****in ****
Hated the class, seemed like she talked down to the class
Hard, read the book and know the problems. At least she's hot.
Psycho demon on speed!

Barely passed 140. 273 is easy if you do the work.

her and her sweatpants make you cringe every damn morning...learn to teach...
Gorka Sucks!!!!

DO NOT TAKE
Knows her stuff or she wouldn't be a doctor, but can't deliver material
Yikes, for a Dr. she could dress better.
Terrible. Terrible teacher. Terrible clothes. Terrible doctor. How is she one&
I won't schedule any STAFF class due to the possibility that she will teach it
Goes to show ya, they will give anyone a job with a cereal box DR. degree!!
gorka, not to porkher
Swaet pants is right....what Dr. wears sweat pants?
Worst teacher I've had (college/H.S). Grade errors, and almost impossible tests.
If you don't want to be doing graduate level programming then do not take her.
She was kicked out of the math dept. Does that tell you anything?
Don't do it...You better pray to an awesome god if your looking for a good grade
She wasn't as bad as I'd heard-helpful. Show up for class, I got an A.
What a waste of money. Can't teach, can't dress. Poor excuse for a doctor. Nothing like having a math major teach computer science. She sucks.

Yes, she does wear sweatpants, but who cares? Gorka explains things very well and works at a very nice pace. CSC140 is a hard class for many students, but this isn't her fault. I've noticed that most who dislike her are the slacker types. I got an

She really helped my get through the class. I had very little math background and she really explained it in a way that I could unserstand
Worst teacher i have ever had.
She is the worst teacher. She wears sweat pants and no make up to class. You are expected to only spend your free time doing programming. I think her and her and Mr. Miller get it on in the office. NEVER TAKE HER. You will have to drop the class.
trailor trash, needs to get professional and get rid of the sweat pants in class.
If you're taking CSC161 TAKE SOMEONE ELSE. Try and get Al Henry. Gorka is more demanding than Adolf Hitler. She will explain nothing, expect everything, and you WILL get a ZERO.
Power Point Presentations and tons of homework(individual and group)
My not dress great but will teach you. If you are looking to learn something and are not affraid of putting up some effort in the class take her. She's nice if you are nice to her.

Igor needs to go back to Frankenstein and stop bothering us kids.
she might not dress the best but I think she is one of the better teachers at this school. Expects a lot from students but is ready and willing to help and re-explain things. If your willing to work, shes willing to teach. If not, her class will be hard.
She is a ****ing ****! The absolute teacher in the world.
Avoid Gorka like the plague.
She is the worst teacher ever. Unprofessional, and unwilling to help. A total b-i-z-o-c-h. Avoid her at all costs!!!!!!!!!
I think she is alright if you like to do your fare share of homework and extra things for someone that dresses like she goes through the Salvation Army's garbage can for new trendy sweats!
Hey, People. You just remember one Fu***** thing right now. "The best minds wear sweatpants!" I can't believe jake is hittin that nappiness!
She is def. interesting. Weird jokes. Takes her cat's pills for her colds. A lil off the deep end if you ask me, but she's still a cool teacher. She will help if you take the time to stop and ask her during office hours, even if you email her the problem.
WOW. Gorka gives here fare share of homework. Tests are easy though.
Steep learning curve if you have little/no expierence in programming. Although class was difficult, and work plentiful, I feel i pulled a lot from it.

Extremely unhelpful. Emailed her several times, none of her responses were helpful. Not even sure she read any of the emails. Doesnt help you with the assignments she gives. Doesnt even understand the assignments herself. Your better off reading the book than ever going to her class. Never heard anything good about her. DO NOT take her.
terrible instructor, do not recommend
If Satan himself gave birth to a daughter and sent that she-devil to the real world then that thing would have to be Sandra Gorka. This terrible creature is the reason why so many college students drink themselves sick every night. Take take whatever action to avoid this threat because this devil is almost as bad as the plague.

Either Gorka has changed drastically since most of the reviews listed here were posted, or there are a lot of Linux haters here. The class is all about commands, and that's exactly what she taught. Whenever I had a question, she answered it. The weekly quizzes were not too difficult, and made me know my material. She is not the Devil.
She's evil. Avoid
This course was a rediculous waste of tuition. She deserves merit for using no textbook, but there was far too much content derived from websites that require accounts (SPAM) and articles that were off-target. Bottom line: NOT QUALIFIED TO TEACH CIT320. A help-desk MANAGER would be the correct person. Exposure to help desk mgmt was very inadaquate
Good luck trying to find a Help Desk Manager to teach this class. All of those positions as well as the subordinate positions require that you live on the sub-continent of India. I had Dr. Gorka for this class and while the class was not 'Weaver-esque', it was pretty simple. If you hate Dr. Gorka, then chances are that you dislike doing work
The class was great if you want to learn about commands in Unix/Linux. I learned a lot and cannot complain. Final was a little much but other than that it was an easy a for me.
I took this class because Lisa Bock was scheduled to teach it. How I was wrong! Oh the Horror! Gorka comes to class late and then yells at us for not being on time. Tests include information, not surprisingly, that we have never been taught. Sometimes I think the only reason I come to class is because of those voluptuous glass cutters?
Rude, doesn't teach, late for class. Doesn't ans emails in order to make an appt with her so you can obtain help. She doesn't hand back papers to see what you are doing wrong. Grading very unfair!!!
Nightmare!Couldn't teach if she tried. If she can make it, anyone can make it in life.
She cannot teach at all. Pulls powerpoints from the book, reads them without expanding upon them at all, cancels class sometimes (does not teach that chapter) and the material is still on the test. If she's going to make us learn from the book, why are we paying her? If at all possible, do not take her, she is an idiot with a degree in mathematics.
as most people have said...can't teach. shes rude when u ask her for help and doesn't explain stuff. if she is wrong and you are right...she's still right...barely answers emails...and another thing: she accused me of "posting to a forum" as she called it and gave me a 0 on my last assignments. she had no proof and i did my work honestly
PAY ATTENTION in class. Yes there is a computer with internet access in front of you and no she doesn't say anything if you surf- you'll just fail. Everything she teaches is easy and she doesn't touch the book. She did accuse me of cheating which really irritated me though.
Does not teach. Tells the class to read the book. Deliberately withholds information in class to see if students are reading. If I wanted to teach myself, I would not be paying her. Almost accused the entire class of cheating. NEVER dresses appropriately. Avoid if at all possible.
Voice that could shatter glass, very annoying, she is an ok teacher
Well I came into this class thinking it would be awesome to finally learn linux...that was until I met Gorka. She does not dress appropriately nor does she have a schedule, she makes it up as she goes. If you want to pass read the book. Also on her scripting assignments if it is not done to her liking she will fail you. (I did pass).
A lot of people complain about her class. She may have some hard scripting assignments, but if you pay attention, read the book, and show her that you care about the class, you will pass with flying colors. Deal with it. Not every professor is perfect. Just understand how they teach. She expects her students to learn on their own here and there
Nice teacher shes knows her stuff very well although sometimes is not the best at teaching it. I felt like we followed a command list rather then learnt how they work. Nice and smart lady although needs some help acually teaching how linux works
Difficult material to learn. Her exams are Extremely hard if you have not done every single swItch on a utility. Presents the material in a fashion in which requires a very strong background in programming. Not entry level class material.
Didn't grade anything until finals.
She is a good person outside of class but not very good at teaching the material. She did not grade anything till the end of the semester so you didn't know where you stood in the class. She also kinda makes fun of you if you don't know something cause she expects you to teach yourself. I passed CIT240 with a B but CIT241 will be hard to make it by
all other classes she is great except for grading. This class had issues. First be preparef to sign away your copyright to you final paper to her. Also she spent an entire class one day just talking about an article 1 person mentioned. No one else had any interest so she basically spent the whole class talking about an article with 1 or 2 students.
She was the most inconsistent professor i have ever had.
In my CSC class she took the time to explain everything and how to use myitlab...which is the worse thing ever, but she always allowed students to follow their own path if they knew what they were doing.
Senior project, very clear cut class. Do the work early, attend all meetings, use resources and ask for help if you need it. I completed this course, with all else but the final presentation in six weeks. I repeat, do the work, show up and you will be fine.
Shes unconsistent, doesn't grade till the end, expects you to self-teach rather than doing her job well enough, most of the people in my clas dropped or failed. She crams everything she doesn't get to it the last TWO weeks. We bascially had to learn a great deal of PS scripting in 1 week when she dropped like 9 scripts on us, like what the F*.
Dr. Gorka is a good teacher, but you can't expect to pass if you don't show up for class or don't do all of your work. I'm 3/4 of the way through her CIT240 class and have at least an A overall with minimal effort. Just do your work and you'll pass.
Doesn't use Plato for ANYTHING. If you want your grade, plan a trip to her office, and even then she probably won't have half of it up to date. Otherwise an average class, not too difficult if you do the work and understand basic computer functions.. Also didn't grade more then 2 or 3 scripts at the very end of the semester.
Dr. Gorka is good professor and is always happy to answer any questions you may have during class. Most of her courses are easy, especially CIT240 (Intro to Unix and Linux). If you take the time to really read the material and ask questions in class, you'll get an easy A. I enjoyed taking her CIT240 class so much I decided to take CIT241 for fun.
Tests are way to difficult, its a 200 level class taught like a 400. Shes reasonable to deal with, but a super hard grader. Did I mention the tests are hard? They are quite miserable. Put it this way, we had a full class of 26, its now a week before finals and there are 17 left. Say enough?
As a native Linux user, this class was enjoyable. What was not enjoyable was every single week having a quiz and/or an online quiz i.e. 12 quizzes. Also 2 tests in the class of which start easy but, gets EXCEPTIONALLY difficult. The egoism is strong with this one, being humble would go a long way. Hard to imagine non-native users passing.
During your class period, Dr. Gorka is a great teacher. She does a wonderful job at explaining concepts and using illustrations to do so. However... outside of class she is hardly available, even during office hours. She even misses a lot of emails as well. Good teacher in the classroom, but if you get stuck, you are screwed until next class.
Dr. Gorka goes into great depth about the course work. But she is clearly a hard grader and does not like to give As what so ever. Expect to work out of class to understand the material. The class was fun to learn, and she has good feedback when you ask questions. The test are somewhat difficult.
Don't expect feedback. you will get what ever grade she decides to give you. not negotiable. Expect lots of disorganization. On the plus side, it clearly isn't that hard to get a Doctorates so there is some inspiration for ya.
Shes very disorganized and follows the book in a very strange way. Be ready to read alot of the book, as you will be quized randomly on the terms and concepts within the chapter or next chapter each week. IF you can get someone else to teach this course, please do. Also, I echo alot of the other negative reviews here as they exist for that reason.
Please if you have her for CIT243, just read the book and do the online work. Follow that. You will understand the concepts much better. Dont rely on her lectures. They are long winded, dry, and by the end of it you will be more tired than when you walked in. Have a notebook or bring a laptop to class, something to pass the time
Awful professor, awful person. I hate to say it but she is useless. I literally learned by reading the book. Whenever I'd ask a question she couldn't directly answer it. I could have done more on my part to repeatedly ask but I kinda just gave up. Dramatic person.
Worst professor ever, made me want to switch majors. She has a math Phd and little IT experience. Awful grader, doesn't follow her own criteria, and she waited until we couldn't drop the class to give us 90% of the coursework. "19 pages is an acceptable amount of work" for 6 assignments that were due in two weeks. Procrastinates grading too much
Never follows her own rubric. Rubric is wrong in terms of how long your presentation needs to be and doesn't fix it, instead saying once or twice it needs to be longer. Assignments are vague and confusing, instructions are just wrong half the time. Takes weeks to give feedback on anything. The worst teacher I have ever had.
had to buy $80 subscription to not get dropped, never used &didnt mention it once all semester. 90% not graded till last 2 weeks. docked points for correct answers if r explanations required her to think too hard.brags ab being Dr.of math in demeaning way. voiced strong political opinions. canceled 2nd exam she said did not want to grade another
The professor's grading and instructions can be inconsistent, but engaging with the class discussions and using study aids like Unstuck study can help navigate the course. Overall an average experience.
