lots of essays, no tests, teacher is moody, she has her good days and her bad days. the only thing good about this class is that she cancels it on occasion.
Sandra Rocked!!! I liked her a lot. She's very personable, GO TO OFFICE HOURS!! better grade guaranteed! She's very reasonable and funny!
SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH a great class, and SUCH a great professor. Even if you're not an English major you should totally take this class. Sandra is the nicest professor and the most understanding and most willing to help professor that I have ever met. Lots of reading and tests. But so great!!
Great teacher!! Fun class. Very passionate and willing to help. She also tends to extend deadlines and cancel classes.
Shes a nice person but she isnt always. She has her days. Also She gives a lot of readings quizs', and ESSAYS.. THE ONLY GOOD this is that she cancels a lot of the friday classes! which is AWESOME!!!
Sandra's great. A bunch of friday classes were cancelled--we had tiny assignments instead, like "spend an hour in nature" or "find the lyrics to a song and print them out." My writing also improved greatly. I'd highly recommend her, english class with her is different, in a very good way.
Big waste of time, tons of reading, essays and other BS assignments. gives us stupid reading assignments, a lot of them are about womens lib. and how terrible society(especially men) is. I HATE THIS CLASS!!!!
So many journal entrys...so many quizes...so mand long essays. I couldn't handle this class. The teacher seemed like she ment well, but it was reallt hard with many hours of homework.
Your writing will improve, but be prepared for the busy work of your life. She definately likes to put you on the spot. Also, it is very hard to attain an A, so be prepared for a B+ on everything. Major tip: always agree with her opinions or else your grade will suffer.
lots of works. But even if you are not good on your essays and quizs, show her you are doing so hard for that class (like going her office hours, always attending class, speak out many times), then you can get better grade!
Sandra rocks my socks, I'd take another class with her any day. My writing improved lots thanks to her class, and although we definitely had a load of work to do, you learn a ton. Just speak up, ask questions after class or during office hours, and you'll get a good grade. :)
inconsistent lessons
Took her class over summer. I loved it. Fun projects, interesting material. She's now a mentor of mine. She's helped me immensely in my writing.
sandra rocks! yeah, she's tough, but you're in college now...deal with it! the readings were interesting and your writing will definately improve. also, speak up cause she loves anyone who'll speak out.
HOrrible class. Feldman is not the type to understand personal problems when it comes to excuses for books, not reading, not doing homework. No sentiment. Makes you do a lot of work, and will probably be a good challenge. just don't expect a break if you h
i learned so much from her.. she's tough, but really helpful
she is tough but you will learn so much from her, and she allows revisions so if you get a bad grade its your fault.
Sandra is awesome. She is a great professor who really knows what she's talking about. VERY hard, but will always give you the chance for success. Work hard and she'll know, slack off, and she'll know. VERY good class and you learn a lot. Put in hard work, learn and grow and you'll get an A. Very fair teacher.
I love this Professor!! At the beginning she seems a bit imtimidating, but if you work hard in her class and go in during her office hours she will love you! She is very good at letting you have a second chance and I could easily see that her main goal was to have her students succeed!I think she is one of the best professors at Sonoma State!
Excellent class with a real challenge to it. If you have ever been warned about university-level work, this is the class you will find it in. Feldman appears to take no prisoners, but if you need her advise, she will take her time to guide you. Contrary to popular belief, it IS possible to achieve an A in the class, but only with LOTS OF WORK!
Excellent class! Definitely recommend this class to anyone - a lot of course work, but very worth it. Sandra is a great teacher!!
She grades on participation, she wants you to go kiss up and visit her during office hours. She always has to be right, dont try to fight with her.
not a good course! lots of essays....horrible grader....likes you to suck up and always has to be right!
very difficult teacher. i had honors teachers in high school that were easier than her. class participation is huge but so are your writing skills. shes a hard grader and seems to grade you down if your style or format doesnt fit what she thinks is "proper writing". a couple creative, artsy assignments which were nice.
She is an awesome english teacher. she is very fair and gives you exactly what she wants in the papers. She will help you with anything and is funny in class. Even the tests in class she lets you bring notes and gives you the subject in advance
I really enjoyed this class! I've never really been into english but I always found what she said to be very interesting! She really has a great sense of humor and although there are multiple essays, the homework load wasn't too bad. She has pretty high standards but as long as you work and participate every once in a while, you'll be fine.
She was a horrible teacher. She always has to be right and does not listen to what other people have to say.... "I value your opinion but your wrong...." That pretty much sums up the class! I wouldn't take it if at all possible.
HORRIBLE. Like the comment below, she's very into herself and constitutes her opinions as 'facts'. Fronts a cultured, open-minded, knowledgable person when she is really assuming, judgmental, closedminded and has a powertrip about needing to be right that creeps out sometimes. Speaks to students like they are kindergarteners...
OK, so I was auditing the class and didn't get an actual grade... However, I did learn a lot - not only writing a solidly cited essay, but also did a PowerPoint presentation, and researched two (relatively) straight-forward papers on FairTrade and Ocean pollution. Plan to take at least one upper division class with her in 2yrs.
This is college -- she expects college level papers. High School Honors classes are still high school classes. She expects more, and that helps you for other classes aka any upper division and/or GE classes that require writing. In the real world, you do have to suck up sometimes to get the upper hand. I didn't find that I had to though. Awesome.
She was difficult to deal with, but the class was not that hard at all. You can revise your essays and she never has a set due date for anything really. She believes her opinon is fact and sometimes is rude when she does not like your answer. i would say take the class it is an eassy pass, but she is quite annoying
I think she may be one of the worst teachers I have ever had. If you do not agree with her "ideas" you are wrong. She isn't clear about what she expects in papers, she cancels class just about every week and then expects you to know what is going on and what is due.
Her quizzes, if you dont put her opinion in the quiz you get a bad grade. She has cyber class which is completely pointless but its a free time to miss. She missed our class about 6 times.I had a better grade on my grade sheet we turned in, but she still decided to give me the grade she felt. A lot of class discussions too. Dont take her!
If you go to class and read the short stories Feldman assigns you will be fine. The class essays are done by sections in the book. Feldman is understanding with late assigments or missed classes. Only a few papers and minimal reading (short stories). THis class is worth it. Just stay on top of the work and you'll be fine!
Worst teacher ever. Extremly unclear...work is not hard tho. Does not actually keep a grade book, just gives you the grade she feels like. Alwayyyyys has to be right. And most of all, super annoying
I have so much hatred for this professor it is unhealthy. I enjoyed English until I had her as a teacher. She is extremely condescending and unclear on what she wants. I tried hard in her class and she gave me C's on all my essays. If you can, I would avoid taking her class!
She is pretty much the worst teacher I have ever had! She is so pretentious, and always has to be right! She is very unclear about her expectations, however she makes it very clear when she does not approve. AVOID HER!
She is not helpful at all! She is rude and disrespectful to her students. She gives out too much work and acts like she is better than everyone else.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is extremely unhelpful and unclear about what she wants. She doesn't teach she assigns. If you do not agree with her, she will give you a bad grade. She expects you to understand what is going on in class and sometimes assigns stuff that you have never done in class. DO NOT TAKE HER!
By far the best professor I have on this campus. She is super helpful and a sweet/caring person outside of class.Go to class, read the readings, keep up with journals, and soak up all the knowledge you gives you.Sometimes unclear but life is sometimes unclear to. Learn to deal with it.She doesn't just teach eng she teaches you life experiences.
She is a terrible teacher. If you don't add one thing she wants on her essay you will get an F. She thinks a C is a really good grade, so if you want a C you can take this class.
this class and tacher are very frusterating and getting an A or B is VERY difficult. There's a ton of work and she's the teacher who will point you out in class for not understanding the readings. i will say that i enjoyed the topics of the readings but would never take take this class again... EVER!
So here is the truth. She is a sweet person. The class was hard for me because I'm not a good writer. Class is busy busy work so keep on track. Hard to get an A unless you are a freaking awesome writer. She is very helpful until the end and if you hate writing this is the wrong class for you. She really tries to help you become a good writer though
By far one of the worst teachers on the face of the planet. she is practically the devil. she will seek you out and make your life a living hell. she is extremely unprofessional, and misses class all the time. if you want to enjoy your time at ssu, avoid her at all costs. dont even say hi to her on campus.
She is a nice person but a horrible teacher. Assigns at least 5 readings per week. Go to her office hours and suck up to her because that's how she'll like you. The course consisted of constantly writing essays about the readings. Pretty easy topics but if you don't agree with her don't expect an A. She thinks a C is a good grade.
Basically Sandra is one of those people who tries to sound so nice that she comes off kind of fake. But really, she wants to help you. If you have her, ASK QUESTIONS. She can be really unclear. Keep up with the work. Do it as it's assigned, it's easy to forget and it piles up. 15 page final. Harsh grader, but will almost always let you revise.
Sandra is rude in class, nice when you're talking one on one. She will mock you if you continuously say "like" or "um". I've never wanted to slap a teacher until now. Do ALL the work asap and carry it with you to class no matter what. C's are basically the highest grade you can get.
Worst teacher I've ever had to take. I signed up when the class still said "staff." Worst mistake ever. Feldman is never clear on when assignments are due. Her final is complete B.S.. She's rude, occasionally mocks her students, and talks down to you. Expects you to know the tiniest little details that have no importance to an English class at all.
Awesome woman! She has a pretty tough workload, but if you listen to her she will set you up for sucess in her class. I really connected with her. We have a lot of the same views on politics, social government, and society. Very interesing opinion.
She tends to ridicule you if you use fillers.Cuts you off frequently and the essays should be easy so long as you check out the reserve copies.Start essays early on and stay on top of the readings and you'll be fine. Best time to talk to her is one on one. She may seem intimidating during class but she's very nice during her office hours.
Feldman legitimately destroyed my writing confidence...at first. To pass her class you must follow her syllabus be on top of your work. Essays are huge so make sure you take at ast 3-5 days to write. Her grading is extremely harsh but your writing will benefit.
One of the best english teachers I've ever had. She can come off as harsh or rude, but she just expects you to be on top of your work as a college student should be. She's really nice one and one and will really make your writing improve significantly! Just stick to the syllabus and have your work ready and on time. She knows what she's doing.
The subjects that Ms Feldman picked were interesting. Her teaching methods suck. She teaches through ridicule and embarrassing her students into compliance. If you do not share her opinion of the way that the world works then you will not get a good grade in this class. Do yourself a favor and choose a different teacher.
She is a hard teacher, but as long as you are professional and hard working, you will get something from this class. Sandra is a great teacher as long as your show initiative and pride in your work, she will help you get the grade you deserve. Do not say "like, um, uh, or any words along those lines. Also, sit up front in class :)
Ludicrous amounts of work for a simple 101 GE class. Try your best to get into another class. It's tons of busywork and she takes the class ridiculously serious so she grades hard. She's also incredibly unnerving just to be around, and is delusional in the sense that she believes we have a general interest in a GE class.
This is not an easy class, but is well worth it! There is a lot of work, but as long as you follow the syllabus and don't get too far behind, its not overwhelming. She seems harsh and intimidating, but if you go to her office hours she is very helpful and will tell you exactly what you need to do. Not an easy A, but you will become a better writer
Best English teacher I've ever had. In one semester, I learned more ways to write than I learned in all of school. She expects you to work hard and if you show that you are putting in the effort to do a good job, then she will help you. Don't be a slacker and you will succeed. Her office hours are really where most of the learning happen.
Prof. Feldman can teach you how to write a solid essay, so long as that essay is flaming liberalism. If you like having your own opinion, stay away, especially if you lean any direction other than left.
I personally loved Professor Feldman. I think the only people that wouldn't like her class are people who aren't willing to try. She is very clear about what she expects on all assignments and if you follow her directions you'll do well. She can be intimidating but she is actually really nice to talk to. I recommend her for those who want to learn.
Professor Feldman is very clear on her expectations for her students. People complain about her class because they don't follow her direction. You can do rewrites of essays, and she really does want you to succeed in her class. Utilize office hours and read the syllabus before asking questions! She gets irritated with those who don't listen.
I cannot wait for this class to end. Everytime she talks its like everyone in the class is in 2nd grade. Shes extremely helpful and a hard grader. Very liberal and I feel like most of her assignments are left sided. Theres homework every class, just a reading and analysis. The final 15 page essay is just a bullsht from the semesters readings.
Such a hard teacher. Always are doing more than one assignment at once. multiple home works due at one time. everything about what she thinks is right now what actually is right. I do not suggest taking her
Sandra was ALWAYS changing her mind about how to do homework assignments. She assigns too many things at once and isn't clear on how to do them. She gets very irrupted and treats you like a child if you don't understand something right away. The only plus was that she canceled class at least 10 times.
I really enjoyed this class because Ms Feldman seemed interested in the subject and helped me grow as a writer. I agree that her topics are on the liberal side but she is a fair grader and will take her time helping you out. I felt the course was semi difficult as any Eng 1A class but if you do your journals you will be fine.
She is very all over the place and can be confusing at times. There is a lot of work, but it is very easy and you can re-write all of your essay's. It is not a hard class as long as you keep up with all your work and ask her for help. She cancels class a lot too so that's cool
She is unorganized sometimes but is ready to help you anytime. Very easy to contact her. She gives a lot of work but if you stay on top of it, it isn't that bad. You can rewrite all of your essays for a better grade. Really wants to see her students improve their writing skills and just be an overall better person.
Sandra is always willing to help, giving you many resources to contact her from and other outside sources to improve your writing. Get ready to be writing all the time, every day. There are journals due everyday almost and essays are back to back, sometimes overlapping one another. It is a lot of work but if you keep up on it you'll be fine
Sandra is the funniest easiest English teacher I've ever had. As long as you get on her good side from the beginning, she will love you. But always do the drafts for her essays, with that you will always get am AB. I actually enjoy that class.
She missed a considerable amount of our class periods and constantly changed the dates that papers were due. I felt like I was always writing a paper. But, as long as you show up to classes and keep up with the reading you can pull off a good grade, I got an A
This teacher is absolutely horrible. A lot of reading 1 to 2 per night and makes you do a full analysis for each one. Her final is absolutely horrible and is the hardest thing to complete. She is rude and doesn't accept late work. She is somewhat helpful in her office hours but not much. GET A DIFFERENT TEACHER. would not recommend her.
Sandra was a cool teacher, but she definitely makes you work. She believes that you can succeed if you put everything into it. I truely believe this was a hard class for a GE. Definitely keep up with the reading a journals because you use all of them on the final essay... and most importantly... DON'T PROCRASTINATE ON THE FINAL ESSAY!!
Show up to class and you're good. Also make sure to check your seawolf email at least 10 minutes before each class because the location of the class changes often and she will get mad if you're late. There is very little homework. All assignments are on the syllabus. If she knows you care about improving your writing she will grade easier on you.
I worked my ass off in that class and got all A's on the essays (which is 70% of the final grade) and got a B+. She has this weird grading scale and doesn't use a grading book, she does the math in her head to calculate the final grade. She is a nice person but will NOT take a second look at your grades. Her word is final even if she's wrong.
Sandra is a very good English teacher, she is very passionate and wants to help you learn, Lots of essays and 15 page paper at the end of the semester. If you put the effort in you'll get a good grade. There is a lot of writing assignments that involve analyzing a reading.
Sandra is very passionate about what she is teaching. She is not always clear, but is always more than willing to help you if you go to her office hours. I worked my butt off to get a B+. She is a tough grader at first, because she want things dine her way and you might not know what that is at the beginning. There is a good amount of outside work.
I just finished my semester with Sandra and some of these reviews are very inaccurate. She is a wonderful teacher who only wants to help you grow as a writer. I loved every moment of this class and I can 100% say my writing has improved. The negative reviews clearly come from people who put in no effort. I highly recommend her :)
She is extremely hard. Especially if you are not good at english. Expect to read all the time, and write 5 essays throughout the semester. Also don't forget about the 20 page final due at the end. She is difficult, so if thats no you, choose someone else.
She's literally the worst teacher I've ever had. Do not take. I didn't even need to take this class. She lost me my scholarship. Worst teacher. Do yourself a favor and don't take her.
Professor Feldman is erratic in temperament, she loses assignment, changes her policy and isn't able to explain course objectives and expectations clearly. It is almost impossible to complete assignments because she continually asks for revisions on work she has already approved and she does let students advocate for themselves.
Professor Feldman lost my work, ridiculed me in front of the class, and made sarcastic remarks about me that bordered on discrimination. She has no filter and her bipolar like behavior and her insults do not belong in a teaching environment. We were required to take her class and It was the worst experience I've ever had.
Prof. Feldman's disorganized and hot-headed, and her directions are inconsistent. She contradicts herself constantly, which makes completing assignments nearly impossible. She isn't clear about what she's looking for, and she'll not grade anything until the end of the semester, so you've no idea where you stand. She makes everything a struggle.
6 units of work for 1-4 unit classes, and if you don't want this instructor to lash out at you in front of everyone and compare her busy life to yours, then don't ask questions. It isn't that the work's too difficult, it's that it's far too much for the # of credits. College is about pushing yourself, but this instructor will hold you hostage.
You have to write 6 papers in a semester that are at least 5 pages long. Good topics for papers but has homework every class which are at least a page long. Journal checks are mandatory and must read every class. Shes a super hard grader. Would not recommend.
I can't recommend this instructor not because of the workload or because she grades hard (we expect this in college), I can't recommend her because she loses work, changes grades without explanation, does not appear to respect her students and because grading criteria is very unclear. I would not take this instructor again.
I have never been more frustrated with a teacher. She does not explain the 6 essays well at all. There are 2 to 3 paragraphs due per class that she grades on the spot. Her grading system is very confusing, she's contradicting and very hard to talk to. I would not recommend this class to anyone.
You get what you give for this class. Sandra is a tough teacher and can certainly fall into the stereotypical crazy english professor persona, but she does care about students succeeding. I have become a better writer because of her. I suggest writing down everything she says in discussion and meeting with her when her directions become unclear.
If you go to class and do the readings you'll do fine in this class. All assignments are on the syllabus. She leaves helpful feedback on your papers and is always willing to help. If you put effort into the assignments you'll get a good grade. My writing skills have improved tremendously because of this class. Best class I took my freshman year
I was shocked by the workload, took her my first semester of freshman year of college. My writing improved a lot, got a C- on the first paper but got As on everything by the middle/end of the semester. She can be a little condescending to students at times when they ask for help. The lectures and readings were all interesting.
There's a lot of work but it'd definitely doable. I got an A but I had to work for it. She may seem a little crazy but don't let this stop you from taking the class. She cares about her students. The class itself isn't difficult, 5 in class essays and the final is an essay that is assigned on the first day of class. 10/10 would recommend!
This class was difficult for me because I had never taken an AP or honors English before, so the workload seemed a bit intense compared to what I had normally been used to. I struggled, but as I continued to write more and more papers my writing seemed to improve dramatically. My papers would be filled with feedback but I learned the most from her.
Sandra cares about her students dearly. She makes you work for your grade. Keep up on when assignments are due on the syllabus and go to her office hours. A lot of assignments, so devote some of your time during the week to just her class
Sandra's class really makes you work for it. It's hard in the beginning, but overall, you truly become a better writer. She's always there to help and answer your questions.
sandra is such an amazing educator. she genuinely cares about the wellbeing of her students. be prepared for a lot of reading and writing. this class is a great foundation for future classes and makes you a more educated student overall. i recommend going to her office hours so she can get to know you and so she can give you amazing feedback.
Sandra is the most moody teacher you will ever have. You never know which side of her you will get. I'm sure she gives great advice when you catch her in a good mood; but otherwise you better run. She really knows how to make you feel like the biggest idiot when asking anything. I have never felt more discouragement from a professor ever.
Professor Feldman's class is so hard! She is disorganized and loses work. Her essay topics make no sense and all essays except for the final essay are in class. She grades so hard, would not recommend because no matter how hard you work, it never seems to be enough.
Sandra is a good person no doubt but her expectations for a first year freshman college student are definitely not realistic unless you devote yourself to her class. The work is definitely time consuming and she has very high expectations for writing abilities. She cares about writing but I have not improved on my writing at all in this class.
I nearly cried when she picked apart my first essay, D+. If you figure out what she's looking for when grading you can get A's on all your essays. She's difficult but the skills you learn make all other writing assignments seem easy. it's like an investment. Take her if you want a challenge that pays off for the rest of college and beyond
Sandra is a very good instructor. A lot of essay assignments, but she always gives a chance to correct or fix your work. You are in control of your own grade, and if you make an effort (even 1 - 2 times) to go to her office hours, it will benefit you. Actually listen to her corrections and you should be fine. My writing improved a lot. Really nice!
do not take! I consider myself to be a pretty good writer, a lot of my work has been published. However, everything I did never seemed to be good enough. I've never felt more discouraged, Sandra criticized every little thing I did& even picked on me in front of the whole class. Her instructions are unorganized&confuses herself along with the class.
I went in for help and instead of helping she told me I would fail her class so she told me to drop her class. And then once I did I needed her help getting into another English class but she said I didn't give her class enough time. She knew she was wrong and tried to cover her tracks. Don't take her!
This was the first college course where I really felt like I learned lifelong skills. Like any other class you get out what you put into it. You really have a chance to learn a lot from Sandra but it is definitely a very difficult course. You need to work very hard in order to pass the class but if you are dedicated you will learn a lot.
Had 1 take home essay our final one (10 pages). Other 4 were in class essays. I had a 83% avg. on essays (tough grader), but you can get up to 10 pts. added on an essay score for a draft. Ironically she wants students 2b openminded yet she is close minded & doesn't let students analyze texts in their own way. Essays must agree with her analysis.
This professor is hard core. If you did not take honors or AP English in high school I would steer clear of this professor. Her style is all in class essays, and she is a tough grader. I ended up dropping this professor because she basically asked me if I was special. I dropped her class and the English class I was put in I received an A.
Sandra was really something else. In the beginning of the semester she seemed helpful and I thought I did well on my first in class essay until I got it back only to get a C. Her notes did not match the grade I received. I wished everyday class would be cancelled. She also gives out some assignments at 8am for her 10am classes.
Feldman is unclear on her grading criteria and gives out assignments the morning of the class day that they are due. I would not take her again. Avoid her if you do not have a strong English background.
Sandra is probably one of the most degrading professors I've ever encountered. She lost many of my classes assignments and left it up to us to prove to her what our grades had been. There was never clear dates or requirements on assignments, and she spoke to other people in the class as if we had never taken an English class before.
Feldman assigns a ridiculous amount of work for just an introductory class. If you have to take this class, be on top of everything. She has favoritism towards students and not others. Expect to ask questions just to get clarification. If you have not taken any advanced English courses in high school, steer clear of this class and professor.
The most disorganized class I have ever taken. She is completely unclear with the work that needs to be done and talks about multiple assignments that are all unrelated, yet somehow all due at the same time. If you have the option to take a different professor, do it. She seems like a nice person, but has unrealistic expectations for her students.
This class is tons of work. She seems like an uplifting and nice person, however by the second class I saw how intense the work load was going to be. All of her uploads and commentary contradict each other so you never know what assignment is due or even how to do the assignments. And just when you think you've got it done, she gives a bad grade.
Sandra is a horrible professor. She claims like she will help you outside of class but she is always argumentative and condescending. In high school I got A's in all my honors English classes and this class seems like it should be easy because Sandra is so disorganized and confusing, but she still grades crazy hard. DO NOT TAKE SANDRAS CLASS!
Feldman makes you read a lot in her class. You have multiple essays which are worth 80% of your grade. This means you HAVE to do well if you want a decent grade. It's very hard to get an A on anything, you usually are always docked one or two points. There is a group project and some in class presentations. I'm usually an A student and I struggled.
She posts all the assignments and instructions on canvas and only uses class time to work on said assignments, does no teaching whatsoever. She will randomly post assignments throughout the week and expect us to see it and get it done in a day's time with no warning. She is a very tough grader and extremely condescending.
She's a good prof! She's one of the first who actually helped me grow with my writing. She says she assigns about 5 hours of work per week-but she doesn't. The homework load is pretty light considering its an online class. Zoom meetings are optional but she is available bale to call and do zooms 1 to 1 whenever you need it. DON'T BUY THE BOOK
