worst professor ever. this class is impossible and he does nothing but confuse students. and he loves it
He requires a lot of his students and there is plenty of homework, but he is a VERY good teacher. If you do the course work, you'll get a lot of useful information from his class, and an excellent grade.
Difficult work, fun guy
This guy is amazing. He is very hard exam and homework wise, but you learn so much from him. He will literally help you until you understand it. Not many Professors will do that as they are busy, but even though his schedule is hectic, he will be there for you anytime you need him.
good teacher, but lot of work. take luther's classes if offered for same subject
really hard. most challenging. best classes i have ever had. i actually learned.
VERY tough....VERY intelligent...VERY demanding... You're not gonna coast by with this guy but you learn A LOT! Def not easy, but you def get your $ worth...
i have so much difficulty in this class... he confuses me so much and i dont understand what the hell is goin on in class.... :(
You will learn more in his one class than any other of your undergraduate. If you do the work class is easy.
very hard, not good with helping you with problems, tests are very hard and confusing
Incredible teacher, truly cares. If you do not keep up with work you will likely fail. Every, I mean every class MUST be attended. The most valuable coarse I have taken due to the professor.
This guy is great, no one has mentioned that he is a great advisor as well. He cares about his students from day one and long after the class, many times he told the students to email him and call him when they need help with future classes, graduate studies, and in our careers. He is a great professor and a great man. Dr. Jain makes SSC what it is
Excellent Professor, there is a considerable amount of workload, but if you do homework and read chapters the work is easy. Learned a lot from this class that is used in many other classes. Definitely recommend (expect if your are lazy to do work and attend every class)
Overal he was a good teacher but the class was very challenging! If you work after class forget about it now because you literally have to study for this class everyday. For someone who got an A in accounting & calculus, I found it very difficult. I felt like we flew through the material but the teacher definatly knew what he was talking about.
Watch out for his first tests it was a lot harder than I thought. Don’t miss any class or you will behind. His class is like riding a dragon fall behind and it's over.
Very Practical class, Also a very hard class. Some understand the material easily, many do not. He is straightforward, and tells you what it will take to pass the class and what will cause you to fail. I had to withdraw because I was taking 5 other classes and could not devote enough time to this class. Doctor Jain is a financial genius. Highly Rec
very demanding. You must be ready to work hard but he is a very nice guy. you get what you pay for. if you have many other classes, try taking his summer classes. they are the best and he makes the class lively, as in you long to go to class.
The best professor at Salem State!! He is very knowledgeable and prepared for every class. You have to attend every session and do all the reading prior to class. Pay attention to special details mentioned in class as they may be a bonus question on tests he gives. You learn real world stuff about mortgages, interest ...etc.
Just got through having the "pleasure" of being a student of this man for the second time. Teaches investment securities like a grad school class. I was looking forward to it too. That all changed. Unapproachable too, unless you want to be even more lost and feel like an idiot. Spends too much time on news and PPTs.Not enough time on the material
Teacher is really nice, however class is extreamly dificult, he moves very fast through subjects and test are nothing like I have ever seen before. He teaches as though you are in a grad class. I have heard that other profesors teaching this course move at a slower pase, and make it easier to understand the information.
I took his FIN322 and FIN464. I think he's an absolutely great teacher. makes you work very hard but you really learn in his class, the most i have in any other class in college. Hard but great guy and very worth it!
Great professor, wise, funny, tough but fair. If you want to lear - definitely take finance classes with him. He actually made me change my concentration to finance.
sanjay is a very smart and cool guy, great teacher and very interesting. there was alot of work, he makes you do all the hw problems at the end of each chapter and you basically have to if you want to do well on the tests. i usually sont like a lot of work but his teaching methods made up for that.
Should have listned to his ratings! Such a hard teacher, expects ways to much. He will teach you 5 ways to do one problem which in the real world the formulas are right there. Test are so long I never finished. As long as you do the reading and are prepared yo study your life away then ull do fine. However Can't complaine too much considering he passed me and no idea how
He's a really good professor who knows his stuff. He is hard and you really do have to do a lot of reading and a lot of work for the class, but if u understand his class an do well in it, you're all set for the following finance classes. He's really helpful and very funny and entertaining in class. I recommend him if ur a finance major!
Extremely hard professor. If you do not work or have any other classes and want t devote your life to studying for this class, then you will do ok. Expects you to read each chapter 3 times at least and answer all the questions in the back of each chapter at least 3 times.(there are about 60 questions each chapter.) Worst teacher ever had.
I took prof. Jain in the spring 2010. He is AWFUL! He doesn't care about the students, sure finance majors like him because he teaches up the class meaning if you are confused or are a beginner he goes so fast you get lost. I graduated with a 3.95 and dropped his course take it with Luther you'll be glad you did! He has no interest in teaching
not easy
Took FIN322 as a summer course..YIKES! He's a likeable person & extremely knowledgeable, but as a professor, he's very difficult. He has centuries of experience and expects newly introduced students to grasp it as easily as he does. Very frustrating, and I'm an A-B student! If you initially get it, you're good, if not, you're in for a rough ride!
worst teacher ever.
This professor loves the subject, is very clear in his expectations, and is very tough. If you aren't a good student don't take this class. If you are a good student and actually do your work don't worry. I took him in the summer and he expected you still spent as much time as you would during the regular semester. It was tough but not impossible.
Worst professor ever! DO NOT TAKE!
Toughest class I have ever taken. He is not kidding when he tells you during the first class that you need to spend 2 hours per night studying the material or you will be lost. If you show you are actually trying and tough it out, though, he does give you at least a LITTLE help when he writes up the final grades.
professor is hard and very demanding, however if you wanna learn the stuff he is the guy to teach to you
Nightmare! Avoid at all costs! He assumes or doesn't care that you are taking other college courses and/or work. Expects roughly 3 hours of studying outside of class everyday. Very unrealistic. Random quizzes and announced tests are ridiculously difficult. Took him as a senior because I had to, wish I saved myself the headache. Take anyone else
HARDEST CLASS I EVER TOOK. I withdrew last minute even tho my avg was a B- which tells you how demanding the course was. After spending 4 hrs studying every night, and having no clue how to go about the last few assignments, I crashed. This class will test any "smart" person's capabilities. I warn everyone to STAY CLEAR from this class
He is a nice guy, but a very tough grader. He teaches good life knowledge, but everything else you're on your own for. More than 70% of the class dropped this course, including me. It was not feasible doing the work for this class along with my other courses. I'd stay steer clear of this class.
He's unfair. He's so unfairly tough, he will give you trick questions on quizzes and tests. I only took him because he was the last one teaching the course I needed. Literally, take anyone else than him.
worst professor ever! Avoid wasting your time with him.
Basically paying for you to read the book, homework and quizzes do not reflect what will be on the test. He tries to trick you and seems to get enjoyment from it. I don't get the Guy but he does know his stuff, but expects you to be on his level with knowledgeability of the subject. He's a really hard professor, best of luck.
Wonderful professor, very patient and helpful if you put in the time. Is not always clear about the online assignments and the work he assigns is so difficult it almost looks foreign from what has been done in class. Hard class, but you will learn if you put the time in. Allows a 3x5 note card when taking exams with formulas only.
Hate hate hate his class! I dropped the class because I failed two test. IF you fail two test you fail the whole class. No change of extra credit or anything! The class started with 35 students now only 3 are still taking it. This is FallSpring class and should be taken as 1 course for the whole semester course because its THAT HARD!!!!!!!
Hate this class! I DROPPED the class because I failed 2 test, 2 tests 50% of your grade. He expects you to understand all the material he teaches after just one class. When I first started the class there was 35 people in it, after test #2, 32 people dropped the class because we got an F grade. This class and teacher are just THAT HARD!!!!!!
Sanjay Jain is the best business professor at Salem State. His class is very difficult but his teaching style is very effective. I've taken him for Real Estate and Investment & Security Analysis. I wish I could have taken him for more classes. If you are serious about business and finance take Professor Jain.
Professor Sanjay Jain knows what he is talking about. Sanjay knows finance, knows how to teach, gives good presentations and power points. The one thing he doesn't realize is that his students have other classes, other homework, other projects, Sanjay expects you to dedicate all your time to Finance. Good guy, but doesn't understand reality.
Don't take this class!!!
Skip this class if you can!!!
DO NOT TAKE. When it comes to the difficult stuff, he barely goes over it and does not show you how to do it. You need to teach yourself. Way too difficult for an intro to finance class.
His class is really hard. But if you put the work in and take good notes you will do fine. He does a great job at teaching FIN 301 and you can tell he's passionate about it. If you have a question he is more than willing to help you in his office hours. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PUT IN THE WORK TO LEARN DON'T TAKE HIM.
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken but I really did learn so much. I had him for Real Estate Finance and he lead an extremely interesting class. TOUGH, but interesting. Don't expect to coast through this class, assignments are tough and tests are tougher. I'd take another class from him though, I gained a lot of valuable knowledge.
Took him during a summer semester. It was the hardest class I've taken, but it was also very insteresting (if you like finance!) I took this class because I wasn't sure if I liked finance or not and he made me like it. Like I said, be ready to work hard.
Great professor. Explains finance really well. This class is not hard if you do the homework, read the chapters, and study for the test. It is simple math and the calculator does all the work for you, which Professor Jain explains how to use in class. Take this class only if you have a good work ethic. You will learn a lot from taking his class.
I am a hardworker and was prepared to put in the work, but professor Jain takes it too far. To boot, my mother was in the hospital and I missed the final, he ignored my emails, emails from my advisor and the dean, I couldn't takeit I failed the class. No respect for students. Knowledge about finance doesn't make you a good professor. DO. NOT. TAKE
I dropped the class also after the 2nd test with a 30 average. In my opinion this is not the professors fault. The class was mixed with Finance and Accounting majors and a few others outside the majors. He teaches to their level and the non majors are lost.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Ridiculous amount of work all of which you will get no feedback on and there is not any clear direction on how to do some of it. You will be required to maintain 2 portfolios, 5 paper, read WSJ and write about it, homework and reading. You will have no other life when taking this class. Tests is nothing like homewore
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Hardest professor I have ever had. You will not have a life when taking this class. His work load is heavy. Homework, Assignments, Portfolios, Quizzes, Tests, Exams will all be given in this class. He does not care about his students or if u need help. U will be left behind. He doesn't provide feedback either, he's a force.
He expects you to know that material to mastery. He sets an extremely high standard.
Great course if it is the only one that you are taking. He consistently arrives late and lies about everything. The finance with someone else.
Sanjay is a tough professor and he states is expectations at the beginning of the semester. Follow along, TAKE NOTES, and you'll pass. Participate in class and you'll be on his good side. I'd take him again.
great professor but the workload is insane
The subject matter is difficult and he moves quickly, so if you don't pay attention you will fall behind. If you do pay attention and take good notes then you won't have a problem.
I took his personal finance class my feshman year. I could barely understand him due to his very heavy accent. I would record the class and play it back slowly trying to interpet what he was saying. He knows what he is doing, but he is just not the teacher for me. I took PF in hs and did great. Dont skip or you will suffer take it from me.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken. The Professor wasn't as helpful as I would imagine him being, especially considering how much we pay to go to school. This is not a Principles class, it's terribly difficult and is geared more towards students whose concentration is in this area.
He is the worst teacher in the Finance program. He gives so much work due every single week as if his class is the only one that people take. If you can avoid taking him I would.
Awful professor, don't take this class.
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS. He has so many projects that he randomly assigns & provides no rubrics for projects. No due dates are ever clear & never grades work. Hes a nice guy - but he has 2 HW per week, 3 cumlative exams, and 2 HUGE projects due at the end of the year.
This professor expects a lot of you but this class is what you make of it. I did not read the book, I attended each Zoom meeting and began the homework while skimming the additional lectures he posted and currently have 100.63%. Incredibly helpful, each week I sent him a detailed email with my questions from the homework and he sent one right back.
if you have the ability of taking him or someone else, take someone else
Dr. Jain is an excellent instructor and will help you if ask, he will not let you felt unless you don't work hard enough. I have taking 4 courses with him and he is very knowledgeable. If you just want to pass the course not doing any work and I will recommend you not to take him but if you want to learn and succeed in your career, he can help you.
Gives lots of homework and expects you do even more questions on top of it to learn the material but refuses to post the answers or go over them in class.. After the class average for the first exam was a 60 with a 20 point scale i asked if there was a better way to study and he said just read the chapters 3-4 and do the practice questions.
After the class average was a 65 with a 20 point scale on the first exam. Someone asked what was the best way to study. Told the class to make sure you read the chapters 3-4 times along with doing every question at the end of the chapters. But then in class, he talks at you with nothing on the board saying pay attention this is not in the book.
Professor Jain is a very hard professor who cares about his work. Make sure to never miss one of his classes because you will not be able to make up the work and you will be lost. He gives quizzes throughout the semester and 3 exams. All he wants is for students to put in effort and learn. He does a good job in teaching and is easy to follow
Ive been with Sanjay freshmen year through graduate school. He is a horrible professor/person. I don't have enough characters to write my true option on him. Sanjay is completely out of touch with his students. Demoralizing experience. Don't miss a class/homework/lecture you will fall behind and its insurmountable. Terrible educator. Please beware!
If you actually want to learn the material and have time to do lots of homework, Sanjay is a great professor! Other wise avoid him like the plague You will not have time for all of his work if you work full time or have lots of outside commitments
Difficult course with high expectations from professor. However, if you do the work and pay attention you'll do just fine.
hard to avoid bur hardest professor you will have at salem state by far.
Does not give time for home works and quizzes, home work is very time consuming-- and will be due on weekends. If everything isn't so rushed it would've helped more. Acts like his students does not have any other important classes, always emphasizes how hard and how much effort is needed for Finance class. An okay person but bad/strict professor.
Do not take him unless it is your only class. Extremely work heavy and if you miss class you will be lost. Tough grader. Exams are not the even remotely same as homework. Disconnected with students. Preaches reading the book to understand material and does a horrible job explaining material in class. Class average is in the 60s. He doesn't care.
Great professor! This class is not hard at all when comparing to other classes he offers such as FIN 301 and FIN 366 besides the multiple choice on exam. Do all of the reading before class or you will won't understand the concepts. Exams for this class I will say are pretty hard because of the format he uses in multiple choice.
Very good lecturer, will make time to meet with you if you are struggling in class. Dr. Sanjay is very knowledgeable about Finance and Investing.
Hes so tough in grading! avoid him at all costs!
Intelligent
Very frenetic.
He knows what he is talking about, he cares about you learning, a lot of homework, though grader. very good person and professor, office hours, responds to emails but difficult homework, buy the financial calculator you need!
great professor amazing explanation, just need a lot of attention in class. he is one of the best professor I ever meet.
He is very kind, but his class is tough. My advice to you is to read the textbook, complete your homework on time, and practice with the math problems. The exams are a major part of your grade.
I like this professor! He really wants to teach students; he hopes you become outstanding! But when you select his class, your total courses in that semester shouldn't be more than 5. You need to spend time after class reading the book and going through the end-of-chapter solutions so that you can do well. Don't worry, this course has extra credit.
Professor is not engaged with his students. He does not reach out to students when they are struggling. You reach out and he takes days to get back, You do not get any of your work back and no feed back on your work except for a grade. You have no idea what you got wrong or how it was wrong or how to fix it for future papers.
His class I got an A+ in. I had to WORK for my A. Effort pays off. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Show him you are willing to put the effort in. He shows some leniency when you show him you care. I had a friend in the class that was about to fail, but he consistently went to his office hours and he passed him with a D.
