Probably the best prof I have ever had. This class will definitely make you work for it but the only people who insult him probably put 0 effort. Tells random hilarious stories which he sometimes relates to the topics. If you can take him then do it!
Great professor, very personable. Grade is dependent on the work and practice you put in.
Very clear explanations, as well very approachable. Killer prof in a small sized class. 1010 would take another course with him if he taught any other subjects.
The material is hard, not much can be done about that. Sam is great, could not ask for a better Professor to guide me through the material.
Sam is a great prof, don't miss class study hard u will get At least B+
Great professor. His level of teaching and delivering information is one of the best I have seen. Due to his high teaching standards, he also expects a lot from his students.
Aside from the fact that his tests are hard and it's a relatively hard course, he is one of the best professor's i've had in terms of helpfulness, clarity in class and cares more about the work rather than the final answer when grading his tests.
Sam is the best professor I have ever had at Saint Mary's. He gives tons of examples to ensure everyone understands the concepts and answers every question with a respectful and understandable answer.
Very clear regarding his explanations of the material. The tests are much more difficult than the class material would lead you to believe, though, so if you don't do practice problems when studying, don't expect a great mark
He is a great prof. Every bit of mechanics of materials has been drilled into his brain. Always there if you need help. One of the best professors at Saint Mary's.
Very friendly towards students
Best engineering course i have taken because the teacher is enthusiastic in teaching this course. Taking notes and attending his lectures and tutorials are crucial for this course. I will not recommend taking 6 courses a semester when you are taking this course.
Very interesting class, takes a lot of work to master
Fantastic professor, my favorite at SMU by far. Still go back to SMU with questions from time to time.
Fantastic prof. Mechanics of Deformable Bodies is an important engineering course, and he conveys the subject matter clearly. His tests are challenging, but if you understand his assignments, you will do very well. I wish all profs were this good.
Great representation of a young engineering mind. SMU should be proud of having a prof. like him. He is tough but fair. He prepares you for what's coming at DAL. Take him for any engineering class if you can.
Awesome prof!
Best Prof!
THE PROFESSOR SHOULD EASE OUT A LITTLE SPECIALLY WITH EXAMS AND MIDTERMS!
Sir, please relax with the exams difficulty
This Prof exactly knows how to deal with a student. No matter its a small point or a huge problem, he will discuss to the level you are all satisfied. Been a very good experience overall. And yes surely his way of teaching us will definitely help us in the future. Thanks Sam!
Best engineering prof at SMU. Very clear, enthusiastic and helpful during office hours. Class is tough but rewarding.
awesome prof But with disgusting quizzes and exams
Thermodynamics more often than not can be a very dry subject to learn. Sam made every effort to make class engaging and interesting. He was fair, thorough, and extremely helpful. Easily one of the best teachers I have had in university. You can really tell he cares about his students and is not just in it for research. He truly wants you to succeed
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Sam is tough be if you go to class and get extra help you will learn a ton!
Will sit down and work problems out with you to make you fully understand the material if you ask for it
One of the best professors I've had to date, he's always willing to help, extremely fair marker, tests seem easy because of how well he explains the material. If you have an opportunity to take a class with Dr. Veres do not hesitate!
Yes, he teaches a very difficult class. That means you have to study. (Welcome to engineering) But he does also do a very good job at teaching and his assignments are directed towards what you could expect on a test. As far as Saint Mary's University goes, he was my favorite professor because he kept my interest every class.
Well planned lectures and you can drop by his office for help at any time
Really nice guy!
Very hard marker but helpful
One of the best looking proffs I've had ... Hot as hell girls ....
Amazing prof, super helpful even if the class is hard, go to his office hours they are a great advantage, surely I would take any course with him
He is such a good teacher, always there to help.. He might be a bit hard in the exams but he is always trying to make everything easier for you when you go to Dal.. Btw, he is the best good looking engineering teach at SMU :) He likes to run and his geek style is cute!
He is a great prof, very hard and usually you need to have your time to understand, very good looking but he needs to slow down,
Had him for Engineering in Society at Dalhousie. Very clear lecturer and great speaker. I found it very easy to know what points he expected us to learn and remember. I would highly recommend taking a class from him if you have the chance.
Great prof. Wants people to succeed and will give you additional help if you need it. Addresses everyone with respect but you've got to put the work in if you want to do well.
Sam Veres is a really good professor, the way he teach is good, and when people have questions about the course, he answered the question with patient.
One of the best profs ever. Very clear,
Dr. Veres is very good at teaching mechanics of Deformable bodies. Lecture notes are very clear, tutorials and assignments are helpful when preparing for the exam. Tests are fair enough. Always makes you feel welcome during his office hours.
Dr. Veres provided a great experience in class, offering extra help to any who needed it and delivering very clear and concise lectures. The courses tend to be tough however, and you will have to put the work in to do well.
Dr. veres is a cool down to earth guy. Always in a good mood and very approachable. hes funny and he really knows what hes doing it comes to teaching the material. Only problem is that the tests are hard.
Great guy, excellent prof, but a very difficult course. Majority of the class fails the first midterm but the second is much easier. Excellent wearer of cardigans.
Showed up prepared for every class. Didn't waste any time. We had a small class so there was plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get feedback. Lectures brought much clarity to the subject matter. Material is presented in the same order that you will use it to solve problems.
He made me realize that I actually enjoyed engineering, was extremely helpful and, was always patient with answering questions.
One of the best professors I have had during my degree. Being a recent graduate himself, he was able to relate to conceptual difficulties people were having. The assignment scheme was helpful. Extra help was always there, and often used. Class was thermo fluid dynamics, can't remember the course code. 2012 - Dalhousie
Good guy
Clearly lays out what will be tested, when tests will occur . Easy layout if information and great at explaining . Failed this course elsewhere and took again at Dalhousie during the summer. Actually understood the material after this course!
Professor Veres was one of the better professors I have had. Although the course itself is challenging he does an excellent job teaching the materials and was always willing to help out whenever I needed it. You will get out what you put in with this course do not take the tests lightly.
Very helpful and gives extra help if its needed. Intelligent and good teacher, would like to have him again
Sam's explanations are clear and well thought out. He answers questions in a meaningful way. No powerpoint (which is a better way to learn). Don't expect to just show up and pass, but if you try the problems you will. Very friendly. Overall great prof.
Lectures are very well put together, he clearly knows his stuff and is very prepared. He has a very good sense of humour which makes his classes fun to attend even though they are at 8:30 AM. Very friendly and approachable, definitely one of the best professors I've had at Saint Mary's for sure. I wish more professors were able to teach like him!
Great prof!
He is a great teacher who is really devoted to teaching. Something rare to see nowadays, unfortunately. I had a great time in his class.
Great guy. Gives very clear explanations, and can answer absolutely any question you ask. Style of teaching keeps your attention during class. Tutorials are very helpful in understanding the material. Weekly quizzes keep you on your toes. They basically make sure that you have grasped the main concepts from the previous week. No complaints!
Professor Veres is an excellent teacher. His lectures are fun and helpful. He is always there for his students, and he's incredibly kind and personable. His tests are challenging although incredibly fair. His marking of the tests is more than fair. A few more practice problems with solutions would have been nice for those without the textbook.
Great prof
Great professor, explains things clearly and concisely. Doesn't assign too much work, but enough to solidify understanding. His midterms and exams are pretty tricky, but if you do your work you'll do great in his courses.
Yup the tests are tricky. Be very prepared for tests
Good prof, good guy, interesting class.
Super good at getting his point across, easy to understand the concepts. Tests are challenging. Practice is definitely needed!!
Best professor at explaining complex problems
Awesome prof, he knows his stuff and is very organized.
Top Gun Professor, conducts a great class and teaches the material to the best of his ability as the material is conceptually tough and his tests reflect that but are also fair. Labs are good and the project is fun. Also his self made textbook is great. Awesome Prof, Awesome Class.
Great teacher and very helpful
He try to explain The matrial the best of his ability, he is always there to help either after class or office hours, the thing is his test are very difficult with studying the assignments and tutorials carefully yet you will find the tests very very hard one of the hardest courses
Sam is a very helpful professor, he does good examples in class and tutorial and his tests are similar to those examples. That being said the material is difficulty so expect to put some time into the class if you want to get a good mark.
He's organized. Very good proff, just a hard class.
Sam is a great professor. He is very clear in explaining the concepts taught in class. It is important to attend class because he does many examples which will benefit you for the tests and assignments. It is a tough course but he makes it engaging and easier to comprehend. One of the best professors I have had at SMU.
Sam has nailed down how to teach this course. He has a method that works, and he sticks to it. The labs are very helpful and demonstrate the concepts in a real life setting. He makes the material seem easy, but be prepared to do some work on your own time to fully understand it. Best engineering professor at SMU.
Great prof, tests are hard but he wants you to really learn the material, and prepare you for the real world. He's kinda funny too.
Amazing prof, really knows what he's talking about. Very approachable, great lecturer, sense of humour. However, his tests are difficult, he definitely makes you work for a good grade.
He is very knowledgeable, and has no difficulty explaining the material. He does not rely on powerpoint as he writes all his class notes himself on the board. His tests are tough, but he is more than fair when he is marking. He cares about his student, and is always willing to help. Great prof, would take another class if given the chance.
Amazing prof. Hard course but he teaches well. Tough grader Friendly
Definitely the best prof i have ever had in my entire life! He's simply a genius. He can give you a clear answer for anything you ask. His lectures are amazing. Don't skip any. His very well organized as well as he's very clear with his explanations. His exams are hard, but if you work hard, you'll expect an A
Definitely one of the best profs I had. He's very friendly and explains his material carefully and thoughtfully. Never caught off guard with a question and gives clear answers. Expect a project - Sam will help you with that only if you go to him. If you enjoyed statics, you'll love this course.
Simply amazing
The lectures were extremely helpful as well as the labs. The number of examples helped to give us a good foundation so when we went to do questions ourselves we were more prepared. I really enjoyed the bridge project. The hands on aspect was good and something that you don't get in most classes. Overall I would say that it was a good experience
Phenomenal professor, the textbook is not necessary but I suggest buying it as you WILL use it in the future. The content of this course is very well presented at a reasonable pace. Weekly assignments are not graded, but useful to do. Weekly labs/quizzes are basically free points. Dr. Veres is approachable and offers research opportunites.
Great Prof. Amazing person. Excellent at conveying ideas and making class enjoyable Do well in the lab quizzes, lab assignments, and group project. They make up 40% of the grade. The midterms are challenging (Doing the assignments/tutorials are an okay prep, do the extra problems also for a good grade). Purchase his book and read it, it's amazing.
Sam is a phenomenal prof who goes above and beyond to ensure students have everything possible to succeed in his class. If you do not understand things GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, he will sit with you until the issue is cleared up. One of the best profs i have had to date and would highly recommend taking any class you can offered with him.
Best professor at SMU. at least in the engineering department. I wish he taught more classes. He is so organized and lays out the material so well and can explain the same concepts in a million different ways.
Very knowledgeable, approachable, and follows the course outline.
Make sure you go to class and labs. Do the assignments and tutorials and youll for sure pass!
Hes a good guy with a positive attitude. He put so much effort on you, but in return, he expect a lot from you and not to ignore, hes a hard marker.
Good prof, attend lectures and do all assignments on time inorder to pass. Textbook is a huge help and textbook problems are good practice for exams.
He gave really good explanations of the material and cared about whether or not it was understood
Very organized and clear explanations
Samuel Veres is a prof that is there for the student 100%. Anytime I didn't understand something he was always available to take the time to help me understand a concept. His lectures are entertaining and he can make the material feel less daunting. His textbook also helps a lot to reinforce concepts that he explains in lectures.
If you attend lecture & tutorials you'll do fine! I didn't purchase the textbook, but looking at it, it looks like the only textbook I've seen that could actually be helpful, and it's super clear to understand - probably because it was made by Sam specifically for this class. Go to his office hours for any questions, he'll be super helpful!!
Hands down, one of top 3 profs in SMU. I wish he taught 3rd year and more. If you love a challenge and want to be prepared for it by the prof, he is perfect!
Really good prof, probably my best prof so far in university. Very organized and clear with his explanations. Has a great course layout and great textbook written by him.
Dr. Veres takes the time to make sure all of his students are learning to the best of their ability. He simplified complex concepts, which made for a successful learning environment.
Easily one of the best professors at SMU. Dr. Veres's lectures are very organized and easy to follow. His tests are hard but fair, as long as you attend the lectures and do all of the practice problems you should do fine.
Honestly one of the best profs in the engineering department at smu. he grades fair and his teaching is second to none. he is available outside the class and replies fast to emails. he will do his best to make sure you understand the material and as long as you put in the work in his course I am 100% confident you will do good
Knows his stuff well and teaches it really well
Great prof, tough course.
Sam is a great professor and he really cares about his students. His class is hard and you will need to work really hard but he is open to suggestions if you have a problem. He isn't going to grant you extensions unless you have a super valid reason so make sure you set away time to watch his lectures which are LONG. Work hard and you'll be ok!
Sam is honestly one of the best professors ever. He is very blunt and straightforward, whatever he tells you, do exactly what he says. Very cool guy! The course itself is challenging. If you don't go to class or study, don't expect to get good grades or even pass.
Main issues with the course was the breakdown of the grading, 45% of overall grade is based off a final that: 50 multiple choice questions Not expected to finish the exam no partial values available with M/C Less focused on learning and appreciating the material, focused on strategy to survive the exam slaughtering.
He's a good prof however, the online testing methods used feel unfair. If you have the opportunity to take a class with him in-person I would highly recommend it
great professor other than his quizzes were really bad worth 20% of your mark and if your answer was off by 1 decimal point you lost the points because it was online submit the number thing
Sam is great teacher, his lectures are pretty long but they're all on YouTube so you can pause, take a break and go back whenever. He always emailed me back and he is VERY understanding. Be ready to do an assignment and a quiz every week though. The weekly problem sets are work but they help so much for the quizzes.
You will watch old videos in this class for "content" then will be given an evaluation where you will receive no feed back if you are right or wrong. Would not recommend taking this class with this prof.
Nice prof, but a bit hard to access for office hours.
good proffessor
this prof. was well prepared to teach online compared to other professors. he knows how to use technology for making online courses easier. very great clear writing.
He was a great professor. The textbook was amazing, and the lecture and tutorials were great. Beware of the online quizzes.
Very well laid out course schedule. Prof is very easy to work with and very talented in engineering. Made it quite feasible to understand core topics
Decent prof, found the course extremely difficult this year as did my friends. Was happy to get a mark of 50% on anything.
The class is very hard if you don't participate in class.
Sam is a great professor. He is very organized and explains the material well. The material isn't necessarily hard however there is a lot of it so be prepared to dedicate hours to this course. Although the course requires lots of effort, the material is very cool.
Amazing prof. Lectures are amazing, explains everything so clearly. He even wrote his own ($18!!!) textbook for the class that explains everything perfectly and concisely.
Sam is a great prof at explaining the material you just have to pace yourself and keep up with the material. The course is generally not an easy course but once you put in the extra work and hours you'll do great. Beware of his quizzes ad exams!
Sam was a really great prof and his office hours were really helpful, I strongly recommend taking advantage of them. Piece of advise, try to not fall behind on asynchronous lectures (if applicable) because its a lot of material and it might not come naturally.
Amazing prof if you put in effort he makes the course enjoyable and you shouldn't have any issues. Nothing but praise for him.
This professor is great! He is thorough in his explanations, understanding of circumstances, easily accessible and overall a great teacher. Some professors are brilliant, but dont have the ability to teach, this is not the case. He was wonderful to learn from and made himself available whenever possible. One of my favourite profs and classes!
You will enjoy the course.
It was easy to fall behind.
Sam Sir is very knowledgeable person. He has in-depth knowledge of the subject. One of the best instructor in my lifetime. I would recommend him, if you really want to know everything about this subject in terms of lab, project etc.
Sam gives out a very good lecture just that you'll need to work hard to understand the material.
Proff is good but make you work a lot
Dr. Veres is a great prof who expects a lot from his students but provides them with the tools required to do so. His lectures are excellent and he has a very good understanding of the material and is able to break complex problems down into simple steps that allow students to understand not only the problem itself but the concepts used to solve it
Although its an online class, it feels like being a face-to-face class.
Best prof ever, Wouldn't think twice before taking another course with him.
If i could take another class with Sam Veres I totally would! I don't have one bad thing to say about him. Amazing prof, teaches everything thoroughly, and easy on the eyes if you know what I mean xD
being in his class was a horrible experience, taught grader, difficult class, now, he doesn't teach anymore. I bet most reviews were written by him and his family, many repetitions like phenomenal prof, Dr. Veres will offer you this and that.......sketchy.
