she's awesome! helpful, clear, and interesting.
I have no clean comments to give.

She means well but she forgets that this is an intro course. I would also like to mention that someone had their final paper written by a 3rd year phil student at UVic and received a 85% on the paper! Good luck to all phil 100 students.
nice person, but the class is very confusing. too confusing to be called 100.
Sandy is a nice person, but she doesn't weight her exam marks very well, and she is also confusing and on edge
a nice teacher but it's too confusing....
Ability to spell and ability to teach are both somewhat innate qualities. This teacher has neither. Avoid at all costs unless masochistic.
Very nice person, but doesn't quite know how to explain things very well.
Guess what? Philosophy's a tough subject and takes alot of effort on the student's part. Sandy explains things as well as can be expected.
sandy is new to teaching and it's hard to explain some of this stuff, nevermind dealing with students who think it's not necessary to do readings or that the class should be fluffy and simplistic. she won't hand you an 'a', but she'll help you get it.
Most people who start in Sandy's class are twinkies looking for an easy "A". Sandy weeds them out, and gives the rest of her students a run for thier educational money! She gives background on the subject matter, and is always willing to help. S
Do not take this class in spring or summer, Sandy is best when she has 13 weeks to give the information you need. Those who didn't like her simply didn't study hard enough and I would like it if we could post their grades to prove it.
Sandy seems very into Philosophy, but isn't into class participation. She seemed to expect very specific arguments to be presented in our essays, which made it hard to be creative. I took Philosophy to think independantly, not to be told what to think.
sandy is great. She is certainly still getting used to teaching, but she has a lot of offer her students.
Don't miss any of her classes (even if it's for work) she doesn't seem to take kindly to it.
It's an easy class but it is not easy to get a good grade. Philosophy is like everything else at college level you have to teach yourself. All things considered a good class, and one I would take again. YOU GOTTA BE LIFTED TO FULLY ENJOY THIS CLASS!!!
doesn't like to repeat herself, possibly may treat girls differently than guys (and not in a good way). Quite strict.
Cheerful and clear, Sandy Bannikof is as helpful as you need her to be. She's stern when necesary and her class material is enlightening.
Sandy is obviously new to teaching and gets a little stressed out in class. That said, she loves what she does and it shows, she's still getting into the material and teaching, but isn't afraid to admit what she doesn't know. She definitely tries to help.

Sandi is the worst instructor Ive ever had. She is rude to students and her exams are unclear and she is not an easy marker at all!
For those who havn't realized they have to think for thenselves yet Sandy's is hard. But she is willing to help you develop your thoughts--this is not easy, but very educational.
very hard to understand her for the first 3 months. it took me until the last few weeks of class to understand what she expected.
she is a nice person outside of the class room but she needs to remeber that 100 level courses are just for that reason. IT's intro... not advanced and some of us are still fairly new to the post secondary game (we're by no means masters)
Sandy seems nice but she is too strict and difficult with marking.
If you can, take courses with Sandy. She is challenging but entirely accessible. Her classes are quirky and encourage discussion/debate. Further, philosophy will not earn you an easy "A"; study hard or stay home.
Sandy is approachable and I loved the fact that she set up the class for discussion in the seminar part. If you want to better your writing you can learn a great deal from her.
I'm sure Sandy is a nice person, but I find she is unclear in explanations, discourages group discussion, doesn't understand questions being asked by students & won't go beyond the curriculum to clarify a point or answer questions posed to her. Open up!!!
After taking a class with Sandy, I'm lucky to have been on her good side. This spring my friend had her and Sandy refused to go out of her way to help my friend because they didn't hit it off the first class. Teachers should be impartial to thier students
She is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. She doesn't explain her reasonings and marks lower if challenged. She is not helpful at all and I would never recommend her to anyone.
Sandy is unapproachable and her exams are unclear. I do not recommend her to anyone.
shes alright, i have to say
sandy's hot, and she plays with her hair when she's talking about plato
She's very unclear, I didn't like her teaching style. She was not helpful at all if you had any questions. I would strongly recommend not taking any classes with her.
Dont take courses with her unless you have no other options. Very unclear in her teaching, unflexible in her thinking, and an overall unenjoyable experience. Tests for this paticular class were a breeze, but i pity the fool that actually has a real course with her teaching. DONT BE LATE TO CLASS.
MEAN MEAN MEAN! Since the first day of class she didn't like me. If you are not her favourite than you are done! She talked down to me, was very unapproachable and gave me 0/10 on my paper because she did not agree with my opinions, isnt that what phil is all about? Maybe she should not be a teacher!
Easiest course I've ever taken ... I mean, easier than Comp 156, and I got 96% in that.I can't believe anyone could ever call any one of her courses hard; easiest tests ever. I've skipped 40-50% of the classes and have 97% ... so dumb easy
Sandy makes this class so good, it makes eatting pie look difficult. Be sure to ask lots of questions, the more participation, the better the class.
If you ask her a question rudely, she isnt going to put much effort into helping you, and may even be rude back(i say good for her). However,if your respectful she will be VERY helpful. If you cant be on time for early class's, dont take this,She wont take late hw, and its worth 25% of your mark.
Sandy is an awsome teacher, she really cares that her students understand the material... people say shes stuck in her opinions but i think it's more a case of she is trying to get across to you what the philosopher is saying. Advice: dont talk on class, be respectful, ask questions, and be on time!
Her marking is very inconsistent. Lectures are useless - buy the text and learn it on your own.
I LIKED her... she was nice, she was an EASY marker, if you're not an ass, she isn't an ass to you. I liked her. A lot! VERY Good teacher
very inconsistent marking scheme, fairly mean to students, does not fascilitate discussion, and tells you exactly what you read in the text (there is no point to her lectures because she merely states what you read). I deffinetly do not recommend, try and find a different teacher for this course.
Wonderful woman, this one. I find her helpful, consistent, kind, and clear. Look, if you want to do well, put the effort in, you'll do find with Sandy. If you are looking for a bird course, don't take a class with her; better still, don't take any classes.
Sandy provided a very comfortable means to explore the rudiments of philosophy. I very much enjoyed the classes, and encourage others to seek Sandy out as an instructor
Very unfair, plays to her favorites which happen to be women alot of the time. Didn't like me because I was a jock, snapped at everything i said... totally detered me from taking any future phil classes... atleast at camosun.
Sandy is patient, kind, and dedicated. The course material is generally learning what past philosophers thought, and she makes sure you understand their points of view. The more questions and discussion, the better the course is for everyone. She is extremely fair and pleasant.

-Unclear notes, hard to decipher. -Good listener, but doesn't facilitate understanding, just wants to talk and listen about nearly anything. -Bad/dull assignments -INCONSISTANT GRADING (it's clear she doesn't really know what she wants from her assignments) -she is a new teacher. room to improve
Sandy is a great teacher. dont take a class with her if you want an easy ride; be prepared to be challenged and work hard, but you will come out of it a deeper, more critical thinker. she is very helpful in and out of class.

She is one of my least favorite teachers. Plays favorites ( I know that sounds childish) but if you are someone she doesn't like you'll know it! S
Had some serious issues with this teacher, her tests consist of regurgitation onto the page - dont expect to be "intellectually challenged". If your not a favourite of hers, this will be a very frustrating course for you. I really do wish that her quality of teaching even approached what I've had from other teachers here. Avoid Her.
This class is interesting but I actually fell asleep while reading the text. Sandi is a good teacher but the course itself is a little boring. Ok, A lot boring.
I enjoy philosophy and loved Sandy's article selection for this course. She comes across as a timid instructor (almost too nice at times). However, she knows the articles really well and introduces them so that you can comprehend them the first time through.
Sandy, is horrible at explaining the concepts of Philosophy. Not only is the class and material boring, but it is also irrelevant.Sandy is unapproachable, demeaning and not very helpful. She marks you on grammar when she says she won't and she takes it as a personal insult when you leave class.Don't take this class if you can help it!Don't take her!
Average teacher. My two complaints are that she doesn't give enough new examples not shown in the textbook, and that she tends to run the class at the slowest persons pace. She is completely approachable and willing to help if you need it.
Probably the nicest professor I have ever had with an interesting sense of humor. The only people she doesn;t like are students who waste class time by debating the material which she has no choice over teaching (especially descarte). The people who don't enjoy Sandy's classes should shut up so the rest of us can enjoy them.
Nice teacher. Exams mainly consist of an essay and short answer. Essays are marked hard though. Not much homework at all for this class. Only real complaint is that she assigns an essay practically in the last week of classes, hard to write during exam period!
I adore her. She's very soft spoken and sweet. I didn't use the course book because she taught everything that I needed to know very clearly in lecture. Clear expectatations. Answers questions very well, and is lovely to talk to outside of class. Phil 210 wasn't stressful, and math is my worst subject. It was even fun at times! It was too easy ;)
Sandy is decisively one of the most comprenhensive instructors that I have had in my entire career as a student. She is both intelligent, and passionate about philosophy... so if its philosophy that interests you, TAKE HER COURSES!
Infectous love of subject, that isn't discouraged by first year immatures who think they are smarter then Plato and descartes. Personality gives her a bit of "I bet she's fun in the sack."
I really liked taking Sandy's class. She is a young, fun teacher who is willing to help if you ask. All of her tests for our class were open book. You must attend every lecture and take the notes/do the homework and hand it in to get the 'Homework Marks'. Easy to pass! I recommend!
Very cute
I really didn't like her class. She focus' on Descartes even though she hates him. It was a very boring class and by the end, I hated going.
She seems mindless.
Very hard course.
Probably the worst professor I've had thus far. Definitely mindless: she seems uninterested and wishy-washy, as if she didn't seem to know what was going on or had no opinions of her own. Next to no personality besides that of someone who seemed afraid to break out of her nest. believe she acquired her job her by relying on former sentimentalities
Basically Useless. I would NEVER take a course with her except that I require 210 for my degree. I wish her all the worst.
Her notes are unclear on the board and if you aren't interested in Philosophy you will want to sleep every class.

Sandy is somewhat reserved and aloof. It seems like she's been grumpy on quite a few occasions, and can be a bit impatient at times. Overall a good instructor, but needs to be more personable.
Sandy is excellent. She is very clear and very helpful, i think shes one of the best in Camosun, i would love to take an other class with her. Show up to class and do the work she assigns, its a piece of cake. I loved her and her class
Started off on the wrong foot with her, but I grew to like her more later on. Nice personality but can be rude when course material is challenged. Complained about how engaged our class was but didn't give us enough to really "chew on" ie. she could have asked the class more engaging, relevant questions.
Bad teacher, if you go to class and copy what she says and the parrot the info on your essay-tests you'll breeze through, but if you have opinions/ideas that vary too much from hers, it doesn't go over very well. not helpful with questions on material, she hadn't recently read it, even taught a couple of things wrong.. takes all the fun from phil
Sandy's decent but a little to shy and doesn't always give the feeling she really knows the background to the material (she knows nothing about Greece or France). Great teacher if your not good at philosphy though, as she generally spells everything out for you. Fun and easygoing.
Sandy loves to spark debates during seminars, (which you need to attend to get your 10% participation mark). Tests were only on the assigned readings, so make sure you understand them and formulate your responses before the exam. You can never tell if she likes you or hates your guts.
Sandy is condescending and air-headed. I don't think she has ever examined her own views before. If you aren't all "la-di-da" fairytale philosophy, don't take her class. She marks extensively on grammar in exams and expects you to spend 8 hours studying for them. If you do take her class, make sure your papers conform to her views.
New title for the philosophy 206 course I'm taking with her: How not to teach philosophy. Speaking with 9 philosophy classes previously taken, she does not know how to teach philosophy. Unclear, vague, overly obsessed with Wittgenstein. No idea of actual philosophical processes.
Sandy is nice lady, but a professor of philosophy she is not. She has absolutely no idea how to properly explain concepts or maintain class attention. I am halfway through this class and so far have not experience a single proper philosophical discussion.
Her class was very easy, with little to no effort required for an A, but you have to do things her way. I think she means to be a nice person, and is most of the time, but she gets defensive and rude very easily. Be careful not to accidentally offend her (it isn't hard) and you'll be fine.
I have no idea what she is trying to say. She writes random words on the board and expects you to understand what she is talking about. I should of not shown up to any classes at all.
Sandy is a nice person but not a very good teacher. She is impossible to understand and is very unclear, and sometimes doesn't seem to undestand the material herself.
If you are looking for a teacher that will hold your hand and indulge pretentious yammering, Sandy is not for you. If, however, you want a philosophy class that foregoes wishy washy garbage and offers honest challenge to students, you will not be disappointed.
Sandy is a a wonderful teacher. Very nice, and helpful. Her seminars are what kept the class discussions interesting. Her method of teaching is basically, copying everything on the board, and re-read the prescribed readings. Easy A for sure.
I had to work extremely hard to get an A in this class. Sandy uses very complicated language and expects you to understand what she is saying. You can not miss any classes because homework is due at the BEGINNING of class, and assigned at the end: if that was not the case, I would not have gone to class. Caffeine is ALWAYS needed for her lectures!
Very biased in her presentations of philosophers. If she doesn't like you, you're in for a rough journey. Great coursepacks though...I actually keep them.
She goes through the material incredibly thoroughly. Exams are open books and notes. She is very helpful, homework is assigned every class and she goes through it at the beginnings. She takes it slow and makes sure the class understands the concepts before moving on. I don't see how anyone couldn't get an A in this class with her! Boring Lectures
Took Phil 102 & 206 w/ Sandy, found her to be a great teacher. Very knowledgable, friendly, willing to discuss at length any questions you may have. I found those who didn't like her usually didn't put in the time or effort and Sandy won't hold your hand throughout. Expect to do your readings or have problems. Seminars depend on group participation
Sandy has a lack of clarity that outshines her boring lectures. She lacks the ability to explain fully what she wants from a student's assignments. She yells at students in class and wastes class time for her tantrums. She has spent over 25 mins of class time reaming a student out on more than one occasion.
I found Mrs. Bannikoff to respond rudely to "dumb" questions. She is extremely unapproachable and rarely managed two satisfy questions my classmates and I had If you are the kind of student who depends on teacher help a lot, I suggest finding a different prof. Ending on a good note, she certainly seems to know her stuff when it comes to phil.
I found Sandy to be very temperamental at times. Any questions that did not directly relate to the lecture were abruptly dismissed. I was taken back by how unhelpful she was about answering questions. Mediocre teacher at best. Interesting course pack though
She's really nice, and easy to talk to
sandy turned me off of philosophy. for a subject that requires so many questions, she certainly didn't like hearing them, or especially answering them. very rude and not afraid to show it.
She is like most theoretical types: socially uneasy. It shows in her prickly personality and poor teaching style. She can be downright unpleasant during office hours. She should be doing research, not teaching material that obviously bores her. For the record, I worked moderately hard and got an A+.
Well structured lectures; but extremely boring/by the book. Complains of a headache most classes. Very opinionated (sometimes wrong). Doesn't leave any material up for debate. Exams for phil 100 were written in class (not open book). Marked harshly on grammar/clarity. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
For a class that involves discussions, she's quick to shoot down any that she doesn't agree with. Her notes are scattered across the board and extremely hard to follow. Tests are seemingly easy, but she marks hard if what you're saying isn't a complete regurgitation of her notes. Check your individuality at the door.
I have had sandy for Phil 102 and phil210. After phil102 I was scared to take another class with her, but phil210 was my favourite class of that semester. As long as you don't ever miss class and do all the homework you can easily do very well. And ask questions when you don't understand. She wants you to succeed!
I would not recommend taking any classes with her. Her notes are scattered and hard to follow, she often is unsure of herself and she doesnt like being asked questions and always shoots them down. it seems she relies on the text to teach you and then she just goes over questions as opposed to her actually teaching you anything.
Notes are very scattered and hard to understand but she makes the tests really easy. You can't miss any classes if you want to do well in her courses. She often goes way off topic and doesn't respect other people's opinions so it's hard to participate in class discussions.
Very friendly, I'd take a course with her again.
I loved this class. Attendence was definitely key in doing well, but that wasn't really problem because I enjoyed going so much. Sandy is kind, knowledgable, approachable and, despite what some other comments say, I found her very open to questions. I agree that her notes are a bit scattered, but they contain EVERYTHING you need for the tests. A+
Sandy is informed and knowledgable. She has a keen interest in the subject and encourages discussion during seminar. Attendance is key to getting a good mark in this class. I thoroughly enjoyed Sandy's lectures!
Sandy is rude and seems to personally enjoy embarrassing students publicly. If you had any interest in philosophy prior to attending, it is surely lost now. Do not take this class.
Sandy is rude, stubborn and doesn't seem to understand the meaning if teacher vs "assistant". She attempts to belittle students, however, her limited frame of logic fails to do so. Do not take her class if you want to have any understanding of "logic" at an academic standard (of which she seems to lack, social skills and all).
Probably the worst teacher I've ever had. Although she asks for opinions and thoughts, she only wants to hear her own opinion stated back to her. Belittles students and makes class pretty awful. I would definitely not recommend this teacher. With another teacher, this course could have been interesting.
Her lectures are scattered and the notes she writes are almost always useless. Lectures are mostly not worth attending, but seminars are mandatory for participation marks. She has very strong views and considers alternative views to be wrong. Sometimes rude to students. Interesting course pack, good content. Fairly easy, light workload.
save yourself the trouble and drop this any class with her teaching. She is a horrible teacher, is rude to her students, and gives students no test/ exam prep. She said once in class "I'm here to guide students not hold your hand" in the most sarcastic tone. But the fact is, she doesn't do ANYTHING.
She is a nice person and is definitely knowledgeable on the subject. However, she is not enjoyable to have as a professor. She does not facilitate discussion well. She is adamant about her points of view and refuses to discuss other points of view. I've had 3 other philosophy profs and the discussions in those classes were awesome and eye-opening.
Easy A. Shut up and do the work. Yes, Sandy is socially awkward. Yes, when a student is behaving rudely she will brazenly call him or her out for it. Take the class anyway. This is logic, personality is second to what you will learn about the act of thinking and arguing. Even if Sandy is too busy minding the children the text is decent. Easy A.
Easy A+. Learned everything I needed to know from the textbook, and not from the lectures- though you do need to attend at least one day a week to submit homework. Only rude to students when they were rude to her- I thoroughly appreciated her stance on disrespectful behaviour. A very nice, and intelligence woman, if you give her the time of day.
Sandy is a good teacher. She teaches you EXACTLY what she wants you to say on exams. She gives you exam prep (which gives you an easy 20% of the exam). DO NOT be late. She hates it and will call you out. DO NOT offer your own answers. She will call you out. Otherwise, just shut up, listen, and she's a good prof.
I really enjoyed Sandy's class, she always made the material fun and easy to understand. She brings real examples into the classroom to help illustrate the points of study. Students complained that she wasn't open minded but it's a history type class & the ideas of the philosophers are not up for debate. She's a hard marker but it's worth the work
Taking a class with Sandy is awful. Her lectures are boring. Her notes are impossible to follow. She basically writes anything that pops into her head. She has had no structure or plan for any lectures or the term in general. She often makes several mistakes during lectures and has no system of keeping track of your work or attendance. Very rude.
Sandy has got to be the most horrible teacher I've ever had, hated going to her class. Not only didn't she have to disagree with other students in discussions (all the time) she was so rude about it. Completely unapproachable, lacked the skills to be a successful instructor.
Sandy has a lot of respect for what she's teaching, and justly expects her students to as well. If you approach her class with humility, it will take you far. Sandy gives gems "between the lines" for the careful eye, has great taste in material, and is generous and attentive if you visit her during office hours with any queries. Favourite teacher.
Sandy's helpfulness is highly dependent on her mood. If she is in a good mood (rarely), she will offer assistance. If she is not, she will make you find the answer yourself. If she does help you, note that her patience does NOT last long. Attend seminars, or you'll lose marks. And write fast, her slides go by very fast.
Great instructor, extremely articulate and willing to assist students. can become frustrated if students misconstrue a concept and then try to argue their false understanding based on a lack of comprehension. Was very impressed by the thought and consideration she displayed in her use of language and the clarity with which she conveyed her ideas.
do not take this class. Notes are scattered and not worth taking. Does not facilitate discussion in mandatory seminars instead sits and lets everyone else sit in silence - does not provide discussion questions. Will not tell you what you need to do to improve in the class and is very rude when asked. does not follow syllabus has no grading rubric.
Belittles you, insults people, will not answer questions, honestly the worst teacher I have ever had in my three years at camosun this is truly a horrible teacher. if you ask a questions she just will answer with " of corse you wouldn't understand this would you" or if you ask for help after class she will tell you to drop out of the class.
I found Sandy to be rude to some students when they voiced their opinions. She even got mad at a student one time for asking a completely legitimate question and said he had made her lose focus in her lecture. Why would you open the floor to questions if you don't welcome them?
Class was based solely on reading the text. If you don't read the text you won't pass. Don't ask for help because its not likely you will get it.. Unless she is in a good mood, which is rare. Always had higher priorities in personal life that she preferred to discuss instead of what the class focus was.
She was very rude to students in class and would not listen to any opinion that differed from hers. Her notes were confusing and she skipped through her slides very quickly. Do not ask her for help after class because she will not give any. Avoid her if at all possible.
Sandy is a truly awful teacher. She's very rude to students, socially awkward, and has a sadly close-minded attitude. Don't offer your own opinion: she'll deduct marks. She only wants to hear her own insular, narrow-minded ideas parroted back at her. She has low reading comprehension when grading, and gives low marks because she can't understand.
I feel like I took Sandy Bannikoff 101 instead of a philosophy course... The whole syllabus was just her telling us HER own view of various topics and then shutting down any conversation that challenged her. I wish I'd picked a different teacher. If you want to learn all about Sandy's closeminded view of the world, take this class. Otherwise: AVOID
Don't bother asking any questions since they will simply be answered with a look and a degrading remark. However, if you decide to ask you better not take notes on that question or else you will be publicly shamed for "not paying attention". Would highly not reccomemd any of her classes to anyone.
Avoid this class. Sandy is condescending and rude. Will disagree with any original opinion that you have if it does not mirror hers. Very unhelpful and if you inquire about what you need to do to improve she will cut you down instead of answering. does not lead discussion in 100 level seminar where many have never taken phil/done a seminar before.
Most disrespectful professor I have had by far, extremely rude. The only way to pass the course is to read the text, as following her lectures is very hard.
I don't know why she is graded so hard from other students, I haven't found this to be the case in my class. the seminars are open for discussion, so be prepared to talk, pay attention to lectures as this is a guideline of what is needed on your essays
Quite condescending at times .She will often put down a student for voicing an opinion that differs from hers.
Incredibly rude when someone asks a question. Poor explanations in lecture leaving you dependent on the text for guidance.
Terrible teacher. Condescending and offensively rude to students, does not offer help, but puts students down for asking questions. She makes mistakes in class as if she doesn't know the material. Her lectures are unclear and I heavily rely on the textbook for clarification. I wouldn't recommend her and will not take another philosophy class.
Lectures were unclear but this is philosophy so I expected to have to do some thinking for myself. we started with 30 ppl in the class and now we're lucky is 10 people show up. Not a great first impression of philosophy.
Read your textbook. Go to class. Sandy is socially awkward, and may come off as insincere. Logic is like math, if you get it wrong, she will mark it wrong. Profs aren't meant to spoon feed you through school, and Sandy's class is an eye opener to this. Word your questions appropriately, or she probably won't understand what you are asking.
No take homework for this class, you do it all in seminars. Your grade is based off class homework and Tests. No half marks, read the questions I went from 98% to 85% because I didn't write a "letter" beside an answer (which was implied with my written answer), most teachers would have given the student the marks. Practice and read the text book.
Sandy is a kind and patient instructor. Not what you would expect for a philosophy course. Weighted heavily on tests, first exam worth 40%, but she spends the extra time to make sure her students understand the content. Has a great sense of humour and makes the course enjoyable.
Great prof and very approachable, as long as she feels respected. Very knowledgable and pushes students to think during seminars. All in all great class and prof!
She means well but I found her attitudes and knowledge towards the class awful. A majority of the class was spent talking about Donald Trump and her lessons were unclear. The content of this class is great but the class was made to be unenjoyably because of the lack of care to the subject provided by the Prof.
She is the least logical teacher I had and heard of in my life. Do not waste your time taking this class. Although it is very easy, she takes advantage on that to mistreat students.
terrible.
Rude to students and acts like a child. Seminars are pointless but you have to attend if you want to get the homework assignment. Not very clear at explaining things. Try to stay on her good side.
Seminars are her ranting about Trump for 40min, and then the last 15min you get to do an assignment in class which is difficult because her lectures are the most scatterbrain, unorganized mess of a lesson. I don't know how she is still teaching here actually. She's also very, very rude. Also no laptops in her class basically.
Overall, I found her lectures to be very dry, overly repetitive with little actual change in method, and there was not much opportunity for assistance. Not to mention the seminars, where if you have a different opinion than the one being presented, you are subject to scrutiny immediately with no room for discussion. Terrible experience.
Her lectures are totally all over the place (literally, both whiteboards are usually completely covered in arrows and squiggles), but if you engage with her, and with the subject, you'll get on fine. She can be childish, but generally only in response to other childishness; if you're cool, she's cool.
She "teaches" the subject matter but more/less writes it on the whiteboard and talks to herself while doing it and if you can't follow along then "too bad". The worst thing is her constant meandering and ranting about her political opinions which have NOTHING to do with the class, during the MANDATORY hour-long lecture segment. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
Very poor class experience. Partisan politics took precedent over the subject matter of Phil 110. Lectures are not engaging as they consist of a copy paste style regurgitation of the course pack onto the whiteboard. Seminar consists of a 40 minute political slide show with 10 minutes at the end to complete the assignment. Will not take again.
Just terrible
AVOID HER CLASS AT ALL COST!!! one of the worse profs at camosun, she is all over the place and has ZERO clue what she is taking about. Never puts notes up just squiggles all over a white board, she can never understand simple questions and can be quite rude and childish to students, honestly avoid her and any of her classes at all cost
It's only day 3 of online class with her and I'm already confused. Her videos she makes for her lectures are all over the place! She jumps from talking about what she's teaching to things that are irrelevant to the class (like Trump and Twitter). Instructions are not clear. Do NOT recommend!
Would not take her class ever again, since the start of this class I've been teaching myself the material. It is not fair at all, I asked for extra help or for more lectures and she replied with it is your job to learn it? She's very bad at marking anything on time which is disappointing, she does not make sense and talks about irrelevant things.
I quickly realized that asking questions or seeking clarification with this professor is a waste of time. She is generally unhelpful and short with answers. For a philosophy professor, she is surprisingly assured of her own correctness on every subject, and does not like to delve deep into her own material.
Sandy posts short lectures that doesn't really cover anything she tests. I am teaching myself everything in this class through reading the textbook. She makes chapter quizzes and they often don't test what is taught in the required textbook! She cares more about class discussion than anything else. These discussions are completely irrelevant!
I took the Phil film class during covid times and the lectures were pretty short, unclear and didnt seem to really focus on philosophy. She didnt seem to know how to set her class up online and did not ever keep the due date. Her biggest focus is probably the discussions which I didnt really find relevant although interesting.
Do you want to watch someones brain melt in front of you? Good! Try to keep your eyes open as this professor says maybe one or two sentences, then stares at the floor or out in to space for 5-10 minutes for lectures. She demands you take notes, but the whiteboard is scattered with independent words with spiderwebs of lines connecting them.
She is very kind and takes care of her students. She helps with the difficulties and reply within few hours.
Every week we would read a chapter in the text and watch a 30 minute "lecture" video. She would touch on the text subject for 5-10 minutes and then immediately talk about recent news articles and show movie clips. In my experience this is a very self taught class. Weekly quizzes were only 5-8 questions and 3 tests no final was the saving grace.
DONT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH THIS PROF. She is incredibly under educated and doesn't know her head from her a**. Only way to pass this class is to teach yourself with the textbook. How is it legal that we have to pay for her to teach us when all she did was talk about politics and TRUMP??. I swear trump is her ex because she wont shut up about the guy.
It is a Canadian Phil course but for some reason she wont stop talking about American politics. Id expect this kind of material in an intro to american politics or something. We get it sandy, for the 9999 time: you dont like trump. take phil with anyone else.
Sandy is pleasant, but her teaching is all over the place. There is almost 0 course structure and her lectures are random and unplanned. She insists that you participate in class discussions, and if you don't look particularly engaged or intrigued, she will corner you and demand to know why. She's also an extremely difficult marker.
Not sure if this teacher has tourettes or not, but she just writes random words all over the board with no context. If you wanna hate your life and hate school this is the class for you!!! But also the slightest cough of sign of sickness you better watch out before she evicts you from class. And also no photos allowed on the board.
She has no idea what she's saying every lecture. she doesn't explain anything properly and she's obsessed with politics. If possible DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH SANDY. she's super boring and passive aggressive.
Lectures are random and disorganized. She gets upset when someone has a genuine question. She also never responds to emails
Every night I get down on my hands and knees to pray on Sandy Bannikoff's downfall. May no other student suffer the trials and tribulations I faced at the hands of this evil evil lady A class with Sandy will be your 13th reason. Not only that. It will become reasons 1 through 13. Don't take it. Save yourself and your dignity. You've been warned.
Her teaching style was inaccessible and inappropriate, she refused to upload grades on D2L and would embarrass her students in front of the class for missing readings or eating. The course content was very ambiguous and myself and others had a very hard time following along with her.
TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP she loves her Trump I learned more about Trump than I did philosophy from her. Just read the book and do some of the book quizzes. DO NOT TAKE FOR EXTRA CREDIT. As I write this she is still talking about Trump.
I am not one to write reviews usually but y'all should be warned about this so called teacher. She can't teach, can't get through a sentence without Trump and is so rude in front of the class. Heaven forbid you do notes on a computer and look down for a sec she lays he witch nails into you. The biggest philosophical question today is how I lived?
Her "lectures" consist of her drawing incoherent, illegible concepts on the board with a scary amount of arrows and circles while taking breaks to stare blankly at the class. There was absolutely nothing posted on D2L except heads up if lecture was cancelled, no grades, no feedback, even if you asked for a grade she seemed to be confused?
I missed a day cause I had COVID but she wanted the homework handed in in person which resulted in me failing even though I emailed it to her but that's unacceptable because class is mandatory. Why? Because he god awful board scribble sessions are "crucial" to success you really must see. WORST CLASS EVER and its mandatory for crim students :(
AWFUL! never before have I had such a difficult time with a professor. Lectures are random scribbles on the board, discusses american poltics more than the actual course content. Sandy is passive agressive and stares into space often. I hate that this course is a requirement for my program because it was a complete waste of money and time. AVOID.
Lectures are misleading at times, but If u write terms bolded in the textbook then write the definitions from the glossary then study from that. She will love u if u participate and ask questions & she is not that bad as people say. It's an easy A if u put in the work. (Write ur argument before seminar)
If you hate trump then this is the class for you. came her to learn about philosophy and ended up being subject to pointless rants about trump. do not recommend
I really like her! Her writing on the board is all over the place, so I just follow along with her words and take my own notes. I think that she's quirky and funny, which makes deep subjects like philosophy more fun! If she were boring then I'm afraid I'd fall asleep. If you think you'd enjoy philosophy you should take her class!
all she talks about is trump. she will stare blankly as the board for like 5 minuets and go off tangent about trump for half the lecture. her awkwardness used to be cute but its becoming an issue the notes have all sorts of arrows pointing everywhere making it extremely difficult to follow. I hate her with a passion
The class was a bit of a mixed bag - the lectures could be disorganized, but the textbook and study tools like Unstuckstudy helped me stay on track. Overall, it's a challenging course, but doable if you put in the work.
An inhuman teacher who acts like we're all children and everyone's below her. disrespects her students and does not make exceptions for anyone at anytime no matter how dire or extreme the situation is. doesn't talk about anything relevant to the class and is the rudest “teacher” i have ever met if you can ever call her that.
Good luck learning anything in the lectures. All she will talk about is Trump. For her note taking, its terrible, she has arrows point in every direction and she will relate a topic in which something that is never been once discusses confusing as hell good luck if you take her class and I wish you the best
Sandy is a passive aggressive person. I pray that I will pass this class(that is my bare minimum) because she is very petty. Do one thing like taking notes on your computer or something, and she will make you regret it in every way possible. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! This is college, not highschool. She thinks we are below her.
Sandy Bannikoff is an incredibly passive aggressive professor with an incredibly stubborn and unwavering attitude. She can be incredibly condescending and will respond very poorly to any criticism or questioning of her teaching methodology.
Sandy shows the worst professionalism of any professor I've had to date. Her lectures are sprawling and off-topic from the tested material (American politics?), she gets angry if you have to miss ONE lecture ("I've heard of enough grandmothers dying"), and argues with students mid-class if they counter her on anything. don't even know how i passed.
please for the love of everything good in the world, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!!!! her lectures are terrible and confusing!!! she will ask questions on test that are different from what she "taught"! she will talk about trump ALOT even when it has nothing to do with the course!!! you have been warned...
I'm not sure why sandy has such a low rating? I've had her in my PHIL 100 class first semester and purposely chose her for PHIL102 this semester. She is knowledgeable in the topics she teaches and creates a very relaxed environment in her class. No large assignments / tests. Just show up and do the work and she will recognize your effort
Amazing professor and equally as lovely of a person! She is so knowledgeable about philosophy and seems passionate about it. Like any good teacher, she expects participation and attendance in class, if you do not show up and put in effort then do not expect her to be okay with that. She is really trying to make it a good class for all.
Not sure how she got this job. To know philosophy is one thing (which I'm sure she doesn't), but she has no confidence in actually teaching it. She's also a total nut. Like she's off in her own little world. Also she makes you do these self-quizzes which she NEVER mentioned were for marks.
Lectures do not follow a clear syllabus. She takes a very condescending tone when asked any questions. Does not want to hear any students opinion if it differs from her own viewpoints. Very political and socially opinionated. Does not listen or help students in lecture. I would recommend NEVER taking a class with her. Worst prof I have ever had.
Absolutely a nightmare. Sandy does not have a single reasonable bone in her body. The most unprofessional and rude professor I have ever had. Goes on tangents about American politics and does not actually teach any material that is one her exams. Any student taking notes on and I pad or a computer will be criticized/shamed publically
Sandy means well but so out to lunch, me and some peers were wondering if she maybe smoked a joint before coming to class thats how out to lunch she is. Avoid this prof.
the worst prof I have ever had she keeps forgetting stuff and she is boring
aint nobody in the class likes her she unprofessional and boring the PHILL is cool and interesting but she ruins it
Sandy was an incredible teacher for a brand new student of philosophy. I found her lessons interesting and she would go out of the way to make sure you understood ideas in your own time. Wonderful lady. Thoroughly enjoyable class and incredibly patient and kind teacher
I really enjoyed taking her class.
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! You will not learn philosophy you will "learn" about Donald Trump... goes off on students for using laptops but her writing / explanations make 0 sense. Take the class with Philip instead, he is great and actually teaches you!!
Very emotionally volatile! Instructor can be very rude and unprofessional with students. Especially students who ask questions or converse with her. Singles people out for using their computers to do work or take notes. Avoid if possible. Also extremely boring, and non interactive lectures.
Avoid this professer if necessary. exams are impossible because she never tells you and never gives a study guide. show up everyday or she will give you the cold shoulder. her notes are so confusing i went into that class not knowing anything about phil and came out the same.
Her lecture style is very confusing, if anything at all. I found her pretty nice though overall and passionate, just looses her train of thought a lot. Did I really learn any philosophy, no, but I watched some interesting movies I wouldn't have otherwise and good class if you wanna sit around and have discussions with students and her.
it might seem to some that her lectures are all over the place but if you take notes on what she says and organize them later on your own time it's actually a great way to study and makes it's easier to remember. i'm not sure why some reviews say exams are hard, they weren't. Even if you don't talk much, showing attentive listening goes a long way.
