By far the worst instructor I have ever encountered. Her lectures have nothing to do with the material she puts on the exams. She will only give you 45 minutes for the exam and then proceed to have lecture for the other 30 minutes of class time. Does not review for exams instead will begin new lecture material. take someone else for Organic chem 1.
Teaches FAST and is out of touch with her students. Coursework is weekly quizzes (which are difficult) plus lab work. Bc ppl made A's on the midterm, she made the final twice as hard, so no one got above a C. I'm glad I only had her for lab.
She is strict but fair. Put in the effort and she will take care of you, and make sure you attend her office hours if you can. Most of her test material will come from the slides themselves, this was a large learning curve for me. Over all, she is a good professor and will help you if you ask and show effort.
A knowledgable but terrible instructor. The lecture slides consist of sporadic facts unfollowed by explanations and overwhelming graphs. Her fast handwritten notes are unclear. The textbook and material was self-taught using external sources. The midterm and final asked extremely specific questions over the vast range of content covered by both.
She was an okay professor. Quiz every class along with tests and labs but she drops the lowest grade on all. Lectures are pretty disorientating and I felt that I never knew/understood what was going to be on the quizzes/tests. She is willing to help you out if you reach out. Heavy accent for those with audio comprehension issues.
She grades on quizzes every class, a few tests, problem sets, and labs. She does drop the lowest grade of each. Not a good lecturer and I never felt like I knew what was going to be on the tests/quizzes but she is willing to help if you reach out. She has a heavy accent for those with audio comprehension issues.
Lecture quizzes are every week, lecture problem sets are due every week, and lab reports, and pre-reports are due every week. This class will require your time attention. Always be a chapter ahead. Teacher is kinda hard to understand so sit front and center. She answers your questions and is a sweet person through and through.
This class was hard, the midterm and final is what brings your grade down significantly. Know what you're doing for each experiment and get to know your TA. Recommend going to office hours if you don't know what's going on. Good luck!
Funny professor, thick but understandable accent if you sit up front. Weekly homeworks, quizzes, & lab write-ups which take many hours away from the studying you'll need to do for the hard exams. The difficulty is the time management and demand outside of class. She doesn't post many grades until after the final, so hard to know where you stand.
Dr. Panangala's teaching abilities are far from just being decent. Her grading is delayed, overall lectures are atrocious, and students must study on their own. She makes topics more complicated than needed, draws small and messy reactions on the whiteboard, and leaves students clueless when studying for exams. Her exams are designed for failure.
Quizzes at the end of each class are based on experiment done the previous week. Pre- and post-labs took very long (would've preferred if we just typed it or used a regular notebook). The homework was super confusing and required more information than what was provided in the lectures and in the manual.
Dr. P is a hard grader, but she is also funny and if you go to her office hours she will explain it more in detail if it didn't make sense in the lecture for pre-lab.
Good professor just difficult course. Highly recommend giving this lab your all. It is not easy, however Dr. panangala is really sweet and understanding.
I've taken Dr. Panangala for lecture and lab. Organic Chemistry is a really difficult class, yet Dr. P is very knowledgeable on the course. Her lectures are intensive and fast paced. I would recommend reading about subject matters before lecture and then after as well to keep up. This is not a class where you can just show up and get an easy A.
There is 35 minutes of lecture and overview of the lab that will completed in your lab section, it is then followed by a quiz (9 overall) that is usually about 3-5 questions covering lecture and lab materials that the TA will grade. Dr. P can be a tough grader on exams but she is funny in class and really wants everyone to succeed.
This class was confusing at first, but after a while, you get used to it. There is a quiz after every lecture about the previous class and the previous experiment. This lecture really helps one understand the labs from the week in-depth, and she gives us warnings and other information. She helps a lot if you just ask.
You must be willing to put in more effort than you are used to in order to be successful in this class. Although organic chemistry is hard, Dr. Panangala does an excellent job of explaining the material in a way students can understand and her expectations are fair. Dr. Panangala is always willing to help her students when they ask!
This class was very confusing at first since there is a lot you have to turn in for both lecture and lab but then you get used to There is a quiz after every lecture. Even though there was a lot to cover Dr.P was very helpful in helping her students in figuring out different ways to study and always opened her office doors for anyone.
ochem 1 lab is a huge workload (≈4hrs in lab/prelab, 3-6+hrs/week at home) doing pre/postlab, studying, and problem sets (especially unpleasant). Dr. Panangala must work within the confines of the lab manual which isn't good but she is very caring, gives some extra credit, is accessible outside class, and really wants to see her students succeed!
She gives a lot of assignments that you have to do at home. Doing the lab manual is not bad but is a lot of writing. Quizzes every pre-lab lecture, not too bad but is on what you just learned for the day. There is a midterm and final but she makes sure to be accessible outside of class so you can be prepared.
The lab for Organic Chemistry 1 has been a challenge to adjust to after taking general chemistry. It is heavy in its workload from lab and lab-lecture. Dr. P. does her best to assist students with the material, but it is a lot to cover in such a short period of time. I will be taking her for organic chemistry 2, hard class, listen and participate.
Dr. P is a great professor. She does her best to help students prepare for the course and lab. Since the pre-lab lecture is only 50 minutes, and you only meet once a week, there is a lot of material to cover so make sure you read through the lab manual and the slides posted before every lecture.
Dr. Panangala is a very sweet and patient lecturer. She will answer questions anytime and wants you to succeed! For 2123, there are quizzes every pre-lab but they are pretty straightforward regarding labs and presentation slides which I feel helps further understand the labs.
Dr. Panangala is a great person and professor. She is very patient and understanding. She takes the time to answer students questions and makes sure that we know what to turn in for lab or lecture(lab) the next time. Problem sets due every meet and short quiz at the end of class.
Dr. Panangala is a joy to learn from. She makes some funny jokes while lecturing in pre-lab. She goes pretty fast because there just isn't a lot of time in Pre-lab, however; if you ask questions, she will clarify to make sure everyone is on board. You just have to speak up and ask questions otherwise you may struggle.
Dr. P is a great professor; she simultaneously teaches the same lecture for both Ochem 1 and 2, but also teaches a lecture for Ochem 1. Sometimes she's hard to understand and difficult to get in touch with because of her schedule; she does not grade anything except the exams (TAs grade daily pop quizzes).
Dr. Panangala is a good professor, makes the class dynamic and explains difficult concepts in a clear way if you stay engaged. She's always available during office hours and truly wants her students to do well. That said, you definitely have to be committed to the class. Go to every session, study after class, and make sure to review the textbook.
Dr. P is friendly and her lectures are clear and easy to follow. All PowerPoints and lab reviews are posted online, which really helps. The workload is heavy but manageable if you stay on track. The hardest part, in the beginning, was the in-class quizzes since it's hard to know exactly what will be on them.
OCHEM 1 Lab is very time intensive and will take up a lot of your study time during the week so beware. Pre labs/post labs due weekly, quizzes every week and weekly problem sets that take up to 4+ hours. That being said Professor Panangala is very kind and cares that her students do well. I would take this class with her again.
The prelab lectures are informational because experimental factors change and make the quiz easier for you. The 2 exams and weekly quizzes count for a large part of your grade. The wet labs are a bit confusing, but most of the time your TA will explain the lab. The pre- and post-labs are easy; just answer the questions accurately for a good grade.
Dr. Panangala is great! I only had her for the prelab lecture, but she truly does want us to succeed and is extremely open to walking you through difficult concepts and/or covering material that will be tested on the lab midterm/final. Organic chemistry is hard, but getting an A in this course it is extremely doable!
She is really nice and funny however, sometimes the lectures are hard to follow. It is a tough course so that is not completely her fault. There is a prelab portion and an in lab portion with assignments for both.
This professor is very interactive with the students the material needed for lab. The quizzes are basically the slides she puts on blackboard.
Her class is extremely test heavy, and relies on a lot of memorization. Be prepared to spend most of your time studying for this class alone.
As long as you show up to pre lab lecture and study for your quizzes and mid term and final you will do fine but some effort needs to be put in.
Professor Panangala was a pretty chill professor. She gives quizzes at the end of each class, I wouldn't say they're hard, but they are helpful to study for the midterm and final. Also helpful for your grade.
Lecture is quiz problem set, and test based. Quite a bit of studying needs to be put in but it is doable. Dr. P is a very nice professor.
Really good teacher, every dry lab she explains what the experiment would be and how to do it, she will have a small lecture with a quiz at the end every week. The quizzes are not hard just pay attention to the lecture and remember your lab content and you will pass them.
Dr. Panangala is a great professor, I had her for lab it does help to make sure you are ON TOP of your work and to make sure you are paying attention in class. Definitely read the chapters before class. class is quite tough.
Orgo is difficult to begin with, but Dr. P does her best & she's very good at what she does. There are handfuls of assignments with the Lab but if confused, she's accessible outside (Office Hours, or by appointment) & helps break it down. She's genuinely funny in lecture, likes to hear about our experiences from the lab the week prior. Study Labs!
Overall great professor! Quizzes can be hard if you don't study but just stay on top of the content and everything will be fine!
Dr. Panangala was a great professor. I gave her a four only because the lab is a lot of work for a one-credit-hour course. Every week, we had a quiz, a pre-lab write-up, a post-lab write-up, and a problem set to be completed. Make sure you stay on top of your work and study for the prelab quizzes, midterm, and final.
Professor truly cares if her students understand the curriculum. If not, she will take time to reinforce concepts. The lab is a lot of work for a 1 hour credit, but the professor teaches well and tries to reduce the workload as much as possible.
Dr. Panangala truly wants students to understand the curriculum and even stops during her lectures every few minutes to make sure everyone understands. The assigned problem sets are long and take awhile to complete, but they help! Do not procrastinate and get lab write-ups done early to be successful in lab. This course requires a lot of studying!
Come, prepared, don't be lazy. Take time outside of the lecture. And you'll be fine.
Be prepared to study and memorize the experiments. I mean draw the reagents and learn your functional groups. Overall it is very fast-paced due it being only once a week and at a different pace then lecture. Overall, Dr. P is funny and silly, but it's scary from time to time cause I never know what's gonna be on exam.
Great professor! She explains the material clearly and is always willing to help. I definitely recommend taking her.
For dry lab Dr. P explains what the experiment that week is and how to do it, she will have a small lecture with a quiz at the end of every class. Do the problem sets every week and stay on top of pre/post labs. That is your best way in preparing for the quizzes and exams taken in the course!
Dr.Panangala is a great professor, i would say she does go at a fast speed in her dry lab lecture, but if you have questions, she does not mind repeating what you don't understand. Strong accent. There is a quiz for the last 10 min of the lecture, so study, be prepared, and listen.
Dr. P is a amazing professor and she genuinely likes what she does. The course is hard overall and you will need to study. The pre-lab goes in a fast pace but she will repeat herself if needed. 9 quizzes at the last 10 minutes of pre-lab, 6 pre-lab writeup, 6 post-lab write up and 7 problem sets with the lowest grades being dropped for each one.
Dr. Panangala was great throughout the O chem I lab. She is very accessible over email and through office hours. Pre-Lab lectures are clear and straightforward, and she gives plenty of opportunity for questions, gave extra credit at the end of the semester, is understanding, and genuinely cares about each student doing the best they can.
Dr. Pangala uses lecture to go over material directly from the quizzes. Make sure to take good notes on the lab procedure and any examples, and you will do fine. This is a textbook heavy course, but getting the zubrick will make the material manageable. There are weekly problem sets too, so if you are worried about your grade these add cushion.
Dr. Panangala is a funny and caring professor that will help you, if you talk to her. During prelab, she teaches a lesson about spectroscopy and lab reactions. She teaches fast and speaks low so it's slightly difficult to hear her in the back of room, so read blackboard before class and pay attention to lecture to prep for quizzes every week.
Dr. Panangala is a well rounded teacher with a clear outline of the class and desire to see her students succeed. She can be a little fast paced, but you know what is expected of you every week. She also does her best to accommodate students and give the most points possible (if you show work!!!). Overall would take again
You have quizzes every class that could be about the current lecture, previous lecture, or any of the labs. The class is not hard, you just have a lot of work to keep up with.
You must show up to class. It is a lot of work, but manageable. Dr. P does a good job at explaining and is funny at times. Overall, a pretty good professor.
There are weekly quizzes along with a prelab and postlab every week. The exams are very difficult, worth a huge chuck of your grade, and are difficult to study for. You are simply told to look over all the homework previously turned in. No grades are curved no matter how terribly the entire class did and no extra credit is given. Good luck.
I enjoyed having Professor Panagala as my lab instructor. She's super funny and made a lot of the curriculum easier to understand compared to lecture. Her quizzes were fairly easy as well. As long as you do your lab reports and study the spectroscopy units, you'll do fine. As of now, I have an A and will take the final the next day.
Dr. Panangala is a nice professor however the lab was harder than lecture for me. It required a lot of time outside of class to study and prepare. Each week you had a pre lab, a weekly quiz, a problem set (homework questions), and then a post lab. There are two exams but all the tests including quizzes are difficult. I recommend preparing for labs.
If you have her for lab she is very good at explaining and would def take her lectures she cares about her students
Attendance isn't technically mandatory but there's quizzes during every class, so for your sake, please for the love of God go to class. They're usually over the lecture of that day or the previous lecture.
She's a professor that really cares especially if you go to her with any questions or concerns she'll always do her best to help. I will say it's difficult to figure out what to study for the pre lab quizzes. The problem set week to week does seem to be a lot but as long as you do it ahead of time you'll be fine.
She's nice and will reexplain things if you ask. Not really anything bad to say.
Dr. Panangala is very nice. I only rated lower because the lab was harder than the lecture itself. Be prepared to study a lot.
Dr. P is a very kind and thoughtful professor. She is always there to listen to you whenever you need her and you can actually tell that she is listening whenever you speak to her. She has a great sense of humor whilst she teaches which help lighten the slight harshness of learning organic chemistry. I wouldn't mind taking another class with her!
She was very good at teaching the material. The class itself can be difficult, and it moves quickly since there is only 1 lecture a week. Just keep up and always attend classes. Quizzes are given every class, but they can be an easy way to balance out your grade, and they contain important information.
Dr.Panangala is nice and wants her students to learn. There is lots of material so her lectures go by quick so pay attention. She has quizzes at end of class each week. Pre-lab write ups, post-labs, and problem sets due each week. Lowest of each is dropped. 2 exams(not dropped)study concepts. Manageable but study ahead of time, lab is independent.
Dr.Panangala's lectures go by quick due to so much material so pay attention. Prelab write ups&postlabs due at lab.Problem sets due at class and quiz is taken at the end. Lowest of each is dropped. Two exams study structures, concepts,&procedure. Study as you go. Lab is independent so make sure to know what you're doing. Ask ?'s, office hours/email.
This class is a lot of work and it's a hard class. She does a good job breaking it down, my only complaint is that sometimes I had a hard time understanding her due to her accent.
Good for lab tries to explain to the best of her ability because o chem is really complicated. If you miss class, make sure to get it approved by the dean, and she will let you retake the lab you missed and the quiz.
Lectures a little bit too quickly, but does encourage you to see her personally if there are any problems.
Genuinely wants students to understand the material. Extremely helpful and always willing to explain material if you reach out.
quizzes are not that hard. just study your labs and structures. Tests are broad but questions are not that difficult. Explained relatively well. Does have a bit of an accent but you can still understand her pretty well. Very nice and will help you if you ask.
Great professor, the midterm and final are hard and are worth majority of your grade. Hard to understand material if not already covered in lecture. Overall very good teacher, always looked forward to o chem pre lab.
Dr. Panangala is a great professor. This lab is not light but Dr. Panangala gives you all the resources to prepare and succeed in the class. She is also very accessible and extremely helpful for questions over the material. You can tell she really cares about her students. I highly recommend taking her lab section.
Overall the class is difficult but she definitely made you feel more at ease with the upcoming labs that week and explained and simplified them really well. I can tell she genuinely cares if you understand the material as she will ask several times if things are clear or not. She's also really funny so that was a plus
Good professor, there's a lot of material we have to learn in a short amount of time, and she takes the time to make sure we understand.
Dr. P was super nice, I liked her a lot. She was very understanding. She graded a little tough with the midterm and final but as long as you studied it's not that hard to pass. You can go to her about anything and she will try to help you. She will explain things even if its just 1 person that doesn't understand, just speak up. She makes class fun.
This class is genuinely not easy but it's not the worst class ever. As long as you show up to class, do the pre lab write-ups, and the question sets, you'll be fine in the class.
Good professor, prepare to study and read lecture and lab materials outside of class. Takes time to explain things again when someone is confused on the material and makes sure if things are clear or not. Overall good professor and class.
There is a quiz every prelab so be ready. You have to pay attention to lecture since thats what's gonna be on the quiz.
Dr. P is a very nice professor. She's fun and clearly cares about her students. Though it is a lab, it feels like a second lecture, with test and quizzes to go along with it. It is completely doable, you just have to be willing to put in the work required.
She's not all that bad, you just can't miss ANY pre lab day since she always gives out quizzes that make a chunk of your grade. Her exams aren't too bad but you'll have to memorizing everything you did for every lab, even something as small as "what reagent did we us this one single time in one lab?"
Dr. P is great in my opinion. You can really tell she cares about people passing the course and she cares about the students themselves. You definitely need to attend the pre-lab classes as she gives out quizzes every week, but the quizzes aren't super difficult if you're paying attention to the lecture. Overall, great professor.
I am Speachless
Dr. Panangala was a caring lab professor and tried to help everyone out in class. There is a quiz and problem set every week, two exams, along with the pre-labs/post-labs that are graded.
Quizzes and homework are usually graded pretty easily but the midterm and final exams are difficult and graded toughly, and those are worth the most points. Lectures can be confusing if you're not paying super close attention, and even though she's open to any questions, it's definitely hard to since there's a lot of students in the classroom.
Overall, you can tell that Dr. Panangala does want to see us succeed and does ask us if we have any questions, which she does answer if asked. However, since it's many students per lecture, it can be hard to ask and depending on where you sit, it can be difficult to hear her or see the whiteboard when she's teaching.
Amazing professor
Great professor! Just two midterm and quizzes every week of pre lab
