Very nice teacher. Class usually gets out pretty early. Talks fast in lectures and you have to copy down slides the entire time. be prepared to write! tests arent too bad, but there is always something she doesnt put on the study guide which hurts you on the test. Would avoid class if possible
Tests are kinda hard lot of info on the tests, interesting lectures, very hands on, lot of outside reading. Overall good class!
If you ever need help, go to her office, she's very willing to help. Go to class, a lot is covered. Out of class work is easy to do, never took too long. Talk in class, she'll rememebr you and give you good grades.
Boring Class, Tests are Hard, Gives LOTS of extra credit. Go to class and do all the projects and you can easily get an A in the class even if u do bad on the tests
Very good teacher, I enjoyed going to class for the most part. There is a lot of writing, all of her lectures include Powerpoint. She was very helpful and the homework was not stressful. Tests are fairly easy if you study for them. Would take her class again.
Nice person and goes very indepth about the subject, but the tests are hard. The tests could be slightly easier, but overall she is a good teacher.
Extreme superiority complex. Completely free of apathy. I would recommend avoiding this teacher at all costs. I'm an A and B student almost graduated and had to take her class for a required credit. I'm not sure what I received yet, but do know that a B is impossible for me now. TONS of busywork. If the devil had a last name, it would be KEOUGH.
Fair teacher as long as you go to class and do the work you will get an A. The thing I liked the most is that she is fair if she knows that you put forth the effort she will go easy on other things.
Dr.Keough is an great prof. She gives you the chance to print out the lectures,so it makes taking notes really easy. Also, she gives clear expectations and review sheets for tests making it pretty easy to study. Some test questions are a little hard and not straight from the review, but overall she's a great teacher who wants her students to learn.
I loved taking Dr. Keough for this course. Very knowledgeable on the subject. Assignments are not hard. Tests are challenging but can be passed if you follow the study guide. Make sure to attend class as she covers a lot during each lecture. Outside of class she is very friendly and willing to talk with you about class, school or life in general.
ruthless. take the pantyhose off and stuff them down your mouth.if she was friendly, she'd be maybe decent. but the worst part: she is not intelligent and i know more about geography than her. seriously!
classes taught require work, but if you attend all classes and do all the homework (current events) and dedicate some study time its not bad. she has no remorse about attendance. very strict policy.
Wonderful! She expects a lot out of her students but if you attempt to have some sort of class discussion and sound like your trying to fit the pieces together than the class will be interesting and fun! Sometimes she runs the class a little as if it were high school and that can be irritating. But overall she is a good professor.
Worst teacher i have experienced in my 3 years of college. Has no compassion and doesnt provide in class help at all. Thinks she is superior to all and is very pompous... AVOID..AVOID...AVOID...AVOID...Avoid!
She is on an a complete power trip. Everything has to be her way. She runs the class like shes teaching highschool students. You never get out early either, no matter what.
She has a tendency to make the class and content more difficult than it really is. She grades very hard, is a stickler for spelling, and acts high and mighty. It is very clear that she believes she is more intelligent than her students, and teaches accordingly. She offers extra credit, however, and you'll need it...guaranteed. Avoid if possible!
YIKES, she graded a 100 level like a 300 level. Attendence is mandatory and ALWAYS be on time. Shes a stickler for details on the tests and papers. She does give a lot of extra credit, and you can re-submit your papers and the busy work counts as easy grades.I wouldn't take her again, and I wouldn't reccomend her to freshman-but I've had worse.
Great professor. Strict and tough on her grading, but engaging and provides plenty of extra credit.
Easy class if you pay attention, be ready to take plenty of notes on the overhead though. DON'T BE LATE, DON'T MISS CLASS. I had an A in the class until I was late a few times and missed 2-3 times, attendance brought me down to a C, which I thought was ridiculous. Lose 20 POINTS (out of 100) for each absence after 1 or 2, tardys add up to absences.
Class was fairly simple... as long as you do the homework, reading assignments, went to class (very strict about attendance), and paid attention you will do well. She offered a lot of extra credit opportunities. It was a 3 hour class and most of the time we left 10-20 minutes early each class. I would take her again.
I did not like Prof Keough. I received a good grade in her class because I worked hard. This is college; you should be pushing yourself. I had an issue with Keough's attitude. She mentioned constantly how she was a "highly educated female" and constantly bragged about trips she had went on. She also yelled at anyone who so much whispered in class.
Where to start? I think she has an inferiority complex given how she has to assert how good she is. If she was really that good, why can't she teach better? She's ok in the class if you're willing to suffer her incessant discussion of how great she is and how poor you are.
The class really isnt that bad...do the work (you hardly have to study)...she teaches through powepoints and really explains stuff very well. Every class period she goes through what we learned last class. Sure she thinks she is better than you..and dont ever be late or leave class!! haha other then that she isnt that bad. Do the work and your fine
350 words would not begin to scrape the surface in detailing the tragedy of this sociopathic trip I had to take in 'Doctor' Keough's Geography 202! class.
She is strict, but if you are respectful and she sees that you're making an effort, she usually lends you a hand. I didn't do well on the tests, but my paper & environmental logs picked up the slack. Either study hard for the tests, or write well-written papers with no grammar/citation issues.
She's a strict teacher. Do exactly what she wants. Write 1 paper, 6 environmental logs. Make sure you site and write them correctly. Allows revisions, which helps your grade. Study hard for the tests, but gives study guides to help. Very helpful teacher, she likes to see you make an effort. She tends to go easier on you if you make an effort.
Good professor, tests are hard, but offers 50+ extra credit points. Lots of work but if you do it then it should be an easy A.
Did not smile the whole semester, test and class in general is harder than it should be for a 100-level class, She has no compassion and if you can not follow the directions SPECIFICALLY, you will get a bad grade!
Terrible teacher. Isn't willing to help you with anything. Way to hard for 100 level class.
Not a fair grader. Seems a bit petty. When students understand the concepts it shows in their answers. Exactness is less important. This is supposed to be about us, not her.
If I was a freshman student coming straight out of high school or returning back to school and when I took her, I would not come back to college again. It is all about her. She is rude and disrespectful. I do not recommend her as a teacher. If you ask her a question, she does not directly answer it at all. You are more confused than every. NO!
She's a hard teacher BUT she's a great teacher. She has lots of personal experiences to share for those who want to hear them. She helps those who care to get help and is particular about her assignments. But she's a great teacher, very smart, and expects a lot out of every student. A good challenge!
she is knowledgeable in Geography. my complaint would be how hard she cracks down on tardiness and missing class. you can have one freebee to miss then you get docked...she also talks a mile a minute and never slows down. if you miss one day you are screwed for notes unless you know someone who takes good ones.
Worst teacher i have ever ran into i thought the reviews i read on here were people just over exaggerating but she is very rude and has no feelings at all. Dont you dear address her wrong by not saying her full title name she will bit your head off. AVOIDDDDDDDD seriously Class is hard because of her otherwise class would be great
I read her reviews before this term and thought it couldn't be that bad...it's worse. She knows her stuff but she is an impossible teacher to please. She will find something wrong with anything. She is rude, is arrogant and implies that your stupid any chance she gets. It is possible to do decent in her class but honestly AVOID if possible.
Do not take her unless u want to be constantly stressed out and worrying about your grade in the class...i wont eve take her for any class ever agin
I took this class over the summer because I go to a different school the rest of the yer. Honestly, other than being very strict on attendence she really is not that bad of a professor. I worked full time and took 2 other classes and i still got an A-. Study guides for exams will ensure a good grade. Not that hard to get atleast a B or B+
Train wreck. Worst teacher ever. She's hard for no reason
This prof is absolutely CRAZY!! She sierously is psycho! Attandance is EXTREMELY mandatory and if you leave during class, she will call you out in front of everybody and if you text in her class...RUN! Her tests are nit picky and if you get a letter or two switched around in a word she will mark it wrong! DO NOT TAKE HER!
Dr. Keough was a very helpful teacher. If you go to her office hours she will help you with anything you need. Tests are easy if you learn everything on the study guide. There is a lot of busy work, but a lot of extra credit that is time consuming if you need it as well. I thought she knew was she was talking and cared about her students.
I hated this class. I dreaded coming. There is a lot of work involved and the reading is really hard! you will NOT pass the reading quizes if you havent read the material. She isn't a horrible teacher. I ended up doing well in the class. As long as you do the work like she wants it you will be fine. though i will not be taking a class with her agai
NEVER AGAIN! this prof is really wierd. Very hard and if you really did the work RIGHT you will pass but anything that looks wrong is wrong, she has a way to make you feel dumb and less confident. if you have her GOOD LUCK!
You are all lazy. WELCOME TO COLLEGE. do your parents also walk you to class holding your hand? Dr. Keough is a great teacher, but wait...oh. my. god. She expects you to show up, take notes, and turn in assignments on time. IMAGINE THAT. this isn't pre-school, people. Do you want a job someday? Better start trying harder than you obviously have
Dr. Keough was an excellent teacher. She keeps the class under control, and holds our interest. She provides an array of materials to read, videos having to do with the regions we study, etc. Her tests are not easy, but if you attend class, take good notes, and pay attention, you will do fine. Great class!
Study guides spell out exactly what's on exam. Guide to show how to do current event assignments. Tons of office availability. And yes...expects students to do some work!!!! Contrary to other posts, she does smile, does have a sense of humor, and does want students to succeed. Followed the guides and earned almost 100 on every test and assignment.
SBK tries hard, but this just isn't her thing. As mentioned before, she'd be really good with Middle School students. I'm serious.
Keough was very clear while presenting her lectures, however she was very tedious when it came to how she graded exams, homework, in class work, and even extra credit. She was by far my worst professor at svsu so far, and I will never take her again. She should be teaching elementary school, or in another country.
Professor Keough is a good professor and has a lot of interesting stories to share. My only qualm was her incredibly strict attendance policy. Make sure you are very punctual (and walking in 1 minute late will not cut it!). Otherwise, not a bad prof.
I'm only about half way through the course, but let me tell you, this class is hard and not much fun! I had no interest entering the class and I have no interest in the class now. The reading and the quizzes along with them are difficult and she is very picky when it comes to grading. Good luck, but I definitely do not recommend her!
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She is great at teaching and her lectures aren't awful, but her grading is inconsistent and unfair. It doesn't matter how much effort you put into something, she is likely to fail you for something barely related to the actual assignment. Her grading is inconsistent and unfair. DON'T TAKE!
Professor Keough was probably the worst professor I've had so far. Her attendance policy is unreasonable and her homework load is not for anyone with a job and/or other classes. Her tests are almost impossible and there is virtually no preparing for them. I do not recommend her.
Dr. Keough does have a great knowledge on world geography. I had no problem with the work load or the lectures. However, her attendance policy is unreasonable. The amount of points she deducts for an absence is unfair. I would advise not to take her. She has realistic expectations and a lack of compassion for her students.
Unless you are able to make it 10 min early to every class, and spend hours on assignments don't take her! Her Attendance policy it outrageous, and her extra credit will only earn about 2 points, not making up for the 60 she deducts for being 5 minutes late twice! Doesn't seem to care about students, and treats you like a high school kid.
Her personality is a bit lacking and she can be pretty strict, but I work hard because I'm not happy with anything less than an A. If you want easy, look somewhere else. Personally, I thought the class was an easy A, but I think I was the exception rather than the rule.
Dr. Keough can be strict and a tough grader, but she wants you to do well. She is very helpful during office hour and tests are not that hard. Take good notes and pay attention during movies and you will do fine on the tests. This is college so expect to do some work. A lot of people complained about the class, but I did not find it to bad at all.
Dr. Keough is a great professor, and is willing to help if you show her that you are trying. Tests are difficult, but they should be at this level. I had a great experience with her, and I really learned a lot. She has amazing time management skills, and it shows in class. Certainly one of the best professors i've had at SVSU.
Expects you to do good work, but it was very doable if you follow the guides. Fairly easy to get a good grade. Take good notes from the slides and videos and study! You are required to do work for this class. Very important to attend class. Gives great extra credit opportunities. Overall, very much liked her and this class. Would recommend.
She has a type "A" personality. She expects quite a bit from students, but if you do what she says and study, you have no problem. Follow the guidelines on assignments, take advantage of extra credit opportunities, and study for tests.
She is tough. She speaks really fast. Not enough handouts. 99.9% of the time is taking notes. Out of all the professors and teachers I've ever had, she is the worst and hardest. Test are not multiple choice but short answers or essays. And you HAVE TO be present or she marks you. Too much for 3 cr.
She is has fantastic knowledge of Geography but she is not meant to be a teacher. She is hard on what she expects from students and everything a student has to memorize. She packs so much information to an exam it is overwhelming.
Very intelligent professor, organized, and knows exactly what she is talking about. She is a very hard grader when it comes to the exams. When studying for the exams, it's pretty self explanatory. It is very importan to stay the whole 3 hours. She is a good teacher, but a little too strict.
Extremely boring class. Exams are pretty tough. She will test you on things you never discuss in class, like cities and physical features. Will give boring presentations on her trips then test you on them. I would recommend a different teacher.
Just don't take her and spare yourself the hassle. May be the worst professor SVSU has to offer outside of the math department. Extremely boring notes and her trip slides are ridiculously boring. Again, just take someone else for the course.
She is a hard grader. I did better on reading quizzes when I didn't read before the quiz. Her tests aren't too bad if you're good at memorizing a bunch of information that you don't care about. She is super picky and not interesting at all. Would not recommend.
Strict like middle/high school. Only take her if you are serious about learning and want to take the best advantage of the money you paid. She is a wonderful person. I personally met her now 1 year old son. Her class is a bit much for 3 cr, but I'm not complaining since I did learn so much. Her approaches to people around the world is eye-opening.
Absolutely awful. Unclear with her expectations and the hardest grader i've ever had. This is my 4th year at the university. Very rude sge called me out in front of other students bashing my presentation. Shortly before that while on a break other studebts whom i didnt even know told me they loved it.
Personally I really liked the way this class was set up. Extra credit is given by answering questions in class and on homework quizzes. She provides a study guide with all the information you need for your exams. Although the slideshow lectures weren't the most interesting, the class wasn't difficult. You must show up to every class period.
She was a bit too hard for a 200 level geo class and even the exams were tough.
I thought Dr. Keough's lectures were interesting and was very insightful into studying the regions we were covering. I loved this class.
I should have listened to this website! I looked up the professor, but needed the class so I took it anyway and now I will proabably not pass and will have to take again. You can get 100% on EVERYTHING, but if you don't do well on the paper, you fail the whole class! Most of the class dropped before the paper was due because she is such a tough grader and expects you to memorize packets of reading plus handouts, notes, etc. Exams are full of short answer and essays. MISERABLE!! I tried to stick it out and I shouldn't have. Maybe the next student will listen.
I've taken her before and she was way easier in my previous classes. Because this is a CI course she assigns a ton more work like long reading assignments and weekly discussion boards. However, if you're willing to put in the work she is extremely helpful and you can get an A.
Be prepared to hear all about her trips. She uses videos and things from her trips on exams. Exams are multiple choice, fill in the blank, short answer and sometimes an essay. Lectures were quite dull. If you didn't answer questions in class, there seemed to be no hope, also expect a 'Current Events' every other week. Long story short-rough class.
I have already earned a bachelor's degree from SVSU, so please believe me when I say I have encountered a majority of the faculty here in some capacity. Dr. Keough is by far the WORST professor at SVSU. To start, she is egotistical (bordering on pure arrogance), condescending, and unrealistic. Do yourself a favor and AVOID HER CLASS!
She is by far the worst professor I've ever had. Told us on the first day of class that if we had a full course load and a job we would fail. She wasn't kidding. Inconsistent grading, rude, and unhelpful. Have a question? "Check the syllabus" is her only answer. Save yourself the headache and AVOID
If you can take this class with a different professor I would advise it. Dr. Keough is extremely knowledgable and I believe very nice. But, her class is taught as if it would be a 400 level course. The amount of detail needed to memorize for exams is excruciating. You will need to study every night to do well...
I enjoyed professor Keough. She was straight forward and made the class interesting. If you didn't pay attention in class you'd fail but if you did and you showed up you could get an easy A or B. Only quizzes are extra credit and has 3 exams all year. Grades are mostly homework which is easy. I would suggest her.
Keough's class was fairly easy. The only reason I am giving her a bad rating is because she does not respect students whatsoever & spends time talking about her personal travels. She was rude to students in my class multiple times & was rarely polite. She spent class periods discussing her travels and you were expected to know that for exams.
really tries to intimidate you at first, it took a while to get used to how she grades, the timed quizzes, and the random turn in times for things (4 in the afternoon for example) but once I figured things out the class wasn't to bad. There is a lot of reading required but they are all articles and no book.
Hardest teacher I ever took at SVSU. I am almost done with my 2nd year here at SVSU, and Professor Keough is by far the hardest teacher I ever had. Please safe yourself time, and avoid having her as your professor.
Avoid this professor!! She is extremely rude and makes you feel bad about yourself constantly. It is a complete overload of work, especially if you take the class in the spring. She has unrealistic expectations and I have never been so overwhelmed with work. I have never had such a tough class and this is my third year at SVSU!
Professor Keough seemed like she was very hard to impress, but if you put in effort, the class is pretty easy and you wont have a problem with her! As long as you actually try you will be fine! She offers extra credit through reading quizzes as well as on exams. Would highly suggest you go to office hours for her to check your assignments.
Dr. Keough really knows her stuff. She's a good teacher, but her class is a lot of work. She gives a lot of extra credit, so if you do your work and the extras she hands out in class you'll be fine.
By far the worst professor in the Geography department. Assigns an overload of work, and believes that he class is the only important going on. Is not flexible, or understanding in most situations. Overly complicates the process of learning.
She knows what she is talking about but she never takes the students life into account. If you have other classes that requires a lot of work I would avoid her. The quizzes we take will take you about 2 hours just to read the content you need to read because all her quizzes are timed.
I actually learned a lot about how to do a proper research paper in this class. She can be a bit abrasive at times but overall she is a very solid educator. Youll have to put in the work for this class. Definitely not an easy grade.
I took GEOG202! and this CI class kicked my butt. I've had CI classes before, but she is next level. You take quizzes before almost every class & discussions every week. She assigns a final research paper of your choice. One of the best papers I've ever written and she gave me a terrible grade. She gives tough grader a new defintion.
Doctor Keough was a very nice professor as long as you gave her respect, she can seem intimidating but she is nice! She expects a lot from you especially on the Research Paper and she seemed to be a tough grader on certain things. She gives many opportunities for Extra Credit so take her up on that and don't slack. Weekly quizzes and discussions.
Professor Keough is a very rude professor. Although I did not have a hard time in the class, many other students could not keep up with her work load. She does offer lots of extra credit opportunities, but her attitude as a professor made me feel uncomfortable asking her questions and I did not enjoy the way she treated her students.
Dr. Keough is by far the worst professor in the Geography department, and maybe the worst at SVSU. She assigns readings every night and forces you to take notes (1 page of notes per 5 pages of reading) and then grades you on your notes (with no clear grading pattern). Avoid any of her classes at all costs, and do not dare take 2 classes at once.
this class is a joke. turn in the work then youll suddenly have an important exam. good luck
Worst professor I've ever had. If I could give 0/5, I would. I follow the exact requirements she provides in her rubrics, and still get failing grades on assignments that I've poured hours into. Very unreasonable when it comes to assignments. I was sick and she offered no extra time on my assignments at all. Please do not have her as a professor.
Dr. Keough is very organized, gives great lectures, and is extremely knowledgeable. That being said, she also expects a lot from her students (in the best way possible). This is not an easy A class, but if you put in effort, read, take good notes, and study outside of class, you will do just fine. I am glad I was able to have her as my professor.
This is a general education class that will be the biggest waste of time and energy you will ever experience in college. Pick something else. There is no reason a general education class worth three credits should require such excruciating attention to detail. This is your warning, if you take this class after reading this it's your fault.
Not personally a fan. For a Geog class it is made much harder than it really should be. Also have had a rough time getting in contact with her and when I am able to get a response, she just seems flat out rude to me for asking a simple question or making a small mistake. Been very frustrated this entire semester.
Dr. Keough is horrible. I cannot tell you how big of a waste of time her class is. She expects wayyyyy too much of her class, I'm not a geography major, this class is just a GEN ED for me. I suffered all semester with her, with this year being COVID, her class was all online, maybe an in-person class with her would've been better, but I'm not sure.
I HEAVILY recommend you do not have her as a professor, especially if you are an incoming Freshman. I wouldn't blame people for never wanting to take college courses again if this is one of your first professors. We only learned about Canada and very briefly learned about the U.S and never Mexico, despite the class being "North American GEOG"
The worst possible case scenario for any incoming freshman looking to get gen eds out of the way would be to have Dr. Keough. If you need extra help in her class might as well as a brick wall as she will not respond to you, even for reasonable requests like additional feedback on tests. On the off chance, she does respond she is flat-out rude.
You constantly have busy work. Multiple assignments outside of what is due just to ask a question on the exam. Lots to know on exams other than textbook learning; articles, videos, movies. This class was hybrid due to covid, although she taught everything online which was annoying. If I would've known this I would have not taken her. Learned some.
Forgot to make a rating for the Fall '20 semester, but my goodness is this class bad. Never in my life have I met a more unreasonable and flat out rude professor. Follow the EXACT specifications & you end up with a 50%. Discussion board responses seem to be graded at random and the readings take forever. If you can't switch your professor, RIP
Don't take any of her classes. Just don't. Save yourself from the stress and anxiety attacks that her classes cause and take literally any other GEOG class. I'm a senior and had to take this class for one last gen-ed credit from a scheduling mistake and this is the only class I've EVER had to drop because of how bad she is. Don't do it.
I don't understand how a class titled "North American Geography" can focus solely on Canada. We never once learned about Mexico and only briefly touched on the U.S. Besides this, I've never had a professor that was so rude and demanding of her students. Her grading patterns are never clear and she takes days to respond to important emails.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. I don't recommend taking this class unless necessary. With her weekly discussions, she just gives random grades, and when I ask her what she can do to get a better grade for the next one she never replied to the email. She is very rude. The tests are open book, but you are not given enough time to finish.
Prof Keough is one of the worst teachers I've had. She is an extremely hard grader and has hours of lecture every week. The tests are recorded and you get 45 min for 20+ questions including lots of short answers and paragraph answers. She assigns lots of articles and lectures about herself and her travels rather than the actual materials.
For a general ed class, the amount of work was crazy. She expected 18 hours of work outside of the class and her assignments reflected it. There were 6 exams all recorded. If she would have just stuck to the book and assignments directly from that, it would have been a good class. Random discussion post that was graded critically. DO NOT take her!
This was an asynchronous class that was extremely challenging. All text required is provided by professor online. Timed quizzes are given after each reading (short time given; requires very specific answers), followed by other assignments, and three large exams. Final paper and presentation are assigned as well and require a time commitment!
Worst professor at SVSU hands down. There is absolutely no reason that a Gen Ed class should be the hardest class that you take in your college career. A ridiculous work load paired with an unclear grading pattern. All things considered, this professor is rude and takes days to respond to the most basic of questions through email. Avoid this class
I always try to find positives in professors, but I can't find any with her. I don't want to be rude, but this professor is not very professional when it comes to responding to questions both in person and through e-mail. Her responses are often rude and demeaning to her students, which creates a classroom of students afraid to ask questions.
She is very rude to students who ask questions or make mistakes. I did not feel safe asking her for help.
10/10 do not recommend. She is very rude to students. Not allowed to ask questions in class. Loads of work to be done. Exams do not match up, very very harsh grader for no reason. This class is too much work to be just a 200 level course.
I got up to go to the restroom once without asking (because I'm a grown man) and she yelled at me to sit back down and not to interrupt her class, then went on a long rant about respect. I was sitting in the VERY back of the room and distracted nobody. I sent a complaint to the Dean, but he sided with her. She should be fired, but what do I know
Most rude, demanding, and obnoxious professor I've ever had. She's VERY rude. I have no clue how I managed the workload for this class. I've never had to work so hard for so little in my whole life. It was a 3 credit class, but I've had MUCH less work for some 4 credit classes. SHE GRADED OUR NOTES!!! Oh, did I mention that she's rude?
she is very harsh on attendance and the exams are super hard but passable if you study a lot. so much reading before class with required notes to turn in
This class had me so sad and stressed out beyond belief. I have NEVER met a teacher/Professor so unwilling to help and grade so hard that it's almost impossible to pass this class. My advice is if you want have your anxiety attacked then this class is for you; if not then run as far as you can away and DO NOT LOOK BACK!
Keough was very challenging and strict. I did not find her to be exceptionally rude although it seems many others had. I did have a problem at the end of the semester where she gave my classmate a high letter grade than me even though his total percentage was less than mine. Would not recommend because work load was extreme to say the least.
Great prof! Learned a lot!
She does give lectures in class, but also expects you to read outside of class. Her tests are very specific, but she does allow room for extra credit. Many people did not like her, but I truly enjoyed her class and she always treated me with respect. Treat her with respect and she gives it back to you.
She is overall a nice person, but she has very strict rules for operating her class. If not followed it causes for discouragement. Everything is due at 10 am. Her word count is strict, if you don't meet it, it is an automatic zero. If you skip class, you miss a whole chapter. It is a good idea to get a study partner to compare notes.
Not kind at all. Exams are extremely difficult, study every little detail no matter how old. Good notes are a must which wouldn't be too bad if they were posted online since she goes through slides very quickly. A good side is that if you do your homework on time and do it well, you can end up with a decent grade even if you do okay on the exams.
Dr. Keough is a nice person but she expects too much from an introductory Urban Geography course. We had to go to meetings for an urban organization, and then write a 15-page paper on that organization. Ridiculous.
Very poor professor. Reading, writing, and presenting for this course took up more time than every other course this semester COMBINED. There is absolutely no excuse for a 200-level course to have a heavier workload than three 300-level courses combined. Also, she grades notes, which is ridiculous, and is pretty rude at times.
Sara Beth is a great teacher who is very knowledgeable. HOWEVER, if you're looking to knock out prereqs and think this will be an easy class you're wrong. I would recommend her classes to students who are passionate about geography. If you are looking to knock out a required course and have no actual passion for geography I would not recommend.
I have had this class my first year as a general education prerequisite. At the beginning of the semester everything was fine until the test grading was heavy, and she became extremely strict on grading. I developed carpal tunnel, a repetitive hand motion injury from all the handwriting and notes we would take. Take this info as you will!
I took her geography of North America class in the spring online. She was so hard on grading with everything. We started the spring semester with 29 people and ended it with 9. So many people dropped her class, it was awful. She expected us to know everything she talked about and have it all ready for the exams.
Do not take this professor. She puts too heavy of a workload on college students and expects perfection. She is also a tough grader who will knock points off even if you try your hardest. Im warning you. Do not take her. Please. Do it for me.
The workload for this class is intense and she grades extremely tough, with minimal feedback. One of the larger assignments in class, saw the average be below 50%. That should tell you how well she prepares you and how tough she grades. I'd avoid this class if you can.
IF YOU ARE NOT A GEOG MAJOR DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This is a lecture-heavy class, go into it with great notetaking skills; you're not allowed to take pictures. Intense reading and homework outside of the class, so heavy studying is a requirement. Was singled often on occasion, stopping class for nothing despite the respect shown. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Dr. Keough's class is quite difficult for me. She is very strict person, but I enjoy her lectures such as her experiences and countries' culture. Don't take this class if you aren't very passionate about geography, because it's VERY difficult class.
Stay away from this class at all costs I took this class with the hopes that this would be a North American Geography course but it might as well be called Canadian Geography. Makes you turn in notes and if its not done to her specifications you get a bad grade which would be fair if she graded clearly which she doesn't please don't take this class
Mostly a pretty fair class, but the way she grades assignments is not clear at all. If you're a geography major the class will probably be very enjoyable (she has a lot of personal experience and the material is interesting), but the class is pretty hard for a freshman level class.
A lot of people don't like Dr Keough because she makes you understand the material. She isn't the most amicable person, but she teaches thoroughly and gives all the resources necessary to succeed. She gives extra credit for answering questions in class and there are little extra credit quizzes based on reading lists. I learned a ton in this class.
I can safely say this was the worst professor I've had at SVSU. The class is called "North American Geography" but 90% of the class focuses solely on Canada while the rest of North America is BARELY covered. The workload is unbearable for such a low-level course. She grades your notes (yes, your notes) and assignments with no clear pattern.
Dr. Keough is obviously a really intelligent person. You can't deny that if you've taken her class. However, the straight up amount of disrespect, harsh grading and quite honestly, ridiculous expectations of a level 200 GEO class is absurd. Only rated 2 instead of 1 because I respect her lectures.
This is by far one of the worst classes I have had at SVSU. She grades your notes, is awful to try to email for help, and never gives constructive feedback on assignments. She expects a ridiculous amount of perfection. She does offer extra credit which is good because you'll need it.
Absolutely terrible. Insane amount of work. Insane expectations for that work.
Never gave a reason as to why you would get a lower grade, wants at least 12 hours of outside work done for her class weekly, and doesn't clearly grade your work or stick to a fair grading scale.
She doesn't explain why you got a grade whether it is good or bad, and doesn't consistently grade everyone's paper the same way. If you think you're going to have any time for other classes you wont as she wants 12 hours outside of class for homework and notes per week.
Would not recommend.
RUN! Do not take this professor at all costs. She is the hardest professor I've ever had and this is my final semester. She grades harshly and will not hold back in making sure you do not pass her class. It seems like she has a chip on her shoulder and wants to make your life extremely hard for a 200-level class.
Please listen to the other reviews if you don't believe this one. You have to put in as much time for this class as you would an A&P class, her grading scale is never the same neither is it clear. It's honestly not worth the headache and grant/financial aid money to take this class, only to get a C with the insane amount of work you have put in.
Alot of people tend to dislike Mrs. Keough because of the work load and high expectations she has. But Mrs Keough gives lots of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester if you take advantage of them. If you email he frequently for feed back and stay on top of the work you will do well. I learned a lot of this class and don't regret it.
I honestly wouldn't mind the class if we were given more then 45 minutes for the exams. Even just making it an hour would at least make it possible to complete them. Besides that the content is fairly easy to understand but there are things like the discussion questions that have no real purpose other than to lower your grade.
She gives 45 minutes on 15 question exams which is bad when you consider 2 of them require paragraphs and the rest require a book reference. She gives discussion questions that are unreasonable and will certainly lower your grade. She also had the great idea to make the weekly due date on homework Sunday at noon. Enough said.
WORST prof! If you enjoy free time, weekends or peace/sanity, stay far away. Assignments due Sundays and the workload..insane. MEANINGLESS, FRUSTRATING, reading 20 page articles about pointless nonsense. NOTES are graded and if they are not up to her expectations (whatever that means), you will receive a big donut on that section (not literally) :(
I'm genuinely perplexed as to how she is still hired at SVSU with all of the complaints and blatant lack of respect towards her students. Additionally, her class format is ridiculously difficult for a 200-level course, requiring 12+ hours per week on pointless material very loosely relating to the course. Also she grades notes. Just a bad professor
I don't normally leave bad reviews but I want people to know what they're getting into. Your notes are graded with no grading criteria, you have to read a TON, and the final paper is vague and leaves you guessing. When I reached out for help she was kind of demeaning and basically told me that I “should know this already” but it was never covered.
Grades are subject to what she interprets. Unless you're planning on becoming a geographer and kissing butt, would not recommend this instructor to my worst enemy. Unclear what she demands and if it isn't to her standards then she gives zero credit instead of partial.
Avoid this class if possible. The workload is insane, with assignments due on Sundays and unclear grading criteria. However, Unstuck study could be a helpful study tool to tackle the challenging material.
Content heavy class. You have several things to do a week, including a lengthy reading. Notes are graded, tho she gives good feedback. She respects those who turn work in on time and do their best. Everything is graded pretty harshly. Exams are open note and she gives a review. This is not the class for you if you want an easy elective!
This professor gave me no credit for a question on a quiz because if a typo. She informed me I was correct and would've recieved full credit. She also wouldn't give me feedback on what I did wrong as “it's in the lectures”. So I often did not know what I was incorrect on. Grades notes. Doesn't tell you what she expects before grading you. Horrible.
She will make you feel degraded as a human being. Her exams are extremely hard even if you studied. The class averages were always 50% or lower on an exam. I would not recommend taking this class as a credit. As she is extremely difficult to work with.
Rude, bad attitude, and has no respect for her students nor their personal lives. 110% DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING HER. You will end up struggling.
This was the hardest class I have taken at SVSU and it is not even required. She grades everything way too hard, got 2/10 for 3 pages of notes and she labeled "incomplete". Excepts us to treat this class as a full time job and have no life outside. The exams are extremely hard and the average was below 50%. I WOULD NOT RECCOMMEND EVER!!
This professor is AWFUL. Her mail goal is to fail everybody. She wants things done HER way, even if doing things your way helps you succeed better in the class. Spent 8 hours writing a paper exactly how it says to on the rubric? Forget about it. I got a 60/100 on a paper and that was HIGHER than the class average.
This is the most difficult class I have taken at SVSU. She is a very harsh grader and is inconsistent. You have lengthy readings every week, lots of notes to take, quizzes and discussion posts. She did reply to emails in a timely manner and was willing to help. But overall, I reccomend steering away from this Professor if you want to pass.
She is a terrible professor, genuinely a mean spirited human. She doesn't want you to pass her courses. If you take her class it's like she expects that to be your only priority, her grading rubric is dependent on the mood she's in, she is an insanely bitter person who likes to feel superior than her students and She will talk down to you.
She does have a lot of readings and notes, but it encourages the students to be prepared before every class. Well-thought-out material, and she comes prepared. The projects are pretty big, but the expectations are clear. She will give you respect if you are not disruptive and put in effort into her class.
Professor Keough is incredibly intelligent and you will learn a lot from her if you apply yourself, it is a difficult course; however, it is not impossible to get a good grade. If you work hard it does not go unnoticed, she helps students who wish to succeed and gives quite a bit of extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Keough is difficult to work with and talks down to students. She is very educated in her field, however, it felt like she discouraged questions and was not clear or consistent in her grading. Her exam format was challenging, and I always ran out of time on exams. However, she did round my grade up from a B+ to an A- at the end of the semester.
Dr. Keough is one of the meanest professors I've ever had. It's clear she doesn't care about her students, while she is very smart she expects her students to devote all their time to her class. She is a very harsh grader, gives 0's for the slightest mistakes and takes down to you when you ask for clarity. Absolutely do not recommend taking her.
Do not take her if you can't have the free time to work ahead on assignments and spend between 12-18 hours a week for a 200-level course. Her grading is very subjective, even if you complete writing assignments following the syllabus, she'll give you a zero and give short responses like "Too vague". She's rude and won't change grades no matter what
My time with her was very disappointing. Extremely unclear expectations and front loads the class so that the first week is double the work. Grades your notes with no criteria. Tried meeting in person to try and understand how to succeed, but she told me she routinely fails half her students and was very unpleasant to speak with so I just withdrew.
I have tried giving benefit of the doubt. Dr Ke
Keough is the worst professor or teacher in general I've had, ever. She's intelligent, but her grading seems completely arbitrary, and when I spoke to her about her assignment guidelines she was condescending and unhelpful. She hasn't responded to a single one of my emails which were polite and correctly formatted, and doesn't use turnitin properly
Genuinely the worst professor I've ever had. She expects perfection for a simple geography class and class averages on big projects/exams were 50%. At that point it's a representation of the teacher. I've never came close to failing a class but I ended up dropping this class for a W grade. Please do yourself a favor and find a better use of time. L
Run!!!! Terrible Professor! Grading often feels unpredictable and unnecessarily harsh. You can invest time, effort, and attention to detail, only to see a score that does not reflect the quality of your work. The use of Turnitin also causes additional stress because it frequently flags original writing incorrectly, which then impacts your grade.
As a current PhD student who took a Gen Ed with her, I can safely say that I've never had such an unfair, unclear, and, quite frankly, rude professor. It's always a bad sign when a professor grades notes. It's super subjective because everyone learns differently, so her versions of “good notes” might be different than mine. Just avoid at all costs
