The best math teacher i ever had! he is a friend rather than a teacher!! Just do the work and listen and ask if u have questions! Take him!! U won't regret it!!
Prof Gupta is a great teacher - although math is not my forte, it is a required course for my major. Gupta has made learning multivariable calculus fun and entertaining.
I got an A and never did any homework. There are no pop quizzes, and you don't need to show up but his class has a friendly environment. Also, he skipped graphs and he's got a good sense of humor. I definitely recommend his class for math 253.
Great teacher. He is always willing to help. Explains everything very well and takes time to answer questions. Attendance is mandatory, sometimes he gives extra credit for just showing up. I would recommend taking him.
Hes the yoda of math... Gupta is super sexy time!!
his 4A class is deadly. i did all the hw, read the book, and managed to barely pass. super hard
Gupta is awesome. He sarcastically destroys the smart-ass students and is a big help to anyone who needs assistance. Don't try to argue, don't get greedy. Great teacher; I would recommend him to anyone.
Really nice and helpful, will make sure you pass if you do the homework. Do the homework or else "I see a bad grade in the future." Tests seem long, but you have more than enough time. TAKE GUPTA, YOU WILL LEARN! I wish I could take him for 4A and more, but I have to transfer. BTW DO THE HW unless you want to fail.
I just finished my 4A class with him. Actually 4A is a hard, but Gupta made it a little easier. Doing hw is not really important, but solving the review sheets problems is a MUST. %70 of final questions come from review sheets. And he grades fairly, i never thought of getting a B in his class. Thanx Gupta
without a doubt the best math teacher i have ever had. He really teaches you! Kinda scary at times but its all to force you to try your best. Not an easy class but if you put effort you will do well. loveee him!
Amazing class, never a dull moment. Super bright professor who teaches you not only how to think but also a lot of handy tricks. MUST take at least 1 class with him before leaving IVC. You can get by without doing your homework until the week of the next test, but you def won't get by without... DRAWING A PICTURE. So draw a picture. DRAW A PICTURE!
Amazing class. Amazing teacher. Very helpfully and class was never boring. If you do the homework problems and attendance class everyday, you will do fine.I hate math and he made it easy to understand!
this guy is legit. seriously. HE IS SUCH AN A**HOLE and i loved it. he is funny. never boring. made math more than just bearable. take your math class with him!
He's the best. I dreaded that I had to take calculus 3B. He made the class interesting trying to keep it upbeat, and it works. Sometimes he has his off days, but who doesn't. His tests are straight from homework and notes, study and do them over. There is EC on them too, but Chapter 12 is the hardest, so beware and study hard. Can def get an A or B
I think his quiz are mostly from the notes.
Somehow he manages to make calculus fun; expect to laugh a lot in his class. Like any other math class, you must do the homework to be successful (especially since he uses a lot of HW questions on the tests). He'll spend time answering questions (even the most inane) until you understand-- so long as you're not too scared to ask.
One of the best teachers i've ever had. i abhorred math in high school, this guy somehow made me end up loving the subject. he keeps the class going with interesting humor and will explain anything (as long as its not explained in the book) you want. if you were never a math guy and need to take calc, take it with gupta.
he is a good teacher, but if u ask any stupid question (or even a hard one that he has problem solving!!)He will make fun of you for the whole semester!thats his problem and because of this im too scared to talk or ask questions!
I took this class before and I failed it. Then I took it with Gupta and he's just amazing. He somehow manages to make the most terrifying subject fun! He's very clear and he knows what he's doing. He's beyond smart and cares about his students a lot. He's the best teacher to take calculus with at IVC hands down. Highly recommended
Gupta is one of the best Math teachers I've ever had the pleasure of taking. He comes off as being intimidating at first but that's strictly to get rid of the slackers. He's open to any suggestions to make the class run more smoothly and understandable for everyone so tell him. Do yourself a favor and take his class any chance you get.
Honestly, THE BEST PROFESSOR IN THE WORLD! I absolutely loved his class and wish I still had more math classes to take. Gupta... You da you da BEST!
Very cool teacher. Awesome. He is the best teacher I have ever had. He makes sure everybody understands the lesson, plays fun games, is really on top of things (like he gets it). Thank you for teaching me, Mr. Gupta.
The most fun I had in a math class. Do your homework, all of it! He makes you understand it, he really cares about the students. I would take all the classes he's teaching. He might seem intimidating at first, but he's chill! Make a hard effort and you will pass with an A. It's a very doable class. Don't ask stupid questions. Thanks prof. Gupta!!!!
Pick on student which is not nice! Easy on quiz but hard on exam! Must study hard for exams!
I decided to take Gupta on the recommendation of several friends who had taken him before. Something changed about him, apparently. He is unforgiving, harasses students in class and in office hours. While his lectures are informative they are anxiety inducing. No curve despite class average being 40% on first midterm. He'd rather fail us all.
really funny teacher. use the easiest way to let you understand some diff Thm. he will check and correct your answer before you turn in quiz or exam which is so nice. Get an A so easy if you do the homework. The quiz and exam is really similar with the homework.
Fabulous teacher. Highly recommend him. U can get 100% full mark in his quizzes for sure (he gives us answer) But have to study hard for exam. Do homework and you will be fine.
Math is not for everyone but when you have a teacher that is as dedicated and helpful as Prof Gupta you can't complain. Some teachers motivate you in different ways he uses many different techniques. At times I was really "scared" but he pushed me as a student. If you want an easy A don't take him... in fact just drop out of college and spare us.
Sanjai is a great teacher...he is always willing to help and answer questions. You need to study for the exams but often he pulls the problems from the worksheets you do in class/at home.
He's very smart. Very helpful. Understands his students. Explains this thoroughly but so that anyone can understand it, you don't have to be a Math person to understand his explanations. Great teacher! My favorite professor @ IVC.
He's helpful and smart, but he's not always sunshine and rainbows. Fortunately he's also pretty hilarious. Ask questions in class or go to office hours; he's good at explaining math, so take advantage of that. Do the homework and try hard and you'll do well (unless you're just hopelessly bad at math).
Despite his grumpy exterior, he answers all your questions and he really knows what he is talking about. All you need to do is listen in class to understand the material (lots of exercises), and, if you need, do the suggested exercises. Tip, don't try to appeal for a better grade or ask him about grading. Also he notices if you work hard.
BUY SOLUTIONS MANUAL! If you ask him questions before consulting it he wont answer, however ask how they came up with an answer he will always help you! He also likes to hear personal stories it makes him laugh and he will excuse you from quiz?s. Office hours are a MUST he tells you the answers to the test there! Just ask!Hard class but worth it
If you wanna know the true meaning of SMART, take a class with him. If you hate math, and wanna love it, take a class with him. He understands his students, and if you work hard, he notices, and helps you with the grade, but make sure you do all the homework, and prepare well for the quizzes. You've got to take him before graduating from IVC.
he is so smart it's kind of intimidating at first but he's always willing to help explain things as long as you're not annoying :p OFFICE HOURS ARE A MUST. i was so lost for half of the semester until i started going to all his office hours. he's seriously the best. i wouldn't have survived without him
Awesome professor, extremely smart and devotes so much time to those who want it. Work hard, and don't 'suck at algebra'. He's truly a great teacher, and watching him teach the math reignited my passion for the subject. Take him
Great prof. Make things clear and simple. Understand what our needs in class. Quiz is not easy but he helps you out that u can get full mark. Exams are similar to homework questions. Easy to get A if u do homework. Highly recommend him.
Excellent Professor. Cares a lot about aking sure you understand the roots of math. Has office hours, quiz once a week, exams like hmwk, know your Algebra, partial credit
He's extremely smart and helpful! his test are confusing at times but he makes sure he explains his notes well in class. One of the best math professor's I've ever taken! Need to take him and you will start liking math. His class is usually funny too! :)
He is okay, I guess. Not the best teacher, but tries to help. Can be hard to follow and changes from topic to topic as he teaches. Available, hard tests, sometimes totally unexpected. Work hard.
He is the best teacher I've ever had. He makes sure students understand everything they have trouble with.He is extremely funny and makes class fun.
Best teacher for Calculus hands down. I never thought there was exceptional teaching and believed no teachers really helped and you should just read from the book;however, Prof. Gupta teaches you as clear as Calculus will get and helps you if you go to his office hours. I would say one thing listen to his advice dont use the solution manual.
Great professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but this is the first class that I didn't miss once. Fun classes, but the work is hard. Really recommend taking this professor.
Ahahaha mr.gupta you're awesome. I took 3A w/ Gupta and tomorrow is my first day of 3B w/ him! Can't waittt yayyyy. Things to know? 1.If he says it's on the test, it's on the test (ex. Theorems)2.Do hw (includ. sugg. probls - they're on the test) 3.Ask Qs(even during tests lol) If you ask for help, he'll be there. best calc teacher! -laughing girl
Hands down THE best math professor at IVC. Gupta strives to help you learn the material. But you have to put in effort and DO WORK! LOOK OVER YOUR NOTES BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION. Dont bother @ looking @ the solution manual, iz very stupid and you wont learn. Think before you say anything! Do all the hw review notes ask questions and you'll be good.
Teaching at its prime. If you have yet to experience a good teacher take Gupta. He is the best teacher to take for Calculus and is very clear about the subject. I have yet to encounter another teacher this good. He knows his stuff and will help you greatly. Help yourself and listen to his advice don't use the solution guide.
I usually never comment on professors. I just take the class get my grade and move on but I had to comment on Sanjai. He is by far the best teacher in both ivc and saddleback. Very smart, very helpful, and funny too! All you need to do is study well and do everything he asks you to do and you're good. You're missing out if you don't take him.
Ive had many great teachers, but Mr Gupta truly is the most wonderful teacher.Caring, devoted,& SO helpful.Class is diligence based.Try hard and you'll do well.If you're having trouble, talk to him because he'll inspire you to learn.I sucked at and hated math in hs,but ended up loving the subject because he helps you look at it in a new light.
I took two math classes with Gupta and he is by far the best math teacher! Would recommend him to everyone! He really knows his math and is extremely helpful and approachable.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken but he is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He makes you work hard and understand, not just memorize. I never fully learned math until I took his class, and that's a good thing!
Only one comment! The best teacher I have ever had!!!!
Best Professor I've ever had!!!
Know your algebra !
Make sure , if you have your cellphone ring in class it's an Adele song!
All I can say is that I learned some math for the first time in my 30 years of life. I was motivated enough by this professor to finish ALL(even and odd) problems from 4 different textbooks (7th, 6th, 5th and the 4th editions). Keep up the good work professor Gupta! I might take another math course just for fun. Thanks!
He is the best teacher. He thinks super fast that sometimes it is hard to follow, but go to his office hour because he is a big help.He is very funny in class, and he always want to teach more to you.It is a enjoyment to attend his class. But I recommend you do all the suggested problems.
Model Professor. Treats everyone fairly and explains everything very thoroughly. It is obvious that his main goal is to actually TEACH his students the material, rather than waste class time. I recommend him, but just remember that the class is not easy at all. Make sure you go to the buffet and get fat by doing math problems :D
The best math professor in IVC. His lecture is very clear and helpful. However, you should do the homework. If you do not finish the homework, it would be very hard to get A
No matter how cliche this sounds, it's completely true. Do the homework and you'll get an A/B. Simple as that.
I got the second highest score in the class, but the rest are just struggling and he has no mercy on ones who didn't start off right, thus don't even think about getting an A. Everyone asks questions because he is not thorough in his teaching. He tries to be funny to compensate for giving everyone bad grades n his bad teaching. He is all hype.
Best math teacher I've ever had!EVER. Super nice, great sense of humor. Don't talk during lecture, respect him and he will respect you back. He doesn't use the book which saved me money and the annoying heaviness of lugging it around the campus. He doesn't necessarily 'play favorites', but keep on his good side and participate if possible.GOOD LUCK!
He is not the greatest teacher everyone thinks he is. he makes you think your in a club but he its an exclusive club. the rest he makes fun of you and makes you looks dumb infront of the class. the help in the office is near non existant. its a party there not a helping scene. he is all hype and not substance in teaching. -1
Will not help you unless you do the homework and draw pictures. Which is pretty easy. His tests are based on review guides/practice tests.
Amazing teacher. Always helpful, always patient. Awesome, abrasive sense of humor. If you talk or text in class, you will get what's coming to you, which is always fun to watch. Very clear. Don't need textbook, and no homework, yet you still learn everything you're supposed to.
gupta is a good man and a good teacher, do your homework, best math teach i've had at IVC, also if you want to open your mouth alot he will not indulge you so act like an adult in his class
Alright, well Gupta is a great professor and the way he instructs is great. He makes the students know how to solve a problem from all angles. He just does not want you to know how to solve it, he wants you to dissect the problem. However, his only downfall is that he chooses a few students to pick on throughout the semester.
Amusing class. Arguably the best math teacher at IVC, but you will of course need to work to understand the subject. I would advise you to take Gupta over the others if given the choice.
He is an outstanding teacher. He cares immensely about his students (although it may not seem so at times). He will rock you with homework though....and you better do it because that's your only ticket to an A in his class. Oh yea, and his class is very entertaining. Try to DRAW A PICTURE for any problem you're stuck on before asking for help
GUPTA is the best math professor.math is not my major & i hate it but he made it seem very easy. you HAVE to go to his office hours and ask for help.HELP wont come SEEK U.also i was in the night class and always tired but he made the CLASS so much fun and kept his students interested even if it meant picking on them here and there.
Gupta is very passionate about math and sometimes his lectures are too fast and confusing to keep up with, but his tests are very fair. You MUST do ALL of his homework problems in order to do well in his class. Lowest quiz dropped, lowest test replaced with final exam score. Attendance is also mandatory. He makes math interesting.
If you take Gupta's class once you wouldn't want to take a math class with any other teacher. He knows the material very well and is very passionate about math. He's lectures are very interesting. He is also very helpful during the office hours. The tests are fair. If you haven't taken his class yet, your missing out...
Awesome teacher! only take if your serious about getting a good grade. Pay attention, do the work in class and you'll be fine. I HATE MATH. But this man made it enjoyable. My advice to pass, don't talk in class and sit in the front if you can!
Professor Gupta is one of the best professors that I have had. He is unbelievably intelligent, solving extremely difficult problems in his head. I have learned so much in his class and I recommend him to any student who wants to learn mathematics.
I am doing well but the rest is struggling. He is always rushing things. The tests are nothing like the homework problems. He never goes over the homework problems. He assumes everyone understands based on a few students that always answer all the questions asked by him during lecture. If you want to get an A and actually learn, take castrocande.
If you are serious about learning & understanding calculus then this is your professor. I recommend taking him for the entire series of math classes. His grading is 100% fair & exams are consistent with problems from HW & study guides. He goes fast but will slow down if you ask him to & he holds 4+ hours a week of office hours. A++ Math Professor!!
350 words to describe Gupta is hella limited. I took the class on accident. Now I am a Math major, because I want to grow up to be just like my white tee, skinny jeans professor. He never gave us a pee break, but I didn't mind. I held it in just to listen to him speak about the wonderful world of Calc. Gupta's class is the happiest place on earth.
He is a good teacher, but not for everybody. He helps the good students, but has little patience with the students who need help. Falls behind and then rushes to try to cover all. He was great in Calc, but Linear is not for him to teach.
Yes, great for the Calc sequence but just ok for Linear and DiffEqs. His trying to make everybody get it a big mistake.
His tests are extremely hard. There are lots of curve balls and gives us questions from Stanford. There are partial credit but he barely gives any. The semester's almost over and I and others I spoke to still have no idea what's going on in class although I put in a lot of time. When students fall behind, he tend to not care. Do not take his class.
Professor Gupta is Amazing. I've never had a more interesting and intelligent profesor in my collegiate career. Though he teaches high level mathematics, I've never been more excited to attend a class...nor have I ever deliberately wanted to miss a class! Gupta embodies excellence in merit, teaching, kindness, and as an awesome professor! Thank you
Best Math professor I've ever had. Took all my math classes with him and I highly recommend him to every body! Smart,Funny, Caring and super Helpful!
Sanjai is honestly the best professor I've had in any subject. He teaches clearly and well, he makes class fun and interesting, and he cares more for his students than any other professor I've had. He is incredibly kind and will do everything he can to help you. The complaints about test difficulty are ridiculous. He is simply the best.
Gupta makes class fun and interesting, he shows us what the real life applications are and stuff. Also he makes sure we understand the math
I took him my last two semesters.I regret ever making that decision, wish I took him for all my math classes! At first,I was intimidated by his intellect, but don't be,he's really down to earth.Take him every chance you can!Keep an eye out for his shot attempts with his markers, and his facial expression when makes it,though those rarely happen ;)
This guy is probably a legend. People come to IVC, only for big "G", I've had him since 3b all the way until 26, and his notes are absolutely flawless. He makes sure that everyone is getting the material, I highly recommend people to take his classes, you will definitely not regret it. You'll even learn to speak different languages at the end.
This class is not easy by nature, but Professor Gupta makes it very clear how to succeed. As long as you do the homework and study your notes, you'll be fine. He's very helpful if you make the effort to understand. His notes are extremely clear and don't leave anything open to interpretation when you are looking back at them. Take his class.
Gupta is a genius and although some may think of him as rude, he is very straightforward. Don't take offense to anything he says. Tests are fair and he will help you during the test. An A is possible but be prepared to work on problems in the book and the review sheets he gives. Would recommend him to anyone. He's the best professor I've ever had.
Pretty much same as the general pattern of comments here. Do the homework because those problems end up on the tests and quizzes, draw a picture with the problem, go to math lab and office hours to get help, and attendance is a must for this class.
Gupta is a BLESSING!! Very knowledgable in Linear Algebra (math 26), very understanding, and hardworking. He knows all of his students and cares about them. He grades you based on your hard work and participation. Do all the homework, pay close attention in class, and you will have an A. But more than that, you really learn mathematics in his class
He is the best math professor ever. You learn a lot in his class. He cares about each and everyone of his students. If you attend class, do the homework you will definitely do well in his class. DO NOT transfer before taking his class at least once.
He focuses too much on fitting in with the students. Unlike other professors at IVC, he does not care about students' grades individually. He rushes and barely has any time to cover the material, let alone review it. There is no curve and he has a set grade distribution, so he has a set amount of how many will receive A's, B's, and so on.
He is the best math professor I have ever had... actually he is the best prof. I have ever had!!! He is very conceptual and smart, and all he cares about is for his students to learn. If you want to learn math TAKE HIM. Also he is not going to count every god-d... point to give you a final grade, he is very generous in grading.
Hands down the best professor at IVC. He truly cares about each and everyone student in the class. He's more than willing to go out of his way to help every student. He is easygoing and very friendly so do not be afraid to talk to him during his office hours. As long as you do the homework, review the notes, and pay attention in class, A no problem
Took his class last semester. Super cool guy, but don't challenge him unless you are ready for war. He will beat you. Best mathematician I know and I like his sarcastic/demeaning sense of humor. He does everything within reason to help you, plus a little more. Wish I could take him for 4A even though we hade a love/hate relationship ;)
He is a GREAT proff, and im not saying it because i got an A. i wish i took the other math classes with him, but oh well, i am done with ivc. he explains everything well and he is very approachable for help, consult your notes first. be engaged in class, and DO THE HW, you will def not get an A if you skimp on the hw. he is def the best prof at ivc
Very smart and funny guy:)at first i had some difficulties understanding his classes since im not a native speaker, but he explains very well and clear, just remember to do all the HW on time, go to office hours and of course pay attntion in class, then u can get an A like me :)
Good instructor, but can move fast at times. If you have questions, speak up, he'll take the time to ensure you & the class understand the concepts. Follow his rules and respect your classmates environment, he does not tolerate distractive behavior and expects everyone to behave like an adult. Be prepared if you challenge him, he'll push back.
AWESOME. Sarcastic sense of humor, but keeps you interested in class. Is MORE than willing to help you understand. Attendance mandatory if you want class credit. No HW. Finish class work early? You get to leave early. No textbook. Complete all the in class worksheets, then the tests will be CAKE. DO NOT EVER use your cell phone. EVER. He HATES it.
Took 3B with him in the summer. Great guy, can come off a little mean at first, really really knows his stuff. You will get an A if you put it the work(notes/pay attention in class, homework, not studying at the last minute). Recommended P.S: He doesn't have an accent.
By far the best professor I have ever had in my entire life. In Calc 1 I ended up with a D, retook it and got a C. Going into Calc 2 I was terrified, but with Gupta's teaching and the environment of the class I ended up with a 97% in the class. It was a lot of hard work but I enjoyed it immensely. Take this class. Get a study group. Get an A.
Gupta is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. He has had a profound impact on my life, and he has made calculus enjoyable for me. I go to class motivated every day because he makes math fun!
One of the best professors. You need to work hard and show that as well. He notices the hardworking students and never lets them down. Best professor. Rock on.
Best professor ever!
Gupta is one of a kind, his class is indescribable, I experienced math - for the first time- as it suppose to be. best of the best.
BEST TEACHER WALKING ON EARTH. Amazing personality and really cares about his students although he rarely shows it. TAKE HIM ! he is going to make you enjoy doing math. His class is super fun and he is really funny. His classes get filled in less than two hours, so go register you wont regret it, if anything it is going to be the best semester!
HANDS DOWN TO THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR ON THE PLANET!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love him ! Such an amazing person and teacher..willing to explain the material more than once..welcomes questions and is always more than happy to help..very enthusiastic ..hands down best teacher ever..take him take him take him..if you did not, its your loss !!! =D
He kind of knows the material, but he is too worried about being liked by students that he forgets he is the teacher. Not really the best instructor I have had, just okay. Has favorites that always do better than the rest. Not fair grader.
The best teacher at IVC .. AND HE IS A FAIR GRADER !
He is the best professor at ivc. He is very SMART and knows his stuff. He is very helpful in class and during office hours. Just ask question if u don't understand the material and do the hw and will get A. I wish I could take more classes with him. He is fair grader and the best thing is he doesn't have accent! Highly recommend taking his class.
Work hard, listen, use office hours. He is hard, but cares and works hard to teach you. Taking him will make you are better student. Amazing professor that is passionate for his students. He teaches upper lvl math so if you take his class bring your big boy pants. He makes you want to do good for him.
his class was good
Had both 3A&3B in 1 semester. His lectures come with a live comedy stand-up. Will clarify ANYTHING if asked; hesitation is your worst enemy! Stay up to date with homework so you understand material for next section; or you will be lost. Hard HW problems teaches tricks! Has extra credit opportunities. Get him before he gets too old for math.
By far he is the best professor I have had. He makes math enjoyable for everyone. He is smart, and explains the material well. He is very helpful and willing to explain a problem many time till everyone gets it.I had Calcs with him as well and his classes is indescribable. Just need the book for doing the hw. Take his class and you won't regret it.
He is the kind of professor you can get along with. Class seems hard in the first few weeks, and then it is fun and relaxing. Test based on homework. Quizzes and maple project are easy. Math 24 is hard, and you WILL need time to do homework and revise tests and quizzes, so don’t take it easy even other comments are kind of “telling” you that.
I had 10 units, MATH 3A & 3B, with Professor Gupta this term so i spent 3 hrs every day of the week with him. He managed to keep the class fun for everyone. He teaches very clearly and he does not want to torture his students; he realizes that most of us are engineering or bio majors not math. I'm excited that I have 4A with him in the Spring.
Do not recommend him. He seems nice and seems like he is going to give you an A and everything but be warned. He change his system, he gave a lot of Bs for no reason just because he did not like our class.
The best professor to ever teach math. He is a students` teacher which means he is willing to help if you ask questions and show that you are trying. His tests are not easy but straight forward from his notesn and review. Take him and go to his office hours with questions!
He makes you really feel the mathematic vibe in class. Math class can get boring and tough but his class is full of laughter and a lot of learning. Tests were fair but not too easy. weekly quizzes and the homework were mandatory which actually helped me to do well. His method is number 1. Take his class before it gets full. you won't regret.
He is a good professor. If you do your homework and understand your notes, you will get A easily.
Best Professor at IVC. He actually knows how to teach the material and goes out of his way to make sure everyone understands the subject. NOT a boring teacher, as he likes to connect with the class, and does so successfully. Made all of us laugh. Take him!!!!!!
Wonderful teacher. Always eccentric and willing to explain (after his coffee, of course). Only downside is that there's lots of drama; but it makes class even more interesting, so I can't complain.
He has to be the best math teacher at IVC. He teaches well. He cares about his students. He is down to earth. He is funny as hell. and he is smart (Stanford graduate). I would highly recommend Prof. Gupta to anyone from math nerds to those afraid of math.
I can't express how much I love Prof Gupta & his class! He's an AMAZING teacher. I never understood Calc until him. He explains everything thoroughly. He gives reviews. His wrkshts/quizzes are exactly like the test. Go to his tutoring/office hours. He'll do everything he can to help you. Final was the easiest of all exams. If you try youll get an A
Took his 8 week Calculus Class. Hardest class I've ever taken. I'm a straight A student and did not pass the class. Nice guy but very tough grader. Too much material in too little time and does not explain things well. Took 3A the next semester with a different professor and got an A. If you care about your GPA, AVOID!
A fair teacher is taking care if his issues on a professional level. Not over everyone. It's sad to be so smart and at the same time so childish.
He is the best MATH teacher EVER !! He's genius and I enjoyed every little thing about his class
I took his hybrid class 3A3B this semester and he was great in 3A. However for 3B something happened with him. He have began to take out his personal issues over his students. His test is so long that no one is finishing them. You don't belive me ask around. The nice friendly Gupta is gone.
I love you Gupta your are amazing and the most wonderful, genius and lovely professor I have ever had. I can't wait to see you again. I wish if i can continue all my life in classes with you. You gave me different perspective to solve problems in math .lovely standford guy.
Do the HW everyday! If you try your best, you will get the grade you deserve. Gupta is very kind and helpful. He really cares about his students (if they are willing to work hard) He held extra office hours before every test just to help us do better. I'm very grateful that I had the opportunity to have him as a teacher :) I will miss him a lot!!
Math WIZARD! Don't take Gupta if you are easily offended, however if you have a twisted sense of humor you may really enjoy his class. I will say, in order to pass his class you must DRAW THE PICTURE and READ THE BOOK!
The best teacher in the world, acts as if he doesn't care about his students but he really really REALLY does. He is smart , funny, fair and really helpful. I am really gonna miss him.
he really is an expert in getting your attention in class. it is hard to zone out in his class. he knows how to teach and how to make you pay attention so that you learn. he gives many examples for each section, enough to prepare for the exams. exams are everything he tells you in class so LISTEN TO HIM cuz he won't lie about what to prepare for.
Gupta is by far the best math professor ever. I took the accelerated course, which is do-able. 3A in 8 weeks is a breeze, 3B in 8 weeks is a little tougher but possible. DO ALL YOUR HOMEWORK. re-do all hw and finish review sheets before exams and you will get an A. Gupta made me love math. If 4A was required for my major i would take him for sure.
Calculus isn't easy but Gupta definitely makes it better. Do your homework and practice a lot and you should do fine like any other math class. He grades fair and lets you know what to expect. The lectures somehow go by very fast. His notes are THE BEST and no other professors notes will ever compare. Also, don't use your phone in class.
I'm taking Gupta's class off reccomendation and it is not what I expected. He is not nice at all if anything cynical. His tests are hard and filled with way to many sections each. His notes are good but it goes by so fast that he should provide notes online I could print and follow in class. There are no breaks making the class hard to sit through.
Not taking Gupta because you're afraid of a hard class is a mistake. Yes he expects a lot from you and you will never work harder for an A in your life but he truly cares about his students and does everything to help them succeed. He is a once in a life time professor. Certainly something you have to experience for yourself to understand.
Gupta yells at people.
Horrible.
I've never worked this hard in a class, but Gupta makes a 10 unit class as easy as you can. LISTEN to him, he will try as much as possible to make it clear what will be on the test. Stay on top of the reading and homework. Also, study the practice exams. If you put in the effort, it isn't too hard to get an A in the course. And.. draw the picture!
He taught like 5 classes this term. He was overworked and on autopilot for most of the semester. He seems like he cares but he runs out of patience now to explain things. I think he might be good but he was not what he was hyped up to be.
Took him both semesters for Math 3A and Math 3B. 3A was much easier than 3B, but either way, Gupta makes you work for it. Get ready to study and practice. His lectures are awesome and his notes are like no other. He's always there to help you during office hours or after class. He's very personable and funny. 3B was hard, but I would take him again
He is a very smart guy. Knows his materiel inside and out. Make sure to listen very carefully at his lectures and dont ask stupid questions because he will make fun of you for it. his tests are not that hard as long as you study but study smart. he will give quizzes but they are easy. definitely recommend him
I want to thank the math department in Irvine Valley Collage for hiring responsible person like this professor .Imagine that he adores his work the way that he doesn't cancel any class or give any brakes in . His lecture as calculus class is very important make sure to attend every single lecture and study after it ,and I promise the A for you.
The best mathematician in America.
Great professor seriously.I learned how to solve math problems confidentialy
Gupta's lectures are very engaging and really gave me a new sense of appreciation and understanding of calc. He is incredibly knowledgeable; watching him solveprove things and come up with problems on the spot was amazing. Truly a quality professor and you'll get a good laugh from him during class. Take good notes & practice, practice, practice.
Gupta definitely is one of the best teachers at IVC. He manages to teach the material perfectly while at the same time being absolutely hilarious. However, if you don't like to be picked on then avoid this class.
he is one of most knowledgeable professor i have ever met. I thank god for taking him. he is amazing. simply, he is a math miracle. if you want to enjoy math and really learn it take him
So, essentially, Gupta is probably one of the best teachers I have ever had - he KNOWS calculus, wrote his own book for it (and hands it out for you), and makes class fun. He will answer questions if you ask them, but I found that no matter what you DO ask, be prepared for him to make you feel like an idiot. Btw, I got an A. He's a good teacher.
The ratings are true-Gupta really is that good. When he first walked into class I thought he was a student! His ability to articulate the material clearly while also being funny is amazing.
Gupta's the best! Honestly my favorite professor! If you're on his bad side might as well drop the class.
If there is one god, it is Gupta! But seriously, he is the best math teacher you will ever take- 3 in 1 (hilarioius, caring, and motivating)- and it is exactly why I have committed my entire life in serving him as his biggest fan! I AM YOUR BIGGEST FAN, GUPTA!
He is my favorite teacher I have ever had. This class is not easy, but if you work hard and do all of the homework, you will get an A. His lectures are entertaining and funny. He gives you the materials you need to succeed, you just have to use them.
Gupta is an entertaining teacher who tries to make class as manageable as possible, because calculus is obviously a hard class to understand. What I'm kind of eh about is the fact that you read the assigned chapter of HIS book, go to class and do a wksht while he checks hw. I always feel as if depending on his mood he'll decide to teach the lesson.
the worst teacher on earth, he can't teach high level classes all students dropped him in 3B and i should not take him for 4A, Castraconde is what better than him and there are many professors now in Irvine valley collage better than him
You will never find another such talented professor as Prof. Gupta at IVC. His lectures are amazing; and he is always here to help students with enthusiasm. More importantly, through this course, I am now more confident with the upcoming upper-division courses. Never regret to enroll in Gupta's classess.
Gupta did not care about students anymore this semester and has gone over the book too quickly. He did not devote any time for doing some practice problems, and he surprisingly was fluctuating in his methods of evaluation in the coarse. I was expecting to learn much from him, as everyone said; but I have gotten out empty-handed. Not a good class.
Easily the best teacher I have ever had up until this point. As long as you show him that you are determined and motivated, Gupta will hold your hand (despite what he says). He is a little sassy, but that's because he actually cares about his student's grades. He really knows what he's talking about. And did I mention he also wrote the calc book?
Best math prof you will ever have. He taught a lot of extra cool things for the honors class, so if you're into math, I would really recommend it. Lecture with Gupta is always fun, but make sure to take the work seriously if you really want to earn his respect. Use office hours and don't be taken aback when he roasts you. Everyone's a victim. :)
Sanjai is the man! Let's be honest, this is calculus 1 and 2 so of course its going to be hard. That's not his fault it's the course's fault. He will help you with anything that you need help in and is a very fair grader on tests. He makes his own tests each semester and gives his past tests to use as study guides (very helpful). Smartest man @ IVC
I loved his class.
not recommended , this class needs someone who is ready to answer your questions and a prof who knows his stuff
He's a great guy. The subject is hard itself so don't expect it to be easy. His lectures are very clear and he encourages thought and question NOT just the automatic answer, which is unique for professors. Use his office hours and the math center. Be diligent, work hard, and you will be fine. Otherwise, prepare for some tears.
He's the star of this campus
He is the god of math in IVC. Love you Sanjai
not as great as the reviews make him out to be. you're way better off taking castroconde or anyone from saddleback instead if you want a clearer understanding of calculus in general
Very 1st math class I took at ivc. I regretted taking accelerated Math 3A and 3B w/ him so I wish I've known better what to expect. if you want to do well in accelerated calculus you'd either have to sacrifice your other grades just for this class OR are better off taking math 2 which i never took before. :( Although hes quite approachable in class
Gupta is one of the best professors I have taken at IVC. His lectures are very clear and easy to follow. There is a lot of homework and you have to work for the grade you want, but he will go out of his way to help. Replaces the lowest test grade with the final, and sends old exams so you can study. Would take again if I wasn't transferring out.
worksheets are impossible to complete, it takes over 4 hours to complete them in class, Recommended for those who get A's in math without even trying at all
As always, Professor Gupta is definitely one of the best at IVC. He gives amazing lectures which are easy to be followed. Exams are easy which comprises of simple calculations and some basic proofs. Strongly recommend him for the others!
Simply the best and most effective professor I have ever had. He not only strives for you to understand the subject, but also how to study and prepare for it. The homework and quizzes are just to make sure you're keeping up with the material. He is truly the STAR of the campus. You would regret not taking him at least once- what an experience!
He takes the time to make sure you understand YOUR question. Teaches you how to be a good student, so you fall back on good habits. Taught me to be careful and how to speak in correct mathematical language. Lots of laughs in this classroom, keeping the subject of an accelerated math class funny. Attend his office hours and workshops, GUPTA IS GOD
All good rates coming from people who they are taking advantage of him. I regretted for taking his class. All my other friends who took Math with other teachers are better than me .he doesn't know how teach math 4A at all .it's panic to pay all your money for tutors . My first and second calculus classes I got As without this headache. Avoid him.
Got an A, but this class was too much emotional and mental stress. Gupta doesn't explain certain concepts clearly. He's a nice guy and gives you many opportunities to redeem yourself, but he is a VERY tough grader. Would never recommend. He also gets angry a lot, slams doors, and yells a lot. Also, DO THE HOMEWORK
He is one of the best professor I've ever had! He is very nice and helpful. If you pay attention to his lecture, study his notes, and do the homeworks you are gonna be fine! I took my math 3A, 3B and 24 with different professors at saddleback and IVC. I can say professor Gupta is the best professor and fair grader!
I took 3A over summer so it moved really quickly and was tough, but soo worth it to take with Gupta -- I've never learned so much in one math class! He def tests your algebra skills, but it's good for you. The key to doing well is actually asking questions every time you don't understand, redoing the examples in the notes at home, and doing the hw!
I took Prof. Gupta's summer course for Math 3A. It was accelerated (only 8 weeks), but I learned more than I have in any other math class in my life. He encourages accountability by quizzing you on the homework. Go to lecture, do the homework, and study practice exams. You'll do fine. He's my favorite professor at IVC. Gupta is the best!
I took Gupta's accelerated 8 week 3A course and am currently taking his 3B course, and I could not be happier. He is funny, entertaining, and a great professor overall. He is very intelligent and wants his students to succeed. I would highly recommend taking him. My number one tip would be to always do the homework, even when he is not checking it!
Almost every student who can take him again probably will take him again. Simply fantastic lecturer. Has a very sassy sense of humor and a very high expectation of students. Extremely helpful during office hours
calculus wasn't math that i understood but rather memorized for the most part. The material is heavy but Gupta goes through it somewhat easily. He make you work for your grade but is very fair and offers lots of extra credit. He is hilarious. Go to his office hours! Make sure you read the book(which is super affordable). course goes by very quickly
the easiest A and math class i have ever had in my life. if you do not like math choose him for an easy A . there will be stress but you can not find easy math prof like him
Professor Gupta is the best professor I have ever had. He makes a normally hard subject very approachable, and truly cares about his students. His lectures are extremely clear and fun, and his tests have no surprises. His office hours are really helpful. You'll have to take good notes and study, but it is very possible to get an A in both classes.
Professor Gupta is the best professor I have ever had. He has an amazing and interesting lecture with good sense of humor. He really cares about his students and helpful during office hours. He does't check homework, but if you do your homework and do not procrastinate it, you can definitely do a good job on the exams.
Very childish, emotional, and heavy modswings with aggression.
worst teacher ever jump over steps don't know the subject so well everything is memorized from his side. If you ask him a question outside of his own problem than good luck to get a correct answer. Also he favorites students don't look at the good rating. There are so many other teacher so choose from DON'T TAKE HIM.
He is just phenomenal! If you want to learn and get rewarding for your work, TAKE HIM! He may seem tough, but has a huge heart. You will learn and he will guide you all the way. He grades nicely. Trust me, you won't regret it. I'm not a nerd who studies a lot, but put in a decent effort, pay attention, respect him and you will succeed. BEST TEACHER
3A is kindof a weed-out class, so if you're someone who doesn't do homework or study, you should pick a major that doesn't require 3A and above. As for Gupta, he's incredibly passionate, phd from Stanford and all of his jokes and antics are funny ways to get everyone engaged. If you actually study and do the hw, then you will get an A! Worth it.
very tough grader comparing to his way to teach math . you need to memorize not to understand in this class . it never works for me because math about understanding not memorizing at all .find another prof if you need math for your major
Very tough professor. However, definitely manageable. Incredibly well educated with a PHD from Stanford. He teaches really well, and is passionate about the subject making the class fun as a whole. Incredibly tough exams, but justifiable with the examples and study guide he gives. As long as you're not lazy and study his notes, you will get an A.
He's a one of a kind teacher, you either hate it or like it. He speeds through the lectures but slows down to to make sure you understand the small details. Thanks to him I will never forget the product rule, friends take turns. Ill never quite understand why he always asks us to find the volume of region D. A++ teacher
The best math teacher I have ever met. Lectures will help you deepen the understanding of chapters that you have to read prior to the class everyday. He is eager to help you ace the material, but you MUST LISTEN and read carefully. DON'T BE LAZY and practice solving problems everyday. Keep track of your weaknesses to the material and you'll get As.
I don't even know why I'm leaving this review, everyone knows he's the best math professor. He truly cares and his lectures are hilarious and he's overall a very caring and intelligent person. If your major consists of math, take him. If you hate math, take him.
A unique, funny, and strict professor. Fast and great lectures. Read notes, go to office hours, practice, and you will receive an A in his class. you WILL learn in that class, which makes tests not difficult. Don't be a smart ass, and he won't roast you every class session. If you major is STEM, take him, it is a must. Also, TURN OFF YOUR PHONE!
I look Gupta for calc 1, 2 & 3. Just finished calc 3 with him with B. Harvard masters/Yale phd. The smartest teacher you will ever meet. I am so thankful that with his credentials he is at Irvine valley college. I have never learned so much in my life. If you want to be able to tutor or master all math topics, take this professor. Thank u Gupta!!
This is a very difficult class regardless of who is teaching it. Gupta does an amazing job at making sure all of his students understand everything covered in lecture. He expects you do all of the homework and all of the previous exams provided to you which homework is on average 40 problems. If you put in the work you'll get an A.
Honestly, this man has made me love school all over again. I never hated math but I didn't love it either. One semester with Gupta and I questioned whether I should change majors. He doesn't mind answering stupid questions. Makes you love math. He's very interactive which keeps you focuses and entertained. Can be moody but still worth it.
Professor Gupta is the best professor period. He is able to notice if you are struggling on a certain topic by just simply reading your body language or facial expressions. He will call you out an make it a point to understand the material. I have average a B in all of my math classes here at IVC. I left Gupta's Calc 2 class with a high A. "GOAT"
Absolutely hate this class. There are so many easier professors out there. He's so worried about the small details, he doesn't teach the basics of what we are doing. Also his mood swings are bad. He's nice at one point then flips out the next, he's unstable at best. He does give out old tests and worksheets, but he refuses to answer any of the prob
I absolutely LOVE Gupta!!! I wish I needed more math because I want to take him again! He really loves his job and cares about his students! I learned more than math in this class. He teaches valuable life lessons. If you have a large ego this class isn't for you lol. DONT TALK BACK you'll never win. Gupta is the best. I'm sad this class is over!
Gupta is a good professor. math 4A or 3C(they are the same) is a hard course. you need to put a lot of time reading lecture a few times and doing homework's. i'm telling you, if you want success you got to do the homework and think about the questions.
Gupta is an amazing professor. He makes sure you understand everything that will be on the exams. He gives worksheets that are very helpful as well as the old exams to prepare for the exams. His office hours are a great place to ask more questions however they do get pretty full with students in his other classes.
Gupta is an amazing teacher and makes it very clear what you need to do to succeed. He can be a bit moody, so participate in class (only if you know the answer) to keep him happy and lecture will be great. His notes are fantastic, don't even bother with the book. Never a dull moment in his class.
Gupta is an amazing professor. Hes very nice and helpful and makes you love the math again! His lectures are very clear and understandable. Im really said this class is over!
Took Gupta for 3A, 3B, and 24. He instilled a sense of inspiration, confidence, and love of math in me. I learned how to work hard and believe in myself academically from him. His lectures are the best of any college professor I have ever had. Gupta cares deeply about his students. Truly a gem of a professor that I will always remember.
Gupta is an amazing teacher but you have to be willing to put in a lot of time and effort to succeed in his class. Calc is not an easy subject, but Gupta does his best to help you understand the material and in exchange he just begs you to read the textbook before class and put in your hard work. I would love to take him again if I can.
Hes the best instructor Ive ever had in college. Hes very nice, caring and organized. He loves to see his students succed and makes the class fun and enjoyable. His class is easy if you put the desirable work. Highly recommend!
Not an easy class. He's a good teacher but he goes pretty fast. He's nice one on one but gets frustrated with the class very easily. Don't just study the notes, you have to do the worksheets, look through the textbook and do the homework to do well in the class. Don't expect to get away with doing the bare minimum. Just try and you'll be fine.
Took his 3A 3B 8 week courses. Usually got Bs in math but got As in his class. He not only teaches you math but how it applies in the real World. Extremely funny and excellent guy. What a guy.
3 tests that are 22 percent each. The tests are much easier than the hw also if you do bad on one test you can replace it with your final which is 29 percent. MAKE sure to do well on the final and DO ALL HW PROBLEMS and this should be a somewhat easy A.
PROS - lectures are informative, captivating, and fun - exams are very similar to worksheet and textbook questions - good at answering questions - hilarious, makes good jokes - homework is optional CONS - goes a bit fast when lecturing - homework is optional, but hard to do well on exams w/o doing the homework
Funny but sometimes gets very angry and frustrated when people don't understand the topic. He's eccentric. Lots of EC (EC is 0 or 100% credit though). HW isn't due but DO IT because it will help you w/ tests. Skips over the basics of lessons. No credit for correct process but wrong answer & have to draw pictures often to get credit for problem.
Gupta is very passionate about math and he understands if you dont have the same affection for it but he does expect you to at least respect the subject. You do the work and it'll reflect in your results. This means read the book before class, have meaningful and clarifying questions, and doing the homework for your own benefit. very clear criteria
I'm just adding more to his wonderful reviews. He's dedicated and personable, amicable and loving. He taught new techniques that cannot be found anywhere else that makes you an effecient calculus machine. Love him
Gupta helped me realize that I can do math. I only took Calc because I was forced to do it by my major and I've always hated math but Gupta helped me become comfortable with math. I'm surprised I even ended up with a solid B in both classes and I got a C in Math 2. I did have to spend a lot of time for his class though.
If math does not come easily to you,I do not recommend this professor. Very short temper. Very difficult to talk to outside of class, belittles you for asking for help. Tests are everything in the class and your grade is completely dependent on them. Offers extra credit but it is impossible to solve given the time strain to complete the actual test
Best math teacher I've ever had. He's hilarious during lectures, but also a phenomenal teacher. He explains everything super clearly. Your grade consists of tests only, so be sure to study. Not an easy A but very manageable if you put in the effort. Read his book ahead of time. Such a great professor, I actually enjoyed a calculus class. Take him.
If you pay attention in class, do (some of) the homework, and go to his office hours when you have questions then you should be able to get an A
Gave four exams, final exam grade replaced lowest exam grade if higher. Has notes for purchase better than course's textbook. Homework not required; i didn't do it; i failed; do the homework! Understands math at deep level and as a second nature. He is a highly skilled teacher, has a great personality, and truly cares. Take his classes.
Honestly the best and funniest professor ever. He really tries to help everyone so that they can succeed in his class and gives some extra credit. If you go over his notes and do optional hwk problems from the tb then you should be fine if you keep practicing. Show up to class for participation points. Grades test really fast sometimes.
So I took Danufsky for 3A and 3B and decided to try Gupta this time. I liked Gupta, but I'm not sure if it was because I took him late at night, or his teaching style wasn't for me. Danufsky was very clear on everything and a lot more straightforward on what we should know. Gupta made us work, but he was very intelligent. I would recommend.
Do NOT take him for MATH2. He usually teaches higher level math courses so he expects you to learn precalc easily. He belittles those that ask simple questions. Save yourself and ONLY take him if youve already MASTERED precal. There is no hw, isnt strict on attendance, and grade is based on 4 tests. Study worksheets for tests. He is VERY proud.
Gupta teaches and grades for understanding first. If you're really trying for a deep conceptual knowledge of math, he's your best bet. However, if you just need to knock out a math class, and don't want to deal with his temper and/or weird sense of humor (I thought it was fine), there might be better options.
This teacher is just LEGENDary ;) Homework papers are given but he never collects them for homework. You'll get 3 tests and 1 final. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. His exams are really not that hard. His problems go in the order of what lessons he's taught. Buy his book instead of the "recommended book" Memorize the integral chart!
The homework is not mandatory, but you need to do it if you want to do well
Best! His lectures might seem heavy but exams are extremely doable tho his extra credits are like mission impossible
Great Teacher, but his class really isnt easy. you have to work for an A. However, he'll prepare you very well for your next couple of math classes
Gupta is Legen (wait for it, wait for it) DERY! He's the absolute best! HW not required but u should do them, he's fun and knows a lot about math. Teaches fast, tests are not hard if you study, no quizes and drops the lowest score. He also has his own book
He Does not teach at all, has a accent and most importlany during this COVID-19 he never responded to students emails which is very very bad upon this professor in particular. Gives tests with questions out of the lectures and not even taught in class. Very bad decision to take for calc or any math class. Avoid at all costs.
Prof. Gupta is an incredible lecturer. His strong educational background definitely reflects in his teaching. His voice is very engaging and his added jokes and sound effects prevent his lectures from being boring. The class goes very fast, so do your homework and listen during the lectures so you dont have fall behind. Would highly recommend.
This course is hard in general. His notes are well organized, and he sort of judges you harshly for not understanding something to the point where it's embarrassing in front of the class. He answers questions during office hours and lectures well, though. Make sure to do homework and watch the lectures as this class isn't an easy A.
Professor Gupta is very well versed in math which is evident in his in-depth lectures. He incorporates examples from the outside world that allow differential equations to seem relatable. Although the class material can be difficult at times he makes the material accessible. There were suggested problems every week with a midterm and a final.
Gupta may get slightly upset when no one knows the answer to a problem or definition. But it is clear that he does this only because he truly cares about the understanding of the class. On good days, Gupta will bring a ton of fun and exciting energy to the lectures. During office hours, Gupta will patiently walk you step by step through problems.
Gupta made online learning joyful. Even though 4A was super intimidating switching to 3-D graphs, he made me want to go to class. He asks a lot of questions and encourages participation, which I personally dislike. I'd rather use that time to go over more examples, but he was still a really good teacher. Taking him again for 24 and 26.
Grading harder but giving us take home midterms w 24-48 hours to complete. Encourages collaboration for midterms and worksheets. Weekly worksheets. Asks a lot of questions to open discussions which is super time consuming, but ultimately positive. So many resources, easy A if you just collaborate or go to OH. Also, he's fun and loud.
This class is super conceptual. The only math you do is basic Algebra (I). Get ready to whip out your flashcards because class is 90% definitions and analyzing using definitions. Worksheets and midterms are graded super hard because he wants us to understand the definitions. Required to be super detailed in written responses. He actually teaches!
Great prof.
Gupta is a great professor and very friendly. Material could be taught in a more student-friendly way avoiding abstract concepts but the class itself is pretty simple. There's two tests and several worksheets and everything is open-collab which makes it super easy to learn.
He was such a good teacher. His tests and homework are based on lecture notes. The textbook isn't really necessary but it's helpful. His office hours are fine and you can ask him homework and lecture questions.
Amusing lectures and very understanding of students, very clear lectures and step by step process of deduction, easy to understand
Professor Gupta is honestly my favorite professor at IVC. Rather than pushing the definitions on you, he shows you where different ideas come from and how to prove them using ideas that you've developed previously. He encourages students to ask questions so they can further their understanding of the material, and he is very supportive. 100% rec'd
Gupta is the GOAT, easily the best math prof at IVC. His lectures are incredibly helpful, and he wants his students to succeed. Over the summer we had 10 worksheets which we had 2-4 days to complete working together with classmates. Midterm and final were take home and collaborative. If you have the chance to please take him.
the absolute BEST professor in IVC. He goes over every concept in detail and wants students to succeed so he explains every question students have with detail. Take his class's if you wanna actually LEARN and succeed!
TAKE HIS CLASS! 3B MATH24 MATH26, HE IS SO CARING AND NICE! As long as you learn all the materials in the class, you should be fine with the exams. He is not making the exams difficult, he just wants you to least learn something after taking the class.
GOAT, GMTOAT, GPOAT
Best Professor at IVC. Semester was easy because it was moved to online. Professor wanted just wanted students to learn something. It was a free A, and I improved from my weaknesses from 3A prior. Although the difficulty will be higher moving forward, Professor Gupta genuinely cares and wants to help his students the best way possible.
Professor Gupta's lectures are extremely clear and he will take the time to clarify any doubts. He is extremely accessible outside of class and cares for his students.
If you're a math major take Gupta. He is an exceptionally erudite mathematician and works harder than other professors to ensure you're learning everything that you need to know about the material. Gupta also holds a doctorate from Stanford, so that should leave you no doubts about his understanding of what is being taught.
Great Professor! Really Smart! Good Strategies. There was a few times felt very uncomfortable for some words that were said very fast Very Honest Professor I learned new things I never knew about. Slightly recommended but not yet, more in the future would have a higher recommendation "Maturity" and more Professorish.
Probably one of the most entertaining classes I've taken at IVC, he is very smart but still tries to relate with the class and doesn't have a radiating superiority complex like many super-smart professors do. Highly recommend taking his class.
Gupta will give you precisely as much as you give him. If you tend to treat your professors like a search bar and don't think thoroughly about your questions before you ask them, then Gupta is not for you. Be attentive, ask intelligent questions, and think deeply about the material - this is how you get the most out of his class.
Gupta is amazing. He actually wants students to learn. He is receptive to fed back and overall an amazing professor
One of the best profs at IVC. I took him Fall 2021, and he told me he won't structure his class the same way in the future, but he is crazy smart and an excellent lecturer. The only way NOT to get an A in his class is pure negligence. He will give you everything you need to understand math and earn an A. This applies to all his math classes too.
I would absolutely take Professor Gupta again. I took him for Math 24 and 26 in Spring 22. He is one of those professors that really wants students to participate to grasp the material. He did a good job facilitating the transition from online to face-to-face in late Feb 2022 (we were online for the first 5 weeks due to the Omicron wave of COVID).
Gupta teaches in a way you'll have fun solving math problems. He does get frustrated when no one answers his questions, but it is justified because that might make him think that he didn't do a good job with his lectures which is not true at all. It is very clear that he loves math and teaching. He is not strict with exams or hw.
GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!!! Made the class so much fun and was ready to help out student all the time. You will get everything you will put into the class. Work hard than you will get an amazing grade. Mr. Gupta will help you in anything you need if you just put in the time.
Gupta might just be the best IVC has to offer. He's an outstanding mathematician and teacher that inspires you to put a 110% into his class. His classes are funny and interesting, and honestly, one that you'd probably look forward to attending every time. If you had the chance to take Gupta, take him, you won't regret it.
Gupta is an engaging and smart professor, he a little crazy but in a good way. Do hw, study, read, and don't use symbolab.
Took him because of the good reviews. WORST PROFESSOR EVER. Quizzes every class (+ exams), and he talks SUPER fast, so it is hard to understand the lectures. There are no extra credit opportunities, every mistake adds up. I love math but hated this class. It seems like he just wants to get too much info out there as quickly as possible, which sucks
His lectures are engaging and creative. I used to not care about math until I actually understood the beauty of math, and Gupta represents that in class. His view on math is creative and I'm greatly inspired by him. Every time I attend class, I feel so superior from all the knowledge I gain. Sign up for this guy if you are about learning.
Gupta is a great professor but the exams seem pretty hard but I'm taking Honors, however overall professor is just great, although I may not take him again due to the difficulty level, however I think he is the first professor I actually want to do well in a math class for. Office hours is a must btw! Also get the his textbook very helpful to use!
Professor Gupta is very knowledgeable and has high expectations. overall, the class is quite difficult and requires you to constantly practice, however he wants everyone to actually learn and encourages students to participate in class. To put it simple, if you care more about learning math than your grade, then this professor is for you.
Nobody at IVC can teach like him. He knows both the material and how to communicate it to his students on such a deep level that I can't communicate it properly through text. If you want to learn how to think, you'll love him. There's so much to say about him...! but the 350-char limit grabs at my throat. He's just the best teacher I've ever had.
Professor Gupta is one of the best that I've seen. He made Multivariable Calculus fun and interesting! Do the HW if you want to be successful in this class. And the practice problems that he posts on Canvas.
He's a really amazing professor. Don't expect to just get by without doing any work though. His class is meant for you to learn and if you're afraid to ask questions or seek his help during office hours if you're struggling then you're going to fail. He makes the classes super fun and interesting, and if you can't handle a roast don't be in there.
He's an amazing teacher, honestly the best math teacher I've ever had. If you take him, be ready to STUDY, like a lot. He taught me how to break my own limits, but that comes at a price. I ended with an 'A' because I studied every day for this class. It's really up to you, you really determine your own grade in his class. Take him if you can!
Really knowledgeable and a great professor. Get ready to dive into the proofs of everything and conceptualize the formulas given instead of mindlessly memorizing formulas. He is one of the professors that really made me start seeing the beauty of mathematics which is impressive because I used to hate math so much. Really recommend
Professor Gupta is a teacher you hope to get if you are interested in pursuing Mathematics or anything within the Stem field. His passion rubs off on you and he teaches as if it was his first time learning calculus. It really feels like Gupta goes the extra mile that other professors won't. He's really mean if you don't listen though, but so valid.
3 exams, 1 final. Homework not graded but if you don't do it you will not do well. Doesn't give the answers to everything and wants students to figure it out themselves. Occasionally gives extra credit for "intellectual curiosity". Tests are pretty fair and contains content covered in class or in lecture notes. Find a friend to check answer with!
One of the top 2 most intelligent and witty professors I have ever had. He values learning and the quality of your education above all else, and his tests are generally relatively easy. Incredibly knowledgeable about math and a great teacher. 100% recommend him for any class.
The lectures are mostly amazing. We ran out of time and there were a lot of difficult materials squeezed in the last few days before the final. The exam questions are fair. They are based on practices and examples covered in lectures except for around 1 question out of 20. It will be very helpful to find a friend to correct practices together.
Take 4A during the summer. The class is very test-heavy and have to pay a lot of time. Do the homework, lecture questions, and go to office hours which are REALLY helpful. The last two units were in a rush due to limited time. The professor is very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. Get extra problems for not turning off phones.
Literally one of my favorite professors of all time. I absolutely loved him and he was HILARIOUS. Math3A was quite difficult, but if you put in the time you can manage. Extremely helpful during office hours. That is where I got most of my work done and understood everything the most. He is willing to work one on one with you if you need help.
better than any professor I have had at my 4-year university. GOAT.
Literally one of my top profs of all time. Tough professor but you will walk out with a genuine understanding of the topics taught
GUPPY THE GOAT. you're gonna work hard but you will learn. Gupta made me like math
Professor Gupta is the goat. Tough class but he makes it easier to pass. He makes funny faces and comments to help people remember topics. He has office hours all day for one day a week. His book is great and only costs the low low price of 39.95. He gives a lot of extra credit. Side note I never learned the unit circle and still got an A.
Late review;took this class during summer 2023. He was absolutely incredible, but if you are easily offended, do not take him. He makes fun of students, but he always means well. No attendance, but attending lectures is basically a must. You will like learning math from him, even if you dont like math, and do practice problems.
Amazing lectures. The grade is 100% exams, but his exams are easy if you do the homework.
Genuinely the GOAT. He provides you with all the resources you need to succeed and is accessible outside of class. Attendance is not required, but you won't do well if you miss his lectures.
Pretty easy class. Tests were very similar to the homework and Gupta is a very knowledgeable and entertaining professor.
This was gupta's second time teaching Discrete Mathematics. Honestly, in my opinion, he was a mid professor at best. More than half the class wouldn't show up to class as attendance isn't taken and most agreed that we learned better on our own by using Youtube or by reading the book than by listening to his unclear lectures.
By far one of the best math professors I have ever had. He makes it very clear on the first day of class what's the expectation and what's needed to be done in order to pass the class. Lectures are not boring, as it gives insightful information on the exams. wink wink. Do all homeworks, as it's a staple to pass the class as well. wink wink.
Gupta is probably one of the funniest professors I have had at IVC. Success in Discrete Math can be achieved easily by just doing the homework. Gupta doesn't force the class to do extra work and goes out of his way to help his students get better grades. If you want to learn more talk to him, he is very knowledgeable.
Best math professor. Exams are based on HW. His lectures are truly inspirational to those who actually wanna learn math. There is an EC on each exam. If you do the HW, you're good to go!
Gupta deserves all the respect he gets. During lecture, says "You guys are the future" and his teachings back that statement up. Can reteach fundamentals of math if students don't get it. Exams and quizzes very fair and he can compromise with students if he feels he is unfair. Very down to earth professor; won't find anyone else like him at IVC.
Take his classes by any means necessary. You will not only succeed but you will be inspired. Simply the GOAT.
Very knowledgeable and is very engaging with his students. He does a great job at teaching the material at a high level while making sure that all his students understand. You do need to work for an A, but you learn a lot along the way. Would absolutely recommend if you're someone that wants to learn.
Professor Gupta is genuinely one of the best professors that I have ever had in my life. His ability to inspire and push you is something I never realized I needed. Without him I do not think I would like math as much as I do today. He truly is a once in a lifetime professor.
Funny in a very dry sarcastic way. Lectures are fun and interesting. He is only teachs bare minimum from textbook and spend most of class solving interesting related problem, and prompting students to come up with solutions to those problems. Tests are easy if you do the HW(which is short & not mandatory), some take home tests, really chill.
GUPPTTTTAAAA my actual favorite professor on this planet. Once you understand his material you'll rlly see how beautiful math is, made me almost become a math major. Took calc 3, linear, and DEs w him and would take more if I could. Take him and don't be intimidated at the beginning it gets better. (can u believe this man doesn't own a microwave..)
Unclear grading policy. Never updated any grade. Super fast lecture, couldn't finish note when he went to the next topic. There are 1-2 questions that he never mentioned in lecture but expect you learn by yourself. No extra credit, no curve, no partial credit on final. Need to be independent learning if you want to take this course.
Hardest I've ever worked for a grade, but goddamn am I a better person for it. His standards are scary high, but for good reason. Definitely learned the material in and out. Don't dare miss lecture. Don't come here to cope and seethe if you felt entitled to an A. Rare to come by an old school prof who is tough, fair, and also freaking hilarious.
Had a B the first half of the semester but started doing the hw and got an A. Honestly, if you do all the posted hw, you will get an A in this class. All the test questions were based on the hw except a few which are covered in lectures. Easy A if you actually pay attention in class and do hw. 😎-👍
While he may be erratic he cares about making sure students understand concepts, I feel like I have a good grasp on the material. You will have to try hard to do well on tests but that is just the nature of the class.
Lectures not mandatory, but amazing to attend. Distills the best information conceptually. If you can figure out the homework, you can figure out the tests. Tests were fairly easy, values critical thinking and conceptual understanding far more than repeating formulas. Generous grader and posts exams from past years on canvas.
He's the GOAT! Super knowledgeable and cares more about critical thinking rather than nasty computation. Attendance isn't required but is a must for his shortcuts in math. Grades are from exams, but final exam replaces the lowest one. DON'T take him if you are easily offended. I'll SCREAM this again: DON'T take him if you are easily offended.
His feedback was all over the place, would give you credit for answering questions in class you didnt deserve credit for and not give you credit when you did. Seems to be able to get kids to believe he's judging fairly when hes mostly just letting his mood decide what he thinks sounds good or not. The focus of lecture is not the material, its him
Dude knows his stuff but very aggressively puts down students who have any kind of disagreement with him to the point of sabotage. Dude is smart but forgets that his opinions are opinions. I got a 100% on the first exam and he still belittled me every day until i couldnt take it anymore, i had to drop for my sanity+my mental health is messed up bad
Gupta GOAT! His class was amazing, don't take him if you are offended easily. He would push me to speak up more in class, often in adamant ways. Very helpful though. His office hours are so helpful and attendance isn't mandatory but he teaches you these tricks in lecture that come up on exams often. GOAT math professor.
