TERRIBLE TEACHER. DOES NOT FOLLOW THE BOOK. ONLY HER OPINIONS. SHE'S TEACHING AMERICAN HISTORY AND CONSTANTLY FORGETS AND STARTS TALKING ABOUT CUBA. MULTIPLE CHOICE QUIZZES ARE TERRIBLE. STUDENTS STUDY FROM THE BOOK AND SHE GRADES THEM ACCORDING TO WHAT SHE THINKS HAPPEN IN HISTORY, HER OWN OPINION
TERRIBLE TEACHING PROCEDURES!! Her lectures are boring. A good teacher lectures - she reads. Her quizzes are confusing. A student wrote two journal entries and got a C. I wrote 15 journal entries and got a B minus ?

She is the nicest person but a TERRIBLE teacher. Has no business teaching AMH. Not knowledgeable. She doesn't lecture, she reads (and digresses about Cuba). Don't ask her anything, she won't know the answer. You just can't figure her quizes out, neither does she. She's willing to help, but just doesn't cut it. A total waste of time. DON'T TAKE HER.
I had her for both history classes and it was excellent. She offers you a ton of extra information (handouts) but she doesn't test you on that stuff only from the book and her notes. Her class does require extensive note taking, but you learn a lot. I got an 'A' in both classes. Journal is easy, you just gaotta make an effort.
She is very easy. If you do your quizzes you'll be fine. I recommend her if you want to take both Of AMH classes.
She is nice and the classes are good. But she gives you a lot of work, a quizz in each class and a journal to keep, besides the exams! Although you learn a lot!
she is the best professor i ever had, she made her classe verry easy, and understandable. I had her for enc0020, 0021, and AMH 2010 she is great. some student come to school, and don't do anything they expected to pass the class. that's not fair. you have to work had if you want to earn.

This professor is not a History professor, she was stuck with this class cause of short staff. She stands in the front and speeds read through her material. I has Ms. Castillo as my English professor and American History professor. You cannot find a better teacher at Miami Dade College. I highly recommend taking her. She give you a lot of work, which is what you should expect as a college student. Her reputation as a great teacher is evidenced by how quickly her classes become full.

There is no reason to hate this teacher. She is loud and very animated but stays on-topic the whole class. She gives power-point presentations of the chapters and gives you a lot of time to take notes. Everyone in Dade is just f*cking retarded.
Amazing teacher, helps you out no matter what. I took her for two semesters ENC0020 and ENC0021. I honestly learned a lot from her, and she is a lot of fun!
She's an ok teacher. Her interest level in the subject is good but she's hard to understand at times. Take notes and pay attention. That's all you really need. You really don't need the book. Rarely used. Good luck.

Not a very good teacher. Loved History before and I swear my IQ dropped. I listened to her tell useless stories, she grades unfairly, and chats randomly from her POV. NOT RECOMMENDED TO TAKE

This is the worst professor at Miami Dade. Doesn't know how to teach. Very rude. Exams are tricky and impossible to answer. Never says when exams are due. avoid her.
The class is easy because her exams are take home. But even at two weeks before the semester ending, she still hasn't given us our grades. Very unorganized... She always goes off on a tangent when she talks about useless stuff and she can't even keep track of her class.
Great teacher. If you pay attention in class, you'll very likely get an A. She's very understanding if you have trouble completing assignments on time. Highly recommended. She's always available and has extended office hours. I found that people who don't like her class very likely don't like to write and are really conservative.
She is a mess! I never learned my midterm grade, she never brought back assignments we did, and her quizzes are written in English that is almost incomprehensible. Her quizzes ignore the textbook entirely, and she often goes off on tangents that take away from class. Also she missed 5 classes in a twice weekly class.
I like History I like her as a person, she's interesting. As a prof though not the best, she's a disorganized email pack-rat! Doesn't say when stuff is due. My friend didn't get his/her quiz grade 'til the very END ! The last quiz was supposed to be a review for finals was sent at the last minute. Her lectures are rather dull and drag on.

She's very nice and knows her subject well. She's very disorganized and her lectures are usually all over the place. Bring a camera or a camera phone to take pictures of the powerpoint slides because she talks WAYYY TOO FAST!!!! But she is there to help you and gives extra credit.

This teacher flys through material at lightning speed leaving no time to write notes. Although she is smart and interesting, the class is tough due to her lack of organization. She hands back grades when it is too late to drop. Rarely uses book. Tells you to read it, but without her notes- you cannot pass her class!
super easy class! if your taking her for AMH2020 slack is the best way to describe it. take pictures of the powerpoints because she doesnt send them to you and youll be fine cause tests are take home which makes it even easier! she also teaches ENC1101 &ENC1102 which were just as easy i passed all classes with an A!
Don't take this class with this professor! She SPEEDS through the powerpoints, her tests are super ambiguous and tricky, and she makes fun of students for their answers on tests! Super disorganized.. doesn't use different powerpoints, she has one powerpoint with 2,000+ slides in it. Don't take her, really.
Prof. Castillo, If you are ready this please remember that this isn't Cuba and not everybody in miami is cuban, therefore not everybody cares about it. Yes, she only talks about Cuba and is very disorganized. She doesn't even know where she's standing. Don't take her unless you want to waste your money.
This professor is a MESS! She constantly makes excuses about grading the tests, so you basically get your exam grades by the end of the semester, when it's too late to drop. Her lectures are a mess, and she often gets lost in her own thoughts. She is obsessed with Cuba, and will bring up a discussion about the island WHENEVER possible. Avoid.

Show up to class,take pictures of the powerpoint slides with your phone and study! lectures are very interesting if you pay attention. Its a passable class you ust have to be smart about it. Shes a bit unorganized but you just have to put up with it. If you want to pass history take her. Shes the easiest teacher there is.
Her class is tricky but it's not too bad. She will definitely help you when you ask. Just take pictures of her slides (because she does go fast) and study them. She tells you how to study and what she's looking for and if you do it you'll pass. I got an A!
This teacher is not bad but not great. She is not organized and gives test grades late or not at all. Sometimes funny but tries to hard. the midterm and final are not difficult but does require a lot of memorization. overall a good class just a bit frustrating.

She shouldn't be an English teacher. She's super nice and cares about her students but going to this class was a joke sometimes we wouldn't even do anything. GRADES: There were like two grammar tests and we would always write essays. Not a bad class to take.
I enjoyed her class. She is super nice and helpful. You write everyday then she returns the essays with corrections so you know what you did wrong, which is very helpful. She is not perfect but I would highly recommend her.

I highly suggest you take history with another professor. She talks very fast and flies through the material. Her tests are really hard and are fill in the blank. Not a lot of extra credit is given. Attendance is mandatory. Killed myself studying for her tests and I didn’t pass. TAKE IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE!

She is awesome! Everyone who thinks she is horrible is lying. She is passionate about History. She gives you a study guide for the midterm and the final and you have to memorize the terms and then you pick some out of the ones she puts on the board and write what they are. She encourages you to learn and her class is fun! I would take her again.
Notice that most of the negative reviews are written by those who can barely compose a concise sentence. Yes, Professor Castillo is disorganized and tends to move quickly but if you reach out to her she is ALWAYS willing to help. Take an interest, snap pics of her powerpoints, ask questions and you will pass.

I spent all class on my phone and listening to my ipod. Just take pictures of her notes and study for each test and you'll be fine. Also gives a lot of extra credit.

Love her. Pay attention, take pictures of the slides, and listen. That's all you need to pass. Midterm and Final are tough though so make sure you study the review she gives you. Gives a couple take home tests as well as in class tests.
MDC:Kendall.This Professor is very easy and laid back.Lets you take pictures of the powerpoints.Gives TONS of extra credit.Lets makes up test if you missed it as long as she didnt hand back the test then you are fine.6 tests including midterm and final, which she send you a review on.Take her you won't regret it.
She a very kind teacher. She also cares for her students grades. If extra credit is needed she will give it to you. Also most of the workload is during class. Her class was honestly fun to attend.
Nicest teacher I've had all semester! She really cares for her students & if you show interest & respect you will get the same in return. She is a fair grader and understanding if you couldn't turn in an assignment on time, but that doesn't mean to abuse either. She gives back every essay to give us a chance to correct our mistakes. History was just tests, no little assignments. English was a few essays, and easy poems. Took ENC1102 for mini term, and she dropped the last 5pg research paper after all. LOVE HER !!!

Very passionate and funny professor. She has such a bubbly personality and gives amazing lectures. She does most of her lectures by powerpoint and lets you take pictures of the slides. Reading the book will help tons. Her tests are difficult so study for those, there is a midterm and final. Overall, great professor!
All of her lectures are through powerpoints and she's more than willing to go back or explain any questions you might have, along with funny stories to keep you interested. Sends reviews through email before every test and that helps a lot. Can be a little messy and takes some time to responds to emails but gets to know her students which is nice
At first, I absolutely loved her. She's funny & entertaining, gives great feedback on assignments and super helpful. However, towards the middle of the semester, she stopped showing up to class. She made appointments to talk about grades and never showed to that either. I have NO CLUE where my grade stands. It'd be great if she responded to emails.

Prof. Castillo is a very interesting professor. Her lectures are very interesting and you won't get bored. She does miss some days which is unfortunate. She can go very fast through the slides so take pictures of them and write it down later. Study with the notes for the test and you'll do great.
I have no idea why she has a 3.3 rating. This woman is full of energy and because of that her lectures keep you so tuned in to what she is teaching. She teaches you things other professors wont. She is, top down, the best teacher I've ever had. Oh and as for her tests, so easy. EXTREMELY EASY . You'll think it's unreal.

This professor is the worst history professor I've ever had. our of the entire 4 month semester, she only covered about 30 years of history. All of which is based on race issues. Throughout the course, she made it very clear that modern politics was a big part of the class. If you actually want to learn about history, steer clear of this one.
When she doesn't get overly emotional and political she is a okay lecturer. But she has no control over the classroom during class discussions and lets students get yelled over. She also ignores many important areas of American history and seems to focus only on racial matters.

This professor is thus far one of the most irresponsible professors at mdc. She doesn't send the reviews on time. Doesn't show up to class and shes very unorganized. Week of finals neither did she send us the review OR show up to class! Book is not necessary because you will be inundating your camera roll with her power points.

There are 4 quizzes, midterm and final. However, that can change. I would show up to class or make a friend because she does not send out the power points.

She's very unorganized. Misses class a lot. The reviews she always says she's going to send them in advanced and she never does she normally always sends them the day before the exam. You need to keep track of your grade because she's known for messing up peoples grades. Getting in touch with her is a mission never replies to emails.
She is a very nice lady and teaches well, but her powerpoint are long and she goes through them fast. There is barely homework, just tests. Her class is not very structured, but she takes into account what works best for the class.
Great professor who knows the subject very well. Gets students involved in her lectures and makes the topics relevant. She goes over the time for class sometimes. She likes when you takes notes on with pen and paper but she switches the slides on her power point fast so dont be scared to ask her to go slower. Easy A if you pay attention.

I recommend taking her. The class is simple. Consists of 4 quizzes + midterm & finals. She has the funniest stories. Her lectures are great but make sure to take pics of every slide of powerpoint. She does not use Blackboard, she sends all docs thru emails. She has issues sending emails for the syllabus and study guides, so dont wait up on those.

Professor Castillo is by far one of my favorite professors. Dont listen to other student who complain about her, its college, nothing is handed out free. Read, pay attention and study and youll pass. Shes extremely knowledgeable about History and the lectures and always fun to listen too. Take her, you wont regret it. Shes amazing !!
She teaches very well and knows her stuff. Just be ready to keep up with her quick pace. Mostly everything is based off her powerpoints, take notes however possible to keep up with all the information. (laptop, digital recorder, notepad, ect.) Overall, she is very fair and cool
She truly is an amazing history teacher, she knows what she is talking about and has a passion for it. She makes all her classes engaging and fun. A class I definitely would take again with her and a class I looked forward too.
The professor isn't a bad person but she is incredibly disorganized. Her exams were full of spelling errors and mistakes which made us always have to revise exams. She doesn't respond to e-mails, you literally won't know what grade you have in the class until the end. The hardest part of the exams are trying to figure out what she's even asking.

Stopped lectures and any form of teaching after changing to remote learning. Many spelling and wording errors in online exams,makes it hard to answer. Did not know grade until end of course. Pretty good professor. Her lectures are pretty entertaining too. Just a few tests about every 2 weeks, all of which use scantrons that she makes you but yourself. But her lectures are very long. Lots of writing/typing if you take notes.

She's a sweet woman, but she will never ever answer your email. She will also lose tests (She lost our midterms). Her extra credits consist of taking DNA tests and sharing your results in class which is so weird to me. Make sure you keep every single test you get back so she doesn't mess up your grading, otherwise she will grade you wrongly.

This class is super easy. She does not require attendance and everything is online. There were certain times in the middle of the semester where she would disappear for two weeks and then assign work the week after. other than that this class is pretty easy.
I took this class online and I thought it was going to be the hardest class ever, but I was completely wrong. This class was so easy, it just to read powerpoints, then the quizzes, and that's it. She also will give you extra credit opportunities. (No lockdown browser)

This is a really easy class just take notes and study the PowerPoints and youre going to pass. She gives extra credit which it nice. She gives one assignment and unit test every two weeks. Super easy class
She is an amazing professor! She created a group chat and responded within minutes 24/7 did not matter how early or late. Test are based off power points and not proctored. Does not give a lot of homework at all! A few test and easy discussions. She is super understanding and explains lessons very well, would definitely recommend taking her class
She is a very friendly to everyone and is very knowledgeable about the subject she teaches. However, she is very difficult to reach outside of class. She suggests that you email her if you need help, but it is highly unlikely that she will answer. Your best bet to contact her is through WhatsApp (if she gives you one). Her tests are also very easy.
People giving her a bad rating are the most lazy people ever. Her class was so easy. Her tests are non proctored and her discussions were very straight foward. She wasnt very good at replying at emails and grading the discussions, but other than that its a easy class
I enjoyed this class. She is very knowledgeable on the subject and kind. I did not have to purchase a book. For her tests she provides everything you need to prepare however I wish she would give more time to complete. She gives a Friday and Saturday. No homework which is amazing!! I recommend taking her class!
Shes so nice!! She might not give extra credit but she gives you allot of time to complete the test and answers all the questions you might have.
the tests were a little hard, all the grade is based on the tests, she gave ec and one hw but none were included in the final grade, everything is off the powerpoints. Pay attention to class, otherwise the tests will be harder. She was really nice and knows a lot about the subject.
Professor Castillo is one of the best history teachers I have ever had. She actually makes the class enjoyable and entertaining. Most of the class grade is based on unproctured tests which she posts the power points for. As long as you review them, you will pass.
she is very sweet , but her class is a mess. She is expecting you to take an exam every week , and she doesn't like to give extra credit. Her exam is extremely difficult because she asks really specific questions about the material that she coovered.

This class was only graded through tests that were based on the powerpoints she provided. She is extremely caring and her lectures were very informative. She prepares you for the civics test and gives plenty of resources. Super easy A.
she is very kind but DAMN she talks A LOT even when class is over. also, you MUST keep remindering her to do stuff. for example (class is over, i cant see my wrong answers on exams, and can you unlock the questions on the exam so i can go to my previous question) it's just annyoing at this point that I AS A STUDENT have to remind the teacher
Professor Castillo is how I wish all Miami Dade College professors were. She doesn't ask that you give her an arm and a leg, just your attention, a short HW assignment, and a quiz every week. If every professor were like her, I'm sure we would have more graduates. Grateful to have had her as my Prof.
This professor has a tendency to teach her version of history. Many things throughout the course turned out to be wrong when further research was made. If you end up taking this proff, use the slideshows she gives you to answer questions on quizzes. She isnt looking for the truth, shes looking for you to agree with her.

She is very disorganized and did not grade the hw until the last day of the semester although the class constantly reminded her to do her job.

Truly the worst professor I have had at MDC. ZERO feedback, grades are inputted last minute, no responses to any student emails. It's an easy class if you HAVE to take it, but I cannot stress how bad she was. Not once did she release class on time, always keeps talking well after it is over. The lack of organization is ridiculous. BE AWARE that your messages, emails will not be answered. Will not put your grade until the very last day once you dont see her anymore. I never rate professors but I needed to give a warning. She was rude and condescending. She graded my assignments until the last minute and completely lowered my grade over small things. She gets easily agitated if you don't say "here" the second she says your name for attendance. She's completely unorganized. GET ANY OTHER PROFESSOR!

Do not take her class. Im still taking her course at the moment, and I believed her 4/5 star.She doesnt check her emails, grammatically her tests are wrong, (im an A student and im having a difficult time with her class) Take another Proffessor. My experience with Castillo was nothing short of a nightmare. As of writing this review it is the last week of the spring semester and she has still not graded any of the homework. She doesn't reply to emails, doesn't grade the homework, and she puts no effort into making her tests (they're questions copied off her PowerPoint).
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She does not answer any emails and when you bring it up to her or any questions you have regarding homework or the actual class, she gets VERY offended. LOVES to dismiss students when they bring any issues to her attention and does not grade tests or homework fairly.
She's a tough grader and will subtract many points for the tiniest mistake. Her annotations give no explanation for the grade you got. Her classes never end on time. The answers on her quiz are inputted wrong, and she only fixed a few of them when confronted about it. If you take the quiz with just the powerpoint in front of you, you'll pass.

Terrible professor. She nitpicks and doesn't even grade until the very last days of the semester- literally graded in everything in one day. Also, she makes it very clear what her political opinion is- unnecessary and awkward for everybody. She doesn't time well, will chat for majority of the class sometimes, and keeps you past her lecture time.

Great professor, amazing and funny lectures, but does not know how to use Canvas for the life of her. Doesn't answer emails and grades assignments on the last day of semester so you have no idea what grade you have.
You are not able to contact her after class, and if you call her out during class time, she will make an excuse. She will not grade any of your assignments (apart from exams because those get graded automatically and get input) you will NOT see the grade until the last day of the semester. Do NOT take if you want to pass a history class! :)
Stay away from this professor if you plan to take a US history class here. She grades the homework at the end of semester and she's pretty disorganized. However, it is pretty easy if you use the powerpoint to do the tests cause the tests aren't proctored. She needs to do better.

This class was like walking up a snowy mountain just to meet the real Buddah. I gained a new a profound and easy to understand view on current events balanced with easy to do homework and tests.
You will not know what your grade is she doesnt really grade stufff the only thing youll see grades for will be test and quizes other than that no matter how much you ask you wont be able to see or know your grade.
