This professor is amazing. She is so clear and wants you to get a good grade. Attendance is mandatory, you can only miss 3 times, but it's interesting and she is hysterical. 3 papers (3 pages each with a partner) 3 tests. Go to class listen to what she tells you to study and you will get an A. All b-school kids have to take this class take groome!
She is a great professor. If you go to class there's no way you'll get less than a B. She teaches straight from the book, very clear and usually tells you what you need to know for her test. She's a generous grader. Take her class
Love her class! its interesting and she makes things clear and easy if you just put the time in.
I agree with what everyone else said. She's a really nice lady and a great teacher. She's pretty funny too! Take her!
Sanda is the best Professor EVER!! She's so fun. Very Fair, very helpful, never any tricks. You can't help but love her stories. Gives easy extra credit on test that anyone can get as long as you attend class. so go. Won't regret. Probably better choice than HOGG if your tring to decide btw them.
good, when taking tests make sure you put everything down, even if you think its not applicable
she is the best teacher i have ever had. Fun to go to class and makes it very interesting
Hands down, this lady is amazing. The papers are the only tricky part of the class (there are 3), but you can work in partners, and you have to go to a writing and legal coach, so at the end they aren't too bad. When picking between her and Hogg, if you really want an A, take her...if you really want to know the info (or go to law school), take Hog
Groome's tests are very straight forward. She tells you exactly what to study and she gives extra credit. She is a very cool teacher.
Sand is straight up the bomb. Easy class but also informative
Sanda is awesome!!! Wants everyone to do well. Very friendly and funny. Truly cares about her students and treats them more like her friends than the typical professor -student relationship.
Best professor ever
Sanda is a riot. Class is always fun. However, grading seems somewhat arbitrary at times. And (somewhat predictably) people who are good at memorizing a ton of information are predisposed to doing best in this class (ie, if you're good at biology, you'll probably do well in this class).
I agree 100% with the comment below mine. I found the class difficult while it was very entertaining.
Groome is THE tides professor to take if you're in the B-School. She's funny, very knowledgeable, and approachable. We had lunch every time we had class, went on several field trips, and were given only one assignment (a group presentation at the end of the semester)
FINE!!!! Class was a lot of fun. We ate every time and she was pretty interesting. I'd LOVE to be her next TA.
Very good class. She covered a lot of material throughout the semester. I suffered because I did not study well enough for the first exam. Even if you think you know the material, you have to study because the exam is very thorough. You must explain everything covered in lecture on the exams. No multiple choice or short answers.
Like everyone says, the class is fun. The tests, however, are not. Grading on the tests is subjective. Grading on the papers (there are 3, 5 pages each) is subjective and contradictory. The writing and legal coaches battle for who we listen to most after meeting with them. Overall, it's rewarding but difficult.
Class was very interesting but the tests were definitely hard. You must study in advance since so much material is covered on them. However, she is very helpful and I suggest going to her office hours.
Class is interesting,& Sanda adds some humor, but the grading is extremely subjective & inconsistent; because grading was so subjective, it was difficult to argue test grads as it might affect you on the next test. There a definitely favoritism in the class. Sanda did not have any office hours making it impossible to meet with her.
Best teacher ever. Made the class very fun. Wants everyone to do well. Her tests are difficult, but she gives great reviews. Always willing to meet with students. Helped me with my outline. Take her class if at all possible.
Love Sanda
Loved her! I was so interested in this class. She pulls examples from her experience as a lawyer, and makes it practical. Her tests are all writing, but are definitely fair if you study
I had her for business tides. Two words: she rocks. Take her for anything if at all possible. She's fun and understanding and knows her stuff.
Great teacher. Will teach you so much about the law, and teaches the material as clear as you're going to find. Tests are exactly what you should have in your notes. If you take notes diligently tests are not hard. Very fair, just need to memorize alot of information for the class. Extremely cool woman, and a fun class to take.
Sanda is great. She used to be a lawyer and knows her stuff. A lot of material covered but she will tell you what to know and what not to know. Always available for help in office hours. Great lady!!!
Best. TIDES teacher. Ever. Can't wait to take her for Legal Studies
Best Business Tides professor. She's really nice, and you hardly ever stay the full hour and fifteen minutes.
Legal Studies in Business: Sanda was a lawyer and is very nice and knowledgable. Class has 3 group papers, 2 tests, and a final. Papers take a long time and tests are graded very very strictly. Requires hard work and studying along with class attendancenotes. I received an A- and worked extremely hard. Overall, interesting & very difficult class.
if you're an athlete take this class otherwise take it with a different teacher
Sanda is the greatest teacher ever. My dad is a lawyer and I thought I knew this stuff. She made it so clear. Class was fun, and I think I'm going to major in Legal Studies!
You have to take Prof. Groome for TIDES!! Super super easy with almost no work (just a short little group presentation at the end of each semester). Highly highly advise taking her!!! She's so sweet, knowledgable, and you get pizza every week! Best class!
B Tides is two semesters which is a commitment but it takes care of your first level service learning which is great. Professor Groome is a great resource from class advice to the dos and don'ts of Mardi Gras.
Her LGST3010 class is fantastic. She's a great and engaging teacher, and her tests are really fair (her old tests are a great way to study if you can find them). She cancels class when she can't go (I had three classes canceled, which she said is not typical for her).
Sanda is such an interesting lecturer and can make dull material really interesting. I have taken 3 of her classes and have loved them all. TAKE HER.
Inconsistent grading. I put the same responses down on my exams as my peers (we studied together), and she failed me and not my peers. I never failed any course at Tulane, being a mostly A's student. When I scheduled office hours to meet with her, she stood me up TWICE. Think twice about taking courses with her.
Disappointed in Sanda's class. I heard great things about her, but I didn't think this class was fair. Disorganized class, incosistent grading, and tests are impossible unless you have the test from past semesters. Limited office hours and she ditches them frequently. Doesn't post grades so its impossible to tell where your final grade comes from.
Love Groome. The subject matter is not the most interesting, but she makes it interesting. Uses real world cases and situations to explain the law. Take good notes in class. Go to office hours. It really helps to talk through the more difficult topics. Gave optional dates to take the final. Understands students.
She only lectures so there are no powerpoints or online tools to help, besides the textbook. She will never respond to emails or post anything in a timely manner. Tests cover a ton of material and she grades completely subjectively. I took her class because of her rating and would NOT recommend to anyone. Extremely difficult and stressful class.
Her rating on this website is not representative of her class. First, the grading of her tests is inconsistent. Two people could put down the same exact answer and receive different points. Doesnt post any grades throughout the semester. Had an A going into the final and felt good ab the test and someone my Gibson grade was a B.
She's the best. Definitely go to her office hours before exams. She posts outlines. Only tests you on things she talks about in class. Pay attention to the examples she uses in class. many times they end up on the exam. Taking her again next semester.
I loved this class. If you attend, listen to her lectures, and take good notes you will do well. Do not miss the office hours before the tests. Learned a lot. Can't wait to take another class with her! People that don't do well in her class are not showing up or just not trying.
I just finished a 5 day intensive class with Sanda and I would love to take it again. Usually intensive classes (my third) are long and boring, but this one was great. Spoke to her audience and kept it very interesting. Wish I could take a regular semester class with her. Sign up now
If you can't get into Groom's class in the fall, wait and take it with her in the spring. She makes the class very interesting. Pick a good partner for the writing assignments. Go to her office hours before the exams. Very helpful. Pay attention and take notes.
I took the intro LGST class with Professor Groome and really enjoyed it. The people who reviewed her negatively are def b school folk who show up to exams cold. Overall great class.
Love this class! Take Groom for all your legal studies classes. Knows her stuff.
Prof. Groome is honestly really cool. She only tests on material she covers in class (as long as you take good lecture notes, you'll be set) and is incredibly reasonable and understanding. As long as you communicate what's going on, you should be fine. She really knows her stuff. Also, pay attention to examples she uses in class!
Horrible
Took Insurance&Risk with Professor Groome. I'd taken her once before, but this class was much harder. However, it is absolutely worth your time/effort. This course goes over practical information you'll thank yourself later for knowing. 3 tests, each are scenario-style but manageable if you listen during lectures. Worth it, but get ready to work.
Horrible professor. Will not email or get back to you when she says she will and will assign things last minute and expect you to be okay with it. Unorganized, rants endlessly, and just seems like her priorities are elsewhere. Take someone else or just skip this specific class altogether she just rants about topics and doesn't teach anyways...
Loved this class. Talked about a lot of discrimination issues. She had some really good speakers. Enjoyed the presentations. Take as many classes with Professor Groome as you can.
She's the best! Loved this class. I thought it would be boring, but she made it so much fun!
This was an online intensive class. 6 days, 9 - 5. The best intensive class I've taken. Made the topics very interesting. Great group case presentations. Just an overall great, fun class.
This TIDES class is pretty easy. A few homework assignments and one big group project and then everything else is attendance based. She is pretty nice but if you take the law and order tides you definitely do need to be prepared to read cases.
Absolutely the best. Now I want to be a Legal Studies major!
Love her! Tried to get in her Business Law class for next semester, but it filled up immediately. I hear the other profs are awful.
Prof Groome is understanding, makes an effort to understand her students. But very little feedback on assignments even though there are quite a few complex assignments to do in the law tides class. It's interesting material, just not a lot of feedback and could get quite boring/ tedious to be writing papers after every class presentation.
She's the best. She really helped me work through some Freshman issues. I wish I could take one of her classes, but I'm not in the business school. She made the class as low key and easy going as possible with the hurricane and everything. Took the whole class to lunch!
What was supposed to be an easy credit for a freshman, she made life overwhelmingly difficult. I was extremely sick one week, and let her know. Getting into campus health is very hard so I was unable to get a doctor's note. Even though I emailed her and let her know I was sick, she still gave me zeros on every assignment I missed.
Great class. Interesting speakers and group assignments. Lots of class discussion. Prof Groome is my favorite teacher.
She doesn't grade anything until the end of the semester so it's hard to see where you're standing until you receive your final grade. What is supposed to be a nice and chill freshman seminar class is somehow made stressful because of her demand. She can be very rude and isn't very understanding. Class is interesting but not worth it.
Loved this class. It was an intensive class, but she made the time fly. She made some very difficult legal concepts easy to understand. She allowed for a lot of class discussion. I really enjoyed subject matter.
She is one of the best LGST professors at Tulane. Very knowledgable and personal. Highly recommend her for any class.
She is nice, but she is extremely difficult to access outside of class. I never got clear answers on any questions I had.
LOVE HER. Badass and makes it interesting. Graded by homework, partner papers, and 3 tests. Tests are not bad but she is super specific about the answers. You need to remember the definitions for everything. Super funny and nice, very accessible outside of class and wants you to succeed. Curved at the end. Must go to class, participation is points!
Professor Groome is a great professor and makes the class very enjoyable even if you do not have an interest in law. She really cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. Only things discussed in class are on the midterms.
The best. The only Tides class you should consider!
Great Tides professor for law and order. Attendance is mandatory, she mainly only cares if you're there. There is one incredibly easy group project to end the semester. Each class is mostly watching law and order with food provided. Our HW consisted of "go to a sports game" or "attend the internship fair". She is a great professor to take for TIDE
first 1/3 of the class is great. the entire rest of the class (other than 1 or 2 speakers) is group presentations. i think she didnt want to teach, so each group teaches the class a chapter for the whole class (1 hour 15 min presentation) and she cant even manage to show up on time.
Great class. We had some wonderful conversations regarding some difficult topics. Sanda made sure everyone had an opportunity speak their mind. We had some difficult students in the class, but she always maintained control. Take this class. Take any class with Prof Groome.
Definitely take Groome for legal studies. There is a textbook but I haven't even opened it. As long as you show up to class and listen, you will be fine. She isn't a boring lecturer and keeps you engaged. There are homeworks, but they are on an online software and based on completion.
Professor is fine at explaining concepts. The tests do make up like 70% of the grade. Tests are not hard as long you pay attention in class because she gives away some of the questions and if you ask about something not on the test she will say its not on the test. You also have to do every reading because the smartbook questions are adaptive.
Groome is an engaging lecturer and the class is very interesting. Attendance is mandatory and you will want to go to class because she tests on class content. Midterms and final make up pretty much your whole grade. She is a tough grader but you just need to figure out her style. Overall, I learned a lot in this class and enjoyed the content.
Take her for as many legal studies classes as possible. She only lectures, but the topics discussed are so interesting, you never get bored. The only downfall of this class is that the tests are very specific, and she grades them hard, so make sure to be specific as possible. She also does take attendance at the beginning of every class.
She didn't teach a single thing in class and just rambled. Then made tests super specific about random things from the textbook that had to be memorized. I would not recommend her class to a classmate.
Love this class. Counts for race and inclusion for NTC. one test over law. Great group presentations and speakers. She's easy to talk to. allows everyone to have a voice. always has good stories. Talks about her views and experiences, but doesn't force them on the students. Groome is the best.
Groome is great! Love her. Adding a legal studies minor!
BEST TIDE EVER! We eat pizza and watch Law and Order every week. Most weeks we have an easy two-sentence assignment about the next episode of the show. It is also a service credit, which is great. The reviews on here have been saying she is a slow grader, however she grades all of my assignments quickly.
Actually the worst.
Loved this class. Professor Groome is the best. Really cares about her students. You cannot leave Freeman without taking one of her classes.
Wonderful class. Wonderful professor. The best at Tulane. So much better than Hogg.
I won't lie, it's a hard class. She has SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE and her lectures are amazing. She's hilarious and cares about her students. This class covers things everyone should know about the real world. Written exams, difficult. Study and go to class/office hours and you'll be ok. You'd do yourself a disservice if you don't take a class with Sanda.
She is literally the best professor I've had at Tulane!!!! She loves her job, knows everything she's talking about by first hand experience, and makes class so interesting. I thought this class was so interesting and loved her so much but you have to go to class and study for this class. TAKE HER!!!
Awful teacher
She is the best! I learned so much from her. I was really concerned about the final. Went to office hours and asked questions. It really eased my anxiety. I really with she taught BLAW. Take every class you can with her. She has great style.
Sanda is the absolute best and you need to take her class! She is a great lecturer and is clearly so knowledgeable. The exams were challenging but if you engage during class and put in the work you will succeed. She is accessible outside of class and willing to answer questions. She's the best and this class led me to declare my legal studies major
We literally watched law and order and ate pizza during class. Prof Groome is super funny and will help freshman with anything they need to start college on a good note.
