Hard marker, not clear on expectations, constantly contradicts herself. Doesn't seem to know what shes talking about half the time. Do not take a class with Sandra if you can avoid it.
Sandra is spicccy (ya, i said it)
Sandra has shown a lot of improvement since last year, she seems to be trying harder to treat her students with respect, and ease up on her marking. She is still a very critical marker though, and her class is difficult.
While this is a hard course, it prepares you for the real world of PR. It is great that expectations are high. She prepared me for my job. You should be willing to learn, and if you are in PR this is a must take course. You will leave with confidence at the end of yr 2. She teaches the material and has high expectations. Great teacher.
Always contradicts herself by telling her students to be/act professional but then talks to them like children and does not show respect for them. Vague with instruction, not helpful at all. AVOID if you can.
Sandra does know what she's talking about and only wants to make you a better writer. Get on her good side early though, because she has no problem failing students.
WARNING! This prof is horrible and she changed ALL my individual marks so I would fail by 1%. She changed my peer eval mark too despite all my group members giving me more than 100%. I worked hard, she was not clear at all on her instruction and she is very cold hearted. Use caution if you must take her class but try to get out if you can.
I'm not one of those students who gets an A on everything, Sandra gave me a failing mark on assignments a few times - but it was because I deserved it. She is the best professor I have ever had, she will push you to be the best you can be. If you go into her class willing to learn, she will do anything to help you succeed. AWESOME PROF, take her!
Sandra has been a huge asset to my public relations experience at MRU. I think she is most definitely fair in her marking and only wants the best for her students. If you want to be a great writer, Sandra is the prof for you. Not only was she helpful in class, but she continues to assist me throughout my university career. I truly appreciate her!
Although this course is mandatory, choose a different professor if you can. No matter how skilled she is with the content, her delivery is unbearable. Course requirements are tedious but that is not the problem. She can come across really condescending and unreasonable which makes for an extremely poor learning environment.
Sandra Braun's emails are reason enough to choose a different professor. She is condescending, unapproachable and unable to take constructive criticism without complaining in a five paragraph email. She assumes nobody likes her and is constantly on the defence, and creates a tense learning environment.
I did well in this class but I feel it is despite Sandra's best efforts to force me into a lower grade. I felt that she was very defensive and unwilling to talk out issues with me. As a result of what I perceived to be a hostile environment, I felt cornered and unable to flourish. It is a shame because I enjoy writing.
Sandra is an amazing prof. She is very organized and beyond helpful!! If you like a prof that is always there to provide feedback, and a prof that ensures that you never fall behind, then she is the perfect prof for you!
Sandra failed every single person in her class on the first assignment of the semester. She gives little to no instructions and expects perfection. She tries too hard to make a boring subject fun, and consequently doesn't actually teach anything important. WORST PROF EVER!
Sandra works hard to make the learning environment in the classroom engaging and varied. She clearly lays out what she expects out of her students and gives multiple opportunities to correct yourself if it is not up to standard. Very willing to offer help and feedback and friendly to boot.
To clarify what the person said below, Sandra did not fail ppl on the first assign. She wasn't seeing good results, and instead of actually giving us the sucky grades we deserved, she let us resubmit it without penalty. What other prof would do that? She MEANS WELL, and is friendly. She is there if you need her help and will gladly clarify.
As per the comments below, there was an issue with the grading of the first assignment. Sandra had been more than accommodating for the individuals who fell short of the CLEAR assignment guidelines. Not everyone in the class received an F on the assignment but everyone was offered a rewrite. If you can't follow simple instructions, drop out of uni.
Sandra really stepped her game up this year. Not only was she extremely helpful and caring, but her marking was relatively easy. Other than the final, Sandra only had us write one quiz in class in addition to three (short) essays and a group project. Although I was nervous about taking a class with her, I have absolutely no regrets.
Although Sandra didn't seem to have the best reputation, she was a great prof. She wants her students to do well, is clear about what she wants, and let students re-write assignments when they didn't do well. She provided lots of review throughout the term and took feedback quite often to make sure students liked her teaching style. I loved her!
The class is not hard, it was an easy A. But the material does not add a lot of value with the teaching style Sandra provided. We filled in fill in the blank pages from our readings from a textbook instead of learning from the professor. We had to sign an attendance sheet otherwise we were given "tardies" or "absences."
Contrary to what I've heard about Sandy in the past, she is a sweet lady and made this class exciting and a great GPA booster if you attend!
Sandra is a good prof. She is more than fair. A bunch of people messed up the first assignment and she let them re-do for full marks, which is something that most professors would not have done. Her power points and worksheets made it easy to learn the content. The course material was dry but she really went out of her way to make it interesting.
Laid back, easy-going, but has standards. Very willing to help. Makes sure you understand and always willing to help. Textbook a must, unless you have someone willing to share -- but make sure you have it. I learned a lot more about theory than I thought I would. Exams are hand-written though -- a bit brutal. Tough grader, but fair.
Really helped make theory interesting. Learned more than I thought I would. Really tries to make things interesting. Sandra is a professor who wants you to succeed and will do her best to help -- but she has standards, so you do have to work for your grade. You need the textbook. Not hard to get an A if you show up and do the assignments.
I've taken a number of classes with her. She genuinely wants to see her students do well. She works really hard to make sure content is clear and makes lots of time to help students to ensure their success! Show up, participate and show that you want to be there and you won't have any problems.
Dr. Braun is a good prof in the sense that she makes you find the answers to your own questions, which makes you realize that you're more capable than you might think you are. She is condescending at times and makes lots of errors in her material, but she admits to most of them. Her course work and quizzes are pretty easy, and I learned a lot.
Great teacher! lots of quizzes but they go a long way in your education and are not really that hard. Marks in adequate time and grades not to harshly. Be prepared to study though. The material in the text books are important for the quizzes. Attendance is important.
I enjoyed Dr. Braun's class and found her funny at times.
So Sandra is a special case. She tends to be fine IF she likes a specific student; beware if she doesn't like you. The actual class is really easy if you show up and complete the assignments. She often will mark quizzes COMPLETELY wrong and you'll have to email her to inform her - receiving a snippy and rude response. Not good but not bad???
I found Sandra to be rude, condescending and defensive. She created hostile situations out of nothing and refused to take responsibility but rather blamed it on the student - in my case this resulted in her yelling and calling me names. Unprofessional to say the very least. This prof made me consider dropping out of a program I love. AVOID!!!!!
If you genuinely hate yourself, you will take this class. If that is the way you feel than fine, if not; avoid her like the plaque. Rude, condescending, bully, not compassionate or helpful. She makes you want to drop out of the entire program, not to mention the 30000000 emails you should be prepared to receive. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
At many times, I found Dr. Braun to be incredibly condescending. She didn't create a very welcoming environment as someone to go to for questions. I would avoid if you could!!
I have never experienced such a rude professor. She often yelled at and belittled students in front of the entire class. Witnessed her make racist comments more than once. The lectures are boring and hard to pay attention too - good thing she just reads off the power points anyways. Paid $75 for a book I never even opened, still got an A.
Braun did not practice respect in her classroom. Questions were quickly shut down and laughed at. I received very little feedback on assignments making it hard to improve. If you want a good grade, try and get on her good side. Overall a negative experience.
Dr. Sandra Braun showed blatant disrespect for students in the classroom. She didn't have rubrics for assignments, laughed at questions asked during class time, would tell student's she didn't have faith in them to complete the semester, etc. Avoid at all costs. In seven years, she is the worst prof I've ever had and the first prof I have reviewed.
I get the feeling that Sandra is a caring and helpful teacher in person, but online that is not the case. A lot of technical issues this semester, and when coming to Sandra for help she was usually not helpful or understanding. Do not recommend her for online courses.
Dr. Braun was a good professor. I found that i did not use the textbooks I bought nearly as much as I expected due to the information being available in powerpoints. In exams I saw that there was often information I did not remember covering in readings or in class. Feedback on assignments was good. Honestly not too much to complain or rave about.
Sandra was mediocre at best. I found she didnt cover CP style nearly as much as she should have compared to other profs, and her exceptions were unclear at times. I found her to be a tough grader and rarely gave constructive feedback that was actually helpful. It could have just been because we were online, but Id avoid her classes if you can.
Very frustrating class. Unorganized, unprepared and inconsistent. Assignment outlines do not match lecture or dropbox information. (Ex. Assignment outline will ask for 3 examples and dropbox says submit 6-8 examples). Spelling and grammar errors CONSTANTLY in quiz instructions, emails, blackboard announcements etc. Lectures made up on spot
sandra makes me hate class. she is confusing in her instructions and contradicts herself multiple times per class, and even though she teaches writing classes, everything she hands out is riddled with spelling and grammar errors. she is one of the sassiest and most condescending people I've ever met. i genuinely feel like she's ruining my education
Sandra shares student work without permission. Will belittle and embarrass the student as the entire class is encouraged to call out mistakes. She is incredibly inconsistent, and rude. Do not feel as though I am receiving a quality education, afraid I wont have the tools for a career after grad. Only prof available for 4 years for PR writing.
This prof is so painful! She is very boring and never even remembers what we are doing in class. I didnt find her disrespectful or rude but I found her very self absorbed and bland. I would take a different prof if possible but if not you can still get through the course fine its just brain numbing.
Dr. Braun is one of a kind. Ive had many professors and have taken many courses at various institutions, but she stands out. Bends over backwards to help students understand the material and she couldnt be more clear with expectations- something that is lacking in other classes. She is fair, and helps you build a solid foundation for writing.
Dr. Braun was a great prof! She is always available to students to help and her instructions were very clear! Her assignments greatly improved my writing skills! If you ever have any questions just ask her and she will answer them very well! Also super flexible on deadlines as long as you contact her ahead of time.
Sandra is a hard marker. Your work should always be excellent to do well in her class. It is unfair to say that she doesnt prepare you for assignments because she goes over even the smallest details. Pay attention in class, double, triple check your work, and youll succeed. Extend patience and communicate politely to her, and youll be fine.
Sandra is callous, condescending and discouraging when it comes to her students building their confidence with professional writing. I understand that applied writing can be a challenging class to teach (who wants to be a grammar nazi?). However, Sandra will take it to a personal and professionally unacceptable level. AVOID if at all possible.
Sandra acts like she is sweet, but she really is just rude and passive-aggressive. She is the only prof for Applied Writing at MRU, so. good luck? Oh, and so boring to listen to and finds a way to answer your question for two minutes but somehow doesn't end up actually answering it. Then is offended when you say it's not clear.
Sandra was a very self absorbed and boring prof. She did not know how to use the technology causing lots of confusion over the semester, her responses to questions were also very blunt and confusing, and her feedback was bland. I also watched her speak over our guest speaker many times, and cause arguments.
Sandra was the worst professor I have ever experienced. She is rude to students and uses her power as a teacher over her students. She discourages her students and is not a good teacher at all. Take her class and you will cry!!
Sandra is a great prof and is very understanding. She works with you on what you need help with and her class was very useful! I learned a lot in her class.
Sandra has to be one of the most unorganized professors I have had at MRU. She is constantly changing due dates and contradicting herself which makes it hard to organize my semester as a student. She will knock off a big chunk of your grade for simply mistakes and definitely assigned wayyy too much work for the amount of time we had to complete it.
Sandra is not a nice person. She can be very condescending and rude... she gives a lot of homework but is SO disorganized and often loses your work, changes due dates, forgets, etc. Nightmare of a teacher!!!!
Sandra is extremely condescending and rude to her students. She will berate you and talk down to you if you ask her for help, steer clear from her if possible
Awful teacher, extremely hard marker, extremely condescending, and does not know the material that she teaches us. She might as well take the class with us since she has no idea what is going on or what she is talking about.
Terrible teacher. RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't understand how Sandra is still teaching at MRU. I have never met such a condescending individual in my life. She does not have any idea of what she is teaching and on top of that, her attitude is terrible.
This is the worst professor I have ever had in my life. Mount Royal needs to get rid of her ASAP
I have never been more discriminated against by a professor. Sandra is such a bigot I do not know how she was let into Canada. She sets unfair standards for her assignments that is contradictory to her lecture slides.
just run away
You might as well be in kindergarten
Shes just an idiot
This is the most disrespectful teacher I have ever had. Not only did over half of her students fail the midterm but she told everyone who failed to look into withdrawing. She did this in an email to everyone saying she was proud of how the test went. In class she will call on people and be rude and disrespectful if they answer wrong.
Terrible human and a terrible teacher. She has no respect for her students and it is disgusting to see the way she interacts with us. She has not once been nice to anyone unless you absolutely suck up to her. We all pay to be in her class regardless she likes us or not. She must treat us with respect and stop talking to us like we are less than her
Gross
racist. homophobic. transphobic. If she does not like you she will fail you. avoid her at ALL COST.
Literally the worst professor I've ever had. Read the reviews, every bad one is correct. So condescending and has no idea what she is teaching. Plug her work into Grammarly and it's all red-lined. Avoid at all costs.
If you are respectful, eager to participate, open to feedback and interested in the program, you will learn tangible writing skills and how to create PR content. I have found her content very simple and easy to digest yet still interesting and teaching me new things; it is hard not to get an A. She genuinely cares for students.
Sandra is one of my favourite profs in the PR program Always available to give extra help if needed has a "No student left behind" attitude & is always willing to give options to attend class online and lets you know what went on during class if you could not attend. She cares for her students & if you put in the work you will do well in her class
Great instructor! she always gives good feedback and makes you a better writer! always make sure to aks for help if needed and she will give it to you!
RUN!!!!!! She is a huge bully, does not care if she offends you. Tells students to not come to class when they are her favourites.
TERRIBLE
Sandy is very condescending towards students and cannot take criticism. She goes out of her way to embarrass and make fun of students who answer a question wrong or contradict her. She very obviously plays favourites and if she doesn't like you you will know. Not a hard marker, but gives a lot of lab work which is not important to passing the class
An okay prof, not as bad as the reviews let off.Content is a bit scattered, criticisms isnt always constructive.Classes are helpful & useful.Hard marker but is open to extra credit .For the recent spark of bad reviews there wasnt mutual respect amoung students and her.Since she is the only prof in PR writing, have an open mind. She is not that bad.
If you have good attendance, participate, and follow the instructions/rubric well for assignments, you will do well. Sandra is far from being a good prof, but she is manageable as she is the only prof who teaches this mandatory class. She does often answer student questions in a rude/condescending tone which can be very frustrating.
Responds to emails even at 3 am, and gives constructive feedback. She's a bit misunderstood. I'd take the recent reviews with a grain of salt. Though she's a hard marker, show up to class, do your homework, and communicate with her, and you will do okay. The class is applied writing, there's not much a prof can do to make it entertaining.
She wants to help and takes the time and offers to do so.
TERRIBLE!!!!!
Boring lectures, Unhelpful when you email her, a lot of assignments- not a hard grader since this is not a hard class and its mainly common knowledge but she made it horrible by being meticulous. Takes attendance and expects us to be there but isn't always there herself and does last min google meet. get on her good side
Extremely scattered - no clear rubric therefore expects students to drop other responsibilities to jump through hoops for her assignments she throws around. Extremely meticulous and doesn't respect students' time by providing a clear syllabus. Unhelpful when we are collectively confused by her unorganized teaching style. Good person, bad prof.
Yes, Sandra can seem passive-aggressive, my best advice would be to respond to her words not her tone. She knows what she's talking about and provides templates for assignments. Her quizzes are easy if you are there for lectures, and keep track of what she hands out. The peer editing criteria is confusing but luckily it doesn't count for much.
shes an easy marker, and rubrics are very clear you would have to try to fail her class. yes she might be passive aggressive at times but she gives lots of feedback and practice. no group project, no final, no textbook. just show up and you will do well. if you cant deal with her just grow a pair and get over it.
the worst prof ever, if you can save yourself the stress and choose a different prof
She isn't very empathetic and HATES cell phones for some reason, but she isn't that bad. If you don't go to class you won't do well. Almost every class she will have some form of in-class activity that goes towards a participation mark and even if you do all of them, she will dock marks if you aren't actively paying attention in the lecture.
Sandra will be your 13th reason why. Avoid at all costs.
The worst professor I have ever taken a class with. Sandra needs to get taken off of tenure.
Sandra is the most condescending professor I have ever come across, she can always find a way to make you feel dumb. It's a shame that PR students have to have her as a professor in order to graduate. Every good rating you see here is clearly from her so please disregard it.
Sandra is the most condescending professor at MRU. I'm surprised she's still employed there. She's very passive-aggressive and has a not my problem attitude, She isn't empathetic towards students. Makes very negative and out-of-line comments to students on grading and classwork. Told us on the first day nobody was getting an A+ in this class.
Don't bother sending an email to ask a simple question, she will respond in the most condescending way possible and make you feel as stupid as she can. Every. Single. Interaction I had with her, I always wished I wouldn't have bothered. She is genuinely a stuck-up woman, and I'm very sympathetic to you if you're in her class.
Sends 300 emails a day with random information. Unorganized. Condescending. Bad communicator. Unclear. Grades don't add up. No feedback. No grading criteria. Grades you however she wants. She is a bully and needs to be taken off tenure. Students need organization. We have other things going on.
Sandra Braun unfortunately seems to not want her students to succeed. She is one of the most condescending and unprofessional profs in emails; even when she teaches two full classes on email professionalism. Ensure you document every peer review you do in her class, because she will claim you have not done any. She's made me lose all motivation.
Was excited to start her class but unfortunately she hates to see her students succeed
Quite literally the worst professor at MRU inside and out
Great Prof. Attendance super important. Will always clear up any misinformation, provides good feedback.
Be ready to make it appear as though this class is the #1 priority in your life above all other aspects or she will not like you.
Honestly, don't let Sandra's rating scare you, I expected the worst going into her class based off of past reviews but Dr Braun proved to not be terrible. She's a respectable teacher with clear instructions and grading expectations. This wasn't a diffcult class as long as you show up for the class lectures and partcipate when needed.
Just no. Sandra is very condescending and does not provide clear feedback on why she is docking marks. Avoid at all costs.
She is very passive aggressive and will make you feel dumb lol. She's not someone you can get help from, you'll mostly be on your own to figure things out. So much written work which is expected but she marks really hard and her feedback doesn't always make sense. Attendance us also mandatory and the classes feel painfully long.
