She provides tutoring and slide review in preparing students for tests. A term paper is required to pass in order to pass the class. Tests are both multiple choice and slide description.
she talks way too fast, a total **** when it comes to her attitude, doesn't help you with anything, requires you to do all kinds of work that has nothing to do with the class ... over all not a very nice person
Good luck! Very challenging
not a good teacher, talk way too damn fast to write everything down, test is multiply choice but confusing, very very confusing, tricky questions determined to make you fail the test. Never take again in my lifetime or next lifetime!!!
she is not a easy teacher....~~~ but if you want....TRY her class & get a A+
just """"no good""""
If I was tested on her family, I would have gotten an A.
you can get an A if you plan to be a dedicated student..there are many study sessions and workshops available for her class-they're definitely worth going to. expect massive amounts of in class notes. she's nice
Not warm & fuzzy, but knows her stuff. Remember it's more *history* than *art.* Tough class, tough lectures, tough tests. OTOH lots of slide reviews, paper seminars and tutoring available. If you're up to the challenge, you can get an A.
Fell asleep most of the time but she is a really good teacher, funny sometiemes too but u have to really study hard. Her tests are multiple choice & little essays. Do well on the museum paper...counts for alot.
on sabbatical? you sit in a dark auditorium, very cozy, get to sit back, watch slides, listen to lecture, take notes. she did not talk about her family. she's professional & doesn't tolerate jackoffs, but she's not cold. no big essays in 4D.
Her paper was graded harshly. Her tests are ok, but the course is not as difficult as people say it is.
hard but good
the best
Mrs. Haynes conducts her class with professionality and does her best to teach everyone the material. It's not an easy class though, and you might find yourself dozing off sometimes unless you're really interested in Art History. Good teacher though.
Course is easy as long as you do the reading and go tot he tutoring :) Shes really fun.
Professor Haynes goes to great lengths to give lectures that are clear and concise. She is professional yet approachable. Class involves lots of notes, and make sure to do your reading before class. Term paper workshops, slide reviews, and tutoring is available outside of class, and is helpful!
All right
I thought she was pretty hard and the test were no joke. If your just trying to get an A for your GPA DONT NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
She has long lectures.Be prepared to take a lot of notes. You might fall asleep.I did.Tests are hard and long.Made me go to a museum to see a work of art and write a essay.
great teacher
very interesting class but challenging
You can't be lazy in her class and you gotta read the materials. She seemed like she was really interested in what she was teaching, even though I didn't think so, but I do admire her attitude.
She is extremely well organized professor and knowledgeable on her subject. She goes the extra mile to supply tutoring and term paper workshops. If you really want to learn: this class will challenge you. Not for the lazy! Otherwise go take some other dope, which has never even seen what’s on the slides in person. Haynes is the definition of an ed
This prof. is definitely not the one you want to take!I don't mean to be mean, however, her attitudes is BAD!she is well organized,it's true but she gives out too much info, and expected too much from us,and this is only a 3 units class. She sometimes disrespect student as well by looking at you in front of the whole class like you are in high school.
This class was pretty challenging, lots of images/facts to learn. It's not impossible to get a good grade but you must study her lecture and read the book.

She is very hard, you have to take lots of note and study from the book as well. The test are very hard which she make you describe thing. I believe you can find a better easier teacher than her. You even have to write a stupid term paper in a art class, what the hell.
I really enjoy this class, It reminds me of a private tour of a muesem. Im surprized that some people find this a difficult class. Just stop talking and take notes and maybe you'll do good. Shes very organzied and provides workshops and tutoring. Over all this is a wonderful class.
She teaches well and gets her point across. The only problem is she doesn't really remember you by name (one of those teachers who just know you by number) You have to talk to her after class and make yourself love the subject. Then you'll actually enjoy the class. Its pretty easy, you just have to stay awake and apply yourself.
She is hard, goes on and on, some things arent important for us to know cuz its not on test. Test #2 you have to go out find a greek lookin building and write an essay about it. Research paper is demanding. Class gets harder and harder, she herself even said she is one of the hardest art history teachers there is.
the people who gave her a bad score bust be slackers. this is college and it is amazing how many people out there can't handle it. this is art history- it is demanding. get over it. if you read the material, you will get an A. grow up people.
I loved the way she gave her lectures. They sounded very professional, and this was reinforced even more when I noticed how the subs gave the lectures. I liked the way she dressed, very presentable. The only thing is that she is kind of strict in grading when it comes to the assignment where you have to visit a museum. I learned a TON in here.
She is very knowledgeable and funny. She has seen a lot of the art and makes it very real to learn about.
she is a very knoweldgable teacher, youll learn a lot from her, the only thing is she doesnt like it when you ask her questions ( yea i dont get it either *shrugs*)
she knows exactly what she is talking about.ALL of her class time is lecture and lecture and more lecture. you better take good notes and write good essays( she is english major). I did very well with all tests but bombed my final to recieve a final B in her class. Her essays are harsh.
Watch out for her tests! Write down everything she says, and double check your essays before turning them in bc she's harsh. One good thing, if u're unhappy with the paper's score, she'll read it again to make sure she gave you a fair grade. She gave me 11 extra points the 2nd time aroun1d! If you show you care, she'll do the same.
she is very informative and excited about her subject, do the extra credit and pay attention you will be fine!
her tests are very easy compared to Prof.Futhner. they are mostly multiple chioce with some essay but short essays. i missed one test and got a b on another and still managed to get an A. shes verry knowlegable and realy ets into the subject
Lots of material covered during lectures. Multiple choice exams with essay questions.
Excellent speaker, professional in appearance and presentation. She will give you exactly the grade you deserve, just pay attention, study hard and prepare for the tests (which are typically easier than most art history classes) Not recommended for lazy students.

Very clear and precise information. she talks fast so it can be diffifult to take notes but I found that I did better on test than I expected to. she is passionate about what she does and I learned a great deal.

Beware of this teacher and her crazy grading. If you can pay attention to verbal lectures and take really really good notes, you'll be good. Otherwise, prepare to study your butt off and get your papers and tests shoved back at you with her dispassionate, high-and-mighty, "I know better than you" smirk.
great teacher very active , though long lectures most are fairly interesting and not to har grader take good notes and listen and class should be a walk in the park....
WARNING: HARD GRADER! I would study like crazy for exams using her lecture notes, online notes, and the textbook which only helped a little. She refuses to curve grades and on your term paper she will crticize you on the littlest things. I suggest taking another teacher if you are interested in this subject.
She is sooo good! Great teacher, she knows her stuff. Her explanations are just wonderful and very clear. If you want to get good grades, sit in the front row. Just be consistent and study smart! I got an A in her class! She's so dedicated and she doesn't intimidate students! If you just attend class every meeting, you're good.
I went into this class dreading it. But to my suprise I fell in love with art history from day 1. Prof Haynes is very knowledgeable in what she teaches and is very enthusiastic when lecturing. There are 3 tests (lowest one gets dropped) a term paper and a final. TIP: do not fall asleep in class because every class is important!
She made me love art history!!! She is very well spoken and enthusiastic. Do not show up to class late. This is a very scholarly class, you will learn a lot but you have to apply yourself. Read the text and follow along in the class and you'll do good!
I really enjoyed being in her class. She knows what she's actually talking about. Due to her, I have decided to change my major to Art History. If you attend classes everyday it might be a hard class to get an A on. Most of the tests are based on her lectures. She has a great quality of online resources. Her museum assignment was pretty fun.
I loved this class. Class is based on lectures, but she make it interesting. If you take good notes and study then tests aren't too difficult. She is a great teacher!
HARD CLASS! if you take it just because the GE requirement, i highly recommend take someone else.
HARD CLASS! if you take it just because the GE requirement, I highly recommend to take someone else. for the test, the multiple choice part is easy, but the description part is really hard. i don't think anybody can get 100 point on her test.
VERY HARD class. i think the test can not have someone get an A. If you want get an F you come to her class
Extremely Horrible Professor!!
OMG.TERRIBLE CLASS! how could this mean creature be a Professor =.=''...lecture out of test topic, so picky MULTIPLE STYLE of test, essay, slid id, matching, picture recognizing...countless AND give WRONG grading...imagine that u r the one did all she ask n GOT C. while the student did not even meet requirement pages n wrong format, got A, HOW FAIR!
MEAN n PICKY, F if chose her class, A if chose a STAFF class...u understand. weird attitude, bad behavior, EXTREMELY mean, answer student question depend on MOOD n M-day. never try to get student really understanding or not, BUT just give TEST as much as she wants as her hobbie doing. no help, never in-office, rarely answer mail,PCC Craziest Class!
pleas no take she, she is a bad teacher, i m get lose in class but she giv no help, im scared of she. scary teacher!
By far the worst teacher imaginable. Careless, puts no effort into anything, the whole class is solely based on tests that are based on a usual 3 week's span of daily terms (ranging from 30-50 terms a day.) I can't stress the fact that this class is a true waste of time. DON'T EVEN TAKE THE CLASS IF YOU WANT A HIGH GPA!
Im going crazy with the class....the class almost ends but it turns into a Baptistery where she Broadcasts her own religion and let us listen to GOSPEL songs rather than teach ART!!!ARGGG----___---'''
HORRIBLE CLASS! HOPELESS, HELPLESS,USELESS, MOODILESS,FAIRLESS,...ETC PROFESSOR. it only do good in HELPING YOU HATE ART!
i am suffering with the class, please save me, or pcc SHOULD CANCEL this class, so HORRIBILLY CRAZY,make student scared ART. always said give stuffs to study and have choice to choose...IN FACT, THERE IS NO CHOICE, SHE ALREADY PICK FOR YOU. and FORCE you to follow her FLAG.
she CHANGED her ways of teaching, nolonger so eager on teaching but foolishly go over terms n throw out bunches of weird and confusing lecture. NOT RECOMMEND HER! HARD CLASS!
she is the most ridiculous professor I ever met. you need to write 3 page essay for the Greek architecture with no lecturing from her. also you need to visit a museum and write 2 pages paper to her. if you only write 1 3/4, almost 10 points off. don't take this class, unless you're prepare to fail it.
nice person, though as a professor she is boring, unclear, confusing, and makes art history uninteresting to learn. might as well read from the book rather then listen to her.
Relies heavily on note taking. You just have to show up for class, take notes and remember them for the tests Simple as that!!! very much like professros in UCs. So if you plan to transfer, this is the class for you. Trust me, it is NOT hard
Class is pretty hard if your lazy (I was). Tests and quizzes are can be hard if your a bad notetaker/book reader. Projects are dumb, but easy point. Doesn't curve ANYTHING so don't get excited. Does let you drop a lowest test grade prior to finals. Lectures can be boring, if your a good independent person then you won't even need to go to class.
i dont know what these people thinking, this CLASS EXTREMELY HARD! GET HER, KILL GPA, F for sure, TESTS WITH ESSAY, SLID ID, UNKNOWN, MATCHING, MULTIPLE CHOICE,FILL IN THE BLANK, SHORT ANSWERS, AND CORRECT ERROR OR ART WORK, for all TESTS!
I was excited to go into this class, but unfortunately it ended up being one of my least favorite. Professor Haynes gives long, boring, lectures and often lets class out a little late. She is very passionate about the subject, but her class is UNNECESSARILY DIFFICULT. The tests are VERY detailed and VERY hard. I don't recommend her class AT ALL.
Boring class! definitely kill your GPA!! she REFUSE to curve anything! final is hard, for the true/false part, the statement she gave out is tricky. and 2 pages inclass essay! HARD CLASS.
i took the test today, the crazy final, with essay, slid id(5 second each), matching, MC, tricky essay question choices, so hard, hard HARD, HARD, how could there be a creature that said is not hard...that is totally a BIG LIE! in fact, i think everybody failing the final that worth 2 GRADES, how crazy unfair grading system!
i apologized to what i comment here, but im sorry again, I AM TELLING THE TRUTH, to save all of the on coming student. THIS PROFESSOR WILL MAKE YOU AS A PROFESSOR OF ART HISTORY, require EVERYTHING FROM YOU, FORCED YOU TO BE A PROFESSOR SOMEDAY. it is ridiculous that she TEACH 1, TEST YOU 100!, DIFFICULT FOR SURE, FINAL IS CUMULATIVE!
H A R D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! D I F F I C U L T!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is all i help you guys, dont tell me y not warning you F will on your record!
HArd like hell, if you wanna lower ur gpa then take her. talk so much in class with no pt. if you like the F then i recommend u take her
i recommend a BLIND to teach u even better than this strange and not good attitude teacher. she will give u C, even u read books and notes. so thas y take other class where other professor can give u EVEN GRADING.
it is HARD, not because of everyone is being LAZY, it is because she teaches out like spreading and whoever get it(superman?), pass, not get it, fail. In fact, she should ask herself how she teaches that make the whole class being so mad at her after the final!
Do u WANT to have F on your record? if u want, just come to this class. despite of how hard you working on, this professor will make your life harder. this is the class for hurt your GPA and destroy your hope to transfer.
bad and moody professor, not intend to teach but just teach as her working habit, come class, speak and go home. HARD and SO HARD, and SUPER HARD. RECOMEND HER FOR F!
This class is "NOT-SMART". make u do all the work that as if u r taking only 1 class for each sem. it is impossible to get A even doing all the works. Take her class to drop and get W OR F
From the day i came to PCC till now, i think i will never find a Comparative-impossibility of gaining A but Strongly and definitely-possibility of get F! make u change ur major and hate ART....cuz u will soon see F appear on ur record if u take her!
HARDEST CLASS, EXTREME HARD TEST AND QUIZ~ F GIVER, IF U LIKE THE LETTER F IN UR TRANSCRIPT, SHE IS THE ONE FOR U
she will make a big mark in your record, "F"! she doesnt teach well, bad attitude to student, being so mean that answer with ridiculous words, make you feel shame in the class and you get nothing from the lecture, and then you get F in test , F !
if ur major in art, i highly recommend u to take someone else class. this is the class to make you write 2 notebook of note and finally get a F. not because people are lazy. she is purposely to fail her student with strict essay grading and ridiculous final. also she refuse to curve, even a lot of student just get 40 or 50 on the test
I 1000% agree with it. SHE MAKE YOU FEEL DISAPPOINTED FOR ALL THE EFFORTS YOU MADE, cuz till the end, YOU GET F. She wont tell you why u getting such grade and wont give a minute to help out for answering question. She teach Religion rather then art. She make you drop class easy then you think u can keep. She give u a F, is the final SURE.
i took her class in last fall, she is definitely HARD professor. she was purposely fail everybody in the class by giving hardest test and poor grading system, DON'T EVER TAKE HER CLASS UNLESS U R SUPERMAN!
Ms. Haynes is awesome! I took her Art5 online class and yeah it was a lot of work, but it wasn't brain surgery. You're in college; you're going to be expected to do work! I think she's a great teacher. :o) Her class really wasn't that hard.
It is not about doing work, it is about work that will be done with great quality of effectiveness of understanding and comprehensiveness. NOT JUST GIVE WORKS ON GREAT QUANTITY and think she done with her teaching, if like that, WHY WE GOING TO SCHOOL TO SUFFER this non-sense education. RECOMMEND HER FOR GIANT-FAILING-GRADE!
i can't believe people are complaining.. We r in college! what do u expect! She emphasized that the prereq for her classes are English 1A because there are a lot of readings. People r just unbelievable
what do us expect? TEACH...why they earn their proficiency and watever degree that they studied for but then JUZ MAKING MONEY into her pocket BY GIVING BUNCH OF WEIRD THINGS THAT MAKES NO SENSE IN ART. Also, we r NOT TAKING ONLY 1 CLASS OF HER!!!! jus LOOK AND COMPARE the ppl COMPLAIN more then support the way she teaches. just BAD, too bad to say.
I took 1A. Taking 1B this semester. Never even bought the book. I just showed up to lectures and took good notes and still got an A. Tests are ALWAYS ONLY on lectures, so very easy to study. There are only two papers due the whole semester! 2 pages long too! That is not even college level difficulty.
Horrible teacher.. i mean i studied 8+ hours for each of her test(honestly) and i still got a C and she was the only teacher that had problems with my essay. Overall she has good organized power points, but she has a attitude problem, she would easily be irritated in class if a student asked a question SHE feels isnt worthy. Grading is inconsistent
The grade she gave out really does not even worth a bit of wat we spend to study. For good example, i read every chapter every day after lecture, did every assignment with great quality, WHILE the guy nex to me with no book and assignment only did to HALF of the required leve, STILL GOT A, while i did everything, i GOT C. so...THINK ABOUT IT.
scary professor, never been terrified in class like this before, she killed ur brain-openness soon with all the rudeness and bad attitude toward students. she will provide u to adopt more PHOBIAs. also, she announce that there will be ONLY 2 A to the class , so take ur challege. CRAZY
Ms. Haynes herself is kinda sweet... sometimes.... Her tests were really hard though. If you wanna pass, be sure you remember everything, i mean EVERYTHING, on her notes. I studied for the first test and i got B+ . I didnt study(at all) for the second one and i failed... so obviously, its up to YOU not HER whether you will get a good grade or not
here is some truth: most people will got C or lower on the 1st and 3rd test and despite of how terrible grade people got on the test, she will NOT curve. the term paper is not that long, but she is reaaly picky on grammer, don't expect an A or a B on it. the final is tricky, she was purposely fail everyone. I totally disagree with all good comment
I don't know what's wrong with you guys? Well, anyway, At least i think Ms. Haynes is pretty clear about what she expects from her students right at the beginning of the class...( thus she is extremely clear and thorough about her materials... compared to some other teachers... very organized)
Prof. Haynes is very clear in what she expects of her students and not unreasonably so. She is always very helpful and shares a great deal of information with her classes.
She's actually one of the easier art history professors because she doesn't have a Ph.D on the subject. And yes, she's picky about grammar and spelling because she has a degree in English, and Art1A and 1B are in fact COLLEGE courses. But she's a wonderful professor, easy to contact, and has great study tools on her class website.
All of the positive comments seriously make me doubt whether these are actual students or the professor herself! And if they are students, wow. a$$ kissers
people keep complaining about her being so stubborn to curve! the reason why she does not curve is because some people do very well in her class! if you put ur time and effort to this class then it's impossible to get lower than a B. If you do get lower than a B i suggest you go see her.
here are some truth: her class was based on powerpoint. her tests are hard and tricky. the online information was useless for the test. Overall, you'll get a passing grade if you work hard. it is impossible to get an A in her class. don't take her for your GE class. she isn't the one who try to help the students
She is outright stubborn. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and was about to say she is a good professor, but her assignments and expectations are so ridiculous, it makes this class the most pointless class to take if you dont have an absolute passion for the history of western art. Dont take this class if you are looking for an easy A
She grades fairly :) The information during lectures is a bit much to soak in if you haven't read the chapter beforehand. Do your best to stay awake and you should be fine. She reviews what she wants for the tests very well. It's not really mandatory to be there everyday, but I suggest you do because the tests are based on lectures, not readings.
wow she grades very hard(picky)tests are random, u dont kno exactly wat to study for. 1st test is multichose& unknown. then a paper& then report paper. her class is hard, the book helps in no way its all from her lect. but she is all over the place & very hard to understand her teaching way. dont take the class if you get pissed at stupid greaters
Pure lecture class. 3 test (one a take home test) and a 2pg essay & final. Easy. She even throws out one test. Skim the book and take lots of notes, you'll be fine. She cracks me up but I dont think she's trying to be funny.

You'll take lots of notes in this class, so you'll have to pay really good attention. The tests seemed easy if you study well and know your stuff. The take home test was easy. Impossible to get an A...it's not an easy class.
don't ever try to challenge urself people. it is impossible to get an A from her class unless she likes u. don't take her class for ur GE requirement.
Her class is all lecture and power point, she's a good professor who is very passionate about art. Easy workload.
I'd rather saw my head off before taking another class with this sorry excuse for a professor. Anyone that has anything decent to say about this person is clearly delusional and/or has personal issues. I ended up with a B in this class after going to the Dean and I have a 3.9 GPA (also a Dean's Honor Student)..............
...............She down graded my essays for no apparent reason. Her excuse was that I "couldn't write a proper paper" yet I am an English major transferring to Berkeley and have received two scholarships from the English Divisions at PCC. Clearly, if she doesn't like you and you don't make an attempt to kiss her sorry a$$ then you are screwed.
I loved this teacher! She really knows her stuff and she provides you with all the information you need to succeed in the class. If you don't plan on going to half the classes then don't take the class. She's a great lecturer and her knowledge makes the subject very interesting
I love her! She's so crazy and passionate. Her lectures are so engrossing and wonderful~! She offers a lot of extra credit. I recommend taking her especially if you love art history!
The people complaining were either slackers or stupid. You won't get an easy A in her class, you have to actually WORK for your grade *gasp*. She even says it on the first day of class, be prepared to work or drop the class! Took her and got an A w/o kissing a$$. She is a very clear & thorough teacher. I would def. take a class with her again.
unclear and way too much work for an art class. professor think this class is more important the nuclear physics.i did drop the class the reason is too complicated, i did take many online classes before but this one is different.did i say too much work.
Anyone that thinks this class is too difficult is a fool. Im getting a b in the class, and what I do is I come to class, I sit in the front and I listen. I rarely take notes, and I fall asleep from time to time. If you want to pass the class, all you have to do is listen to the lecture and do the tests and museum project. Simple class.
Tests on every chapter. Mostly multiple choice and some short answers. Two essays, two page for each. She grades very strict on essay writings, but tests are fairly easy as long as you attend the class and take good notes. You can see that she's really into some subject and very enthusiastic about the topic. GO TO HER OFFER HOUR! You'll get a lot!
Honestly, this class is very informative and interesting if you give it a chance. Prof H. is passionate about her classes, so she wants to challenge and prepare you for university work, not an easy A. Out of all the Art/H profs I've had she's been the most fun n articulate about the subject. READ, Study, Take good notes. 2exams,1takehome, 1 final
Yes, you really do have to work to get an A in any of Sandra's classes - you cannot afford to slack off. Only take this class if you have a genuine interest in art history. Sandra is very passionate about the subject, which made the class very enjoyable for others who shared the same passion.
Don't ever think to take her class. As other student mentioned, she thinks her class is extremely important. Although she is passionate but never think of getting A in her class.
Her class is really interesting, but make sure that you don't miss any of her classes, because she talks really fast, and you get tons of info in just one class. For tests you have to memorize a bunch of different art works, so make sure you actually STUDY!! Her class is big, so sit in the front, it's SO MUCH easier to pay attention!!
Her class was imformative, but you must pay really close attention to it. She goes by very fast, and 90% of the things she said in class will be on the test! I regret taking her class as a GE class. It would be nice to take it if it's your major. And I think she is a bit not fair towards the grading system for every class that she teaches.Good Luck
She is not a fan of 'unplanned' student interaction. If a student asks for clarification (or sometimes even just raises their hand), she gets snippy & cuts them off with "If you just let me talk, I'll get to it!" The few times she does try to interact, class is afraid to respond, as they're unsure whether it's now OK to speak w/out being chastised.
Don't take this class if you aren't willing to work for your grade. You need to listen to her lectures to pass, the things on the tests are unpredictable, you have to study! She talks a lot and goes very fast, if your bad at english, then don't take her class. Notice how all the super negative comments about her have horrible grammar
She is a nice woman but seriously don't take this class, so much work for a 3 unit class and I never know what to expect on the tests, she explains what will be on the tests but her explanatiins aren't typically accurate to the actual material she puts on the test.
Literally everything on the tests are covered in her lectures so don't buy the textbook. It is supplementary at best. DON'T BELIEVE HER LIES. Not an easy class, but she's a fair grader. She's a stickler for grammar however, and, I think, for penmanship as well. That said, the subject is interesting as are her anecdotes of the places she's visited.
Her lectures can be a little bit dull sometimes. She reads from the text so you can basically just study from the book or listen to her lectures online. Her Museum Report assignment really helps your grade so make sure to do a good job on it. I believe there were 3 tests and a final, and the final exam composed of old questions from previous tests.
The reviews are so not true. She isn't a bad teacher at all. She makes her students ear their grade and that's how it should be. She is quick to respond to emails and is very considerate!! Not my favorite subject, but not my worse! I will recommend her, for people who aren't lazy and are willing to actually study!
Professor Haynes is such a sweetheart! She can be tough at times, but you really have to work for your grade. If it isn't with your major and is just for a general ed, I suggest taking an easier class. The topic is interesting, but you seriously have to take notes and study for the tests in order to get at least a 90! Final is comprehensive.
Too much for a 3 units! I felt it like an Upper division class. She is not bad as a person, but Lectures get boring at times. Tests are semi difficult, and strong writing skills is must. I DONT recommend it as GE or NoN-Arts majors! Pretty Challenging course. Needs good test taking and memorizing skills. Cuz its a lonly walk class.
Professor Haynes leads a interesting and knowledge-filled course. The lectures can get a bit boring, but if you're into history they're fun. You MUST either pay great attention during lectures or read the book(my preference) to pass test. EXTREMELY random questions. Paper is easy and enjoyable. Meet her for help. She's nice and gives good advice.
This is a hard class, but you will learn a lot. The text book will make studying easier. Lectures are fast and furious! Not boring. Questions are tricky. Fair grader and willing to help if you ask and show interest. If you have little interest in this subject better take a different class. Notice the poor reviews come from those with low interest.
Boring and Rude. Pretty much describes class and professor.
Ugh. This class will be a drag if you're not into Art History. She's REALLY passionate about art. There's SO much material you have to memorize and she expects you to be able to identify artistspaintings you didn't even learn about for tests and write IN IMMENSE detail about stylistic approachmeaning of works of art. DONT TAKE IF ITS NOT UR MAJOR
Took her for Art 1B and I really enjoyed it. I took this class as a General Ed so I am no expert but I did really well. First week of class she put us into groups and that is the group you will have for the whole semester. Quizzes everyday on lecture videos you watch on canvas. 1 take home essay, a museum report and a group final. Enjoyed the class
This was an interesting class. Your not gonna be producing any art. Its more of the history and the way things are done. She does the lecture and then give you your weekly project due the night before the next class. You really have to follow the directions she gives for each assignment and read the outlines carefully before doing it.
"Flipped classroom" style, assigned reading along with Canvas pre-recorded lectures followed up with quizzed every meeting on the material. Strict but fair, clear with her expectations, she can be sassy. If you take this for GE, you will work your butt off but learn a lot. I'm taking her again for 1A.
Difficult tests- be prepared to match 25 paintings to their artists, date, style, etc. from memory. You're given everything you need in the study guides, but it is essential that you STUDY. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities, pay attention in class, and you'll have fun. Interesting and concise lectures from a good professor.
Course is pretty difficult. memorize tons of information along with their images. Tests are moderately difficult. Essays not bad. Must write in college level English. I honestly think the course should be worth 4 to 5 units rather than just 3. She is a sweet heart, and crystal clear. Read the text, memorize images, and study hard then you'l be fine
DEFINITELY NOT AN EASY A! Very poor communication in this online class, she never responded to the emails I sent her. Pretty hard online class, she makes you WORK for your grade, and was very strict with her grading. I would not recommend this class at all, most students got D's and C's, and this class ruined my GPA. Very time consuming, stressful!
There is an online quiz 20-30 questions everyweek along with a paper. There are no actual art assignments. She gives you a week to go to a museum. Considering most ppl are taking other classes, its difficult. Do not take.
Not an easy class, you will have to work for your grade! But if you read the assigned textbook chapters and study for exams, you should be fine! Written assignments are easy, just reference the textbook and do not overthink them. Also, lectures are easy to follow and are very interesting.
Great instructor. Working in a flipped classroom environment. Very enthusiastic.
This class was a lecture class, so there wasn't much interaction with the professor, but she is very knowledgable about art. It's helpful all her lectures are available online incase you miss a class or need to go over a lecture again. There's a lot to remember, so reviewing on your own is crucial. Oh, and she is not a fan of students leaving early
I should have dropped the first week, this professor lectures were so hard, we just looked at pictures on screen and she just spoke about them, then you had to review online with videos, and when you took the test, most of the questions were difficult and not taught by the professor. #thebookwasneverneeded
Took her during summer. DOES NOT TEACH. Watch her lectures at home, quiz every class meet. Very unclear. Does not tell you exactly what she wants in the essay but just a rubric. Doesn't teach you how to write an essay for an art class. Wasted my entire summer for this class for not learning anything.
I would not reccomend this class to anyone, this professor is rude to her students on top of dry lectures and excessive bragging about her personal wealth and life. if you want to learn about art, or if you just want to pass the class, I suggest fnding another professor.
Sandra Haynes is definitely underrated here. She's very knowledgeable and serious about her field of expertise. She doesn't put up with slackers so keep up and READ. She appreciates participation so speak up. STUDY HARD! Some of my classmates said they weren't art majors and wanted an easy way through history THIS IS NOT AN EASY WAY OUT!
1A class was fairly interesting. I LOVE her lecture because she makes art history really fun! This class requires heavy notetaking, so put your effort on taking notes from her lecture (it would be really helpful). Textbook is not needed, but attend every class, pay full attention to her lecture, and study before exams then you will enjoy this class
If you are not into history major, avoid this class. She is good (because been doing it for years), sometimes rude and cynical. Extra credit assignments mean nothing. Did couple of extra credit assignment to help the grade, drove hundreds of mile, both directions, wrote reports and essays. Ended up with C.
Extra credit means NOTHING! I did all extra credit assignments, drove hundreds of miles for that, submitted the reports, didn't help the grade. Ended up with C. Unless this is your major better not taking this class. I could have GPA 3.7 before this class. Bad decision I regret.
Sandra Haynes knows what she is teaching. Her lectures are fine. It is not an easy class. Her tests are easy if you know the material but the final was 50 questions and out 200 points so if you get one question wrong, you lose 4 points. There is no extra credit but she drops the lowest test grade. You have to write an essay but it is not bad.
Basically a religion class, she praises the European culture exponentially. Very condescending towards the students. However her class is very simple and easy, so basically getting a low difficulty course ran by a narrow vision specimen.
Very influential, helped me pass the class with the final!
The start can be intimidating, the key parts are watch the lectures, quizes, be prepared for surprise no-prep group presentations (hence always watch the lecture videos before class) and the research paper is a heavy weight on the overall grade! Not too big on the group aspect of the class, as group members can be hit or miss. Textbook never used.
avoidher online class at ALLcost if your looking to just slide by. Ive taken many online classes before and did well, but this was the only onlineclass where I had to drop becuz her assignments took up alot of time, it should have been a 4 unit class, however I had to drop because i have other more important class to focus. STEER CLEAR
I loved this class. Assignments were due weekly, but they were straight forward and easy to do. If you couldn't submit the assignment, just contact her and she will re-open it if your reasoning seems legit. No midterm or final, but there were weekly OPEN book quizzes. Hard to not get an A.
I believe you should take her class if you truly would like to learn the material and this course is very interesting because you get to watch videos and look at different artworks that are very eye-catching. Ofc this class isn't an easy A but it's a class in which it shows the amount of work you do. There is extra credit but not that much.
I had the flipped classroom where we study with our assigned group mates and once in awhile she'd lecture for ab 10 minutes at the beginning of class. I was taking 3 other classes at the time, but I liked her class. You should be fine as long as you watch the videos, take notes, and read (not too many pgs usually).
Do not take this class! It will exhaust you and you won't have anytime to focus on your other classes that are so much more important.
You have to be motivated and to be prepared to discuss your ideas with other classmates. Beware that you must show up to class or else you will get a warning, then you will get dropped with no exception. Other than that, she really wants you to participate and to pass.
You definitely have to put in the work by watching the eLearning videos and textbook reading, along with doing the discussions and projects. As long as you start the work early in the week, this class is easy and manageable. You cannot be lazy though, if you are, you will not pass.
The class was easy, I would show up each day and watch her video lectures in class. The reason I gave her a low rating is I do not think she contributes anything to learning. I could have taken the class online and gotten the same interaction with her. She forces students to work together despite people refusing to keep discussion going.
Honestly didn't need to be so anal about some things. This is 3 credits of art history 1A, not advanced aerospace engineering. Class was quite easy. Majority of your grade is based on multiple choice quizzes that are open book, which is super straightforward. Not a hard grader by any means, but would it kill her to be a little more linient?
Shes alright but I PRAY to never ever have her again.
I've taken her class twice, first was 1b and second class was 1a. Attend her class, try not to miss a day. She drops 3 quiz grades which is great. Quiz (10 q) is everyday so attendance is def mandatory but they are easy if you have watched her lectures. Theres 1 essay, 1 final "unkown", a few "unkowns", and short quizzes;seems a lot but not really
This instructor made a poor impression on me. She does not have Biblical facts correct and is not humble to admit she is wrong. Focuses too much on social media posts and her over controlling manner did not set well with me.
You will find it difficult to find the way out of her maze of instructions, which can be easy if she's specific in what she really wants in few sentences. There are assignments about sexualily that uncomfortable to discuss or people don't care about.
You have to watch a lot of video lectures she sets up , as well you have to take multiple quizzes. As well weekly discussions that are worth heavy points. If you missed an assignment or if you didn't do well on an assignment it does drop your grade percentage quite a bit. It's a lot of work for me I think it was not worth it but depends on you.
Literally so much assignments are needed to be completed in such little time, I took her summer session, definitely heavy quizzes , homework, and lectures. You need to be on top of your assignments if not then your grade will drop dramatically. Overall for me was not worth it but was the only teacher available.
She was so sweet, understanding, and the most organized and ready online class I've taken. I was in her arthist1a class, now I'm taking her 1b class this semester. It is an adequate amount of work, but each week is no surprise on what you'll be doing. Her quizzes are open-notes and open-book, which honestly helps remember the material.
Professor Haynes is great! I took her online course. The quizzes are open book which in all honesty her quizzes are based off her lectures. If you watch her lectures you'll do fine on the quizzes. Her assignments are not hard at all. However you do have to put in the work for her discussion posts. She gives extra credit opportunities as well.
Haynes class is very easy 2-4 quizzes a week (open book) which seems like a lot but they are extremely easy, you just need to download the lecture transcript and you can find the answers, the textbook is free to download. She is caring if you reach out to her she will help. Recommend taking for need an easy A. Her lectures are 10-30 minutes long.
Extremely slow to respond to emails for an online class, difficult to contact in general. Discussions are worth a lot of points and the grading sucks, 6-8 sentences on details of art pieces you already have little info on and it has to be objective or she will take points. Points taken if discussion replies are in the same day or close to deadline
Pro. Haynes's online course is fun and interesting. She uploads lecture videos that range from 30-50 minutes long, some modules have multiple. Take notes on the videos and you won't need the textbook for the weekly quizzes. Very few assignments. There are 2 essays, both pretty simple. Extra credit is available. The discussion posts can be tedious.
Canvas course is very well organized, and the workload is very manageable. I don't really like the discussion assignments but it's hard to complain with an A. Professor certainly is passionate about the subject and that's pretty cool.
Tons of work, and she does not check her emails!
Very demanding for an online course as a freshman but wonderful course to truly explore several concepts of art in activities that are engaging. No actual art was made, just studying the meaning of it by analyzing modules & adding personal touches which made all the writing easy. Take if ur genuinely interested in learning ab art, not a GPA boost.
Definitely an easy class if you keep up with the course work and the readings. Lectures are easy to follow. Quizzes are based on the textbook and/or whatever is in the module. Written assignments are straightforward, so if you stick to the rubric, you should be fine.
Easiest class ever, just do your work and keep up with lecture videos (not even hard). Did not even buy textbook, weekly 1-3 quizzes on lecture, and a discussion post. Open note quizzes, so use ur resources. Tons of extra credit, ended with a 105% only doing 2/4 easy extra credit opportunities. Responded to email about group partner not doing work.
This class is not for anyone who just wants credits, it is an online class however she makes assignments where you have to take video or photo of art around your community and going to a metro station.. Not very fun or interesting just pretty boring test are easy though.
tests/quizzes are fairly easy since it's open textbook. I would say that discussion boards, projects, and papers we had to do in class were fine. They're just tedious but you can definitely do good on those assignments. I got A's on all of my quizzes and assignments so I'm not complaining too much + there's no final. Overall, solid professor.
