Very friendly and funny
Dropped my paper two letter grades for an incorrect citation.
She's a bitter, mean-spirited person.

Sandra Hoyt is a bit quirky (telling stories about her cats many times a week) but is a good professor. I went to class 4 out of 5 times a week and did well. Her test style is a little weird, but you'll get used to it. Tip: READ THE BOOK!
She was very easy and tests were straight from lecture. If you hate math and stats, take this with her.
She's really funny and nice. Her lectures are easy to understand and well-organized. She always gives examples to back things up that she says.
You will learn many interesting, fascinating things. None of them will be on the tests. Good luck with those.
Dr. Hoyt rocks. Her teaching style is halarious she tells great stories and her tests are easy and straight forward if you read the book and attend lecture. My favorite psych prof so far! TAKE HER!!!!
I hate her....her tests wern't bad.... but god i dreaded going to that class not to mention she hated the class. OH well i made through it.
I absolutely love Sandra Hoyt and think her class is great. I don't mind going to class. Her tests aren't hard either.
She kicks ass. Not to hard, just study a little. She's definately worth taking.
She seemed to be a very biter woman. Her lectures were straightfoward but her tests were confusing. She'd make two choices sound exactly the same and it was hard to determine which one was correct.
LOVED her. Tests are a little hard. Class was for the most part entertaining. You'll learn a lot from her. And yes, READ THE BOOK!
She's so funny, but not because of her jokes, because of her facial expressions. She's clearn and interesting. If you read and go to class, you'll do fine.
Sure she hates going to class much as you do but her tests are so fair and i got an A and everyone should.
This is an easy class if you go on a regular basis. She makes a lot of bad jokes but is really nice and makes the material easy to understand.
She's the best! So Funny! If you take Psy 101, take it with her for sure!
I thought that she was great! I actually liked going to her class. Her tests were easy as long as you went to class and took good notes. I never even cracked open the book though, and still got an A.
She's very organized and kind of funny. She keeps the class interesting. Her tests are easy too.
I loved the way she taught, and I learned a lot. I think everyone should take her for 101!
Hoyt has a great, fun personality, is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the class, and if you come often and take notes you're guaranteed to get an A (I got 100% twice, even on the final).
I had a bad experience with Dr. Hoyt unlike most people. I'm about ready to write off classes where professors think a fair evaluation of students should be based solely on tests. A lot of people recommended her; I don't.
I like the class, but I hated the teacher. She seems nice... but she really is a very mean woman inside who hates everyone. I did not like her test questions either... very confusing, and it seemed they came out of no where.
She's nice on the outside, but on the inside she's appalingly mean-spirited and is one of those teaches who doesn't care if you pass her class. I liked Psychology before her class, now I hate it.
She is a great professor. She has the perfect combination of lecture, discussion, and videos about the class topics. Although she is nice and an excellent professor, she is very no-nonsense and does not tolerate talking or other distractions in her class. Overall, I highly recommend her!
Great Prof! Attending class is important and you have to study! The exams can be tricky but not too bad overall. She keeps class interesting! I would encourage you to take her for PSY 101~
Dr. Hoyt is a great prof. I really enjoyed her classes. To understand her humor you must be able to understand sarcasm. She is very helpful and intelligent and her classes will teach you a lot.
not an easy class. lots of material, lots of notes. she has an air of self importance about her that i don't find particularly appealing.
She was extremely hard. I studies all the time for this class, and went to class everyday. I even got a tutor and received a D+. I think she is the worst psych professor. She is very unhelpful and her tests are hard.
Do your work and study lecture notes and you'll be fine. Prof is crazy- For example, she will go on and on about how distracting it is when someone leaves class, and then procede to distract the class herself by calling people out for leaving. Also, dont forget your ID on test days or she will flip out on you and make sure she has you on camera.
This class isn't that hard...All you have to do is go to class once in awhile and get someone's notes to read.. The book is worthless for this class, just know the notes and remember some details and you'll get an A
Her tests cover more stuff in the book than from what she teaches in clas and lectures. Her humor is rather dull and it seems to fail a lot and thus I got the impression she wants to kill herself. But overall it was bearable.

I took her class over the summer, and it was a great class. It was more of a discussion group than a lecture. She shows a lot of videos, and not very many notes. Most of what you need for exams are in the book. Definetly reccomend the class with her, fairly easy with xtra credit opportunitys.
She attempts to keep the class interesting, but fails most of the time. Her sense of humor seems fine at first, but eventually you dont find her amusing anymore and she becomes somewhat annoying. Her tests are relatively impossible to get an A on, but getting a B in the class is simple. Attendance isnt required by her or to get a good grade.
She is a good teacher. She attempts to make jokes that may seem funny and some are but a majority of them are not too relative and can be quite annoying at points. But she makes the class bearable with her energy. Should be passable.
Her exams are tricky. Some stuff tested arent from the lectures nor textbook. She isn't a very bright teacher. I don't think she likes teaching at all.
EXCELLENT Professor. take her. VERY GOOD! Gives lots of examples and is easier to understand.
I barely missed class and took tons of notes and still struggled on the exams. The class is very interesting, though, and the book "Witness for the Defense" was really good.
She is a little goofy but a very good professor. Make sure you have good class notes and read.
I hated this class but not because of her. Actually, she is a pretty decent professor who gives a lot of examples and is willing to help her students. The exams are not too bad, but there are 5 of them. You really don't have to focus on this class much; just study for exams, and you will be fine.
Was really a cool teacher
Very interesting class. She's a funny lady. You have to read the book with painstaking detail. watch out for her tests, she likes to test you on seemingly meaningless percentages and facts. You MUST read the book or you will fail unless you already know this stuff. Just make sure you read EVERYTHING in the assigned readings and you'll survive
Interesting Topics. I have found looking up the vocab words at the end of the chapter helps alot on the test.
Interesting class - I enjoyed reading "Witness for the Defense" and watching the videos. Exams were hard. 1 & 4 revolved around notes, which was manageable, but the other two were tricky. You had to know every single fact in the thick, small-print book because she pulled random, trivial points for them. You can pull off a good grade (A-; doutfully an A) with a lot of studying and the meager amount of extra credit she offers. Good class - I'd take it over again.
I hope you're not too attached to your GPA, because she's not. She's a great teacher who is clear and knows what she's talking about, but her tests are killer. Grades are only based on tests and you can get up to 6 extra credit points which can only raise your grade about 2%. She's tough, but you learn interesting things.
I loved Dr. Hoyt! She was an awesome teacher who made class interesting. I went to class every day, took notes, and studied the day/night before the exam and got an A. I never even bought the book. Tests are challenging but do-able. Take her for Psych101!!
I LOVE SANDRA HOYT!! She is hilarious if you actually listen to the little jokes she makes under her breath. She's crazy, but hilarious. Read the book, study your notes and this class is more than doable. TAKE PSYC WITH SANDRA!
only opened my book once during the entire course. she doesnt post her powerpoints anywhere so you kinda have to go to class but theyre really easy to understand. no projects or papers just have to participate in psych experiments. do the extra credit ones. theyre not hard and they help you out. i got B's on all of my exams.
She was somewhat intresting, kind of wierd. I had a hard time studying for her class cause we had 4 sources of info we had to study. She would also go on random rants in the middle of class. This made it hard to tell what was going to be on the test and what was just a random rant.
Dr. Hoyt made class really interesting. She's really funny and quirky. She liked to make weird jokes, but it definitely made class more enjoyable. Class was not mandatory, but it definitely helped to get a better grade in the class. Tests weren't extremely difficult, but studying was definitely necessary. If taking PSYCH 101 take from Dr. Hoyt!
I really enjoyed going to her class. Reading the book is a must, because a lot of the test material comes off of it, not just the powerpoints alone. She is very good about meeting with you to talk about your grade and tests. Class was always interesting and if you follow along and read you will be fine :) If you're taking psy 101, take dr.hoyt!
We were tested on material from the book, and she rarely covered any different material in class. So, there was no point in going to class if I had to read the book anyways. Halfway through the quarter I rarely went. Kinda good. :)
This class was interesting! And Dr. Hoyt is a really sweet lady. The class is mostly powerpoint focused so it's easy to take notes. We had 4 tests (the final was not comprehensive) MUST READ THE BOOK! You need to read as well as study the notes to get an A on her tests. If you put forth effort, you'll get a good grade. Not extremely difficult!!
I loved her class. Shes quite quirky and makes lots of funny little jokes. She makes class really interesting and like i said her joke are very tastefully done she over was my favorite professor !
What a hilarious/ awkward woman. She will make you smile all through class with her little comments. She is my far the easiest for psy 101. not a whole lot of material to cover and almost none it from the book so don't bother buying it!
Dr. Hoyt was great! She's very nice and funny. I enjoyed being in class because the material is so interesting and what makes it even better is how well she knows the material. Class was everyday, but I didn't mind be cause it was actually enjoyable. You watch sweet videos and the tests aren't bad at all. I'd recommend her for sure!
I loved Dr. Hoyt! She is extremely nice and a very good professor. Her tests were not too bad either.
Dr Hoyt is Awesome. She is very helpful to anyone who is willing to help themselves. I myself struggled at the beginning of the term, and she generously held study sessions with me at no cost. Some people may have to take it twice but it is a great class.
I found her bubbliness a bit annoying, sometime she strays just to make jokes. But overall she's pretty painless, unless you have to miss a test, and her tests are ridiculously easy. If you read the chapters, the information comes straight from them.
I love Dr. Hoyt. She is extremely clear with her notes and is willing to help you out if you need it. She is very easy to work with, and if you read the book you will be fine. In response to the rater below, maybe if you would have read the book you would have done better, it's not that hard to comprehend the book. The book is an easy read.
Having Dr. Hoyt for summer session was an absolute joy. She is really down to earth, helpful and straightforward. If you study, you should have no problem getting a good grade. It was a pleasure learning from her. I would most definitely recommend taking one of her classes. One of the best classes I've ever had.
I wouldn't take her again. The material isn't hard but her tests are unfair. The questions are way too specific. Exams: multiple choice but they are hard b/c the options are like (c) All of the above are correct (d) A and B are correct (e) None of the Above are correct. I never missed class and read the book, did extra credit...and I'll get a B
Dr. Hoyt has been one of my favorite teachers at OU. She really knows her stuff. Class is everyday, but I really enjoyed going because she was always interesting. One of my favorite classes for sure!! I'd take Hoyt if you get the chance!
The material is very clear but her exams are way too specific so its difficult to receive an A on them.
I have had Dr. Hoyt twice now, she's very nice and she makes class interesting. I am normally an A student but her tests are so specific and difficult i could only get B's on them. she also makes you responsible for everything in the textbook which makes the tests impossible.
she is just fantastic I love her! she is probably one of my favorite professors ever! She is extremely funny and this course is sooooo interesting! She cracks jokes all of the time and makes her students want to come to class YOU MUST READ THE BOOK but actually the book isn't that bad I thought that it was really interesting! TAKE THIS CLASS W/ HER
She's soooo nice! She has really strange tests, though. Her lectures help, but she leaves stuff out that is in the book on purpose. You HAVE to read the book to get an A. This course is big on studying too, tests have a lot of specifics.
Hoyt is extremely intelligent and knows her stuff! You should really attend every class, there are videos once in a while that show up as easy points on exams. If you study your notes you'll get a B or C, if you suck it up and diligently read the text (which isn't horrible it's actually quite a good textbook) for every exam you'll get an A.
she is really nice! easy to get high score
Awesome teacher! She does a great job teaching and explaining everything. Her lectures are very interesting! Go to class and make sure you read the chapters. Definitely recommend Hoyt I really enjoyed her class!
Love, love, love Hoyt!! The BEST psychology professor. If you ever have an opportunity to take her classes, DO IT! Her tests are fair, you should definitely go to class and listen, which shouldn't be a problem because she is really entertaining. Nicest lady, great educator, fun. I highly recommend her :)
Hoyt is an amazing professor. I loved her general psych class and I want to take any class possible with her from now on. Exams aren't too hard, just read the material and do practice quizzes. Not memorization it is mostly application.
ok professor. Not too hard, but boring.
Ok professor. Not hard if you try. Easy a- at least. Get the book if u want the full A, plus you have connect homework. 3 tests an a final. No extra credit.
She's a great professor. Her sense of humor albeit quirky is to me personally, hilarious. She provides great examples and she's a social psychologist and relates much of her lessons to that.
Very sweet and cares about her students. She comes off a little quirky, but she does an excellent job explaining some difficult concepts. Definitely take her if you can, but be sure to attend class regularly.
Dr. Hoyt is a really good professor. She's very organized and she makes class fun by adding in little jokes. Very quirky. Cares about her students and LOVES her job. I have talked to others that have taken other psy 1010 classes and they don' t learn at all. MUST READ THE BOOK.
She is such a sweet lady but I would never take one of her classes again. Her exams are hard and confusing. She does not teach everything in the lecture so you have to read the book, each chapter is a good 70 pages.
strange professor but interesting class. rarely need to show up as long as you go through power points on your own. tests are not hard as long as you actually read the book.
She's aiight
She isn't boring and pretty funny in a corky way. Definitely recommend. She enjoys when students make comments and you can tell she genuinely likes teaching and likes her students.
I was super into the class at first, but her teaching style just did not work for me. She drones on pretty often and has an 'interesting' sense of humor. I just didn't like it. I stopped going to class altogether, and all I did was read the texts before each exam (which is essential!) She's a hit or miss professor, take at your own risk!
Professor Hoyt is a very corky instructor but for me this helps to remember the material. If you need to make connections to help remember the material she's the professor to take. Reading the textbook & doing online tutorials & quizzes the textbook provides will help you prepare for her tests. The videos that are shown in class will be on tests.
She makes it so interesting and uses great videos to aid lectures
Very, very interesting class. She did a great job engaging our class in discussions and provided good power points and lectures. One of the best classes I've taken thus far at OU. She also picked an excellent book to aid in lecture. Nothing was bland or boring. A very nice lady and great professor! Highly recommend
Excellent professor! Attending class is extremely important as is READING YOUR BOOK! If you don't keep up with the reading, you will most likely not pass. I skimmed chapters and ended up with a C+ in the class whereas my roommate read all chapters and received an A. She's helpful and hilarious with a unique sense of humor. Loved her class!
Professor Hoyt is my favorite professor at OU. She is so clear with what she expects from students, and makes lectures really interesting and relevant to her exams. She's also the funniest professor at OU, and soooo nice.
Dr. Hoyt has a really interesting Psy 1010 class and is pretty funny and quirky. She only gives 4 tests though. They're multiple choice, but you really need to know your stuff!
Dr. Hoyt is a really great professor. Her lectures are interesting, she gives good examples, and is really funny. She posts her powerpoints on blackboard and attendance isn't mandatory. She gives extra credit as well. She has four multiple choice exams though and they're pretty difficult.
The tests are tough if you don't read the book. If you DO, you should be fine. Professor Hoyt is always available to help with study techniques and go over previous tests during her office hours. She is a really great woman and I am glad I took her class.
Dr. Hoyt makes lectures very clear, easy class. She's an easy professor just make sure to keep up on the reading in the book and you'll be fine for the exam. Offers 6 points of extra credit and she's pleasant in class
This is my second class with Dr. Hoyt, I had her for Intro to Psych, also. She is a funny lecturer who reminds you of a grandma who is trying to relate to a younger generation, but in a good way. You don't need to read the book if you just go to class but it will help for a couple of questions on each exam. There are 4 exams and no other grades
I absolutely love Dr. Hoyt, she's more than willing to help if you ask and it doesn't have to be about her class, even though I don't take classes with her anymore I still meet with her to talk about my other classes
I love Dr. Hoyt!! Her lectures were so interesting and her tests were challenging, but fair. Book was essential because she takes questions from it that she didn't cover in lecture. Do all of the assignments because there aren't many points. She also strictly follows her syllabus so there are no surprises.
I just had Dr. Hoyt for psych 1010 and she was amazing! I loved her sense of humor she incorporated with her lectures. For anyone taking her class, or thinking of taking it, USE QUIZ-LET, do the extra credit experiments, and reading the book is a must!
Professor Hoyt is probably my favorite professor I've had so far. She makes the information interesting and she's got a great sense of humor. Don't miss too many classes because exams have examples from things she only talks about in class.
READ the book. If you do that you will pass easily. I went to class but it is surely not necessary. Offers 10 extra credit points out for like a 200 point class. Her feministic views can be a tad biased but nothing too bad. Take this class with her if you want an easy A.
Dr. Hoyt is one of the nicest professors you'll have. Take her if you can. Lectures were enjoyable and she's funny which makes the time go by quickly. Exams are easy if you study the material (she gives you useful practice quizzes for each chapter). Final isn't cumulative and there is a test after every 3 chapters. Super manageable.
She's such a cute old lady. She cracks jokes and has a great attitude. Her lectures are off of a Powerpoint, but she sometimes puts questions on the exams about something we did in class. The textbook is not required but I totally suggest getting it and reading it--there is material on the exam not covered in class.
Did not enjoy her class. I thought her lectures were very hard to sit through and uninteresting.
I really enjoyed Dr. Hoyt's psych class. She makes the lectures interesting and as enjoyable as possible. She is such a sweet lady and is always cracking jokes in class. No homework and exams are not bad at all. Would definitely take any class of hers again!
Really sweet woman, gives great examples so you really remember the concepts. She cracks really awful jokes and no one ever laughs but she thinks they are funny. Her tests aren't crazy hard but they're about 60 multiple choice questions over 3 chapters. It's hard to remember so much information but this class is pretty easy so definitely take it.
This professor must think her class is the only one you're taking. She gives a quiz weekly, sometimes two. She is very sarcastic with her answers to your discussion board Q & A. Her questions on the quizzes are hard, and the midterm and final are proctored. The whole point of an online class is to not go to the class.
Uses powerpoints but you will need to add your own notes. tests are really difficult, mostly based on theories. She does a good job of holding your attention during lectures.
Super sweet lady. Understands her class isn't your only one. Browse through her powerpoints and read the corresponding chapters before tests and you'll be fine.
I'm a nursing major getting a psych minor and this class is starting to be one of my hardest classes! You have to read the book to pass. The exams are hard and confusing. Lecture is beyond boring and nothing that we really talk about is on the exam. powerpoints are like 2 sentences. You pretty much have to teach yourself. Don't take!!!!!!
Exams can destroy your grade, maybe 25% of whats covered in class is on the exam, the rest is from the book.
This class is hard. The lectures are informative but no very useful for the exams. She requires you to read the chapters but they're like 40+ pages each and that's all the exam is over. She doesn't go over the readings in class so it's basically you preparing yourself for the exam. Extra credit saved me.
Awesome class!!! Take this class with Hoyt, she makes it easy and compelling.
Love her. Easy class, interesting material. She's fun and funny and conveys information in a way that it really sticks in your brain. Plus, attendance isn't taken and she posts her slides online, so it's easy to catch up on anything you miss.
Loved this professor! She made the class interesting and funny and I rarely got bored during her lectures. Every three chapters you have 3 online quizzes to do from the textbook material (which you can find on quizlet) and she posts her lectures online so you can catch up easily if you missed a class.
DONT TAKE PSYCH JUSTICEw/Her Nothing you learn in class in even on the exam. It is all in the book which is not fun. If you try to ask for any help to improve your grade just slightly she just gets mad. sorry I care about my grade and am willing to go above and beyond to get a good grade. Thats better than not caring at all I think. WORST TEACHER
The exams are 100% from the textbook, which is not discussed in class. I feel that I would've gotten the same grade had I never attended a single lecture, because I ended up just reading the textbook to study - lecture notes were not helpful at all. Lots of discussion and lots of extra credit, but nothing else about this class was special.
F-T RN Enrolled last day to register/drop (Fri) Had to contact her for blackboard access, received (Sat). Two assignments (80+ pgs of reading) due Sunday 11.59 Told by her "NO late assignments , Hope you can get them done". Would NOT recommend her for anyone who works full time or has other classes. She made 1st online exp .... HORRIBLE!!!
Tough grader, rude in e-mail responses. Wouldn't budge on some confusing grades despite being challenged. Took her for Stats. Wouldn't suggest taking her for this course. Proctored exams as well.
Hoyt was very fun to listen to in lectures. The tests aren't too bad but you really need to read the book because most of her notes aren't on the test. Overall would take again.
Sandra Hoyt is one of the sweetest women I have ever met. The class can be a bit dry but she really tries to make it interesting with stories and jokes. The class itself can be easy but you do need to read outside of class to do well.
Dr. Hoyt is a great professor and always incorporates jokes into her lectures. Definitely would recommend getting her as your professor if you can. Her tests aren't hard if you read over your notes and the powerpoints to study. The textbook has some extra information in it that may be on the exams, but not completely necessary.
Lectures are super fun to listen to: Dr. Hoyt is an adorable lady! She's really passionate about psych. Lectures often don't fully reflect exams, so be sure to read the textbook. Would definitely recommend as a professor, everyone deserves to have her!
Work load is standard: weekly quizzes & weekly reaction papers or discussion boards. Make sure you take your time with these assignments because your grade is essentially half these & half 2 exams & the exams are tricky. I think someone said , these can wreck your grade. Tests are based completely off reading the text so you must READ.
She is a gem.
My favorite professor at OU. I wish she would teach more psychology classes. Everything is so easy to understand & the work/quizzes are all online. The lectures are enjoyable & shes overall a fun & caring professor. The exams are exactly whats in the book (just read & youll pass). She makes psychology fun! Totally recommend taking this class.
My fav psych professor so far. Very straight forward class. I actually enjoyed the assignments they weren't tedious and overwhelming like other classes I've previously taken. The test were pretty tough, you have to read the chapter if you want an A.
This class was an absolutely no. I hated every minute of it. I changed my major from psychology just because this class sucked. She always talked to fast and she barely help. She never explained anything just threw test at us.
Dr. Hoyt was an exceptional professor with interesting lectures! She always made class worth going to. I recommend getting the textbook, that will help with the quizzes. She also provides A LOT of extra credit so no need to worry about a bad grade! The class is very simple and straightforward, I will be taking more with her as a professor.
Prof. Hoyt is amazing. Her class was not very difficult and all exams were taken online. Attendance is not mandatory but it does count as extra credit. She is funny, kind and knows what she is talking about. Would definitely take the class again
She was a very nice professor and cares a lot about her students. Her class was easy because it was online. I feel I only got an A due to the circumstances of covid and everything being open note test. Either way I feel like the exams would of been harder but definitely doable. I love listening to her speak. She is a very smart lady and kind.
Dr. Hoyt gives amazingly entertaining and understandable lectures! Her classes were the highlight of my week and never failed to capture my attention. Shes a very sweet professor who genuinely loves what she does, and you can tell. Homework was never too difficult or heavy, exams were not timed and were always open book. Id recommend to anyone!
Dr. Sandra Hoyt is an excellent Psychology professor at Ohio University. She is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about psychology. Her course is very organized about when assignments are due and when exams are. Reading is very important in the course, the more you read and pay attention in class the better you'll do on the exams.
Dr. Hoyt is one of my favorite psych professors at OU, she has an easy and steady course structure. In this course, we had chapter quizzes (open note), four exams, and a blog assignment (easy). The lectures kept me interested and made me want to attend class. She also offers a lot of extra credit that I would suggest doing, regardless of your grade
My major issue in this class is that I was bored. The entire class was lecture and I could never stay focused. The class seemed to repeat other psych classes and eventually it began to repeat itself. Social psych is interesting, but this class wasn't. Reading the text is crucial for doing well on the exams and the exams are crucial for your grade.
She is a very chill professor and shes funny
Dr. Hoyt is a very caring and passionate professor; she makes jokes and slight small talk during lectures. Speaking of lectures, they are never boring, and I actually looked forward to attending. There aren't that many assignments, so your grades on them do really count. I would definitely recommend her classes.
Would definitely recommend anyone to have her for 1010. She states attendance is mandatory but you can never go and still get an A because the assignments and exams are based on the book. Exams are mostly just implementations of terms in the real world so just make sure you know examples and are able to explain terms. Everything is open note though
go to class. youll understand the material better if you do. she is also a great person so she will make the lectures fun
I really did not enjoy this class. Dr. Hoyt's exams and quizzes throw a lot of curveballs on material that was barely, if at all, mentioned in the textbooks. She makes PowerPoints on content that has nothing to do with the textbook reading, and we are expected to know all of it. She does bring humor to the class, but her personality is quite harsh.
super sweet!! love her
Lectures dont match up with quizzes and exams at all so as long as you have the book there is really no need to go to class. Dr.Hoyt is a very sweet lady and her class is fairly easy as long as you use your resources.
Very kind and caring, funny too. Lectures are pretty easy to follow and the quizzes are easy as long as you keep up with the material. Totally recommend!
Dr. Hoyt is very generous and makes the class easy to understand. She cracks jokes in class and posts everything you could possibly need on Blackboard. My only complaint is that I had no interest in attending lectures due to the boring presentation. Regardless, she is a great professor and I would love to take a class with her again.
A lot of the extra credit options it is hard to fail the class. The textbook is online and comes with the class fees. As long as you read the textbook throughout the week the tests will be very easy. The only issue is we do not always finish the chapters in class because we run out of time, but that is what the textbook is for.
she is a very easy going teacher easy to understand her content gives good examples an prepares you for the exams
Dr. Hoyt is very nice but her exams don't match up with her lecture content. Some exams and quizzes also don't match up with the required textbook.
She's very nice, but a lot of the quiz and test material isn't in lecture and isn't in the textbook. I don't know if she just hasn't updated her tests in a few years, but there's stuff on the tests that we NEVER talked about in class. Super annoying.
Dr. Hoyt is a very sweet person and cares about her students. However, in such a large lecture, it is difficult for her to actually get to know them. Her exams do not match her lecture slides or the textbook, which makes it difficult, but not impossible if you know the content. Good, not great class.
Dr. Hoyt's lectures are extremely boring. However, her class is extremely easy and she has clear expectations. She does crack some funny jokes during class, but I did not go for the last 3 months of the semester due to how boring it was and how easy it was to get an A without going to class.
This was one of the worst experiences I have had with a teacher. We have weekly discussion posts and if you have any other opinion other than hers be warned she will email you a list of the reasons you are disrespectful and send you links to websites trying to prove your OPINION wrong. Extremely biased and rude. easy class bad professor
Nothing really standout to say, but I did enjoy this class. Not many assignments, just weekly readings and reading quizzes, then 4 (online) exams spaced out across the semester. I went to all lectures and did well, but honestly (as other people have said), you probably could get away with not going to many classes. Super kind and engaging lecturer
Her comment responses to papers are a little mean spirited, in which is NOT necessary and very unprofessional. Other than that, she is good.
I enjoyed Dr. Hoyt's class. The textbook is "mandatory", but I did fine with just studying the key terms from the chapters and attending all the lectures. Attendance is not taken, but the lectures are good, easy to follow, and fun. Exams are online, and you do not go to class on exam days. I would recommend Hoyt to anyone needing a general psych.
She must have listened to feedback because this class was great. No tests, only quizzes. Textbook came with the course, and you had to read 2 chapters, 1 response question, and a video/Discussion board over 2 weeks. Super laid back, and easy to get an A if you just do the work. No lectures, pp etc. its on you!
I did like her class, she made the lessons interesting. The only thing that was hard was the exams. There were 4 in person exams, the study guides and the slides information were not the same kind of questions on the exam.
I enjoyed taking this class; I thought it was interesting. There are four exams (including the final) that are kind of hard. I definitely recommend attending as many lectures as possible and reading the textbook because the slides don't cover all the material. You have to get 6 SONA credits, and you can get 6 more for extra credit.
she is a very strict professor when it comes to grading. as for the lecture, her lectures and exams DO NOT line up. you HAVE to read the textbook and go through all the chapters if you want to know what your doing in the class. the lectures are boring, and her exams are very very content heavy.
While Dr. Hoyt is extremely nice and genuinely cares about students, if you can't take spoken notes you'll need to put in a LOT of extra time studying. 4 exams throughout the semester and a small individual presentation. Presentation is easy points. Exams are tough. Her lecture notes are not helpful. Get ready to read the book cover to cover!
Professor Hoyt's PSY1010 class is interesting, but her lectures and exams don't always align. Attending class and reading the textbook are key to success. I found unstuckstudy helpful for study prep alongside the course materials.
dr hoyt is such a lovely grandma. chapter quiz every week; very easy. exams are pencil paper with scantron, must study hard for them. she lectures very clearly and pauses to let you write your notes down. very kind lady, you should take her always.
Such a sweet Grandma :)
I love Dr. Hoyt she genuinely cares and I felt so comfortable around her. The exams in this class were difficult. You have to read every chapter of the textbook carefully and go to class regularly. I never did too great on the exams, but I really enjoyed Dr. Hoyt's lectures so I went to class often.
Dr. Hoyt is a funny, kind woman and is very knowledgeable when it comes to content. She can ramble some and attendance is not mandatory. Read the book and you should be good. Tests somewhat hard.
She honestly was one of my favorite professors this past semester. She's very engaging in her lectures; also makes sure to use a lot of examples so it's easy for you to connect. There are only four exams, all of which are easy if you study the lecture material. I would recommend getting the text because she uses some examples in her exams.
Her class is easy if you complete all the work on time. As a professor, she is very mean. I emailed her for help and she not only did not help me at all, but told me I should consider dropping a class or take a semester off. I dropped her class immediately after. She will not grant you any grace, so only take this class if you're mentally stable :)
My one problem with Professor Hoyt is that a lot of questions on exams are much different than the quizzes and the content taught through lectures. The mean score for most of the exams throughout the semester has been around 35/50 (70%), which is less a reflection on the students and more a reflection on her method of creating exam questions.
This was a relatively easy class to get a good grade in. I did well on her exams because i took the time to study and I went to class. If you memorize her notes you will do well. do the extra credit options and show up to class for bonus points
I am taking an 8-week course with her and the amount of work is kind of ridiculous. Two quizzes, two discussion posts, and two replies by Sunday. Every week until the semester ends. I made the mistake of taking PSY3520 and PSY3440 with her in the same semester. So that four quizzes, four discussion posts, and four replies by Sunday.
Great Teacher! Really gave all materials and resources for the course. Truly a great professor.
Dr Hoyt is a great professor. She's very caring, and her material is clear, and interesting. She shares interesting videos about the criminal justice system, and talks about legal news every day. Her exams are quite simple if you understand the material. I would take her class over and over again, definitely one of my favorite professors at OU.
Very kind and will answer any questions you have, however if you want to do well on exams you need to go to class and take notes because the slides don't mention most of the information needed but overall doable.
Hoyt is really a great professor, she obviously understands the material and its super clear that she wants her students to not only succeed but stay passionate for psych. The textbook with weekly online quizzes are definitely important, but the lectures are funny and lay out all the info in an easy to understand way.
