Math is hard, but she is a good teacher
she never seemed sure of what she was teaching, very uneasy learning from someone who constantly confused herself. Half my class failed and lost scholarships because of her.
Horrible teacher, worst math teacher i have ever had. She failed over half the students in my class because she didnt like us. Has an attitude and does not provide any outside help to her students.
Other students seem to know the calculus better than she does. Quizzes are fairly easy if you do the homework and study, and tests aren't too bad. she is a nice person and makes sure she learns students' names.
I don't see what everyone is complaining about? She teaches everything in an effective manner with minimal confusion. This class was easy to follow if you put out the effort and paid attention.
she explains the material well and has office hours if you need extra help. if you study and listen in class you will do well.
She is hot!
She is one of the best math teachers that i have ever had. She explains everything clearly and is willing to go over what you don't understand. If you get a question wrong in class she doesn't make you feel like an idiot for it, she will just encourage you to try again.
Nice person, tries to help but cant. Doesnt answer questions completley doesnt allow class participation and isnt great in calculous. Only class i have ever dropped b/c it was to confusing i literally had no idea what i was doing But if your r lookin for a pretty teacher with a nice body this is her
Excellent instructor for a difficult class. I never had any trouble getting outside help.
at the begining of the class there was about 22 students. when we finished the class there were only 8 of us. She seemed confused at many times and picked on students she didn't like. Her voice was very annoying and took away from my concentration.
When ever I asked a question she looked at me like I'm an idiot, gave extremely brief & vague help & left without asking me if I understood it. Picked on students trying to catch them off guard. She for some reason decided to single me out a number of times. I'm not sure why. What a ****.
be prepared for sarcasm. highly don't recommend her. she always makes the students go up to the board and solve problems. if you don't get it right, she'll make you feel stupid. she rarely lectures. the group works are stupid too. don't take her...not worth it. she doesn't really care if you do bad.
no experience in teaching, hard to follow, just fill you up with homework, tones of quizes, even the way the grades are calculated you will never get it, she just in hurry to finsh regardless the students understand what she is talking about.
very hard tests but only collects hw on test days. she has a somewhat active class and calls on you alot and has class time for students to do problems on the board so your not totally falling asleep. she is very rude and and doesnt explein very well if you have questions. not reccommended
solid teacher willing to help
I can't understand anyone who doesn't think she's a good teacher. Left class every time very confident about what I learned. Very nice, and yes, she does call on you, but it's not an attempt to embarass any one, simply to help you. So if you're past a high school level of thinking and want to get to the next level of math, take her.

Boring class because I tookt he wrong test (hence tested too low). But she is nice and doesn't collect homework. Quizes are often and tests arn't hard at all. She takes everything step by step. SHe also wears the cutest clothes.
She will get you prepared for Math 155, if you are willing to put in the time. Easy to follow. Does plenty of examples.
she went so fast it wasn't even funny. If it was algebra it would be one thing, but third year calculus....at least make an attempt to explain how you get the answer!!
I see how lots of people could say this teacher is too fast. For me fast is good, it never gives me any time to nod off in class. I'm not sure how it would be if it was a harder subject but for me this is review. I'm loving it because she's teaching algebra to me in a way i'll finally remember. I see how some people can think she treats people stupidly, but to me the people she treats that way need to be in a lower class. Great sense of humor. will be difficult if you don't do the homework.
i'm repeating calculus, and this is a great review class for me. its really fast paced, so i think i woul die if it was my first time. but i think she is nice and does a decent job
It was probably her first time teaching 2A, and was hard to understand her lectures. Her exams are hard, and she's anal about homework. I paid more attention to her though than paying attention to math, she's a hot teacher.
she sux....too much hwk....too much tests....she thinks shes better than u.....when u ask a question, she makes u feel dumb.
She only makes you feel dumb if you are really dumb or don't try. Do you work and she won't treat you like you're stupid- She treats you like an adult, that's perhaps why an immature kid in the class may not like how she teaches. She may not be the most exciting teacher, but she does attempt to engage the whole class, which is respectable.
Asked her for help and she told me to figure it out! Asked her for help one day in her office and she told me that this was not my classes office hour, but there was nobody waiting to talk to her. I only had a 2 min question. Will never take a class with her again.
She's tough and she constantly calls on everyone to anwser questions, which is terrible when you don't know or weren't paying attention, but she's a good teacher who cares about her subject
Overall she is a good teacher. Sometimes she goes a little fast, but she will continue to review problems if needed. The homework didn't need to be turned in even though there was a lot assigned. it is helpful for the tests if you do the homework, and it is also helpful for the quizzes given every class.
was cool and nice to look at but she moves quickly. i had a bit of a hard time staying up to speed with her but i am not great in math. she does encourage class participation which is good it kept me on my toes
Sandi is a great teacher. She's young, energetic. She has a no non-sense approach to teaching. she is there to teach. She expects you to be there to learn-she doesn't put up with students talking over her in class. She demands interaction from all students. She is thorough in her instruction. I thought she was a great teacher.
Really kind and helpful, work is simple.
Any negative comments, like most comments on this site, don't reflect Sandi; they reflect the student and thier interest in the subject. She is a great teacher, and really does care. Good personality. Take her if you have a good attitude towards math, don't take her if you are one of these lowlifes who blame others for thier problems.
She has attitidue. Her class is not for someone who isn't good at math. She moves fast and will leave you in the dust without hesitation. If you have prior knowledge of algebra, her class can be a refresher and the fast pace will be fine. Her short-cuts are helpful to make things as simple as possible. She's a cool person outside of class though.
She gives you all what you need to know but doesnt teach....
She does move really fast, so I would not recommend her if you struggled in the class before hers. I took it as a review and it was really helpful, but if I was taking it for the first time, I would probably be really lost. But she has a good sense of humor and attitude. She's really cute too; my boyfriend had a huge crush on her.
She's a nice teacher but she moves fast. She's really helpful after class, but not much help during class. Might be a good fit for people with high math competency.
Okay. She is a nice enough lady... so dont get me wrong. But i can not warn you enough about this teacher. If you have ANY kind of struggles with math at all, RUN for your life. She is a very fast-paced teacher. She talks faster than most high school girls. Before I even had the problem written on my paper she was already done explaining it all!!
I absolutely hate math, but Sandy does a really great job and actually made math kind of fun for me. I have never gotten above a C in any math class in my life and I got an A in her class. If you put in some effort you will be rewarded. She explains things clearly and answers all questions. Plus, she is super fly :-)
Don't listen to the naysayers, hands-down best math teacher. --- If you have a problem with her pace, it's YOUR problem for not preparing. This is the normal pace of REAL mathematics, and those who took the initiative to take honors math courses in high school should be familiar. --- Also a generous marker, and almost overflowing with helpfulness.
Sandi is an interesting professor. She tries to make things simple and has her own form of shorthand that really does not help at all. When I told her I was not understanding the material on several different occasions, she had no help or support to offer. Some people might like her as a professor, but I ended up retaking the class.
Sandy was a good teacher. She was funny and taught you a lot of useful tricks in solving problems. She did move fast but it was managable. I learned from this class, and i wish she was teaching 150B.
Simple rule here folks. Pre-read the assigned chapters. She gives you the schedule at the start of the semester. Moves way fast, and yes, she talks faster than a high school girl. (gotta say this though) ASK HER WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FINALS FOR 150A.. something about wrong papers:) Hi Sandy, you were great. Why won't you teach 150B in the spring?
sandi was a very good teacher. her class was a breeze.everyone says she is fast and hard, she is not at all! it was fun and easy. if you want to do well make some friends and study with them before class.
Sandi is a nice person. However, if you have a difficult time with math at all do not take her class! she moves extremely fast. Not very helpful when you are struggling in class, even in office hours. She has a HUGE attitude, has called students out on several occasions for petty reasons and made it a bigger deal than needed. Take someone else!!
Math 1B is a hard class, but I think Sandi is a very good teacher. She is very knowledgable and easy to approach. The only time I struggled in this class was when i didn't preread or do my homework. Honestly, your performance in this class relies heavily on adhering to Sandi's instructions. Do your homework, and you'll be fine!
I am a good student, I went to every class and did all the homework, but barely made it through with a C because the material on the tests does not match up with what she teaches. She wants you to understand the material and then be able to apply it to any problem she decides to put on the test, making it really hard to study or know what to expect
Sandi is an excellent teacher. She's very friendly and helpful and moves at a reasonable pace. Her tests adhere to her lectures and she really tries to help you understand. Highly recommended.
best teacher ever. she made it so easy to understand. yes she has an attitude BUT only to those who mess around in class... this is COLLEGE, not high school so if your a smart allick she will be on top of you which i completely respect! she goes the right speed and makes sure every one understands so it was nice.... i am taking her again soon
great nice teacher if you pay attention and do your homework can easly get atleast a B
She teaches really fast. Before I finish writing down the question, she?s already done explaining it. she has very little time for extra help. After every test she pretty much tells you to drop if you aren?t doing well. More then half the class dropped. Even though I passed, I would not recommend her at all. She needs more experience.
she is an awesome prof. big ups.
Nieto is a great teacher. She's pretty sassy, which can be taken in different ways, but mostly good. If someone doesn't understand what she's explaining, she'll re-explain. She's straight forward with how she wants things done. Used MyMathLab, which was helpful. I would take her for all of my math classes if she taught them.
She is absolutely amazing! I have never ever been able to understand math, but something about the way she teaches just gets through to me.
Sandi is an amazing teacher. Yes she is fast, but she gives you exactly what you need to know. She expects that you have good study habits and go over the material. Also she is gorgeous and a fantastically nice person, which always helps!
Teaching style- great. She's got a fabuloussense of humor, totally approachable & has a current style of lingo that everyone gets. entertaining as well as so fluid & adept at breaking it down..knows her stuff. Yes, she will go down roster & call on ppl 4 answers whether u hav one r not..made me go home & make sure i knew i ws prepared 4 next class
she goes too fast expects you to know everything, i would never take a class with her again, she doesnt help you at all.
She was a good teacher but she uses mymath lab for hw. I'm not a fan of online hw so i didnt do so well in her class
Sandi Is an amazing teacher. She is so clear with her instructions and makes class super fun and easy. She does talk fast and you have to write fast but anytime you need her to slow down, repeat somethig or explain in further detail she will. Being called on seems scary but it really helps you grasp the concept she is teaching you! TAKE THE CLASS!
Sandi is a very good teacher. She is always in a good mood and wants you to learn. Do your homework daily! It is hard to catch up once you fall behind in My Math Lab. Take her, she will prepare you for 155.
Go to class, ask questions, and stay on schedule with the test's.
I didn't feel like she was interested in teaching. Nieto has a huge attitude, and makes the environment in the class room very uneasy. If you are struggling on a problem, she does not help you. She just tells you to figure it out. She gets very irritated when you are having trouble. She has a sense of entitlement to her. I have had way better.
Awesome teacher. I haven't been successful in a math class until I had one with Sandi. My Math Lab really helps as long as you do the homework everyday consistently. If you come to class as much as possible and keep up with online homework, a good grade comes with it.
This teacher is really well organized, and always has a great lecture prepared. All homework was online, which I really liked. But each class she would have her lecture and answer any questions. She was really patient and always seemed to be in a good mood. Just do your hw and you will be fine. Take her for sure!!
I like Ms. Nieto. If you do the hw every night like you should, you'll be fine. She sometimes has you get in small groups, which I find helpful, to work together with other students. Nothing was terrible. The tests & quizzes aren't tough, just review all of the notes before the test.
Sandi is an awesome professor. Yeah, she's tough, but she's down to earth and is completely realistic. If you do the homework and study for the tests you will get an A. Oh, and she's totally hot (she knows it too)!
Sandi is an awesome instructor. She makes each concept very clear. If you need clarification on something, she will help you to the best of her ability. The online homework makes the class fun. Make sure to turn in your paperwork from each assignment and show your work, not just the answers.
Very hard class! plus no slideshow just do it yourself technique... well be smart to attend this class and nerdy
sandi is the most awesome person in the whole wide world. TAKE HER CLASSES
Sandi is a awesome teacher, the class is hard, but if you pay attention and do your work you will pass. She calls on people for answers which is stressful, but it makes you pay attention. You will end up loving this teacher!
I was toasted in class countless times by her. It was my first semester at the JC, so I was struggling to adjust. If you want to have good start at school, DONT TAKE HER!! for the sake of your self esteem.
Sandi is a very gifted and creative teacher, making things easy to understand and she does it in a fun way. Stay ahead on the online homework and you will do well. Also don't be afraid to ask questions, she likes that.Last thing, her good looks can be distracting at times when it is important to pay attention, so look up gentlemen,up!
Grades down on tests for insignificant details. Makes you do MyMathLab homework as well as written homework. Both are due. Calls on you by name at least once a week at random. Verbally insults you if you dont understand or if you answer incorrectly. As a nice contrast, try taking Zhang. Slightly hard to understand, but very sweet. Notes on quizzes.
If you're not ready to learn then don't waste your time, Sandi will eat you alive. She is strict on the pacing of her classes and doesn't slow down for stragglers, if you fall behind be prepared to work to catch up. There's lots of make-up tests and MathLab is a MUST but if you apply yourself she'll prepare you for MANY future math courses. EFFORT!
She checks you in by calling on you, so make sure you understand the material! The textbook she picked was not that clear, so make sure you have the internet or a friend who majors in Math. For me, this class was considered review of 2nd Year Algebra back in High School with the exception of a few things near the end. Otherwise, she's kind.
I am terrible at math. Nieto made it fun. Calls on you and keeps you involved. Don't take the class if you aren't ready to work. 5 unit classes are no joke. Failed the final but got a B because I had a 92.1 going into the final Nieto is nice and expects you to read your book and know material. She's also hot so motivation to come to class was easy
Good teacher, brutal course. Unless your an A student in Math, take 150A instead. Homework on My Mathlab every night. Very fast paced class, fall behind and you'll fail. She lectures in class but expects you to learn it online. 8 tests plus cumulative final, occasional take home quizzes. Can use online textbook or hardcover with code.
She is a tough teacher and makes you work for your grade. She is very helpful during office hours and enjoys students who work hard. Do all of her optional handout assignments (some of the problems are on tests). Read the chapters before coming to class. Not an easy A.
Great Teacher! helped understand alot of concepts. made some jokes and taught math in a unique way! would take again!
Sandi is the perfect Calculus teacher. The class was hard overall. However, she makes the material as clear as possible. She is considerate to the class, including constant review and knowledge checking to make sure the whole class is understanding the concepts. I loved her energy and loving spirit. I highly recommend her.
I have never in my life met a teacher with a bigger ego. Picks on students daily and makes fun of those who ask questions or answer incorrectly. Quizzes are given randomly and without notice, if you are sick one day and a quiz is given, you are out of luck. Her way is the right way and the only way, and she grades as such, even if you are right.
Good teacher, just study and know your stuff
Sandi was the hardest teacher I have ever taken. It was my first time taking calc and I failed like a champ. shes is clear and helpful but her test are really tough and shes a nazi when grading. only took her because shes hot.
Nieto is a solid teacher. She is clear in her lectures and explains things well. Don't take this class unless you're dedicated to spending 1-2 hours/night studying. The homework isn't mandatory or graded, but you have to get it because you copy answers from the HW directly onto the quiz. I got a B without doing any homework but did well on tests.
Throughout the semester it went from being a full class where you had to show up early to find a seat, to burly filling two rows with students. She is very sarcastic and makes you feel dumb if you are not correct. Tests are hard, so study! I received a 69% in the class "so close" as she put it! Would not take her again...
During lectures she likes to ask questions to get students involved and focused on material. Quizzes are based on homework and asks you directly copy the work from your homework, but she doesn't collect the homework. Her test aren't difficult if you show up to class everyday and know what you are doing. Overall great instructor.
Sandi was an awesome professor and I have never really been very strong in math but she helped me understand that I still can do well in a math class if I put in the effort. If you have a question she is there for you and if you ask for help she is very good about being helpful and answering any questions you may have.
I found her to be very receptive to feedback, which I wasn't expecting at all. She will occasionally slip up in her lectures, but when corrected will humbly admit she was wrong. She truly wants her students to succeed, which also explains her clear strict requirements. She won't let you skip classes, but she loves students who utilize office hours.
Came into Sandi's class not really understanding math, and Sandi did nothing to help me even though I asked her and expressed how difficult math is for me. I'd already taken 150A once, and I really didn't want to have to take the class three times but I could not take Sandi's class anymore. She can be rude to students.
Took for her 151 course and was dumbstruck by the amount of complexity she puts into ger teaching, even for Algebra 1. Instead of wlaking you through with a lecture she asks you how to do a formula even if you have no prior knowledge to it. She seems unfriendly at times was annoyed at me once for asking a question about the online homework.
Sandi is really funny and nice, and tries to get everyone to understand every step of a problem, even if it is something they should have learned in past classes. You can tell she really enjoys math and cares about her students. Decent amount of lectures, but easy to understand lectures.
Sandi is really good at teaching, but need at least some background in mathematics. You can't walk into her class simply taking a class for credit; rather, you need to be willing to learn and WANT to learn. You need to have a fairly strong mathematical foundation to do well, but she's good at keeping everyone engaged and letting no one fall behind.
She doesn't allow make ups on anything, regardless of your reason for missing class. I had a 90% on homework, but I missed one test and my overall grade was 11%. She doesn't help students when they're struggling and her lectures are fast paced, she also calls on random people just to see if they're paying attention and makes them feel stupid if they don't give the right answer.
Sandi is good in her lectures, she is clear and concise. Unfortunately, she tends to rush, and the amount of material covered combined with the amount of homework you need to keep on track makes the class very difficult. On top of this, she isn't clear what she wants for midterms, so in all, it's just a bad combination of things.
After taking a semester of math with Professor Nieto, I feel that my knowledge of the subject has increased substantially. This is not the class for you if you are attempting to complete an easy, required math course. If you are, however, planning to continue onto more advanced math courses (Math1A, B, C) then this course will be beneficial to you
She is the best math teacher I have ever had. She explains topics clearly and in a way that is easy to understand. Her class is mostly test-based, and homework is somewhat optional but she does give pop quizzes that are based on specific questions from the homework. Overall, her class was amazing and I would greatly recommend her class!
Sandi knows her stuff hands down, proofs even. She is a TOUGH grader, very strict in methods used. You'll learn what is expected and Get Blindsided by her tests. Practice hard problem, anything else will be worthless on a test... no I'm serious. She will move fast in lectures. Worked hard for sure. Priority class if taken! Good luck.
She won't put up with slackers! if you do the homework, read ahead, and study well for the tests, you will do fine. The only thing that really bothers me is that there is NO extra credit and she is a really tough grader! if you make an effort in her class she will help you, but if she can tell that you are putting in minimal effort--it will be hard
Sandi is a good teacher. She does, however, tend to be harsh on grading. She nitpicks at little details and will knock off points for small mistakes. Her lectures made things very clear for me and supplemented the book well. If you don't do the homework, expect to fail. Tests were very difficult. Overall it was a good and enjoyable class.
This was a tough class, but overall I enjoyed Sandi's teaching. Lectures are interactive and tend to go by quickly. If you can commit to the homework you should be fine although most of the class actually dropped/failed.
This is the hardest class I've ever taken. I missed one day all semester, but I only earned a D.
She was bad...
I really enjoyed her teaching style, you will have to work for a good grade but I will assure that you will learn. I sat in the front of her class and I definitely got the most out of her class. She's very aproachable and will help you if you ever need it. Would take again if she taught math 1a.
I was skeptical to take Sandi's class with some of the reviews I saw on here but I ended up not being able to get into any other math class and I don't regret it. Sandi is a very upfront and honest person she will also call on you in front of class, so be ready. I think she was a great teacher. I would take her again if she taught 150B!
Watch out, she likes order in her class, even if she says she doesnt. Wants her class to talk, not too much though, with loud voices, but not too loud. DONT EVER COME IN LATE ON DAYS WITH TAKE HOME WORK. She wont accept anything beyond the first minute of class, seriously. She doesnt know the root of any of the math but snaps at you for going ahed
This was a fun class. She would have us break into groups and work on the board. If you do the homework then the quizzes should be very easy. She was clear about what was going to be on the tests.
I think that Sandi is a very good teacher with good intentions for all her students. Come to class everyday or you WIIL fall behind.
The upside is no quizzes just homework and tests, the downside is the test are very hard. As other comments state you can expect to be called out at least once per class session which I disliked at first because I'm pretty introverted but I found it forced me to pay attention. Pro tip: DO ALL THE HOMEWORK it will bump your grade significantly.
Sandi is a good professor. The only advice I can give for this class is to actually TRY. There's a boy who sits in the back on his phone the whole time and she HATES him because he doesn't pay attention. If you actually try to understand, you WILL get a good grade. I am terrible at math and this is the first time I've gotten an A in a math class!!
She will call on everybody in the class at least once and expect you to know the answer every time. There'll be a lot of online/book homework. Also you need to study really hard problems for her midterms because her tests always have complicated problems that we don't go over. By the way she expects you to read the text book before she teaches you!
Sandi is a wonderful person and teacher who really cares about her students.
Are you in a math related field? TAKE HER CLASS. She will provide a learning environment which is rigorous and that will ensure that you are able to learn basic concepts in a way to where more difficult concepts become easier to understand. The class is difficult yes, but in the end it is worth it.
Condescending, as if she was too good to be teaching an elementary algebra course. There was a student who always participated fully, but was obviously exhausted (probably from work)but still made the effort to participate. He rested his eyes for a few seconds one day, she berated him in front of the class and kicked him out. He never came back.
Taken for Math 27.... I approached her in her office hours for supplemental one-on-one help but she seemed very displeased with my presence. I felt like I was intruding and she was never welcoming or understanding towards me. Ended up getting a B, but only because of MESA tutors. Not a welcoming teacher. Wish I'd taken a different.
Sandi is very accessible and approachable. Her lectures are interesting, and she makes a real effort to present the material in unique and relatable ways. She is a bit overly strict on grading in a difficult class (Calculus) compared to other instructors.
Extremely hard class, but she's the one to take it with. She can tell if you're not trying, and it will only make things worse. If you come everyday, actually try to understand, ask questions, and pay attention, she will like you and you'll do fine. Online homework every night, 6 exams total, a few quizzes. Take Sandi and get ready to buckle down!
I took Sandi for Math 151 my first semester at college and I was never good at math, this was my 3rd time taking algebra and thanks to her I finally found a passion for math. I've since taken her for 155, 25, and i'm about to take her for 1A. A lot of people find her intimidating but she really just wants to encourage everyone to put the effort in.
Shes not approachable for help. Overall terrible teacher to ask help from.
This teacher is not helpful or approachable. She is the worst teacher I ever had in my like. I would not recommend her. She would not give you any time to meet with her or listen to your reasonings.
She is the worst teacher I have had in my college experiment. She does not make her students feel comfortable. She will call on everyone at some point or another and embarrass you if you do not correctly answer.
Good instructor, she teaches clearly and will answer any questions you have. However, she's not very sympathetic towards the students who are struggling. If you already don't feel comfortable with math, don't take her class. She gives a lot of homework. It's mostly optional, but a lot of homework questions show up on pop quizzes and tests.
For all that is holy, do not take sandi. You will spend your nights crying and wondering what you can do only to find out she will not care and is not empathetic towards her students. She is condescending and unhelpful.
Her lectures are very interesting and engaging. She will often call on students during lectures. Do not feel intimidated she will guide you.
Sandi is a fantastic instructor. She does an amazing job of making math easy to understand. In class, she frequently brings up "little tricks" to help us more easily understand difficult/tricky concepts. Her tests and quizzes are always fair, and she does a good job of making them approachably and reasonably difficult. She grades very fairly.
I found that Sandi is very knowledgeable about the subject she teaches in, however she can be somewhat snobby if you don't understand something, and she certainly is one of the least empathetic teachers I've ever come into contact with. I don't think she actually cares about my goals or how important this class is to me.
Ms. Nieto is a dream to work with! She is very approachable and is able to answer questions well. She gave out daily reviews everyday but she told us about these quizzes at the start of the course. The class is FULLY dependent on tests and quizzes: as long as you study for tests and know your stuff, you'll do well in her class..
I was hesitant about choosing her class because she is known to randomly call students to complete a problem but that engagement & focus is what will help you succeed in her class MATH IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT! Stay engaged, use CONNECT MATH to its full capacity & let Ms. Nieto exercise your brain & critical thinking into the world of Algebra.
She knows what shes talking about. If you do all the quizzes and homework, you should be fine. You MUST show up to class and pay very close attention. She will teach the material, but only if you stay focused the whole time. The tests are VERY hard and she is tough grader. I got a B+ in her 150 class and am currently awaiting my grade for 156.
This professor was awful. When asked questions, she would get irritated if she had to repeat herself, and doesn't seem to understand she's a math teacher. If she had to explain a problem more than once, she would literally exhale in exasperation. Take math from ANYONE else.
I am terrible at math, and got a B in 150 over the summer, and currently have an A in 156 2 weeks before the final. School is expensive, pay attention, take notes, and pass the class. Don't waste your time, if you had a hard time in Sandi's class, it's probably not her fault. I passed without tutoring, or reading the book.
I loved her class! She's pretty forgiving of forgetting a little prereq knowledge. She provides a clear (tentative) schedule and is very organized. She makes a fun class environment (even online. kinda hard to do. just sayin) and has a bunch of little sayings to help memorization. She calls on people a lot and likes breakout room discussions.
Ms. Nieto was nice at times, but was extremely passive aggressive. She calls on everybody during her lectures, and If somebody was taking too long to respond she would be overly dramatic and rude. Could not answer questions without heavily sighing and almost insulting the students. Makes you feel dumb if you dont understand something. Tough grader
Nieto is a harsh grader, but it is math so I guess thats fair. Took math 150 this summer and had to drop- was tough to keep up and understand at such a fast pace but Im sure its better during a regular semester. She calls on you in class- so be ready. She can be harsh but its kind of funny. I thought she was cool- just a really tough class.
She is an extremely tough grader and will drop you from the class if you miss just two days of class. She is not very clear when it comes to giving directions or helping students find something on MLM. She also has a very condescending attitude towards students. I would not take her again.
Sandi grades in a way that you could get the correct answer on every question and still not pass. The grading is such a pain and not worth the time. Take anyone else. She also called out the class for cheating because most people did well on the weekly quizzes but very bad on the tests. She makes the tests so much more difficult then they need to b
Ms. Nieto is easily my favorite teacher at the JC. Its clear how much she cares about her students success by going above and beyond to help. She was happy to help me to understand older forgotten concepts from previous classes, and she is more than willing to help outside of class time if you ask. Terrific teacher who clearly loves what she does.
Her class was a bit intimidating at first, but after the first week, it seemed much easier. She calls on people randomly, but that is only because she wants to keep everyone awake. If you participate and ask questions, the class is much easier and more enjoyable. She is really easy to reach outside of class. Overall amazing person and professor.
Life changing math teacher that taught me that I was actually good at math. This course was amazing and I cannot recommend Prof Nieto Enough. Great teacher, really cares.
I absolutely LOVE Sandi!!! She's super funny which makes lectures very engaging, and she uses lots of cheesy tricks that make it way easier to understand and remember how to do things! She encourages everyone to participate and always makes it clear that there is no such thing as a dumb question. I absolutely plan on taking her again!!
Nieto is very good at explaining material and if you're struggling she comes up with ways to cater the material to your understanding
Professor Nietos is one of the best math teachers at the JC. if you do your homework and assignments, you will not have problems passing the class.
Great teaching ability and style. She goes pretty fast but I can catch up. There is a lot of material in general so be prepared. She wants office visits and it really helps passing or not, I couldn't ask for a better setup because I prefer it that way too. It's 4 year style teaching so listen rather than take notes, work out getting notes later.
Nieto teaches well and provides multiple helpful sheets in her class. She does not grade the homework she hands out but, instead she grades quizzes once a week which is done outside of class (like homework) and has 4 test throughout the semester, plus a final. She wants her students to succeed and it shows. Don't fall behind and you'll be fine.
Nice person, tough professor. Exams are structured so you have to turn in two parts of it at a time; if you get stuck on a question in part A, you're already screwed for rest of test. Not recommended if you're scared of being called on in class or are just taking math as grad req. Passionate and straightforward lectures though, albeit fast paced.
Homework optional. Excellent at explaining things from multiple perspectives to help your specific learning style. Great for learning fundamentals.
Awesome professor! I took the 4-day, 1.5 hr class (but she always ended class 15 minutes early). She assigns several online problems most days, along with take-home quizzes due every Tuesday. Be prepared to get called on once or twice every class. She's a fun person, and interacts with students a lot, which I think is great!
I liked Professor Nieto for this class, she clearly has a passion for teaching and explains material well. There are 4 tests and a final exam. Homework isn't graded and there's a take home quiz due each week. She teaches in a way that makes material easy to understand and calls on people at random. I would recommend her.
Get ready to be endlessly patronized when you ask questions, then, when nobody wants to ask questions anymore, she will patronize you for not wanting to ask any questions. Extremely apathetic, unaccommodating. She is funny, but it gets tired really fast. Office hours: after waiting 30 minutes for another student, she gave me 6 minutes.
Very considerate teacher; makes sure that all of the students know the material well. The exams are a lot easier than the hw, so if you can do that you should get an A on the exams. The exams are also very leniently graded. The exams actually cover what was covered in the homework, unlike what some professors do.
Nieto is an engaging professor who explains concepts clearly. Attendance is mandatory, but she calls on students randomly to keep everyone engaged. Using Unstuck study alongside the textbook is helpful for this class.
Great teacher, funny and engaging. Will require participation from students, which helps with understanding the content. Don't be fooled by the low homework load, you still NEED to study.
Great teacher; tests are easy and she doesn't grade harshly.
Sandi is an amazing and caring professor. Her lectures make sense and just click. She prepares us plenty for exams, shell tell you exactly what to expect and composes her exams based of homework/quizzes/lecture notes. She does not grade harshly, she'll attempt to give you credit for whatever you write down! She's super funny and nice and accessible
Sandi makes learning math fun. She never makes you feel stupid even when the answer to the question is right in your face. She does call on people for roll so you will be called on at least once every class to answer a question.
I liked Nieto's way of teaching; she's organized. However, her tests were much harder than the HW/study guide. I would retake her; be sure you have plenty of time to practice and study: her tests are thorough. If you pass her, you'll know your stuff. I had a full schedule + work and couldn't keep up with the depth of understanding she expected.
She is just great!! Class is super engaging, very knowledgeable, and she cares about her students and their success in this class! I have taken two classes with her so far, and I would take the rest of them with her if it were possible. Don't miss the opportunity of having a great, amazing, and super fun professor for any of your math classes.
Math1B is already hard enough as it is and Nieto does no favors making it easier. She barely knows the material herself and explains it in such a confusing manner (get ready to use Organic Chem Tutor). She's also weirdly passive aggressive. The only positive is that she offers some extra credit. Don't pick her unless there's no better options.
