very nice. tests are strictly vocab. genuinely cares about each student.
syllabus seems overbearing at first. class seems disorganized. it gets better
seems overwhelming, its not, makes it interesting
Best psych class, wants all to succeed, exams and final easy
Classes are pointless, except you get points for going. Study vocab words for exams! Class seems overwhelming, it's not. Hang in there!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Easssssssssyyyy
Ouch! She must have made some changes based on previoius comments. The class was not as easy as I was told... A lot of work and although the grading is a bit laid back she still expects a decent effort. Not extremely hard but certainly not easy!!!!
Exellent teacher. Seems overwhelming at first, but she isnt. Tests are strictly vocab. She is on the whole more worried about actually teaching you something that just testing you on it. She is very knowlageable on her subject. Exellent teacher.
Class was very easy. Syllabus is like 50 pages long, but class is an easy A. Just study the vocabulary from the tests.
Really nice person! Study the vocab for the exams and you will be fine. The papers can be overwhelming but they are easy A's. I recommend her!
Going to class sucks, and she expects a lot: exams plus a presentation, plus a research paper. Lots of mumbo jumbo about rubrics; syllabus is 20 pages long and goes into way too much detail. One good thing is the grading is pretty easy.
I think she's awesome. Challenging but fair.
Loved the class- She also deserves a hot tamale but I don't see them showing up!

she is a very good prof. one group presentation and one final paper. the exams are based mainly on vocabulary. she is very intelligent and easy to listen to. if you get a chance definitely take her!!
good, nice teacher, but really really into herself and her daughters. but here's the tamale for whoever you are, i bet she was hot back in her hayday :)
YIKES! This class is not as easy as it sounds, there is a lot more to the tests then just vocab! She nust have changed her curriculum somewhat!
I really like this teacher. She is so smart and nice. She seems to really love what she does and is always there to help if anyone needs it. Definetly one of my favorite profs at SVSU. Take her!!!
This is an awesome prof!! Personable, doesn't put up with crap from students, and soooo smart! Work hard and you'll do fine but not just an easy A. Thank goodness she is at SVSU!! My favorite prof ever!!
tests are pretty easy, mostly vocab, presentation easy, final paper graded extememly hard, write the paper exactly in her form or you will get major points marked off
i took a year of psych in high school and this class was hard for me. Someone i knew took another psych 100 class with a different teacher and said it was easy & that they didnt even have to study. i studied 8 hrs for a test and got a C...waste of time
Great Professor, she is always willing to answer questions and clear up conflicting viewpoints. Tests aren't hard as long as you study the vocab.
She is an okay teacher, Her test are very hard. Her final is matching. She gives lots of examples, but uses a lot of terms that you don't understand, tends to get off the subject easy. I would not take her for another Psyc. class.
very smart and helpful lady, pretty stressful class, but interesting and very useful to future teachers
Take this teacher if you are more concerned with learning than an easy A. She's bright, personal, and interesting to listen to. Read the chapters as well as study your vocab and an A on tests is easy. Very nice and understanging, too!
Not very clear, or helpful. Not someone I would recommend for a great educational experience.
did very well on final paper. However, she seems too idealistic & thinks we're going to "mess up" in our teaching fields if we don't follow her guidelines. Sorry lady, the world isn't perfect & it'll never be (wish it was). Pretty easy class; just don't take everthing she says to heart. Good Luck
Overall, a good prof, and is very, very educated in her field. Tests are easy if you read the chapters and vocab. The only downfall is b/c she is so educated in her field, she thinks that her way and her way only is the right way. Just make sure to keep your own opinions in mind too.
Knows her stuff and tests are easy. You don't have to take notes, but do print off from Blackboard.
Not bad at all. Tests are all multiple choice and the final is all matching. She grades semi-hard on the paper though. Class is definitely worth taking.
Tests are all based on vocab; study that and they are all very easy. She has high standards for the one paper you have to do (8-12 pages), but I received a very good grade. Put in the time and you will do wonderful. The only bad thing is that the teacher is very pretentious. Okay class otherwise.
Lectures were very boring and she did not like questions. Became rude when students express opposing views. Tends to pick on students she does not like during lecture. Presents herself as an authority on life and everything in it.
yeah very educated but not able to get that knowledge into terms that I could understand. Why listen to lecture b/c they don't go with the book. DON'T TAKE HER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE
an exxoert on everything.she does not want to hear anyhing but her own voice. tests are all vocab, no need to do anyhting but learn the vocab...very easy. she doesnt like to hear from people who do not agree with her. very self centered and feels that she is the best. eay class, but uneventful.
Talks a lot, jumps around a lot. Tests are easy. Other assignments too time consuming.
This prof is great. There's a lot of studying involved, but if you try hard, you will do great. Involved in many time consuming research projects & still takes time to help students. Has lots of great knowledge to impart, due to many life experiences. Wonderful prof. Really cares about students. I highly recommend her if you're a dedicated student.
She's very opinionated, and has strong views. Tests are really easy, just know the vocab. She kind of annoyed me, but I liked the class.
Extremely boring class..Terminology way to advanced for mostly everyone to know..Very nice lady tho..Try to read a little of the chapter, but concentrate on the vocab, those are focused on in the tests..gives points for coming to class..called "participation points", but you never need to participate to get them all. Take someone else tho if youcan
Interesting class but lectures don't really correlate with tests because they are strictly vocab. All in all, shes not that bad.
Nice Professor.Everything is mapped out in the syllabus-follow the due dates and don't procrastinate. There is a big paper to write don't wait-she will start talking about it the first and 2nd class periods. You should start it right after that to do well.It is a big part of your grade.Attendance important-drops lowest test-1 group presentation proje
The first dau of class was a little overwelming, but do not get scared. She is a wonderful teacher, very knowledgable in her field and very passionate about here work. I loved her class and strongly recommend her!!!!!
She talks about nothing of importance to the tests in the class. She was rude when I e-mailed her with questions regarding assignments and tests. Not very helpful. I do not recommend her for this class.
basically she talked about so much other stuff that trying to understand what was going to be on the exams was difficult. KNOW YOUR VOCAB! she shows a lot of data...no good. doesnt help whatsoever. plan on teaching yourself if you take this class!
Enthusiastic professor who really cares about what she's teaching. During lecture, it's basically a class discuss about topics in ed psyc. Exams are very easy: strictly vocab from the book. All I did was review vocab the day before the test and I've aced every exam. Although exams are right from vocab, you will learn a lot from class disucssions.
She is very arrogant and thinks she knows everything. Don't get on her bad side, you will live to regret it. The class is pretty easy, the tests are all vocab. I just did my vocab during lecture so I could get participation for the class without having to listen to boring, nonrelevant lectures.
my first advise to anybody going to her class is to have a dictionary each time you go class. she uses to much of big words, she is extremely RUDE AND ARROGNANT. she often makes a lot of rude comment each time she comes to class. she expect very one to agree with her. her exams were not that easy. lectures were extremely off key. she thinks she is
She is really an awful teacher. No need to pay attention to her lectures because you're not tested on it. Just read the book and know your vocab, and you'll do fine on the test. Class is easy, but the prof. is rude and arrogant. She seems not to care about anyone else's ideas or comments, and she talks about herself and her accomplishments often
Yuck! says it best. Don't disagree with her or else! She always preaches don't tell your students what to think, then she tells you what to think. Subjects were all over the place but tests from the text so there not bad at all if you read. The paper was terrible. She knows everything, so humble your self before entering her domain. Don't take
Wow stay away from this prof! Class is pretty easy, but dealing with her is horriable. Thinks she knows everything, don't even bother sharing your ideas in class, she will tell you are wrong. Oh and don't think about going to the bathroom, she won't let you!
The BEST psych. professor ever. She is really excellent. Her lectures may seem disorderly to someone brand new to the field of psychology, but for advanced psych. students they will be crystal clear and make A LOT of sense. It was great she gave links to so many outside resources too; that way you always had something to do outside of class.
Like any science she expects you to leave your opinions outside the classroom and "go to the data". If you memorize the vocabulary in the chapters, the tests are super easy. She gives awesome links outside of class... overall, I'd recommend her.
This class was terrible. The attendence is required, but useless. The lectures were not at all helpful in any way. She talked more about her personal life and two PHDs than ed psych. Read the book and know the vocab. What a waste of time and money. Think twice before you take this prof.
The group project is entirely based off of what your group says about you. There is no way to change the grade you receive. The lectures were not necessarily helpful to the tests (which relies heavily on the vocab). The controversial issue paper is time consuming-follow her outline. She is not very helpful. Try not to take.
Pointless to attend class. She wanders and can't even answer a single question. Also allows some students to use class time as their private therapy session. Waste of time. Do the vocab while in class and get an A.
The class was extremely boring. It was more concentrated on graphs and charts than educational psychology. She is a very nice lady but she has to get her two cents into every situation. Like everyone else says her exams a pretty much off the vocab and your grade is 63% exam scores, but you do get to drop your worst exam score.
She is a fair teacher. Her test are always on the vocab. We had to write a 15-20 page paper that was not too hard, just time consuming. she really stresses the importance of teaching and to think critically about issues in the education field. Overall I really enjoyed her as a teacher. Take her if you have the opportunity!!
Not to bad. 2 group projects, one 15-20 page paper, tests are vocab only. Very time consuming course work. If you are a lazy student don't take her. If you are ready to make a commitment to learning psychology she is a must take professor.
Her lectures can go off on tangents, and she REALLY stresses her opinions, but she's an incredibly intelligent teacher and is very knowledgeable about her field. Her personality kind of annoys me but I've had her as a prof more than once, and don't regret it. She's an excellent person to learn from, you just have to get over the annoying parts.
She's a good professor, very knowledgeable. A couple of pain-in-the-butt papers to write... don't procrastinate. She has a strong background in neurobiology so she'd took something interesting like sex and turned it into the functions of certain nuclei in the brain... Truly I felt like there wasn't enough psychology in her curriculum.
Welcome to the world of Sandra Nagel...population 1. This woman is out of her ever loving mind. But, take the class if you don't mind extreme annoyance, irrelevance and boredom. Sure, you'll get an A or B, but you'll sacrifice your own sanity listening to this crazy lady babble.
The class was interesting. I enjoyed that she encouraged class discussion, though I do feel that sometimes it took up too much class time. Her tests were not difficult, just needed to review the slides before class. There were two long papers, but her grading was pretty flexible.
I was so excited to take this class because it sounded so interesting, i was very disappointed. Considering i am NOT a biology major i was extremely disappointed to find out that is what she expected for everything. This was supposed to be psychology class! She found any way to bring up herself in class and talk about her awesome life. Do not take!
One of the worst teacher I've ever had. Lectures went completely off topic and she babbles on for hours about things that are irrelevant to the class. Exams were nonsense and not what was covered in class or text. I am an A student and this class killed my average. AVOID HER!
One of the most pointless classes I've taken. Assignments are easy but stupid. You basically have to teach yourself because tests are strictly vocab from the book and hardly anything from her "lectures" make it on exams. If you didn't have to sign in for attendance, I probably would have only gone to class on exam days because she just rambles on and talks about nothing but what her opinions are and what she thinks.
This review is hard to write because Nagel is both terrible and wonderful at the same time. The way she presents ideas makes her seem terrible, but the ideas that she has are fantastic, even if they do seem strange. She's very knowledgable. I wish I would have taken her later in my college career, I think it would have been more useful.
This class was so pointless. I learned nothing because she's the type of teacher who just grades on whether she likes you or not. The tests were pure vocab regurgitation. Who learns anything from that?!
Attendance is mandatory, she makes you sign in and rate yourself 1-5, 5 being the highest on class participation and being on time. Hates when people are late. Her lectures are pointless, and has nothing to do with whats on your exam. Half the time she talks about herself and her research rather than the topic on hand.
Nagel is one of the worst profs I've ever had. Not only did she lecture off topic all the time and never let other opinnions surface, she was mean throughout the whole class to whoever asked a question. She's very judgemental and thinks that she's always right. I would just avoid her.
This class was required for my degree, and I hated it. Lectures did not cover material on the exams, but were mandatory. She makes you write a huge report, and is very picky about the details. I read the chapters and did vocab in class- the exams are practically all vocab. Avoid if possible.
She was an incredibly disrespectful teacher, and she often singled students out in front of the class. If you disagree with her, she will be spiteful. I didn't learn anything from her class, but it was a required course so I attended class and completed the course. I will never take her courses again, nor will I recommend her to others.
One the first day of class, her credentials amazed me. I had to wonder why she was teaching at SVSU. I found out quickly, she picks favorites (no big deal, who doesn't) but she picks people she can't stand in class and continually singles them out. Very bio oriented class, and she goes off her own "experiences" way too much. Avoid if you can.
This was the most unprofesstional professor I have ever had! She actually read an email in class that another student wrote questioning her tests. Then she spent an hour of class time talking about it! She was mean, picked favorites and constantly talked about herself. I highly recommend not ever taking her for any class.
Extremely unprofessional. Unique opnions are discouraged and punished. Very biology oriented, very little psychology based. If you dont agree with her research, dont expect to learn or grow academically. Very degrading to new ideas.
No point in listening to lectures because tests are all off vocab from book. Highly opinionated and she is always right because of all her experience and research. Very arrogant. She hates it when your late and you better not ask any stupid questions.
I thought it was an interesting class. She can get off of topic a little bit but other than that she was really helpful and is very supportive.
YELLS at at random people and makes kids cry. tells people what to do and its out right rude!!!
Very disrespectful towards students. Tends to treat adults like elementary school children and gets agitated when students leave to use the restroom. Classroom atmosphere is very uncomfortable and uneasy a lot of the time. Has made inappropriate comment is class. Can be very unprofessional at times. Avoid taking if possible.
If you are interested in learning from a seasoned professional with a strong sense of what students today need then take Dr. Nagel. She is one of the best professors I've ever had at SVSU. Her content knowledge is very high, and her opinions are actually facts based on peer-reviewed research. I am thankful for her as a person and resource.
Not a bad professor but not good either. I found that she went off on a lot of irrelevant tangents and sometimes made me feel like if I did something different than what she suggests, I am considered a bad teacher/person. Tests are basically vocab from the book, so copy from each chapter and you will be golden! Easy class, but not my favorite prof.
Hold you until the last minute or later of class. Her lectures are pointless even though she takes attendance. She gets off topic consistently. She's difficult to follow. Her exams are all definitions but she doesn't even go through any of them during class. She likes to talk the whole time, it's hard to stay awake.
Great teacher. Only uses book for exams. Exams are vocabulary right out of book and not difficult. Final is just matching and takes only 15 minutes. No homework except for one paper which is about 15 pages and a presentation that goes along with paper. It's not difficult as long as you put time into it. She is a very interesting lecturer and incredibly smart. I would highly recommend taking her for any psych class.
Shows a lot of movies and NOTHING from the lectures is on the test. The class is super easy if you review the vocab from the book because that is all the tests are on. I NEVER read the book and received an A in the class. I got 100% on the final exam, it was that easy. She is a really easy professor but not of the highest quality.
I love this prof. I take a course with her whenever possible. Lectures are not tested over, but she talks about relevant and interesting issues. do not take her if you are looking for her to regurgitate info from the book. she has high expectations and is not afraid to call you out if you fail to meet her expectations.
She has a very interesting background and tons of experience in psychology. She has been through everything you could think of. The most annoying thing about this class is that attendance is mandatory but its pointless because all of her exams are based off the book. She also gets off track a lot from talking about herself.
She is an awful teacher, she thinks shes always right and don't try having an opinion its always wrong. Her exams are difficult and have nothing to do with lecture. Her syllabus is confusing and she doesn't explain any assignment what so ever.
I don't like sitting for 4 hours looking at power points.
long class at a bad time on a bad day. better person and story telling in my opinion. would have to think about taking her again, but she admitted that our class was a bad day and time for her too. she is probably better at a different time of day. tests over the book, but doesn't really talk about it in class. study and you'll be fine.
I HIGHLY suggest that you do not take this prof. She thinks she is always right, and you can tell she does not care whether you fail or if you pass. If you want an easy A, don't take this class. If you don't want to be absolutely miserable, don't take this class.
Sandra is a VERY interesting professor. She has a lot of field experience in psychology (and higher education). She does lecture straight through, which most days is difficult. Always says things are based on "a whole lot of data", never shows you the data. 4 exams (all book vocab!), 1 cumulative, 1 17-page paper that blows. Still recommend.
4 tests all from the textbook, 1 cumulative final, lectured for the whole period, no homework/assignment to balance grades, attendance was a must, professor has great knowledge & experience but lacked teaching skills, she's like a C- professor
You take 4 exams (only the best 3 are counted), 1 cumulative final, turn in a huge research paper, group presentation, & attendance is graded. If you boom one part, you're pretty much screwed. Nagel is very smart and experienced in her field, but seriously, lecture and rant for 3 hours straight is bad. Always says "backed by data" but where is it?
Professor Nagel does not care whether you pass her class or not. Her tests almost always have nothing to do with what she has taught in class, so you will never know what she will be testing you over. She is also very rude in her approach to answering questions. I would not take this professor ever again!
Prof. Nagel expected graduate level work from me as an undergrad sophomore. Her tests are hard and don't relate to what she lectured about. She was very rude to students in my class and liked to brag about herself and everything she's accomplished. She boasted like she was the most important person in the world and we were mere peasants. AVOID!!
If you wanted a lecture to get out early, this isn't the place. Expect to be in class to the end regardless of exams. Goes through many tangents that can throw of her students. Still a very nice professor just hard to understand.
she's rude, full of herself, and yet she knows the subject well. even though she knows the subject well it won't help you, because she just talks about herself and her views. she told us our generation is full of egocentric people but she fails to see she is egocentric. she's not very flexible it's her way or the highway. Avoid her
Dr. Nagel is a tough professor, do not take her if you are looking for an easy A. If you are truly looking to learn and be treated like a competent adult do take her. She has a wide range of professional experience and is an incredibly intelligent woman. I have never learned so much in a class before. She is tough, but she is excellent!
She is a very very strict professor. She has knowledge but does not know how to deal with it. She is very much into herself. I would never ever take her class.
I love Dr. Nagel. She is knowledgeable and her class is really enjoyable. She is kind of traditional teacher and respects the students who respect her. She called those who looked the phone in class out. Tests are quite easy, just the terminologies from the textbook.
AWFUL, she talks about herself ALL the time. If you ask a question she is rude about it and says it is "Backed by data" but never shows data or proof there is any data. She can be mean and even harassed one older woman over email in our class cause she told her she was being rude for making fun of this poor lady's special ed child. VERY RUDE!!!
Professor Nagel has voice that can put you to sleep. Get ready for lectures all class and to hear her say "Does that make sense" every three minutes. She assigns a crazy amount of reading. I wouldn't take her if you had the choice.
She is always talking about herself and how she has all this data that she researched. She has never shown any data that she has recovered. I can honestly say I have never disliked a professor more than her. She always says "Does that make sense?" Like she clearly doesn't have the research she claims
Isn't very organized. Super condescending when she talks about the 'younger generation' basically says we're all spoiled brats. Be prepared to scroll through every single file she's ever uploaded on canvas because they're all labeled the same. Isn't specific on what she wants for a final paper. But will grade harshly anyway.
Horrible. Rants about todays generation. Has no sympathy and treats students like children. Doesnt explain anything. Will yammer about herself just to fill the course time to the max. Avoid at all costs.
Dr. SM Nagel is smart. Though, she is an awful professor. I literally did a tally and she said the words "data" and "research" over 50 times in one class period. The information said in lecture was not on the test. If you ask a question she will either say, "Email me" or "It's in your book" and make you feel stupid for asking.
She does not test on what is in the readings, it is basically on her lectures. Also she talks down to students as if they are ignorant.
Yes, the rants about the "data" are true. Yes, the phrase "Does this make sense" is used liberally. But, I would not avoid her at all costs. One easy HW assignment a week. 5 points for showing up and paying attention. She drops your lowest exam score, and curves the tests. I did not received any lower than a 97% on her exams, and im not super smart
Dr. Nagel is a really great professor. Many people say she is repetitive, but her saying "does that makes sense" never annoyed me. She just wants to make sure that we understand the content she is presenting.
Very repetitive, talks down to students at times. The lectures don't matter, if you read and study outside of class you could pass every exam without showing up, except she grades your participation through daily participation points. Not always respectful, and at times seems to push opinion on you. And yes she does say 'data' and 'research' a lot
Professor Nagel is very hard teacher to like and it is hard sitting through her three hour lectures. In her lectures all she talks about is her "data" and does not make information in the class easy to understand. She is very disrespectful towards students for example she called one student incompetent to her face. AVOID TEACHER AT ALL COSTS!
Make sure you read the assigned modules and take notes from them otherwise you won't pass the class. Every week you have a 5pt assignment that should be more points for the amount of effort they require. There's opportunity in the class to earn 20 EC points. Also, print the PPT out and take notes during her lecture, good for exam review.
AVOID HER. My class had an abundance of people drop in the begin, and a majority who didn't now say they regret staying in it. She expects students to go into the material at a much deeper depth than what her lectures cover. She stated it was "academically irresponsible" for her class to finish above a 70% average. That is literally 50% failing.
Tests are very hard. Lots of reading. She goes off on tangents about her research yet doesn't mention it.
Stay away.
