Sorta interesting but always got off on tangents with feminist issues. Her tests are so hard! And the papers are ridiculous
the class is some what interesting, but her tests are so hard!
I took this class 2 years ago. I still remember how awful it was. I didn't learn a thing in there. Horrible teacher...
DOnt take her. She is a horrible teacher and she will give you an F or D, just because you do not agree with her thoughts on cerain issues. She likes tomake her job easy by simply throwing out your papers, or test questions, because she dosent feel like grading them. FEMINIST if you dont like it, F!
Wow, can u say feminist? That's all good but she talks about it everyday. She makes no sense & the readings are horrible. The only way to take her tests is to guess and BS everything. She thinks she's an english teacher as well. DO NOT TAKE...YOU WILL REGRET IT
Terrible, very liberal, don't take
Nice lady but teaching is not what should be doing.Very Disorganized, has trouble expressing thoughts and grades papers like shes an english professor.Only way you will pass the class if you agree w/her completely
Hard class, and you're on your own. She'll try to help, but it's useless. Also, she's pushing a controversial agenda that most students won't agree with.
Subject is vague at best. She is what I was afraid every college prof would be: picky about writing assignments. I worked oh so very very hard for my B. She is an excellent person outside of class.
She hates men, very biased teacher, wouldn't recommend this teacher for such an interesting coarse, she destroyed my love of social sciences
Dr. Godwin is a wonderful person outside of class. Everything said so far is true though inside. She gives a ton of work, boaring readings, expect to write a lot of papers. HARD!
always willing to work w/ the classes topics... especially about current events!! awesome lady
She sucks. Umm she does not know what she is talking about EVER! She seems to be pushing the fact that women are unequal still majorly, but then she disagrees with herself. WHAT THE HELL is she doing teaching?
she's really confusing in her lectures, i just don't get very interested.
As long as you talk to her outside of class she's cool.
very liberal. class discussions are always good and easy, but then her tests and pop quizzes are impossible. she also gives tons of boring readings to do and always seems completely out of it during class.
tests are extremly difficult. she is not good at lecturing, can be confusing.
She's dumb and she dosent know what she's talking about. Most of things we do or talk about in class have nothing whatsoever to do with what we are tested on. Usually when people ask her questions she dosent understand and cant answer. I'm not really sure why she's a teacher.
very unorganized teacher. Not very clear on what she wants in an answer. Technically not too hard of a class, but she's a pain of a teacher. Nice lady, but not a good teacher.
Nice teacher but her classes lack structure. The Pop quizes are easy if you read. Her tests are hard however. It's an interesting class but the things we discuss in class often seem irrelevant.
I was confused the whole time!!! i was not very clear on what she was trying to teach. I made a C. Her tests are all true and false. Very nice and sometimes helpful.
She is a VERY nice person but definitely scatterbrained. She has a hard time staying focused it seems. Even though I was interested in the course, went to class every day, and studied, I still felt unprepared for the test because it seemed like different material than we reviewed in class.
She is extremely confusing and boring...her lectures were not focused on what we read nor what our tests covered. Going to class is hard because the class is so boring and hard to understand. I would not recommend her.
She's a very nice lady. I like the subject matter; however, she had a hard time explaining the basic perspectives of sociology. If you don't "get it" then you're lost, like most of our class, for the rest of the semester. I did not get the feeling she was expressing her liberal or feminists views. I wish there was a bit more structure to the class.
her class was useless. you will walk out of her class and not know a thing she talked about. she has no idea what she is doing. shes makes attendance mandatory because otherwise noone would show up. worst teacher i have had yet. does not answer your question, instead just rambles on about unrelated things.AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
horrible. her in class essays are absolutely terrible. she claims the only way to get a good grade on them is two write THREE essays on the reading EVERY night and memorize them so you can write it in the 15 minutes alloted in class. there is no way to make up work. her pop quizzes are daily and she tries to trick you with the questions. AVOID!
I don't see why she has such bad ratings??? I thought that she was a great teacher but I had her for a class called Gender and Society so I don't know how she teaches her other classes. She actually inspired me to want to minor in women studies but I don't have the time to add a minor. But I would definitely recommend her for Gender and Society.
Quizzes everyday. Shes kinda a ****. Shes not willing to help. Readings in two different books every class. Test are hard
boring, lots of reading, quizzes everyday, hard, wouldn't suggest
Like the challenge of staying awake take her;otherwise dont. She loves her 'flower garden' metaphor that only barely has anything todo with the material yet she applies it to all. Took all her notes and missed 1 day of class; half of the test questions I had no idea.Asked questions but she just asked us what we thought and never answered them.
I don't see why she has such bad ratings. She knows her material very well and she was very willing to help us know what to go over for tests. Make sure you read and take notes!
i think she is an amazing teacher. i took her for theory...and i learned sooooo much in her class! She is such a great teacher and is so knowledgeable!
Class is easy if you take good notes and study them. She lets you know what to study for tests. HOWEVER, I went to her office several times to get help, went to class EVERY time, and had an A up until the final. The final dropped my grade to an 89.4 AND SHE WOULDN'T BUMP IT UP. Only B of the semester. Just keep that in mind...
She has pop quizzes and you can earn points with them that have to accumulate to a certain amount at the end of the semester in order to get a good grade. Her tests aren't very hard as long as you study. She gives the class period before the test off but you can come in to ask questions which is helpful. I made a B.
Crazy hard, I did not understand any of the materials that we have cover in this class, you have tons of reading before every class, and have pop quizes over the reading. Pop quizes are easy, but the tests are hard.... If u like to read, take this class..
I went to a private conservative christian high school. The teachers were biased and uniformative. She somehow was more biased then them. She doesn't teach sociology, which is a broad study encompassing many views, she teaches the anti science you are wrong I am right class.
SO BORING. She rambles the entire class period about things unrelated to the readings. Only 2 exams (pretty tough) and various pop quizzes which are generally pretty easy. You've got to read, so if you're not a reader run far away. Reading are usually pretty boring but some alright mildly interesting.
Worst teach I have EVER had. She asks for our opinions & then tries to tell us we are wrong. She does NOT teach sociology she teaches that inequality was created by white people. She only teaches one view & that is her own. The tests are crazy hard & basically tells you to know "main points" from the readings. a's are nearly impossible.
While Dr. Godwin does have a knack of getting off topic, she is a great teacher who is passionate about her subject. Yes, there is reading- but this is college. Having an educated opinion from the text is important. Take her if you can, you will actually learn... and she certainly considers everyone else's opinions as well as her own.
Great teacher who really cares about her subject. No question about it. You will learn a lot in her class, just do the reading and participate in discussion.
good teacher
Dr. Godwin can be hard to keep up with because she is a little scattered but it is not that bad. You really do have to study hard for the tests though. She is not clear about what is on the tests so you just have to hope you're looking at the right material.
She has her own opinion and doesn't care what you think. She has reading quizzes 12 times in the semester and they're hard and a huge part of your grade. You really have to love sociology and hate white people and men to like this class
Dr. Godwin is passionate about sociology but doesn't give a crap what you think. She grades very hard and treats you like a 5 year old. 20-30 page(small font/lots of text) is mandatory for every class. It's impossible to get an A
She is a great woman but can not clearly state what she is trying to say. She grades horribly and is too detailed and if your opinion is different from hers then you are incorrect.
Very easy class. Unfortunately, I would avoid this teacher if you have any desire to express your own opinion or learn. She laughed at a student when their opinion was different from hers. The only answers that are right are her opinions. If you value your opinion, avoid the class at all costs.
HORRIBLE TEACHER. Two tests all semester and they are not easy either. She is not understanding at all and was a little rude when I asked for help. STAY AWAY.
I was all about feminism before this class. Now... not so much
One of the most genuine and caring professors I've ever encountered. Very passionate about sociology. Highly recommend.
I've taken Dr. Godwin so many times I've lost count! She's a love her or hate her teacher. She will literally go out of her way to help students. She tells me all the time how much student input influences her teaching. She's very smart but can be confusing sometimes. Her classes are easy if you read and show up, and care about sociology.
Do not take her!! You only have 2 tests and they are tough. She's not very helpful if you ask her questions.
Dr. Godwin is one of the nicest professors I have had. The class itself can be a little boring, but she definitely cares about what she reaches. Make sure you do the assigned readings because you will most always have a quiz. You only have 3 essay test and you can use your book. She grades extremely fair!
Teaches straight out of Rigging the Game; it's very dry and her opinion is the only one that matters. Even if you don't necessarily agree with it, just write what she wants to hear and you'll do fine. Definitely a very opinionated teacher, but can be a little rude sometimes in the way she handles differences in opinion.
Unfair grading and boring. 3 tests are just writing 2 essays each. Don't take this class.
Tests are essay format, in which you have to write to her opinions which tend to be very feminist. When asked what the last test was over she replied with "sociology." I taught my self outside of class a lot, she doesn't post anything online. Her grades are so unpredictable, I thought I killed the final and even wrote an extra 3 pages, and got a C.
Went to her office hours once or twice a week because I could not understand her lectures. Even her office hours didn't help. The tests are two essays then the final is an essay too. You'll read one book and that's all you get. This class screwed over my GPA. Worked harder than I should have had too and still ended up with a C.
If you're looking for an easy class to meet your gen ed requirements, this isn't it. However, if you want a class that will completely change the lens through which you see the world, take Godwin. The tests are no walk in the park--all essays. But I can say without a doubt that this is the most valuable class I've taken so far. Worth every minute.
Super nice but not a very good professor. She is not clear with directions at all and gives a lot of busy work. The work that she does give doesn't make sense with the what class you are in, no connections at all. If you love talking about farmers, take Dr. Godwin's class.
Sandra Godwin clearly cares about what she teaches, but she should not be teaching. The assignments can be unclear, and there's no telling how you did on something until you get a grade back. Class discussion is centered around her opinion. She gets flustered and changes topics when someone disagrees with her, which is especially bad in sociology.
classic sociology teacher with very strong opinions that you must agree with in order to do well in this class. only three grades the whole semester: one paper (that half the class failed), the final (which was 13 short essays), and a pop quiz point average (which were given almost every day, so you better not skip class). tough grader. avoid.
There are only a few assignments which may be a good or bad thing. Class is mildly boring sometimes but Godwin really cares about her students. Class is do-able, you just can't wait until last minute to complete assignments.
I took this class and it was awful. For one, she is not specific about what she wants for projects and presentations and she is a very tough grader. We had 3 papers throughout the course and the highest grade i got on one of them was an 82. Overall, she is a super tough grader and is very all over the place when lecturing.
I hesitate to even give "professor" Godwin a 1. I use the term "professor" very loosely because that would imply that Godwin does any sort of teaching. This class' material is very interesting, but I would NEVER take a class with Godwin again. Her grading is ridiculously hard and I genuinely believe she does no preparation for class.
Your grade consists of 4 singular grades: 3 tests and 12 pop quizzes lumped together into one grade. I would suggest not taking this class if you don't like to read text books because if you don't read, you won't do well. If you do take this course with Godwin, I suggest you outline each chapter in your book, it'll really help you with each grade.
Pop quizzes are given almost every class over the previous reading material. It is a discussion-based class, and she loves group activities. She is very passionate about her point of view and is not afraid to question other's comments. Attendance is taken every class but isn't for a grade. BUT don't ditch bc the pop quizzes are worth a ton.
Dr. Godwin is a bit all over the place in her lectures, but other than that the class was fine. If sociology confuses you or bores you, dont take it. If youre open-minded and have common knowledge about social issues, such as inequality, it will be easy. Study the handouts & powerpoints. Lots of pop quizzes but theyre not difficult.
You are graded by three tests and the total amount of pop quiz points earned by the end of the semester. Skipping will most likely ensure you missing one of these pop quizzes which end up being 25% of your grade. She assigns a lot of busy work and is very unclear about what material to study for tests. Not an easy A.
The class was pretty easy. There is homework and there are pop quizzes that are given that are based on the homework but the workload is low. Attendance isn't counted for a grade but quizzes are and you have one almost every class.
She had us do the most outrageous assignments that she even said "I have never done these before with a class". We never went over the material before hand and she expected us to know what these famous Sociologist are talking about. Our 6 page final paper ONE WEEK before it was due(during finals).Grading was absolute worst w/ no feedback at all.
Dr. Godwin is all over the place and gives no clear answer to anything. Her grading is inconsistent and it is very hard to please her. She will tell you one thing and do another. She gives minimal time to complete assignments. She gives little to no feedback on assignments and the feedback you do get usually makes zero sense.
I wish I took this course with a different professor. The tests were pretty confusing. I considered myself a strong student in this class and consistently made high B's on the tests. There were pop quizzes almost every class over long readings. Lots of busy work just to fill class time. Overall, do not take Godwin if you plan to take this class.
Dr. Godwin is a very sweet person. However you are graded by very few things which makes the fairness of grades difficult. There are pop quizzes every class based on power point slides or the book assigned. Do not take this class if you are not willing to read or enjoy sociology.
It's not necessarily a difficult class, however she does not teach. Everything you learn in this class will be over the book she makes you read, movies, and PowerPoints she does not go over. She's a sweet lady, but this class is one of the worst. Attendance is not mandatory, but there are pop quizzes almost every day.
She gives 2 tests and a final that covers everything and test 3. There are Quizlets that are WORD FOR WORD the tests. She has pop quizzes, but as long as you do the homework and show up they are super easy, and she drops 3 of them! She's very interesting, and I think its a beneficial and easy class.
Dr. Godwin is nice, but if you have a different opinion than hers she will not treat you the same as the other students. In order to get a good grade, just say what she wants you to say.
Ms. Godwin is so sweet, but she isn't my favorite professor. She is very particular about a lot of things. There were only four grades and each was graded very harshly. Make sure you attend offices hours and get her opinion before you turn your work in. She is also loves participation!
She is very particular about the 5 assignments that you turn in. If you do not do well on one assignment than it really affects your grade, but class itself is discussion boards on tuesdays and small groups on thursdays. It is hard to get an A in the class, but if you meet with her during office hours it could possibly help.
Professor Godwin is genuinely rude. You can not take a sick or mental health day, if you run into a true emergency, she requires proof and will not allow any make up work. She preaches her own opinions and if you disagree with her, even respectfully, she will shut you down, it is the truth. She is not a good teacher or person.
Professor Godwin is a very nice person and decent teacher. She is very specific with her grading and nitpicks. Your grade is basically composed of three big assignments, which isn't the best. You have to read and participate in order to do well in her class. I took her online so it wasn't the bad but I could see her being more difficult in person.
Dr. Godwin is just the sweetest woman! She is very reasonable with her grading system. It is generally a chill and laid-back class; however, it can get a little stale sometimes. Attendance is technically required, but if you are sick, her class is accessible through zoom. If you want an easy A and are interested in Sociology, I recommend her class!
Sandra Godwin is a horrible professor, honestly. She told our class at the beginning of the year that attendance was NOT mandatory and then switched up and failed students because of it. TON of unnecessary work in and outside of the classroom such as writings due every week. Nothing I learned was important in her class. TOTALLY unnecessary.
Professor Godwin is such a hard grader and solely bases how she grades on her opinions. I couldn't tell you one thing I learned in her class, we had three total assignments, yet they were very hard because of how she grades. She randomly started making attendance mandatory half way through the semester. I do not recommend.
I have never wanted to bang my head into a wall more. This year she has decided to do "ungrading", where instead of grading us on papers and stuff, at the end of the year she gives us a grade on participation, but gives no feedback so you dont know how you are doing. The final project was confusing and without clear instructions and her word is law
I took sociological perspectives and I promise you will learn nothing from this class. It is all about inequality and very controversial topics that she only allows certain opinions for. She preaches her ideology to you and nothing else. Lots of in class discussions (be careful what you say). Ungrading policy that is so frustrating.
I wouldn't take any of her classes if you have responsibilities outside of school. People with kids or jobs, do not take her. You can and will fail because of attendance. If your opinion doesn't line up with hers, just keep it to yourself. She is nice, but can be passive. Though I did well in this class, it was way more stressful than necessary.
You can find prezis or quizlets for every chapter of the book and as long as you elaborate and not write a simple answer for assignments, you'll get a good grade. She wants you to care so if you don't then leave cause she can tell who makes an effort. She is very respectful and cares about her students, but her grading system is aggravating
She is a good person and cares about the issues she brings up but she was not a great professor for me. We would go on for weeks about one thing and then at the last second she changed her mind and changed the idea we had been working on for WEEKS. You never know your grade until the end, I got a B when others failed who I think did better than me.
She was nice but her class was confusing. You do not know your grade until the very end. you "grade yourself" but she picks the grade she thinks you deserve. DO NOT FORGET THE DISCUSSION POSTS. you have to talk during discussions.
She was awful I won't lie. She does a lot of group discussion, but takes up time talking during it so you don't always get to participate due to her taking up discussion time. A lot of assignments are confusing, and she doesn't do actual grades. She makes you grade yourself at the end of the year on a rubric, but can change it if she wants to.
This class takes so much time and is truly a waste of it. Will mark an assignment down for not using "gender inclusive language" Will mark when you go to the bathroom and too many can get get you marked Most of her directions are not that clear. If you miss 2 classes you cannot get an A. AVOID AT ALL COST, AVOID MY MISTAKE
The way her class is set up is awful. She doesn't have a grading system, and doesn't give good feedback either. We have one book we read, and discussion post and class discussions about it. If you slightly misinterpret the "main point" in her eyes, she will fail you. Also, more than 2 absences could take your final grade down a whole letter grade.
This class was AWFUL. Group discussions almost every class, it's like she's always expecting a very specific thing but won't tell you what it is. You have to go to class, there's no real tests, you're just graded on participation in class and homework. You HAVE to get the book, the whole class is made around it. No technology, not even computers.
This teacher and class was awful. She wants everything just so, but won't tell you how she wants it. More than 2 absences docks your grade down a letter. Going to the bathroom is taken into account. My performance was A level, but she gave me a B because I didn't do one assignment to an "A" level. One assignment shouldn't determine that.
although I think the class is important because it discusses current events and issues the way it's gone about is really unprofessional. We read one book that is taken as fact. she pushes her own personal beliefs and narratives into discussions. It is a discussion based class, but in reality, she doesn't want to hear contradicting opinions.
She doesn't teach. She expects you to teach yourself AND the rest of the class. The class is very discussion based and a lot of the questions she asks/grades you on have opinion based answers. Best of luck if you don't agree with her too.
Sandra is a nice lady and someone I'd have a conversation with outside of class. Despite this, she says our course is set up for "discussion," but it's mostly just her interrupting you and steering the conversation. While I agree with the book's takes on sociology, she treats it like fact. I wouldn't take this if you don't like talking.
Dr. Godwin is a very nice lady, but I feel like I haven't learned anything from her as a professor. The entire semester has been class-led discussions where we essentially teach ourselves while she keeps track of who talks. No phone policy and hates when someone has to use the bathroom, she takes note and you could be penalized.
This course, Gender, Race, and Class in the Media, was co-taught by another professor. Honestly, I didn't enjoy Dr. Godwin's teaching style. While she was nice and cared about her students, the quizzes were extremely difficult, and she was strict about attendance. Her expectations for assignments were often unclear too.
While she is a nice lady, her expectations are out of this world. We led discussions over this book, Rigging the Game, she kept track of who talked and if your opinion didn't agree with the author of the book she didn't like it. You get penalized for leaving the class to use the bathroom, no phones, and is unclear about assignments.
If you don't read the book, you will not do well in this course. You MUST participate in discussions and show up for class. Dr. Godwin makes her expectations VERY clear and is a wonderful person to be around. Not many points are available throughout the semester (75 pts) which makes getting an A difficult. Also, you also can use the bathroom lol
This is my 2nd time taking Godwin and I regret it. She is a very difficult grader, I participated in class every single day, I did all my assignments on time and read the material, I had a very good performance that deserved an A. Do not take her if you don't have to. There is so much busy work that is harshly graded.
Had her for intro to soc and she was chill and nice to work with for the most part, but when she lectured it got so boring. you get assigned in groups and have to "lead discussion" and give a presentation on your assigned chapter. it wasn't too hard but I learned nothing about sociology. just tell her what SHE wants to hear and you'll be fine.
Do not recommend at all. She is kinda rude and has no compassion. You have to raise your hand to go the bathroom and she'll count off participation if you do go. Also don't even think at looking at your phone or anything else than what she is talking about or else she will give you a zero for participation. Also she takes forever to explain thing.
Professor Godwin's class can be tricky, but using tools like unstuck AI alongside the textbook can really help. Attendance is a must, and she's particular about grading, so office hours are key. Overall, an interesting course if you're willing to put in the work.
If you don't tell her exactly what she wants to hear you will not pass the class. she is extremely liberal and so it the book we read and if you don't read the book you will not pass the class. this class is horrible she barley knows what's going on and she doesn't know how to communicate with her students. Save yourself and don't take the class.
One of the worst professors I have experienced. She did not know how to teach whatsoever. Very rude and judgy to students and not reasonable with anything. Work in the class was useless and repetitive.
If im being so for real in my heart of hearts i dont like her just cus she's annoying
Professor Godwin is an odd woman. Her class is pretty chill, she gives a book to read, but you kinda don't have to read it. You don't get any assignments, but you have about 4 quizzes, and they aren't bad. Her class is just super boring.
I agree with the last rate of her being odd. She doesn't ever seem like she knows what she's saying or what's going on. She changes her mind mid talking and is basically all over the place. Couple simple quizzes that you'll do good if you read the book. The book is so repetitive and the guy just yaps, I didn't read it. She's honestly just annoying.
The only thing we did in that entire class was read the book she assigns at the beginning of the semester. While she is nice and there isn't too much work in the class, she gives super unclear answers on everything you ask her. I cannot express enough that the book she gives us revolves around the entire class, which is extremely annoying.
