Good prof. Willing to help. Easy grader. Tests are a bit tricky though. Sometimes he's hard to understand.
Horrible prof. Very unclear, simply reads the book lessons to you, doesn't really teach, very unhelpful with questions. Impossible to follow lecture, had no clue what our grades were throughout the semester. Worst experience I've had at GVSU.
Even with some easy grading (taking only your best 6 answers out of 10), a majority of the class is still lost due to teaching problems, tries to be helpful, but can't communicate well, most of his students will have to retake this class with someone else
Impossible to understand through his accent. He tries to be helpful, but it doesnt work when you cant tell what he is saying. Make sure you take the class with another teacher.
amazingly wonderful man! anybody could get an A in his class. he is the easiest grader at this school. so willing to help and is always doing it with a smile. It was a great experience to have this man as my professor.
oh sango...his english is fine he just doesnt know what he's saying. grading not the hardest although you feel like you are doing horrible. he is a very nice man, and he means well, but i would not reccommend him. sorry
He doesn't teach. Simply plays with SAS all day long. I had no idea what was happening most of the time. Easy grader on assignments but not with tests. I don't recommend unless you know SAS already, then it will be a piece of cake.
Hes nice as any but from africa so accent is hard, very hard to understand and doesnt get class taught very well I didnt learn a whole lot. Basically try and get a different prof.
Nice teacher. Too many students whine about the teacher making things difficult when they could probably put forth more effort.
Read the chapters and do homework before the class lecture, otherwise you will have no idea what he is talking about. Tests are hard, makes you do homwrok in groups-making it hard to work with other people/schedules. Otherwise he is nice and helpful.
Drop this class immediately!!!!!!!!!!! Otherise you will regret it.
Nice guy, but can't teach. Must read book and do homework to do well in this class
Even though it's hard to understand him he is a very nice guy and willing to help with anything
Enjoy his enthusiasm in class.
Hard to understand. I don't like doing "group" work because most often one or two people do the work, and the rest sit around talking and get credit for it.
sango would be awesome to go to the bar with...however, teaching is not his forte. i, along with everyone else, hadn't a clue what was happening the entire time. he's new, maybe he willl improve but right now, there are more desireable profs.
Sango is a great prof. He was clear, he cared about his students and knew everybody's name by heart within the first week or so! If you don't understand anything, he spends hours at his office and he is happy to help you out. Great class, great prof!
I enjoyed his class. Sure, he was hard to understand at times because of his accent but he trully cared if the students were understanding the information. He was helpful with any questions that were asked. I would take a class with him again.
Sango is a cool guy, cares about his students, he will make you laugh and will not go on until everyone understands what he is teaching. Tests are easy. overall hes a good prof.
Sango is an awesome prof, one of the few profs I know that truly cares about each student. Takes his time so that everyone understands.Gives you all the old exams and quizzes to study off. Also allows you to have two sheets of notes on tests and quizzes are open book.Take him
He was confusing and the lectures did not corespond with the assigned homework. I had to drop the class half way through because I had no idea what was going on, even though I was doing the homework. I would avoid him for a teacher. He is a cool guy and would be fun to hang with at a bar.
Very confusing, lectures rather than teaches. He doesn't relate material at all to students. He basically lectures the book to you without good examples to help understand what he's talking about. Would NOT recommend.
VERY nice guy. He's a very confusing teacher but helpful and really likes his job. He has a fun sense of humor. Very easy, didn't even do homework and pulled an A. Lets you retake and make up anything. Take him for a gen ed!
Sango is the best stats professsor ever. I recived a C- in math 110 and an A- in his class. He is easy and helpful. His study guides are just like the test. Some questions are exact. So when he says look at the review do it and you will get an A in the class. He is a great professor.
Great Prof. Teaches to the student not the class. He is always willing to help at anytime. Even made one test a take home. He understands that some students are not "test takers".
Take this guy if u wanna do well in stats and learn something on the side...he teaches tons..but you get to use notes and ect....he wants to see if u understand it, not memorize it
Sango is very opinonated and offensive. He states his opinion and if your opinion counterdicts his, he will tell you why you are wrong. Very confusing!
I would never take him again. I got through it but I hated every second. It was so frustrating and I didn't learn a thing. Yeah, he's a nice guy, but that doesn't matter so much when you're as confused as I was.

Sango is one of the few Profs who really care about you. He will know everyone in the class and cares about everyone doing well. DO NOT believe anyone who says anything bad about Sango. I got a C in Math110 and an A in this class.. Take him and you'll get by and end up loving him.. GREAT GUY!!!!!
It's hard to say anything bad about Sango bc he's such a cool/nice guy. That said, his class and lectures are confusing and unhelpful. I managed an A by applying everything I learned in 215. You learn nothing except how to use SAS! Not reccomended
He is a super funny guy but doesnt always teach the best and doesnt always grade fairly enough. He truely cares that his students know the material and will try to work with you. The class itself is pretty boring but he tries his best to keep you awake.
Sango is a good prof. I am horrible at math and I have an A in this class. All quizzes are easy and take-home. He will help you even on quizzes. You are able to have a full sheet of notes on all exams. Lectures can be a bit confusing but he'll personally help you out. I highly recommend him as a professor.
Sango...is the man!
He's a very nice guy, but his teaching style is hard to understand and he FLYS by material. Most of the time you feel confused and lost. Exams get harder by the year, mine was just 13 pages long. Tries to help out of class, but it's still difficult to grasp. Offers extra credit. Take this class if you don't need much explanation of material.
He is soooo cool! His accent is not a problem, and he is funny and nice. If you pay attention in class you will do fine. The quizes are take home and you get a cheat sheet for the exams. You might not even need to read the book, but the problems are good practice.
nice guy, not good teacher. has a hard time commincating in english,. you never know what hes asking for on test/ quizes. makes an easy class hard!
This dude has no idea what the heck he's doing. Directions are unclear and I'm not even sure he makes up his own Powerpoint presentations... which just confuses me. Probably the worst experience I've had with a stats class, and this dude is one of the reasons people hate stats so much, I'm betting. Take it with Anderson if you want to learn and pas
I took STA 215 in 6 weeks over the summer and got an A. As long as you stay on top of your homework and ask questions when you are confused, you will do fine. His quizzes are take home and his exams are just like his quizzes, plus you can use a sheet of notes which is helpful. He is very entertaining & will do anything to see his students succeed.
I'm really glad I had Sango as my professor for this class. His passion for Statistics helped me to stay focused and learn more. If you pay attention and study for the quizes and exams you will do fine. It really pays to ask questions...He is very helpful!

very amusing teacher, the class was difficult but he made it fun. Midterm was a little difficult, be sure ot take advantage of the page of notes you can take to the midtetrm and final.
hahahah...loved him...lots of fun
Sango is one of the most helpful professors I have ever had. If you have problems with math and think you may have problems with stats, take him. The material is difficult but he shows you last semesters' quizzes and the answers to study from. Quizzes are take home as well. Utilize the tutors available and you'll be fine.
His lectures mad no sense, you had to teach yourself. You either understood or you didn't. He messed up on grading all the time, giving some people extra points for no reason. Most stuff is take home, but still difficult.
Sango, is a really nice professor. He knows the material is difficult and tries his best to explain. Most of the work is take home (qizzes, tests, etc), but the material is still difficult. I like the fact that he tries to give us some extra points, because if he didn't we would all fail. But he is a really nice, energetic...always happy professor.
Always excited to teach statistics. Really a constantly happy and nice guy. I thought the evaluations were straightforward. Know the formulas/meanings, and you can do the work no problem! I recommend him highly.
GREAT guy. Makes you call him "Sango," really laid back and fun/joyful every single day. Makes jokes and his Kenyan accent is hilarious. Makes a potentially tough subject bearable. He's really helpful in office hours, too. A little unclear at times w/ his accent, but his helpfulness and personality make up for it. Just pay attention in lectures.
Best Professor Ever!!! For a tough subject he makes it bearable. If you get the chance, take Sango's class!!
Very hard to understand. Lectures were pointless and we taught ourselves how to do the labs and use SAS. Open book/take home exams.
Just go to class and personally talk and joke with him a lot. He really liked my class and gave us a ton of free points on exams. If you are completely lost dont even worry, just argue to have takehome exams and do the easy homework. I got an A without trying, i simply showed up to the class.
X-BA. WHAT IS THE PROBABILITY OF GETTING HEAD...HEADHEADHEAD! Sango is absolutely amazing. It gets boring sometimes because of the subject, but he makes it really loud and fun! As hard as the subject was, Sangos class was really easy and I really recommend him! 1 page cheat sheet for midterm and 2 page for final. He loves talking in 3rd person. lol
Okay, Sango is a good guy and he is a lot of fun and entertaining to watch. He isn't a very good Prof though. He knows the subject like the back of his hand, just fails at teaching it. EVERYONE in my class was lost.I ended with a B+ with luck.Take home tests with labs and homework. He is good at teaching SPSS though,no idea what others are thinking
Sango is awesome! Makes what everyone says is a hard class easy. He can be difficult to understand at first, but not bad. Just go to class and you'll be fine. Quizzes and midterm were all takehome and half the answers were on the old exams he posted on blackboard!
This is the only class I've ever dropped. Terrible teacher, incomprehensible, and frustrating. I didn't think anyone could be this bad. BLEH.
He is really funny and he'll keep you awake, but his lecture notes are confusing and not that helpful. He barely has examples. You barely need the text book as well. take home quizzes are hard. but his midterm and final from pervious years are on blackboard and almost the same. his teaching method may not be the best, but hes funny.
Sango is a very funny professor. Stay on his good side and stay out of the "box" (go to class). I learned almost nothing in lectures and after taking this class I still dont know statistics. Dont take his class if you want to learn about statistics. Otherwise he is very entertaining.
Very good person, very entertaining, but can be tough to understand the course sometimes. He gives you everything, literally everything, so going to class isn't really an issue.
This class makes absolutely no sense. Do not take it if you want to understand statistics. Only take if you already have a good grasp on stats and want to be entertained (but feel like your time is being wasted) during class time.
Do not take this professor. Period. Class attendance seems a waste of time. While he has a sense of humor, it is rarely on topic. Class notes are of little to no help in studying. Homework is minimal. he does the lab exercises for you in class so you don't actually learn the material. If you actually want to learn statistics, get a different prof.
Professor Sango is extrememly funny, his lectures can be boring if you already know some of the material. His exams are difficult if you don't take the time to look over the chapters. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ONE PAGE OF NOTES that he allows you to use on the exams. His exams are almost identical to the lab exercises and the examples during lecture.
I struggled in this class but Sango is super funny. Sometimes his lectures are boring. His exams are difficult if you don't take the time to look over the chapters/notes. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ONE PAGE OF NOTES for exams. I enjoy Sango as a teacher... very respectable man.
Don't take this class unless you want to waste time/$. Being funny doesn't make a good teacher. He structured the class horribly and made no sense. We were suppose to learn R Software but only talked about theoretics & equations. I had to teach myself! He says "email me and i will answer you", but he will wait until the the next class to answer you
Sango is funny, but not an effective lecturer. Grades based on improvement. Try the best you can and teach yourself and you will get a decent grade.
Terrible professor. Lectures are oriented to math/statistics majors, not biologists. He grades homework on what he feels you deserve, not what you earned. Do not recommend taking him, try STA610 as other CMB grad students can take this class instead.
Awful professor. Spends most of his time running around the classroom trying to fix errors in individuals' SAS codes, while barely teaching anything overall. I had to learn SAS from the book, along with all of the actual statistics in the class. He's a funny and friendly guy, to be sure, but don't take him for this class.
Sango is a very nice man, but his class makes absolutely no sense. I love statistics very much, but what we do in there is not statistics. The class is a waste of time if you actually want to learn statistics. He basically talks to himself the whole class and expects you to follow along. I would not recommend taking his course.
Horrible! Don't take Sango, he's just all over the place. It's like he's in his own world and he's not clear on what he wants sometimes. All together he's not a helpful guy.
Sango is a great professor. He makes things very easy to learn and has you work through problems with SAS. Extremely helpful, just ask for help. Exams are pretty straight forward and lab exercises are easy as well. I would highly recommend Sango.
I would say participation matters due to his extremely odd way of explaining statistical methods. Overall, he knows what he is doing, but is not very good at teaching the material. Any subject students did not understand he would spend more time on, so many subjects weren't covered that were required. Funny guy, but hurt me when continuing stats.
Proud to announce i haven't learned a thing all semester. Makes no sense 100% of the time. He gives quizzes that are open note, but if you have bad notes or do not go to class you will fail. Lab exercises and homework are pretty much done in class easy points. Don't expect to learn a thing, but you will end with an A-B even if you put min. work in
A bit of a character, Sango, but hilarious. He said at the start of my semester with him, "No free lunch" and he MEANS it. You have to put in the effort and work for the grade. He's not unfair, but his bouncy teaching style can confuse some students. He goes a bit quick, so be sure to ask him to slow down a bit or reiterate if you're confused.
Although I love Sango as a person, I would never want him as a professor again. He is funny and caring, but isn't a direct professor. He gets jumbled during lectures and starts at step 1, goes to step 4, and then remembers he didn't do step 2 or 3. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU'VE NEVER TAKEN STATS BEFORE. You will have to teach yourself.
I loved Sango! I don't understand why people think he is confusing, he really bonds with each of his students and because of that it's easy to ask him questions and he's happy to answer them. He is the best professor I have ever had, the people giving him low ratings must not have shown up to class often because this is a five star course.
I would recommend not taking his class. He is not organized at all. His tests, homework, and quizzes are online and he does not give it back to you to tell you what you did wrong. On top of not learning anything, you have to teach yourself and work 10 times harder than you have to. He is a wonderful, caring person, who has gets overly excited.
Sango is an interesting man. He is excited to be in class but unfortuately he doesn't make a lot of sense. He does have a heavy accent but I'm used to that and could understand him. The only part that was unclear were his lectures. I couldn't follow them, he jumped all over the place, and his explanations make no sense.
At the very least, Sango is funny. That's about all the positive I unfortunately have to say about this guy. Will show up to class late, and has been known to skip his office hours without posting ahead of time. He just reads off the projector at super fast speeds, so you never really learn anything.
Sango is a really funny, outgoing, and caring professor. I just haven't learned much in his class because it's a lot of copying and pasting without explaining what the code means. He's all over the place and when he does try to explain something it is confusing.
Sango is a very passionate and caring professor but if you're new to stats, I suggest you take someone else. He's very experienced but that makes it so that if you don't know stats, you'll probably have no idea what he's talking about. Kinda all over the place, but he loves when you ask questions. Great person overall. Definitely go to class.
Very confusing, not because of accent, but the lectures are all over the place & confusing. It really is mostly just copying & pasting all class. If you get confused or lost, you are lost the rest of the class. You will have to spend a lot of time teaching yourself the material. A nice guy & has a good sense of humor. He didn't respond to emails.
Sango is a great guy, but his course can be somewhat hard to follow at times. But it must also be considered that for a programming class, it becomes more dependent on the student to put the effort into understanding and learning the concepts outside of class as it's not a skill you can pick up without practice. It is an Easy A with little effort.
I can honestly say I didn't learn a single thing. he was an awful prof for this class. he would spend time explaining stuff we didn't need to know and not explain the stuff on quizzes or exams. his explanations were always half-way. he would side track and never answer the question. no one in my class learned anything at all. would never recommend
He speaks at you and expected you to understand strictly because he understands. Lectures are extremely hard to follow and the tests arent on anything he talks about in class. Very frustrating course content. If you dont already know everything about statistics. Dont take this class
Sango was a very nice guy and personable but unless you are a Stats expert this class will only confuse you and teach you nothing.
One of the most disorganized classes I have ever taken. The teacher would never have quizzes prepared before the day they were assigned, so students would show up and the first 20 minutes were wasted while he would set things up. His lectures were all over the place. He randomly calls names in the class without even knowing if that person exists.
Super disorganized class. Notes make little sense and he only skims through them once per week. You'll get a basic understanding of SAS but he does not give clear objectives and you'll need to fall back on your knowledge from 215. Many kids dropped halfway through and those who stayed strongly disliked the course. Would not recommend.
Sango is a super nice guy. Sadly, he is not very good at answering questions from students. He gives detailed lecture notes, so you won't need a book, but he really is not good at explaining the basics. The class felt very scatter-brained. I'd say I taught myself most of the concepts through the notes, which is far from ideal for a college course.
I learned nothing from the class. The content of his homework didnt line up with what was on the weekly quizzes which was very frustrating. I only did well in the class because he offered so much extra credit on the quizzes. Would highly recommend AGAINST taking Sango.
Sango believes in learning on your own through data exploration and making mistakes. Not a good teacher for those that like to know what is expected of them or for those that like clear answers to questions or for those looking to actually learn the content. You just want to breeze through Stats (without learning)? Sango is for you.
Sango would be a nice guy to talk to outside of school. He messes up common math and statistics equations, explains things poorly, doesn't teach anything really, and his exams have absolutely nothing in common with the very little he does talk about. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. You'll be screwed into taking him in STA419 so avoid before that.
Lectures are all over the place. It seems most of the class is him fixing his own errors in the code. His exams are confusing and don't always reflect what we learned in class. His notes are confusing and not useful. The final project is very vague.
Confusing, doesn't know what he is talking about. The whole class is spent using SAS, but none of the learning objectives are about SAS. You don't need to know SAS for the course, but that is all you are doing all the time? Make sense? That's Sango. He needs to quit or be fired. All class he tries to fix his code, and you learn NOTHING
You never know what is expected of you. Some of the homework or lab assignments have problems without questions, so you just have to guess what he wants. He is no good at explaining anything. The class is SAS code heavy. He was often late to class.
Sango is a nice man I suppose, but a completely ineffective professor. Class has no structure and he does not actually teach anything. STA321 will be spent just looking at R code with no explanation of what it does in class, and completing assignments that are vague and oftentimes don't actually include any questions. Avoid taking if possible
Very confusing. Dropped the course because he was very unorganized, and the RStudio was super confusing as the codes he provided for the homework did not work for me. I didn't appreciate how he organized the quizzes and homework as a whole, seemed very scattered and confusing. As an accelerated course, I could not afford to be this confused.
Professor Sango's class was disorganized and confusing. Though he provides detailed notes, his explanations are unclear, and the course content didn't align with the assessments. However, the abundant extra credit helped me pass. I'd suggest using unstuck ai alongside the course materials to succeed.
Do not take Sango. He is extremely disorganized and you never know what is expected of you. He is a nice guy--super enthusiastic and knows everyone's name, but is generally not a good teacher. Long exams that take well over the allotted class time. Spent all of class fixing his SAS errors. Final project had no instructions and took DAYS to complete
Online class, only 6 weeks. Class was pretty easy as long as you pay attention and ask questions. Pretty funny and is very enthusiastic. He has issues with the whole online class and technology but I didn't find any issues with the class.
You will not learn anything on survey sampling, however, will spend the entire semester talking about SAS code. This class is disorganized, and Blackboard was extremely hard to navigate. He is extremely approachable and will help you on work. Yet, most of the time you don't even know what to ask because everything is confusing.
