I went into 301 not knowing anything. With the help of Mr. Hairston I've made much progress. His method of teaching helped me grasp certain math strategies that had before eluded me. Of course, you have to do your own work, but he is willing to help you when needed.

DR. H. is a great teacher. I took his summer internet course and I passed with an "A". This is an easy A as long as you do all of your labs and multiple choice hw. Even though the multiple choice hw is not graded DO take it seriously cause his test come straight from the hw.

Easy A, lets you correct incorrect work. Responds to emails within the same day. Took over the net & tests are the homework questions that he assigns..

Pretty easy... For Calculus, that is. He's very friendly and available for help.

I took Dr. Hairston for the online Computer Literacy class & I'm very glad I did. Dr. Hairston is very good @ getting back to people quickly, & even though there were a few problems w/ emails it was resolved. Everything about this course is very straight-forward. DO THE MULTIPLE CHOICE! The tests are exactly from the multiple choice handouts.

He is really helpful and interactive! he has workshop days which are great if you don't do your homework! you can also catch up and ask for help.

Dr. H is great! A rather mellow guy. Take good notes, do hw and the practice reviews he gives out, and you'll pass. Grades tests only. Always helpful with questions students have, and even tells some jokes/stories at random. Overall, Dr. Hairston is a good professor but be sure you have a tight grip on previous math learned.

Great teacher, just do ALL your homework and go to EVERY class and you'll get an A unless you're stupid. He's hot too, he's got pretty blue eyes and you can tell he works out cause his arms are nicely shaped for an older man. And he's really funny.

I took his online course and it was a breeze! From day one he gives you all the assignments due and gives you more than enough time to complete them all! One thing I will stress is do the homework. Even thought it is optional the tests are identical and it helps!! He is also helpful and available when I needed. Two thumbs up!

Prof. Hairston is a really good professor. He is clear and funny Don't get me wrong, you still have to work hard and do homework to do good. Tests are based off the homework. He gives out three tests and a final. The final counts 30% and also replaces your lowest test grade. Just don't take the class during summer because it is really intense.

This was the computer class required for Nursing graduation. I took this as a summer flex and was a little demanding. Time consuming!!! Do the work and get an A. *online class*

he will tell you if he's lecturing if not, if you have the book and the programs at home, you don't have to show up unless there is a test, you can even email him your completed work. any questions he's there to help you out.

Dr. Hairston is awesome! Although he is extremely unorganized and takes some time to return tests, he knows what he is talking about. Do your homework, show up, take adequite notes and you'll have an A. He is extremely funny and loves to share useless stories, but if you have a question about homework or the lecture just ask and he will answer.

The best math teacher I have ever had. He explains the material in a way that is easy to understand. If you ask a question he will NOT make you feel dumb for not understanding it. He goes kinda fast on some parts but over all if you hate math you will do great in his class. He really cares about his students. AWESOME TEACHER!!!!!

This is the best math teacher ever! I'm horrible at math so I made sure I paid attention and did a little more hw then he assigned, but he makes it very easy to understand whats going on. Sam likes to skip steps and shows you the easiest way to do things so it may take a few trys to get the hang of new ideas. Pay attention! P.S. Look at his guns.

Great professor that doesn't give busy work. He assigns just enough homework to understand the concepts. He is always willing to help you on anything (even old concepts from prior classes). You won't always know your exact grade & he doesnt respond to email or phone calls. If your focus is on the concepts he's teaching then this won't be a problem.

Precalculus is not an easy course, but Dr Hairston made it easy to understand. Took this class over summer, which made it even more of a challenge. He's a bit scatterbrained, but a really nice and funny guy. So far my favorite math prof to date!!

Easy teacher to talk to down to earth. Very helpful. He's also funny. Assigns Homework and you must do it to get a high grade, because calculus 2 can be hard spend a lot of time studying.

Stats is a hard class but Hairston made it bearable. He goes off topic a lot, but other than that he's great. Very easy grader!!!

Great teacher. He is a bit disorganized, but he is an awesome teacher. He gives plenty of examples, great reviews with answers on-line. Yes, there is plenty of homework, but duh, how are you going to learn concepts without practice. He will replace your grade if you do well on the final- grasp concepts by then and you can get an A!Hard but can do

I am horrible at math and haven't received a grade higher than a C since elementary, but this class was perfect for me. He gives a review and answer key for the test and there are no surprises. He tells you exactly what you need to know, and keeps the class entertained. He does tend to go off topic into stories but personally I enjoyed that.

Great teacher! Assigns a fair amount of hw. Gives hw of just memorizing up comming formulas. Gives full reviews, and normally takes two or three questions straight from the review to put on the test. HW is xtra credit at the end of the yr, and final replaces any bad grades. He explains well, and answers questions very well!

He gives HW from the book everyday which isnt mandatory to do but if u turn it ALL in when u take the final, he gives u extra credit. He gives EXACT reviews of tests & answers them online on this cool thing where u can actually see what hes writing & hear what hes saying. EXTREMELY helpful. BUT YOU HAVE TO PUT IN THE EFFORT TO HIGHER THAN A 'C'!!!

I had him for cal 1 & 2. He is very nice and funny. 3 tests and comprehensive final exam. He gives HW and you turn it in on the last day when you take the final test, but it is not mandatory. He answers HW questions too. He also gives a test review. He is not organized. There are better professors, but he works hard to explain the material.

Great teacher. As stated by other reviewers, hes not that well organized but he explains the material SO well. He's super nice and easy to approach. I'd usually be the last to leave class and he's always made sure I understood everything. Def plan to take for part 2.

Dr. Hairston is awesome. Great teacher. Although he gives reviews before tests, you still need to study hard to make an A. He knows what he is doing. I learnt a lot from him. Take him wont regret, highly recommended.

Hairston was and exceptional teacher given the tough material and the course work he did a great job of explaining material. he gets off topic a lot but noting too distracting he is a witty and funny dude. tests are pretty much the notes so if your not a good note taker you better learn. homework is a must to do well in the class

Smart man. He understands the math very well, and might have issues relating it to all students but he tries to. He tries to be clear, and he instructs well. He gives 3 tests and then a final. If you do the homework and know the material, you will get a good grade. If you don't and are looking to coast to a grade you didn't deserve: then you won't.

Dr. Hairston is a pretty solid professor. He teaches you what you need to know, and doesn't stray from the topic. Doesn't like to use Canvas, so don't bother checking it.

Take Dr. Hairston you won't regret it he is an excellent teacher and very knowledgeable I took him for all calculus series 1,2 and 3 and diff eq. hands down one of the best professors ant SAC

Cool guy, easy professor if your naturally good at math. Homework is optional but it can be used as extra credit at the end of the semester. Definitely one of the harder classes i've taken at SAC, he expects a lot from his students.I highly recommend him if you are looking for a challenge, because his class is not easy.

He has that sarcastic dry humor, which is pretty funny, sometimes starts talking to himself, but it makes him funnier. He really breaks things down, if you don't understand he will go all the way back to where he needs to in order to understand the problem(s). If you don't care about his class, he really won't care about you.

Took for Cal 1, 2, 3 and Diff Eq. Being in his classes prepared me more for UTSA's Engineering dept. than I could have hoped for. He cares and throws out knowledge daily about how the math is actually applied. He is disorganized but I have not found anyone who cares more at UTSA or is more humble. Don't take him if you can't handle non-linear profs

The work can be overwhelming and stressful at points, but if you keep up it's not too bad.

I took Hairston for Linear Algebra. He gives a lot of information for resources outside of class, but there will be no reviews for tests besides homework, and we had no time to go over homework in class. He also doesn't post homework online, so if you miss class, you'll have to ask him or a classmate for the missed homework problem numbers.

Dr. Hairstons demeanor comes off as unapproachable, but he does care about you passing and is there to answer questions. I took him for Lib Arts Math 1332 Summer. It went by FAST! but if you can do his reviews you're GOLDEN on Test.

Took this class in the summer and It wasn't painful or horrible like I normally feel about math classes! He is clear of what he expects and his reviews are just like his test. He cares about you passing and he gives extra credit, just put some effort and go to class and you will definitely pass. Coming from someone who is terrible at math!

Take notes and study them. He gives reviews for all his exams including the final, study those and the notes. He is available outside of class and will answer any questions you have. Cares about you if you show interest in the course and actually try.

I'm a math person and I used to took Cal I somewhere else but didn't do well. I took Hairston and he made it really easy for me. Yes, there is a lot of homework but he will have no problem going over anything on what you're confused about. If I was taking Cal 2, then I would take him again. Gives study guides which are very similar to exams.

I took Hairston as a flex College Algebra class and of course,this mean cramming a lot of work into about 2 months. Things are pretty self-explanitory,although I wish the syllabus would be updated to date.

Dr. Hairston was a great logic professor. I only needed the one math class that I took with him and I was so glad I did. He gave me a reason to like practical mathematics that we use in everyday life and his lectures, (while long), were actually really good.

Very clear on grading and what to be expected in the class. A math professor that is actually legible and transparent, vocally, in explaining how the math works. You need to attend basically every class to understand every objective. A higher final test grade will overwrite a lower test grade - which is fair and makes sense.

You have 3 tests and a Final Exam. Final can replace lowest test grade. There's a lot of homework but it is only 5 percent of your grade and he says if you have an A average on your tests he won't drop you to a B over homework. Homework is due the day of the final. The first test was kind of difficult but the rest were easy. I had to study for A's.

A pretty decent teacher; A tad droll, but decent. Maybe a little light on practical examples (aka "Why do I need X?"), but ultimately sticks to the course and gets as much done as possible. Do note that Pre-Calc is likely going to be the last math class that you can miss/skip a couple of days and not flunk, and that's if you're insane at cramming.

Professor Hairston will lay out the schedule of the class and what you'll be going over weeks before you get to that point. Ask questions if you don't understand he has no problem giving other examples or going over it slowly. His review for the tests are almost exactly like the test, study your work and you'll be fine. A great professor!!!

Dr. Hairston is a cool fatherly (type) Professor that you'll disappoint if you don't read your material before class. There is much to cover so, if you don't do read the material before the class you wont be able to write and conceptualize the material. If you can't pass it with Dr. Hairston you might want to re-think your major. Do the Homework.

Dr Hairston is an amazing professor. I barely scraped by in precal but I currently have an A in Cal 1 with him. He takes time to answer questions and he gives tricks on how to learn stuff easier. I took him in a summer 5 week course and I was nervous about a condensed calc class, but I loved it. He replaces low scores with the final grade. Awesome

How to pass: show up, take step by step notes, do the homework as soon as you get it and complete before each test. General policy is that the final will replace lowest grade. Takes time at beginning of class to answer homework questions, so ask. Will work with you if you need help as long as you openly communicate.

Dr. Hairston is a wonderful educator; he puts a lot time into his work life and he expects students to do the same with our time. He's a deep thinker, and can respond with sarcasm at times (which can be annoying when I'm not understanding a certain area of the lecture); but overall, he's a kind soul and incredibly smart.

Prof. Hairston is really cool and nice. I struggle with math, but he was generally very helpful and good at lecturing/explaining concepts and processes. One of the best math teachers I have had. He has available office hours does study days before exams. He grades all the homework on the day of the final exam. Note: he doesn't post grades.

This course is all online just do the work on time and not wait till the last minute. If you do that then you will be able to get an A. The professor is always going to be there if you need help on a question. For someone who doesnt like math this course was easy because the tests are like the homework we did online.

As an online class it was awesome to decide when and how much time you spend on this class. Homework was easy to understand and if you did your homework test were really easy. Professor Hairston was always available if you had any questions.

Professor Hairston is awesome, when I asked him about my test grade being changed since sometimes the online tests are hard to submit the answers in proper format, he did it no questions asked. Furthermore, he replies almost instantaneously when I had any questions (online class). P.S. their is a lot of HW and the third test and final is hard.

Professor Hairston was very nice during a relatively tough time for many students due to the pandemic. He was very accommodating, and even relatable in the messages he sent out. I took MATH 1414, a difficult class, but I feel like the Professor was able to make it easier.

Professor Hairston did online calculus in the best way. He used livescribe notes of his lectures, so it was very easy to follow and understand the materials given. He was available to provide extra help through email and zoom office hours upon request. He was a understanding of obstacles like covid and the snow storm.

The online flex college algebra course was easy to access the notes and assignments. The notes were very helpful and he was easy to contact.

Professor Hairston is an awesome math teacher. The class has a lot of homework, but he's always available to help. I found Unstuck AI super useful for practice problems and staying on top of the material.

This professor was great. He unfortunately lost someone while I was in his class but even having him half of the time, he was great. It is a very easy class! You get to use a few online resources to help with quizzes/tests. Would absolutely take him again!
