Sara made what we were learning clear. She also is very funny, so the class time was fun too. We did write a few papers, but they were nice topics... Expect lots of group work, lots of class participation. Be prepared to talk in front of the class.
Sara is so funny. I love being in her class and I love the way she teaches. She is an excellent teacher and I wish I didn't have to have her just as my english teacher. Sara is awesome!
Great Teacher and a good grader. I would recomend her
She is so funny, i loved this class. It was easy, and I missed a lot
great teacher.

Good helpful professor. Would reccomend!
Great teacher. Funny as hell. Has the funniest stories, her and her family.............lol...
Great teacher!! You'll like her and her stories. Class is pretty basic
Sara is an excellent teacher. She can be strict, but only if you deserve it (ie, you didn't do the reading, you talked back/got smart with her) We used the books for English 120, but not for 222, so be weary of that. I would definitely take another course with her if the opportunity arose.
Sara is a lot of fun and very helpful.
Very easy to talk to, very helpful
WONDERFUL teacher for Amer. Lit. I, is very interesting & makes class fun! She grades strictly but you can resubmit everything, even the take home midterm). I look forward to having Amer. Lit II with her. Great teacher, though for lower level classes she seems to have little patience. A teacher for serious students only, no slackers!
Great teacher!! Actually learned stuff in class and improved my public speaking!
Ha! Rivara, Rivara, Rivara... Take her only if you care what you are learning about or if you enjoy learning. If you have an attitude or if you are really pompous, get ready to get a new hole. Much love for Rivara.
Amazing prof!! Highly recommended. Has fun but still gets her lesson across. My favorite course so far. I actually looked forward to class!
She's Awesome. Very Funny. Not affraid to say whats on her mind.
Very interesting teacher. She's very passionate about the subject and knows what she's talking about. She swears sometimes, so don't be surprised if she swears in your class. You'll have probably 4 or 5 novels to read and write essays on, plus handouts. There's a lot of note-taking compared to other English classes. She has a very cool personality.
I took 2 of Ms. Rivara's classes. I won't take English classes with anyone else. I loved her class, she is the coolest teacher i have ever had. she is young and swears like a sailor, she has a great personality and i was always excited to go to her classes. She is a very good teacher and willing to give extra help, just don't get on her bad sid
Love her! She truly cares about her students and wants the best for them. She is hilarious with her stories, and always keeps you laughing. She is a little unorganized with papers and such, but she is fun and an overall really good teacher!
I really enjoyed taking classes with Sara. She makes class fun, and is really laid back- she doesn't really seem like an instructor. She doesn't hand out 'A's and will tell you that, which as an 'English nerd' I really enjoyed.
She may offend some of the lighthearted but she can be funny and sometimes nice. She will really help you understand how to dissect literature (yours and others) and possibly a bit of yourself. She is a really cool and fun teacher. Highly recommended.
Very fun and great speaker.
Loves to swear.
Sara is one of the best english teachers I've ever had. I'm far from an english major but her class was exciting and engaging. She's fun to talk with, works with you and as a bonus she is very hot!
Sara is awesome. She has the personality of a college kid herself! She's a fair grader and knows what she's talking about. Really easy going and has a great class. I wish I could take all classes with her!
I love her... She's the best teacher by far i've ever had! She's beyond helpful and understanding expecally when your having a hard time writing or reading something! I would rec. her to anyone, she's just that amazing! Plus she acts like one of us students instead of a up tight professor!
She Is a wonderfull Person I just had her and she is so much fun
Sarah is strict but fair. She is willing to help if you are willing to learn.
She will forever be one of my favorite professors! She is so blunt and straight forward and tells you how it is! The papers we had to type were super easy and the lowest grade I got was a A- I hate english and just needed a general education credit and I'm soooo glad I decided to take it with her!
The best english teacher I've ever had!! Sara doesn't hold anything back. She says whatever is on her mind and she's hilarious! I've never been bored in her class. Her papers were on easy subjects to write on, and she is willing to sit down and help you revise and such. I hate english but i actually learned to tolerate it with her help.
Even though it was her last semester teaching at KVCC, she made a boring Lit. class fun. I'm gonna miss her blunt sense of humor and wish her the best with her transition to Oregon.
She is helpful and funny. Class was always interesting and fun so I didn't mind. You have to write three reaction papers but those are easy too. She's not a strict grader. I wouldn't buy the book though if you don't use it that often.
Very interesting lecture. She really knows her stuff and you can tell she truly enjoys teaching! Makes you think about your own interpretation!
This was one of the best classes I've had at KVCC! Sara was the best teacher ever! Hands down!
Very cool professor! She really made you think, and dig deeper into the books. It was a difficult class, but it was worth it! The class was very interesting!
Best professor I've ever had!
Ms. Rivara was great! I had an awesome year in her English courses! She looked very deep into contemporary texts, bringing me insights that I hadn't considered before. Definitely recommended!
Funny teacher who rocked the house though her lectures and interesting stories!
Sara was extremely knowledgeable, and her lectures were well organized and understandable. The course material can be difficult for those who don't have prior linguistic knowledge, but Sara was extremely helpful in making it understandable. Overall the class was extremely useful and informative. Can't rate her highly enough.
Wonderful professor and wonderful person. Take lots of notes and study them.
Sara is very organized and dedicated. She knows what she is talking about. The subject matter is pretty difficult. She requires that you memorize the entire phonetic alphabet early on in the semester, and exams you periodically throughout. There's also a few papers and a lot of history to memorize. The tests are hard but the class is rewarding.
I loved this class. we all got to be very comfortable with each other. Sara was a great teacher and makes everything understandable. You do have to learn, but if you don't have it all memorized, it really wont hurt you that bad.
Sara was one of the best English professors I have had. She was always willing to help, and her projects are all entertaining to do. There is no busy work, and she was very funny and understanding.
Sara was an amazing teacher. She did everything in her power to help the students succeed in her class.
Very nice and extremely helpful with writing. Most of the time in class was spent discussing readings, which were usually good reads.
She really knows what she's talking about and makes class a real joy to go to.
Sara was an awesome teacher! Probably one of the best I've ever had! Very helpful and really wanted her students to learn. Great teacher!
AWESOME CLASS!!! I have become such a better writer from this class, and Sara was a very cool teacher. She made everything clear and understandable.
Best English teacher I've ever had! This class made my transition from high school to college smooth and comfortable. She really helped me understand my errors. I'm thankful I had her for a teacher.
She's awesome!
Very nice professor, her class was easy enough as long as you keep up on the homework. Required only 3 papers the whole semester. The whole class period was usually spent picking apart and analyzing every detail of the stories you had read. Didn't take attendance, but had group discussions so often.
Excellent teacher. Cares a lot about the subject she teaches, and is very engaging with her classes. Very knowledgeable, and highly progressive with her literary concepts, which is very refreshing.
Great teacher... really enjoys what she does and you will improve in writing and English skills.
Loved this class with this teacher! She always made sure we understood the material, and would always have the best interest for us. Very fun and would love to have her as a teacher again! Defiantly recommend!
She is amazing! Such a nice and smart professor. Would love to have her again. Definitely recommend taking her class.
Sara is a very helpful teacher! She really cares about how well you are doing in her class. She is definitely a teacher I would recommend!
Sweet and passionate teacher who truly cares about her students.
Ms. Rivara kept the class and the assignments interesting. This class didn't require a textbook but we read short story handouts. She cares about her students and is always willing to help.
Awesome teacher! Really nice and helpful. One of my favorite classes for sure. The work is really easy, as long as you go to class.
I took her Advanced creative writing class and I loved it! You use every single one of the handouts she gives you, so no money wasted. She is funny and very understandable. Awesome professor!
Sara is Great! Extremely beneficial class! Helps you a lot! Highly recommend!
She was a great teacher. Show up to class and you will do well. She's the kind of professor that when you see her after class is over, she still knows who you are and cares how you are doing. I strongly encourage everyone to have her as a prof for English 110.
Very nice teacher. The grading was very appropriate. Really enjoyed her class, even though it was hard to stay focused at 8 am. I would recommend her for a professor. Lots of humor and good class.
Very entertaining, had great atmosphere for class. Was very thoughtful and rewarded creativity.
Sara is a great professor. She is kind, helpful, smart and nice. Her quizzes are very easy, but there is a lot of reading to do. She grades easy on the essays as well. I would definitely recommend her.
I had a lot of fun. Her intelligence is intimidating, but if you can get past that, you'll love her.
I hated the class at first because she seemed very strict, but in the end, the class was easy. Just do the work and you'll be fine.
Awesome. She is eccentric but she cares a lot and you learn a lot in her class. She will help you out any way she can.
Sara is a very good teacher. She knows what she is talking about. If you don't like her, it is probably because she makes the class challenging so you learn, unlike other KVCC professors. She is my favorite in the English department.
Wonderful teacher, really cares about English. Talks about herself a lot but leads an interesting life (she is a writer) so it's entertaining. She gives so much extra credit, it's insane. She will help you write any paper and the class is mostly graded on that and participation so just have her proof read and you'll do great.
Must attend class you will fail if you miss 6 and start loosing points after 3 absences. Class is very boring but overall easy if you do the work. Make sure you do the reading everyday if you want to do well in class. The class is all about participation and keeps track of how often you participate.
She is a very fair grader and seems nice overall. Just make sure you do the work and participate fully and you'll be fine. Nothing is there to trick you, it's all straightforward.
She is a really sweet lady. She always talks with students before and after class.
This is one of the greatest teachers I have ever studied under. She is fun, fair, and extremely interesting. I would recommend her to anyone in the English Dept. at Western. She is also a fantastic adviser.
She is great! She's so kind and sweet, she really cares about her students and obviously really loves what she does. Her goal is to improve your writing skills and if you participate in class they are definitely guaranteed to improve. I genuinely enjoyed going to this class every week. Be nice to this woman!
Best professor I've ever had. If it was possible I would take every English class with her.
Ms. Rivara is amazing. She's always there if you need extra help. She flat out tells you what she expects from you at the beginning of the semester and she holds you to it. She's not hard, per say, but she definitely makes you work for you grade.
Great teacher! Very helpful and cares about her students. She gives assignments that are worthwhile to class.
Great teacher. If you go to class and take notes she outlines, the assignments extremely clearly to make them easy to write. Don't really need the book.
She is a good teacher, class is structured, quite a bit of work but as long as you stay on top of your assignments you will be good.
Go to class and pay attention she wants you to do good and will always help you out. Just make sure to do all your work and you will get a good grade.
If you pay attention to Sara, you will learn a lot and get a good grade.
A lot of work, but very helpful.
Sara is extremely knowledgeable, and her lectures are well organized and understandable. The course material can be difficult for those who don't have prior linguistic knowledge, but Sara is extremely helpful in making it understandable. Overall the class is extremely useful and informative. Can't rate her highly enough.
Wonderful professor and wonderful person.
Good teacher but lots of writing. Best teacher at KVCC I've ever had!
I loved this class! Ms. Rivara is very knowledgeable and makes this class fun. There are lots of reading response papers! Most of her book choices though I actually did enjoy reading. The exams are basically take home so it's definitely doable. But if you go to class and read the books it is easy to do well on every paper and exam.
She really makes you think critically. Even manages to make American Lit. fun. Awesome professor!
Ms. Rivara is always trying to make class more interesting, not that it wasn't already! I loved the content of the class, highly recommend course and professor. One piece of advice: DO THE READINGS!
She is very fair. She knows what she's talking about and is passionate about it. If you read the material you will like this class.
She was great. Our class discussions were wonderful.
Sara is so smart and insightful. She is also really nice and open to everyone's ideas. She encourages everyone to discuss the literature we are studying and is never insulting even when people are crazy in their interpretations. She is super helpful and will meet with you any time. She is very respectful and communicates well in email.
An easy A! Pretty much everyone gets a high grade.
Not only is she a wonderful professor, she is one of the kindest, too. She encourages everyone to participate in class. She picks out an interesting reading list for the semester. I would take her class 10 out of 10 times!
Her class has a special place in our hearts!
Ms. Rivara makes you think about yourself, your future, your life as an English major. She applies all readings to you. I love her style.
You will learned how to write in many different ways-- critically, creative, and exploratory. It's really helpful!
Everything we learn like vocabulary and writing style, we use later in our classes. So it's all useful. No waste in this class.
She makes you into a human being. Classes are like therapy sessions for our hearts.
Ms. Rivara is kind, strict, and strict. She reminds me of my favorite professor back home in my country. That woman was the same. Strict and compassionate.
LOTS of reading. Papers, Projects, and Exams were super easy. You HAVE TO DO THE READINGS, and let me say it again, there are a LOT of them. The ONLY possible way to fail this class is to not do the assignments or not attend. We did a couple of creative group projects, and that was awesome, but start EARLY or you'll blow it.
She cares a great deal about her students and teaching in general. I learned alot in her lectures and she is a pretty easy grader. As long as you try to complete assignments, you'll get an A in her class
Super EASY class... If you feel like breezing through women's lit, this is the class to take. She's actually very sweet and understanding, I didn't make it to class alot and still got an A. I liked her
Ms. Rivara is a nice lady, definitely passionate about her job. We had a lot of papers to write but the assignments were pretty easy if you take the time to do them... just turn everything in and you'll be fine.
Easiest class I ever took. Easy going, gives take home tests. Just show up to class and your for sure going to get an A!
Ms. Rivara is pretty cool. She did have an inordinate amount of papers assigned, but getting through them wasn't tough and it forced me to use the library more, which is helpful. She is nicer than she seems at first, just show up, do the work and you'll get an A no problem.
She was good. She has hilarious stories and is very well spoken.
Ms. Rivara is a tough grader. Tests were open book/open note, but they were the hardest tests I have ever taken! She is a tough grader but a fair professor. She is willing to help and answer any questions that a student may have. Her lectures could be pretty boring at times.
Nice lady and very knowledgeable. The lectures are long but very understandable and relatable.
I thought this was an easy class, there were 3 easy papers, the test were okay, there were group quizzes on the readings, I got an A but some people found it harder. She tries to give a lot of examples to help us understand the material. The lectures seemed long.
I loved this course. I learned a lot, and most of the material could be directly applied to life. I enjoyed the use of personal examples as illustrators for course material and found Ms. Rivara to be a wonderful help.
I gained a lot from her class, she had many activities to make concepts clear. She expected a lot in her assignments but graded easily. She always knew people's names and was very interested in her students.
good teacher but lots of reading best teacher at KVCC!
I loved this class! Ms. Rivara is very knowledgeable and makes this class fun. There are lots of books and papers on every one, so you do have to read the book! Most of her picks though I actually did enjoy reading. The tests are basically memorization so definitely study for them. But if you go to class and read the books it is easy to do well.
Ms. Rivara is a very nice lady, and she grew on me over the course of the semester. My main gripe is that she never let us move tables in a circle so that we could truly have a discussion. Make sure to do the readings, and also write down all notes verbatim, they will be on the tests, which are half memorization, half symbolism, usually.
Cannot believe I learned so much! She really makes you think critically. Even manages to make poetry somewhat fun. Awesome professor!
Really teaches you to analyze literature. You must participate. Tests are pretty easy. Expect essays and papers. Go to her office hours - she will help you a ton on your papers and she's just a cool gal.
Ms. Rivara is always trying to make class more interesting, not that it wasn't already! I loved the content of the class, highly recommend course and professor. One piece of advice: DO THE READINGS!
She is the best history teacher I have ever had, easily!
Very helpful profesor. She knows what she's talking about and is interested in it as well. She treats you as an equal and looks at everyone's writing with an open mind.
A lot of assignment. But she is super nice and is willing to help all her students.
SO EASY! She LOVES her some busy work though! We turned something in almost every class, but everything is pretty much common sense that we talked about so it's easy! She super nice, too!
Overall good class, a little too much busy work but thats to be expected in a writing class. Most of the content is extremely applicable to anyone planning on going into a professional business environment - especially the resume workshop. She is very willing to work with you and besides being a little soft spoken, is a great teacher.
She's super nice, but tough on you - however it's for the best. She wants to get the best writing out of you that she possibly can. I enjoyed Ms. Rivara very much.
Sara is the best writing professor. She really helped my writing grow. She puts several hours into her students and will do anything to help you succeed. If you struggle with writing take her, she will make sure you do well.
She always made what she wanted known. Always helpful.
Very passionate and helpful teacher. Is great on feedback and if you are willing to put in the effort, she is as well. She really prepares you. She is very honest with you on your papers and will do her best to get you to pass.
Kind of hard to have a writing class asking for 3 papers and another class asking for a research paper.
I became a better writer because of her. She is known for having higher grades on her portfolios (each class has 3 papers graded at the end of the year by two teachers). She is willing to help and was such help when I went to her office hour once. Although all writing classes are long she lets you out early. Also she is very nice and cares.
Sara is a different type of prof. she's very non-traditional in her methods. Keep an open mind, read a few of the assigned readings, listen to the speakers and you'd be surprised at what you've learned, with out even knowing it.
Good class that has no midterms or exams just 3 papers and 3 exams. It's just a fun class to go to.
Sara is an awesome lady! She is outspoken than most professors but it helps keep the conversations in class going. There are 3 papers you have to write which are not hard and a few group projects. As long as you pay attention you will do fine in her class. She can be disorganized at times though.
Great prof. Really cares about students. American Lit. is a very laid back class, but you will learn a lot just by showing up and listening.
Ms. Rivara is a wonderful person, but the class was a bit too unorganized for my liking. The class itself is easy if you just do the readings and talk a little bit in class, but don't expect anything terribly stimulating. We barely touched any really interesting topics.
Really great teacher. Flexible and willing to work around what's best for you.
is very caring and understanding towards her students. Class is fun, you listen to presentations and discuss articles. She does give group projects and they're a little wacky, but otherwise this class is a go!
She's hilarious! She doesn't require any textbooks, she just puts articles on e-reserve. There are no tests or quizzes, just one group project and a few papers. She's also a SUPER easy grader -- I've gotten a 100% on every paper I've turned in!
Awesome teacher. There is no textbook, although she does ask you to read a few articles. Attendance policy, but she is very entertaining. Your grade is based on an EASY grou project, and like 3 papers, which only have to be 3 pages... EASY and FUN!
There is absolutely no structure to her class whatsoever. We've been in class for a month and done NOTHING. The good thing about her class though is that there are no tests ... but don't get on her bad side, otherwise, you're screwed!
I loved this professor. It is a really easy course as long as you do the required work. Very clearly explained in the course outline. Straight forward class and professor. I strongly recommend her she really does care about her students.
Great class. It really makes you look at yourself and thought it was. You still had to put effort into things and really be open minded.
She loves writing and gets the material across but she is very abrasive and talks A LOT! Not good if you aren't an auditory learner.
She is an amazing professor and hot too! Enjoyed her a lot. Take her for any class!
Very energetic teacher and you can tell she loves writing. Tries to prepare you for ENG 110, but overdoes it a bit. She is very demanding with the work load she assigns. Good teacher, just not the perfect one for me
Sara was amazing. I found her to be so helpful in bettering my writing skills. She genuinely cares about her students. She is strict about attendance and meeting deadlines on essay drafts. She made it seem nearly impossible to get an A on your portfolio, but I did; I don't think I could have though without her constructive criticism.
She is a great professor. Every paper you have in this class, she will help you through it. She knows what she is talking about and is always willing to help. I highly recommend her.
She is VERY helpful with papers and very straight forward. She will criticize them, but when she says your paper is good, she means it. She does not assign extra writing exercises, only papers for your portfolio. She works hard to get you the best grade and cares a lot about students. Take her if you get the chance.
She is organized and smart and nice and funny and has lots of energy. I feel like I learned the things I didn't learn in high school. I liked her so much that I signed up for her for ENG 110!
I admit that I already liked to write, but she was so good at helping me to improve. She tells you all assignments on the first day and she is willing to read your papers many times. She doesn't give you busy work, and she tells you exactly what you need to get an A. Take her if you want a nice teacher who cares about you.
Good class and she was definitely willing to help. There are certain days when she would get frustrated with certain students or topics but was always willing to help anytime with a paper! A nice lady to get to know!
Ms. Rivara was my favorite prof this semester! She is laid back, organized, helpful, and funny. This isnt an easy class but she will help you and if you take her advice you will pass. She has taught this class many times and she knows what shes doing. She only assigns 3 papers and she lets you pick your own topic. Take Professor Rivara.
First of all, nobody likes ENG 110. You basically spend all semester rewriting the same 6 papers. So you want to find a prof who will help you and won't make class too horrible. Professor Rivara is that professor. She tells you all assignments on the first day and she helps you to get the work done, which i needed. Very nice lady.
Super helpful . She'll read your papers and give honest advice. You have to take her advice, she knows what she's talking about! Very friendly, too. Highly recommend.
Great professor, helps you if you ask, tries to help you when you don't. TAKE HER!
Sara is a great teacher. I don't love to write and never liked English in HS but she made the class easy to take. We could write about any topic we wanted and she would always help us revise papers. There's no busy work and she really seems to care about your grades. Plus she's nice and she's funny, so class goes by fast.
Sara is awesome. She is very helpful and the best thing. I can say is she is really just a nice person. Class is laid back and easy if you do the work and don't skip.
Sara doesn't let you just slack off but she also isn't too hard. She basically just really cares about her students. I actually learned a lot from her class. Take her if you can!
Sara is really helpful. She doesn't waste time doing busy work and she mostly has you work on your papers i class. Shes organized and gets your papers back right away. She's a nice person and her class is one of my favorites.
She's really friendly and really doesn't seem to mind helping you. She puts a lot of time into reading your papers and you'll actually learn something.
She is the best! Super nice, low key, and caring. The class is supe organized and she makes it so you can get a good grade. Take her if you can.
She really gets to know her students. She asks about how you're doing before getting into class work. I dropped my other ENG 110 professor to get into Sara's class winter semester. She does take attendance though.
Loved the structure of the class. You get alot of time to work on papers while the prof helps you. she would sit at the computer and actually give suggestions right there. Very helpful, not much lecture. Great class to take in the summer. Also, she is very friendly, laid back, and very organized. Watch your attendance though.
Sara was very helpful, always got papers back the next class. Loved the relaxed atmosphere and the practical assignments. A very pleasant summer class. Highly recommend taking her for any writing class.
Although her take home exams and writing assignments can be quite dense on the essay questions, she does give you a chance to resubmit them for a better grade. She makes a class what seems to be difficult and boring easy and fun! She's all around hilarious and blunt!
She is honestly one of the best professors I have had at KVCC. She is so kind and funny, and you can talk to her about anything. She provides amazing feedback on drafts and will do whatever she can to make sure you get the grade you want and worked for. I would definitely take her again if I had the chance!
The class is though, but if you get time to talk to Sara. She's super helpful. Get your papers done and the class will be over pretty early. It's hard to get an A, but it's possible! Wouldn't of wanted any one else as a professor for ENG 110.
ENG 203 is tough but Sara will make it enjoyable. She rarely gives homework and works with you one-on-one with all of your papers. She is very funny, kind, and helpful. One of my favorite professors so far. I hate writing but I actually liked going to class. You write 4 papers and put 3 in your portfolio. Hands down take her for ENG 203.
Sara Rivara makes writing fun. She gives you two weeks to write each paper, and helps you through every step of it. She is funny and makes class interesting. There is no reason to not get an A for she is willing to help and revise your paper all the time. I would highly recommend.
Amazing professor who definitely knows what she is doing. Plus, she's funny, down-to-earth, and easy to talk to. She would always offer me help whenever I asked, and I loved how she let you work on your schedule without any extra busy work. I could tell that she really cared about the students' portfolio grades, including mine. Best prof!
Probably one of my favorite teachers. Really cares about her students.
I've had her twice now and seek her out for more classes. I learned so much from her. She is tough but in a good way. She is more interested in your learning than the letter grade. GREAT professor.
Awesome prof! She keeps the class interesting. Really makes you think critically. You don't have to write a lot of official papers, but you will have TONS of reading. Exams on the reading make you read. As long as you read, take good notes, and go to class, you'll be good.
So tough, but and awesome prof. She is so funny and is willing to explain anything. Just do the reading, TAKE NOTES, and study regularly. Cramming will NOT help you in this class!
She explains things very well and the Exams are easy. She's very nice and is flexible with things.
She is a wonderful teacher, and has a unique way of teaching. She grades hard, and tests are tricky, however if you study and keep up with the reading you will do fine.
Wonderful teacher, although she is tough, and hard exams, good prof though.
She is the best! Super nice, low key and caring. The class is super organized and she makes it so you can get a good grade. Take her if you can.
Ms. Rivara is very nice and very helpful. The class takes alot of writing but you mostly revise your papers andyou don't do a bunch of busy work. I recomend her very much.
She is very nice and helpful. Although I could tell she did not like me because of my behavior in class, she never used it against me while grading. She is a very fair professor.
Great Professor!!! She cares about her students and will help you if you ask. She is willing to meet after class and responds to emails. I highly recommend her!
The class is set up so you revise papers a million times. Kind of frustrating, but you realize the more she reads your papers, the better your grade will be. She is very helpful and flexible about dates, but attendance is mandatory. I recommend Ms. Rivara very much.
Ms. Rivara is very nice and she makes class bearable. She gives you lots of help and she doesn't make you feel like an idiot because you can't write. She's funny and laid back overall good prof..
Ms. Rivara is amazing! Take her if you can. She is very helpful and cares about her students. She is very knowledgeable and the classes are always interesting. The tests are all essay, but if you do the readings and pay attention in class, it isn't a problem! Awesome! Highly recommend taking her class!
Great Professor! Very knowledgeable and loves what she does!
Ms. Rivara is great! I was a little intimidated at first but she is so sweet and definitely a fair grader. There were two 5-6 page papers and a few exams on readings but they were never that long. So do the readings, listen in class, and take notes. I didn't study for the exams and ended up with a B+. TAKE THIS PROF :)
Took her twice. Very receptive to students who go in for help. If you take her class seriously and do the work she is a very fair grader. She knows literature and makes it interesting. She was a wonderful professor and a great lady, extremely intelligent. HIGHLY recommended.
Ms. Rivara is one of the easiest graders I've found at KVCC. I am not a great writer but have received A's on every paper so far. This class is almost a blow-off as long as you read the assigned readings. I can't believe people think she's a hard grader. She is so nice and sweet and very helpful!
I LOVED this prof. Although she can be a tough grader, she does it to make you a better writer. Class discussion was great, and if you didn't understand the text the discussion helped to clear up any confusion. She loves what she does, and she has been the best prof I've had.
Great prof. Do the work, come to class, easy A.
I recommend Sara, she's fair and organized and easy to talk to, doesn't make you feel stupid. The class is easy since a lot of people don't even know how to write complete sentences, so expect to go over basics.
Sara is very nice, very relaxed atmosphere but she takes attendance. The class is pretty easy and could probably just skip it and take ENG 220.
Sara is very laid back and friendly and the class is pretty easy. I would've gotten an A but I didn't turn in some assignments. Overall, she's nice and it's not a bad class.
The class isn't hard and she's very helpful, especially if you meet in her office hours. But you need to actually go to class though, takes attendance.
Loved the structure of the class. You get a lot of time to work on papers while the prof helps you. She would give suggestions right there. Very helpful, not much lecture. Great class to take in the summer. Also, prof is very friendly and laid back, very organized. Watch your attendance though.
This professor is awesome. She is so nice and fun. I had her for American Lit. I now I am going to take her for American Lit. II. Great professor and wonderful person.
She is so nice and funny. I think she has a lot of real-world class experience and teaches from this. I would take her again in a second. Really enjoyed this class.
Very easy going and understanding. Go to class, listen, and participate and you'll learn (and get an EASY A).
She really knows her stuff. All of the assignments that she has you do are very worthwhile. You will work hard, but will come away with many useful lessons that can be used in your classroom. Take any class she teaches!
She is great! I loved this class. Prof added a lot of helpful and useful personal experiences that can be applied in a classroom. It was easy but I learned a ton. The material is not hard but can be time consuming.
Lots of hands on work, stuff you will use in the classroom. Not just learning facts and theories but real stuff that you can use! She is kind of unorganized though!
She is extremely helpful and wants you to do very well in the class. Although she is tough when she edits your papers, in the end it is going to help your portfolio grade. She had extended online office hours which was nice if you were working on something at home and had questions. She is great and wants you to receive a good grade!
She is clear on the 6 papers you have to write an always available to help. You don't turn in any assignments that get graded just rough drafts that she makes comments on. Your grade is from 6 papers at the end of class? To get a good grade you need to be willing to write MANY drafts. If you don't miss a day she will plus your grade at the end.
She really made it clear she was there to help pass this dreaded class. Her feedback and many field trips to the library are the reason I believe I passed this class. I HIGHLY recommend taking her if you feel you struggle with writing. She really is a HUGE help!
Wonderful professor. She made everything very clear as to what she wanted, and what was to be expected from the writing department as well. Prof White was extremely helpful with revising and giving advice on each paper. Very passionate about writing which helped motivate students to do their best. The best professor I've had at KVCC so far.
Ms. Rivara is probably the best prof I've ever had. Very passionate about writing and will do anything to help her students succeed. She told my class this past winter semester that she has never failed a single person. My writing has changed drastically thanks to her! Take her class!!
Ms. Rivara is really wonderful. She really teaches you how to write. I have used her lessons in other classes to help me. Take her!
Ms. Rivara makes writing fun. She gives you two weeks to write each paper, and helps you through every step of it. She is funny and makes class interesting. There is no reason to not get an A for she is willing to help and revise your paper all the time. I would highly recommend.
Ms. Rivara is hilarious! Most people hear writing and think that it is boring but she makes it fun that you want to go to class. She is there for her students if they need her and she replies to her e-mail's very quickly.
Ms. Rivara is single-handedly the greatest prof I have had, I absolutely adore her. If you can- TAKE HER!
I am really happy that I took this class with her! She is very clear with what is expected from students but she's really laid back and funny. She is one of those professors that understands her students and she really does want everyone to do well. No outrageous assignments or busy work, just what needs to be done for your portfolio. Shes awesome
One of my favorite professors. So nice and helpful! I always looked forward to this class and enjoyed my time in there. I decided to be a creative writing major when I was taking her class.
Shes great, I loved going to class. she always makes it interesting and funny. lab time was boring but you don't have to stay the whole time. She's very helpful and gives a lot of points to help your grade. She has you read little short stories, read them for brownie points.
Sara Rivara was awesome! I admit that I already liked to write, but she was so good at helping me to improve. She tells you all assignments on the first day and she is willing to read your papers many times. She doesn't give you busy work, and she tells you exactly what you need to get an A. Take her if you want a nice teacher who cares about you.
