Very openly homosexual with a thick Columbiam accent which is hard to understand most of the time. He loves to think that his class is the only one that matters and u have nothing better to do than work for his class. Hes not afraid to clas ur work f*cking crap infront of the entire class. Save urself the agony...trust me.
I'm a homophobic, so the fact that he's openly gay is not ideal, but some people may be comfortable with that. As a male student, being called, "Honey," by a male teacher is nauseating. He assigns too much work as if you have no other assignments, and his class is 2.5 hours long. Basically, his class is terrible and he sucks. So avoid his class.

Everything you learn in his classes is valuable and later you'll look back and thank him for that. Every design student is busy and have too many projects working on at the same time. Deal with it you mofo.
Is santiago a hard teacher? yes. Are his classes a lot of work? yes. He is one of the smartest teachers I have had at UT and is definatly willing to help you. He brings a lot of experience and knowledge. If you give an ounce of effort and are not some ignorant close-minded person then the class goes well.
fabulous teacher, knows what hes talking about and is passionate

Take whatever you can with Santiago. He is amazing.
The projects in this class are a lot of fun, however the class itself is very long and much of the material is highly shocking in regard to sexual explicitly, self mutilation, and other vulgarities. Most of the time he is an easy grader. If you are open to anything, go for it. If you have a weak stomache, you may want to stay away.
I <3 Santi! If you are a closed-minded moron you won't like his classes, but if you make an honest attempt he will reward you. His classes can be a bit shocking but isn't art supposed to defy convention and make you sick or angry? What are you people, like 12 years old? Grow up! If you think his classes are tough you should take a BIO class.
One of the most knowledgeable, passionate professors I've ever known. Genuinely cares about students and knows his art like no other. Animation is fun! Whooooo!
I have literally had Santiago for four classes over a 2 1/2 year span. The truth is that Santiago is the BEST teacher in the art department. I have learned everything I know about Digital Arts from him and when I land my first job I will owe it all to him. He makes the art department 90% better and you would be a fool not to take his class.
Love Santiago! I must say that his classes are very demanding but I have learned a tremendous amount from him. His classes make me feel like my tuition is well spent. I liked him so much I have him as an advisor now. Not a class to take if you are not open minded or willing to learn. But if you are, I HIGHLY recommend taking!
great teacher and extremely helpful. forces you to understand and challenges you to be your best. uses his own examples that are relevant today and always tries to learn/teach new things.
great teacher and extremely helpful. forces you to understand and challenges you to be your best. uses his own examples that are relevant today and always tries to learn/teach new things. (SUCH A GOOD TEACHER I TOOK HIS OTHER CLASS FOR FUN)
Take Santiago if you have the chance! He will inspire you to understand art in all different aspects. After taking this class, everyday I find myself making references to something I learned in art 211. Santiago is one of a kind that will change your life
Professor Santiago is very good and inspiring teacher. His classes are not easy, but you are able to learn and apply your knowledge that you learned for the rest of your life. Why pay thousands of dollars and to not learn anything? His classes are creative and very eye opening to different forms of art, and it will broaden your horizons and the w
Santiago is one of the best professors at UT. His classes are intense, but very interesting. He provokes students to learn and to rise to the challenges he sets. He also is wonderful about following the syllabus and making sure that all students are on the same page. He is very inspiring and animated and really makes you learn what he teaches! FUN!
Santiago?s classes are life changing!! Having Santiago as a professor made me love UT. He is hard, don't expect to float through his classes, but he is SO worth it. If you are looking to be successful after graduation, take him! Absolutely one of the most caring, talented and creative people I've ever had the privilege of meeting!!
Santiago is by far the best professor at UT. If you don't want to learn and want to mess around in class then DONT TAKE IT its a waist of your time because you will slow everyone else down. He manages to teach you every important aspect and more all in one semester and he does so by giving you the background you need to fully understand it!
One of the best professors at UT. You'll know how class is going to go on the 1st day (If you can?t handle other people's views, showing up & doing the work, then you shouldn?t take his classes. You shouldn?t be in college). ART311 is a challenge, he knows that & is more than willing to help. But don?t make that an excuse not to do your homework!
Great teacher if you want to learn things and actually put forth effort in return for the effort he gives strongly in his class time. If you want to just party late nights and come to class hung over with no work, then don't take his class. Instead, take something easy, then graduate and work at Hooters.
Santiago is incredibly intelligent and knows his information backwards and forwards. However, he favors pretty girls, assigns more busy work than any college student has time for, and will not explain any assignment for more than two minutes. This class was harder than any 400 level. Stay away.
Santiago is amazingly brilliant. I've taken every class he's offered and learned more from his classes than any other professor at UT. He is one of the most compassionate and caring professors I've ever met. His classes force you to think out of the box and you will learn more than you ever thought you would. Definitely take his classes.
Santiago is amazing at what he does. He really knows what he is talking about and is always open to help students. Yes his class is hard, but its hard for a reason, because Santiago tries to teach you what its like in real life. If you work hard (which is what you are supposed to do in college) you will be fine. Just show that you actually care!.
Santiago Echeverry is a wonderful professor. He has help me learn how to make websites, make interactive flash projects and so much more. With his unique personality & diverse world view, he has not only influenced me, but expanded my horizons. To say that he was my professor is not enough. He was my mentor, who still helps me with opportunities!
He is a very helpful professor...don't plagiarize with him (or anyone), be very creative and colorful in your projects and you will be fine!
I love Santiago! The class itself is hard, but he has been patient and willing to help us learn it. Even when I had to leave for a week to give birth to my daughter, he allowed me to send in my final piece for the first project. Very kind, intelligent, and if he offered any more classes in my major, I would have DEFINITELY taken him.
A fantastic professor overall, he is deeply passionate about his lessons and knows so much about it. Eager to help and to have his students participate. We were assigned a text to read, but didn't really use it much. The class wasn't terribly easy, but as long as you pay attention and take notes you should be fine. Participation helps a lot, though
Ohhhh Santi! Hate to love him, love to hate him! He is a tough professor, but you will learn a LOT. I took him over the summer and a lot was cut out because of the shorter time period, but he still gave us 3-4 projects a week. It was one of the hardest classes that I have taken at UT, but it is also the class where I have learned the most.
This was probably the most challenging class I've ever taken, but the most rewarding. Although I had prior experience with the Adobe Software, he still managed to teach me more then I could have imagined. He's a tough grader, but in a way that will make you try harder to impress him. Even those that have no experience showed so much improvement.
His class is hard but extremely rewarding. He is very passionate about art and if you're interested in the arts then you will love his class. He is hilarious and intelligent. Definitely recommended!
Amazing teacher. Gives you the best open eyed outlook on art. His passion goes way beyond the class room and is a true inspirational artist. He does not ask much of the students but to put effort and is always going out of his way to make the classroom a better place to be.
Avoid this class, you'll be happy you did.
Not easy but truly the best professor I've had.
Very good professor
This professor is the best professor you'll ever take. His classes are challenging, but he is like your coach. He inspires you to push your limits of creativity. He is very approachable outside of class, and I would not have found my life goals without him. He cares for your well-being, and challenges you. This class will shape you as a person.
This is a creative coding class, and you learn so much from his teachings. He really inspires you to try your best and he appreciates effort. He is a coaching teacher, he's always available for help and appreciates it when questions are asked. He knows it's a hard subject, so he teaches slowly and makes sure everyone is on the same page. Amazing!!
A challenging class, but you will learn more from this professor than any other. He is a fantastic artist as well as a teacher, so he will push you to do the best of your capability while helping you every step of the way. He constantly challenges you to challenge yourself. By far one of the greatest professors I have had the pleasure of having.
Tough grader. This class is NOT an easy A. He will challenge you and give brutal but honest criticism.
I love Santi! He's so willing to help if you're willing to ask for it and wants everyone to pass! You may be intimidated after the first class: it gets better, I promise. Most of the projects he walks you through before you actually do them and he gives you constructive feedback without sugar coating anything. You will work hard, but you will learn
No tests, but always assignments due. He's not a hard grader, but attendance is a must. As long as you put in the effort you will do good and get a good grade. The beginning of ART 210 was tough but it gets easier, you start learning some cool stuff with Photoshop and Illustrator that will give you tools and some cool stuff for your resume.
Here's the thing, if you actually want to learn some design skills take his class. If it's just a required class and you don't care, avoid him. His grading scale is CRAZY. You need a 100 to get an A, that's it, no joke. A 96 - 99 is only an AB and that's still hard to get in his class. He will teach you more than you thought you could learn though
His grading scale is kinda crazy, and he's a little eccentric, but he knows what he's doing and I trust his career advice. Work hard and produce things you're proud of and you'll get a good grade.
Wonderful and knowledgeable, difficult class but if you pay attention you can succeed. He knows what he's talking about, make sure to listen. Had him at 8 am and he was energetic and kept things lively. Actually made me excited for a class that early. Getting an A meant getting an 100 so don't expect one unless you put in the effort.
I'd let this man teach me every class I take for the rest of my academic career. Such a caring, brilliant professor. During my semester with him, he went through some heavy family issues and he still put every ounce of his energy and attention into our course, which I believe he went above and beyond for. His work takes time, but is very rewarding
MOST STRESSFUL CLASS IVE EVER TAKEN! Every class you miss your grade goes down 1/2 a letter grade. He is the toughest grader ever, and does not give rubrics. Every project takes 10-20 hours. Also, his videos are way too long (2 hours) and don't even explain well. DON'T TAKE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GRADES OR SANCTITY! This class made me CRY weekly!
I LOVED this class. Professor Echeverry was one of my favorite professors I have had. I always looked forward to this class because of how fun of a professor he is. The class is a difficult class, but if you watch the videos provided and listen to his critiques you'll have no problem passing. YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK FOR YOUR GRADE.
This was easily one of the most stressful classes I have ever taken. The projects are extremely time consuming and even if you put your all into it you won't get the grade you deserve. His videos do help and he is a funny guy but an awful grader. Attendance is MANDATORY otherwise you lose 1/2 a letter grade.
One of my favorite professors Ive ever had! If you dont care about art or dont listen, than this isnt the class for you! This professor is honest, helpful, and overall a great human being. Ive only ever did art as a hobby and this class inspired me to dive deeper into the arts. High recommend! Put the work in!
Santiago is a phenomenal digital media artist and teaching, however, if you are a student that is not tech savvy or is only taking his class for credit, you will have a very hard time. He picks favorites based on effort, is hard on students, and will be rude if you are rude to him. If you want to learn adobe you will love it, if not you'll hate it.
Santiago is a very good teacher and an even better person to talk to. Other than the big projects (which while not terribly hard will take up chunks of your time) there was no homework.
Santiago is easily one of the best professors I've had at UT. He amazing at what he does and he also takes the time to teach his students exactly how to complete the projects. Not only complete it, but also learn how to use the tools and programs. Santiago has taught me more than any teacher I've ever had. No promises you won't shed tears tho.
Echeverry presents interesting content, and is passionate about the discipline. Projects and presentations were not super difficult, but be thorough! He'll be excited by any unique content you add in. He always fills the full class time, even when it doesn't feel completely necessary, but he's an interesting guy with great experience to share!
I've had Santi twice in a row and he's honestly great. He's SUPER accommodating as long as you let him know in advance. Don't think you're going to just get by in any of his classes. He expects you to act professional because you'll have to be in the real world and will call you out on your bull if you test him. Put in the effort and you'll be fine
He has a lot of experience in digital design but expects you to basically have the same skills as him. He picks favorites and when it comes time to presentation he will straight up tell you in front of the whole class your work looks like sh@!t word for word. He will gladly embarrass you and has no problem being rude about it. NOT an easy class..
This class is not easy, however it is SO worth taking. I'm an ADPR major who took this as an elective and I know this course will majorly benefit me in the future. Santiago is an amazing professor, SUPER caring and wants to see you succeed in and outside of his class. Put in the effort (and a lot of time) and this class will be so worth it.
I took Honors Humanities Idea Lab, most assignments are group work. Typically he is an easy grader however, it feels like he grades how he wants, criteria isn't specified so it's hard to know what he expects. If you miss 2 classes you won't pass the class. He is very condescending and demeaning to some students in front of the whole class.
Doesn't ask for perfection but demands it when he reviews projects. He expects your work to be on the same level as his. Doesn't really show exactly how to do a project, but shows the smallest way to get started on the project
Great professor! He has a lot of knowledge on the subject so you'll really learn about every aspect! He also gives lots of good feedback on projects and honestly it was really helpful. Also just a great person to talk to and get to know. would def take more courses with him
Santiago cares A LOT about his students success. He does not view the class as an art class, but as a business class which is a great way to view it. However, his expectations are unrealistic for students who never used the programs we use. He is very unprofessional, rude and will embarrass you. Makes everything political. You will learn a lot
This class is very time consuming and the professor says that he does not expect perfection but then questions your effort and says your work looks horrible. He uses a lot of profanity and makes a lot of things political. He is rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. He will embarrass you in front of the whole class and praise others. THE WORST!!
There is no preparation given for this class and is rushed. He expects big coding projects of thousands of lines to be completed in under a week and for you to get no sleep in the process. Even if you try your best and work hard in this class, it wont matter, he tears your work down with no remorse in front of everyone. You will not have a life.
The worst teacher I ever had at UT. He doesn't teach the class anything during our scheduled time period, he tells you to watch the videos of a lecture at home. We spend every class period sitting as he grades each students work in front of the class. Everyone knows what grade you got and he makes fun of students work and says it's "awful"&"ugly".
This professor made this class very unenjoyable. He brings politics into everything and your grade will vary if he likes you or not. There are no rubrics for any assignments and makes up criteria as he goes. However, he does offer insightful critiques and is well educated...he is just miserable to work with. I advice to NOT take his courses.
Professor Echeverry has no concept of time at all. He gives outrageous deadlines for assignments and expects perfection in every assignment, but then says he doesn't expect perfection. Will openly criticize your work in front of the entire class and has little regard for your feelings. He will go off on tangents about his favorite music artists.
Professor Santiago cares very little for your life. He will assign projects demanding thousands of lines of code within 2 weeks or so. He will show an example of a student who did a project perfectly and expect that from everyone else. He seems to forget that most college students actually have a life outside of the classroom. Avoid at all costs!!!
Santiago is the perfect example of how not to teach. He will show you how to do an assignment, but only a C-grade. And when it comes to projects he expects an A+ result. His criticism is incredibly harsh and he wastes class time talking about his favorite musical artist when he could actually be teaching us. I'm shocked he still has a job here
Highly critical of your work with poor feedback that is filled with swearing and usually will not describe how to make it better. Unprofessional and disrespectful. Has no interest in your success or his job.
Grades you in front of your peers and makes fun of you for mistakes and also will not help you through those mistakes. He is happy to see you fail and talks about personal issues in class while he gives you unrealistic deadlines.
If you want to get better in your craft, TAKE SANTI! He is truly one of the best professors I have had while at UT. He gives you a lot of projects, but that was the only way I was able to get better. He gives honest but constructive criticism for every single project. Nothing is sugar coated, but in a creative industry...that's reality. TAKE HIM!!!
Not only is he very detailed and will explain things to you when asked, he gives great constructive criticism. A lot of times I've had questions in terms of coding, and website design he not only explain things to the basic but also advances the more I understood it. He is caring and will help students that will help themselves.
Just pretend to be a liberal and you'll get a good grade. If you get him to like you then it'll be fine, but it's hard to take the class seriously due to both the material and the teacher. Like what do you mean I have to write a paper about Hentai? Very strange. It's like the tunnel scene in Willy Wonka; fun but borderline prevented.
Santi is passionate and his feedback is valuable. The class is tough and the workload is heavy, but that's the point. You become confident in task management, meeting timelines, quality assurance, and also get a real sense of what the industry is like. Take his classes if you're serious about improving your skills, work ethic, and problem solving.
Professor doesn't care about understanding students. He expects things to be mentioned during presentations, yet gives no criteria on what to present. Makes uncomfortable comments about wishing people were gay. He has a constant need to be heard and does not care that he interrupts or talks down to his students.
What was said also on April 28, 2025 was false. The professor did not say this. The only reason you are failing the class is because you don't pay attention and use chatgbt for work that's your problem. Anyways, Professor Echeverry is one of the most intelligent and thoughtful instructors I've ever had. Highly recommend taking any class he teaches!
FMX381 I noticed that there are many reviews that Santi is rude and mean that gives harsh feedback... Give me a break! He is only harsh to you because he really cares about his students and wants you to succeed. Don't take it personally if he is harsh, use it as a motivation to do better. He is tough, but once you get to know him, he's great! 10/10
Professor Echeverry has an infectious upbeat attitude & love of learning which makes for very interesting lectures. I have learned & grown so much in our short 7-week class with him. And he knows when you are not listening, when you are shopping or watching movies, which is to your own detriment both in knowledge and grade. He's the best!
Grades are option based, insulted students publicly, and showed clear f a v or ti sm toward one student, kept him after class to talk bad about other students. Changed the grading policy during finals week, making attendance suddenly worth 0% after stressing its importance all semester, unfair to students that showed up every day.
This class was incredibly unprofessional. He changed the grading scale during finals week and made attendance seem life-or-death all semester, only to make it 0% before the final. He showed uneven treatment, stayed after class with one student, talked about us, and mocked projects he didn't like. Will bash you in front of class, thinks it's funny.
Professor Santiago is a great professor who really helped develop my skills in Adobe programs like Photoshop and InDesign. He's funny, caring and really makes an 8 PM class engaging. His feedback can be harsh or very positive depending on the quality of your work, but it's helpful and pushes you to improve in future assignments. Would recommend!
Do not listen to these teachers pets. This professor only likes and gives those people good grades. The one in my class stays after class every day and even got his phone number. He talks bad about the students in the class with the pet after every class. Extremely unprofessional and unfair for the other students that work their a$$ off.
Lost my chill professor a couple weeks into the semester for this bum, that wastes time talking about hooking up with men. He curses frequently and is extremely unprofessional. Spends the majority of class time openly critiquing and grading your work for all in the class to see. I'm so grateful I will never have to have another class with him.
