Book is used highly. Her lectures and powerpoints are helpful. tests consists of half lecture half book so attendance is mandatory. Grades on a HUGE curve. 60 is a "C" 75 is a "B". Interesting class. She's super funny, entertaining, and down to earth. Great class to take to complete physical science GE. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! EASY B
Awesome teacher! Easy to talk to and gets to know you on a personal level. Don't get intimidated by the first test, she makes it hard to weed out slackers. project is MAJOR chunk of grade. she goes over everything needed on the tests in class. be respectful during lectures and she will be nice to you. great class, awesome teach! thanks Sara!
She's fun but there's a lot of work to be done. THERE IS A 12 PAGE PAPER!! if writing isn't your thing don't take her..Attendance is mandatory!! if you don't come to class you will fail..SHE IS DOWN TO EARTH AND HELPFUL..FUN CLASS. Not and easy A...I got a B
don't take her if u dont like to read or come to class..take her if ur prepared to work..quizes every monday..4 tests..1 final..1 15pg paper..lots of hw..extra credit..she is passionate about geology!! good teacher
Everything has already been said about this excellent professor: first test is VERY hard to weed out slackers, grades on a curve, don't miss the labs and do your best on the project and it is very difficult to fail this class if you are a decent student that wants to learn. I learned so much about the earth and practical methods of environmental fr
I love her!
a truely awesome person and an exceptional professor
she is a really awesome person and a great teacher. i had no prior knowledge in geology and I learned a lot. Attendance is mandatory and you will miss out on a lot of notes if you miss a class. There is also a 12 page paper that is due, but she gives out plenty of ec. she also has a quiz every monday. Not an easy A, i got a B.
I read the comments people wrote about her and took her. But to my surprise she is nothing like what they said. She is HORRIBLE! Her review is bad. You cant bring your laptop to take notes. She is pretty vague and unclear in her lectures. BORING! AND NO XTRA CREDIT. She's annoying and hard to talk to. She has no interest in your grade. DONT TAKE HE
this class was very interesting and fairly easy. just one big paper to do in the middle of the semester. she gives you 3 tries to get an A so its not hard. definitely recommend this class
She's hella cool/cute teacher. Easy for a lab class but you gotta attend. Tests are based on book and you must study. Labs are super easy and worth alot of your grade. Presentation at the end. She's a great person, will make you interested in the earth and stuff like that; Sit in the front. Work with good people and you'll like the class. Easy B
Great Teacher! I selected her based on the reviews here and I was not disappointed. Read the book and pay attention in class and you will get a good grade. The lecture powerpoints are available on her website. It helps to read them before class. Her class was interesting but the 12 page paper was very time consuming.
The subject is kind of challenging but she makes it really intresting and she explains everything with a lot of detail and drawings. Best professor I've met at El Camino
She is sooooo cute and smart as a whip! You will change your major after taking her class, I did.
She's basically the best professor I've ever had at Elco. She's super helpful, intelligent and fun! Her positive energy and excitement for geology is so infectious. Key advice: review her powerpoints on the website and make use of the study guide!
BEWARE THERES A 10 PAGE PAPER!!! SHES SO SWEET AND HELPFUL THOUGH. THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR SLACKERS. HALF OF MY CLASS DIDNT PASS.
One of the nicest and easiest professors at ECC. Scored just below or well over 100% on every test. There's a paper, 7-10ish pages, but she doesn't demand much. Show up to class and get an effortless A.
i took her for oceanography this summer i couldn't find her other than in geo But if u are thinking of taking her in ocean ography she is an awesome teacher. She is helpful gives quizes to help u out on ur test and they do! everything on the quizzes wil b on the test. Take her n go to class if not ur grade will b affected.
She LOVES what she does and it comes across in class. She'll keep your interest, that's for sure.
she is the greatest. she will work with you to get you interested. she loves what she does and she loves to teach it. i havent been interested in the stuff since 3rd grade. im glad i choose her class. Thx Sara.
Though she may be cute, her teaching isn't. Her notes, and lectures where not helpful. I bought the book and never used it, and her lectures are very vague. Plus, she wouldn't let me make up quizes...
One of the best teachers i have ever had. Make it clear on the first day if you want to be called by a nickname you go by. Attend all classes because each day is not only exciting, but pack with alot of info that will be on the test. She might ramble on occasions, but it keeps the class fresh. Any probs just see her, she is a big help.
Had her in Geo 1 and 3. Highly recommend her. She loves what she does and is extremely helpful and knowledgable. She's a terrific people person and loves to interact with students. Geo 1 was not difficult there is a paper but it's relatively simple and Geo 3 is book work. She is so kind and likes to get to know her students on personal levels too.
Easy class for a science class. Basically you listen to lecture and do a lab and she glance at your work and give you the points. 3 Test, no final, no hw, 3 extra credit oppurtunities. I got a C, could have got a better grade but I was too focused on my other classes. I recommend you take this class. She let us out early most days. No book use!
Fairly easy class. Mainly lecture and lab, 3 tests, one presentation. We barely used the textbook. Prof Di Fiori is great! You couldn't hope for a nicer teacher!
nice teacher. very helpful and easy to talk to. easy class but you really have to put in the effort to get an A. study for exams and attend class everyday.
I absolutely love Sara! She is a very nice lady and genuinely cares about her students. She likes to get to know each student on a personal level and her happy personality makes the class very enjoyable. The tests are all short answer, but she is an easy grader. Lots of class activities, three tests and one presentation. Lots of field trips too!
Awesome teacher. A little dorky, but makes geology 1 really easy to understand with her drawings. Awesome for those visual learners. There is a paper, she's a tough grader, but if you go to SI and study you'll do fine.
Ive had some pretty bad teachers at Elco but by far is this one the worst. All she dose is draw on the board and thats how she expects you to learn everything and you can read the book for hours and for nothing because nothing you read will be on the test and it doesnt help that her lecture is only 15-45 mins. worst teacher ever DONTTAKE HERATALL
She is a very kind and a sweet person. Loves what she does and is very knowledgable. I think she grades on a scale so do well on the TEST. She's fair when it comes to passing the course also. Lets you work in groups and get the labs done. She's a cool teacher as long as you do what a student should do, study and go to class. You'll be fine!!
She is a great professor, very fun and intelligent. But do your work, study, and read! do what is expected of a 4 unit class. She is very helpful, you can go to her office hours and ask her any questions. Her study guide basically tells you what is on the test! memorize them! She curves the test and really helps students out if needed.
This class is fairly straightforward and it should be easy to get at least a B if you attend and take notes. The 10 page paper is not as bad as it sounds since about half of it will be images/diagrams. She also curves the tests, which definitely helps. This is a great course for anyone interested in earth science or in meeting the transfer req.
She is extremely friendly and interested in the subject. However, the study guides are hard to understand sometimes and the tests can be hard. The final presentation is fairly easy though. Just try hard and you will succeed.
Most points are in the labs, so you must attend class. Tests aren't easy, but she curves them. Professor Di Fiori is a really nice, chill teacher who is passionate about what she teaches. She's always there to help and shes cute. I definitely recommend her!
She is a pretty good professor, she knows the subject matter. Overall shes really nice, just do the labs, and do your best to study. If you read the book the class will be alot of fun.
She is a really sweet and kind person. She is the nicest professor I've had. The exams are tough so definitely make sure you do the study guides and read. Make sure to attend class everyday and do all the homework and labs. The field trips are the best part of the class! She is passionate about the subject and is very friendly.
Sara is probably the sweetest teacher at El Camino. Not an easy class but if you do the work you will pass. 4 tests, 1 presentation and labs. The labs are easy, she will just quickly look and give you credit, the tests are hard but get easier through the semester.
Her class was definitely fun, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. She's funny, and really interacts with the students instead of shutting the tangents down. The course material was interesting, but if you're not passionate about geology you're going to have to work a bit harder to retain the material and get through it all. Fun group projects, fun class
Show up in class everyday and review all the quizzes online will get you higher than C without studying. The tests are based on quizzes and anything that she lectures or draws. Easy A, and finals are all multiple choice. She's definitely a kind professor that just wants you to have a good time.
She is alright but be expected to work hard in her class. She is fair when it comes to passing the course because there will be many opportunities to pass the course and she will answer any questions that you ask her but when it comes to learning the material you will have to learn it on your own.
You would need to be an expert in her class to do well in her class. The class is not only on tests but other assignments as well. If you have any questions she will answer the questions and she is friendly however her lectures are confusing and short. Study very hard in her class because her class is difficult.
Her lectures are short and simple, but you can ask her anytime, she is a super nice pro. Most time we have to find the answers by ourselves, however, the exams are easy, and she is always generous on giving extra credits.
I have to say her class you need to put in the effort to study for her class because her tests are not easy. She is a understanding person which is great whenever you need to ask her questions and to pass her class there are many chances for you to pass but study hard for the tests.
She is sweet and wonderful. If you need a lab requirement science class take her and when you have her class you will get use to it. Definitely study for the exams and you will do fine. There will be exams, presentation, and lab activities.
Sara does NOT teach, rather just gives you an assignment and expects you to complete it. In one semester my class only had 4-5 lectures, the rest was on us. Class was 3 hours long and boring. The way to get an A is to: Show up to EVERY(!!!) class, ATTEMPT to do the work, Keep up with her website HW, Study well for tests and you can sneak out an A.
The best Oceanography professor I have ever had. Her grading scale is fair and you have many chances to pass the class. She lectures during the semester couple of times since it is a three hour class and as long as you show up to do the labs and definitely do the extra credit because it will help your grade and you will do fine and study.
Amazing teacher and you get to go on exciting field trips to the beach. Study hard for her tests and for sure you can get a fantastic grade. There will be lab activities and a presentation but make sure you show up every day to attempt to do the labs in order to study it for the tests and show up to get points as well and there are online quizzes.
You may not like having class with her due to her not lecturing as much during the semester but it is understandable since it is a long class but by the end of the semester you will see why it is the best choice to take her science classes. She does not lecture much but you can still pass and do every assignment and the presentation and study.
She wants every student to have a great time in her class and it is not hard to pass her class. Show up every day and do the presentation and you will pass her class and do the online quizzes. Doing the labs will help you prepare for her exams and study the online quizzes for the final exam because most of the online quiz questions are on it.
Her class was awesome and the field trips were fun. You get to go on field trips in her class and to get the grade that you want all you need to do is lab work, online quizzes, presentation, and a final exam which is online. If you do all of them with a nice score then you will pass her class. Show up every week to her class and you will be fine.
Professor DiFiori is a great teacher. She doesn't overwhelm you with info or assignments and her study guides pretty much cover what'll be on the exams. The final did throw me off a bit but she gives enough extra credit if you want to get a definite A. I'd take her again for any science class.
took her in the spring of 2015 and she is the most sweetest prof that you'll ever meet for a science class her class was pretty cool bc if you get the labs done early you get to go home early. Honestly I thought that I was gonna fail this class but It turned out that her grade scale was lenient take her!
Professor Di Fiori is a great person. She is so nice, and really funny. She always makes class enjoyable. Every class assignment and test is taken online. She is a decent teacher. A lot of homework, which means you can do well in the class even if you don't do well on exams.
Sara was such a sweet and caring professor. You must come to class prepare to learn. Most of the time you are on your own when doing the learning and reading but you will get the hang of how and why she teaches the way she does. She is very helpful and understanding. I would definitely recommend her class. You will learn a lot in her class.
Professor Di Fiori is really a sweet lady! She is very caring. She did not lecture much but we had labs everyday in her class. At first its hard, but throughout the semester it gets easier. I really enjoyed the ASA's it was really cool. She is very helpful. At first i thought i was failing turns out if you talk to her shell have an updated grade :)
Really cool lady. However, she doesn't teach. She answers questions if you have them, but we have lab everyday so she doesn't lecture at all. You basically have to teach yourself. The study guides are super broad and not very helpful. You only get credit for the labs if you showed up to class that day. There was 4 tests and one group presentation.
Mrs. Di Fiori online class was very well structured; easy to follow. She gives you all of the tools you need to complete the weekly homework, quizzes and discussions; just keep up with that and you're sure to pass.
She has really really shallow knowledge about oceanography. This professor teaches you NOTHING, and let you do lab works by yourself. I felt like I waste money to useless class and unprofessional instructor. El Camino should hire a better knowledgeable oceanography professor not a little girl who doesn't know about anything about the subject.
probably the most difficult online course I have ever taken. Her exam was unreasonably hard, with very little time. I worked very quickly, and missed many questions. I was very upset, and thought that her course was poorly structured. She should open all assignments, rather than locking them and allowing us to do it when SHE wants us to do it. F-
I can add this teacher to the list of other teachers who I regret taking their courses, which makes me regret ever taking a course at El Camino College.
Nice lady, but she honestly has no idea what she's doing. She doesn't teach, so if you're looking to actually learn about oceanography look somewhere else. However, if you show up and complete her labs, you're sure to pass. She curves her tests and gives you study guides. Great class if you need that GE science credit.
Her online course was doable. She gave us a fair amount of work of modules with about 20 questions to answer, quiz, discussions, 4 exams. As long as you do all assignments, which are doable, and get a C or B in tests you are guaranteed to receive an A or B in the class. 1st two exams were hard but seen students struggling and made last 2 doable.
Took this class over the winter session and it surprisingly kept me on my toes. The worst part was having assignments due every 2 days (more of my fault for choosing winter). Can easily lose points so make sure you're confident when turning in assignments. Exams are based exactly off of assignments so make sure to spend time doing them. Overall OK.
This professor understands what it takes to get across to their students. The words caring and intelligent does not suffice when describing the character and output of this professor I highly recommend anyone to take this class.
She doesn't try to act all sophisticated and she's super chill. She's a sweet lady. She kinda reminds me of a bubbly Oprah Winfrey. I fell asleep in 80% of her lectures but that wasn't her fault. I just tend to lose focus and I like taking naps. If you're like me, I suggest sitting in the back of class so it's not disrespectful.
She is very patient, caring and attentive. If you don't understand something she will do help you learn. She has so many layers and it is just so refreshing to see a young vibrant woman in the science field. She is a great teacher and gives all sides to different lessons. She has so much knowledge about geology you just have to engage w/her!
One little slip up and it's all down hill from there for your grade. She lacks empathy and is not willing to work with her students. Was sitting on a B the entire semester and scored low on ONE test which dropped me down to a D and she said there was nothing I could do about it. She is horrible at getting back to your emails. Snarky isn't friendly
She nice professor and you learn a lot of natural disasters. Very helpful when you e-mail her. She gives good feedback about the homework that you finish. The class is hard. She tough grader in some homework and discussion questions. It great class and she professor. I recommend her.
Easy class but if you get on her bad side, she wont do anything for you, attendance also plays a huge roll in this class
She is an amazing professor!! She cares about her students and wants everyone to pass. Her tests are hard but she always offer to help. She gives extra credit. You cant fail her class as long as you show up, do the labs, and online quizzes. The tests are hard but if you do well on everything else you will be fine.
This teacher does not have a textbook and makes you google search all your work. She sends you to wikipedia to look for answers and makes you research everything on your own. She is not a teacher, she is a grader. If you care about your grade, no not take her class. She makes the class Impossible to get a good grade because nothing is clear.
The first 2 weeks of class, I didn't think I'd survive. I'm like I don't get this, there's no way I will pass lol Professor gives you several opportunities to get credit whether its thru online quizzes or Extra credit. The exams were difficult, but there are other assignments that can help with the grade. SHOW Up and you'll pass! Recommended!
She was really great! I loved her class. The class was definitely hard, but nothing a little studying can't get you through. Her lectures were always clear and precise. The beginning of the class will seem difficult, but it will all makes sense when you talk about tsunamis etc,. Highly recommend !! Reading the textbook will really help!
Great professor. She wants her students to get good grades in the class. Since it was a lab class it was a large amount of work. took this class during the COVID fiasco, had a great time keep up with the assignments and test are easy!!!!
This geology class was the easiest class I have taken. There is no textbook used and she gives feedback almost automatically.
She's very quick to respond with questions! There's also no textbook which is nice. Unfortunately you will have a lot of questions tho cause you're teaching the course to yourself. There's no lecture vids so you spend hours on google trying to understand the labs. It's not all her fault I just don't think this Lab was meant to be an online class.
Such a nice professor, she cares about her students and is there to answer questions! She is a wonderful choice and doesn't make the class too hard to get an A if you do the work and have an understanding for the material. I had little-to-no experience with geology & I got an A! Prof. Di Fiori is a solid choice for anyone who is taking Geol1! (:
If you need to take oceanography DONT take this professor! She doesn't teach at all and her course content is so unhelpful. She claims the textbook is optional but since she literally doesn't explain any of the material I had to purchase it. I literally googled my way through this class & the textbook was a big help. Having lab partners was helpful
I took her geology class for Fall 2021. The class was very hard for me. To top it off, her feedback for one of my quizzes was and I quote: "if you don't know the answer, next time don't answer it." She makes it hard for you to approach her. If you want a difficult teacher that offers little help & discourages you to do better, then take her.
Not sure if she does this for all of her classes, but she will give you no credit for assignments if you include the questions with the answers or if you don't number them. She seems nice, but weirdly strict grading policy.
She is very VERY didsy, very bubbly and slightly scatter brained. Have to stay for lab and makes you do group work ; you dont learn anything during the labs you are really figuring it out to comlpete it rather than understand.
Pretty nice professor. She is always there to answer questions. Overall, I di
Her geology labs are pretty easy, although the exams can be difficult if you don't know the material. She explains things really well if you ask her questions in class, and has a lot of time during office hours. She is kind and supportive to students who put in any effort at all, and she's super conversational and fun.
Sarah is great! She lets you work on the labs on your own/with peers, but always feel free to ask her questions. There is no HW, but you get graded for going to class. There is extra credit. There are 3 exams, but the final is only 35 points. It's not a high stress class and you get to learn cool stuff like rocks/minerals and fossils.
Not an easy class. Must be present for every class because of labs but they don't even really get checked. She doesn't go over anything besides the initial lecture. Tests are hard. She gives no study guide and gives vague info on what will be tested. Be at every class bc labs are important. They're the only thing that saved my grade.
