The prerequisite for this class is Chinese 101. Lectures are dull and i doubt if in English. Tests are a lil hard, its possible to get an A with some work. Posts and renews your grade daily. Good with extra credit, nice person, punctual on assignments.
Chinese 101 is a prerequisite. It's true. Even though I got an A, the experience was horrible, I did not enjoy the class. I studied countless hours in order to manage. It it you and the book, no other help involved.
She's just a really terrible professor!!! Her extra credit helps a little, but you have to learn most materials by YOURSELF. She can't teach!
could NOT figure out how anyone got an A in this class. you are ON YOUR OWN with the material; and you better not have a job or you won't have time to read 7-8 chapters needed to be ready for each test. worthless e.c., impossible tests.
Very difficult. Likes to play games with your head. Doen,t want to help you understand the material.
I don't know what all you guys are talking about... I think she is a wonderful teacher. Part of being in college is realising that you are an adult and have to do work on your own. This isn't high school... though some of you are whining like it is. I
Her calss is a true college level class. If you do not understand the materials, you will not do well. I got a C in her class because I did not pay much attention to it. Now I am suffering at UCLA. Save her notes if you are transferring!
The best professor I had at LAVC. She provides notes, study guide, fillin exs. She takes time to check your lab. She is very straightforward and funny. She treats you like a human. Not recommend for people who do not have time to study.
This awesome professor has high expectation of her students. I must admit that this course is difficult, but with her lecure notes and other in-class assignments you can pass the course successfully. I strongly recommend her.
Can't understand a word she says. I had to drop her class halfway through the semester. She went over too much stuff that wasnt required for bio 3.DON'T TAKE HER.
excellent teacher, great charisma, when im in her class she makes me want to learn.she maybe hard but she prepares. she made me love biology again.
Ms. huang is a very good teacher, she is always willing to help. However, she is difficult and this class is like a university type of class, very much on your own which is good practice for future. Take her if bio(science related) is your major.
This teacher give you every opportunity to learn. She even gives you extra credit work to bring your grade up. She is not really easy but wants you to learn. I would take another class from her.
This is one of the worst teachers at Valley College. She expects you to know everything before even taking the course. She thinks all questions are "obvious," and makes you feel like an idiot for trying to learn. Take Dr. Green, shes the best
This instructor is straighforward in her expectations of her students. She is both witty and knowledgeable of her field of study. I strongly encourage students to take the time to challenge themselves in a cc to prepare for university coursework.
Sara had a hard time communicating to the class. Her tests were the worst...I could not determine what she was asking for when she asked a question or posed a multiple choice question. Her labs never ended. Stick with Green-Marroquin.
very difficult to understand. the "obivious" answers to her questions are only obvious to her. therefore, you must think "like" her. GOOD LUCK! tests are long. it takes a whole paragraph to ask a question and your choices for answers a
She is very hard to understand and thinks that all sibjects being taught are "obvious," and there is no need to ask questions. Her quizzes are very difficult, and it is almost impossible to know what is on them to study for them. Not recommend
Sara is hard but fun. She'll be a big challenge for all you bio majors out there... if you survive, you'll be ok in a UC. Dr Green is also THE BEST!!!
I agree with a lot of you that you can barely tell what the heck she is talking about. She does not like (or maybe does not know?) going into depth of the questions asked. She is a poor lecturer, prefers to put on a video and leave. Not a very good
her accent is killing me!!!can understand wat shes saying...dont take her youll regret it...
Misspronounces every other word. The lecture is a complete waste of time and the lab is mostly looking at slides. The quiz and most exam questions come right out of the book's self test.
She is not a good teacher. Actually she is one of the worst that I have ever had! Her accent kills me because it is not understandable. Her powerpoint lectures are just flicked through, so it's impossible to take notes. If you want a REAL teacher, take Dr Green Marroquin. She is wonderful!!!
Take someone else if u can. Her class is doable, but you must have some backround in bio. Also u have to go to every class because every class has a quiz. Which are easy, but still the fact is you cant miss a class. Also she hates helping you or explaining this in depth.
If you're interested in Bio, she's such an easy teacher. If you show up every day and do OK on the tests, you're guaranteed a B or higher. She's one of the better Bio teachers I've ever had.
its true her accent kills you! you can't understand s*** thats coming out of her mouth! I think she should really consider taking english courses because she does understand Bio she just can't explain or pronounce it.
good teacher
I only recommend this class if you are very strong in English. She has a very strong accent, and is many times hard to understand. She is a nice person. The class is not that hard, but you might get frustrated by her accent.
she is a good teacher.
She's the worst.
Seems like a nice person, could not understand what she was talking about, her accent is very strong, I stayed 3 days, could not take it, had to go.
Take her class.
She has an accent so at times it's not clear what's she saying but she's extremely helpful and if you don't understand something just ask. She takes time with her students. Bio experience is helpful when taking her classes.
Ok ladies and Gents here is the scoop on prof Huang. She is a very nice and approachable person, but the drawback is that her exams are quite difficult, and DO NOT go into her class expecting an A unless you are a bio fanatic or you intend on putting in effort. Just to inform you I studied a lot for my A :)
hi prof huang...this is the "anti-social" person speaking ;) For all the negative critics out there, especially nursing students AND bio majors, BIOLOGY is for listening to the material and NOT the professor entirely--if you don't understand that, then take another bio class with an "EASY" instructor. You think she's hard? Then take a hike.
She is very difficult but does give extra credit to those willing to take advantage of it. A's are rare in her class. Her clarity could be better, so make sure you attend the SI sessions (it is a saving grace for most students). She is difficult to understand at times and not the most approachable person, but you will learn a lot.
Very hard to understand, does't explain lab's. Don't take her if you don't have to.
If you can read and teach YOURSELF WITHOUT ANY help from an instructor THIS class is for YOU!!!
Don't listen to the positive feedback! She is not approachable even for the students getting an A and 50%+ drop. You can hardly understand what she is saying and expects you to be a bio major and bio fanatic. She doesn't explain the labs, the study guides have wrong answers, and the test questions don't match style or wording from the text book!
She gives quezes on the new material and collects homeworks at the first minute of the class so if you are late for 5 seconds you loose your points. Her tests contain about 100 questions and you are given not more then 90 min. for that. Even though she always explains the new material very well, I wouldn't recommend You to take the class with her.
Unclear teaching, must read the book yourself. Also grading system is dispproportionate.
great professor
Cannot read the word, let alone teach you. No extra credit, not one quiz dropped, 50% of students drop. Terrible Chinese accent. Not flexible one bit. Can't explain, cause she doesn't know. Makes mistakes, students make corrections. Labs are a big nonsense. Many times half way thru a whole class has to start it over, as she gives wrong substances.
This is foundational, & not an easy A class. Come prepared so you don't blame teachers if you don't do well. Everyone gets a chance to ask questions, you snooze you lose. Extra credits aren't handed on platers, must be earned as well. Lab tests are a give-away; slackers lose. This is college, be creative. Don't ostracize teachers. Give them respect
Avoid at all costs. Professor Huang does a disservice to the art of teaching- and almost ruined the intellectual interest of biology as a subject to me. And I got the only A in her class. She lacks the ability to elucidate clearly, discourages questions, does not allow enough time for activities, and grades unfairly.
Pure and simple. Prof. Huang is the worst teacher I had ever taken class with. I wouldn't recommend anybody to be in her class.
Well I have to say I took this class for some easy Bio summer credit. I am a UCLA student so this was a total breeze for me. If you community college students are complaining, don't even bother to transfer to a good university because this class was 10000 levels down from the difficulty of the classes I take at a real college..Good luck.
Horrible experience. I was warned not to take the class, but it fit my schedule. I worked hard in this class. I should have dropped with the others but held out. The last final killed everyone, the highest grade being a C. Thanks to failing bio, UCLA withdrew my admittance. Now I am a bitter honors (TAP) student stuck without a UC. Heed my warning!
This teacher is not too bad. I was dedicated to the class 100% and studied from day 1 and was able to maintain an A, so its doable. I understood that you needed to study the notes to yourself and the book as a backup so your time in class was mandatory but all the understanding was done on your own time.
lectures are not worth listening to, not too clear on class sylabus, has surprised us w/an open-book quiz. to do well in class work on labs before class to assure full credit. for exams go over all multiple choice questions that are provided with the new bio text books(she takes many questions from here). the site is:masteringbio.com, and also...
Hard, yes, incomprehensible, sort of..But her class is what college work is all about - SELF-STUDY!!! Got an A in her class because I worked very hard. Prof Huang and others like her should serve as a challenge, and if YOU meet up to that, getting where you want wouldn't be that hard. Hello, nursing program! :)
Great teacher. Doesn't let students slack off, and makes them earn their grades. I learned a lot from this class. Just study the notes. And she offers extra credit, which is really helpful.
For all the students that have given this professor a bad rating, in all honesty, you either didn't study effeciently, or this isn't your strong subject. If you want a A do this: 1) study the textbook 2) study it again a chapter a day , a few days before the exam, and then the day before read her lecture notes. RELEARNING is the key.
What are you talking about???? She is a teacher with great knowledge. Yes, her class is not easy but you are not in kindergarden. You have to study!!! She is not a lovey-dovey teacher and will not babysitt you. I found her great and she expects to work with matured students not babies who's ego is bruised after she let them know they suck.
nice, but unreazonably hard!
Blahhh!!! she was the worst teacher I had.
tried so hard my butt of but didn't even get a C. so sad. it's really not a pleasant class at all.
I'm a B student and I hate her to the end because I know how I study but it was impossible to pas the class. she's really really the worst teacher I've ever had.
unbelievably hard. she's not helpful at all.
worst bio teacher out there. the work load was UNBELIVABLE!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
Don' take her believe all these comments below me, everything is true. She will destroy your GPA. I took her because it fit my schedule, now I'm regretting it should have taken someone else or dropped the class.
She makes the subject a lot harder than it should be. she really is so bad that you should not even consider her. taking her was the biggest regret in my academic life. trust me, dont take her.
so i never use this site yet alone leave comments, but she is soooo bad that i had to make an exception. she is one of the worst teachers on this campus. i mean you will seriously regret being in her class. just dont take her.
she's one of those THINGS... c'mon people face it she's HORRIBLE
I knew taking her was a mistake to bad the other physio classes where so full. If u have no choice than to take her BUY the BOOK you will need it. Notes are not very clear.
If u want an A or a B on this class, study HARD and u must attend class everyday. Labs r EXREMELY helpful 4 u to get an A on this class. Exams r very difficult so dont rely on her notes. This is basically a self study class so do chapter reading everyday.
She does tell u on whats gonna be the short essay part and Study guides are worth 10pts n included on the 120 pt exams. I will say Labs are easy but kinda long. Overall a nice n funny teacher but if you want to pass this class, study and read the book everyday.
Horrible teacher, I managed to somehow get a C in the class but I worked my but off for that measly grade and barely had time to focus on my other 2 classes. She's unreasonably hard, exams are very difficult, hard to understand through her accent, please avoid, she should have chosen a different profession
Not helpful at all, pretty hard, won't explain, accent, 5 exams, each one =120 points. Tells you what essay questions will be on exam with answers. Gives you 10 free points by doing the study guide, 10/120 points, but a lot of work. The labs are quick, the lecture quizzes are open notes, so that helps. You'll have a quiz almost every class meeting.
she was the biggest academic mistake i have ever made. period
I can't believe she is a teacher! I've never studied SO hard, but I got a C. And I was 5th in class. Half of the class dropped her after the first two tests. A lot of people failed. If you are going to the nursing program, do not take her! SHe will crash your GPA and if you take this class again, it becomes harder to get into the program.AVOID HER
I disagree! A tough class- but I'm a much better student than I was before taking her class. She starts the class with important basics, expects students to know the prerequisites, and made her own labs. It was tough, but good to be treated as adults.
she is more though than she needs to be and that makes so that it's not worth taking her. if she is your last choice, then put the class off for another semester because, trust me, its worth it
Too tough, too nit-picky, and overall not worth it. Try any other professor other than her
Do NOT take her class if you have over 12 units. Unless you are a biology nerd, you will have trouble keeping up with all her tests and quizzes. 5 tests in all 120 points each, about 10 quizzes and 2 midterms worth 200 points. 1060 points total for class. Only "easy" points come from lab which she is VERY picky about. Do the math..
shes a very hard teacher, she doesn't give extra credit but if your willing to work hard her classes are enjoyable, she has quite a sense of humor..
Please do no take her if you are not a bio major or pre-med, it is not an easy class and it is not worth wasting so much time on a class if you are not interested or taking this class just for the units/lab.
If nursing is your major, Physiology is a necessity and ANY class will be hard.....the human body is complicated. Huang is someone who will definitely be there to answer your questions if she sees you putting the time in. Many quizzes and tests. If you aren't a dedicated student then don't bother with this teacher. Other than that, I recommend her.
She is a very nice lady. has a lot of tests and quizzes, but ver all very good teacher. i would recommend to take her class.
"+": gives extra credit work at the end of the semester but does not help much for your grade. only if you have...9% in the border line between grades. Sometimes lets finish selfstudying lecture at home. Study guides are helpfull. Quizzes help to prepare for tests. overall, if I had another choice - I would take another teacher.
Half of the class dropped, only those who really work hard stayed, may be those who worried for their GPA dropped too. If you want A study daily and nightly - physio itself is very complicated subject. be prepared for the class in advance and do not take another science class at the same time with Physio if you want to succeed.
Nice prof, lectures are interesting. Other than that I DO NOT recommend. Tests are extremely hard (understand physio is a hard subject). I usually gets A's in courses (didn't on this one),I am good student and I have never studied so HARD in my life. Academic mistake. MUST READ every CH and FULLY understand the concepts in each chapter.
This professor is very strict when it comes to grading.NO extra credit & she doesn't drop any low test or curves any grades. She doesn't like answering questions & no matter how much you study it is almost impossible for an A grade.
STAY AWAY. She's tough, unhelpful and a harsh grader. If you try to clarify why you got points off for a lab she laughs and tells you not to worry about a couple of points. When you explain that you're trying to understand what you got wrong for the future she looks at you like you're an idiot. I got more out of the Mastering Phys program than her.
Physiology is not a easy course, but She helps you successful in this class. She gives you chances to pump up your grade more than once. Her tests are very straight if you follow her instructions and use her study questions. Furthermore, she is a hard worker. You will get your test score promptly. She is a wonderful teacher!!!
Dont take this class,!!!!!!!!!! It is very hard. She is very bad at teaching and is not helpful at all. She doesn't help when you ask her a question. Her study guides are not helpful. Her english is not good at all and she trying to be funny but she is not!! I would recommend taking another professor.
Stay away from this professor. She won't answer questions and her exams are very hard, physiology it's hard enough already and she make it even more difficult.
Physiology is super-tough. Tons of graphs, flow charts. Made my head spin. She went over chapter slides in class, but I had to do a lot of self-study. Her exams are fair, but not easy. Must put in the work. She releases 24pt question set before exams. Answers have to be looked up in textbook-good opportunity to bump up grade. Got an A, wasn't easy.
Don't take this professor. She is really bad at explaining and you end up confused. Her study guides don't help. Her tests are super hard and confusing.
By far, she was the worst professor I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and don't take her
Expect to learn on your own. I have no idea why she teaches, very sad for LAVC students who need this class. The funny thing is, she doesn't care if the whole class is doing terrible. Terrible instructor. Shame on LAVC!
I was a straight A student before her. Even though i studied and read it was impossible to get an A. She basically reads of slides in really bad english, does not help you comprehend or retain material at all . Looks at you like you are stupid if you ask questions and shruggs you off. Her test are confusing. No care for her students, do not take!!!
She's good. You have to work for the grade that you want Study study I was pleased with the grade I received I worked for it if you take her you should too
You earn the grade you get. Be sure you complete study guides, watch the videos she posts, ask questions and really understand the concepts. Give simple straight to the point answers-do not add outside research! Once she emails you with the syllabus, I suggest you start reading so you are ahead before class even begins. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!
Physio is hard regardless who you take it with. Prof Huang gets a bad rep because people do not study and expect the answers to be given to them when you ask her. A&P are classes to filter the capable and those that are not.
Professor Huang was definitely not a professor I would take again. She's a nice person and is absolutely hilarious, but she just doesn't know how to thoroughly explain material well enough. The subject is hard as is and she doesn't help much when you ask her questions. Exams are tough and definitely do not reflect what is on the study guide.
Do not be deceived by her kindness and jokes. There is no learning experience unless you teach yourself. It is very difficult to understand her especially when she just quickly goes over her powerpoint. Print out your lecture notes ahead of time. Study the guides she posts!! Don't be late or you'll miss the quizzes. Tests are hard. Limited makeups.
This professor needs to learn how to teach. Has archaic teaching methodologies and at times cant answer students questions. Rushes through the lectures without asking students questions. If she doesn't finish the material, you simply have to learn it "at home" It's terrible how this school allows such a terrible instructor to keep teaching.
Professor Huang is the toughest professor I've had in college ever. EVERYTHING is graded without any dropped quizzes or assignments. I read EVERY SINGLE PAGE of the textbook because you have to teach yourself the material. She does not have any sympathy if you are unable to attend class. Be prepared to work if you even want to think about passing.
Guess what guys? Physiology IS hard. Prof Huang is not going to baby and caudal you and spoil you with extra credit. She is going to make you work harder than you ever have for that A and that is the best gift of all. For those going in to medicine or nursing her class is the best prep you can ask for. You can take one semester of pain, right?
A tough class for sure! No matter who you take it with, there's going to be a considerable amount of reading/self teaching because theres just not enough class time to get through it all. That being said, her accent is understandable, she's witty/funny & I enjoyed her class even if it did take over my life for a semester. Every point counts!
Knows a lot about the subject, understandable accent, tells a lot of funny and interesting stories, gives some extra credit. Attendance is pretty much mandatory, as is textbook reading and grading can be tough. Prof. also lets you know all possible questions that will be on the written portion of exam. I studied a 1-2 hours a day and got an A.
All I can say is YIKES. Loves to take off points on labs. lab and lecture quizzes are pretty easy but the exams are rough. Make sure you memorize fill ins, charts, and clinical questions to get perfect scores on written part of exam. Hardest multiple choice exams Ive ever taken, questions are so in depth. Dont miss class will miss out on points
Yes the material is challenging, but she is a terrible instructor. She reads the slides and does not allow students to absorb the material. Some instructors allow student discussions and opportunities to discuss the material. Her archaic teaching is mediocre and should take lessons from younger prof who utilize pedagogy in their teaching.
She does not know how to teach whatsoever. Her notes are fill in the blank, takes time, doesn't let you absorb material. No lab is a perfect grade for her. Study guides aren't close to the exams, material she teaches either. I read the book to teach myself. No clear grading rubric. Accent is hard to understand, do not take her! I regret it.
Bad reviews scared me at first. But honestly not bad at all. Her study guides were very helpful. The written portion of the exam is straight out of the study guide, so that's free 20 points if you invest time memorizing them. And study the A&P questions too. Many of them will actually be on the test. It's not an easy A, but definitely doable.
I would never take her class again, you have to teach yourself! Her tests are so in-depth, lectures are barely on the surface, she doesnt know how to teach, her study guides are a total waste of time. No compassion, she hardly replies emails. She skips important things in the lecture and I bet you theyll all be in the test
WARNING: If you want to learn and grasp the subject of Physiology, take someone else. She has a sense of humor but when it comes to asking questions about concepts, she will make you feel dumb for not knowing it. She refers to her slides and lectures A LOT when it comes to answering questions. She would harshly grade lab reports unreasonably.
The entire class is based on exams. I had a 93% in the class, as I was doing extremely well on labs and homework. I took the exam and my grade went down to a 71% IT WENT DOWN 22 PERCENT. The exam was extremely hard and the questions given were so different and abstract from the actual study guide or what we learned. save yourself the trouble.
Wish I could write more than 1 BAD review. FYI: I'm hard working - 3.8 GPA. Shes not creative/engaging; reads PPs; skims sections; confuses u when she TRIES to teach; DOESNT care how/why students do badly (literally, class avg is D - she wont care to ask why/how); just keeps the same. Tests: LONG & LOTS of material. 0 xtracredit/dropped assignments
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!! Her exams are 78 questions in 85 mins, which doesn't give you enough time to go back to the questions you had trouble with. She reads her PowerPoints verbatim and will not post them on canvas. Doesn't drop any tests, doesn't allow for makeups, and isn't interactive with students. Save yourself the W.
Wonderful professor who allows you to postpone your exams without having to provide proof or documentation. She cares about her students a lot & wants you to succeed. Five exams, quite difficult, however just read the book & study the PowerPoints and you will be good. Makes you work for your grade, but gives extra credit. Be prepared to work hard.
There are some prof. who should not teach. Sara is one of them. To call her teaching methods awful and archaic would be an understatement. Just reads the slides in lazy high-speed fashion. Why not link the material to real-world examples? Nope. A prof. who needs to go back to school and learn how to effectively teach and engage CC students.
WORST teacher ever! Unintentionally rude, not caring, very harsh, not helpful. When asked for help during lab, was told to refer back to the lab manual. Look for another professor. Worst class ever.
I rather drink lava than take this professor again. I AM WATCHING OUT FOR Y'ALL. I had an A in the class, I got a C on one assignment and dropped two letter grades bruh. She posts study guides for the test to help but NOTHING OF IT IS EVEN ON THE EXAM the exams are very hard. Moral of the story save yourself. Also, she's mad sassy for no reason.
Probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Trust me and save yourself some time and don't take her. She absolutely doesn't know how to teach, she just gives you a video to watch her read what's on the slides and you fill in the blanks. She hasn't taught a single thing at all I've never dropped a class so fast.
Sum up her class in one word: geez. No lab is EVER full credit? But they only 30% of grade so your grade basically stays the same if you do well. Exams are (extremely in depth). You're on your own for lab assignments, doesn't give any context or explanation. Counts up tardies as absences? Her lecture videos are so slow need to need to speed up to3x
Professor Huang is not a bad prof as the reviews say. Her exams are straightforward/based on lecture and as long as you complete the study guides you WILL BE PREPARED. She gives extra credit questions ahead of time so memorize your answers and you'll be fine. Study the guides and take the time to learn and you'll get an A. Quizlet will be your bff.
Sara's class is a real challenge, but unstuck study helped me ace the tough exams. Attendance is a must, but the lectures can feel disengaged. Definitely do the practice problems and utilize any study guides - they're not fully representative, but still useful.
I am basically teaching myself because the lectures are long and boring and if you don't understand and ask for help, she belittles you or suggests you don't belong there. I know physiology is hard and complicated, but there are many YouTube lecturers that do this much better. I use those when I need help. I won't ask her for help anymore.
