his notes are very straightforward. If you are struggling he answers his emails fast, and is available for help in office hours. One of my favorite professors yet!
Accent is SO heavy you cannot understand at all. I would never recommend anyone to take this course. He may be a nice guy but that does not make up for the fact that you cannot understand a single word he says and cannot learn anything. Class is already hard so this makes it almost impossible to take.
I was hesitant to take him, but it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. Graded by in-class activities, homework modules, and 4 exams. Final is non-comprehensive. I didn't learn a lot in class because his lectures were not thorough and confusing. I had to teach myself a lot of the material. Be prepared to put in some work.
Please do NOT take him for stats 2510!!!! He barley speaks English and is a terrible professor. If you don't know how to do something he will laugh at you. Get ready to teach yourself everything if you have him. He expects you to know how to code in RStudio without teaching it.
Great teacher. Can be hard to understand at first but gets easier as the semester goes along. Does not rush through topics and makes sure everyone understands them.nWould highly recommend
Take Dr. Raouafi for Busi Calc! He truly is a caring and understanding professor. 15% of your grade is hw that you have multiple tries on, 60% is the avg of four exams (but he drops your lowest), and the remaining 25% is the final. He is very good at pacing the class and as long as you attend the review sessions before exams, you'll be golden.
Dr. Raouafi is a great professor. He has guided notes, practice exams, an easy extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester, and gives formula sheets during exams. He didn't make statistics harder than it has to be. He explained things in a way that didn't require me to teach myself much outside of class like other STEM courses.
Great professor, accent can be hard for the first week but you get used to it quick. Can go fast in class sometimes but is super accessible. Attendance isn't mandatory but taken & if it's good can earn you extra credit.
If you get good attendance 80% he will round and help out a lot. Rounded almost 3 points for a B. Great teacher and explains well. Tests are almost 100% easier than homework. Go to test review lectures they are almost identical to the test questions. Will drop lowest test grade and 2 lowest hw's.
Loved Samir. Clear teacher who used lots of examples. Takes time for questions if you'll ask. If you do all the homework then you'll be ready for the tests. If you put in a reasonable effort you'll get an A.
Professor Raouafi has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class can be manageable. The lectures are worth attending, and resources like the free textbook and study tools like Unstuck ai are super helpful for exam prep. Overall, a decent challenge if you stay on top of the work.
couldnt unserstand him at all he did was teach you the proofs for the formulas and not enough of actually applying it the problems. heard he's good is business calc but def not calc 1.
Dr. Samir is a good professor who prepares you for his exams and quizzes. He's a funny guy but lectures can get boring.
Exams are very easy. Samir might be difficult to understand if you sit at the back of the class, but I sat at the front so I could understand him fine. The content is weird but easy once you understand it. Love how many practice problems we did in class, and he went over every one in detail. Class went by fast, and usually ended early.
Great professor! He's a little hard to understand at first but he will answer all of you questions and help you after class and at office hours. If you pay attention in class, ask for help when you need it, and do the homework your grade will be fine.
Great guy, good at explaining and walking through problems. He does have an accent but it gets easy to understand the more you go to class. He moves a little fast sometimes but allows time for you to work problems and ask questions. You'll have homework due every Sunday night.
Pretty easy tests, lectures are mediocre, but is a very caring guy, will help with anything, the TA's are amazing, and advising is helpful. Overall great but would not take again, requires lots of work.
He cares so much for his students. He gives formula sheets on tests when most of the other professors don't. Just study the material until you understand (especially the formulas), and you'll do great. The only thing annoying was the homework and RStudio. He rounds up test 3 and has a 5-point bonus on the final. You should take him for Stats!!!
He's a great professor who does care. At times, his accent can be tough to understand, but if you talk to him, he's a great guy and really smart. Don't get behind on the homework, and practice some every day, everything you learn will be used on the next chapter for the most part.
I didn't mind him, I'm very much a "must do an example of every kind of problem" person because I'm not great at application so that's why I struggled. He's very knowledgable and a good person but the examples are tough and I'm not sure how to apply the information to them. The tests were a little easier than the examples and homework which helped
great professor. language barrier was not difficult for me to understand at all. if you go to class and do your homework you will probably get an A. the tests are not bad if you study and he drops your lowest test grade. he is very accessible and caring. he walks around during class to help any students who may need it. would take him again.
He is a nice guy and extremely approachable. Yet, the homework in this class takes forever to complete efficiently. His lectures are hard to sit through, and the programs used in the class are super confusing. The class is not impossible, but for me it was one of my least favorites. A big bonus assignment is given at the end of the semester.
He's a good guy, and he cares about his students. I spent a lot of time in his office hours, and he never once made me feel stupid. If I finish this class with an A, it's because of him. Take him!
Office hours are very good, It's important to attend the lecture otherwise you will be cooked. Tests are much easier than the homework and there are no tricky questions on the tests. Good teacher, prep well and you won't sink! Also might round your grade if your lecture & recitation attendance are good.
Good guy and a good professor. A little difficult to understand at first but it gets easy after the first week. Very accessible and wants you to succeed.
Good guy but he isn't the best teacher. He does have an accent but it's not hard to understand what he's saying. Does not respond to emails, at least not to any that I've sent him, I don't think he even looks at them. If you can, take a Tuesday and Thursday class with recitation, you'll learn a lot more in there than in the lecture.
He is the GOAT. He is a bit hard to understand but the TA's are very helpful and you'll eventually be able to catch on. Study enough and you'll be good. I slacked a lot and had a rough personal life outside of the semester and he passed me after an awful final from me. HE IS AMAZING I LOVE HIM
He is difficult to understand, but SI sessions are helpful. If you go to his office hours, he is very kind and helps in any way he can. He does questions randomly in class for attendance, and if you have a good attendance grade at the end of the year, then you will be offered extra credit.
Loved his class even though it was on my longest day. Always began his class with “How is everyone doing today, good, very good.” Honestly lightened my day lol. His accent can be hard to understand at times. Exams are hard but if you study well you'll do perfect.
Rounded my grade up by 2 whole points to an A just because I went class. Also make sure to go to his classes before tests as he does review sessions and works out example problems similar to the ones on the test. He has a slight accent though it never was an issue and overall was one of best professors I've had.
Samir is the best! If you did well in Calc in hs this class should be a breeze. He is hard to understand at times, but he is a very fair grader. He dropped my classes lowest exam as well as a few (2 maybe?) homeworks. Also, if you do well on the homeworks they are significantly harder than his exams, so you'll do great
He is very nice, but the accent is so difficult to understand. You need to show up for the extra credit offered at the end of the semester. It is a very hard class, but he does offer a lot of help. RStudio is awful but it is what it is. Tests are all 25 questions and multiple choice. Homework is very time consuming.
At first I was not pleased with Samir, but after taking him he is the best calculus professor at Auburn. He helps you out a lot at the end and is always there to help you. The make or break is recitation, but if that doesn't work please do tutoring that helped me a lot. You will need to work for your grade, college calculus isn't easy.
Samir speaks the most broken English you can imagine. On top of that he has a stutter. Exams count for 80% of your grade even though you have multiple homework assignments due every other day. Lectures are boring and impossible to follow due to his accent. Had to withdraw it was so bad.
Samir is a good professor who cares about his students and wants them to do well. He offers extra help outside of lectures and includes extra credit opportunities for students that participated during class. Overall the course has challenging concepts and Rstudio is a bit time consuming, but that just is what it is.
Has a bit of an accent but it isn't too hard to work with. The recitation sessions were very helpful and the study guide webassigns helped tremendously on tests. He curves quite a bit which helps. The homeworks aren't too bad but they are typically harder than the tests so keep that in mind.
For an online class, he was ok. Gave out extra credit for taking exams and quizzes early. He also replaces your lowest exam grade with the final if you do better on it. The only con is that he doesn't allow you to use a calculator for any of your exams. So if you're not great a mental math, don't take him it will hurt your grade.
You cannot understand a word he says. Do not take this class unless you want to have to withdraw like me.
Sweet guy, maybe not the best teacher. He overcomplicates things in class but if you go back over it after class you will be fine. His accent is strong but understandable. I don't think it is his fault that the class is a little tricky. If you took calc in high school you will be totally fine and if not a lot of my friends used tutors and were ok.
A super nice professor, but pretty difficult to understand. If I hadn't taken calculus before, I think that I would've really struggled in this class. If you pay attention in class and do the homework assignments/ review problems (which are generally much harder than the tests), you should be fine as long as you have some ability to teach yourself
He has an accent and a stutter so his English is broken and he can't say a proper sentence. Your grade is solely from tests because they weigh 80% of it even though you have multiple homework assignments a week. He gives practice tests that look nothing like the real exam and uses an excuse that students just need to "work harder" - don't recommend
Samir is a very nice guy. Very kind, wants the best for his students. He is always walking around the classroom trying to help people struggling. However, he is fairly hard to understand. For example, he saids "What does means this" instead of "what does this mean." He is very boring and the class is very test heavy, but he drops your lowest grade.
At first, I had a tough time understanding what he was saying, but as the semester went on, it got easier and easier to understand. MATH 1680 was definitely not easy, but at the end of the day, he's a great teacher and wants his students to succeed. The tests are a lot easier than the homework, and if you study, you can do well on them.
Dr. Raouafi is a nice man. The way he runs his class is abysmal. The exams are worth 80% of your grade, so even if you do well on all the minor assignments, you won't be able to recover your grade from a failed exam. His class moves very fast and it is hard to keep up, especially because his accent is quite thick. I wouldn't recommend taking him.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! SO much homework, but counts for nothing as exams are 80% of grade. Had to drop week of deadline it was so bad. No one I spoke to has over a C in the class. Nearly impossible to make a B/A. Lectures don't make any sense. Passive aggressive/undermining in office hours. If you're happy w/ a C/D in the class then sure take him.
Had to drop this class before the first exam, was afraid I wouldn't be able to pass it. After attending every lecture, doing all the homework, and going to SI sessions, I was still totally lost. Lectures were very hard to understand. Heavily emphasized group work on every in class problem, but I was secluded and had no one to work with. Never again
He is a very sweet guy, but this class is beyond difficult. I attended every class and still struggled. I went to office hours, SI, class and could not succeed in this class. He does however add 5 points to ur final grade if you have a high attendance which is very nice.
He grades only by exams but gives tons of time-consuming homework that barely count for anything in your grade and the assignments aren't even helpful for practicing. He can't speak English, isn't willing to give extra credit that's useful, and doesn't want to help his students. The worst part is his practice tests are nothing like the real exams.
Attendance not mandatory but every class has online questions that go towards participation grade that gets you extra credit at end of the semester. The sweetest professor and EXTREMELY clear with what he expects off of the lectures. Will miss this class
While I can rarely understand what he is saying, he isn't a bad teacher. As long as you study before every test and complete all the homework, you can do great in the course. There is also ALWAYS a SI Session for anyone confused. Even if you are not gifted in math, you can easily pass.
Hes a very caring professor who wants all his students to do well in his class. Being my first calc class, it was difficult but nothing you cant learn. I did poorly on the first test and then figured out how to study and apply myself then did great for the rest of the semester. Your grade is a reflection of the work put in. will miss his class!
The class is pretty challenging, but Samir does his best. He gives very informative lectures and is very helpful if you have any questions. Homework is harder than the tests and there is a lot of homework. If you can do the homework problems fine then you will do well on the test.
I'm just a freshman and a business major. I didn't think that this class would be so hard. I was in the library for hours on end, trying to do well in this class. He literally takes the hardest way possible to explain the easiest things.
Do not let these comments fool you, Samir is hard to learn from & would assume you knew how to do half of the problems so he would skip steps and you would have no idea how he got an answer. There is a lot of homework so it preps you some, but you are mostly left studying and learning by yourself to even do decent on his exams.
I was hospitalized for a week and took a medical incomplete in my other classes. When I tried to in his class, he pushed back on it even though I had a note from the ICU. The head of the department had to get involved. He is rude in emails. He says "students just need to do better."
