First year here. Lets see what she has??
Be prepared to teach yourself. She doesnt give studyguides, test you on chapters she has not covered,"Because she is behind", you will have to read the book and teach yourself. If you have her for lab, she is not clear at all, she will not help you, if you ask a question she gives you a look as if you are stupid. This is an INTRO Micro, Teach us!!
I would recommend taking this class with another professor. Rojas is not helpful at all !! her famous line is "I don't have time to go over that" or "you should know this, its easy." She also puts her students down and does not answer questions. She does not give study guides and put stuff on the exam that she doesn't go over in class.
This professor is very, very rude. Instead of encouraging her students to do well, she likes to put them down. If you ask for help you can immediately tell by her facial expression that she gets bothered. She likes to go on & on about how her class is hard to pass and how most students end up dropping. She's the worst professor I've taken byfar.
She doesn't o oer the material efficiently. She loves to say "you guys need to study or you guys should already no this". She doesn't give out study guides or go over the exam after. She doesn't even drop a test her grading scale is extremely high it is as if she wants her students to fail. She even says herself that it is rare for to get an A.
I like Rojas. She will help you whenever she is in her office,I think I am the only one that ever goes to see her in her office. She tries to make the class as easy as possible, it is micro, expect to study and earn your grade, her exams are not that difficult if you take notes and study She offers simple extra credit She knows her stuff n helps u
I FORGOT TO MENTION IN MY ABOVE COMMENT THAT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY BEFORE TAKING MICRO
She takes centuries to grade exams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took an introductory course with Santos, she didn't teach it at all as intro class. She bombarded us with lots of info didnt go over the material. She expected us to read the book for most of her exams didn't provide a study guide said that her slide show was the study guide but only a few questions were related to her lecture slides.
dr. Santos was very rude and not very helppful. Whenever i asked a question, her answers were alway,"you should know this" or "you'll figure it out". I just stopped asking and so did yone else. Assignments were not clear. I had to learnmost of the material by reading the book and youtube. Shwas also very negative and never said hello/goodmorning:/
She is a little tough, be prepared to give it all you got, she really knows her stuff but still needs a little more practice in bringing the material properly, especially in lab. No study guides but if you follow her slides and read that section in the book and test and teach you will do good It's not meant to be an easy course so be ready
I had my first class with Dr. Santos yesterday. She seems like a good instructor who really wants us to learn and not just pass the class. It seems easy enough you just have to study. The students who gave her bad ratings sound lazy "she made us read the book" DUH! That's what the book is for! Most of them are going into health care! YIKES!
I took her class for both lab and lecture. Her lectures were very unorganized. During lecture, she didn't allow students to ask questions so it felt like she was just trying to get through the material and stay on her schedule. She takes about 2-4 weeks to grade & doesn't give feedback. Lab is always fun. I do not recommend this teacher for lecture
Ms Rojas is a good teacher overall. I got an A in the class but I STUDIED day and night! She has a little attitude tho and she's always saying we have "germy" kids at home that bring all this bacteria and germs. She also says that her students pass bacteria to her and that's why she does online work. I think that's really rude!
No study guides, you should record all her lectures, intense studying, not to good at teaching... My advice would be to wait until someone else teaches Micro or take it somewhere else.
I have about 1 more month left with Dr. Santos. Her class isn't hard if you attend and take notes. Study the powerpoint and notes and you will get an A. She DOES let you ask questions in lecture and is helpful also if you go during her office hours. She doesn't spoon feed us but we aren't babies! We have to work for our grade, what a concept!
She cares more about staying on her schedule than actually teaching. Likes to put students down..why be a professor.,,,take someone else
She is clear on what shes testing us on. It is a hard class so i do not recommend taking it with another science class. Study her notes, book and go to other sources. The only thing is that she takes along time to return test results
I am so glad I took S. Rojas for Micro! Im in the nursing program now and everything I learned in her class is relevant! She was not that difficult, I passed her class with a High A and I never read the book, I studied her lecture, and ppts.
"Basically" she has all of the experience and the students do not. Not clear on what is on the exam, she won't help you in lab and frankly should go back to Arizona!
I LOVED this class. It was a lot of work, but if you record her lectures and STUDY you will do fine. She is very helpful. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS!
She is HORRIBLE!!!! The worst teacher I have ever had. She is RUDE, and does not like to answer any questions in class. She always says we will learn this stuff later. She is very disorganized and wants to keep up with her schedule instead of actually teaching. I recommend taking micro at another college.
Rojas is the worst science professor I have ever taken. Unbelievably condescending to questions. She says "you guys" every third word. "you guys should know this, come on you guys, this isn't hard you guys" seriously at least fifty times. She has no business being a professor. And I received an A in the class. Just TERRIBLE!
Really good professor. recomend to read notes after class and pay attention in class she helps in reviewing the concepts in last lecture by asking questions during lecture and shows how they relate. Loved her teaching method.
I cannot stress how bad this 'insructor' is. The students sit in her class and are just praying that it doesn't get any worse. At each and every turn, it does. "YOU GUYS" "WE'LL TALK ABOUT THAT LATER". She cannot pronounce words correctly...it's so bad that sometimes you have to see the word spelled. This isn't from an accent. She is AWFUL!!
despite all the negative comments, I still took her class. I have be honest, lab is more difficult than the lect. I only study the slides and record/listen the lect. Didnt use the textbook at all. Dont memorize the concept, try to understand it. Her class is not that hard. I work full time while taking her class, and got an A. good luck!
The worst professor on this planet, beware of this class, she is negative, no study guides, you have to study and work very hard just to pass. She makes the class harder than it really is. It's like working in a mine for three dollars an hour.
Professor Rojas is an awesome teacher. She is well organized and answers ALL questions. She gives extra credit on exams and other extra credit which I recommend taking advantage of.This class is HARD and you have to STUDY. Record her lectures, study her pwrpoints, and read the book and you will get an A.
Dr. Rojas is a really great professor.
Dr. Rojas know a lot about microbiology but she doesn't know how to transmit all her knowledge to students. She makes the material more complicated than what it is.
Study the power point lecture slides and jot down emphasized things she says in the lecture. If you do these two, u should be able to pass the course.
Comes of slightly unapproachable at first. However, if you go talk to her after lecture for more clarification, she gets really animated and enjoys explaining it to you further. She tests on only what she discusses in class, which I highly respect. The class itself is difficult subject matter, but she teaches it clearly and precisely.
Its not that she's hard, its just that the class overall is hard itself. Like, there's just so much information coming at you at once, you can get overwhelmed. However, everything that is on her powerpoints, is on the tests. She also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. She does answer questions and will help during her office hours.
She's a great professor, the best professor I have take here at Cerritos college .
This professor is great. The material is very tough, but she takes the time to explain everything with clarity. I enjoyed taking her class because I learned so much. You have to work hard for your grade. Record her lectures and review her power points. If you dedicate the time and put effort into it you will pass with an A.
I didnt know anything about Micro coming into this class but I ended up loving every minute of it. Dr. Santos is a great professor and really wants you to succeed. If I could take the class over I would just because I enjoyed it that much. Lab was awesome. Only tests you on whats on her powerpoints too for lecture. I earned an A. She is awesome
Shes very nice and explains EXACTLY what your getting into. Class is intense but hey, its micro 200 what can you expect. You do need to read on your own and study on your own, she isnt a teacher that will hold you hand the whole way but at the same time you shouldn't really expect that either, cmon its a tough subject by itself anyway.
Professor Rojas is clear, her exams are based on lecture.
Dr. Rojas is straight forward in what she needs you to know. If you're committed to do the work, you will be fine. Record her!!! She doesn't mind & it helps to hear her explain things a few times. Her passion for the subject is even more evident when you actually engage in conversation with her. Would definitely taker her again. Lots of studying!!!
She doesn't get her message across very well, the most difficult things she explains poorly. Watch out for the chapter 5 lecture spends little time but will have an abundance of question on the test. Gives extra credit on the exams in written formats. Good luck with her if you take her...
You have to study REALLY HARD. Have to be alert. Your grade from pre-requisites matters. She goes fast. You get the feeling of picking on you. I like lecture part, but not the lab in her class.
9 quizes, 4 tests and a final! Yes, and if you have her for lab too make that 6 quizes, 2 lab notebooks, and one lab project with a paper, a midterm and a final. The material isnt hard as long as you study and dont skip class. I highly recommend you record her lectures and print out her slides! Do the extra credit she gives you. All of it!
She's not that bad. Her negativity at the beginning may want to make u quit but dont do it, stay. Finish the class! She's a good teacher . Yes, the amount of work is ridiculous but you'll learn a lot. Also, don't take this class with other classes, especially if you work. If you dont work or work part time, I recommend u take it with 1 easy class.
Rojas is the best! I have learned so much about micro from her! I didn't think I would like microbiology, because of all the "overdramatic" comments about how hard and difficult her class is. But I actually ended up loving every single minute of it! Definitely take her if you actually want to learn instead of just memorize!
Rojas deserves a better rating than she is getting on here. She really is a good teacher, a true gem. Yes, you have to study & work for your grade so dont expect an easy A. I hated her at first but I have so much respect for her now because I've learned so much! You have to be 100% dedicated to take this class. Stay positive! You can do it!
Tough class but recording her lectures helps sooo much!!! If you study her lectures over and over you do not need to read the book :)
Prof Rojas was the last class available. At first I was not sure how I would do, she's tough. My first quiz, and exam I scored terribly and almost dropped the course. However I stuck to it, changed my seat, changed my lecture/study habits and every exam after that I got an A. Take good notes, and study her PP and you'll do fine.
Although her class was hard and I did struggle I learned so much from her she knows so much about microbiology and she offers a lot of extra credit make sure to do it all it helps a lot and take all your quizzes, study the power points, and take good notes it will be a hard class but you will learn a lot from her you just have to be dedicated
You have to study & work for your grade so don't expect an easy A. She is straight forward in what she needs you to know. Record her! She doesn't mind & it helps to hear her explain things a few times. Take all your quizzes, study the power points. She takes a while to grade your exams so you might have to wait a week to 2 weeks.
Never meet a professor who makes you feel less of a student. Dr. Rojas, smacking lips who talks about student in front of others, was poor etiquette. Prequsite matters, office hour did not help. Worked so hard, sadly grade did not reflect. Will not give you the satisfaction, purposely tricks you on the exam. But, good subject and I learned alot.
A lot of people have told me that this professor is too strict and her class is really hard. But to be honest, if you truly study your material and keep on top of it, you WILL pass the class. I was intimidated at first, but I grew to love the class. I WOULD take the class again because the material is very interesting. She is a great professor.
Dr. Rojas has different personality that it was tough to categories. She can be intimidating, funny, or snob. Whichever you experience, don't give up. I thought I would have to repeat her class, but I ended up passing with B. Record her as most students suggested and listen to recording and study her PowerPoint & I guarantee that you will do well.
I knew nothing about microbio before this class but i've learned so much! Everything on the tests is 100% from her lectures. Questions are in detail so you do need to understand the material but if you pay attention in lectures and just study, it's not that hard. Textbooks not required but it helps for prequizzes. Recording her helps too :)
literally every little detail from power points is on her exams, pretty tough on essays.
Rojas has been one of the few professors that has truly challenged me at Cerritos.I had to work hard for my grade but in the end it was worth it. She changed me as a student.I always settled for B's up until I took her class.I realized that if I could pass her class with an A, I could do it for all of my other classes. You have to give it your all.
She goes over her power points quick so you have to keep up. She does not give study guides, so its kind of tough while studying for her exams. She gives a little bit of extra credit.
Not easy class, you have to study a lot in order to understand and maybe pass with an average grade. She is smart but snob teacher, she make students feel inferior, you can love the topics but not her class for sure. Take 151 before, it is going to help! Good luck! I got an A and i still did not like her horrible class. Lab teacher was better!
She is very specific on how she grades short answer questions so make them simple and to the point. Not an impossible class to take just very heavy on the lectures. Study her slides, and pay close attention to what she says in lectures. I really enjoyed her class!
Took this class with physiology and managed to get an A in both. You must really have the time to study and take good notes; reading the book and youtube videos help too. The material itself is hard and she can go through lectures fast. I recommend going to the tutoring room for help and to rerun through the processes and topics. EC up to 20points.
Worst professor I have ever had. Spends more time lecturing about noisy cell phones than the subject matter. Spends the majority of the lecture belaboring simple straight forward material and skimming over the more complicated subject matter. Then tests heavily on said subject matter. Absolutely wants to trick you rather than teach you. STAY AWAY
Honestly feels like she doesnt care or want her students to pass. Belittles the students so we feel like if we asked a simple question she will make us look stupid in front of the entire classroom. I read my materials like I should but when test comes, all the test questions she give are as if shes trying to trick you. Its horrible.
Talks too fast. You know your teaching method is bad when the class average is a C. Skims over lecture talking as fast a rap god. Asks ?s but nobody answers bc they can't catch what she said. She repeats the questions she asks not the answer (unhelpful) 106 lab ?s that splits to a&b so maybe 150?s. I've had to replay recordings 100s o times 2 study
I am telling you from my experience, Rojas is not a good teacher. She is very confusing and not very helpful. The harder material she just speeds through. She is ALWAYS trying to trick you on the exams. This class is already a hard topic but she makes it 100x harder because she is awful.
Professor Rojos does not care for her students, maybe because she has too many students who knows, do not take her unless you like to be tricked on exams. Micro is already hard as it is, she makes it harder. For example if a word is binary fission, she would have an answer saying binary fusion, for me it was uncalled for.
yeah. long story short, if you're one of the students trying to get into micro and are reading this, better luck next time and find a better professor! If anything, go take micro at a different college. This professor has no care for her students and it shows through her teaching styles.
I see a lot of negative comments on here & honestly, it mustve been because students want an easy A. She is a tough grader & her exams are lecture heavy. If you dont put time & effort & go to her office hours of course you wont pass. Let alone get an A. I studied EVERYDAY and listened to her lectures. I got an A & left feeling very accomplished.
Professor Rojas has by far been one of the best professors Ive had at Cerritos college. Id recommend taking both lecture and lab with her if given the opportunity; due to the fact that they overlap sometimes. She makes the information covered interesting and gets her students involved in lecture. Youll receive the grade you put in the work for.
she has alot of knowledge to offer ,but doesn't know how to teach, her test are very difficult, she changes the material as if she wants you to fail on purpose. i over heard her talking to another professor to not pay attention to the students with a D or lower because they will drop eventually she was literally in front of the class with no care
You would think with covid 19 and having to transition lab and lecture to online, she would be more understanding and caring right? Wrong.I heard many negative comments about Rojas but decided to take to take her anyways. My only class. She goes too fast on everything. You ask for help and she almost ignores you. The average on her exams were 60%.
I will NOT recommend anyone to take microbiology with Professor Rojas. I understand we all had to make the best out of our distance learning due to COVID 19, but we lost class time and much of the material was crammed. The exams were made difficult than ever before when we went online. AND she will REFUSE to round your 89.6%!!!
The material itself is very interesting but I hated every moment of this class. Consider taking microbio at a diff college or taking a diff lab prof like I did. Her exams go EXTREMELY in depth, lectures are too fast, doesnt really "teach" anyways and just quickly reads over her slides. 20 EC points maximum. No sense of intimate care for students
Despite all the negative comments on here, I thoroughly enjoyed Rojas' class. I was super intimidated at first, but she's honestly a great professor. Obviously you have to put in work and it's not an easy A, but she provides more than enough extra credit to cushion your grade. I went in hoping to at least get a C and ended the semester with an A.
im taking prof Rojas during the this COVID situation and Mricobio isnt an easy subject we shouldnt be meeting once every 2 weeks this just makes it harder b/c when we meet the material shes going over is rushed! shes very monotone so recorded lectures are boring. if you take her youre going to spend lots of time on youtube with other micro proff
Ive had tough proffessors all my years of college and ive never encountered someone as hard as her. by far the worst proffesor ever, especially through this pandemic she was not helpful at all. to strict when it came down to proctorio, all her exams, quizzes and lectures were heavy. Im considering to take Micro at a different school. Dont take her !
DONT TAKE HER! worst prof ever I know micro isnt easy for the same reason we should meet more than once every 2 weeks. goes over material way too quick and wont answer questions during class because theres not enough time! maybe shes better when taken in person but dont take her when classes are online. considering taking micro at another college
DO NOT TAKE HER! everyone here is correct, she is not a good professor! Any future students reading this reconsider taking micro at another college near you. To throw a suggestion out there ELAC has an amazing micro professor. Her name is Alison Davis and the ratings are so good!
As a 3.7 GPA student, I'd NOT recommend this professor. I understand heavy workloads but she is completely INCONSIDERATE of information overload without properly explaining course material. She IGNORES student feedback and expects students to understand processes for 3-4 chapters in 1 week - UNREALISTIC! Video lectures cover 3 chapters in 15 min!
Rojas is tough now especially in a pandemic. But, the numerous amounts of students complaining about her are obviously not ready to handle higher level coursework. That, or their biological foundations are lacking. You think nursing school coursework will be any easier? That said, there are better options to take micro with.
Hardest class I have taken. You definitely have to work hard and study hard for this class. You discover your potential and determination. You will pass by having a study group and dedicate your time to studying. Shes caring and has a great sense of humor!
Right off the bat on the first day of class she told us we would not pass her class. Exams are so hard. She brought the whole class down and did not motivate anyone. And when more than half the class failed her first exam she made fun of us , told us her summer class can do better. I applied to a new college just to take micro.
She would really take points off for not doing proctorio the way she wanted. Im sorry but since when did my grade depend on not showing my desk correct during the scan of the room? Will never take again. She expected us to remember 3-4 chapters in just a week. And pre quizzes post quizzes and exams In which did not cover what were on her ppt)
Definitely the hardest class I've taken so far. Microbiology is already a tough subject and the professor didn't help at all. Lecture videos are short and pretty much just skimmed over. The amount of detailed questions in exams/quizzes don't add up with her videos. She just reads her slides and doesn't really teach anything.
worse professor at Cerritos I've took challenging classes and was able to manage them, however Rojas just doesn't teach she simply reads off her pps , microbio is already challenging and having a professor that doesn't teach makes it way harder. Already applied at a different college to take this class.
She's honestly not good professor, I'm passing with a C but she just reads off the PowerPoints. You really have to learn the material on your own.
SHE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! THOSE WHO SAY THAT STUDENTS WHO LEAVE BAD REVIEWS ARE LACKING FUNDAMENTAL SCIENCE OR ISN'T READY. IM SORRY SINCE WHEN DOES A PROFESSOR MAKE FUN OF STUDENTS IS RIGHT? ALSO TAKE POINTS OFF WHEN THE CAMERA ISN'T SET UP RIGHT? YOU'RE BETTER OFF TAKING MICRO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
Rojas is not a good professor. She's incompetent in doing her job right. She does not prepare you well. If anythung she downplays the students by saying negative comments. Micro is already hard subject, why make it harder? She gives you a certain amount of line to write your answer which then she takes off points if you overwrite.
she's a great professor. this became my favorite class & professor. she made accommodations for us throughout the semester which I appreciate. her lab was easier. i found her exams and quizzes to be fair. an A is do-able. take ap 151 before hand, it helps! study hard and you should be good. goodluck!
Dr. Rojas was a great professor & I genuinely learned so much from her. Take the negative reviews lightly!! I maintained a B average on her lec/lab exams. Exams were tough but its a 5unit 200lvl course, so be prepared to study LOTS. Only took chem beforehand and did just fine. Gave lots of EC, doesnt round grades, gives chances. My new fav. class!
I took professor Rojas during summer of 2021. I was a bit nervous because this course is only 6 weeks long. However, Professor Rojas is a wonderful professor and she is very clear and direct from the beginning on her grading criteria. Watch her videos, attend lectures and complete assignments and you will do fine.
The absolute worst professor I have taken in my 2 years at cerritos college. I think she paid the people who left good reviews to write them. There is no way of learning from her, all she does is read off of the power point slides and has a nasty attitude towards students when participating/asking questions. She's a horrible excuse for a professor.
Be ready to read the textbook. Her slides and videos are not helpful despite her saying that it should be enough for this class to watch them. NO! Her text is wayyy deeper into the content that and also she gives hard tricky questions that require you to mark all that apply for like 70% of the test. That really throws the students off.
She doesnt teach good at all and just goes based off her powerpoints. Her tests are VERY difficult. You basically have to teach the material to yourself because shes horrible at teaching. Every time a student has a question half the time she doesnt answer it because she doesnt understand what youre talking about. Dont take her.
She is a terrible teacher. Her tests are extremely difficult. Her powerpoint that she reads off of does not help. She asks you questions that I guarantee you will not even find it in the textbook, and she does NOT mention it in her lecture video. Test includes choose all-that-apply questions and she gives you less than a minute for each of it.
Unfortunately shes the only professor available at my college that teaches micro 200.. Im not going to repeat myself everything is true based on other reviews. HORRIBLE
your healthcare dreams will be crushed
If you like teaching yourself take this professor. Come to zooms prepared or you'll feel behind.
Class is time-consuming but it's hard work. Looking at the statistics provided by the rating, people either like her or don't. To me, this suggests that those giving low ratings are simply looking for an easy A - it's not! Work for it. I wouldn't want a Nurse that didn't put in the time and effort. Sorry, not sorry.
I knew micro was going to be hard but this professor made it 1000x worse. I have talked to students who had her in the past and continue to say she is the worst professor they have had even through nursing school. I have so much to say and so little space. She's horrible study your life away. Multiple mastery quizzes, post quizzes, exams, etc.
Chaotic, unhelpful, barely teaches & is not fair nor understanding.
This is a 5 unit class and micro is a challenging course. She makes it 10x harder than it should be. She gives out extra credit but you can only max out 20 extra credit points. I wouldn't recommend someone to take her class if you're taking more than 3 classes. She is okay but wouldn't take her class again
She was one of the best professors I had at Cerritos college. Idk why she has such bad reviews. Her course is difficult, yes, but that's because the subject itself is difficult. But she manages to teach it in a clear way so that you are prepared for her exams. She has a genuine passion for the subject as well which is admirable.
Keep in mind micro is a hard class and requires lots of studying to do well. She makes it harder. She has a passion for micro, but she reads it based off her PowerPoints. This class made me discover my potential and determination. She's tough and gives no study guides. Never taking her again
not sure why she's rated so poorly, granted I only took 3 classes this semester but I took her course the same time as AP150 and I have no real complaints other than there not being study guides for exams and she does give lots of quizzes. But I think she gives lots of extra credit opportunities and has lecture videos available that help a ton!
There are multiple post quizzes, mastery quizzes, etc. in this class, but they are doable. Takes ages to grade some assignments. Highly recommend reading the book since her videos arent that helpful sometimes. I learned a lot from this class. She's okay but not a fan of her teacher style
This class was definitely challenging but I still enjoyed the material that we learned throughout the semester. Be ready to put in the work and study for lab quizzes and exams. Exams consist of multiple choice, fill in and free response. The material builds off of the previous chapters so you can't forget what was previously learned.
Not an easy class, you have to study a lot in order to understand and maybe pass with an average grade. She is smart but a snob teacher. If you're taking her lecture class good luck! Lab is better than lecture. Planning on retaking micro with a different professor in summer
Nervous abt this class due to reviews(esp since im no good at sciences)Strict & tough grader w/passion (not monotonous like boring profs) for what she teaches (which is y she wants us to understand things COMPLETELY) My last prereq, she opened my eyes to the importance of this in nursing. Go to her office hours and get to know how great she is!
Prof Rojas provides great lectures. She loves connecting new notes with old notes, which helps me study for exams. Take notes and study off of them. Prof also provides questions that could be on the exam during lecture, so take pictures of those and study them. She is extremely helpful, especially if you have her for lab.
Videos are the KEY to passing! Watch and understand them BEFORE the lecture! Be ahead or get things done on time because there are a lot of extra credits that can be missed when procrastinating. Extra credits help out a LOT!! Take notes of the question/answer given in class (helps in exams). She emphasizes/lectures thoroughly on topics on exams.
Watch lecture videos before the in-person lecture, take pictures of in-class practice questions, and make sure to take note of what she emphasizes. Tests are based on video info and in-class info so do not skip classes. You can pass this class with an A if you put in the hard work, use a game plan, and turn to study groups. Do the EXTRA CREDIT!
This is a very hard class! I even had to retake it & i passed w/ a B the second time around. You have to study in advance, watch the videos and take notes! i suggest before going to class to make questions out of the powerpoint and answering them in lecture so that can be ur study guide! Lab is very important as well so pick a good lab partner.
This is by far the hardest class I've taken. I even had to retake and luckily I passed this class. Best advice is to watch her lecture & lab videos before class and don't fall behind. I highly recommend reading the textbook and use the study guide from the textbook which helped me pass this class. Best of luck in this class
I took Dr. Rojas' course over the summer, and I must acknowledge that it proved to be one of the most demanding classes I have taken. Witnessing fellow students withdrawing from the course was a common occurrence, prompting me to ponder my own potential fate. Study study study. Goodluck to anyone taking her class.
She was not clear at all whenever she answered questions. You had to memorize every.single.thing. on the lectures to do well on her tests and but she did give extra credit. Worst teacher I've had for my science courses yet and the only one I've failed.
Micro is a very hard subject no matter what school you take this course at. She gives you a maximum 20 points EC in lecture. She also gives EC on the exams that do not count to the 20 points and drops an exam. Take good notes, watch her prerecorded videos, and ask questions. Lab may seem scary at first but she is very good at demonstrations.
The hardest class I have taken. Make sure you memorize the lecture and her lecture videos word for word because she will try everything to confuse you on the exam. Her exams were also online and can only do one question at a time. So you can't even go back and check your answer. The extra credit also does little push to your grade.
I have to admit this professor knows her microbiology! but, she does not give study guides, we practically need too make our own. This subject is hard as it is , and she does not even try to make it more understandable. her own words " its your grade not mine". she is the ONLY professor that teaches micro in cerritos which sucks.
very unprofessional, should be fired. When I tried getting into her course, she would not respond to any emails
Not the worst, but be ready to read, watch pre-recorded lectures and make notes, study them over as exams are detail oriented. Lots of things to remember, seems like she could careless for the students, as says her class must be a priority and its not her grade its ours, etc. But an A is doable with harddddd work. Be cautious.
Professor Rojas expects the students to know everything already and makes you come up with the answers and everything on lecture as we go. All the work and research has to be done by ourselves and there's no care about those who have struggle. She thinks we all great at it, while some of us are just exposing to this new language. Part-time student.
Professor Santos Rojas knows her stuff, but the class is no easy feat. Stay on top of the lectures, read the textbook, and use resources like Quizard and unstuckstudy to ace the exams. Attend all classes - it's worth it to understand the material.
She makes the exam so tricky on purpose and takes forever to grade. She tells us "give me a break I have a life too" and she makes us look dumb when we ask questions and tries to embarrass us.
Whatever you do, do not take this class even if it's your last resort, she knows how to teach but she does not care about her students and this class was already hard and she made it worse. We didn't even have a tutor. I would say if you don't work take this course and prioritize it because when you ask her questions she confuses you
Save yourself the trouble and take a different professor. She is the WORST professor. She does not care about you if you have trouble or are failing the class. She gives HARD exams and barely any extra credit points. She does not want her students to succeed at all. Do not waste your time and take her or else you will end up retaking the class.
I was nervous about taking this class because of the bad reviews but it ended up being one of my favorite classes I've taken at Cerritos. Rojas is very kind and her exams are straightforward. It's a level 200 class so of course it's not going to be easy but as long as you focus and study, you'll be fine. She provides plenty of extra credit as well
I was really nervous durring my first exam because idek how people be out here getting 125/115 on an exam even when i studded a whole lot, once i started rewatching the lectures and volunteering in class it helped me push through, i loved this class and when she told me i have potential i locked in its a hard course but allot of material to learn
Rojas isn't a bad professor she teaches and helps if needed. Watch her videos and take notes before class it will help a lot going in and having the information repeated. There's a lot to learn and personally flash cards helped me but start making them early if that's the plan. Stay on top of things it can be overwhelming she's also very specific.
She intentionally makes her exams harder , not good at explaining subjects at all
i have no idea why professor rojas is still teaching here, she must have a pension because she is genuinely the most difficult professors i have ever had. this is my second time taking her class because I failed the first time, and it is looking the same. She makes her exams difficult, you have better luck trying a different school. do not take her
I really don't understand why Cerritos College continues to have this professor teaching such an important class. Most students don't learn because they're just trying to pass a class that Dr. Rojas makes so difficult. They leave no other option but to go to another college for this class. It's a shame.
I took Dr. Rojas class and let me say I thoroughly enjoyed her class. She's strict but she is very passionate about what she does and eventually warms up to the students. She is straightforward with lectures and I recommend watching her videos and taking good notes. It's really not so bad at all. She also offers so much extra credit !!
Personally, I loved taking Dr. Rojas's class. The class content itself is difficult, but her teaching materials are so organized and there's so much study material she provides for us that it's hard to hate the subject. Honestly, I didn't even really use the book b/c studying from her slides alone was enough to understand. Would take again!!!
Dr. Rojas is very professional about how she conducts her class and you can tell how knowledgeable she is about microbiology. There are no study guides but her slides and lecture videos are enough to help you understand. Watch her videos before lecture and stay on top of your studying. She gives plenty of extra credit on her tests and assignments.
I loved taking MICR200 with Dr. Rojas. Her lectures are clear and organized. It is undeniably tough material, but studying consistently (and with study groups) helps. You MUST regularly review the material to memorize and understand, otherwise, you will struggle. Dr. Rojas can come off as abrasive, but she genuinely wants you to succeed.
Worst micro professor there is. She intentionally makes exams harder than they have to be. I dropped her class and now I'm taking micro with another professor at another college & it was the best decision I could've made. She does not help her students to succeed instead she sets them up for failure on purpose! Avoid taking her if you can .
The WORST WORSSSSSSTTTTT
Professor Rojas is very tough and particular. She is not approachable and expects you to know everything from the modules and syllabus otherwise don't bother her attitude. You have to dedicate to studying at least 2 hours everyday to do well in her class. Simple mistakes she will call you out and question you for it and its quite embarrassing.
Professor Rojas is on a power trip. She expects you to know all the information in a day. I do not recommend. She is a tough grader and did not make this class enjoyable.
Professor Rojas was great. The course is definitely hard, and no one should expect it to be easy. However, if you study and come to class prepared, you can pass. She provides videos of what you will be doing in the lab, which is super helpful. The lecture exams are hard, but there are a few extra credit opportunities.
Rojas is a smart woman but is the WORST I have ever had in my years here.EXTREMELY tough grader and is PICKY.Cant use it,the, them = 0 even if ur answer is right. has ex cred. 20pts doesn't do much for you.Ex: you have a 85 to get a 90 you need 50pts not 5. Have trouble studying?take this class elsewhere. If you want to study 15hrs min a week, enjoy.
I'm not going to lie, I'm relieved to have completed this course because it required a tremendous amount of dedication and consistency. To earn an A, I studied at least 4 hours daily, reviewed her videos on weekends, and made study guides for the exams. Professor Rojas can be intimidating, but her high standards pushed me to learn and succeed.
