Teacher talks very softly and is impossible to hear.
horrible teacher
cannot teach, acts like he doesn't know what he's talking about, final from hell
Don't buy the optional book!

excellent teacher, made a difficult course easy
No Comments
Not a good teacher, but his class is easy if you try.
Very knowledgable and excellent teaching.
Great Teacher! Tough course
Learn the material yourself; don't bother attending class; he doesn't know how to teach
explains things very clearly
He seems incapable of teaching the material and doesn't even seem to grasp some of it himself.
fun class to have. very helpful
I suspect some of these good reviews were planted by Baskiar himself. In the classes I've had, he actually read the book to the class. the opposite of inspirational.
Hahaha, Baskiyar definitely planted some of these comments himself. He reminds me of Milton from Office Space with his mumbling and lack of tact in social situations. Class is easy, but don't expect to learn anything from him. He'll flip through the slides and skip over the ones that he doesn't even understand.
very good class very knowledgeable
good class
Best professor I had
Very easy coarse. Exams are easy if you get an old exam. He is a very nice guy to deal with. The homeworks are mandatory and extremely easy(most answer in back of book). Programming assignments can be bad, his example programs he shows in class doesn't work 90% of the time. Very boring class either worked on homework or played games during class.
Best professor I had at Auburn. He explained microprocessors clearly. Grading was fair and overall reasonable.
He is simply a superb teacher. I learned more from him than any of my other classes in Comp.
Seems to really care about students. Grading was fair.
This professor is excellent. He presents difficult to understand concepts in easy fashion. It was fun to see things work at low level.
In the beginning, it seems like a challenge, but he works with the class well. was a little difficult figuring out how to compile and run assembly programs at first, but afterwards, class was very manageable. baskiyar is helpful and will postpone work if he sees the class needs it. intimidating at first, but great teacher. I'd take him again.
Great instructor. Exceedingly helpful. Not overly demanding with work, but challenging enough that you learn.
Very interesting class. Focus on concepts. Clear explanations. HWs have moderate difficulty.
Scatterbrained. Class moves slowly and gets boring at times. Teaching style emphasizes basic principles but then HW/test questions focus on smaller details. Willing to wait several minutes for a student to produce an answer to questions in class rather than answer them himself. Scales. Do a project not a paper.
This course helped me land a job. Teacher is very helpful and accessible.
I learned everything about assembly in this class. Great instructor. Very helpful.
Very easy to understand
Dr. Baskiyar is a very nice guy, but it is clear that he is disconnected from the class. His lectures consisted of him reading from slides. He is generally unclear on what material will be tested on. Not a bad experience, but make sure to know the book.
Dr. Baskiyar is very organized and knows what he is talking about. You can get a good grade if you attend classes and do the work. Not too difficult, but still challenging. Clear explanations.
I wouldn't recommend taking him but if you do then you will just have to teach yourself. He takes attendance and his lectures are very difficult to pay attention to. Nice guy but I did not enjoy the class to say the least, I just got through it. Very Stupid final exam
Interesting class. Clear explanations.
After a semester of attending every lecture, I do not know a single thing about programming in assembly that I did not learn from the textbook. Baskiyar spends his lectures repeating information from previous classes while glossing over the content he is supposed to teach and provides no guidance on setting up an environment for testing programs.
If you do the homework you would be fine.
Useful
He mumbles, takes attendance, reads off of a powerpoint, speaks okay english, acts insecure, and stumbles through the material. He teaches you what things do rather than why or how they do it. Don't bother asking 'how' or 'why' questions. (he won't answer them) The lecture slides and past book editions are google-able, they're all you need to pass.
Just read the book and do the homework. You won't learn much, if anything, from the lectures, but they are good to keep you on pace. I only went to about half of the classes and was fine
The homework design was excellent. The grading was very fair. I liked the examples he gave in class. Baskiyar is a good teacher, but he does not allow laptops in class, which I did not like. Overall, he's a great professor.
He takes attendance because no one would attend his class otherwise since you can just read the slides yourself to understand the material he is teaching. The homework in his class is incredibly doable, and overall he doesn't expect a lot out of you in his classes. If he was a better lecturer he would be an ideal professor.
Lots of information
Slow moving and sporadic lectures. Most assignments are lazily copied with numbers changed from previous years, but often this changed the fundamentals of the question asked. You learn more from the book than anything despite being required to attend lest he gives a pop quiz if no one shows up.
Willing to wait as long as it takes for a student to answer his question because he seems like he genuinely doesn't know what he is talking about. Reads from the slides that the book company produces, doubt he ever changes the hw or tests. I would take someone else 110%.
Dr. Baskiyar is a nice guy, but he just doesn't sound interested in what he's teaching. His lectures are very boring and monotone, which makes it difficult to stay focused. If you go to his office hours or talk to him after class though, he always makes an effort to answer whatever questions you may have.
Dr. Baskiyar is a super nice and very knowledgeable person. He will go through every small detail and he actually use pen and paper to break things up. His slides contain detail notes for every topic. You have to attend classes to do well in exams. He is extremely fair and cautious in grading and TA put comments on hws. Will definitely take again.
None of the homework assignments have contained material we have covered in class yet so far. I'm not sure that the professor even knows what is on the assignments that he gives. He has to ask what we covered in the previous lecture every time and wastes at least 10-15 minutes per lecture trying to figure out how to use a computer.
Dr. Baskiyar is one of the best professors I ever had. His class is difficult, but he makes every detail clear during lectures. His exam questions are based on the material covered in the class.
Probably one of the worst classes due to him just reading off of the slides and not really making sense of the material. Made his tests way to hard and had to curve every single one of them and also the final. He also never did any of the grading and pushed it all onto his TAs. DO NOT TAKE him for this class
Assembly is easily one of the worst classes if taught by him. He would waste 20-30 minutes every class setting up a microphone and reading our canvas calendar, resulting in the class being weeks behind on lectures. The week he covered a topic, the homework was due for it the previous week, and tests were just as bad. Avoid him for 3350.
Baskiyar is a great teacher, but he makes you work.
Dr. Baskiyar is incredibly smart and knows the material inside and out. Tests are difficult, but his lectures are helpful. Would undoubtedly take him again.
Dr. Baskiyar is very smart, and helpful when it comes to the material. The tests and homework can be difficult, but it is a pretty straightforward class. He is very helpful if you are confused and ask for help.
Pay attention to his online lectures and you will get an easy A. 90% of his homeworks are based off of his lectures and supplemented by the textbook. 10% of his homeworks are things he never discussed in class and requires self study. Attendance is mandatory so don't even play with it. Overall, easy class and I did learn a lot!
Dr. Baskiyar is a great professor. He gives lots of examples with detailed explanations. If you go to class and pay attention, you will understand everything. Learned a lot!
Dr. Baskiyar knows the material inside and out, and he put a lot of effort into adapting the course to being online. He clearly wants his students to learn and is willing to help and answer any questions. He is very kind as well, he always asks with genuine interest how people's days are going. I highly recommend Dr. Baskiyar for 3350.
I have not learned a single thing from this man and I had to self-teach myself all of the content. The lectures are monotone and are poorly structured to the point that I felt like the teacher had no idea what he was doing. I recommend avoiding him at all costs unless you want a massive headache every week.
Y'all better take Dr. Li for this class. This was the hardest class I have ever taken. Homework projects take hours upon hours and the tests are nearly impossible. He did not lecture well and expected us to watch 3+ hours of video lectures each week. This is your warning. If you like your GPA do not take Baskiyar!
He barely explain anythings clear, and gives really hard HW and test, course was taught through zoom record from last semester, with horrible class experience, and didnt actually explain the materials clear. HOWEVER! HE GIVES 7.5 EXTRA CREDITS! And he do curve every exam. Be ware of pop quiz during lecture, gives about 6 bonus point in final grade.
Dr. Baskiyar is a fantastic teacher. Make sure to study throughout so that you do not get behind.
Don't trust other comments. The class itself is not so competitive. Yet, Dr. Baskiryar is the problem. He's video lectures are 3+ hrs long each week. His accent was..somewhat okay. Yet, I feel like he just reads off of the textbook. I don't know why the school continuing to have him teach the students; he just don't qualify as a processor.
This man is the most extremely unorganized. Week 1, Baskiyar said we would only have class on Thurs. The following week, he sends a Canvas message out on Tues., requesting our presence in class. His lecture videos are confusing, boring, monotone, and AI like. Siri could read the information and it would be better. HWs are insane and brain dead.
I took this class as a remote student. The class was a mix of watching pre-recorded lectures and him holding class time on zoom. His English is very good and understandable, although he's a biy of a slow speaker. I believe he's knowledgeable about the material, but not always the best as boiling it down into more understandable terms. Overall good.
Professor Baskiyar is actually good, and his TA is also very enthusiastic. As long as you actively send emails or go to the TA's office hours, you will learn a lot. And you will get extra 9 points in every exam. But it is undeniable that this course is indeed difficult, and both homework and exams are difficult and challenging.
Had Him for assembly online, class average for the 2 exams and final were around 70, but he curved all of them by 9 points too, so that's nice. Each week consist of 2-4 hours of watching pre-recorded lectures along with a homework that takes a few hours. Along with that, the actual classes we attended were treated as more of an extra office hours.
Professor Baskiyar's course is somewhat difficult, but not too scary. The difficulty of his homework is set within a reasonable range, but his exams are somewhat difficult, so he will add extra 9 points to us after each exam, and it will have extra credit quiz at the end of semester. If you usually study, then getting a B or above is not a problem.
Although Professor Baskiyar's lecture is boring, his ppt explains the knowledge quite clearly. If you go to his lecture and read the ppt in depth, you can still learn something. But his exams were a little difficult, so he would give us some extra points. His class is worth taking, but maybe boring.
Dr. Baskiyar's class is very hard. He is not a great communicator. Students would ask questions and not get a clear answer. Lectures are very boring and never explains anything. The class consist of watching old zoom recordings that were taught during covid. He does give a curve for most exams because the class does so terrible.
Dr. Baskiyar showed little to no effort for his Assembly class. He canceled in-person lectures so he could use the time for office hours. Used old and extremely boring recorded Zoom lectures. He consistently gave unclear responses to questions. The homework was not too bad, but nothing like the tests. The exams were terrible. Overall, he felt lazy.
Dr. Baskiyar is a great professor and explains difficult content well. His lectures are clear and the homework is helpful to understand the concepts.
He means well but his class is very disorganized. The first two weeks of class, the first 45 mins were spent setting up zoom and wasting time. His video lectures will start mid lecture which is very confusing and he has a lot of reading on top of that. Class is optional but he goes on random tangents and takes long to answer question (15-25 min)
He's an okay professor; if not for the bonus points, I would have finished the class with a C. Lectures typically come from watching 3-year-old videos where he goes through a PowerPoint slide by slide. Most of the time, he didn't sound so sure about the material he was explaining. Tests were hard since you had to know the concepts in-depth.
The whole class was basically reading his ppt slides and watching him explain them on lecture videos from COVID. I did go to in person class but he just explains homework questions and general concepts people ask. He might have the single most boring voice of any professor I have ever heard, which makes those lecture videos damn near impossible.
Solid class. The expectations were clear and there was opportunity to succeed. Many people complain about the course, but realistically, the material is difficult. No other professor will make it easier. Dr. Baskiyar gives clear instructions on what you need to study, as well as extra credit.
Listen, assembly isn't easy, and while Dr. Baskiyar isn't the best professor in the world, he did more than just throw us a bone many times, he gave a very generous curve (13 pts) for the first two tests, and was easily persuaded to give extensions on homeworks. If you sit down and actually try to learn assembly instead of complain, you'll do great
3 exams, 10 homeworks. Must study presentations word for word to do well. The professor is a very caring and respectful guy. He's a little old and a little disorganized in class, but the video lectures are all you really need. Exams are tricky. You need to understand all concepts in depth. He gave us 13 points extra credit per exam.
Although he is not a bad person, this course is indeed difficult, and Dr. Baskiyar does his best to explain the concepts, even if it seems boring. The exam was difficult, so he gave us extra points. You need to do your best to get good grades in this class. But as long as you work hard, you can at least get a B.
This course is extremely valuable thanks to the outstanding professors and the GTA. The professor is very knowledgeable and friendly, and he always answers very difficult questions with the simplest explanations. The GTA Mr.Guan Huang is very patient and very smart. Whenever you ask him a question, he can always answer your questions!
Must watch videos for attendance grades, make sure you find the true video to watch. Hopefully, you won't encounter Mr. Sanjeev Sinha as the TA for this class. The worst TA I dealt with ever, a very tough grader...
There are 10 HWs and 3 exams. Please do the HWs yourself and start early, you will be fine even if you do 1 HW Q. a day. There is a lot of material and Dr. Baskiyar explains hard topics in class and rest are covered in video lectures. Write answers to every study guide "Sample Question" on your allowed cheat sheet before exams. Good class and Prof.
He's pretty chill ngl. The TA graded a bit hard tho
Oh sanjeev. Class isn't that bad. Exams are tough but he is very generous with curving, and material is similar to the study guide. Lectures are boring and he goes very slowly. Textbook is available for free on google if you know where to look, use that. HW every week or so, start early because they can take a while. Overall, he's a nice guy.
His lectures are so boring, he seems like a great guy but my class just didn't participate so he definitely got a little frustrated with us. Good guy, homework every week-ish, study hard for the tests. We got a cheat sheet for every exam, and the average was still in the 50s. Very lenient curves, 15 pts per exam. Overall decent option for assembly.
The course is hard. Theres no way around that. Sure his lectures are terrible but If you read the book and study the book the tests makes a lot of sense and he'll curve it 15-18 points.
Dr. Baskiyar wants you to do well and it is not impossible to do well in class. The material and tests are pretty difficult, but I found that the textbook and the study guide he provides(especially the questions at the bottom) to be the most helpful. That being said he cannot organize a class to save his life and I was often lost.
Tough class, but he gives extreme curves (mine was near 15-17 points) and extra bonus points when needed (Attending class wasn't mandatory, but he gave us extra points for the amount of times we've showed up). He's very kind and definitely wants you to succeed. Exams were similar to the study guides, but still tough. You get a cheat sheet as well.
Difficult course to understand at first, but gets easier to follow as it goes along. Follow the slides, do any extra credit, and copy slides into cheatsheets. It won't be easy, but you'll learn in this class.
