Best teacher ever. Very laid back and funny. Attendence isnt mandatory but everything is covered almost word for word how it is on the test plus at the end he drops low grades if you've got low absences. A 74 was an A my semester it was great.

He was very easy. And very helpful and doesnt like to go on until everyone understands. Very forgiving one quiz he walked out and let us cheat. he told us to cheat. Ask someone that has had him before for his quiz and test because he doesn't ever change them. So you can get the answers from there!

Perkins is AMAZING! I got an F in Chemistry with a different Professor, and was not excited at all for this class, but now I love Chemistry! Sam is awesome. Chem is a math subject, but he makes it easy and caters to college student thinking to help you remember ideas & formulas. Chapter quizzes and a test every 2-3 weeks. Teaches very black and white, not grey. Usually finishes Tuth classes in 50 min and does Q&A. Wants people to ask questions & is very lax in class. I'd take him again

One of the better chemistry professors. The first half of the material was super easy, but once we got to the second part, my grade started declining. I should have made a D or C in the class, but he bumped me up to a B. Sometimes he tells funny stories that relate to the material to help you understand it better. You can't go wrong with Perkins :)

Mr. Perkins is really helpful, he lets class out early. Explains things very well and uses extra time after class to help students who need it. He has easy 10 question quizzes over the chapters which help your overall grade and he drops your two lowest daily grades. Puts up power points and gives an extra credit assignment. Very good teacher!

Sam is an awesome professor. He actually teaches and if you take notes and follow along in the class you will have no problems with the tests and quizes. I am not a Chem person but he made it easier on me. He does try to explain everything fully but if you're like me and don't get science no matter how much they explain it, you should take this. He drops a test grade and 2 quizes. I failed most tests and quizes yet I still passed this class with a C. He gives extra credit, so this class is a Deff!

GREAT teacher! He's AWESOME! The course work is hard to understand, but he is so helpful and clear. He genuinely cares about your success. He offers some extra credit at the end of the year and replaces a quiz grade or 2 for everyday attendance. He was by far my favorite teacher. I highly recommend him!

This class was a cakewalk. Never bought a book or did any of the practice problems and still managed an A. Additionally, he's a pretty funny guy. Take him if you can.

He is the BEST proffesor you will ever have taking this course. What would really help me was he would help me study during his office hours. I was failing the class because of TEST but he saw I was trying and I made it a point he knew me by name. He gave me a B as my final GRADE even though I actually made a C. He is funny and nice. Perkins is hands down the best teacher I've taken at SHSU. The material isn't always the easiest and there is a lot of math involved, but he does a really good job related the material to college students: i.e. messy roomates, drinks, etc.

Material is easy, yet can be boring at times. He tries to keep things easy and tells you exactly what you'll see on the test--he's not here to trick anybody. He also throws in a lot of anecdotes, mostly for entertainment, so pay attention and you might leave with a laugh.

If you have to take chem, I definitely recommend Perkins!

Easy prof! A lot of math problems, but he gives practice problems during class and will answer any questions. He has some dry humor, so pay attention and you'll get a laugh. If you have perfect attendance, you'll get extra points added to final grade.

Sam taught me more about chemistry in one semester, than a whole year of high school did. For such technical content, Dr. Perkins delivers the knowledge clearly and with a sense of humor. He tells you exactly what you need to know to be successful on the quizzes and tests. You need the textbook as an adjunct to his lectures if you plan on passing.

I took Perkins my first semester here at Sam and he made Chemistry very easy to understand. Passed an attendance sheet around only 4 times and offered extra credit paper last couple weeks. 10 quizzes over each chapter at a time, and 4 exams with a final. I would take again- he cares about his students and related material to college life.

Perkins was by far one of the best professors that I have had. I've always struggled with CHEM and he made it easy to understand. He gives you tons of extra credit and quizzes for each chapter. Take notes and you WILL pass. Gives you the information you need for the tests and doesn't give you unnecessary info. EASY A!!!!

If chemistry isn't your strongest subject I suggest taking him. 95% of class time is spent lecturing, he goes over many examples and he tries his best to put hard information in ways that is easily understood. He gives quizzes over each chapter and tests over every 3 chapters that are relatively easy. Easy A if you show up to class & extra credit.

Perkins really knows how to simplify chemistry gibberish into chunks that are easy to understand. He lectures in a nonchalant and laid back kind of way, but if you ask for help in understanding something he'll answer your questions.

He's funny and his lectures are pretty much straight to the point. There's a quiz after about every two chapters, they're pretty easy if you actually study. Tests are ok, he gives you some practice problems from the textbook so you know what material will be on the test. Overall I would recommend him!

I studied maybe 1 hour before each major test and the lowest grade I received was an 88. I like science, but I knew nothing about chemistry before this class. The only way you won't pass with at least a "B" is if you don't take notes, don't show up to class, or just flat out don't care. No homework at all. And the labs and lab final is a breeze.

class is not hard since is for non science major. 10 quizzes and 5 tests(include final), drop the lowest from both. he will give the extra credit at the end of the semester that 2-3 pages short paper about pollution. His notes are detailed. wanna get A on the exam, do the practice questions he gives from the book. 75% of the final grade. 25% lab.

In his lecture's he is very thorough and will answer any questions you have. Perkins also does pre-quiz questions before quizzes to freshen your mind and go through them as well. Study and you should get an A. He is an awesome professor. I rented my textbook, and turned out did not use it at all.

I would certainly recommend taking Perkins. His class is fairly easy but pay attention to the lectures and study or you won't pass. I would recommend getting the book because he will give you a list of problems listed in the textbook to help you review for his exams.

I loved Sam's class! Lectures are handwritten on the board for you to follow along. He uses quirky little stories to help you better understand certain concepts which I found to be really helpful, not to mention funny. There is a quiz after each chapter. Quizzes can be difficult if you don't study your notes. Everything on the quizzes he lectures!

The best professor out there!! 10 quizzes, 4 tests, and a final (optional, he drops lowest test grade). Only one homework assignment all semester and that was to replace your lowest quiz grade. One optional 2 page paper for extra credit. Definitely recommend, easy A in the class if you pay attention.

Perkins is an amazing professor, he will help you when ever you need it. He is very easy to understand, his exams are easy if you study and go to class. If you don't go to class you will fall behind and it will be difficult to catch up and pass. We do have a quiz for each chapter and 5 exams, but he will drop the lowest exam grade.

This class was amazing. Attendance isn't mandatory however, there are in class quizzes almost every other class period. He gives small 10-11 question quizzes after he finishes every chapter, which aren't all that hard. The exams really aren't too bad if you study your notes and the resources he posts before the test.

Perkins is such a sweet heart. During COVID everything was very different but he did an amazing job getting you the resources you need in order to pass the class. Id say their is at least 1, 10 question quiz each week that is open note and 4 test then the final. You can tell he cares about his students and wants you to succeed. TAKE him if you can.

First off Chemistry has never been my subject, but taking Dr. Perkins was the best decision I made! He made Chemistry super fun! I never made below a B taking him! Few chapter quizzes, which are open note! 4 test and 1 optional final. His lectures are amazing! He works out problems by hand, so if you're a visual learner he is your best choice!

We weren't able to have his class face to face due to there not being enough room for social distancing. If you're not good at chemistry definitely do not take this class online. I struggled but was able to pull out a high B. 5 tests and random quizzes sometimes weekly. One chance for extra credit and its an essay.

The BEST professor ever! I am not a chemistry type of person but he made me love it because his lectures were very understandable. He's a funny guy and is always there for you to reach out to. People that give him bad reviews probably got a bad grade in the class. I'm not an easy learner. Reviews are kinda like the exams and offers extra credit.

Absolutely LOVED Dr. Perkins, the class was pretty much online except for test days. He would pre record lectures which were in depth and broke it down to make sure you understood it. If you are bad at chemistry, this is the professor to take, he is very good at teaching. His lectures are heavy, so if you skip class, yo most likely wont pass. quizzes are given every week. He gives a review for all exams and they are basically identical.

You need to take Dr. Perkins for basic chem. The class was really laid back, and we only went to class once a week to go over practice problems. We had 4 tests all semester in person and weekly quizzes. All the quizzes are on Respondus with webcam, but they are open note. You need to watch his prerecorded lectures to pass, but overall he was good

Professor Perkins wants you to pass! I had to take this class as a requirement and I was dreading it because I had always struggled with CHEM. He breaks stuff down where students like myself who don't know that much of Chemistry will understand it. I am so grateful I found him!

Dr. Perkins is an amazing professor. I took him while classes were hybrid and he posted lecture videos. Class was for practice problems and questions. Honestly attend class and you will pass. He gives test from previous years for practice and the answers to them. Class was not mandatory but he gave extra credit if you attended.

It's basically just a lot of note taking in class but he provides videos for you to do so I wouldn't say being there everyday is mandatory at all. Grades are mainly over quizzes and tests, gives quiz after every chapter completed. I typically struggle in Chemistry, hence why I got a D in the class. I would definitely recommend!

Samuel Perkins is the best professor that I have ever had. He is extremely understanding and his material is not that difficult. He is very thorough with his lectures and makes sure his students know the material. His class was not mandatory but it's highly recommended you go. Best professor I've ever had. Explains things extremely well and always helps when someone is struggling. Quizzes online for every chapter, and you can use your notes. Old tests are posted for practice, and that helps out. He is also very funny, and you would never want to skip class.

I have taken 2 chem classes before perkins and have failed both and it wasnt until I took perkins that I started understanding the most basic chem material because he makes it truly enjoyable to learn unlike other profs at sam. The only con about him is he is a slow grader but other than that he is easy one of my favorite professors!!

Perkins is a funny and great person. He likes to make jokes and tells short stories but they all relate and make you better understand the material at hand. Go to class and you will do good. Bring paper to write notes on. If he writes it, its important. Only uses textbook for text review questions. Do them though, it helps a lot on the test.

Hated Chem in HS as well as 8am's and was dreading taking this course. But when I say this professor single handedly changed my entire outlook on the material and the study as a whole I mean it!. Knows his stuff and knows exactly how to explain it for you to understand. Simply can't say enough good things about this man. Best professor on campus.

Absolutely hated chemistry in high school bc of my teacher. Came into this class dreading everything about the subject. This man completely changed my outlook on the material. Perkins is a cool and chill type of professor. Pay attention in class, take good notes, and you will pass. Chem is not the easiest subject, but with him everything made since and he is hands on during his lecture. Definitely 10/10 recommend especially if your an Animal Science major.

Lets you take exams later if needed. Explains chemistry very simple sp everyone understand. If you dont know chemistry take Perkins! No book, extra credit for going to class.

One of the best professors I've ever had. As long as you go to class, take notes, and do the old tests he posts, you should pass this class with ease. He also promotes office hours often so go see him if you begin to struggle! Very helpful.

I had Samuel Perkins for Chem 1406! As long as you go to class, pay attention to the lectures, take notes, and ask questions when you have them his class was very easy! You have a quiz for every unit but he goes back over each unit before posting the quiz. He also posted practice test so that you would know what to expect for the test.

He is amazing, take him! Go to lectures, if you miss you can watch videos online. He is so funny, says such out of pocket things. The best professor at Sam hands down. Final is optional, it replaces lowest exam grade. Do well on your tests, and score ok on your quizzes and youll be fine. He does offer random optional extra credit if you need it.

Take him for 1406. He makes his lectures easy to understand and fun. I know a lot of people find chemistry confusing, but he really explains things in the simplest form. Although I will say that it can be a lot of information to take, but that's just the class itself.

Best prof at Sam. He is funny and makes the lectures fun. He doesn't really use powerpoints but writes it all of the notes on the board so you work with him. He's an amazing prof and doesn't make anything difficult. Make sure you are paying attention in class and write everything he does!!

Absolutely take Dr. Perkins for any chemistry class you need to take. He makes understanding lecture extremely easy. Three tests and an optional final. Quizzes on Blackboard and you can use notes. Take notes in class. He lectures probably 95% of the time and the other 5% is taking the tests. That's really all there is to it.

I would take Perkins again if i could. Chem has been a struggle for me. but he helps make it understanding He is amazing and makes learning fun. 4 exams & optional final. he gives past videos & tests to study from. I love his class and I do recommend if you don't understand chemistry. Love him!!

Perkins is probably one of the best professors I've had. My only complaint was that after you got through the first few chapters, he starts moving through things really fast and goes about his lectures as if we already know about the topic. Attendance can be a lifesaver towards the end of the course though, so go to class!

I really enjoyed taking Chem with Perkins. I didn't take chem in high school so I was really worried but he made the basics really easy to understand. About half of the way through the semester though he started teaching very fast which made it hard to understand the topics sometimes. Other than that, a good professor for chem!

Chem was never my strong suit coming into this semester but after taking this class I learned that chem isn't as bad as I thought because of Perkins because he taught the material so well. As long as you show up you are guaranteed an A or B!

BEST SCIENCE PROFESSOR EVER! I went in thinking this would be difficult for me to accomplish being that this was my second time taking the course but to my surprise it was not as bad he was very clear with the information and long as you use the practice test as a review you will do just fine!

Professor Perkins was the best chemistry teacher ive ever had. He made sure everyone in the lecture knew what he was doing, and he would always do extra problems or go over something more than once if there was any questions. If you do the quizzes and the practice problems he gives out, tests will be easy. made a 100 on every test.

He is very nice and makes the chem topics extremely easy to understand. His class is not hard at all if you just listen to his lectures and take notes. He posts extra practice problem and previous tests that are basically the same as the test. He is very easy going and a sweet guy. He hand out practice papers and does them with you. take him!!!!!!

He genuinely likes to teach; he makes his lectures fun and easy to understand. He will hand out worksheets and does them with you in class so you can understand the steps to everything. He is very approachable and understanding when you do not understand something. Do his practice test before the exams; they are very very simailar to one another.

He makes the class so easy and understandable. We always got out early and I always learned something. Class was not stressful but it also felt productive. Great teacher, never tries to trick you on tests and is always willing to help. 10/10 recommend

Lectures were helpful, made things easy to understand and also had extra videos and powerpoints. Did some extra credit throughout the semester as well.

If you want to pass, I recommend you take a class with Professor Perkins. The way he teaches Chemistry makes it easy to understand/comprehend. Grades consist of 4 exams, an optional final depending on your exam grades, and chapter quizzes. As long as you put in the work and study, you should pass his class with no problems !

Hands down one of THE BEST professors i have ever had. Lectures are clear and there are lots of practice opportunities before quizzes and tests. Perkins is straight forward in lectures and tests with no tricks. His teaching style made chemistry super easy!

TAKE DR. PERKINS, especially if you are not great at STEM and are using chem as a requirement filler. The tests are difficult because it is chem, but his lecture style and study guides make the class very easy. He's funny, like dad joke funny. A little awkward, but an incredible professor.

I struggled with chemistry so much but perkins explains it so well, definitely take notes and watch his old videos for extra help because they helped me so much more than I expected. As long as you keep up with his notes and pay attention you should understand most of the content.

He is an AMAZING prof! He provides slides and lecture videos online (in case you miss class), and his in-person lectures are spot-on! He explains VERY clearly, and it's easy to understand. Has quizzes for each chapter, extra credit, 4 exams, and the final. DO NOT PICK ANYONE ELSE, THIS IS WHO YOURE LOOKING FOR!

The BEST prof at SHSU! He provides past lecture videos if you miss a class and makes his lectures very easy to understand. if you can take Dr. Perkins, DO IT! The only work outside of class is an open note quiz for every unit. He posts optional homework questions, also posts tests from previous semesters for each exam with an answer key to study.

I loved having him. He is such a great teacher. He gives a quiz at the end of each lesson and then you have maybe 3 test. The final is optional.

Perkins is amazing! His lectures make the content very easy to understand. The only required homework is a quiz after every chapter. However, I recommend doing the optional practice problems and practice tests to prepare you for exams. There are 4 exams plus the final. However, if you do well on the tests you can miss the final as one gets dropped!

Hands down the best at SHSU. I believe all the professors should attend a class taught by Dr.Perkins on how things should be TAUGHT in a lecture and not assume the students already know the material. He offers extra credit which will help you in the end. He makes class entertaining sometimes because he has a sense of humor.

Dr.Perkins is the best chemistry professor I have ever had. I got a B in high school chemistry but an A in his class. That is saying something since chemistry isn't my best subject. He offers lots of chances for extra credit. He gives out plenty of practice problems and gives you some extra practice from the textbook (optional). 10/10

This class was the best. Lectures were straight forward/easy to understand. He's always clear and gave lots of practice problems. He gives extra credit as well as help at the end of every class since we usually end early. I 100/10 recommend if you're looking to fly by this prerequisite w/ minimal stress. You just have to put some effort in!

He is super sweet and caring. Very easy to ask him for help. Answers his own questions incase people are to afraid to ask. You do have to show up every class or you will miss a lot of new information. Does extra credit. Tests are usually pretty easy. Final is optional!

He's great about making sure everyone understands. I personally have always struggled with chemistry, but thanks to Professor Perkins, I was able to excel with an A. There's not really any homework, other than a quiz after each chapter. For the most part exams make up for most of your grade. Super funny and tells jokes to give our brains a break.

Amazing professor. Before every exam, he post old test on blackboard for you to look at and some of those questions are on the exam. Always reviewed before every test. LOVED THIS PROFESSOR!

Professor Perkins is one of the best professors I've had by far. He breaks everything down and explains things in the most simple way possible. I think it's hard to fail his class. Before each test he will give practice sheets and extra practice problems and would go over them in the lecture and would put old exams for practice in the blackboard.

He's a really good professor and makes everything pretty easy to understand. The only thing is that you HAVE to go to class to learn everything properly, if you choose not to it will reflect on your grade. Other than that he's a really good professor and I recommend taking him.
