Professor Gordon is a very knowledgable professor, but makes this class more difficult than it has to be. There is a lack of a clear grading scale as to how you are doing throughout the course, and rarely utilizes brightspace for lecture notes and grades. Beware of the final, it can sink your course grade even if you were doing well previously.

Class structure and tests were relatively doable with common sense and general political knowledge (even as a non-politics major), but prof made things difficult for no apparent reason. He assigned sooo many readings, most of which did not appear in lecture, recitation, or on tests, and withheld useful slides and diagrams.

He made things more complicated than they needed to be, but if you do the readings and show up to lectures you'll be fine. Shout out to TA Lanie she was amazing! Midterm and final are worth a lot but not too bad if you study and memorize the material. The research paper was annoying but they were nice with grading it.

Professor Gordon's lectures were mostly very interesting and well structured, save a few topics that were a little harder to get through. Although he doesn't post the lecture slides, he posts outlines of what was covered and any important graphs or formulas. This is a very reading heavy course, so make sure to stay on top of that. Would take again!

Professor Gordon is nice as a person, but his lectures can be confusing and the project was hard with little guidance. And be warned: this class has lots of game theory. He also uses recitation as a whole other class (we learned new concepts and had separate readings for it). Probably wouldn't take him again.

Amazing prof! He really loves what he's teaching and it's obvious. He's very accommodating and truly wants you to succeed. I found his enthusiasm for the topic to make the class more interesting. Like other comments said, recitation is very important and is used to expand/teach a new topic not reviewed in class.

Cool guy, not so great prof. I don't go to lecture/read anything & you can get by on recitation participation & common sense. However, it doesn't mean the class is easy! The research assignment is confusing, and like I said, lectures make no sense, I stopped going after the second week. If you do take, choose Sam L as your TA! Also has game theory.

Good professor but overcomplicates simple things; Readings arent necessary but you will have to memorize them for exams; Grade is split upon 2 midterms, a project + the final, Doesnt post slides which can leave you confused since lecture can be really confusing; Nevertheless its an enjoyable class and I recommend if you have an interest in Politics

Professor Gordon is a rly smart guy, however often he over complicates the concept discussed in class. Also DONT READ THE TEXTBOOK— it is never tested. We also never talk about the readings in class— it's all in recitation. But the exams are all lectures and readings and you really have to know EVERYTHING. It's a good class— but a LOT of material.

Professor Gordon is a chill professor who knows a lot about the subject he teaches, except he really does overcomplicate a lot of content. Also, for the midterm we had to answer 4 out of 5 questions and I really hated that because we cover so much content. The research assignment was also pretty easy. You'll definitely ask your TA for help though.

He spends more time trying to sound intelligent than actually explaining the topics. He doesn't share slides and does random attendance at lectures. The tests don't match the study guides and a lot of reading every week. If he's your last resort take him but wouldn't be my first choice.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! By far one of the worst classes in the politics department, I highly advise anyone to not take it. But if you do decide to take it just remember I warned you.

He utilizes vocabulary that is far more complex than needed to teach an intro to American gov course. I think he does this to show off that he is intelligent I guess? Textbook is pointless and the readings only helped to pull evidence in the exams that are all written. You will feel lost the entire semester even if you do well. Random attendance

Actually I used to like him in the beginning of his class, that is why I decided to stay. However, in later semester, his lectures feel like have nothing to do with the midterms and final. U actually need to read a lots(13+ readings for u to read before every test). Again, lectures doesn't make sense!!! making this course harder than it should be

Class itself was ok. Recitations will mess up your grade. They are worth the same as a midterm and if you miss one, you can not get higher than an 80% for your recitation grade. It is ridiculous. Lots of readings, but manageable especially if you are interested in politics. Prof. Gordon was nice, but lectures seemed over-complicated at times.

A lot of the people that gave him a bad rating most likely didn't put in the work. That being said, he's an amazing lecturer. Very intelligent and engaging. The content and workload can be demanding at times but if you ask questions and put aside time to engage with the material you will be fine. I wish I could take a class with him again.

prof gordon himself was pretty fair and, more or less, engaging as interesting as a lecture can be. he did tend to make concepts more complicated than necessary. reading mostly unrelated to exams but exams were fair and doable. TAs determine your grade; their metric for participation is completely arbitrary, don't miss a recitation or get a C
