She is by far the best instructor I've ever had through my entire education
Difficult class
Awesome teacher.... very helpful
No Comments
By far, one of the most interesting, fair, & nicest teachers I've ever had.
this class requires dedication and time, awesome teacher though
Tough class but she teaches it very well
Hardest class i've ever had but very worthwhile..a true college course=)
Makes anatomy and enjoyable, and wow she's hot.
Lots of memorization, but worth taking her at SDSU rather than going to a JC.
Wow, freakin hard ass class, but interesting. Freshmen must avoid at all costs!
intimidating as heck. but is a great info source and is helpful & understanding.
Prepare to study if you take this course. Take good notes in lecture, they help.
So smart and vey helpful
She's a great instructor, smart, and interesting
TOUGH CLASS, but Garver is great at teaching it, very helpful ,ask Questions!
Tough class but worth it in the end.
demanding class, great teacher w/ helpful lectures
I wish she could teach all of my Bio classes; she is excellent!
Tough class, very good instructor

If you know the info the tests are easy.Gives study guides that provide most answers.Don't need to read book if you go to class.
She knows her stuff! NOT totally approachable though...
TOUGH CLASS. MUST GO TO EVERYCLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES. SHE'S A GOOD TEAHER
Very difficult class. Quizzes mostly based on lecture.
tape record lectures if u can, rigorous class, very knowledgable professor
Great teacher and a great class. Sandy knows her stuff. Don't take during the summer-it's way to much stuff to learn in 6 weeks.
She's an awesome instructor, the class is pretty in depth, but she's one of the best teachers I've ever had!
very good teacher. class takes a LOT of studying but if you pay attention, go to class and lab even open lab and study you will do good. tests are predictable. open lab is very helpful and quizzes add up!!!

She knows what she's talking about, but it's a very tough class!
Expect to take this class for the second time if you're a nursing student!
Stay away from this class especially if you're a nursing student! Extremely difficult class to get a decent grade in. Must go to all FRIDAY OPEN LABS! Tests are very difficult. Need to study your butt off or you're screwed. Try taking this class at Mesa!
Sandy's great. I absolutely love this class. Just study your butt off and commit to learning it. That's what it takes, seriously, do not fall behind or procrastinate and you'll be fine. Take less units if you have to. Go to ALL classes!
Very hard class, but Sandy is a great teacher. Study your butt off for ALL tests and don't take chemistry at the same time.. whatever you do! But Sandy really cares about all of her students and their sucess, just be prepared to work!
Anybody who said she's too hard for nursing is a sissy and should not be wasting their time in nursing school. Sandy is great and fair, it is the best class I have had yet at SDSU, there is so much to learn!! Lucky to have her.

I recommend to take this course at a JC. The exams are hard exspecially if you do not have a good T.A. for lab.
if you're good at memorizing then this is your class. this class requires a lot of your time, if you're not willing to put in time into the class then don't take it. word of advice: don't fall behind.
This is a very difficult class to say the least. Last 3 exams are hard, oral tracings suck. Majority of nursing students must repeat! Best advice is take this class @ a JC (MESA!). Profs & lab instructors there are much more helpful. STAY AWAY!
I took this class two times once in spring once in summer. Garver seems out of reach during big lecture classes, but if you have her for lab she is very helpful! Face it, you need anatomy so just take it and get it over with!
Tough class in summer but Sandy's a great teacher. Go to open labs and don't fall behind or it's all over.
A great teacher who knows her material. A lot of memorization. Getting an A is very much possible IF you take the time to study. I didn't study as much as I could have but I did manage to get a B in her class. GO TO OPEN LAB!!
One of the best instructors I've ever had! Yes, it's a time-consuming class, but take advantage of open labs, buy the lecture packet, ask the TA's lots of questions, and plan on memorizing ALOT of info!!
This class is very time consuming, but not impossible. If you want to get an A you can as long as you put in the effort. Go to Friday Open Labs!! It's a sure way to pass.
Really interesting class. Great professor.
yes a lot of memorizing.cant be lazy while taking this class.i got an A and i studied hard at least 7 hours a week.its definitely a challenge but it's really interesting and hey it's only one semester.it actually goes by quickly.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Long, difficult tests. Shouldn't take many units along with this course. Yet, I've never learned so much from one class.
Wonderful class and excellent teacher. She is very clear, very helpful, and very approachable. Yes it is difficult but it is worth it. Very interesting and she makes you understand it thouroughly. If you take Human Anatomy take it with Sandy, she is awesome.
when they say that youll finally understand what it means to EARN your degree when you take this class they arent lying! but i loved this class the prof's incredible and the T.A.'s are awesome! its ALOT of work, but if you dedicate yourself, youll pass with atleast a B! i got an A in the class btw!
Sandy is incredibly knowledgable and really nice...but the class is incredibly hard!!! My best advice is take the first test very seriously and go to open lab the first unit...or you'll be sorry! I was! Luckily I pulled a C.
SUPER DUPER TIME CONSUMING and A TON OF MEMORIZING.. if you don't have time on your hands don't take it. she's a good prof though!
I'll keep it simple: If you have to take this class, THERE IS NO TIME TO BE LAZY. Study for this class on a regular basis and ask for help if you need it. If you are a hardcore procrastinator like I am, you may be screwed.

garver knows her****- but if your unlucky like i was then youll get stuck with practically retarded TAs. inorder to counteract the incompetance of lame TAs, open lab is a must, and the flash cards from the bookstore work wonders for studying as well.
just as long as you study youll pass the class
Great class, a lot of work
TONS & TONS & TONS of studying! put keep calm and focused and you'll do fine. go to open labs on fridays, pace yourself, dont procrastinate with this class, & dont take too many units if you plan on taking this class. i got an A. but i worked my ass off. Sandy's super nice, she's a great prof.

This class is very very easy-- as long as you dont lag. Basically, its all just "name the shapes", but there are a ton of shapes. Shes really nice, an awesome lecturer too. Open lab is a must if you want to get an A.
Sandy was my lab instructor and that really helped me! She is a good lecturer as well. Do not get discouraged by the first test. This class is so awesome! You learn how to study effectively and spend a lot of time studying. i studied about 20 hours per test including friday open labs! Sandy will help you if you need it! Talk to her!
Prof Garver is an excellent teacher-- go to her office hours, open labs are a must to pass this class with a B or better, and STUDY. Don't take too many units with this class, the info may seem easy but there is so much to memorize! She and TAs are always willing to help, so ask! Good luck!
Really hard class..well duh,but as long as you study daily and go to open labs it will all make sense.thinking of dumb ways to memorize stuff is the best study method ever.pretty much tells you whats going to be on the test.not really any reading just lots of memorization!!! got a B+ ..very possible w/ light courseload (i took all GE's)
Toughest class I ever took. Sandy is a really good lecturer, cute too.
Anatomy is not hard as it seems. You could even study just for one day and I mean striaght through. I suggest though study ahead and you will do fine. Deffinity go to open lab because most answers to tests are in open lab. Don't really need to read text but you should to understand it better.
This is one of the best classes you'll ever take, as long as it's with Sandy. She's one of the most organized professors I've ever had, and she's extremely knowledgable in the subject. I took the class over the summer, so it was SUPER intense, but I learned a TON. Just make sure you attend open lab--it's the only way you'll get an "A". Sandy rocks!
Sandy is awesome! it is a very hard class, but as long as you stay on top of the material and take to mind all the hints and study strategies that are given you should do fine
Sandy is so great!! I loved the class and she really knows the material. Try to take the lab with her also, it is really helpful to reinforce the concepts. Great prof and class!!
she is awesome at lecturing! she really knows her stuff and goes very in depth. its very hard to fall asleep in that class, b/c its usually very interesting. dont miss lecture, b/c you're missing out on alot of information. sometimes 4 pages of notes in one lecture period. class is highly recommended!
Easy intro to human body class. All lecture. Drops the lowest test grade. Very nice. Makes it interesting. I hate science but I enjoyed this class.
The class isn't conceptually hard just lots of memorization. Pay attention in lab and lecture. If you put the work into this class you will get the grade you deserve. Her lectures go by really fast and there are alot of notes, but it is very intersting. Also go to open lab, it really helps
She tells you what to expect the first day of class...she tells you that this class is one that will make you earn your degree...there are five tests and ten quizes which means no life because you are always studying...an A is not impossible you just can't slack ever!!! Go to open labs so you know what all structures are on every chart and model!!!
She's very organized and tells you exactly what you need to know. You must go to at least every other open lab to get that A. Kinda tough but it's fun and you'll definitely learn a lot.
Is one of those classes that your really can't just bs your way through it. You need to want to be there... i enjoyed the class even though i had no life during the semester. It is VERRRRRY time consuming and its a lot of work. She tells you what you need to know and she puts that on the test. Very straight forward, but A LOTTTTT of matterial.
a VERY DEMANDING CLASS...recommend attending every open LAB>....dont bother reading book..only go to open lab and memorize charts, labels, etc. cadavers..ohhh yeah..need to know..it would be helpful to purchase atlas of human body..study lecture notes..EVERYDAY..Study STUDY STUDY STUDY STUDY STUDY YOur ass off...NURSING stUDENTS
No way around this class, or this professor... But she is awesome-she knows her stuff.. I learned ALOT- the most I've learned in any other class. If you enjoy learning about the body, you'll find it interesting.. When I grow up, I want to be as hott as Sandy!!!
You seriously need to deside the first day of class if you want an A.Its a VERY time demanding class but the information is 100% understandable, lots and lots to memorize, but really interesting.DO NOT rely on everything your UTA's tell you, they are rusty on the material. If you have a question,ASK Sandy PS: The male cadavers name is Fred :)
easy A. all you have to do is memorize all the parts of the body. its like memorizing states or people in your class's names. easy as that. go to lectures though and pay attention. and you will get an A.
Knowledgeable Teacher, study questions are very helpful, lectures boring at times, but she provides extra credit and drops lowest test score. Best bio teacher i've had at state.
Hard class but very interesting. You learn a ton of stuff that really helps you understand the human body. Lots of studying, I went to every lecture and lab and some open labs, try to go to the open labs if you can. Prof. Garver is the smartest and most clear prof. Ive had at state, and shes hot too!
very hard class with a ton of material! you should go to every lecture and especially every lab or you will fall behind. lots of studying and memorizing but it is possible. she is very knowledgable and helpful. there are open labs where you can go to study more but I never went and still managed an A. STUDY ALOT!
There is no way around her but Garver is the best so no worries! Open lab is a MUST! You will learn everything u need to know for exams in open lab. Exam 3 is the worst so dont procrastinate!!!!!
Great Proff, funny, interesting, very smart. Should go to all lecs to get the A, and attend open labs when possilbe. You have to go the extra mile to get the A though, this class will not be a breeze, but you will benefit greatly. It has been the best class at State for me. Best of luck
the class is very challenging. the tests are hard, but i loved this class and dont regret taking it. the subj is interesting and the prof is awesome. she is very helpful and explains things well, works very fast tho so prepare to take lots of notes and study hard for the test. use the study guides, study them front and back! and do the lab.
Wow, she's simply the best. Go to every class, take good notes, ask questions or go to office hrs if needed. Didn't even read the book and got an A, all because she's so good at what she does. I'd say take any class by her. I'm a Biz major and found this class to be challenging but so rewarding. Plus she's hot.
Very hard, class. Nursing major? Take it at community college! I have almsot straight A's and 1 B and I'n a sophomore, and I got a C in this class, and C= 0 points for point system! I have 3.96 gpa, and still thought this class is hard!! So I'm telling you to save yourself, cos you can't retake these classes again for points, dont take it at state!
*READ!* If you want to get into nursing program, then don't take it at state, go to a jr. college like Mesa or Grossmont. It's easier to crash classes there because everyone drops. And it's easier to get an A. You pre-nursing majors need those 10 points for that A. Take it from someone who screwed up. This class is harder than others are.
not as hard as ppl r saying. its just memorizing a lot of information, so it seems hard, but it really is just time consuming. you should probably quit ur job and take 12 units or less if ur taking this class. i got an A and i have a 2.8 gpa! ha!
I cant believe no one has said she is hot!!! hehe but yeah...GO TO OPEN LAB!!!!! She is an awesome teacher, but if you really want to get a good grade....find out which TAs are the best.
STUDY STUDY STUDY!
This class wasn't as bad as I thought-it's just memorization. But, you do need to attend lecture and go to open lab to pass. But I only spent about two hours a week in there since I study off the Lab manual everyday. Oh, don't let test 3 psych you out-study and memorize everything everyday. I did that and got an A+. P.S. cadavars aren't scary.
Sandy is a GREAT teacher. HumAnat was a VERY hard class, but honestly, if youre determined to do ALL the work before or on time, and you really study every single day, then youll probably do well. She explains everything SO well, but therell be an occasional misunderstanding and shell be MORE than glad to help you. Shes great!
This D*** class was rediculous. The Material is already difficult when u have to learn over 100 muscles for a test, but she makes it even harder when u have to learn the Origin, Insertion, and Action of all 100. Then she only puts 20 of them on the test. However, she really knows her stuff, and she is extremely helpful. Very hard C or B.
This is a very challenging class, yet its very intriguing. Although I'm a good student I received a C+ (which is still decent for how much work it is!) My advice: DO NOT PUT THE WORK OFF. STUDY EVERYDAY FOR MINIMUM TWO HOURS AND ATTEND LECTURE. Do so and you'll be fine!
AWESOME professor who really knows how to teach. the class is hard only because there is sooo much material! but if you're good at memorization you wont have too much of a problem.
Be prepared to work, lots of memorization. Sandy is a great prof and is very helpful. Take her for lab as well as lecture if you can
You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. The class is hard work, but it's just mainly a lot of memorization. Go to all the labs as well as the open labs to review. Make lots of flashcards, read the book, and review the online websites. If you like study the human body you will LOVE this course
VERY VERY INTENSE CLASS.. you feel real good once you finally finish it.. you will gain so much useful information.. i truly enjoyed it although it was tough.. there's lots of help.. i really used my lab book more than my text book.. and still got an A in the class.. if you can find a book to rent then do so!
Sandy is one of the best teachers i've had at sdsu. i didn't use the book much. mostly just for reference & transparencies used on the test are from the textbook. GO TO OPEN LAB!! & use that study time wisely. testing yourself on the posters, models, and laminates during open lab helps a lot. this class is a lot of memorization.
Sandy is the greatest! Anatomy is a tough course (especially to take over the Summer) but her clarity makes learning the information so much easier. My advice: If you want a good grade in the class.... GO TO OPEN LAB!!! and of course, study. Review her notes every night for at least an hour and you'll done fine
Very easy if you are good at memorization. You do need to attend open lab since most of the test is on the stuff learned in lab. For lecture, you only really need it for the multiple choice and essay questions. I had Justin Strauss and I liked him. Was easy going, nice, and helpful.
Awesome!!! this is the most time consuming class u will ever take, but the info is handed to you, its just a matter of how well and how much you can memorize. Sandy genuinely cares about her students progress and wants everyone to do well!! i was lucky and had her for lab too, one of the best teachers i've ever had and I learned A LOT.
The best teacher I have ever had at State. Was lucky to have her for lab. Really knows what she is talking about. The class is tough and you definitely have to work for your grade..but the knowledge you will gain is completely worth it. Highly recommend her!
Sandy Garver is the best teacher at State. Anatomy is an extremely hard class and she does everything she can to make it as easy and understandable as possible. GREAT lecture! The labs are a bit harder, but stay on top of things and it's not so bad.
Lecture and labs work together so go to both consistently, lots of memorization. Great professor really knows the material and teaches it well.
it's anatomy so don't expect to slack off and still get a good grade. it's really important to go to open labs, STUDY LECTURE NOTES (!) for quizzes and tests, and don't leave everything till the last minute (especially for test 3).i got a high A in this class it's definitely doable.
Get ready to memorize, excellent prof
This class requires A TON of studying and memorizing (especially for Exam 3) but getting an A is completely possible. Labs make you feel mentally exhausted, but they're not difficult. Open labs help but I barely went and still got an A.
Garver is so knowledgable! She really knows what she is talking about!. She is interesting in lecture most of the time! She can be prety funny.
best professor i have EVER had. hard class. if you are taking it over summer, you live and breath anatomy. very time consuming getting an A is doable make sure you dont fall behind.
What is everyone talking about? If she weren't the only professor, I guess she wouldn't get all those good comments. I certainly wouldn't take her if she were not the only one. She is just snobbish. She acts like if you're not smart enough for this class, then it's your own problem. She could care less. As a professor, that's not the right attitude
Sandy is most definately a sweetheart. She is very professional and it takes time to get to know her, but she rocks!
I took this class this summer. The class material is alot and on its own its alot of hard work. Definitely take advantage of open lab, it really helped me alot. Garver is really nice and very helpful.
Throughout your education you have probably been taught that understanding concepts is more important than pure memorization. This class shows that although pure memorization should not be relied upon, it is necessary if you want to apply your concepts to real life. You can also view this class as filling in and memorizing a MASSIVE coloring book.
Go to open labs. Excellent professor.
I loved the lectures, they are very clear and easy to understand. Take Notes! Tests are pure memorization so GO TO OPEN LAB! and study before tests. Make flash cards! Also...take advantage of her checking your essays before the tests and you will get full points.
Definitely not an easy A. Attendance is crucial because you can miss a lot in one day, take good notes & pay attention in lecture, &study everything. No trick questions because EVERYTHING is given to you in lecture & lab. Open lab is optional & I never went once & still got an A. Flash cards are extremely helpful for memorizing test material.
An A is VERY achievable! but you have to work hard. NO suprises at ALL on the test she lays out EVERYTHING that will be on it, even the essay questions. you dont have to read the book but it helps. GO TO EVERY LAB AND LECTURE! AND MAKE LOTS OF NOTECARDS!!!
awesome class to take and i highly recommend. be ready for a lot of work and memorization. sandy garver is an awesome professor and lecturer. she only accepts the best grad TA's and Undergrad TA's, so mostly all of them know there stuff and won't confuse you.
Sandy Garver is a great lecturer for human anatomy. Her lectures are clear and straighforward. The class was challenging but you will learn so much from it. I recommend going to open lab every Friday because it helps so much. Just study hard and you'll do fine.
Sandy really is an excellent professor--her lectures are very easy to understand. It helps if you read your lab manual before attending lecture. Just don't slack off and you'll be fine. An A is possible.. just make sure you study EVERYTHING--essay questions, lecture notes, lab manuel (especially).. the charts and models in class..EVERYTHING!
Garver is a great professor. This class is difficult! YOU NEED TO GO TO LECTURE OR YOU ARE SCREWED! I barely got a C and I studies my A** off. Good luck. Keep up on everything she tells you to do because if you fall behind, you wont pass this clas.
Gives you a study guide, and her lectures answer all the questions pretty much in order. Or you can skip the lectures and use the book at home. I managed to get a low B on every test and hardly ever attended class. Final is cumulative but optional as one exam is dropped. No homework. A LOT of memorization.
This is the hardest class I ever took at state but I learned the most I ever would in a class! I got an A in the class tips: go to lecture!! seriously! one test I didn't go to the lectures and got a C the rest A's. Study every day for at least an hour. Go to open lab!! lastly know everything don't cancel out anything!!! loved this class!
This teacher knows so much! Really nice teacher. But very difficult class! 4 exams,1 non cumulative final, 10 quizzes, and 4 homeworks. I could have gotten an A but instead I got a B+. Study mainly her lectures for the quizzes. But for the exams, KNOW EVERYTHING!!!!
Definitely one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, but it is also one of the most rewarding. Professor Garver does an EXCELLENT job explaining things. There are no surprises on the tests, but you really need to know EVERYTHING! Study notes, lab book & GO TO OPEN LAB! An A is definitely doable! Study everyday and you'll be fine--don't slack off!
Garver's class is difficult; But as long as you commit yourself to study, you should do fine. the class is nothing more than pure memorization. Open lab helps
She is a GREAT professor. Explains material very clearly and is always willing to help. She gives you a study guide at the beginning of the semester. Her lectures go along with the study guide. Allows you to drop one test which can be the final if you do well on the other ones. Great class!
One of the most interesting classes I've had at San Diego State. Garver is an amazing lecturer, and she loves helping her students out. I'm not saying this class is easy or anything, but, you have to put ALOT of your time into studying for exams. FACT: If you go to open lab every friday and actually study, you will get an A.
She is extremely hot, i mean being in class is like a dream, guys if you want any motivation to go to class look at sandy. The class is a ****, but shes worth the time in class if not to learn anything, you can always enjoy the eye candy
Well, you have no choice! She's the only teacher at SDSU. All I could say is that all other ratings about her are lies! This is a hard class already, but all the tests are hard to an unreasonable point! If you want to even pass, take an equivalent course at a communiity college! Read this before any other comment cuz this is the whole truth!
Sandy is really organized and makes things really clear. Go to open lab and ask questions when you need to, Sandy is really helpful. Great class!
Sandy is a great teacher who is really knowledgeable when it comes to anatomy. Make sure you go to all your labs and lectures if you want a decent grade. This course definitely requires a lot of studying. But Sandy is a great professor overall.
Professor Garver is a great teacher, she explains everything really well, attend lectures, don't miss labs, study and you will do great, this is not an easy class, lots of memorization! Cadavers smell funny. Try to get Sandy as your lab instructor!! She is definitely the best! Go to open lab, and for the quizzes focus mainly on lab & lectures
Sandy is the best professor ever! She's really good and organized, but this class is NO joke. 5 exams, 10 quizzes, 5 homeworks. Exams are hard yet this class is doable.Really interesting. Go to every single lecture and open lab!Good luck!
Such a great class! Dr. Garver is an AMAZING professor, ALWAYS willing to help. Take this class, it's a lot of work but you will SURELY enjoy the class.
I agree with the rating on 4/12/09. The tests are relevant to the lectures, but definately not the quizzes. The quizzes can sometimes ask something random that was never covered in class. Sometimes, the quizzes can ask questions regarding something that will be covered after a quiz. The class is very unorganized.
YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. Test material is all covered in labs and lecture. Tests don't have word banks, there's only 20 multiple choice questions for the like 300 point tests so you HAVE to study. She's a really clear, really good teacher, you just have to WORK for your grade. I wouldn't suggest any other terribly hard classes with this one.
HEADS UP: this class is HARD, but if you study and focus, you will do fine in this class. I recommend to have Sandy also as your LAB INSTRUCTOR! She helps you a lot during lab &it's much easier in learning the material from her in lab since she writes all the tests. STUDYING is key. if you study, trust me, you'll do really good! OPENLAB, always go!
OK...many of you are overly optimistic, but I'm just here to save trouble for you guys. Yes, I failed it the first time, and got a B the second time. I wonder what that meant? Many people can't do it. You can't say to get a good grade comes straight out of studying cuz I did study. Avoid this professor if the class is not required. Take ir from me!
This was by far the best class I have taken at State. If possible, take a lighter class load when you take anatomy and you will be able to get a lot more out of the class. The textbook is really great for review and also many of the visuals on the test come straight from the book. Make use of office hours and ask questions!
This is definitely a hard class, but Sandy is a great teacher. Everything is done in lab, so you should probably always go, and attend open lab every friday! It's realllly helpful, REALLY. Lectures are mostly what show up on the quizzes. Study hard!
Great class, Sandy is a great teacher and is really helpful and very accessible. Glad I took this class
Prof. Garver is an AWESOME professor, she really knows her stuff and takes time to answer questions and is willing to help out anyone and everyone at anytime. The class was extremely difficult (I mean come on, it's The Human Body) but it was fun taking it. Prepare to study your ass off for the exams.
this class requires a lot of your time. there are 10 quizzes, 5 homeworks, and 5 exams. there's open lab almost every friday, it helps out a lot if you attend. i probably opened up my textbook like 3 times out of the whole semester. you should take a lighter load of classes when taking this class. overall you need to STUDY A LOT...and DON'T GIVE UP
must keep up on ALL material! the quizzes are from the lecture mainly and the exams are from the lab material mainly. go to open lab on friday will be your best friend because it is such a dense course. goodluck.
My favorite class in my 3 semesters in SDSU. 5 exams, 10 quizzes and 5 hw. Attendance is very important for the Lab and also in Lecture if u want an A. Open Lab on Fridays is very helpful in studying for the exam, although I did not go to all of them. Garver is very organized.
Not necessarily hard material to comprehend, just VERY TIME CONSUMING! As long as you study a little every day and dedicate your fridays to open labs you'll be fine. Go to lecture because she post essay questions to exams. Most of the essay questions are extra credit AND REALLY HELP! As long as you work hard you can definitely get an A.
Ms. Garver is one hell of a teacher! Her classes are extremely interesting and as long as you attend class, you will do well on the course. Her tests are literally copy and paste questions from the study guide that she provides. I got an A on the class without killing myself studying! Very fun class, excellent professor.
Sandy is AWESOME. Not going to lie, this class is hard.. But she explains things amazingly and really loves what she does. The book isnt used often, but is a really good reference tool. The main source of information is your lab book, which will become your life. GO TO EVERY LAB. you will get 40 E.C. bonus points at the end of the semester if you d
Garver is an amazing teacher!! Class was very time consuming and required a lot of hard work, but it is extremely interesting. Attend all lectures because some of the information on the quizzes is based off lecture. Loved this class!
Garver was by far one of the best professors ive had at san diego state, the class is very time consuming so make sure you dont fall behind, but as long as you come to class and stay on top of material in lab you should be able to get an A..GO TO OPEN LABS on fridays too! very helpful!
this class requires a ton of time!! study a ton! study for quizzes they boost ur grade! KNOW EVERYTHING FOR TEST! open labs didnt help me but u can rent things in the media section of the library. the quizzes are from lecture notes. go to class its not madatory but helps to understand and fill in notes. tests are on lab, besides 20 multiple choice
Class isn't mandatory but go so you can fill in the lecture notes. Quizzes every week. Open lab helps. Make friends with people in your labs, it makes it a little easier to study. Quizzes are based on lecture notes. Cadavers are really tricky for the exams. Essay questions are easy and so are M/C. Lots of memorization, but not a hard class to pass!
If you are interested in anatomy this class will come as cake! For others, the class is hard but reading the lab books and using your resources is important. The textbook is unnecessary and costly. A lot of study time required to do well. Go to open labs, lectures, and every lab class.
I had her for 3 consecutive semesters, for BIO341,BIO212, and BIO 261. She is an AMAZING professor, her tests are hard, if you do not study. But the tests include EXACTLY what is given in lecture and the lab books. GO TO EVERY LECTURE! Trust me, if you miss class you will miss a big part of the test. She is very reasonable with the tests.EXCELLENT.
She has high expectations, but is a fair teacher. Don't skimp out on the work load! If you take Anatomy with her, you should basically expect to have no life. :/
Sandy is very organized and very helpful. Tough class but exams are straightforward, no surprises
This class was ridiculous. I have never hated a teacher so much in my entire life. Her tests are not fair and if you do not go to open lab then you are screwed. if you have anything to do on Fridays you should probably drop because you will fail with out it. Don't buy the book, it doesn't help at all.
Quizzes are based on lecture material so attend class if you are planning on getting an A Everybody is different but I had a life when I took this class and still got an A If you are a science person then just plan on going to open lab every Friday for at least on hour, meet someone that you can have quiz you in open lab its the best way to study
Best teacher I've ever had! Anatomy is a HARD subject and you have to study your butt off to get a "B" in this class but she explains everything very clearly and it's really interesting material. Tests are hard but if you study hard you'll pass.
I'll be straightforward, this class was not a stroll in the park. Attend all lectures and do NOT miss lab. Attend Open Lab every friday. Study hard! However, this was a very rewarding and fun course, and probably one of my favorite classes I've ever taken. All the hard work was worth it. Everything is basically just a memory game.
I had Garver for both anatomy and physiology lecture, and she's a great teacher. Her classes are hard and time intensive but if you do what she says you can definitely get an A! I had mono and she's also very understanding about makeup work if you have a legit excuse.
Sandy was an amazing professor. She is really straight forward with all of the information she presents. It is not an easy class only because of the amount of information you have to learn. If you are not prepared for that, then you will not do well. If you stay on top of all of the studying the class can be really interesting and fun.
Great class & helpful TAs. Be prepared to study, study, study! Wouldn't recommend taking this class w/ another huge science course because anatomy will become your life for a semester. Well worth it tho
Great class & helpful TAs. Be prepared to study, study, study! Wouldn't recommend taking this class w/ another huge science course because anatomy will become your life for a semester. Well worth it tho! & DON'T NEED textbook...unless ur a health major for future use
if u have questions ask her. she's a good teacher go to her lectures. quizes are based off of her lectures. anatomy class basically all memorization but for some reason no matter how much time i spent memorizing i always got B's on her exam.
This class is very time consuming but not extremely hard. It's a lot of memorization. Go to open labs and study and you'll do just fine.
Garver was a great professor and a caring lady. She's down to earth and is lenient on her grading scale. The class isn't too hard, as long as you put in the time. Don't stress and you'll be fine! Go to open labs!!!
She is the worst teacher EVER!! she just want to finish all her slides regardless of how fast she has to teach. Her test are very hard and going to lectures are just waist of time! all you do is fill in blankets. If you want get a C or below take her class!
I am not sure why some people say she grade fairly , I got 89.5 and she refused to give me an "A"! She is not helping student at all, all she does is read from her lecture notes and she constantly says "No whining" . Take this course with another teacher, I know many got " F" from her, don't risk it!!
Get ready for a lot of memorization. Sandy's lectures are really well organized and clear. Go to open lab.
Formula for an A: pay attention in lecture, study a little bit every day, go to office hours to ask questions and get your essays approved before the exam, go to open labs. It's an overwhelming class but an A is totally possible.
Sandy gives you a clear lecture--not many jokes, but clear. This class is crazy difficult--last day studying is never going to be enough. She goes over a lot of what the GTA does in lab, so it is repetitive, but it helps you remember everything. She also gives out essay questions in lecture before tests.
Sandy is just wonderful
BIOL212 is super easy, no need for attending lecture, most of the material is common sense. tests require an hour of studying at most
Garrver is awesome!! Yes, this class is hard and requires a lot of time. But she is very helpful and her notes are straight forward. I got a high A and did not get a book. I just studied a least a couple times a week and went to open lab! Tests are easy if you study your notes and your lab book.
She tends to ramble during her lectures. Just study the fill in notes and go to Friday labs. If you have the time to study an hour a day, it's really not that hard to get an A in the class.
Garver is one of the best profs I've ever had. She is very clear, helpful, and hot! The class requires some time but isn't hard if you make the effort. Go to open lab!
I did not find lecture that helpful, what really matters is who your TA is they explain the material more in depth. Its a hard class but doable just be prepared to teach your self and spend lots of time studying there is A LOT of material. I managed to get an A and still had time for my other classes and social life so its not impossible.
I ended with a 98% overall. Super easy class. My TA was very helpful, I NEVER went to open lab. 5 lab practicals. I would say go to office hours but Dr. Garver has a very condescending tone and didn't really help all the times I did go. Lecture is not mandatory, the notes are impt though. Lab CANNOT be missed! You'll be screwed.
Garver is the best! She was very nice and helped during office hours! Thank You! I got an A! It is easy to get an A if you stay on top of the material! Good Luck!
Sandy's lectures are very clear. Go to open labs days and expect to memorize more stuff than you ever have before. Sandy was very helpful, overall great (but challenging) class.
She is a very good lecturer , but the class is very hard :/ tests are every 2 to 3 weeks and are fill ins.You work with cadavers.Labs are 2hours and 40 minutes .You must Must read the book or you have no idea of what they are saying their is 10 quizes and 5 homeworks. Hardest class ever :/
Loved this class! It requires a lot of time as far as learning the material, but it's not a hard class. Just be prepared to attend lectures and open labs. Make sure to go to office hours because she is really helpful! Overall great class with a great professor :)
This class was really interesting. However, most people in my class who did not have a science background/major found it difficult. If you are willing to come to class, go to office hours when confused and study hard then this class will be easy for you. She has an awesome grading scale an 84.45 and above is an A...I got an A+ anyway haha
Attend lecture & take the time to learn the material. It isn't a difficult class as long as you study. Those who failed did so because they didn't take the time to study for this class. Don't buy the textbook.
I loved this class. She is a great teacher, so helpful and so clear. The tests were very easy but still required studying and time spent reading the material. If you really spend time on her study questions, you will ACE the tests. I strongly recommend this class and professor Garver! :)
Very clear and straight forward. There is a lot of material and you must go to lab, highly suggest going to lecture. Enjoyed and learned a lot from her and my GTA, study at least 2-3 full days prior to the exams. Prepare to memorize a lot! Study groups help. No book needed. GO TO OPEN LAB! It will help a LOT!
this class is DIFFICULT. do NOT slack off, study every week as if you have a test and you will do amazing! rack up quiz points by studying the LECTURE. go to open lab. study with groups. goodluck!
I did not need this course, but was extremely interested in the material. However, it was the most worthless class I have ever taken. I think the professor must write her own reviews... This is NOT a lab class, it is a 8 hour a week lecture class with excessive memorization. It is a complete waste of time. Please take this class elsewhere.
ALL MEMORIZATION. make flash cards and study hard and an A or B is very attainable. *This class really does require about 2 hours a day of work.
This class takes TONS of time. It's very time consuming and I studied like 2 hours per day and still got a D because memorization is not mah thing. Taking this a a CC so hopefully it's easier.
Great professor. Easy A. Grade consists of 4 exams and a cumulative final, but she drops your lowest score. Attendance gives you bonus points and she has one extra credit opportunity that's worth 20% of a test grade. And she has a huge curve (84% and up is an A). Take this class.
There's 4 tests & 1 Final. If you like your grade with the 4 tests, then you don't have to take the final. She gives out study guides. Honestly, if you do the study guides and practice them, you'll get an A. Oh, btw 85% is an A in her class. I recommend her.
Overall good class, subject matter presented in a concise manner. Helpful and clear method of teaching. Attendance and an optional lab for extra credit. Reading the book highly recommended. If you put in the work and care about the class, you will be fine.
Sandra is great professor ! I would suggest students utilize her friday office hours. Go and she will look over your essay questions for the exam and explain the processes very throughly. If you want to pass this class and get an A I would suggest you go to every friday review offered. quizzes based on lectured mostly, learn everything in PP's
I STRONGLY suggest to go to open lab on Fridays. The material itself isn't difficult. Just take the time to recognize and memorize parts. You do most of your learning of the material in Lab, so don't be afraid to ask questions to your TA. Good luck! She says textbook is needed but you don't really use it unless you don't understand.
She's amazing!!! She gets the class involved sometimes to help remember the lessons.
There is a ton of information in this class, but most of it is memorization with a few concepts. I didn't go to one open lab and got an A. If something doesn't make sense, these labs may be helpful. Put the time into knowing what is where and pay particular attention to microscope slides.
Hardest, yet easiest class ever. There is a ton of material that you must learn in short amounts of time. Attend EVERY lecture, lab(and stay after to go over material) and lab review day to study. After a lecture or lab, study the material that day. This class requires lots of time but it is so rewarding. Prepare accordingly and the tests are easy.
LOVE Sandy!!! Please take this anatomy class. Super hands on, extremely fair, clear and concise. The way she tests students adapts to all learning types. Textbook wasn't really necessary, but I found it helpful. Attend Friday review lab!!
Professor Garver's "The Human Body" course was an entry-level class in physiology and anatomy. To be honest, I took a physiology course in high school that was far more in-depth and complex. That being said, I appreciated how clear she was on what was expected of the course. 4 tests, and an optional final. An 84% is an A. Wow.
Took it in fall 2014. Very clear about what she wants, makes concepts easy to understand. Helps with answers to essay questions before the test during office hours. A is guaranteed if you study her lectures, your lab manual, and go to Friday open lab. Don't buy the textbook.
Sandy is one of the best teachers I have every had in my academic career. Her lectures are clear and full of information, she truly wants all her students to succeed. The class itself is not easy but there are so many resources that can be used to succeed.
1) Never skip lecture (clicker bonus, fill in incomplete pdf files), 2) ONLY study lecture notes from pdf files that she provides for every quiz (Study EVERYTHING), 3) Make some organized lists of all the anatomy terms in lab (from model, chart, cadaver, microscope), 4) All tests are straightforward, so just MEMORIZE, there's no critical thinking.
It is a hard class, but don't feel discouraged. There were 5 exams & 10 quizzes. I got D on my first and C on my second exam, but still ended up with a B. She doesn't give out minus grade, so 89.45% means an A, not A-. Don't procastinate, make sure to make ORGANIZED notes from pdf lecture file. She offers bonus points from attending lectures & lab.
I was scared from previous reviews, but this class was awesome! I'm interested in the course tho. You literally have to know every model and what's in the lab manual, as well as the ppt notes. No need for book, I never used it. Used the pal cd for clarification. I studied in lib w bone boxes + Friday review labs(!!!) it was fun getting it down.
I think what made the class hard was the fact that there was so much information to remember. Sandy was a good teacher who knew what she was talking about, but I thought the labs were too long (labs are twice a week, 2.5 hours each). Sometimes, it also seemed like she didn't have enough time to cover everything and rushed through powerpoints.
If you love anatomy and are good at memorizing, you will get an A+ like me. sandy is the best and she is super nice and helpful. she has amazing resources for you so getting a good grade is basically all about the effort you put into the class. i would take this class over and over again if i could! best professor I've had at state
There is too much content in this class for one semester! This professor pushes quantity not quality. Half of the students end up data dumping, and the other half have to repeat the course. There are many CC's with transferable courses, where the instructor has a more realistic approach to this course, and you are able to better succeed.
Conceptually speaking, this class wasn't to difficult. There is a lot of memorization though and the labs were extremely long and tedious (the labs meet twice a week and are over 2 and a half hours). Sandy was a good teacher and made the content very clear.
One of the best teachers I've ever had, not only is she very passionate about anatomy, but she is there for you and cares about you passing. This class is really tough, and requires a lot of studying, however the material is really interesting. If you fail this class is because you didn't study hard enough. Quizzes are easy, exams are tough.
Wonderful class. The lectures are very straightforward and if you don't come, you won't pass. Usually doesn't finish the lectures so she uploads videos a lot of the time. Actually read the textbook. 5 tests, 10 quizzes. Study hard and you should pass.
This class is the epitome of "what you put in is what you get". Tests and quizzes aren't difficult or meant to trick you, you just have to study the information. You can't just wing it because most of this isn't just everyday common knowledge. Five tests, no cumulative final, and ten quizzes (one is dropped). Don't be scared of this class!!
If you really give it a lot of time you'll do well but I wouldn't take it with a heavy workload - it took up so much of my time because I was shooting for an A both here & my other hard classes so it became a bit stressful. I don't know why her rating is so high, you'll learn practically everything from your TA in lab instead (so pick a good one)
5 exams. Studied the lab manual two nights before and lecture notes one night before quizzes and got As. Did the same thing for exams and got As on each. Take advantage of review lab sessions during class and on Fridays to practice labeling charts, models, etc. that'll be on the test. Hardest part was histology &OIAs. Answers essays in office hours
.5 exams, 10 quizzes, 5 homework assignments. Tough class and you definitely have to work for you grade. Take this class seriously from the start and study long and hard. Go to lecture because she doesn't post her full slides on BB and it's on quizzes and exams. Great lab instructors too.
Sandra gives her student everything that they need to succeed, but you need to use that to your advantage. If you do not study very much, you WILL NOT pass. Staying ahead of the game is necessary when approaching this class. It is very easy and simple if you put in the effort necessary. She is always willing to answers questions and really cares!
Not a class you can breeze through, you have to work for it but if you study and are actually interested it isn't hard to get an A. Grade is made up of 5 tests (not cumulative), 10 quizzes, 5 hw assignments, clicker points, and bonus points (which boost you up a lot). No +/-s. She gives you essay questions ahead of time so study those the most.
Garver is a very thorough professor. Her lectures are packed with material and she goes through them pretty fast. Her exams, which are taken in your lab section, include EVERYTHING she goes over in lecture - so don't miss class. Definitely use her office hours and Friday review labs. For me, I got through the class just fine without the textbook.
Read the book! If you don't then you will be sorry... Always attend class. She gives 10 points for extra credit if you do, but this doesn't count for much since the class is out of roughly 2000 points. The lectures are boring, but make sure to study the slides for the quizzes. Also, pick out an experienced TA so they know what they are doing!!!
Hardest class I've ever taken, tests are a potion of 30 stations were you get 4 minutes for each. and you can't go back to any stations. although the tests were insane the quizzes were not too bad.
You learn mostly in lab, but pay attention to her lecture! The things in the lecture are the multiple choice questions on the test. She's a good professor and as long as you go to lecture and lab, you'll get an A.
Loved this class! It was definitely one of the hardest classes but is so interesting! Sandra loves teaching and tries to make it as easy as possible to learn a difficult subject! (Quizzes and MC are all based on lecture!) The exams are tough but you have to learn how to study for them. I finally figured it out on the last 2 tests and got 95%+.
Too hard of a class that goes too fast. She doesn't want you to have a life for a semester and you should take a minimal amount of units when enrolled in this. It's only 4 credits and should be more because the labs are practically another lecture and this class consumes so much time per week.
garver herself is a fair professor, she talks slow enough that i don't feel too overwhelmed in a class that has A LOT of content. she really does know what she's talking about. as for the class- be prepared to spend your whole semester memorizing for this class. YOU CAN NEVER MEMORIZE IT ALL. THERE'S TOO MUCH!! don't get the the textbook, no use
Biol 335 ONLINE... A TON of reading. Professor Garver gives you everything you need to pass. Read the chapters and look over the chapter notes she provides before taking quizzes and exams. If you dont do this then do not take the class because it requires a lot of studying. I worked diligently to receive my A-
Don't buy the book, you won't use it. Just buy access to PAl online. This course is full of memorization so prepare yourself . Make use of open lab because they put out all the charts and models they use on the exam.
i am highkey an idiot but got an A in the class because I studied it every night before i slept. the class is not super hard, but the material to memorize really stacks up. it's a really fair class and she gives you 40 bonus points at the end. make sure to get a decent TA since you do all the learning in lab. i had reagan, she was awesome!
By far the hardest class I've taken at State, but Sandy was also probably one of the best professors I've had. This course has so much information crammed into such a little time. When Sandy warns you to have the rest of your semester light, LISTEN TO HER! I did not because other professors claim their class is hard when it's not. THIS ONE IS!
She will say the textbook is mandatory, it is not. The only unit you really need it for is the nervous system in which case just ask some one else for pics. Dont get this confused witb the lab notebook which is absolutely mandatory. Also the pal CD can be found online so don't buy that either
She's a great lecturer, but the material can be overwhelming. Her tests can be very specific sometimes and most of it is free response. There are 5 tests throughout the semester and they're almost always about 2 hours long and it takes the entire time to complete. You definitely need to stay on top of studying or it's super hard to catch up.
Very tough class, but an A is possible if you put in the effort! Attend all lectures, make Quizlets, and attend at least the two Friday review labs before an exam. Book isn't really necessary, only for labeling. Keep your semester a bit lighter with this course and study AHEAD of time! This is an amazing class and you will learn a lot! Good luck!
Very very time consuming course, but put in the effort & you'll get a good grade. 5 exams. All pretty straight forward but MEMORIZE EVERYTHING. Professor Garver is a very good lecturer and makes the concepts very easy to grasp. Friday review labs helped me a lot. Don't buy the book and opt out of the online version as well.
Honestly one of the hardest classes I've taken BUT it is possible to get an A or B! Sandy goes through everything you need and should know! Just put in the work and you'll be fine. Friday review labs help immensely and definitely use any resource she has up on blackboard. Plus, there are 40 bonus points at the end of the semester which helps a lot.
Anatomy is a great class and Garver really wants her students to learn. Labs are long but interesting. This class requires A LOT of outside studying, and you definitely have to earn your grade. Go to Friday review labs and stud histology! Lecture material is only in the multiple choice part of the test. Josh was an awesome TA!!
A lot of information, but very knowledgeable on the subject matter. Open note tests, a lot of lectures to listen to, but most of the lecture material is on the test and it is broken down in layman's terms.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken in my life. The tests are 75% fill in the blank and 25% multiple choice. Make sure you go to every lecture and every lab. The class takes ALOT of studying but going to Friday review labs helps a ton because there are TAs that help you out individually. Really hard to get an A, but not impossible.
Quizzes every other week, 5 practical style exams throughout the semester. Sandra is very knowledgeable, and I really enjoyed her class structure and teaching style. Tests are very fair. Doable class if you put in the time to study lectures and lab info. Gives clicker points most classes and tells you the written exam questions before each exam.
Phenomenal professor and class! I recommend taking electronic notes and copying them after class so you can get all the information. You definitely need to put in a ton of effort and studying, but an A is definitely attainable. There's 40 points of extra credit, and bombing a test won't ruin your grade. Favorite class of my life, I learned a ton!
Sandra is a great professor and is great at explaining the material. The class is really hard, but if you put in the time and effort, you will get an A. You have to study A LOT because everything is really memorization. There's an online quiz every week and 5 practical exams which were decently hard. Attend all her lectures and take good notes.
The class is somehow both easy and hard. It's easy to get an A overall due to the amount of points, but learning the material is kinda hard because it's pure memorization. Garver is a phenomenal professor who really knows her stuff and her tests are extremely fair. Pay close attention in class, lab, and DEFINITELY go to Friday review labs!
This class is mainly memorization, but there is 40 points of extra credit if you just show up to 80% lecture and go to every lab. She explains what will be on each exam, even giving the essay questions in advance. You really have to work hard in this class, studying four days in advance at least. However, an A is attainable. Good lecturer as well.
A completely fine class. Online lectures are mandatory to watch, as there are graded questions throughout them. 6 quizzes, 6 exams, and a optinal final. If you need this for GE I would take it.
This class consisted of 2 lectures a week, with usually 2 parts to each lecture. The lectures have questions throughout the video usually 2 that you have to answer for credit. There's mastering biology hw, a quiz, and an exam for each module. The class is pretty easy, and you also can't open a new window during your exams or it will submit itself.
Professor Garver is fantastic. If you are pre-medical student take her. She will help prepare you. If not, use Google for her tests because they are timed and not easy. She offers tons of extra credit, and is VERY EASY to get ahold of via email. Theres 6 quizzes and 6 exams. Youll need google for all of them. The HW is EASY points. Id take her agai
Lots of info so she goes fast but is very good at providing explanations. Puts fill in blank lecture notes on BlackBoard, records lectures & offers extra credit on every exam & for showing up to lecture & lab. Tells you essay questions for each exam weeks before it, drops lowest quiz score, makes sure you know the info but makes it easy to succeed
Out of all of my professors during this pandemic, she is the least understanding, least empathetic, and most rude. She increased the workload 10 fold. Gets upset when students bring up issues about the class. She does not care that we are in the middle of a crisis. Take this class if you want to learn useless details from a demeaning professor.
Horrible professor. Loves to hear herself talk. Assigns way too much work. Not a nice individual. Expects too much from students.
In the middle of the COVID 19 crisis, Garver has been my least accommodating and least understanding professor. She isnt taking input from her hundreds of students who are struggling with her online class format and instead has a demeaning attitude towards us for trying to better our quality of learning. The quality of learning has down, severely!
Prof Garver is one of my favorite professors at SDSU. She's extremely knowledgable and knows how to approach teaching the material so that it is easy to understand. She keeps the schedule/grading very clear, so you will never be confused about what is next. She's very understanding and genuinely cares about her students. Makes a difficult class fun
Im pretty sure every good review is planted from her UTAs because it is not an accurate reflection. Do not expect an easy A... or B. Get ready to WORK! She expects you to memorize and master roughly 100 pages of the lab book to get even a passing grade on a test, which are roughly only 2 weeks apart. Plan you schedule accordingly! Good luck!! :(
Wanting to become a nurse, I care less about myself and more about the people around me. Sandy is definitely not the same. Going through the COVID-19 pandemic has been stressful on everyone, whether it be the sudden changes, financial instability, or knowing those who have been diagnosed with the virus. She 100% did not take this in to account.
She teaches well and provides you with the information needed for exams. The class is fast paced, you need to study everyday if you want an A. Knows her stuff, but her attitude is very condescending. Believes student concerns are complaints. Thinks about herself and its hard to believe she believes in her students success. Good luck in the class
Here's the situation. The World: COVID-19/ Universities: REQUIRED students to transition to online classes. Unable to use SDSU resources/ Parents: Let go from jobs/ Me: No laptop w/a webcam. Ms. Garver: Increased difficulty of testing & amount of hw. Required students to have a webcam; If you don't, you are penalized w/less time to complete exam.
In the midst of COVID19, many students have to work overtime to support their families during a period of immense financial strain. > 50% of the Spring2020 class signed an email in solidarity with these students, asking her to revise her syllabus to better accommodate them during these times. She responded rudely, suggesting that they withdraw.
She is extremely rude and condescending to students who try to politely voice their concerns. During COVID-19 students are facing difficult times, yet she's making the class harder than it was in person. The quality of our education decreased while expectations have increased. She's knowledgeable but making this class a horrible experience.
extremely inconsiderate about covid-19 situation and is making her already challenging class even harder online. when sdsu kicked us out of housing, she still put up a quiz the day of and said no exceptions EVEN IF WE'RE PANICKING TO MOVE OUT AND TRAVEL HOME
She is the meanest professor I have ever had. I will never forget how poorly she treated students during coronavirus. She is making life much harder than it needs to be. Do not take this course online. Itll take up all of your time.
I used to like her but then bc of COVID19, many have to work overtime to support their families and lack tech/educational resources. Then > 1/2 of the Spring2020 class signed an email in solidarity, asking her to revise her expectations during these times. She responded very passive aggressively & with not even an ounce of empathy. expects the MOST
Sandy is very thorough and understanding in her lectures. She always has office hours that are encouraged for clarity and she cares about her student's understanding. Bio 212 is one of the more challenging classes I have taken at SDSU but with a helpful aid it is definitely doable.
Has no empathy for those having troubles during COVID19. Can't remember a time during her lectures when she asked how everyone is doing/ offered her help during this difficult time. A majority of her students wrote her a very kind, well-written email voicing CONCERNS/SUGGESTIONS to make THEIR education better, & she told us to stop complaining. SMH
During the coronavirus crisis, she doesn't express even the slightest amount of empathy and instead, sends passive aggressive & unprofessional emails. It's scary. Managing this class online is already difficult, but not having an understanding professor makes it 100x worse. The class in person was a lot of work, but the resources helped. Good luck!
I have never met a person with a bigger ego. During COVID19 she doubled the work load so lectures were twice as long, labs were twice as long with youtube video lectures added, and homework doubled. When students voiced their concerns she sent back a condescending email and lacked any empathy. extremely rude professor good luck if u have her online
I would never take this professor again simply by how she treats her students. She does not care for her students at all and blatantly ignores their needs even when shown documentation. I have never had a professor in my life, besides her, that has made me feel so little and worthless. Dont bother trying to talk to her, she will not reason with you
Sandy is thorough and great at explaining things. Go to her office hours because she clarifies what you are confused on and is willing to work with you to fix a problem you're having. Did a great job during COVID-19 in maintaining the integrity of the course. It isn't easy, but makes me feel like I am still getting the quality of in-person class
Sandy is a knowledgeable teacher and has lots of experience. The class is a lot of work, but it is anatomy which is understandable. Keep up with the content, study daily and you'll succeed. My biggest complaint is the passive aggressive and rude emails sent by Sandy, even when basic questions are asked over email. Way worse during COVID!
Sandra put in MANY hours to make the switch to online as beneficial to her students after COVID. She's a GREAT prof with much empathy. Students asked for the last 3 tests to be open note and no respondus monitor for a very rigorous course needed for the medical field. She had every right to feel angry that students wanted an out from studying.
Sandy is the absolute best! The class isnt inherently difficult but you will need to study an immense amount outside of class due to the sheer amount of information you will learn. If you put the time in, you will do well. Take advantage of the UTAs, they have lots of valuable advice. Tons of points available in the class.
Sandy is a great who is knowledgable with the content if you have any questions I highly suggest approaching her as she is helpful. She got a lot of crap when we switched to online learning for COVID-19 but I am appreciative of the way in which she maintained the integrity of the course. Study hard, get advice for the UTAs, and go to Friday review!
Professor Garver is one of the greatest teachers I know at sdsu. She knows the material really well. The class is tough but an A is possible! People are complaining how she has no empathy only bc we had to use a camera for the exam. However, she really does care for her students! Ive learned so much from her and would take her class again!
Really easy online course. The modules are very structured and offer a lot of easy points to maintain a high grade. Its definitely a lot of work but if you keep up with the readings and lectures youll be fine
Probably my favorite class I took at state so far. Not gonna lie, it required a solid effort to get an A. All the material was amazingly interesting, the human body is so complex and interconnected. All you gotta do to be successful is study hard and prepare well. The material is just pure memorization, and there is a lot of it. Good luck!
Sandy is one of the most knowledgeable professors that I have come across at SDSU. When the course went online, she put so much time and effort into helping us adapt and have a good amount of resources in order to finish out the class strong. This class is definitely a lot of work, but that is expected in an anatomy course.
This class is an easy A and prof Garver is very clear about how the online class is structured. I recommend.
Sandy is an amazing and knowledgeable professor, and I learned so much in her class. She does a great job of preparing her students for health professions. It's a lot of material and you definitely need put in the work outside of class to earn an A, which is reasonable for anatomy. Study and go to Friday review labs & you'll do great!
Super test heavy. I do not recommend you take it with her ! Go take at a community college or with someone else.
during the pandemic, she was very rude to students asking for help managing the class by sending condescending emails, and essentially telling students they are not allowed to email her any longer. did not take into account any students situations, and added in extra assignments and lectures because she thinks we have all this free time. good luck.
Sandy was not understanding or kind about the COVID-19 situation at all. Students used to love her, but her true colors came out when she made students pay for online cameras and forced us to watch hours worth of lectures and do online zoom labs for hours even though our college experience got ruined. Hard class. Not kind teacher. Good luck folks.
Professor Garver was an amazing professor, especially for an online biology class. She is always on top of things, whether its reminding you about exams and quizes via email, or responding to questions you may have. There are a lot of assignments, but its not unmanageable. Put the work in and you'll get that A.
Professor Garver is very knowledgeable about the subject, it is clear she is passionate about what she teaches. However, she lacks empathy, with this whole COVID situation she turned her back on her students; made class tons harder by increasing lecture time, homework load, and not being considerate of the difficult situation students were facing.
I loved Professor Garver's online The Human Body course. I took the course to fulfill my upper division science explorations. 6 quizzes, 6 exams, optional final, and easy homework! Exams and quizzes are simple if you take notes on her weekly powerpoints. I barely used the textbook. She responds quickly to emails and wants her students to succeed!
Professor Garver's class is fine until there is an issue. If you have any issue in your personal life or even in the class she is completely unhelpful to the point where you feel upset for even asking in the first place. If you want a professor that actually cares about their students, find a different class section.
Took this class for Summer session. Very simple class, basically each week consisted of 5 lectures with clickers, quiz early in the week, and an exam on a sunday. As long as you take good notes and pay attention during lectures you'll do great. All questions come straight from lectures. Textbook not really needed.
I took Dr. Garver's class in Fall 19 and even though anatomy was such a difficult class, I enjoyed learning about it. Her lectures are long and you really have to pay attention to understand the lessons. She will have blanks on the notes she posts online, w/c is why you have to attend class & cuts off the last few mins of lecture in video. Goodluck
DO NOT TAKE. Tons of work & tons of reading in a short amount of time. This prof records your face and keystrokes during exams && quizzes. Doesn't give study guides. If you miss part of a PlayPosit question you get a 0. Not to mention finding what's due & where to do it is SO CONFUSING. Worst 100 class I've ever almost taken.
Thus far, she has been extremely lazy. You can tell the class material hasn't been touched in years, and all of the due dates are incorrect for the quizzes and hw assignments. The schedule doesn't equate to what is set on the hw assignments.
Terrible class. Taking this 100 level as a GE and it is extremely hard. She words questions on quizzes/ exams in strange ways just to avoid cheating. All quizzes and exam are on lockdown browser and require a camera. Do not take as an "easy GE", you will be upset with how hard this class is.
The exams are worded terribly, require a lockdown browser with camera. No notes allowed unlike other BIO100 classes. Questions are worded like she is trying to fail you. I am a ME major taking statics, differential equations, materials, and other difficult classes and this class is my lowest grade. That should tell you something.
This class really is not as bad as people say it is. All I do is watch her lecture videos before a test and I get an A every time, and this is coming from someone who was never good at science. She does care about her students but she's not going to just hand out A's like everyone expects. It is intimidating at first but it is seriously not bad.
If human anatomy is the field you're going into, this is the prof to take. She has a consistent method of teaching that she stands by, and has amazing, depersonalized rapport with her students. She will even write you a professional letter of rec if you take the sequential anatomy lab internship class! I learned everything I know from this one. GL!
Take notes on the module lectures and read through the textbook but you really need to go read through twice if you want to pass because of the way she words the quizzes/tests. PlayPosits or the MasteringHW suck because you lose points if you choose the wrong answer. Overall, the worst thing is that she doesn't let you review quiz/exam answers.
This is by far the hardest 100 level course I have ever taken at SDSU. It is extremely difficult to succeed in this class since everything is weighted equally. There are 6 tests and 6 quizzes in the course. Not only can you not go back to look at your answers, but she doesn't let you see what questions you got wrong. Avoid this class if you can!
Not an easy GE. I studied for weeks before each quiz/exam, & managed to range in the Bs on them. Doesn't let you use your notes on exams, which is frustrating since it is a non-bio major course. When I needed help, she did give me good feedback and was accessible. She offered extra credit too. She's not a bad prof, just makes the course too hard.
intense materials and also include difficult test that will take 3-4 hrs and its proctored. This class will consume a lot of your time even though it states it is only 4units class, which I think should be 5 or 6 units , so make this class your priority. Lots of homework, and reading. I was stressed a lot in this class. lab class is long.
very very time-consuming. like extremely time-consuming. definitely had a good amount of mental breakdowns because of this class but that is just because I care about my grade and so I put in a lot of time and effort and energy into this class and it did pay off because I got an A but it was really stressful. So go in strong and leave strong
