Do not take this professor. Really hard test and expects so much.
She is hard, but she is really nice and understanding
Very intellegent but her classes are very difficult.
Most people will probably have her for Greek history. Taking her class can be challenging, but you will appreciate the depth of information she has. When you leave her class you will be able to discuss Classical influences on Modern politics, art, literature, philosophy, and history.
A LOT of reading, but no tests and gives you the option of re-doing papers with low grades
Horrible teaching skills, unorganized, poor grader, cant speak english well, expects a rediculous amount of work, snobby attitude, expects you to spend $$$ (alot) on photo copies--AVOID HER
very good tecaher, strict but very good for people who want to learn!
She is good you just have to be able to understand her and know what you are doing on the tests and papers. But on the other hand she will work with you. Ancient history is a hard topic and she understands that so it's up to your relationship with her
She's nasty. The readings are boring and so are her lectures! She's also very tough!

she is horrible and expects too much. she can't speak english so it's hard to write notes in her class and her paper is insane-8 pages-expects you to read alot of material. she also gives no review-gives an attitude if you ask her to-in plain english, she sucks as a teacher and shouldn't be teaching since its seems that he don't like her job.
she was very difficult. alot of work, alot of reading, hard tests. because of all the hard work, you learn alot leaving her class.
She's a very nice professor who knows what she's teaching. Taking her class opened my eyes to information i was never aware of. She is very fair. Take her if you truly want to be an inspiring teacher.
shes hard. her tests are hard, but her papers are bearable.the final project is a nightmare! her class is boring, but if u do what ur supposed to u should b fine.
Very good teacher. She is tough if you don't read any of the material. As long as you read half of what you are supposed to, you'll be fine. Vert nice. She knows what she is talking about so you cant BS her.
As long as you read the material, you should be fine. She isn't a bad professor and has a lot of knowledge about the subject.
Morally bankrupt - she directly lied to me and her supervisor. Hardest course I had to take in college. Immorral and impossible to contact because she leaves the country frequently. One review given and it was absolutly useless. She directed a vulgar hand gesture to me in class and spoke down to me. She was insulting constantly.
she isnt very clear but shes really intelligent. you'll learn a lot from her if you can actually understand what she's saying.
This class was probably the hardest class I have ever taken as an undergrad. She is not very clear about what she wants, there is A LOT of work, papers, reading etc. The exams were impossible (most of the class failed the midterm) And she is VERY harsh when it comes to grading. Only take her if completely neccessary.
WHOA. This was the most difficult class I have ever taken. 2 Large papers, 2 small papers, an impossible midterm and a killer final. She was brutal. And made us feel stupid. I love a challenge, but I WOULD NEVER TAKE another one of her classes. I wouldn't suggest anyone else does either, unless you are EXTREMELY BRAVE! OR NUTS>
I have read what people wrote previously about proff Gambetti and I would not agree with half of it. Yes she is very demanding and expects to do massive amounts of work. If you read the book before class and listen to the lecture you will do good. She has a European way of teaching one of the best professors i've had
She made me hate greek mythology.....but after all was said and done, i kept my mouth closed n did what i had to do .she passed me with a D...and mostly everyone else failed..we started with 40 kids...16 were left..maybe 8 passed....shes a good lady, and she knows her history...shes to much for a level 200 class

Sandra is a horrible teacher. You can't understand her broken english.she belittles her students. She expects you to read way too much, and also wants you to go to her office on days you dont have class to pick up handouts!(why cant she just bring them to class?!?) Her tests are IMPOSSIBLE!4 essays plus a map and questions in 2 hours! strict grader
ProShe is a very good teacher. The reason many student sdo poorly is because she expects alot. If you are looking to goof off she is notfor you. For the serious history student she is good.
take this teacher if you want a D. She is incomprehensible and horribly mean. Insulting when you ask for help or advice, completely unapproachable. Her class was difficult to sit through. she brought down my whole GPA single-handedly.
This teacher has a serious dark cloud looming over her. Just scary! Really! - and I'm an A student with a 3.86 grade point average.
Professor Gambetti is a very tough professor because she expects you to know what you are talking about. She wants you to become intellects and really understand what you are learning in class. I have learned a lot from her class so far, but I'm petrified of her exams. Mostly essays and maps. Do Your readings or else fail. Recommended for S.M.
Prof.Gambetti will show compassion to those who participate and work hard on their reading. She has a different sense of humor and you have to really show that you are interested in learning- must pay attention to what she says. You need to think for this class and pay attention to details. Essay exams. Take notes. Read alot. Be on time.
She assigns way to much reading for one over night assignment. She is tyrannical and seriously thinks that she controls your life and that her class is the only one that you have/is important. She does not help you at all and makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. I loved mythology before this class, now almost never want to look at it again.
She's rough
Prof. Gambetti is a brilliant historian. Lazy students or people who just want to be high school teachers can't handle her. They are used to very easy teachers. I think she is one of the best professors I have ever had. She wrote my recommendation for grad school. She is sweet, smart and pretty.
There's a lot of reading and a serious artifact project. Also, trip to MET.If you keep up with the reading you should be okay. She's smart and it's an interesting class if you are willing to put in the time.
one of the best teachers you will encounter...if you are a real student
One of my favorite professors, she doesn't give slackers any breaks. If you do your work and don't try to BS her you will do well. I learned more about research from her than any other teacher. I think I have a crush on her ;)
She was very interesting and she made you think. I thought i did so well but i did bad on the midterm and final. It was extremly hard at least 10 people left within 10 mins of the exam. no joke. I didnt get my grades back till the last day of class. I should have dropped her and never take Gambetti. She is nice but don't let that fool you.
In the end I earned a very good grade but I still wished I never took the class. Alot of work: a two page paper every week, at least 250 pages of reading a week, a book review, a 10 page final paper and 2 incredibly hard tests. Save your sanity. She is crazy and hard to understand. The tests are impossible bc she wants you to remember everything
Great teacher but don't park your brain at the door, she will expect you to work and participate
I was so looking forward to her class and instead I wished I never took it. Her projects make no sense nor did the reading material. She somehow when I took her class made Greek mythology somehow be related to a jazz musician. Also when she gives projects shes very vague and gets flustered when you ask her questions.
Too much reading. Not enough clarity. Does not give reviews for any exams.
She is not helpful. She give a lot of reading. I actually dropped her class because she wasnt willing to work with me. I need cc on movies and wasnt willing to change anything.
Religion is not Philosophy & Philosophy is not Religion is Gambetti's fundamental error. Religion Studies, like Philosophy, is its own academic department with its own standards and terms. CSI does not offer Religion programs and is not a place were any professors ideas on Religion can be indulged with any seriousness.
Worst professor I've ever had at CSI. I do not recommend taking her if you can get out of her class do it NOW. THIS WOMAN IS TERRIBLE AND CANNOT TEACH FOR THE LIFE OF HER. The assignments she'll have you read and bring to class are ridiculous. My class started with 40 kids and went down to 12 by the final. I should have dropped it too.
This is the worse teacher in the whole tri- state area she is extremely tough and a really hard grader. I am a history major and love History, she completely discouraged me as a senior. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU KNOW WHATS GOOD FOR YOU!!!
Only had a midterm, final, and final paper. Her test was incredibly long with no review, so you have to know everything. Her class has no structure at all. She is passable if you work for it.
I would rather crawl on glass while it rains throw up than sit in her class, no words to describe it or her method of teaching.
It seems that his professor likes to hear herself talk more than shes likes to teach. I felt that this professor did NOT demonstrate the skill set that markes a good teacher. This professor makes you feel like you're in an interrogation room rather than a classroom. Even a 4.0 student is subject to a D. Worst experience I have ever had.
Shes by far the worse professor ive taken. We didnt meet as much because school was closed for holidays on the day that i had her instead of meeting 12 times we probably met 8 and then she gave us a midterm without review, Doesnt clarify anything, then she speaks latin like if i know latin?seriously prepare yourself to teach yourself and push yours
One of the worst professors I've ever had. She assigns entirely to much reading, expects you to remember every little insignificant detail you read, and is very nasty. She added a trip to MOMA on a Saturday (which wasn't even on the syllabus) which I (and a lot of other students) could not attend because of work. I should have dropped this class.
Her work is very unclear. She doesn't explain enough and doesn't review. She also can barley speak english. DO NOT EVER EVEN CONSIDER TAKING HER CLASS.
Her class is a huge challenge, and the class is only for genius.
This class is only for students who are mentally prepared to be faced with complicated work. You have to be a studious. She expects a lot out of her students. Tests were hard; you must study. Drop the course immediately if you aren't ready for this type of work and go to another professor. She's intimidating, but not impossible to pass. Good luck!!
DO NOT DO IT!!!!! Literally the worst professor I've ever had. She only wants you to answer questions her way because that's the only right way. She says the word "stupid" atleast 3 times every class. You have to read 8 textbooks at the same time. If you can get out,do it I'm telling you!!!
There is no review for the midterm or final (study everything you learn!!), and she seems intimidating; but just be a good student and participate a lot you'll be ok. I highly suggest you drop the class if you don't want to do any work, participate, or the very least show up to the class. Although this class is hard, it gives you a good work ethic!
The professor is very knowledgeable on her topic but expects you to remember every detail that is discussed in class. Test were extremely difficult and the final paper was a nightmare. I believe she would be better suited for someone working on getting a Masters or PhD in History as opposed to working on the undergraduate level.
Definitely would not recommend. Graded on midterm, final, and final paper only. Does not explain at all. Does not provide extra credit.
I would never recommend this professor. This is the only course I did not do well in. It was intensely lecture heavy and she gave exams that had nothing to do with what you were learning in class at all, or the readings. It is as if she wanted you to fail, which is unfortunate because she teaches very interesting courses.
This class will not be the easiest class to take. She is a tough grader, and you must be good with notetaking. There is no midterm or final review. Her classes are lecture heavy so be prepared. If you are on time, pay attention, do the reading and participate in class you will be fine. She is a nice person and if you talk to her she will help you.
This lady constantly belittles her students and gives everyone constant anxiety (randomly picks on students). You have to read at least 4 books at the same time. The tests are IMPOSSIBLE. She is such a tough grader and will constantly tell you that you're wrong unless you agree with her. The final paper is also 10 pages. Get out while you can!!!!!!
This woman is THE WORST. She is impossible to understand. She actually spoke in Italian for like 30 seconds before realizing it, then switched to English. She assigns an abundance of readings - gives no review for the midterm or final. She choose 1 line from over 600 pages of text and asked us to identify where it was from and explain it. RUN!!!!!
She is by far my most favourite professor to date. Yes, she may seen a bit harsh at first, but shes very sweet! She doesnt do reviews, but an outline, for both exams because she wants you to understand the lesson matter, not just remember certain parts for an exam, which I highly admire. As long as you read the texts, youll be perfectly fine.
I don't know why ppl diss her. I never had any trouble understanding her, and she was always straightforward. Yeah, you have to read and analyze the stuff... it's history lol. If you want to learn about ancient Rome, she's the one!
She knows what she is taking about and is very passionate about the subject she teaches, but she is just very unclear about anything she says and gets upset when questions are asked. she also gets upset if you dont answer her questions within 1.5 seconds of her asking them.
This is a class that requires participation and effort. It is not an easy A. She knows her stuff. You will be practicing your critical thinking skills and not just merely summarizing what you're reading. This is important if you really want to think like a historian. Fascinating subject and really interesting course material. Would take her again.
She is the worst. Her class and lecture is always full of hostility when she asks questions she belittles you and makes you feel wrong even if you're partially right. Her tests and papers require you to be accurate but the instructions are vauge. Take my advice and stay the heck away from her classes and find another class to fill the requirement.
No walk in the parkyou need to take vigorous notes. I 100% recommend downloading her PDFs of the primary sources and taking notes directly on them in Adobe. Write down EVERYTHING she says, and all the comments made in class she agrees with. That being said, you wont leave the class without learning how to analyze primary sources. She is a gift.
WORST PROFESSOR EVERRRRR!! If youre reading this RUN!! Does not care about her students at all. Shes very rude and mean. No extra credit. Fails everyone and doesnt care.
Never had a teacher like this before, expects you to have perfect english and grammer but has the grammer/ english of a third grader herself. Disrespectful to students, terrible explainer, and doesn't seem to want to do their job. Guess this is to be expected at a new york state school.
She structures her class on giving the students readings each class, so if you're not willing to deal with heavy readings this class isn't for you. It's important that you complete these readings because the whole class is us having discussions on them. so participation matters. One thing that helped me tremendously is note taking from the readings
The worst Professor I have ever experienced in 4 years at CSI. She has no compassion for her students and has belittled all of us, I have email proof. I am so stunned by her actions and the fact she still works here is beyond me. Shes extremely rude and not helpful at all. Ignored my emails at the end of semester as well.
She was nasty whenever students asked questions and she got ridiculously defensive whenever we tried to explain why we couldnt understand her. Her final was 3 essays and the 3rd one was on a poem that we didnt ever discuss in class and we couldnt even find a translation for because IT WAS IN LATIN?! Just dont take this class for your own good.
She is a decent lecturer. Beyond that horrible. She is very rude to students when they ask questions (even on review days). Very heavy reading, but goodluck finding the sources. Most of my class couldnt find 4/6 of the books. Only graded on 4 things to which the feedback is slow and subpar. Avoid taking.
Professor Gambetti can be intimidating at first but as long as you actually try and to the work you will be fine. It’s definitely the hardest class I took in college yet but I can say I learned a lot.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! Readings before each class are between 20-150 pages per class, yells at us for no reason, Failed everyone. Ask specific questions which make no sense. Gives no feedback besides this is wrong. AVOID HER AT ALL FREAKIN COST. Imagine you worst teachers all combined, multiplied by 10, she is worse than that.
This professor should be ashamed of herself, she is a disgrace to the CUNY community and should be fired. She has no care or respect for her students and she is only there to collect a paycheck. She does not represent what CUNY or CSI stands for and she is a mockery of the history department.
worst professor in this college, a disgrace to the history department is an understatement. She is a disgrace to higher learning. I never ever hated a professor before, but she is the first one where i dreaded going to her class.
Sigh. Don't sign up for this class. I am a History Major and I am shocked about how poorly she treats students. VERY rude, worst professor in the department. I have never put so much work in a class to get NOTHING in return. AVOID this class at all cost, if you need a 300+ level history class and she's the only one available, don't do it.
She has friends in high places at cuny. I took her last year , and it was the worst experience I ever had. She is so malicous and disrespectful to her students. Some of us wanted to report her for various instances of verbal abuse, but were scared because of her connections. If you are a incoming student DO NOT take her. Please run . cuny fire her!
doesn't explain things clearly, yells when you get the answer wrong, just overall a disrespectful teacher.i do not recommend taking this course, unless you plan to fail.
The fact that this professor is still allowed to teach actually blows my mind. she is THE WORSE PROFSSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN. She is very rude to her students and doesn't explain her assignments clearly. She doesn't give feedback for her students and does not follow the syllabus. whatever you do, do not take her course.
I gave her the benefit of the doubt at first after reading her bad ratings. DO NOT RECOMMEND! Her instruction is extremely unclear & when you ask to clarify, she doesn't at all. I had to drop her class. She gave me a 0 on two papers bc I "didn't answer the question", but didn't clarify when I asked to. She is very rude & belittles her students.
These ratings DO NOT LIE. Professor Gambetti was the worst teacher I've ever had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with. She is rude and just truly a nightmare. If I said how I truly felt about this professor I would get banned immediately. I would rather eat dirt than take this class again.
She is not a good person.
the only ppl who passed in my class were the ones who kissed her behind during lecture. for her essays, copy what she says word for word because she doesn't want to hear anything else TRUST ME! you're scared to participate? I know ! she belittles you in front of everyone but expects people to ask questions. very aggressive, miserable and bitter.
As someone who is Greek she has False information that she teaches to her students. She has no heart or care she will fail you even if your doing all work in a correct matter and is mean and belittles her students
Her instructions are very unclear for all of the essays and when you ask her to clarify she catches an attitude. she required about 8 textbooks and goes from book to book a chapter here a chapter there, it makes things extremely hard to follow. don't ask her questions unless you like arguing!
Don't pick her class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To all students, remember you are paying for a service, not to be disrespected or belittled. You can always log a complaint with CSI's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Do not be afraid to speak up, because being failed for speaking up is an ethics violation.
Her teaching methods are hard to understand. She doesn't let us know about any of our tests (meaning that she doesn't give students any test reviews and doesn't even tell us how many questions are going to be on the tests we take in class). She is very difficult to work with, overall. Do not pick her class, whether first or last time.
Very unprofessional and very rude to students.
Professor Gambett is tough but she's a great lecturer. She may be intimidating but like, do the readings, come prepared, participate, ask questions and for feedback-- basically, Communication is key, and don't bs your work.
