Gives a lot of busy work for the textbook and very few actual art pieces. Only uses wood and cardboard, but you get a lot of time to work in class. Also focuses mainly on geometric patterns and shapes, so if that doesn't jive with you, don't take this professor.
Nice person, but mediocre professor. 1st year at SCAD and you can tell. Lots of busy work, ridiculous amount of 1 page 2 paragraph papers which is better than whole essays but overall a waste of time. Class time to do assignments, but they are basic and impossible to modify for your major if you're at that point. Doubt it will change for winter.
Projects are fairly basic and by the book, but easy to do. Lot of extra busy work outside of class for the text book. Generally a fine teacher if you just need the credit.
Lots of reading/writing assignments that just felt like busy work and weren't useful. Be prepared to spend a ton of money on materials you'll never use again. Waits until the last minute to provide info regarding homework and materials needed. Not much room for creativity in projects - you're more so making what she wants to see.
Easily one of the worst professors I have had at this school. Overabundance of reading/ writing assignments. She grades on personal taste, so if she personally likes your work or not. Huge lack of communication on assignments. EXPENSIVE! I told her I couldn't afford some of the materials and instead of helping me she said "well it's SCAD."
Get ready to spend a lot of money on silly supplies. Homework is textbook work that is mostly useless. Class is similar to a high school course, lots of work and minimal benefit from it. Makes sure your work is the way she wants, so you have no creativity unless you can fully support your design with actual art terms. Class was not worth taking.
I did more reading in this class than in my English classes. Sara has no regard for students' financial situations or transportation limitations when insisting that we travel miles to a specific hardware store to pick up expensive materials that could easily be subbed for other options. I argued with her often. My class universally disliked her.
I could not stand her teaching style. The readings from the textbook were useless (I've forgotten it all), as was the typed summaries per each chapter. She'll suggest changes to your projects based on her personal wants, and she often makes a point to call out what she doesn't like in a sort of derogatory way. Take advantage of her extra credit!!!
After having Krista here's what I have to say. TB is 20 pages of reading writing 4-8 sentences EASY A every week. She does the research of where to buy the cheapest things. She cares. She sticks to the book, so it can be boring. Projects are relatively simple but she focuses on technique over creativity. Never overwhelmed with projects/work!!
After having Professor Rastegarpouyani for this winter quarter of 2021 she was an amazing listener and her feedback was very helpful for each project. The workload was not much and each project is split into 2 parts giving you time to complete your work. There are quizzes but they are fairly small and very simple to pass if you study enough.
I'm currently taking this course during Fall 2021, and Professor Rastegar is a very kind and caring person! She makes it a point to make connections with her students. In terms of projects, there is not much opportunity for portfolio submissions as the criteria is very specific to the course. Overall though, it's going great so far!
She was amazing to my class and me (Fall 2021). She is extremely kind and understanding, as well as super helpful when it comes to where you can get materials. She's super understanding and her project instructions are easy to understand and get a good grade on.
Prof. Rastegar is very caring and does not make students present in front of the class. The workload can be tough building each project, although there are few of them, so expect to spend many hours working outside of class. Thankfully, there was hardly any reading and only a few quizzes. Shes not a hard grader so do the work and youll be fine.
A lot of long lectures, she seems to really like long presentations. She grades fairly, and offers extra credit, but be prepared to stay on top of work. If you lag behind a little, you have to crunch. Remember to take the quiz’s!
This class was my first experience, so I didn't have experience with it. Professor Rastegar was really encouraging and accessible to help and introduce 3D design in the best way. Very structured professor, so go to class prepared.
She encourages all students to create their best work and offers solutions to questions or problems throughout the design process. She is not only a good professor, but also very kind and a good person. She cares about her students and is flexible if problems occur around deadlines. Her work is not the easiest, but she will help you succeed!
i struggled so much in Rasterga's class that i withdrew. while i can tell she cares about her students, her lectures are so reliant on dry, noninteractive powerpoints they mas well not be live. she also focuses a lot on the requirements of her assignments without sufficient explanation of what she's taught, while still omitting vital information.
don't take
She was accommodating, understood and respected learning disabilities, was super communicative, and took the time to help you find a step-by-step process to finish the project or catch up with it. Best to attend the classes so you don't get absences getting attendance through blackboard participation was difficult for me.
This class was very straightforward and easy to complete. Professor gives very helpful and clear feedback on how to improve my work.
Prof. Rastegar really cares about her students, she gives great feedback and encourages her students to ask questions for feedback. The lectures do get a little boring, you could definitely just read the PowerPoint after class but the in-session help is wonderful.
Professor Rastegar has extremely clear expectations. The projects are interesting and the professor is really accessible outside class so there is no way you can fail the class if you are in touch with her:)
DSGN100 was by far my favorite class this quarter and Prof Rastegar was so caring! I received thoughtful feedback at every stage of my project development and Prof helped me come up with creative design solutions whenever I felt like I had hit a dead end with a project. Lectures were informative and looking at artist examples was incredibly useful.
Prof. Rastegar is very helpful! She has very clear grading criteria, is accesible out of class, and she will put effort into helping you if you don't have some of the necessary materials or don't have access to them. She gives really good feedback and she'll individually help you as you work on your project. Overall she's awesome!
Professor Rastegarpouyani is very organized and professional. She really understands how to maximize the use of technology for remote learning. She communicated the expectations, directions, and grading criteria clearly and well in advance. She provided timely feedback was easy to approach if I had questions. She truly cared about my learning.
Professor Rastegarpouyani was an amazing teacher who really cared and was honest in how she graded.
I took the online course, and Professor Rastegar was absolutely amazing. Everything is clearly outlined in the syllabus, and she makes sure all due dates, grading criteria, and instructions are clear. She even provides examples. She offers feedback on submitted material, and she's always willing to assist in any method of communication/meeting.
The professor puts in a lot of effort which shows through her presentation slides. She explains very well the projects my class and I received and gives very good feedback. My professor also had my class and I post our work in progress and final work to have everyone comment each other on improvements and successes.
Really helpful inside and outside of class. Regular consultations about our individual projects that gave me greater confidence in completing them. Understood we we were beginners, and cared more about us learning new things than doing them perfectly. Helped teach how to fix things if mistakes were made. Genuinely cared about students.
Professor Rastegar is fantastic! I went into DSGN 102 anxious about working in 3D but useful demos, feedback and examples were always provided for support. Professor Rastegar clearly communicates requirements and criteria and really motivates you to take your designs and ideas to the next level with her feedback.
Professor is very knowledgeable about 3D design. She explains lectures well. Assignments are explained in oral and written form. She is available outside of class. I would highly recommend her. I would take the class again. Fun and exciting. She cares about you learning the principles and wants to help you in any way that she can.
You can tell she really cares about how well each student is doing. If you join the live classes, expect to be put into breakout rooms with your peers and be pulled into a separate break out room for one on one with the professor. She pauses the recordings during these times, and it's nice to not be called out in front of the other students.
Watch lectures if you can't make live sessions- this is vital for quizes & homework deadlines. Remember: professors aren't here to make things easy. 3D Design is time consuming. You WILL learn a lot &you get to build a maquette! Professor Rastegar is helpful, available & wants you to succeed. Great professor & great class for your portfolio!
Great professor, the materials are not very difficult to prepare. I believe everyone has simple materials such as knives and cardboard. Systematic learning, from finding inspiration to investigating to creating thumbnail images of works, and following her footsteps, you can easily obtain an A+
Professor Rastegarpouyani has been one of my favorite Professors so far in my 2.5 year academic journey. Her class really allowed me to push myself beyond where I thought was possible, and that is what I am in school to do. Her grading criteria was always clear and I felt her way of teaching was very well balanced.
I really enjoyed Prof. Rastegar's class! She was very clear on assignment expectations and always laid out each assignment, step-by-step. She went through all projects in detail on how to construct and use the materials. She was very helpful to asynchronous students and encouraged them to reach out anytime outside class for feedback or questions.
The first few classes go over design concepts, then we dive into projects and everyone gets to work. In-class consultations are held almost every class so she can give feedback on projects. I learned a lot about the creative process and how to be professional. Her classes can be hard for a newcomer but listening to her feedback helps tremendously.
Professor Rastegarpouyani is a great professor! At any point in the quarter, I was never confused as to what stage we were in the project. She would always update us, students, on what steps to take next, assignment due dates, etc. Plus she is super caring. She provides one on one time in class to check in on you, and your project. 10/10 professor!
Professor Rastegarpouyani is a great teacher that pushes student's imaginations, her directions for projects is very clear, she is fast with grading and is very easy to gain help from.
I have had the pleasure of taking Prof. Rastegar's DSGN102 class in Fall. She was an amazing professor and very understanding to any circumstances you may encounter. Her blackboard is very organized and she is always ready to begin class on time with the materials. The projects were tedious, but fun! I wish I could take another class with her! A++
Teaching style was great. Really clear and manageable steps for each and every project. Plenty of helpful critique sessions. You get her in class and one on one. Will reply to you quickly if you're asynchronous as long as you email her during the week. Great professor all around.
Guidelines were clear, feedback provided was helpful, and overall a great course. As long as you check in with the professor on each project and take her suggestions into consideration, there is no reason you shouldn't be successful. I would happily take this professor again!
Professor Rastegarpouyani is a great teacher. My most important takeaway from this course is how vital workflow is when approaching art and how that impacts you both as an artist and a professional. I've learned critical design principles through her projects; doing them was fun. I highly recommend this class :)
Professor Rastegar's class was amazing! All the projects were engaging and gave me new avenues to approach design from. Her class also allowed for giving and using critique effectively. If you are required to get the JG Heck's Pictorial Archive of Nature and Science for this class, ensure that you get it as soon as possible. You will need it.
Prof. Sarah was very sweet and patient with Oliver students and gave step-by-step instructions on how to complete projects she made time in. Giving us extra last time to finish assignments and. Made our classes engaging
I took Design 100 and Design 102 class with Professor Sara Rastegarpouyani. She is very clear with how the projects should be laid out so you know just what to expect. She always gives constructive feedback in a timely manner, and focuses on you learning the content rather than having to do it just to get a grade.
Do not be intimidated, or hesitant when hearing Professor Rastegar's direct tone and requirements. Trust me when I say you need this course and her strict requirements to become successful in any area of design. Prepare yourself for the work load. Yes this class has high expectations. My best advice would be to become sufficient in time management!
Professor Rastegarpoyani has been a favorite professor during my time at SCAD. She's passionate about what she does and it translates over to her teaching methods. Her material is clear and concise and easy to follow. She's also very understanding and reasonable when you may have issues arise. All she really asks is that you give it your all.
I was a bit nervous about taking my first college course in 5 years but Ms. Rastegar gave me an easy experience during the semester. Be prepared to dedicate a lot of your time toward your projects but the more you complete early on, the more free time you will have toward the end of each project.
Outstanding professor. Very thorough, professional, and organized. Truly cares about the success of her students. She sets the example for her students and she consistently maintains that professionalism throughout the entire course. This course is fun, but requires good time management. I totally recommend taking this course with Professor R.
Designing 100 assignments makes the class engaging. The one-on-one discussions provide valuable insights and constructive feedback.
She is amazing! Very smart and knows what she is talking about. Just like any SCAD class, be prepared to WORK. Projects are fun and engaging. Extra feedback will be given if asked. 1 on 1 time if you attend the live classes. Very kind and understanding. Encourages conversation. You will learn so much from this class! I highly recommend.
Prof. Rastegar is great! She provides very clear instructions for each assignment and ensures that no student is left confused. Always pay attention to the lectures as the information is very valuable. This was a really great class that I enjoyed!
Gives good feedback and is very supportive and attentive to students. Lots of helpful group and frequent one-on-one critique sessions. Very boring and unengaging lectures with overwhelming amounts of text on slides. Projects were quite fun and I learnt a lot. She has a very systematic approach which can feel restrictive and manufactured.
This has to be the best Professor that I've had as my time as a SCAD student. She's so easy to contact via email, and genuinely cares about her students and their success in the class. Be prepared to put in work, like any foundations class. She creates a fun online lecture environment, and will check in with students one on one ALL the time.
Truly the most amazing instructor I have ever had! So caring and really inspires each of her students. I learned so much that will stick with me as I grow. The projects are super exciting and we have freedom to be as creative as we like. She checks in with us & it gives a really helpful, personal feel. I would take her class over and over again!
She's very nice, she answered all my questions, she helps me whenever I needed more help, he responds to my emails, she spaces out projects well so I don't get overwhelmed, and she provides examples
She scared me a little bit, but I loved her! She makes everything clear and simple, just be sure to listen to everything she says well. Gives 1-on-1 feedback in breakout rooms during class, so all feedback is private and not on the class recordings which was amazing! Don't email her during the weekend. You need everything on the material list.
Likely the most organized professor at SCAD & makes criteria/expectations VERY clear. Projects are intensive but fun. I've never had a professor that has inspired/encouraged/motivated me the way she has, both with her talent/knowledge & as a person. It was an honor to learn from her, do not take that opportunity for granted if you take this course.
If you like clear expectations & deadlines for work, this is the class 4 u. 3 projects completed over the quarter. Prof. gives feedback one on one during class and then you have studio and can work with other students. Her feedback makes sure you're on track and to get any questions answered. Can b reachd via email out of class. xtra credit given.
Took her twice! Lectures are structured. Great for someone who is a bit unorganized but has big ideas. Both of her classes have 3 heavy projects, but you document every step and choice you make. Extremely caring and supportive of her students. Will always help you! Honest/answers questions. Speak up and be creative. Invaluable life/career lessons.
class was consistently engaging and i looked forward to every lecture!
Took her when it snowed in Savannah and it was also on an MLK weekend, giving us less time to work on the sculpture of the first project bc she released the materials list after the weekend and during the snowfall so there was a delay. Although a majority of us were affected she did not seem to be empathetic. Don't take her in Winter quarter.
This class made me cry, her class sucked. Only 3 projects but had barely any demos, which none I found useful. Would be turning in 3-4 assignments a week for this class alone and told me to prioritize her class work over everything else, despite me having two other classes to work on. Easy grader but is a very stressful class and VERY EXPENSIVE!
what was this class? legitimately cried multiple times during it. became VERY passive aggressive when students didn't understand her. stated lots of times her class should be our top priority and we shouldn't focus on any other class. fluffed up her language a ton and wasn't direct. I am also neurodivergent so I had MAJOR trouble understanding her.
An absurdly overwhelming amount of assignments, deadlines perfect for driving me insane, and even while working on them, I have no idea what I'm doing. RUN
The feedback she gives is fantastic, as a sophomore, so far her feedback has been the best out of all my professors. Not only does she give MULTIPLE tips on how to improve, but she'll list materials, AND their cheaper alternatives. Truly an angel. 11/10 class.
She is very kind and always provide feedback and clear instructions on time. Though the homework is a little tough if you are not good at design or drawing, she still provides good feedback and grades as long as you work hard. Required thoughtful ideas about the constructing process and certain foundation of craftsmanship
Professor Rastegar is such an angel! Even though her projects require a lot of dedication and time, she always offers feedback sessions to help you with any questions you may have during your project. She explains everything in great detail, making her classes easy to understand. You won't regret taking this class with her!
This Professor has been my favorite at Scad! There's a lot of room for individual creativity. Her lectures are set up to be very comprehensive, so nothing is left to be misconstrued. The projects are broken into checkpoints, offering multiple grading opportunities. She gives valuable feedback after each checkpoint, even for asynchronous students!
I feel I was able to achieve what I created in her class because of how encouraging she is, how well she explains everything, and how "user friendly" every aspect of what she teaches is. Because of this class, I realize that I am more than just a written storyteller.
Professor Rastegarpouyani is an amazing instructor. She gives great guidance and always pushes you to do your best work. You can tell she genuinely loves what she teaches, which always makes a course better. I feel that taking this class made me a better artist and allowed me to discover capabilities that I didn't even know I had.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She seems like a nice person, but she should not be teaching entry-level classes. Too much work, unclear instructions, and she's a tough grader. Also, if you have accommodations, avoid her at all costs. Oh, and somehow there are multiple parts for only 3 projects.
This professor has shown to be very respectful along with being very caring and provides good feedback in every project. Stay on top of your work, and she will quickly give you a better understanding of what she expects in every aspect of the projects. Every moment of being present in her classes provided so much opportunity and encouragement!
The prof was great & class was enjoyable. Challenging not overwhelming. Projects are broken down into sections & feedback is given for each. Projects were interesting & the mediums used were different for each. Many materials needed. Accepts accommodations. If you follow the guidelines & listen to the teaching/feedback, it's not a difficult class.
Professor Rastegarpouyani is adamant about giving her students everything that they need to succeed in her class. Given that her course content is something new to most, she exceeds expectations by being available and providing clear instruction and feedback during each assignment phase.
The professor was helpful and gives a many advices to improve and have a better result. She is organized and have clear projects goals step by step. Furthermore, she understands each students struggles. She is always here when needed and always available outside of class, she interact by email efficiently. I would definitely recommend.
She is organized and considerate, helpful when needed. She is always available outside of class and does have an efficiently response by email. The professor gives many extra credit for participating in class feedback. The overall projects was fun, enjoyable and great. I feel proud of what I archive and learn from her. I would highly recommend.
She genuinely cares about your success and gives thoughtful, helpful feedback at each stage. Expectations are crystal clear and she grades fairly. Lectures are efficient and informative. You really do need to watch all of them, but she won't waste your time. It's a really fun class with a great professor!
She's awesome and cares about student success! Just make sure you're holding up your end of the bargain.
Professor Rastegarpouyani class challenges your creativity in the best way, you have a lot of freedom but of course you definitely must meet the requirements. She explains everything so clearly and wants you to succeed. Her positivity and compassion is radiant. She is one of the kindest professors I've had here at Scad!!! I highly recommend her!
Very inspiring and extremely clear expectations. You will learn a lot and she's the perfect professor to take to develop you skills when starting your academic career at SCAD.
If you do your work, pay attention, and ask for help you will do great. She is an incredibly caring and accessible teacher who makes it clear what her expectations are. Her demos and feedback are extremely helpful and she doesn't waste time on pointless info. She is easily the best online teacher I had, I wish all of my online classes were with her
She is very kind in her constructive criticism and is never rude. She wants to push you to be better and do the best you can, and she does not compare you to other students but only to yourself. She is always willing to help and appreciates it more if you do ask for help. This class was also FOUN 240.
The thing that stood out to me the most was that Professor Rastegarpouyani was very understanding and gave great feedback, she let me know what did and did not work with my projects and always gave good advice on how to enhance my 3D forms. Her class encouraged me to find the confidence in my work even if it wasn't perfect.
Professor Sara Rastegarpouyani was AMAZING I went into this class with zero understanding of spacial design and fabrication and I thought that I was going to have a hard time with the class honestly but professor's exercise and project instructions made it SUPER!!!! easy to succeed. There's a plethora of opportunity for extra credit as well.
Great class. I learned a lot, and the projects were very manageable with the work-in-progress steps. The instructor was clear, helpful, and very responsive to emails. She was also accommodating with my disability needs. If you put in effort and participate, you will succeed. I would 100% take her class again!
She's super easy going and genuinely interested in our work and individual creativity. She does expect full effort and interaction to get a high grade, but she's fair. Overall this was a great experience considering it was an online course.
(Actual Course FOUN240) I enjoyed this course, it was a little intimidating at first. Professor Rastegar gives off an air of a no nonsense kind of teacher, even online. That being said, once the course was underway, she was actually very engaging, open to how we were trying to express our ideas, and encouraging us to do our best every new project.
