Her lab test are very difficult. Reads pretty much right from her notes. Would be great to get a copy of those. Very good class and instructor. Would take another class with her. Download outline out of book off internet to follow lectures. Go to all labs because you will need to- to pass.
Labs are difficult, but study material and your ok. Get copies of sample tests from library, study them. You cant sit back and pass this class, but if u apply yourself, its not that hard. She is very clear in lectures and repeat anything 100 times if you dont understand.
She is a great teacher. She teaches straight from the book. Shes not out to trick you on the test. She offers lots of easy bonus points. I wish she taught 1162. Would def. take again. Dont get me wrong, this is no laid back course, be prepared to study!
she is a good teacher. her lab test are really hard so you have to study a lot. her notes come straight from the book just high light. her lecture test questions come from the summary and she has old test in the library and alot of the test questions come from the old test. she is really a good teacher.
Mrs. purifoy is the worst professor I have ever had. She is very intimidating and offers no encouragement to her students. She does a horrible job at covering the subject material. She spends a majority of time discussing her family, and she reads the text book to us verbatim during class. I am NOT illiterate i CAN read for my self.
Lecture tests are pretty easy, listing/discussion ? is the hard part. Do the Writing to Learn Assignment to keep from doing the listing ? on the final exam. Lab test are KILLERS but normally everyone fails all but the last one. As long as you past one lab and do OK on the lectures you will pass. DO ALL XTRA CREDIT OFFERED. Class is hard.
She's a really nice women, but her tests are VERY hard. She gives a few extra credit. Definately take advantage of them. She pretty much tells you exactly what the book says. If you want to pass, you better keep your nose in the book daily.

Very good teacher. She explains things well both in lecture and lab. You definitely learn a lot with her but just pay attention in class and you will do well. She does give extra credit opportunity...take it. I would definitely take her again if I could for my next Biology.
Does not grade fairly, talks down to students and cannot provide any educational assistance other than exactly what the book says
She was the WORST teacher I've ever taken. I have never failed a class in my life and I miserably failed hers. She does not care if her students pass or fail. We started out with at least 60 in the class we ended with 10 and out of that 10...I know of three of us that failed. I would not recommend.
One of the worst classes ever, very rude and uncompassionate, Lecture tests are OK but discussion is a killer, everyone fails Labs-except the last one!
She was vrey hard and made it very dfficult to pass her class. I would study until 4am inthe morning and still would not make the grade I thought I had. She was justa difficult instuctor to understand. I got out of the class by the skin of my teeth.
You have to study constantly to pass but its not too hard. She just reads the book to you without really teaching but she explains after every paragraph.
If you study from her powerpoint slides, you pass the lecture tests easily. Labs are harder. She gives 10 pts bonus on EVERY TEST. She doesn't curve, and expects you to work hard - but with that 10 pt bonus, you've got a built in buffer! She will answer your questions if you take the time to ask - but you've got to be quick, or she'll move on!
Don't need to teach. I have her for my A & P class and she is not a good teacher. She needs to be replaced. She doesn't care if you pass or fail and thats sad. She is one of those professors who ENJOY failing students.
I previously rated my professor stating she should not teach and other things about her and I want to apologize.Even though I might fail her class this semester, she is doing what she think is the right thing. I do feel like she could make things easier, like her test, but that?s just my view on your class. Mrs. Purifoy if you read this I am sorry
She is not a very good teacher, she doesn't care if u do good in her class or not! Do not take her she is very hard you can study all you want it wont help!
I took this teacher last semester and am currently taking 1002 with her. i've heard that shes extremely hard in her a&p class, but i think her intro to biology is fairly easy. all you have to do is copy the definitions in the book and print out the notes and you'll be fine.
I'm not sure why this lady has this bad of a rating. She's very helpful and really understanding . Gives 10 point bonuses on tests AND 10 point bonus assignments before tests that go toward the test grade. They make a letter grade difference! Great prof for non-science majors.
I found Ms. Purifoy an excellent teacher. I don't seek out teachers who are easy, I seek out classes to fulfill my curriculum. This is college and these teachers aren't required to handfeed students the information. Ms. Purifoy fulfilled her requirements as a teacher as far as I see. I learned the material and retained it. I earned the grade I received and Ms. Purifoy offered extra credit and was more than willing to help via email or office hours as well as in class.
Has a very passive speaking style-uses "kind of" and "sort of" in every sentence. Makes it difficult to pay attention. Wouldn't consider study guide or review when asked.(Side Note:Not sure why the labs are separate from class-might make the material easier to grasp by actually doing something w/ the info.)
Oh my geez. This woman is so monotone. While it is true that she gives bonus and will help if you ask, it does no good. She chooses the most complicated things in a chapter and puts them on the tests. Even with the bonus, you will have to know the chapters and lab objectives inside and out to make a passing grade.
Mrs.Purifoy is an amazing and very intelligent teacher! She may be a bit boring sometimes but she gets to the point! She offers ways to improve your grade with bonus points! Tutoring is also a must! At mid terms I had a D average, so I did all the bonus points and went to tutoring, I passed her class with a B! If you apply yourself you can do it!
Absolutely a great teacher... Her test are hard but if you study you will have no problem!!
Very nice lady. Is willing to help if you're willing to work. Bonus points are offered before every test AND on each test. Class itself is boring since she reads straight from the power points. but if you study her power points you will pass.

Mrs.Purifoy is a great teacher and really helpful. Her lectures can be very boring but I wouldn't have missed one if my life depended on it. My lab grade saved my grade though because she tells you exactly what will be on the lab exam. I also got a great study buddy. Running things by someone else is a major plus! The class requires you to study!
Good lord... the only thing I learned this semester was how she should be in the Guinness Book of World Records for how many times you can say "kinda" and "it's pretty interesting when you think about it" in an hour. I could be a professor too if my lesson plan consisted on reading out of a book and use a publishing companies powerpoint.
Mrs. Purifoy is an amazing professor. at first i wasn't sure if i was going to do good. but if you put effort forth and study you will do fine. but you have to study!!! her lectures are very thorough and she's willing to answer any questions! I highly recommend taking her!
Purifoy is a nice woman and she knows her stuff, but for a non-med major this class was extremely hard. She gives alot of power points and only about 15% of it is on the test.
She is so kind! She is willing to help and provides you all the materials that are going to on lab and lecture tests! I love her and if you really want to learn, not memorize then take her. She's lovely =)
Very good teacher. Great lectures and I love her labs. Even though labs exams are kinda hard if u put forth the effort to study you can't go wrong. Plus she is helpful and always ready to give help.
Oh my goodness, this woman should not be teaching! She is always late to class, she reads straight from her slides and doesn't give you help when you ask. The bonus points don't help because your failing already. Her tests are ridiculous, half of what she tells you to study isn't on her tests! I would NOT reccomend her to anyone! EVER!!!
Passable but very boring. She reads DIRECTLY off her PowerPoints. If attendance wasn't taken, it wouldn't be necessary to show up to do well. I only used the book for references in lab. She wastes too much time doing pointless exercises that have NOTHING to do with the subject matter & tries to rush through material at the end...at least it's easy
Mrs. Purifoy was a wonderful professor :). Her lab was very fun and interesting. I would definitely recommend her! I don't know why there are so many negative reviews. I'm sorry to say it but stop being vag inas people! It's not high school. She does not have to baby you. Study!
Fast paced lectures. Does not help you at all what so ever. Tests are extremely hard and this is coming from a Kineiology major. My whole class is failing except for two people and she doesn't seems to care not one bit!! Expects us to take time off of work and other things to study for ONLY this class! NUTS!!!!!!
This class is difficult. You must study. Ms. Purifoy is extremely knowledgeable. Ask her what might be on the test. She has her favorite subject matter. Good luck.
Great teacher and very helpful, but tests are very difficult as well as lab exams. The course would be much easier if the lecture and lab material would be about the same topic. She does give lots of bonus points and lab assignments are super easy.
The lab is a chapter ahead of lecture. The lab tests are not organized or specific. She will repeat a lecture two or three times before moving on which sets the homework material weeks ahead of the lecture material. Her time management skills are extremely poor she'll spend weeks on one chapter then cram in another chapter two days before the test
Very hard to pay attention to. I would try my hardest to listen but she couldn't keep my attention. I had to drop the class.
Granted, I did have to take her course a second time. Although, she did change a few things to make the class more interesting and also created more ways in order for students to earn a little more extra credit in the class. As long as you take good notes, study those notes and do the practice work, then you will pass. She is a very good prof!!
OMG! Don't take this class with Purifoy. I've never met a Professor that has no sense of time (arrives to class late), takes forever to grade your Exams & never returns them, test covers a lot of the material from book & not slides (that she goes over daily), CRAMS LECTURE NOTES days before Exam & lies about what exactly will be on the EXAM!!
DON'T SKIP CLASS-KEEP UP WITH THE WORK. YOU'LL NEVER COVER ALL OF THE MATERIAL BY CRAMMING THE NIGHT BEFORE. If you need help, ask. Particularly with lab assignments, she will stay and go over the lab lecture in its entirety once class is over if even only one person needs to hear it again. Lab exams are hard.
Gives bonus for going to SI sessions, use those to your advantage. You will need them. Test material NEVER comes from the power points. Read the chapters and know all the material even the little things. Lab tests are very difficult, but she will help you if you ask. Do connect assignments that will determine if you pass or fail big impact in grade
Homework due every Friday night. Lab exams are extremely hard and confusing and lecture exams come from the book, too, not just the slides she goes over everyday. She does give bonus and there are SI sessions to help with the class but you must go to at least 8 sessions to get 10 points. Not impossible to pass, but the class is difficult.
Go to class (including lab) and you'll pass. She's a very sweet lady who does care and want you to pass. Ask for help if you don't understand. Tests are really difficult, but take good notes and read before coming to class!
Mrs. Purifoy is a very sweet lady and is very willing to help if you approach her. Her lectures can be a bit strange. The first lab she spent most of it talking about a cake reference that made no sense. Her lab exams are tough. Go to the extra credit SI sessions and study the book very well. The book is very important and your best resource.
This professor was the worst I've ever taken!! The lectures felt like forever because she was monotone. I had to drop the class after being in it for 10 weeks becuase there was no way I could pass. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER!!
Ms. Purifoy is an amazing professor, but you have to work for your grade in her class. Make sure you go to every lab and take pictures of everything. Lab objectives are key!!!!!! For lecture, study the PowerPoints and try to read main points in chapter. If you are dedicated, you will pass. She also gives extra credit for SI sessions. Go!
Grades very hard. Doesn't teach clearly... scatter brained most of the time. You have to go home and teach yourself basically
She's very scatterbrained, teaches all over the place. Don't even think of taking your test home when she gives it to you. She will call campus police. Very difficult class. If not a nursing major, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Extremely hard!
Shes very monotoned and hard to keep up with. She doesnt test on the material she lectures on that is in the PowerPoint. You basically have to teach yourself. Lab was somewhat easy if you went to SI although it was a chapter ahead of lecture. I do not recommend. Had to drop the class and ended up wasting money and time.

Her lectures have nothing to do with any of the test she gives out. I had stay to do extra credit work and she glanced over my work and told me it was correct and right and turned the paper in and when I received the paper back I had received a 0, when she all ready looked at it and told us it was correct. DO NOT PICK this teacher.
Nice person, but not the best teacher. Her test were not focused on the lectures and her lectures were scattered. She often repeated past material. Her labs are more enjoyable and the test are easy. She also took the entire semester to grade test and other assignments. I did not feel prepared for future classes after taking her class.
This class is tough. She does not teach, just reads off PowerPoint. Tests are terrible. For lab she talks for 30 mins then you learn it yourself. You have to be extremely smart to pass. Take Bowers if you can!!
Loved taking her class. It is not an easy A but she will take her time and work with you if she knows you are actually trying.

I learned so much is this class. I followed the instructions on the syllabus, and read the chapters before going to lecture. This really helped. I made tons of note cards for the lab quizzes, which also really helped. The content is complex, but Ms. Purifoy was always available to help talk through where I was getting stuck.
Makes you work for your grade. My tips are to study ahead of time and do sections every day as well as review what you already studied. By the time the test comes around, you'll feel more confident if you do this. A ton of notecards for lab. Lab exams are harder than lecture exams. A bonus on every test. Don't even think ab skipping. Lectures suck.

Class isnt very interesting. Ive taken it in high school and loved it and had an A and now its my worst class.
You will definitely work for your grade in this class! What you give in is what you get out. As long as you put in the effort to learn & approach it with a positive attitude, you will be fine! Exams are not too difficult, definitely have to study. Attend SI sessions, theyre helpful.
Worst professor. She shows up very late to class, never responds to emails, and only reads off her powerpoint. Her powerpoints are okay, but she doesnt have anything else to add when reading them. Most of the time she wouldnt finish exams or class and would email students to read chapters instead.
she literally doesn't teach. she just reads off of her powerpoints and automatically expects us to know what's going on. her tests and quizzes have absolutely nothing to do with the information that comes from the powerpoints. she doesn't teach and her tests are so hard even if you study your butt off.
Taking this class online was the worst decision I've made this semester. Would not recommend taking her. She reads everything from the powerpoint and the test have absolutely nothing to do with the Study Guides.

Do not study her study guides she provides if you are taking her for human anatomy or you will fail. I learned halfway through the semester that everything on her lecture exams is word for word out of the book so you will have to read it. She does not really teach but rather just reads off the PowerPoints so get ready for that.
In my personal opinion you get what you give in this class. She is very willing to help as long as you go out of your way to ask questions, especially in lab! Read the chapters and study the PowerPoints and you will be fine for lecture exams and study the lab objectives for lab exams. This class is not easy by any means but put forth effort!
The worst professor I have ever had. She does not teach you a thing. There were at least 30 people in the class to start but by the end there were about 10 of us left because more than half the class was failing and had to drop it. I feel bad for anyone who has to take her class because if you aren't a science genius you will fail this course.
Must pay attention in lecture, shes very straightforward. If you have a lab with her you must know the material or you will fail miserably

Always 20-30 minutes late for class, including exams. During lectures she just reads powerpoints (and rarely finishes) and does not engage with students. 30 minutes late and unprepared for final exam. Lab exams are EXTREMELY difficult and impossible to learn all material.Can be rude and unprofessional.Wish there were more professor options for A&P.
Don't study the study guide she provides because you might fail. I learned by midterms that everything about her lecture test is verbatim in the book, so you'll have to read it. She doesn't teach but just reads PowerPoint, so be prepared for that.
This professor does not respond to e-mails. She also is not very technologically inclined. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Those of us that passed only did so because we helped each other using GroupMe.

The assignments are the equivalent of busy work in high school, she told us to look over the study guides for the test but we had to fill out the guides, which I can understand but the test was 50 questions over 5 chapters and each study guide had over 50 questions each making it all a huge waste of time.
I wouldn't recommend taking her class because she's always 10-20 mins late and comes up with some random excuse as to why she is late. She reads from her powerpoint and doesn't teach. Her tests are very hard because she does not give accommodating material for studying I would study powerpoint, study guides and practice exams she gave and struggled
I have never had a professor that was so unprofessional. 20-30 minutes late to class, even with exams. She directed us to the disability services (The entire class) if we were struggling in her class because we were the problem... the whole class. She told us if they could not help, see a doctor LOL. Your grades will not be put in on time at all.
This was the worst class I have ever taken at LSUA. I have never had a teacher who would recommend study guides and not have the material on the test. None. I have never had a teacher who would put off grading like this one. She graded assignment one on week 10. The department is her buddies. Good luck getting anyone to put their foot down.
She does not respond to emails or show up on time, puts off grading, and has no accountability. She can be 20-30 minutes late for a lecture, but you better show up on time for exam day. She will give you a million reasons why she can't do her responsibilities as a teacher. She told our entire class we should see a doctor bc we were struggling.
Did not supply the correct information in order to be successful in the course. What we were assigned to read was NOT on the test.
Horrible professor. You will regret. Shows up 10-30 minutes late (even the first day of school) and has 1 million excuses on why she was late. The excuse for the first day of school was "trigger finger". She talks so slow and will bore you to sleep. Barley any participation from her classes and will not grade anything on time, cant use technology.
worst professor I have ever had. will show up 20-30 mins late to class every day and try to hold you past the end of class. Exams are back-to-back. She only gives you a week or less than a week notice of when the exam will be. While there is 100+ slides that you will have to re-teach yourself to prepare for exam.
She was okay. As the semester went on, the lectures became more jumbled together to cover more material. This class takes a lot of dedication to get a good grade, but she offers bonus points. She is very monotone but is very knowledgeable about this course. She is also a kind woman outside of class.
You get what you put in. If you don't try you are not going to pass. I find it crazy how some people fail this class there is absolutely no way unless you don't study and don't show up to class. You are a college student it is expected to study and attend your classes. Everything you need to pass is available to you, take advantage of that!!
So many opportunities for extra credit. Labs are tough but if you attend them, it is very doable to pass. She gives very clear instructions on how to pass the class. None of her labs or lectures have mandatory attendance but going is crucial to passing. She does not give much room for missing exams if you are sick and has very strict policies.
At minimum 7 minutes late to both lab and lecture daily, that is if she doesn't cancel class like 10-30 minutes beforehand. Speaks extremely slowly and monotoned, yet clicks through slides too fast to take good notes. Study guides are only here to misguide you, and her lab exams are abysmal. Only plus is her willingness to answer questions.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. I have had her for 3 classes and all have been awful. Her test are nothing like what she says will be on it, so definitely DON'T depend on the study guide. I mean this so much because I made a quizlet exactly like the SG and studied for over 8+ hours and ended up making a 35/100. She also takes FOREVER to give grades back.
One of the worst prof. Ive ever had. She just reads off the the slides and is ALWAYS at least 12 minutes late to class and thats if she doesn't cancel class while everyone is at the classroom waiting for her to show up. We're 2 units behind as well due to her pushing the 1st test back for a MONTH. Your better off doing this class online or at a CC.
