I love taking ASL I with Sandra! She is incredibly funny and energetic and passionate and kind. This class is not an easy one, however! You have to show up to learn the vocab and the grammar, you have to do the homework to hone your understanding, and you have to practice practice practice! Also, don't be a jerk and talk in class, bc she's Deaf.

One of the sweetest and funniest teachers I've ever had. She seems to really care about her students grades and is always willing to help if you feel confused or behind.

ASL was a lot harder than I had expected but Sandra was very helpful and went through things well. It wont take long for your confusion in ASL to become you laughing as what she is saying. You have to stay on top on the work loud and practice the language or you will fall behind.

MUST GO TO CLASS!! Exams are challenging, but if you practice practice practice, you will pass no problem! Sandra is a GREAT professor, I highly recommend! I took Sandra for my first ASL class and I LOVED her! I wish I had taken this class sooner so I could take ASL 2 but I am graduating. There is a lot of homework but it really helps learning. Professor Germinaro's ASL class teaches a lot. She begins the first day of class with a translator, but for the rest of her class there is ZERO talking and it relies solely on ASL. The course has 5 exams which make up your entire grade. Homework and participation/attendance are required but do not contribute to class total. It is not an easy A.

Sandra is a good teacher, but she treats her students as if we're in high school. She will not let the class leave early, and if you are late she marks you with half attendance. There is a lot of papers required that MUST be properly cited every single time, but she does let you go back to correct your work. Overall, frustrating, but good.

Took her ASL 1 class and I loved the way she taught the class. I notice that she was teaching SPED 662 and I added her class right away. Her class on Deaf and Hard of Hearing children are interesting and eye opening. Taking notes and doing the readings will help you with the test.

ASL 1 was amazing! I loved taking her class because she teaches you not just the language, but the culture of how to use it properly. Yes, ASL is something completely different then your typical 'language' class but it is so worth it! She is open to questions and assures that all of the students are all on the same level.

Ms. Germinaro was really animated, funny, and patient with students. You're not allowed to use your voice in class, which helps you immerse in ASL including Deaf Culture. Take her ASL 1 class, Sandra is amazing! She only communicates through ASL or if you write to her, so be aware of that. Other than that, show up to class on time and do the work and ASL isn't going to be too bad. Excellent professor! I took ASL for 3 years in high school and this course was a great refresher. The structure of the course is brilliant, I learned so much even with my ASL background. New Book needed. Exams are difficult, mostly because there is so much to cover. Overall excellent!

SPED 0688-03 is a difficult to learn but Mrs. Germinaro is a great teacher . If you have any questions or if you need clarifications , she will answer and make sure you understand before she moves on to teach something else. Also, try not to miss class because you will fall behind.

THIS CLASS IS AWESOME! not only do you get to learn ASL, but you get to learn about Deaf culture and how to be a Deaf ally. ASL is visual language so it's important to come to each class, see the professor explain signs, and then get a chance to practice with your partner. There's a quiz at the beginning of each class, so make sure you review!

This teacher has work to do but is doable! Homework and quiz almost every class. There is three test for the final (childhood story, interview, and comprehension exam)/ The Professor is very caring and wants you to learn. She is always there to help you and she has a very positive vibe. She makes you want to go and learn because of her positivity.

She has many classes so she gets busy and may take time to reply via email. However, that does not prevent her from taking time to clarify concepts during class and office hours. Germinaro is very helpful in class and answers any questions that you might have. If you struggle it's best to go to her office hours because it's difficult to reach her at her email. Prof. Germinaro is very helpful and a great teacher. At first, I was nervous since she is Deaf, but she is there to teach you so I got comfortable and wasn't intimated.

This class was honestly the funnest class I've taken at SF State. Learning the beauty of American Sign Language is something I have always wanted to do but having Sandra as a teacher made the experience 10 times better!

Professor Geminaro helped the class learn so much about Deaf culture. I also successfully was able to learn a lot of signs and her willingness to help guide students made the class more enjoyable. Just from her energy and effort to teach ASL motivated me to pay attention and actually learn the language.

She genuinely cares that you understand the material, and will take the time to personally help and answer questions in a timely manner. She's energetic and engaging; would take again!

I truly enjoyed this class. Really opened my eyes to Deaf culture while learning the basics of sign language.

Prof. Germinaro made the class really fun and was really patient with everyone in the class, she would repeat any signs or topics that a student did not understand. Walking into class you will not feel intimidated, and it was really welcoming to learn ASL. Make sure you attend class, do your weekly homework assignments to achieve a good grade.

I love Sandra!! She's funny, caring, and really wants to help you learn and be exposed to the Deaf culture. She's is great.

Prof. Germinario is very helpful, if you ask her to repeat something she would. shes not intimidating at all. if u need help you can always ask her and email her. i 100 % recommend her if you are tryin to learn ASL she makes it fun and shows it very well. i though i would struggle but shes really good at communication something new.

Professor Germinaro is a gem. She cares that you understand the information and have a chance to discuss it and ask questions. She will ask you to write reflection papers, along with a few other papers. There is a mid term and a final exam. You will need to do the readings to do the homework. She will also cover everything in class. Very fair

Learned a great deal about the Deaf Community and culture through Sandra! Homework(reading, reflection papers, asking questions), group work, and tests are generally easy if you pay attention during class. She is very approachable and has a good sense of humor that keeps you awake!

Sandra made learning a new language (ASL) very enjoyable and surprisingly easy! Most of class time is strictly dedicated to learning and practicing signs. Although there are workbook pages for homework, they are easy. No papers. Tests are fair. Have good attendance and focus- you'll get an easy A

Sandra was honestly one of the best professors I have ever had and worked so much for her students. The class itself is not hard, but actually putting effort into your signing outside of class helps so much. And really not using your voice or mouthing in class creates an environment for everyone to learn and comprehend conversations in sign.

Great professor ! She so sweet and takes the time to give you the extra clarifications when you don't understand , her class is always fun and very entertaining. Don't think because she's deaf you can get away with anything she's very visual and just like any other person. Definitely would take this professor again.

This class was so great thanks to a Professor Germinaro! I did not have any knowledge of ASL before taking this class and I would definitely recommend this course to future students!! Pay attention in class and dont fall behind on homework and you will be great!

Sandra was super sweet and funny but she always reminds us that its a privilege to be taking her class so do not take advantage of it by skipping or not doing the hw. she makes learning ASL fun and is always open to answering questions or clarifying confusion. I really enjoyed taking her class. It did become more difficult but definetly worth it!

Professor Germinaro is seriously so caring. If you do not understand a sign or understand what's going on, do not hesitate to ask, she'll gladly help you. Try and make it to all the class meetings because we're learning something new every day, so missing a day can make you fall a little behind. I would definitely take her again!

If youre looking to actually learn the subject, take this teacher. If youre looking for an easy A, take someone else. This class is complete immersion and requires attendance. You wont be disappointed though because this teacher is fun and you will learn the subject matter.

Sandra is a wonderful teacher. She really cares to make sure you understand the material she teaches. Absolutely cannot skip class. Hella homework. Tough, tough final. 3 finals!!!!

The topic is very interesting to lean. And the professor is very good at teaching ASL. But definitely take all parts of the Final seriously. Some parts seem like they would be way easy but on the spot it got pretty easy to forget. You have homework after every class. Homework is out of the text book every time. All in all a pretty good course!

Professor Germinaro is such great professor! I would definitely recommend her if you are looking to take ASL or Education of Deaf/Hard of Hearing Children class. You will learn a lot about about Deaf culture/community from her personal experience as well as from the classroom discussion/projects we had.

Professor Germinaro is one of the best language teachers I've had, the way she teaches is easy to understand and you can always ask her to repeat if you don't get it the first time. She's available for meetings and as long as you do homework and practice you should do fine. But for fair warning, for the midterm do not brush over numbers. Trust me.

Sandra is an awesome professor and is very passionate about the subject she teaches, however she does give a lot of assignments throughout the semester. Especially during finals, she assigned about three projects for her final. I took her for two classes, sped 662 and 668 and I was overwhelmed with the projects. Overall tho I loved the classes.

Highly recommend taking ASL with Sandra! MUST DO: Come and participate in class (don't skip any practice time you have even the homework). All that you learn in class will be on the tests (both midterm and finals): one comprehension and one signing in front of Sandra (don't be nervous she's very respectful and allows you to correct yourself).

She's a unique professor and has some good jokes to go along with the course. This class is a bit difficult but if you do what you need to do and pay attention in class then you should be good in this class. She provides help in and after class when you don't understand an assignment or need help with signing.

Sandra is a gem. I always leave this class with a smile on my face and feel confident using ASL outside of the classroom. She acknowledges student learning styles and is extremely patient with all students. The exams are challenging but fair. She cracks jokes and really has perfected her teaching style. Show up for class and participate!!

Attending class is key to passing this class. Everyday you learn new signs and practice them. This is one class I hated missing when I was sick. You will fall behind fast. Stay on top of the homework so you don't fall behind. You also learn a lot of important information about Deaf Culture.

Professor Germinaro is a great ASL teacher. She teaches you how to sign really well and even teaches you about Deaf culture. You have to attend class EVERYDAY or you'll fall behind and your grade drops significantly. It's not a super hard class if you pay attention, do the homework, and practice signing with your classmates properly.

She is very enthusiastic and passionate about her teaching. I was always intrigued during her classes. She would always take the time to help others who did not understand the material. It is important to do the homework because it helps you keep up with the class. I would take her class again just because of her.

As someone with some hearing loss, I've always wanted to learn ASL but I haven't had the opportunity to do so before my last semester at SFSU. I'm so glad that I took this course! Definitely challenging but it is also very rewarding. Professor Germinaro is always willing to help her students when they need her :)

If you do your homework and show up everyday to class and follow along with the lesson, you should be fine. It takes time and practice, just line any other language.

Prof Germinaro was an amazing teacher of ASL, I learned so much this semester and can't wait until the next course I take with her. Since it is a language, it can be very difficult sometimes, but Germinaro is easily approachable and wants you to learn and pass. Highly recommended, just have to put in the effort to learn.

She's informative and always happy to help when you want to know the sign for something. It would have been helpful if there was more group activities (with the whole class) as we had in the beginning. Also if she walked around the classroom more often during our A & B conversations so we could make sure we're signing correctly.

I really enjoyed this class it surpassed my expectations. Skipping class will hurt your grade, do all assigned homework on time, participate, and show up on time to class so you can pass class. Some material maybe take a little longer to memorize but not as hard as you think. I highly recommend taking Sandra Germinaro as your ASL instructor.

Very Inspirational. Not a lot of outside work, rather than just making sure you go to class or else you'll miss outside information not mentioned in the text book. Small class size so it makes it easy to work with one another.

She is a passionate ASL teacher who makes coming to class enjoyable by being really patient and understanding. She makes sure everyone understands the concepts or vocab before moving on and holds office hours if we need extra help. Attendance is extremely important and you will lose points and miss out on her lessons, which will be on the exams.

This professor is one of the kind. She is amazing and always comes prepared. But it is very important that you show up to her class otherwise you will miss out on a lot of information. She doesn't share her slides or post them online, so be ready to take notes! This professor cares about what her students. I learned so much from her class :)

A lot of material was reviewed but the atmosphere of the course was great. The professor is very understanding and always had interesting topics to go over. Took forever to grade but she does have other classes to worry about.

This class was amazing. A lot of material is covered but its hard to notice because this professor is so passionate about what she is teaching. Not many tests: just the midterm and the final. Regular reflection papers but really easy to finish if you go to class. Attendance is mandatory but this is a class I didn't want to miss. I highly recommend.
