Great professor! She really knows her stuff. Easy class, just read the book. Her lectures are also very entertaining.
She's definitely one of the most animated professors I've ever had-- you don't need to go to class to do well. Pretty difficult tests, EASY online quizzes, moderately easy HW. Nice lady, decent lecture, obnoxious sense of humor. Take it for an easy grade!
Dr. Conelly is my favorite teacher at RIT. She is so helpful to even the dumbest of students, and her unique teaching style makes class actually worth coming to. There's never a dull moment in her classroom, and you should do anything to get into her as a teacher. And, let's face it, she's got a great pair of.......assets.
Connelly seems like a really cool and fun teacher in the beginning but as you go through her course and now that i have been in her lab she tends to get confusing. Her grading is very strict and inconsistant. My friend and i are taking the class and we had the same answer for a question i got the question right and he got it wrong
By far the worst teacher I have ever had, never has a teacher been so inconsistent with grading, teaching, and examination. What teacher gives review sheets with nothing on there that is actually on the tests, she did this not once or twice, but throughout the entire year! And forget going to see her for help, she is down right rude and not helpful
She is EXTREMELY helpful if you see her in her office, and is always willing to help...but her tests are VERY difficult. No matter how much you review, it's never quite enough. The questions are all multiple choice, but they're really obnoxious multiple choice. However, with enough review griding, you are pretty much guaranteed an A.
she's pretty intense and her tests can get hard, but everything I learned ... I really learned. Prof. Connelly & S. Morgan are a great team!
Generally a good teacher. Uses iClicker questions as bonus points. Questions on exams directly from lectures, but there are some that require text reading, so do both. Would take classes with her again. Fair class.
Good professor. Very helpful when questions are asked. Uses clicker points for extra credit and sometimes hands out worksheets to those in class for extra credit. Easy homework and quizzes. But her tests and homeworks are graded inconsistently hard. Be prepared for tough, more in depth test material then covered in lecture.
One of my favorite professors. She is very helpful and friendly, and keeps the class interesting
Fun prof, test are fairly easy if you pay attention and go to class
Okay, where do I begin? Not only are the tests difficult, but she expects you to memorize the material for multiple chapters. No curve, No rounding off. Basically, if you have a photographic memory you set for the class, if you don't, you aint. Oh and she laugh at her own jokes, gets old fast.
Very energetic and keeps class interesting. I really enjoy having her. Tests are somewhat challenging but if you study you'll be fine.
This professor is awesome, I'm not sure why the guy below me, the one who doesn't seem like he should be in a college, rated her so low. She helps outside of class and is genuinely kind and interesting to talk to. If you do the review worksheets and apply yourself you should do well in the class. Recitation and review times are also available.
Gen Bio I-III: She is nice, and super goofy; however, her slides contain only the bare bones of the information you are required to know. Her first exam is always easy. The next two she pulls stupid questions that you have never seen in the book or her notes. 3 exams + final, drops the lowest. Does not round letter grades 89.999 = B.
AMAZING! She's very helpful and does her best to make class fun. However class isn't easy, taking notes from the book helped me a lot. Dr. C is very kind and approachable if you get stuck.
Personally I think her lecture/slides are generic so you need to read the book to do well. Also her jokes are sometimes uncomfortable and she's really vague when someone answers her questions so your often unsure whether a students answer is correct, partially correct or flat out wrong. Overall shes not a bad teacher, but certainly not a favorite.
acts really pumped about bio in class, but when you look past the surface, lectures are vague & confusing. terrible at answering questions. exams test on material never covered in slides or lecture. DOESN'T ROUND AT ALL. 59.51 = F.
Lectures are very energetic and a lot of information is presented during them. However, she does not post the powerpoints and relies way too much on the $200 book. Tests are an absolute nightmare, and way too much homework is assigned. Grading policy is also a joke, no rounding at all, no extra credit, nothing. Good luck if you bomb the tests.
really nice and tries to make the class interesting. but the course itself is extremely difficult! she is kinda rude when you ask her a question
Not very friendly, presents minimal material of which some is on her exams. Goes very quick the day before an exam to jam in as much material as possible, sometimes helpful during office hours, but not guaranteed.
very clear and friendly. holds a review session before each test in which she lets students know what is on the test to a degree. upbeat and interesting lectures.
While I don't really prefer her personally all the time, she is a great professor. Had her for General Bio I, II, III. Homeworks are super easy. Tests can be specific but as long as you study the notes and textbook you're fine.
Very nice, quirky and fun. Tough grader, makes you learn your stuff but makes the class interesting. Online homeworks/quizzes are awesome (lots of answers available via google).
She is very fast pace in her lecture. She encourage questions but must be related to the topics. If you approach her in office hours, be sure you have done some work about your questions. She won't help if you do not show that you have tried hard to understand specific things in her lectures or homework assignments.
Quick during lectures, but she knows her stuff. Really helpful in office hours, but make sure you come with good questions. Tests are easy if you study the material well; mostly multiple choice, fill ins, and matching. Masteringbio is easy and can boost your grade.
Explains things very well and in an easy way. The labs, although, are really clear with the content taught in lecture. Sometimes Im told one thing in lecture and another in lab. Its very annoying
Connelly is possibly one of the most annoying professors I've ever had. Completely obnoxious, can barely stand going to class. Luckily, the material is super easy, including tests and homework. The class is very manageable, but the professor tells horrible jokes, moves really fast through the material, and makes me want to jump in front of a car
Dr. Connelly is AWESOME! While attendance is not required, I'd reccomend attending daily. She will work with you with any questions you have, but she knows how to test you on them! Prepare for her tests and you'll be fine.
Dr C is a great teacher. She wants her students to learn and understand what she has to say. She has lots of officer hours and is more than willing to help. You wont necessarily need the textbook, but you do need the mastering bio code for the online work. Grading is firm, firm but fair. Not really easy but an A is very attainable with some work
Dr. Connelly is extremely no-nonsense and can be a little abrupt. However, she really knows her material, is extremely helpful and certainly does a great job at teaching a class this big. You can definitely get an A if you pay attention in class and read the book - be aware if you hate reading, a lot of test questions are straight out of the book.
Dr. C is my favorite prof this semester. She has a lecture class that is actually engaging and knows the material really well. She answers any questions clearly and is generally really pleasant.
Dr.Connelly is great. She is always excited about the information she's teaching, which makes the student excited to learn it. She is extremely helpful and friendly, and makes class an enjoyable time even early in the morning. She takes a lot of time to supply materials so students feel ready for the exams. Take Evolutionary Bio with her!
if you have a split class like I did, DROP IT. she teaches nothing - you watch videos and have to learn everything yourself. then you get to class and just do a stupid worksheet. she helps if you ask but otherwise is kind of rude.
Most useless professor, I HIGHLY don't recommend you to take Dr. Connelly's class unless you really understand Biology.
She can be rude, but if you have a bright personality, she'll be nice. She's a really tough grader for her tests and never gives any flexibility to a struggling student (expected). If you want to do well in this class, you better study up.
Worst professor I have encountered in my life. She is so rude when it comes to replying to e-mails and talking to students. Her tests are so tough, the final is cumulative of 16 chapters. No test bank to help for final, useless in every way possible. When it comes to helping students out of 10 i give her 0.
Dr. Connelly is great. She is very passionate about what she teaches. She holds review sessions before tests and wants her students to do well. Tests are fair, if you study the material and go to class you will do well.
Tests are kind of weird, but there is a lot of extra credit to help your grade. It is easy to do well once you figure out her formula and study what she tells you to.
Dr. Connelly is a good teacher, though when she teaches upper level classes like this one - her tests are weird. Though you get TONS of extra credit to make up for the weird grading. Sometimes you get random attendance checks but not many.
Dr. Connelly is very helpful if you make the extra effort to go see her and ask questions. Sometimes she can be confusing about what she wants you to study for the tests and sometimes her test questions are odd. However, she does drop one test and drops several of the online homeworks and online quizzes. Excellent, personable teacher.
The class is fast paced where you have tests almost every other week, but Dr. Connelly will teach you everything from the beginning and expects you to know nothing coming into the class. There is homework and quizzes every week, but the answers are all online. The tests are pretty easy for the most part and all of her tests are multiple choice.
She's kind of unnecessarily sassy, but she is a pretty good teacher over all.
Crazy, Hilarious, and passionate! Be ready to get wierded out by this prof's strange mannerisms and cat obsession. Dr. Connelly gives great lectured that are incredibly fun, engaging, and comprehensive. I highly recommend going to her pre-test review sessions. Incredible professor! Would Take again! I love her, shes the best!
Love her positive energy! She's very helpful and will always take time to clarify confusing topics during our lectures, even though we always have a lot of content to go through. You can seriously tell that she cares about our success. Expect weekly online HW and quizzes though. Definitely would take again!
Sandi is honestly my favorite teacher. Biology entails learning a lot of information, and she makes it fun while you learn. It is a tough class because of all the content, but once you get used to the format of the exams, it gets easier and easier. I am taking gen bio 2 with her this semester as well, there's no other teacher I would rather be with
I would not recommend this teacher for deaf and hard of hearing students. A couple of times I stopped by her office because I had several questions to ask but then she gave me a bad attitude. I found out that she have her favorite students she likes. She clearly have an issue with deaf/hard of hearing students. She needs to learn how to be nice.
She tries too hard, to connect to students, to make things funny, and be more "hip." Fact is she's not funny, she couldn't be more annoying, and I skip every class.
Her lectures are extremely fun, she is full of energy.
Lectures pretty heavy and if you're not interested you're going to be very bored. Tries to make material more tolerable but sometimes annoying to deal with. Tests are pretty hard and chapter outlines help out a little. Be prepare to do a little work to get the grade you want
Very nice. A lot of content but if you study you will do fine
Dr. Connelly is a character. Most find her to be funny. She wants you to learn, and has extra credit sometimes. There is a lot of material in this course, but she explains things well, and she always lightens the mood. She is really sweet and a unique professor.
She is deaf friendly and gives great lectures! The class is a lot of work but interesting and not too difficult.
Connelly is a great professor who keeps lectures entertaining with jokes and videos. Homework is online and usually weekly and short. Tests are pretty easy compared to other BIOL101 teachers. Attendance and the textbook are not required but they are recommended. Her PowerPoint slides are posted if you do miss class and they are great for review.
She is VERY condescending if you come to her for help. Grammatically questions are worded on test suggestive of false, which she wanted to be true and she will not even discuss this, Just condescendingly tells to study more. Teaches many nonfactual things, for being a doctor I expected a lot more out of her. Disappointing.
Had to take her online class. It was awful. I had to pay +$50 to be able to do HOMEWORK- and some of the answers from the homework don't match the videos that you have to watch beforehand. Her formatting/planning of assignment postings was terrible and she'd get mad if people asked where to find them. A teacher that can't handle being wrong.
I took Bio 101 as a summer course so it was a semester's worth of material crammed into 5 weeks. The course was challenging because of the time constraints but Dr. Connelly made it a blast and much less painful than it could have been. She is VERY clear with her expectations and is always willing to give clarification if needed.
Great professor. Currently am taking her class and can easily say SHE WILL help you IF you do the work and show her that you care. No one wants to go the extra mile for someone who doesn't care about their own grades. She makes the lectures fun , even when the material is boring, and really tries to prepare you for the exams.
The textbook was not required but you have to pay to do the online homework/modules. I would say her grading is fair, but I just couldnt get over her attitude. She acts very nice in the lectures, but the second you have a question to ask her smile drops and she acts very condescending. I have been afraid to ask her questions.
She is a semi-fair grader when it comes to the final project. She seems approachable in her lectures but when asking a question in person or over email she is incredibly rude. A student should not be afraid to ask their teacher a question about the material or project specifics. This creates a terrible learning environment for even the best student
I started to take her online course, BIO101. I asked for a grading rubric on assignments, as one was not provided. She replied rudely, she suddenly was holding STRONG bias against my work. She refused to meet with me for office hours as well. She is clearly subjective on if she likes the student, and no objective on the quality of their work. Poor.
Do not take during the summer! With the lab attached with it you end up with 2 labs, 2+ tests, 3+ assignments per 5 day period. Extremely unapproachable, if you do not write your email like you're writing the President, don't bother, all you'll get is a condescending response with no useful help. Hidden costs, 150$ for the lab kit, 25$ to do the HW
Funny in class but very unapproachable outside of class. VERY lecture heavy and moves through information quickly.
Confused because I had a good experience, did not experience any rudeness one-on-one. Tests are hard and cover a lot of info, but they aren't unmanageable. Project medium is partly up to you, don't make it hard for yourself. I think if you show her you care, follow the rubrics, and make an effort, you will be fine. Use the TAs and review sessions!
She isn't deaf friendly - can be very rude. I don't suggested anyone to take her for biology 101.
Tests are harder then other sections, asks for more applications then other professors who ask for more surface level questions. Way too much work for a 100-level Gen ED class. Also seems nice in class but very rude in emails and in office hours. Very smug about being rude. I would never take her again if I had the chance. Hard avoid if possible.
I asked to meet for extra help, and she responded saying that all I did in class was mess around on my computer. After I told her that I was taking notes from her (very fast paced) lecture, she told me that I would never learn like that, e.g. she said she was typing to me and wasn't even paying attention to what she said. Can be rude outside class.
Loves to joke around too much and wants to seem friendly, but is actually very disrespectful when you ask a question outside of class. She made lectures interesting with her outgoing personality but many times it was overboard.
The amount of work for the 1 credit lab portion is absolutely insane as well as the amount of work in the regular class itself. It is online and she made absolutely no effort to teach us the content and instead just threw the content at us and had us teach ourselves and do mass amounts of work. She is also very rude in emails and grades very tough.
Tests are very easy. Sometimes if you go to office hours, she is the nicest person and very willing to help. However, sometimes she seems extremely annoyed at you when you come to office hours (I only went twice, and this happened the second time). Just beware. Overall, you should be fine though.
(ONLINE CLASS) I'm in the middle of this class and it's honestly pretty easy. I can't confirm or deny what the other people are saying, but I can tell you that I only spend 2-3 hours each week actually studying content and doing work. She gives more support to her students than your other professors do.
This course has a heavy workload for a general biology course with a lot of busy work that goes in depth. The final exam is replaced by a semester long project that is completed in parts and is very in depth. I had a different professor for Gen Bio 2 and it was pretty much the same way. Connelly explains things well but can be a bit rude.
Dr. Connelly is a pretty nice person. However, she takes a very long time to grade things, grades harsher than other teachers, and puts things on tests that were not taught. It's hard to do well on tests and in the class.
During lectures, Dr. Connelly comes off as friendly and willing to help you learn, but the second you seek help out of class, she is very passive-aggressive and rude. She assigns absurd amounts of work each week and is a tough grader. You can go into exams knowing everything and walk away with a C. The course project also required way too much work
Lots of lectures, weekly worksheets & quizzes. You can easily cram the lectures in before the quiz and do fine, but I wouldn't recommend that as the real test is the semester long project. You're going to be doing a lot of research, make sure you actually read your sources. The lecture demos were fun and usually very helpful in understanding.
The workload is average. She posts announcements every Sunday on what is coming up so you never miss assignments. Makes recorded lectures interesting and I actually enjoy BIO more now after taking her. Isn't the friendliest when you email her but I can also understand her frustration when getting asked questions she has already answered.
Work load is easy, and should only take 2-3 hours per week to complete, very rude overall.
Dr. Connelly is overall a good professor. Her grading is fair and within a timely fashion. The weekly quizzes as well as the exams are all open notes, making her class manageable and fairly easy. The only thing that could be said about her is that her lectures are lengthy.
Dr. Connelly seemed okay at first, but when I reached out to her for feedback on an exam she gave me a weirdly passive aggressive and obnoxious response, basically ripping my answers apart and talking down to me. Other than that, the class was okay, but nothing special. I never asked her for feedback again.
I think she has been the best professor at RIT very personal and is also very helpful if you have questions am trying to get her for Bio102
She is absolutely hilarious! Her lectures are genuinely amazing and her explanations really help the students understand the concepts. 10/10 would absolutely take her class for 4 years if I could!
Has a passive aggressive tone in her emails, doesn't thoroughly read students emails and provides unhelpful responses that confuse and prolong work. Her tests are very difficult, average is typically a low C. She says that the activity worksheets are super helpful for the tests and that it is essential to pass but they are never relevant.
Dr. Connelly has the typical lecture with slides and incorporates activities- I thought they were a waste of time. She was sometimes very harsh and passive-aggressive during lectures and in emails. I didn't like how she did not post the answer keys to the quarterly. Reading the textbook was a waste of time. Overall, not terrible, but not the best.
Bio lectures are big sections, but generally, it was an okay class. Videos are released covering the exact content of the lecture, which was more helpful than the lecture at times. The short-answer questions on tests were frustratingly graded, but they've since been eliminated. It was a gen ed so I wasn't particularly interested in the topic either
Dr. C commonly goes off topic and makes semi-inappropriate comments (funny, but a professor should NOT be saying this stuff to students). Randomly takes attendance for a grade, exams are fairly hard and include fill-in-the-blank with no word bank. Two grading options, one adds on a mini project, so the overall grade isn't so test heavy.
