Great teacher will help you with anything you need!
Very easy class. She will do everything she can to help you with your Java knowledge as well as improve your grade. She has no intention of failing anyone unless you never go to class. I got an A.

Very easy teacher she wants you to learn and do well. The only problem is that she teaches tons of stuff you will have learned in 1214. You will do well if you teach yourself new techniques for use in doing the labs.
If you learned anything in ITCS 1214 at all, you don't have to go to class. Notes are online. No attendance policy. She is very helpful, but very unorganized. She trys hard, but if you really need to learn you might want to consider someone else.
Very unorganized. If you know your stuff already, and don't mind doing some research online to help w/ your programs, you'll do great. I sleep in her class (like everybody else) and still make an A. Notes are online.
You will not learn that much. but you will be happy in the class. Take her if you see that you learn in 1214
If you are lazy and just want an easy A, then take her class. Most students sleep in her class, many others do their own things...if this tells you how happy they are. Avoid her for your own good.
She's a Horrible teacher. Her class is pretty easy, mainly because she's a complete moron. Almost everyone slept in her class. It was a big waste of an hour of my time!
DO NOT take her, she is an idiot. Dosn't know how to turn the computer on, wasts time, never helps. Truly a black sheep.
Easy class, she is very nice but she can confuse you when she trys to explain things... over all id take her before id take some of the other CS professors... very nice lady...
Nice lady, worthless teacher. Very disorganized, never prepared, late for class and TESTS, never meets her own deadlines. I learned it all on my own and so will you. Care about learning? Get someone else.
Unorganized. Boring. Skip the class if you know what you are doing. However, she is really really helpful with higher level programming issues (I was taking this and a junior level class at the same time and she bailed me out a couple of times).
Extreamly nice woman, unorganized - but knows her java code VERY well, exams are based on power point slides and projects. Study the code and possible errors. You dont really need to come to class, unless you have a questions about something. TA's are available most of the time and VERY helpfull.
Helpful if you need assistance. She gets sidetracked a lot, tends to waste class time telling stories. If you plan to take more ITCS classes then I would try another teacher. She makes it too easy, didnt learn enough.
easy class...helpful teacher...take her if you need this class
she's a great teacher
Ms. Scott is a very nice lady but be prepared to learn on your own.
Teaches very clearly and allows students to be at their own pace. Very relaxed instructor. Only failure is her constant tardiness to class. I guess the stairs in Friday are a little too much for her.
If you have a knack for programming you might do fine with this professor. If you had a problem with 1214, then I would not suggest this teacher. You will have to teach yourself how to program and she does not do a good job of helping you work through your problems.
If you take this class online, be prepared to solve problems on your own. She IS helpful, yes... when you can find her. 2-4 day turn-a-round on email questions, so if you have a problem, be prepared to figure it out on your own or wait to turn work in late after your email gets answered. NEEDS TO DO BETTER AT BEING AVAILABLE FOR ONLINE STUDENTS.
Yes, she's nice, but in the way that she would make a great elementary school teacher. She does not teach on a college level. The class was annoyingly slow paced and the teacher just got on my nerves with her flighty behavior. I wonder though, how can a woman that can't type well and doesn't seem to know computers teach a programming class?
Wow, I was back in middle school for this class. Me and friends played Quake III over wireless on our laptops. Shes always late, never prepared, barely knows how to uses a mouse. Check out this picture for a good laugh: http://home.nc.rr.com/burpetcom/ScottInternet.jpg , or http://home.nc.rr.com/burpetcom/ScottBroken.jpg .
Very easy and helpful...take her if you want to learn how to do programming assignments.
well she is indeed easy professor, but very helpful. Test are easy as long as you pay attention in her class, and take note carefully. Easy to get an A for this class, but you aint learn much enough to take further ITCS class. Recommend her if you want an easy A @_@
Always late, even for exams. Abominably slow-paced. Look over your tests thoroughly; she tends to miscalculate her own answers. Don't expect to learn anything about programming. Focuses on arbitrary Java package usage and ignores important language keywords, semantics, etc. If you understand that last sentence, then you already know more than her.
if you know the material, easy a, and you shouldnt go to class. if you dont, this could be very hard for you, but it would be easy to cheat your way through it if thats what you wanted to do..not a great teacher of the material though. lectures by powerpoints which are available online.
She is the sweetest old lady on the planet. Easy to manipulate towards changing homework due dates and exam dates. I have even talked her into curving an exam. Tests are not cumulative 4 exams she calls Quizes. Easy grade if you know the stuff already kinda hard if your relying on her to teach. But I would take her again. I rarely attended class!!!
Great teacher. Very helpful. Easy to understand.
This class was the biggest waste of time. Imagine a monkey teaching computers...entertaining yes, but educational...haha yeah right. I have never seen a computer teacher crash their computer and have trouble logging on to teach...this class was tantamount with underwater basket weaving, completely useless!!!
Biggest waste of time. Not too smart. Coulda learned more just reading out of book. Reads powerpoints to you. Doesn't know enough to elaborate. Literally didn't even know how to tell if computer was on. Test are a joke, usually has wrong answers on key. Take someone else if you want to learn anything at all.
Nice lady but an organizational wreck. I stopped going to class about 2 weeks in and read from the powerpoint slides. Easy A if you have any programming background whatsoever. If you're new to programming you might want to look elsewhere or make friends with someone who knows a bit of Visual Basic or C++
Worthless Professor
This is a very good teacher. She explains things very clearly and make use of many real world example. I learned so much in this class.
If your good with computer programming then this is the class for you. If you have never taken any computer programming classes then do not take this class.
I took this class online @ it was super easy... I made a perfect score on my final. If you have any programming experience, it's a definite A.
I took this class online. It was easy as long as you stay on top of the assignments. The instructor is helpful however, not very organized. It took a long time to get back test and assignement grades.
I took 2 of her online classes.. and managed to keep an easy grade because the subject is easy.. but she is completely unorganized and does not provide feedback. Most the tests were not on the right material, a lot of mistakes were made with posting assighments. She got the 2 classes mixed up, worthless and horrible professor but easy class.
Took this as an online summer class. Incredibly easy class for anyone who has ever seen C or C++, but disorganized professor. I don't believe she spends more than an hour or 2 weekly on this class. Please don't expect that you will actually learn computer science or C++ in this class - it is a joke.
Had her in 1214 and 1215. Take these classes online if you have any computer science background whats-so-ever. You will make the easiest A of your life. She is a very nice woman but she does seem a little off the ball when it comes to...knowing anything. Prepare to have many a test corrected because she got the answer wrong when she made it.
I took both computer science and business programming at the same time with her, and always got A's. Both classes where online, and not that difficult. If you go online just once a week and spend a few hours reading the material you will do fine. About 8 assignments, 3 tests and a final.
All the reviews so far are quite accurate regarding her promptness to anything from grading tests to responses. You literally forget what you asked her because it takes so long for her to respond. Her Ta is pretty useless as well. Since its an online class, she should be more punctual when questions are asked.
I had Scott for prgrming and comp sci.If you are fam with C or C++ you will do fine. However, new users, you have no help b/c no formal lesson on intrnt. Extremely tardy responses, leaves it up to T.A. to help students. T.A. usless b/c cannot answer ?'s on assignments. 8 assignments, 3 tests. If you get stuck your S.O.L. and on your own. Good Luck!
Online class. Super easy if you are familiar with C++. It's almost pointless because you won't learn anything. She sometimes takes very long to respond to questions and completely neglected the class the last week which is when everyone had tons of questions about the final! She should be extra responsive because it's online.
Online class, fairly easy. Tests were mostly based on how well you were able to look up obscure facts in the book. Nice enough person, but fairly useless when it came to responding in a timely manner to postings on the board. VERY slow to respond, TA's VERY slow to grade programs. Didnt learn a thing in this class.
I took this class online. Overall the class was easy. It is pretty low effort if you are a logical thinker. All programming is done in MS excel. Make good use of the book and powerpoints and u should do fine. This case is not as hard as its made out to be. The olny hard thing is the test. Its very logically based test. Made an A in the class though
Extremely nice lady, tries to help but really just isn't able most of the time. Very disorganized, but the class material is very easy. Little to no experience in programming and I have an A. Notes online so I only go to labs (once a week) and that's only if I have a question... I would take her again..
She was very useless when it came to learning the material but she did try extremely hard to help us. She showed she understood the material and answered all questions. Class was overall easy with all the notes online - self teach!
My third class with her and still the same problem. She's very slow to respond to email and online message boards, ironic given that its an online course. The tries to help, but doesnt really give any decent advice. You're usually better off just asking another student.
Horrible. Lack of communication between her and her TA. Lack of communication with the students, via email or message boards. Communications and e-mails are made AFTER due dates, then you are docked points for being late. Misunderstandings lead to lost points due to unclear instructions and lack of response. Easy grade, but horribly organized
Horrible professor. Took this online for filler class- I knew the material fairly well previously. Professor does absolutely nothing but post assignments. She takes a week to answer email or forum questions, if she even answers, and TA rarely does either. Book assignments uncle and often wrong. Still made an A, but don't take this to learn.
She means well and is a sweet person. She mainly reviews powerpoints that she posts on Moodle. I enjoed the class, (never took a programming class before), but it was helpful and pretty easy. I dont think i would have understood it if it was an ONLINE class, its more of a hands on face to face class. Look over notes and you will be fine. I recommend
This is the 3rd class I've taken from this professor online. The tests and assignments are easy. However, the professor is useless, good luck if you can get her to respond to an e-mail. Always posts assignments and grades WAY late. If you need help you'll have to turn to the TA's to get any kind of feedback.
EASY online class. Have assigned reading each week and a Microsoft document to complete. Tests are super easy but make sure your completed assignments are ABSOLUTELY correct because the grading is harsh! The teacher and TA (grader) are very slow to respond to E-mails. Overall, easy A
This online class is mostly easy except for the labs which are difficult and misunderstood. The grading is harsh on the labs, which is not good b/c the labs are where u get most of ur points from. Each lab is worth 100 points and I got a 29 on my first one. Hopefully that helps in explaining to u how unfair and harsh the grading is. DO NOT TAKE!
Careful with this class. The text is straightforward + easy, tests not hard if you do your reading. LABS are another story. Grading on these is crazy strict and often doesnt make sense. Lab grades way, way lower than they should be. Grades posted very low then changed later during session?? Stay on top of your grades if you take this class. Caution
This professor LOST my final exam...Yep LOST MY FINAL EXAM. So instead of saying 'I'll get the TA to double check for your exam', or a 'sorry'...she rolled my other grades together to come up with a final exam grade. Thanks. I know I did really well on the final - a lot better than the grade she 'gave' me. UGH. Really? Horrible professor.
Professor Scott is worthless as a teacher. I tried to email her for help but she didn't reply. She spends at least 10-15 min each class fumbling with the computer/projector. Pointless to go to class. Stick with the book and you'll do fine. Nice lady but not a good teacher. Hope for a good TA!
Awful professor. Class is more boring than death itself, study guides are a joke, and likes putting trick questions on her tests. Too bad she's the only 1213 professor.
Class time is spend going over powerpoints
Absolutely horrible. She does nothing but goes over PowerPoints in lecture and some of her labs and assignments cover things she never even talked about in lecture. Don't expect to learn jack about Java programming from this.
Just reads off PowerPoints in lecture and thats it. Labs are very poorly written and in most of our labs the TA had to correct something or teach us something new because she never mentioned it in lecture or her slides. Some of her labs are way more difficult than she thinks they are and in some the whole class stayed the entire time.
really easy class. the tests were only 30 some multi choice each. there are a few tricky ones tho. People who say they can't understand whats going on is because so many students in the class wont shut up and pay attention, she has to ask people to be quiet multiple times each class and they dont listen.
She is so confused. class is from 11-11:50 she always walks in at 11:08. by the time she starts its 11:15. fumbles with notes and is clearly not prepared. reads short ppts which makes you think its easy until you see labs and programming assignments. DO NOT TAKE! if you do remember i warned you cause i am telling the truth
Good Professor! Makes helpful labs.
Probably the most clueless professor I've ever met. Doesn't know how to use any form of technology, yet teaching CS. Lectures are useless: she'll come in about 5 minutes late, spends 10 minutes turning on the computer, another 15 telling everyone to be quiet when no one is talking, and maybe 20 minutes on actual course content. Please, retire soon.
haha. So bad, you might have to take her for ITCS 1213, but if there is a glimmer of hope that you don't have to. DON'T TAKE HER. She should really think about doing something else for a living.
Not the clearist teacher out there, but not horrable. Alot of her students are freshman that expect to have their hand held. Upper classmen who have learned how to study do not mind her.
Honestly, I don't see how she managed to get a job working with - much less teaching - Java. She has difficulty navigating through Windows XP and goes through too much effort to copy and paste something when she could easily type it again. That said, the class was done well. We shouldn't be spoon-fed like in ITCS 1212.
Read the book and you'll do fine. Did not attend a single class and got an 'A'
Basically the worst teacher I have ever had - she does not know the material, she reads off power point slides and uses what is presumably someone else's code. When she has to write code in class she makes obvious errors, and doesn't know why it doesn't work. On the plus side the lab should teach everything you need to know. (But my ta was useless)
I found java interesting. Professor Scott seems to know programming well but not basic computer operations. The reviews for the tests were helpful. There are labs that help you practice the material. The programming part on the lab test is always like something done in lab.
I'm literally in tears laughing at these comments because they're so true! She honestly made things more confusing for me, but the study guides ARE helpful. TA's aren't great, but labs aren't too bad. Shouldn't be too hard to pass if you study a little.
Horrible professor, installed a virus on her computer mid lecture... shouldn't be allowed to touch a computer, and will respond to 1/10 of your important emails.
She’s actually friendly and relatively helpful. It is annoying to observe her using a computer; however, it's easy enough to learn what you need. She teaches an easy course if you understand programming at all and don’t focus on her (distracting, but immaterial) shortcomings. Her course will familiarize you with Java and that’s all you really need.
She means well, but she is a very confusing professor. I couldn't learn a thing in her lectures. I suggest going to the lectures, find out what she is trying to teach, and then look it up in the text book. You're far better off with the text book!!
SHE READ THROUGH HER POWER POINT, AND TOOK ATTENDANCE ONLY ONCE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER. I DID NOT LEARN ANY THING FROM HER CLASS. I LEARNED A LOT MORE FROM U-TUBE VIDEOS AND WENT TO A TUTOR IN THE ACADEMIC ADVISING CENTER. HER TESTS ARE KIND OF EASY IF YOU UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL.
Not sure how she learned Java due to the fact that she can't perform basic computer operations. Doesn't go over lessons, instead pokes around on the IDE entire time thinking we can follow what she's doing(half the time her code has obvious errors). Only gave one attendance quiz the entire semester, so you have no bonus points to help you out later.
Professor Scott is great! This is an online class, but I really feel that she is helpful when asked. I am doing awesome in her ITCS 1101 class. A few days ago I ran into technical problems and she was very considerate and gave me a second chance! Not many professors would do the same. I am thankful that I have Sara Scott and my professor.
Super easy online class. I would definitely take this class again since it is basic computer operations that we do on a daily basis. You have two assignments to do each week and they are not tough to do at all. She also gives a late period to turn in your work with no penalty. The downside to this class is that she hardly ever answers e-mails.
Easy enough if you pay attention. She goes very slow (too slow) making us get behind a lot. notes are put online and she tells you before if there will be a clicker quiz.
She tries, but she's just not a good professor. I learned everything from the textbook and my TA in lab. The material isn't difficult if you're goo at learning on your own, but if not I'd take this course with Bruce Long instead.
The instructor of this class stumbles over her own code constantly. She uses C++ programs as examples for a Java class which is very confusing, and the worse part is she struggles to turn the computer on some days. If it wasn't for prior programming experience this would have been a nightmare for me.
In general a very easy professor, goes slow for anyone with even a basic understanding of computers.
Boring, not helpful at all. Easy A for students with previous programming experience or have other means of learning.
100 on every assignment except one, which I planned on not doing since based on the grading scale, I would still get an A in the course even if I got a 0. However she decided to change the grading scale the night before grades were due, at which point I received a B. And then didn't respond to my emails until a day after the grades were in.
Prof. Scott does not seem she has had much experience in real world coding. When ever I email her about a question about grades she always directs me towards a TA as if she is not in control of the grades. I feel like I am learning nothing during her classes. Ive had to learn certain methods and techniques through other my peers or through labs.
This class is a joke, you won't learn anything in the lectures and only learn what little you can from the labs. She does not know how to teach, even though she might be in the profession. She just goes over powerpoints and gives assignments for attendance. If you don't have previous coding experience, you'll have to work for it.
The entire class is posted at the start of the semester, so you can get as much done at once as you want. Grading criteria is very clear, no textbook needed. This is my second online class with Scott and they both have been easy to navigate and great grade boosters. A TA grades all the work. You need the textbook to answer discussion questions.
This class is super, super basic, especially if you've already taken a programming class. The professor lectures for the first fifteen minutes or so, which you don't have to pay attention to, and then you can leave once you finish the assignment, which usually only takes 10-15 minutes.
Don't take. assignment instructions are always unclear to follow and the mindtap website you're required to pay $100 for is super faulty and never grades assignments properly.
This is one of the most basic classes I've ever taken. If you show up for class and complete the assignment, you'll breeze through. The pre-test assignment you're given is essentially the test, the test is just written slightly different. Major negative: you have to pay for Mindtap that is never used.
If you are looking to understand and actually learn SQL, do not take this teacher. This teacher does not teach at all. Although I took her online, the contents she posts are from different schools. If you are just looking to pass 3160 with an A without learning about SQL, then take it with Scott.
This lady teaches an online class and can't use a computer. Easiest A you will ever receive. Month long breaks between work and tests are from quizler
I am thankful that I signed up for this class. This LBST was essentially a basic Python coding course. It was made for people that have no experience whatsoever. I had no Python experience and each assignment was maybe 20 min of work every 3 weeks with super easy tests. It did seem as if Dr. Scott forgot about us in the middle of the semester.
Online class in which she NEVER responds to email. Takes forever to grade assignments, unclear directions, copy-paste coding assignments from java except this time it's c#. Honestly, I don't think she's even looked at the canvas page for this class more than twice this semester. It's like pulling teeth trying to get any help or meaningful feedback.
TAKE HER IF YOU WANT AN EASY A IN PYTHON. super easy class, but you really don't learn anything. she has powerpoint slides that tell you the generic basics of python. she has some assignments that are all bs pretty much but you can always self learn from the textbook if you want to learn it.
If you want to spend a lot of money on college education and get taught nothing in return, take this professor. She cannot care less about her job. Her email responses are always one-line and dismissive (if she replies at all). Disorganized instructions, unclear grading criteria, barely any feedback, and somehow you still pass.
The class is very easy. The work was just zybooks, tests, and a few assignments. It barely had any work. However, the professor doesn't give out clear instructions regarding the class and she rarely responds to emails so be aware of that.
very easy assignments-easy A
Easy A. Just do the work She takes a long time to reply to emails. Doesn't give out clear instructions and even the syllabus wasn't updated. She legit forgot she was teaching a summer course and never updated canvas. Final grade was made up of a midterm, final, 2 mini essays, and 3 quiz like activities. HW was optional for summer term.
The course was based on basic Computer science to learning Python, it was easy if you read and complete everything in Zybook. Yes, that is something you'd have to purchase. Assignments and Projects are easy. This class is the easiest A you could get.
Easy A. Zybooks is basically your teacher. Scott takes a long time to respond to emails, so your best bet would be emailing the TAs instead. There are around five assignments, a midterm, and a final.
4 programming assignments. Professor barely communicated with students. Took up to 2 weeks for a email response, if she decided to respond. For a professor, I would not recommend her but the class is easy. Basically Java assignments but C#. Would be a very difficult class to learn if you have no prior experience.
Easy class with a professor who obviously doesn't care. Quizzes had the wrong answers for some of the questions, an assignment I did 2 months ago still hasn't been graded, and the one time I emailed her about there being 2 finals listed, she replies with a passive aggressive response saying she already sent out an announcement, which she never did.
Being asynchronous, the professor and TAs were hard to reach since some assignments had to be hand graded. What helped was having a discord with the other classmates. Not a lot of homework fairly easy class.
Do not take this class if you actually want to learn anything at all. I'm really disappointed considering this is a university-level course. Even some of my worst community college courses are better than this. If you actually want to learn SQL take a different instructor or teach yourself.
Bad teacher, she gave us slides/power points and videos to teach ourselves. Doesnt care about the class and doesnt communicate, she expects us to check when our own assignments are due (which is fair), but she didnt announce when the class starts or if it is an in person/online class. PS: dont buy the book useless, and there is a pdf version
This online class was not difficult but I feel like I learned nothing from it. Don't take this class online if you would like to actually learn the material, but if you want an A with nothing besides a few hard assignments, this class is for you.
Due to her personal health conditions, she was not able to be as active during this semester. This class was very easy and the zyBooks was optional, I would recommend it ONLY IF you don't know the basics of coding. I had like 2 assignments per month, and the final was a 75 multi-choice test about python coding. The hw was very easy nothing hard.
Professor Scott is very hands-off and takes several days to respond to emails. Your best bet is emailing the TA first. Not the most exciting class, but it's straightforward with open-note exams, and the assignments are all laid out from the beginning. Take Scott if you need something relaxed to balance out a tough course load.
Professor Scott outlined the entire course on canvas from day one, the assignments were only accessible for a couple days before its due, but she has a very lenient late work policy, only taking off a single point per missed day. She is a very hands-off professor, rarely sending out announcements, or other communication. Overall she was alright.
This class is essentially a way for UNCC to make more money from tuition, if you dont already know the basics of how computers work or the basics of python than you may find some value from this course. Otherwise I would say this course is just "pay us for 3 degree credits" more of the universities fault than the professors.
If you're taking her for critical thinking, it's an easy A. This class is just the basics of python and computers in general. If you need to take a 6th class one semester, definitely take this class with this prof. The prof feels absent but the content given is enough to help you pass with an A.
One of the easiest A's you could get. All the work is in our textbooks and we only had 2 assignments that she needed to grade which was a 300-word essay. The rest were quizzes that Canvas automatically graded. She never uploaded the final exam despite us being supposed to have one and didn't bother to let us know if it was intentional or not.
The content was easy but the way its set up is horrible. The $100+ zybook we barely used any but you have it get it because weekly quizzes and exams are based entirely on it. Some questions in the final exam were from stuff we hadn't even learned. She forgets to publish modules and takes days to repond to emails. I wouldn't recommend.
I took the class and got an 85%, then she failed me and did not respond to any emails again.
I took ITCS 3160- Database Design with professor scott in the fall semester of 23". I have never been in a class where the professor has been completely unresponsive from all emails. I had emailed her numerous times with no response and had to reach out to TA's for any help. Online class was easy and almost all assignments are on chegg.
She does not really respond to any emails. It is currently April and I am about to graduate in a few weeks and still have no idea what I have in this class because not a single assignment this semester has been graded. I am genuinely concerned because only the automatic canvas quizzes have been graded so I have no idea where I stand as of now.
Professor Scott is one of the better online instructors at Charlotte, her canvas was well organized, outlined what she expected from each assignment or quiz, and clearly stated deadlines. Her late policies are very lenient, and she is incredibly understanding if you have questions or need to submit something late. Absolutely would recommend :)
7 assignments entire semester that are incredibly easy w/ 0 coding. textbook was zybooks and wasn't used once so don't waste money if you take her. midterm is easy and so is final. it's comical how easy this lbst 2301 is compared to the other sections of it. if you want easy A take her
extremely easy class, one 20-30 minute assignment every like 3 weeks maybe? you probably will not learn anything from it though.
Easy A
It is literally May 3rd, middle of the exam week and the professor still hasn't told us if there is a final exam or not. I have emailed all of the TAs and the professor multiple times about the final and not a single response from any of them. If you want an easy A, I guess take this class but the entire set up of this class is unprofessional.
Easy A!
By all measures, this is a horrible professor. However, the course she teaches is absurdly easy and it would be silly not to take the class with her. Be prepared to learn nothing as you get your A.
If you want to learn SQL, definitely take this professor! Her lectures are super informative, but the class is very difficult so beware. You learn a lot though and although things pick up fast and the tests are pretty hard. Definitely take if you really want to learn though.
Professor never replied to emails. TAs were never available (they never showed up to "their" office hours). Horrible quiz creation w/ ambiguous answers that defeat the purpose of learning (cookie-cutter learning). Posted exams last minute. Unclear grading criteria. If you honestly want to learn SQL, do not take this professor.
Professor Scott's ITCS3160 class is straightforward with open-note exams. While she's hands-off, the assignments are laid out well. Unstuck AI was a great study tool alongside the course materials. Take this class to balance a tough schedule.
