Great Class GET HER!
Best teacher I've had at SDSU to date. Gets students interested. Down to earth.
Great teacher very willing to help one on one. Excited about teaching.
Cool but doesnt prepare you for her grading stylr
awesome teacher, really hard essay grader, only 2 essays tho! lots of boring hw
awesome teacher!!!! really gets you excited about writing. does lots of explain
she is a very nice teacher, gets you interested in subject. essays are not too hard and she helps a lot
The class was small and there should be more teachers like her. She drives an old school impala, a road bike, and has some nice legs. Oh did I mention she's also cool and down to earth? I almost wanted more essays just to see her in office hours.
Great teacher.
one of the best instructors i've ever had. class is fun and goes by really quick with her teaching style. very enlightening, definitely recommended.
This class was a joke. So much repetitive, boring homework that doesn't challenge you to write well. The essays are treated like they were in high school.. Peer reviewing is not for universities.. Drafts are not for universities. I did not learn anything new about writing by being in this class.
i couldnt hear anything after i walked out of class each day cause everyday should would beat her liberal bs drum and finally i just tuned her out, if your even somewhat of a moderate dont say a word that shows ur not a pinko commy capitalist hater. hard grader hw counts and attendence isnt that important, her vocab screws everyone.
Awesome class! you'll learn all about critical thinking of the Vietnam war, and write 4 papers total in the class. she's very passionate about the topics, and will keep your interest during class discussions. she's a hard grader, but you will become a better writer. readings aren't hard at all. take RWS w/ this teacher. she's great & really funny!
She owns.
she is so nice. e-mail your paper to her and she will take the time to give you feed back on your rough draft. class lecture is easy but she grades hard. dosnt give you any comments on paper unless you beg for it. so sweet. go to class, extra points when half the class is missing
A cool class, she focusses on one book about television and media the whole semester. It's kind of interesting, but it seemed better than other people RWS 100 class.
Can't tell you anything but TAKE IT! It is easy, fun,and you learn alotIf all teachers were like her,i think everyone would attend school. If you dont miss any of her few assg. ur grade is garanteed a B as the worst grade in the class.Dont lagg off though, make sure to do all she asks for(which is simple cool stuff)never thought ENG could be this FU
This class is pretty easy and Sandy is chill. There is homework almost every night which I thought, at first, was lame. But, it actually helped me stay on track the whole semester. She is fun, entertaining and helpful. One of the better teachers i've had.
RWS is not the world. Critical grader, Homework 90% of the time.
she's great. she is fun and exciting and makes the class really interesting.
great teacher
really interesting.essays are on topics that you find interesting. homework alot. 3 main essays, one of wish is the final, one digital project. all in all amazing teacher, really into what shes teaching
she's an awesome teacher. she will actually teach u and u will walk away feeling knowledged. if you try in her class she'll definitly give you the grade.
I enjoyed having Sandy as a professor. She made the class interesting and her group projects were fun. I'd say my least favorite part was doing vocabulary, but I aced the quizzes she'd give. She's very chill - I would definitely recommend her.
Extremely helpful. Go to her office hours. Will help you in any way she can. Easy to understand the material.
Professor Fimbres is one of the best professors I had so far at state. Only 3 essays of which one is the final and a digital project. Critical grader! I got a B so I recommend taking her.
Sandy is definitely one of the coolest and knowledgeable teachers I've had. She truly knows her stuff. 3 essays, including a cool digital project, a few quizzes here and there and randomly gives points for going to class. In addition, she's got a real pretty face and nice set of legs! Definitely take her class!!
She's pretty chill. She's not intimidating and the way she talks makes you want to listen. Her papers are kind of long (5-6) pages, but if you put effort into it, you'll get a decent grade. Her media project is cool too and a good break from writing another essay and she let us do our final essay at home and just turn it in on the day so that helpe
love sandy.her essays on interestin topics and research required is actually fun theres kinda a lot of busywork but assignments are fun like watching a talk show her essays are long but she really helps u through it you should definitely take her, especially if u have had trouble writing essays before
love her!! shes very helpful and essay topics are very interesting. kinda a lot of busy work so keep up in class. she offers random extra credit. shes one of the best english teachers ive ever had and i highly reccommend her
she is totally helpful if asked. i unfortunately was too high too go to class often during the semester. though attendance isn't mandatory, there are usually 15-20 pt. quizzes in class everyday. because of this i did quite poorly in the class. i plan on doing course forgiveness with her again. 3 essays and you revise your first essay for the final.
She is a great teacher. There are four essays but she walks you through ever step of the first one (and the hardest one). She is very nice and more then willing to help you if you ask. Overall one of the best teacher that I have ever had. Take her if you can!!!
Shes a great teacher. Very funny, easy to talk to, and as long as you attend every class, do the homework, and get like C average on essays (which she does help immensely with) you'll have a solid B. Attending class is vital, sometimes she'll give out points just for showing up. Oh and she grew up with the band Slightly Stoopid, so take her class.
Well she is a fun teacher wacky but fun. Her ways of grading are weird because she is every where when it gets to one topic. Its sometimes hard to understand why you got a certain grade when your essay was just as good as the other ones. Site your works and make sure you do very well on your essay because carries to how she grades. THE OTHERS!!!
Focuses basically the whole semester on the Vietnam Conflict and the different views on it. She works mostly out of the Course Readers. Did 4 or 5 discussion board activities, and has a lot of busy work. Hard grader unless you are in with her. Which basically means you totally agree that the United States government is totally messed up for g
REALLY COOL TEACHER! although this class is a lot of work (homework) if you want to pass dont ever miss a single class trust me I missed one class and lost 20 points
overall sandy is a cool person. she is very funny and "wild" but she gives way too much hw.count on having hw due for everyclass. Sometimes she just gives points if you are in class so its better if you dont miss. The thing that ticked me off the most is that the entire class was focused on vietnam and for some reason i never got an A onan essay
Sandy was an AWESOME Professor. She does give a lot of home work, A LOT OF BUSY WORK! We used our readers just about every day. There were like 4 or 5 papers, but she walks you through each one. She is willing to help you anytime. She is really interesting, and keeps you entertained. Just don't fall asleep in class, she will call you out on it.
fun teacher, lets you chose what you want to write essays on. tons of homework, and quizes but very helpful.
Sandy is a chill, knowledgeable and ca teacher. Tough grader, but i feel like ive learned more about writing in her class than i learned all throughout high school. the vocab is kind of annoying but it really helps you write better papers when you're forced to use good vocabulary that you wouldn't normally use. highly recommend her. and shes haat t
Fimbres is cool. Three easy essays and one digital project. The essays kind of relate to each other so they get pretty easy. Yes, expect homework (almost) every night but they are easy to BS. Drafts help with your writing so that you don't procrastinate. Go to her office hours because she'll tell you what to fix. Go to class cause she gives points.
Sandy is a cool professor, but when it comes to grading its really strict, you have to go to class everyday. dont take her if you are a person that misses classes. there are three essays due and on digital project. her class is fun but there are the boring days. she gives a lot of busy work. expect homework everyday.
hands down best teacher ive ever had...challenges her students but she's way chill
Such a chill teacher. Go to class 'cause there's most likely a quiz (they're easy though). You get prizes when you get a perfect score. 3 essays and 1 digital project (good break from writing). Not hard because everything's pretty much discussed in class. You just have to write in your own words. Go to office hours for help. You do a lot of vocab.
she made the overall topic of the class very interseting. usually gives b's. but an a in not impossible
Great teacher!!! Take her! She is very helpful, explains things clearly and is always there when needed.
Attend every class to take the reading quizzes. Awesome teacher, grades fairly. My essay writing has definitely improved.
She is the BEST teacher EVER!! Her class is really interesting and extremely fun! She is also very nice! :) I had her for both rws 100 and rws 200, I got a A- in the first class and an A+ in the last! MUST TAKE HER!!!!! She is GREAT!!
She is phenomenal! Course is fun, interesting, and definitely managable. If you ever need anything she is more than willing to help. Highly recommend. Be sure to keep up with reading and assignments, but she is very understanding and the reading is easy to do because it is usually pretty intriging anyway. Can't stress enough how great she is!
Fimbres is a very dedicated and knowledgeable professor, you'll learn a lot by taking her class and your writing skills will improve by far.Readings, quizes and essay aren't hard, just keep up and dont procrastinate, a lot of work but it's easy!Attend class cus there's quizes, but they are easy and you get prizes for good grades. Gives extra credit
By far the best English teacher i have had since high school. Chill...but essays must be taken seriously and with effort to receive a desired grade. Reader is a must and its content makes up about 90% of work. Attendance will make a difference with pop quizzes which will be added together with the rest of your points. Funny and interesting mustake
She is chill. Essays must be taken seriously but she is clear in her prompts and what she wants to see, also very helpful in class and in office hours. Two out of class essays and two in-class timed essays. I would recommend her!
Did not enjoy this class. Had to walk to a building that was not even part of the main campus. There were so many students in the class and too much talking during lectures by students as well as the A/C did not work. The room was either hot or cold, totally annoying.
She is a great teacher with a fun personality. After getting an 8 on the WPA exam I dreaded the fact that I had to take RWS305, but then she made it a really enjoyable experience. Just know that you will have to work hard for your grade.
I really enjoyed her class during the summer because she had a fun teaching style and personality! She's very knowledgeable and expects every student to take each writing assignment seriously. We had plenty of in-class discussions to make the class interesting. She's one of my favorite professors at state (I don't have many).
She makes it hard for your to miss class because there is either something to turn in or a reading quiz. Reading quizzes are very easy and just used for attendance points. There is a lot of pointless HW, also for attendance purposes and 4 or 5 short papers. Her class is never dull so showing up isn't difficult. Take her and you won't regret it.
Best English professor at SDSU. Go to class and do ALL of the course work assigned (which is very minimal, not a lot of reading) and you will get a B+ easy. Highly recommend her!
Honestly one of the best teachers at SDSU. She inspired me to be a better writer, and I am now because of her. She's funny, entertaining, and very knowledgeable in the subject. A lot of writing assignments and in-class quizzes (not hard if you do the short readings) so it's best to not miss many classes. Highly recommend her if you have the choice
Prf. Fimbres is AMAZING! She is funny, down to earth and very knowledgeable. I enjoyed her class very much because she allowed us to write creative pieces which strengthened my overall writing capabilities. There's a few quiz's that go along with the reading.Overall, delivers a great atmosphere and makes class super FUN :)
Great teacher. Highly recommended! Vocab tests almost daily, but if you do your vocab then you'll be fine. Easy A if you show up to class everyday and take her advice when you write your essays. Always willing to help and she is funny as well!
Genuinely wants to make you a better writer. It is refreshing to know there are still professors out there who genuinely care about their students. She is articulate, eloquent and passionate(sometimes to the point of cussing). Down to earth and easy to listen to. Go to class, do the work, make changes based on her lectures and you will get an A
She is one of the best english teachers I have ever had. Not only did she help me improve my writing her lectures held my attention and she was funny and nice. I would highly recommend her! The class was good as well, it was centered around the Vietnam War if you enjoy history like me you should take this class!
By far the most interesting English professor I have ever had. I hate writing but her class is so fun and worth getting up at for 10am class on summer.
She's nice and helpful. Subject is boring and she tries to make it fun. Didnt really learn much from this class and still got an A-. Dont need book and buying grammar book for the quizzes are pointless.
Ugh just prepare to have your ear talked off. She will literally speak for the entire class period and then repeat herself via writing on blackboard. Class is useless. She is super easy though so take her.
Professor Fimbres really is a wonderful teacher. She made our class interesting by taking topics we would be more interested in, television and magazines, for us to analyze. She corrects the entire 1st paper, and your 2nd assignment is to revise it which allows you to see your mistakes and is a great learning process. Not easy, but a great class!
Super lovely and chill teacher. She made the class entertaining and enjoyable. There were 4 essays. No exams besides an easy final, but there are daily quizzes on vocab and some reading. She is super approachable and will help you on your essays!! Glad I took the class- she helped me become a better writer! You should definitely take her!
Professor Fimbres was really nice and funny. She tends to talk a lot so class would sometimes get boring but the material is more interesting than a lot of the other RWS 100 classes. She is very helpful with the 4 essays and is a pretty easy grader. I would take her again!
While other classes write resumes and personal statements, we have to write about our feelings and ideas. And when I say our feelings and ideas I mean her ideas bc if you write your own you will not do well. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Homework everyday and a bunch of useless readings
She is/has been on the panel for WPA grading, therefore you can expect that she'll have high expectations. Not the easiest grader, but you do learn how to write better in her class. To characterize her: hippie, down-to-earth, and funny. Class is pretty much mandatory due to limited amounts of points&in-class assignments everyday. Not the worst prof
Fimbres is AWESOME. First couple weeks you'll find her interesting. Then you'll hate her because you're not getting the grades you wanted, but open your eyes and your grades will change. Then you will LOVE her because you will realized she is one of the only teachers who have ever truly improved you writing skills. Take her.
She always joked around with the class and a very nice lady. She tells you exactly how to write each of the three essays for the semester. There are also occasional vocab/comprehension quizzes, but they are not that bad. As long as you follow her instructions, then it is an easy A.
Fimbres is one of my favorite teachers! She is really cool and fun in class. She explains what we have to do very well too.
Fimbres is super chill and funny. She expects you to get better after every essay but is only fair because she practically tells you what to write. 3/4 essays and classes are just busy work but helpful. recommended.
Best teacher I have ever had nobody compares to her
She is different from the rest of the RWS teachers. She lets you write freely but gives you structure so it isn't too overwhelming. Loved her! Take her!
Absolutely LOVE Fimbres! Had her for RWS100 in the fall and crashed her RWS200 this spring. I hated writing and thought I sucked at it, but her class helped me improve so much. She's very clear about what she wants in her essays & assigns the essays by pieces. There is homework everyday but it's perfectly doable. Make sure you have good attendance!
Super nice and funny lady. She talks a LOT, but what she talks about is really helpful. She encourages you to write the best you can. Papers were interesting and the topics were varied. Not really a difficult class at all. Try not to miss the peer-editing classes, you'll have to make up for it on your own so it's easier to just get it done in class
Definitely take Professor Fimbres for RWS305. The essays will be easy if you follow the prompts. Besides having your class mates grade your essay, have Professor Fimbres look over it as well. She offers a lot of her time to help students out. Your writing skills will definitely improve after her class.
hard grader, homework every single day usually reading and writing. essay topics and very uninteresting and essay instructions are very confusing. make sure you download her online documents right away because they expire. also she will make u share your essay with the class so be prepared.
do you work, be on time and you'll be A ok
She does what she can to help students succeed. In fact, we had a project where we wrote a letter of interest (for graduate schools and whatnot) and she gave one-on-one recommendations on doing the assignment. There are some homework such as short readings (and taking a quiz on it next time) and about 4 papers with drafts. She's the best for RWS.
Professor Fimbres-Allen has got to be the best writing professor out there. She is EXTREMELY knowledgeable. She's also really cool and loves to have open dialogue during class. She isn't rigid or expects the impossible. She is caring, informative, and fair. If you show up to class, you will do great. If you skip- you will fail. Pay attention!
Fimbres is so funny and easy going- I totally get a hippy vibe from her :) but she's also VERY knowledgeable and gives amazing feedback. If you want to grow as a writer.. take her! Show up. Participate. Do the little assignments, they add up, and you'll pass. She's very understanding, easy to talk to and genuinely cares about all her students.
Honestly one of the realist teachers I have ever taken you will actually learn a lot in her class she will completely destroy your paper with corrections but it will only help you become a better writer highly recommend taking Professor Fimbres
Professor Fimbres is AMAZING. She is a great professor who is chill and fun to talk to but also gets down to business. She offers lots of great advice on papers and gives you plenty of opportunities to get a good grade in her class. Not necessarily easy but definitely not difficult if you do your work. I would take her again in a heartbeat!
You actually become a better writer under her instructing Pr. Fimbres takes the time to thoroughly show you what you need to do better Im glade I took her RWS 280 class definitely recommend it!
Very easy if you don't miss any classes because she gives points for every class, whether it's for a hw assignment, peer reviews, participation, or turning in a paper... something is always happening. SHE TALKS A LOT and pretty quick often repeating herself. Super sweet and is always willing to help her students during her office hours.
She is very unorganized, cancels class often. There are four papers, some assignments, going to class does not help but requires attendance. I would not take her class if you can help it.
Great teacher and positive, funny vibes.
She's a really great English teacher! Lectures can be boring at times but if you listen to her then your essays will write themselves. Also, GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS and she will tell you everything you need for your essay. Fair grader if you put the effort into it. Few vocab quizzes and group assignments. Really easy class.
Fimbres is nice enough but a terrible role model for 18 year olds. She has canceled 7-8 classes so far out of 34 class days. Total flake and yet grades on attendance and demands it. Like her alright, but ZERO RESPECT. Seems anyone can teach while we toss thousands of dollars at them. Really disturbs me. Lacking character. I want to be inspired.
Prof Fimbres really gets in touch with you which makes talking to her really easy. English teachers like a certain way of writing and if you make appointments she'll basically revise your whole essay for you so take advantage. Write down suggestions or points she makes during lecture since they're typically easy to incorporate into your essays
Dont take her. Just dont. Im in her class right now and I wish I took a different Professor. This class should be extremely easy but she makes it unnecessarily hard. Shes completely unorganized & unclear in her grading. Made the whole class re-do group project because no one met her standards. None of her assignments make sense. Save yourself.
Taking this class online this semester and it is literally the worst class I've ever taken. Professor has good intentions but is just SOOOO disorganized. Has no plan, gives no notice for assignments, constantly changes due dates and makes you redo assignments. Just seriously, take a different professor. Sweet lady and is trying, but just no.
She's a sweet professor who helped me throughout the sem, the only downside being she's really disorganized and would randomly put up a reading and a quiz to go with it in the middle of the week. Changed due dates a lot too which messes up with my schedule. Please take a different professor or wait until lockdown ends to take her
Very sweet person but she is the most unorganized professor I have ever experienced. She even missed the first couple days of class with no notice. Poor communication and would create assignments randomly and have them due within a couple days so I often missed assignments. Would frantically check her class 7 days a week and still managed to miss
Started out promising, but then it just spiraled downhill as the semester went on. No syllabus given, no deadlines given, she took months to UNFAIRLY grade assignments. She assigned ridiculous group projects with NO warning for their due date. Takes forever to respond to emails or does not reply at all. Turned in grades a DAY before they were due!
So as a previous review stated, you'll find yourself waiting until the day before grades are due to find your grade. What do you expect me to do with the feedback im given about my papers now three months after I turned them in?? I get online has been extremely difficult for a lot of professors, but this class was a mess.
Was looking forward to this class, really. But it was more of, "here are a bunch of docs to look over and quizzes to do, along with pre recorded zoom lectures". Everything felt rushed and disorganized. Sure I did alright but I wish the class made me feel committed
Fimbres is without a doubt the worst professor I've ever had. The lack of organization is mind boggling. She had no plan for this class. She might describe her teaching style like free-form jazz, but in reality it is more like an auditorium full of elementary school-aged children banging on trash cans and screaming. This class was pure chaos.
has unreasonable expectations given that she provides little to no information about what she wants from her students. even though she did provide docs about the projects, it was still super vague despite being 3-4 pages long. super unorganized, will change due dates often, and will NOT give any useful feedback ever.
Unorganized, unclear, no instructions, no communication... just, here are the syllabus and good luck. Sorry excuse for a writing class .
Good prof. Is a tough grader but it's outlined on the assignments what you need to do for full credit. Lots of assignments, mostly to help build your essays. Does zoom meetings for feedback and helps you write your essay(s). Discussions about your essay are in class so make so make sure you have it done. Overall, not a bad class or professor.
Professor Fimbres goes on these emotional rants about her essays and is usually a bit confusing with her essay topics. She writes all her essay topics herself so they will always be different but theyre always pretty confusing. The class is made up of 3 major essays and a bunch of other mini assignments that help easily put the essay together.
She is so unorganized and comes up with her lessons and assignments on the spot. There is no grading information or schedule on the syllabus. The criteria for how she grades assignments is really unclear despite how much she rights about the assignments.
messy
Prof. Fimbres is a solid professor who can truly help her students. Essays are graded pretty harshly but if you attend her office hours or meetings, she will tell you exactly what to write and you can get a good grade. Lots of assignments so if you fail an essay, you can easily bring up your grade.
although she is very unorganized, fimbres is a good teacher overall. she wants you to do well and gives a TON of feedback to help you. we only had 2 essays throughout the semester and did not have a final nor midterm. if you need to take rws200 take her and as long as you do the work you will be fine. she does ramble though during class so beware
Fimbres was good at giving feedback and wants us to improve, which I appreciated but I disliked how disorganized she was. She would spend 30 minutes rambling each class and we wouldn't even get to the task at hand. Do not miss class because sometimes there's in class assignments and you can easily fall behind or get your grade down.
Overall she is an okay professor and she is there if you need help, which you will because she is all over the place. This class is so unorganized and confusing. She is pretty contradictory when it comes to what she wants you to write, she takes forever to grade, and she is extremely nit-picky with her "feedback". Avoid this teacher if you can.
Very nice and energetic instructor, however her grading and rubrics for assignments are questionable. Her lectures are not relevant to what specifically we were supposed to write. She would often go off on tangents that are unrelated. There were very few assignments it was not difficult to pass the class but if you want an A you may struggle.
Ms. Fimbres is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She puts so much energy into her lectures/materials and truly cares about her students. She also moves pretty slow, but in a pace/manner where you can fully absorb the information. If you show up to class, put in the effort/time, and go to office hours, you can do really well in this class.
Professor Fimbres has very unclear guidelines on all of her assignments. She does not make her students write essays, yet grades the numerous 10-point assignments harshly and without explanation. Attendance is mandatory for this course. Her version of MLA formatting does not follow MLA proper guidelines. Do not take this class!
Unreasonable grader
No essays seems good for English but it's a trap as every other assignment is graded harshly with barely any reasoning. No rubric for big assignment makes it hard to succeed. She is the toughest grader I've ever had.
She means well for her students but at the beginning of the year she claimed that we would have little HW to do. However, she assigned the most I have had this semester. I had her 3x a week and had to turn in something each class. Getting an A is very doable but you'll need to stay on top of this class because you can fall behind quick.
Never stops talking, very unclear about what she wants in assignments, makes up random assignments due when you haven't talked about them in class or reviewed. Grades very hard and holds very high expectations. Lectures all over the place and she gets very easily distracted
Everyone was informed by Professor Fimbers during the first week that there would no essays required for this class, but it seemed too good to be true. It was the class I had the most work for this semester because we had assignments to turn in for every lecture. She later began to score our assignments, she was a tough grader.
Although this class does have a lot of homework, it is pretty easy. She gives clear instructions in class and lots of examples that are uploaded to canvas. As long as you show up to class, you will know exactly what to do to get a good grade.
This is definitely one of the easier English classes I've taken. She's a great professor, but sometimes a lot of things that she says may be confusing. A lot of the work feels like busy work, but it's better than writing 2 essays! Attendance isn't mandatory, but don't plan on missing because you could lose points from in class assignments.
During lectures she was all over the place. It was super unorganized and hard to follow. Whenever she sent feedback, it was very unclear what she wanted and would never specify what she meant. I definitely do not recommend
Never provided reasoning for grading and her lectures were unhelpful for the work given
Her lectures often got off topic and were generally unhelpful towards the work assigned. We were graded heavily for an art assignment. Yes, in a 200 level college class we had a heavily graded art assignment. Do not take her
She is not a bad person, she has gone through a lot to get where she is now, she talks a lot but shes not a hard teacher she just wants you to grasps the info and a lot of people never show up on fridays but i did and i always got extra points so its good for your grade. She is rlly chill and is funny just give her a chance
Don't take her if your easily embarrassed. She will read your essay and call out every single mistake you make in front of the entire class, and will just continue on and on making you look awful. Gives multiple assignments of homework a week, and is a super tough grader on essays. Take this online or with different teacher.
Lectures often get off topic and are very unorganized which makes them unhelpful for getting your questions answered about assignments due. The instructions that she leaves aren't clear for assignments as well as feedback she gives, it's confusing and she doesn't end up telling you what she really wants you to fix.
No asssd
Overall great class. She is funny and gives great feedback on essays. She makes time to meet before your essay is due so you can make corrections. There were three essays and they built off of one another but they were not impossible to do. As long as you go to class and pay attention you will do fine.
Would rate 4.5/5 - Summer first term - Daily assignments but they're easy (ex. giving peers feedback). Put in effort & you'll get an A. (+5) She's really sweet & cares a lot about students. She puts a LOT of effort into the class & can tell she cares about the subject. (-0.5) She's disorganized purely bc of the AMOUNT of information she gives.
definitely NOT an easy A
Professor Fimbres can be a bit disorganized, but the class isn't too difficult with some effort. Definitely use tools like Unstuck ai and stay on top of assignments to succeed. Attendance matters, so don't skip!
Class isn't too difficult but the assignments are pretty annoying. She's super disorganized and gives way too much information which makes the assignments feel more overwhelming than they actually are. Submission process is set in a way that tries to detect use of AI. Doesn't even work and is clunky as a result. Don't take her if you don't have to.
Her class isn't super hard but it's not easy. My biggest issue with the class is she talks a lot, like a lot. Almost the entire class is just her rambling on about whatever. Its like the equivelent of highlighting the entire article rather than just a few sentences. Other than that, she's nice and does actually care about helping so that's a plus.
I hated this class with all my heart, I don't wanna be mean so I won't write a lot, I just don't think her teaching styles work with me. I like really strongly disliked this class though. Everything was confusing and too much information which made me feel so overwhelmed. I don't recommend..
Teacher gives great constructive feedback, her course modules are somewhat disorganized, and she talks for a long time in class. Showing up matters, there are quizzes, or extra credit sometimes. Be prepared to revise a single essay multiple times, even though you're done with it.
Plan on spending an hour or two on discussion boards. Attendance is mandatory, has assignments that only get credit if you do in class, late assignments take big toll on grade. multiple essays about black history... I take a separate black history class for a reason. I do think she cares as a teacher and genuinely wants her students to understand.
One of my favorite professors i've had at SDSU. She is super laid back personality and funny. She may talk a bit in lectures but is makes personal connections with her students. I never enjoyed writing classes but she made the course super easy to follow along and was very clear with what she exactly wanted the essays to be like. I recommend!
She goes on long tangents about her own thought process of analyzing texts...Her analysis might makes sense in her head, but sometimes its not clear when she speaks it out loud, and then all of a sudden she's calling on you to put the pieces together as if the answer is so obvious. She doesn't understand that not everything she says translates.
She's very picky when it comes to grading. She has so many rules and directions that instead of giving clarity it ends up confusing you instead. I've never had so many assignments due in one semester. She's a bit disorganized too. She's nice though, her teaching style just isn't for me.
stupidest class. she rambles for the whole lecture. calls me out for being on my phone right after giggling at a guy whos on his phone. also only calls on guys to answer her questions and talk. most bs class, worked on the same exact thing for the first 6 weeks of class, and the second unit was about toxic masculinity and how it affects MEN.
I have literally never disliked an English class until this one. This teacher is incredibly annoying, one of those weird woman teachers who only likes the guys in the class, and this was the most stupid and useless class ever. Her directions are extremely unclear, but if you don't read her mind and figure it out, expect a bad grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE A GIRL She loves little boys, will blatantly try to embarrass girls. Whole unit on how toxic masculinity effects MEN. All of the work you do has to be so specifically her criteria, and you can't disagree with her ideas or she'll give you a bad grade. Whole class is so chatgpt able if thats what ur looking for.
Incredibly disrespectful woman. Blatalny complained about me missing class, when my disability plan is literally called "flexible attendance" due to illness. When I explained she was incorrect about the reasons for me missing class, and it was due to my disability, she just didnt respond. Also grades me horrible when I disagree with her ideas.
i have never hated a teacher like this before, passive aggressive, stubborn, disrespectful, all her rules and rubrics are so specific and confusing, everyone just ends up writing the same exact essay. Her criticism is unfair, and she targets students that don't suck up to her.
Dr. Fimbres is fantastic! A wonderful mom and teacher. She talks a lot during class and has many drafts for essays. Essay topics are sus ngl, but she's a nice mom and a strong woman. She gives great feedback on essays buts expects alot from us. I would definitely do her class again.
Professor Fimbres is a fantastic teacher and strong mother. She talks and talks and talks and talks and then tells you that there is a big draft due next class. Ms. Fimbres is a strong woman and caring soul. She grades super hard tho ngl. She likes to rewrite every sentence how she would write it. I appreciated her effort and care. A+ Mother
She's a really nice teacher and genuinely wants her students to learn from her class. However, her lectures are long and unnecessary. Class is pretty easy, but be ready to have time-consuming homework that seems simple, but is tedious and requires more time than you think. Despite how time-consuming it is, I appreciate her care for her 100 courses.
Lectures and talks for a long time which can sound repetitive but she does truly care about her students and what she is teaching. She is clear in her criteria and expectations. As long as you keep up and turn things in on time, super easy
Dr. Fimbres is a fantastic professor and amazing mother! She is such a strong woman and it really inspired me. Fimbres does lecture way too much and assigns odd topics, but she's a cool mom. Can get feisty but that's what happens when you have a kid to feed. Her feedback was rewriting the whole essay how she would do it. Interesting and A+ Mother!
