Took Online Econ 100. Completely horrible. Course completely based off the text and you better pray you can understand it as he does not respond to emails. Doubt you'll find him at office hours. Tests incredibly hard. Example test question: "Does a diabetic need insulin?". Idk how he is teaching here but I will be filing a complaint to econ dept.
He quizzes each week based on what he has tought which is the easy part. The assignments on aplia are all based on the book which he never uses, and the exam is also based on the book and what his taught so be sure to do your own reading and dont skip class.
tests are way beyond what is tought in class there is no reason the tests should be that hard this is supposed to be an intro class. everyone in class averages 75 percent on the tests -inconsistant grading and late assignment returns horrible do not take his class
Very hard class. His grading scale was poor and he gave out very little extra credits. Exams/quizzes were very difficult and too long for the time allowed to complete them. I felt I learned very little from him.
This class was incredibly hard - definitely not for someone who wants to major in Biology. He was never helpful when I asked him for help and the mid-term and final were hardly based on the book. If you can get around taking this class, do it, honestly. It will be a horrible quarter.
Weekly quizzes were slighlty difficult, but not too bad as long as you studied. You get full credit if you get a 90% or above on Aplia assignments. Final was basically material from the quizzes. Lectures were slow at times, but he does do some activities, and gives some extra credit. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he gives out worksheets randomly
His class was really easy. I got all my quizzes above 90%. He didn't require essay in the class. Final exam was pretty easy also. He did not like use textbook, but he would give you all the note during class. I got 4.0 in this class~
I took this class during the Winter as a prerequisite course for pharmacy school. I usually have a lack of interest in business related studies, but I feel that I actually learned from this class. I was taking two 200 level biology classes at the same time and still managed to 4.0 this class. Really easy if you study.
Aplia ($100) is used in this course. The finals are taken at the GRCC test center on specific days.
I do learn some from his class. He is very hard working!
His homework had nothing to do with the weekly discussions, and his exams had nothing to do with the textbook or the work given. the class averaged 42% on the midterm.
He fails in easiness. He DOES NOT give his instructions clearly and penalizes the class for his mistake. Recently, he wanted us to hand in worksheet but did not mentioned this in class. As such, he gave us 0 for that. I mean how the hack would we suppose to read his mind? On somedays he does not want us to hand in and on somedays he does.
Weekly discussions are a real pain it could be articles, podcasts, or videos that you have to listen to and post in the discussion forum. The midterm hardly had any material from the homework or book which was incredibly frustrating. Avoid this teacher (especially the online class) if you can
He gives quizzes once in two weeks and assigns news article analysis twice throughout the quarter. The quizzes won't be as challenging if you study the study guide beforehand. He marks attendance randomly so the idea of skipping class isnt good. His class is worth taking, thats why im taking his class again for Econ 201.
Online web sessions stopped after 3 weeks. Tests had as many "margin example" questions as actual content questions, including questions on material in chapters the class skipped. Source material for essays was sparse (2 page essay on a 3 paragraph news article). Extra Credit was the only redeeming factor, but I didn't learn much.
I feel his passion on him. He gives many chances of extra credits and I actually learned a lot from him. One thing is he only expects what exactly he teaches on exams. If you miss small steps he taught then it marks the score down. I am gonna take him again for econ 201!
Sam Le is a great economics instructor for a few reasons. He is willing to help you understand tough economic concepts if you take the time to seek him out. Also, the quizzes follow the format of problems he gives for practice in class. Take good notes, attend every day (random attendance points), and put in the hard work. You will learn a lot.
terrible. don't take his class.
Hes overall a great teacher!
Sam's lecture are super clear. I didn't have to read the book to understand the topic. He would give many practice questions in order to prepare us for the exam. Although he's kinda strict on punctuality, I still recommend other students to take his class
He doesn't respect your hard work. Just overall he has a really bad personalities.
overall, Sam is a great teacher, However, lecture is not really clear and little hard to understand. There are no "Actually study guide" for exams, and tests are so hard. You need to study hard.
I had taken a hybrid class; we didn't have class Fridays and would just post in a discussion/ take a quiz that day. The quizzes were fairly easy depending on whether or not you completed that week's assignment/chapter. Lectures were and Mr. Le made sure to answer all of your questions in person as well as email. Respond time to emails is quick.
First, I think the topic is difficult. Secondly, a lot of Le's directions are unclear. The online discussions were really interesting but nothing he tests on. The good news is that midterm/final are not make or break because he offers a lot of points throughout the quarter. Read the chapters, repeatedly. Do the EC. And follow the format on papers.
Tests are so much different from STUDY GUIDE and LECTURE, he hurts every student who likes studying.
This guy is a joke. He dose not work with students at all. The class was online and all he did was provide links to youtube videos . Overall the class is manageable you just have to do the work. Sam le on the other hand is no help at all. As a teacher he did nothing for me.
Tests are very hard. Nothing related to lecture and study guide.
He's a tough professor but Econ is also a tough subject. You need to go to class to understand the concept of the material. There's weekly online homework that you have to purchase for like $80 worth 10 point. Don't take class if you can't afford it, you WILL fail. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT OFFERED. The extra credit is what saved my grade
He is a very very nice man. As long as you follow the lecture carefully, you get the whole concept. DO NOT SKIP ANY CLASS. If you do not clear about something. ASK IMMEDIATELY, he is willing to answer those. EXAMS WILL BE HARD. Require critical thinking, do not expect something easy.
His lecture is super clear. Please pay attention to EVERY SINGLE WORD he says in class to pass with a high score. All point counts. Do not expect to make up past due assignment. He give Extra Credit.
Take the class. He really makes you study. He is a nice prof.
His tests are difficult. Lectures are short. His tests are not based off the text used in the class. He is a nice guy.
His tests are difficult, so be prepare to study hard in this class. Overall, Sam is a nice instructor.
He would attempt to "grade" discussions, which in my mind is an impossible act. You can't give grades on how people discuss. "9pts/15" "xxxxxx, your second posting on Sep. 20th is too short. Please make sure you write more and give more details in your responses." Apparently the length of writing now is the metric for the quality of discussion.
For the most part, if you show up to class and do all of the work assigned, you will get a good grade. His lectures and assignments are very informative, but the tests often have questions in no way related to the materials you have been presented. Getting an A on his tests is very difficult to do. Luckily, he offers a lot of easy extra credit.
How do I even begin with Sam? First of all, he is a great professor, I learnt many things from him. But the test... To be honest, I studied most of the class materials and the textbook, but his test is just somehow, not related to any of those. I have no words.
Le is a great professor from whom you will learn a lot. I agree, his quizzes are very difficult, but if you come to class every day, read the articles and the textbook, try to get all of the extra credit opportunities, you will be fine. You do not have to get full points for the quizzes because it is pretty much impossible. But he explains well.
Samuel Le is by far the worst professor I have had. The main problems I had were his VERY fast lectures that did a POOR job of explaining the content let alone give time to write down notes and understand the content. As well as his "quizzes" that are extremely hard because they have content that isn't seen or talked about before taking the quiz.
His class is really hard. Mostly because of his quiz is hard. But If u really study hard and understand what is he talking about in class. U will be okay. Understanding the notes he talked in class is very important. No need to read textbook I think.
First exam is very difficult, it covers problems not fully discussed in class. However the other two exams are hard but do-able, especially if you study for them! This class is one you have to work at and not just expect you can get a good grade by just showing up. Sam is a pretty good teacher and will answer questions but you have to ASK them.
Mr. Le is a tough professor! You will not be able to get away with a good grade if you IDLE! Be prepared to study and keep the track of the class. He is a big help anytime you need an assist. If you manage your time and deliver your assignments on-time, this is the class you WANNA take!
Awful lectures and ridiculously hard exams that are fully explained during his lectures
his lectures are quick and he never taught the class for the whole class time. My class was suppose to be 2 hours and 30 min and each time he would only teach for one hour and leave right away so that no one can ask him questions. his exams are difficult and they are never fully explained during his lectures
While Le's lectures are incredibly fascinating, his expectations are ridiculous & he is a terrible teacher. He knows how to prove that he is a subject matter expert but has no interest in actually teaching his students. He expects you to be a mind reader and his exams have very little to do with the course material. Exams are worth 75% - BEWARE.
I'm a student at UW and I have not been challenged this hard at the four year school in a while. This course has been the most lecture heavy course I have ever taken. Le overloads each lecture with so much information amd never goes into depth about how each approach works. By far the worst teacher I have ever had. Do not take his class.
The most important part you need to pay attention is the exam. He seldom smiles and is strict with the order during the class. Other things is fine.
Sam is basically what you'd expect at a community college. He is a decent teacher, and it is pretty easy to 4.0 if you just do the work, but if you are really committed to learning the material, it's your own responsibility. I also found he was a little arrogant at times, but that is just my opinion- he is still a solid professor.
If you want to pass Econ class, dont take his class. I think his expectations to students are ridiculously high.
the first class I am going to have to drop, a complete waste of money taking this class, I've taken econ before with another and that class was easier to comprehend. the first test the highest score was in the 70s. unless you're willing to dedicate all your free time to this class don't take this class.
Worst prof Ive ever taken. The first day of class he comes off as a nice guy but really isnt hes mean and doesnt care for you to pass. His exams are ridiculously hard & focus very little on whats taught. Dont take his class unless you want to teach yourself and somehow answer your own questions. Overall makes the class way harder then it should be!
I wouldn't recommend him if you are not going to spend a lot of time and effort in his class. He is also a bit scary/intimidating so I would not advise you to sit in the very front. The tests are all multiple choice (do not be fooled). Gives a lot of extra credit.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had. Would not recommend you taking this class. He is seriously rude. He has no respect whatsoever. Just please, do not take this mans class.
Contrary to what many people said about Mr. Les class, it isnt that difficult if you pay attention in class. Mr Le is able to deliver clear lectures. I never read the textbook and I got 3.9 for this class! Come to class everyday, do all your homework and make sure you take all the extra credits given- they will save your grade from the tough exam
He's very good at economics and he expects his students to be as good as he is. If you want to actually learn economics, I recommend him. Don't expect a 4.0 if you're not willing to work your ass off. DON'T TAKE IT IN THE SUMMER! This class single-handedly dropped my overall GPA from 3.97 to 3.90
Easy tests. Online homework is quick.
This is my second time taking Mr Le's class, and I must say that I genuinely enjoyed this class. He made lectures very clear and easy to understand such that you don't have to read the textbook to understand the concepts. His exams are difficult, but nothing too unmanageable if you understand the concepts well. I would recommend taking his class.
Easy tests, no homework, and lots of extra credits. I highly recommend you guys to take this class to get 4.0.
He is the real teacher who you can actually understand and learn the topic that he teaches. Tests are hard but he gives out a lot of extra credit's opportunities.
He doesn't help people to prepare the exam, he is not helpful at all. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Stone cold heart. Complete darkness. Your pain brings him joy. Jesus is my savior but he need anybody to save him.
He is a very very very good professor! He teaches a lot of useful knowledge!!!Very helpful teacher and The lecture is well organizedI really like the videos he put on the canvas, explaining everything very carefully, which is very useful for my economic life! If you really want to learn something, take his class!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! all the good reviews about him are a lie, if i could give him a -5 review I would, but sadly the lowest you can give is a 1. This professor is not normal, his class isnt college level its impossible level . His teaching compared to his exams is like learning first grade material and getting tested on the sat.
You know how when you take a multiple choice exam and you debate between 2 answers? yeah he gives you a 50 multiple choice question exam and all 4 options look correct There is no possible excuse that will work for you to take the exam on another day. If your'e sick, getting surgery, or dying then you better figure out how to b in 2 places at once.
nice man. After two exams ,I felt he really taught something useful! But I need to say,it is needed very very hard work. If you cannot get a good grade, that is not professors mistakes, its because you dont work hard. He has already warned everyone at the first class, this is not a easy one. If you dont want to learn, just go away.
This is a community college class, i came from a university level micro econ class. This is the same difficulty as a university, expect low/average grades. The class is fine, but i was expecting more than a 2 hr. lecture class like you'd expect at a university
I took an online class and to be honest he wasn't very involved. But this class was very easy. He provides a ton of extra credit, I think at one point I had a C but I did some extra credit and I'm passing that class with an A. There are only a few assignments a week and then a quiz, and then a ton of extra credit. I would definitely recommend.
There is too much to say about Sam. Personally, I enjoyed his class, but he can be incredibly intimidating to students. He expects you to work hard and if you put work into the class you will pass. I will say this one more time. IF YOU DO NOT WORK HARD, YOU WILL NOT PASS THIS CLASS!!! That being said, he is a knowledgeable professor.
He gave a lot of extra credits. Sometimes his exam is tricky. Do your best!
There were fewer extra credits compared with ECON 202. The exam was also very difficult. This class required fast reading and calculation. Don't give up!
One word: work. This class is a ton of work. Weekly discussions, hours upon hours of homework, and lots of videos to watch that teach you to do everything. Overall its manageable if you have discipline. If you can not manage your time in order to get everything done, be sure to do the biweekly extra credit. It helps a ton. Quizlets help too!
He is the best instructor ever I have met in GRCC. His lecture is university-level. He explains idea very clearly and straightforward. If you are the kinds of students who come to class everyday and listen well in the class, I promise you will get an easy 4.0 in his class. Plus, you have to put effort in this class.
Uncaring, no passionate, boring class. The worst class.
Really excellent teacher -- highly reccomend. Very comprehensive and easy to pass.
Poor communication, and loaded on the homework. Lectures were OK. The software he requires (McGraw-Hill Connect) is HORRIBLE. Costly and just feels like a waste of time.
He is a good and carried teacher. He answers every question you are concerned about. He provides detailed plus helpful lectures, instructions, and homework to help you understand the material. Homework and tests are heavy and similar. They contain lots of questions, but they help. You will have discussions every two weeks, and they are pretty fun.
He is a great teacher. You can easily get a perfect score if you work hard after he changed his grading criteria.
AWESOME! EASY TO PASS RIGHT NOW!
He is sometimes mean to students. I dont like him. I attended class but why he didnt give me grade. He seems doesnt wanna give students high grade.
Fair point of view: If you study, you pass. Not impossible to get a 4.o. Just turn in everything on time, one minute past you will get a 0. On the other side, he is not comprehensive at all! and can get intimidating! Take his class if it is only your last option!
His lectures are very fun to attend, hilarious dad jokes. Although he gives lots of hmwrk, he also gives you a whole week for them. As long as ur ahead of the game, you will pass and do good! Don't wait till the last minute! A 4.0 is really hard to earn, but possible!
I don't think Professor Le is a bad professor. He is strict in his grading rules but besides that, his class is set up in an easy format. Half of the quiz questions have questions from the chapter review assignments. I got a 4.0 in both Econ 202 and 201, and I didn't think that would happen.
Mr. Le is a solid professor. They may be a lot of homework during the week and each reading requires long test reviews, but it is all for your benefit for the real tests he assigns. He's also pretty organized, which I found very helpful. Discussion post participation is heavy but as long as you do the required work, it's a pretty easy pass!
Got a 4.0 I think the course is harder than him as a professor himself and doing it all online is probably doesnt help too as well. Hes a good guy though and is extensive when u ask questions but just a hard course in general.
Online class with very low engagement. Reuses old videos for announcements. Class it taught entirely by a program.
you have to spend $100 on a website to access homework and quizzes. lectures are boring and they cover barely a fraction of the material that are covered on exams.
I think he is kind. The only problem I have with this course is most of the class is self-taught. He makes lectures mandatory but I don't learn a lot because it seems very rushed. He only lectures on half the material and expects you to learn through the textbook and online homework. It's not that bad but thankfully this isn't calculus.
I have 0 respect for this guy. He responds to peoples questions like they are dumb. He gives more hw than all my other classes combined x 2. Does not seem like he cares that much.
This class wasn't that hard. I enjoyed learning the material. The prof helped us with calculations and concepts during the lecture and we had to read up on the material ourselves. There was a lot of work, but he gave enough time to complete them. You have to be good at memorizing the entire book to do good on the quizzes. He doesn't grad harshly
There's a lot of work, just stay on top of it. If you want to take econ 201, don't take it in the summer because the quizzes test 3 chapters. There are a lot of calculations and not much time. You don't get partial credit. I would take this class in fall, winter, and spring when classes are 8 weeks long.
Prof is super nice/helpful/funny/flexible. He really knows his stuff, which is why his explanations of anything are always good. He gives easy/relatable examples to anything U feel that U are stuck on. Plz ask questions if you want to get a good grade. Lectures r mandatory. Only con= TB costs $114.
Amazing Prof. There was a total of 4 quizzes in his summer quarter: each covered two weeks worth of topics (1-3 chapters of TB). TB chapters were relatively short. All quizzes are made up from majority of HW review assignments/quizzes are open notes and two hours with 60-80 questions. Make sure to do all of extra credit or else you can't get a 4.0
Professor Le is honestly a really good instructor. Although he gives a lot of homework that isn't worth that many points, he also provides a lot of extra credit and gives feedback if you ask for it. The only downside is probably the website you have to pay ~$100 for, but other than that, I'd recommend taking his class. :)
This goes for every class: if you aren't gonna put in the effort, you aren't gonna get a good grade. Prof Le is funny/caring/super nice. If you do all the work before Friday, you will have an easy time. He genuinely wants his students to learn/help them understand topics they are having trouble with. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE IN THIS CLASS!
I have no idea how people are giving this guy a good review. Honestly, he is the worst professor I have ever had. He treats you like you're dumb, has a snarky attitude, and forces you to have your camera on during the zoom class, his assignments are LOADED with questions between 50-112 questions per assignment. He doesn't care about you passing.
He would be the type of prof that you would need to spend a plenty of time doing his assignment. he gives a crazy amount of homework and personally i feel like he does not really pity students. you would get a chance to fix your mistake even samll ones. He really dosent care about student side. sometimes i feel he think we only have econ to study
Mr. Le is a pretty good professor. I will admit his teaching style won't suit everyone but it worked well for me.
I had such a terrible time during his classes. I took ECON 201 and 202 with him because I had no options. He gave a lot of work but I did not mind that at all the fact that he is not accommodating at all even if something happens to you, made it so much worse. He does not care about you at all, and often talks to you as if you are stupid
I enjoyed how clear this class was. Assignments were very helpful in learning and the class was formatted in an organized way. Some instructors seem to struggle with online teaching but not this one. I learned a lot here.
Sam taught this class well and was straight to the point. Do hw early/make sure you understand the hw questions bc they will be on exams. He does office hours by appointment. If you put in the effort, you WILL get an A. Ppl try to find the "easy way out" and MISERABLY fail. Make sure to ask questions if you are confused bc he will walk you through.
The online textbook site (McGraw Hill) used for HW/studying is expensive and expires within a few months, so I made the most out of it: I took econ 202 one quarter and took econ 201 the next quarter. Take 202 first bc it's personally more fun/a bit easier to understand than 201. DON'T ever think you can do all the assignments on the due date.
Bruh he literally has dad jokes in every lecture and lets ppl ask questions after lectures even though he has a very tight schedule. He is really patient and is a good professor. I am not sure why some reviews say he treats you dumb?! He literally answers every question with an example so that you can understand!
Not a fun class at all. I also never once spoke to the teacher. There is a podcast with a discussion every week, and the rest of you're work is on connect. I would recommend actually fully reading the readings or else you won't do so well like me. But quite a bit of work on connect I'd recommend starting you're work early in the week.
I noticed in the summer term, the number of assignments you have to do is less than other semesters. Regarding the 2 quizzes, it was 87-89 questions in 2 hours, which is the part I didn't like the most in the course, because there were too many questions and not enough time to do the test. Overall, he is so - so professor
He is actually super intelligent and worth it to take his class. But he is also very strict professor. Do not be late and do not cheat on his class. He will definitely know what you did. And be honest with him.
I took him for both 201 and 202. For 201's lessons, it was a bit difficult for me but with Professor Sam's help, I managed to pull through. However, beware that you have a lot of assignments to do and late work is not accepted. I always emailed him and he still replied at a good rate although his 201 class has an in-person test.
Good teacher and enthusiastic and gives lots of good examples, but has attitude when asking one on one questions. You read 10 chapters and TB cost $130 and each week you read one chapter and have 4 assignments that took 4ish hours for me. He has lectures using pear deck and gives extra credit for lectures which help. Have to study a lot to succeed.
He is good at explaining concepts and teaching but his policy is not. Don't take him if you want to lose your grade, the things is there were a lot of homework to do each week and his test was horrible.
very bad teacher , doesn't care about students and isn't understanding about anything and try's fail everyone. gives out too much homework and is very fast paced would not recommend for anyone. If you use a pen instead of a pencil he will fail you
Where do l start? There's a fine line between being strict and hard handed, and he crossed that line by a mile! Your weekends will be spent doing the never ending homework he hands out. He is super close minded to ideas that indeed help the student. Our first exam he offered extra credit which helped, on the final he didn't. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
A strict but fair teacher. Lecture heavy but actually taught me the material unlike other Econ teachers I've had. Provided extra credit after the exam. Had a solid amount of homework each week, but it doesn't matter what grade you got as long as you did it. He was lowkey funny. Would take him again.
The content of the class is not very difficult but this class is heavily bloated by busy work. The info could be taught in a single lecture or document, instead it it spread out across hours of multiple choice/fill in the blank questions. He offers extra credit too. Oh wait, it's another 60 question long piece of busy work crap assignment.
I would give him a 0, but that's not possibly so I give him a one. This class has an ridiculous amount of workload. I hope he knows that we have other classes on top of this one, I was on the verge of changing my major because of this class. if you don't have to take this class, DON'T TAKE IT!
Tries to finish average 45 slides in each class and is moving on very fast without giving students time to finish their work or think about it. Also makes terrible jokes that ruins the mood during class.
I've taken his class three times total, for econ 100, econ 201 and 202 and for 201 and 202, everyone in the class was struggling. The way he teaches in class is easy to understand but then the test is nothing like what we've learned. It's hard to connect the two. He's also very strict on attendance and being punctual, he will call you out.
Homework is too many and he teaches too fast
Has an attitude. Don't recommend taking, thank me later.
Derisive, irritable, and irascible.
Professor Le is strict but fair. The workload is heavy, but the lectures are engaging and the material well-explained. Unstructured study tools like Unstuck ai helped me stay on top of things. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
I ain't take his classes any mire because the workload is too much, and he teach too fast. Also, the exam is kind of hard.
I don't really know why everyone doesn't like Sam. I hate school and only was taking this class for a high school credit but it wasn't even bad. Yeah the class is boring but it's free. He basically gives you all the answers to the in class stuff, the homework is online and there are 2 exams which are the hardest. Just show up and it's very easy.
I take Samuel Le's class for Economic 100 online. The best thing was that it was only doing 4 quizzes rather than exams, which had shaped how I learn. While focusing on other classes has been easier. The workload was not as much, but if anyone desires to take his classes. I suggest working on the textbook material that will help you on the quiz.
Not ideal for people with day jobs. Test days mandatory at a specific place/time. You take an online when you work need flexibility. In order to view the test after it is graded you have a 2 hour window in the middle of a workday in order to drive to the college to view it. He isn't above ridiculing people in the zoom class. Awful experience.
Second to worst teacher I've ever had, thinks he's funny, doesn't care about you're opinions when you talk to him, makes you feel dumb, fast lectures and the class is 2hrs, homework is pretty reasonable, wish he was more understanding, if you can take Mark, TAKE HIM! its easier and mark will actually answer you're questions without any backlash.
If you don't have a religion, get one and pray.
He's pretty nice as a professor in class, is helpful and answers your questions, emails on outlook aren't allowed so you'll have to email via canvas, do NOT skip classes as he deducts points for it, missed 3 classes and 3-4 assignments and my grade fell 60% and it was very hard making that grade up, so beware!
the worst teacher i have ever had. run for your life asap!
