AWESOME PROF!!! veery nice and funny. Really makes you think about our society today. Uses great examples and makes the class tons of fun and interesting!
Awesome professor. She really cares about teaching and having her students learn. Intereactive class. Good amount of reading, but it is interesting. Super nice, down to earth and easy to talk to for help or just in general. I highly suggest you take her.
GREAT TEACHER. Gets you involved in class while making it very comfortable to do so. Great attitude towards students always willing to help even out of class. Overall she makes class fun and I would reccomend her any day and hope to take another class with her. Slight reading and a few papers but attend class and pay attention and get an A
She grades on her own beliefs. If your opinion is different than hers, she lets you know you are wrong. I have never seen a teacher play favorites like her. If you want to continue with high school antics take her but if you actually want an education I would strongly suggest Denise Johnson.
Easy class! Not much homework! She makes it very interesting and is very helpful with any questions!
Great teacher. She really makes you think argumentatively and logically. Very open class. Good overview of the family. If you take Soc of the Family, take it with Dr. Sara!
Sara is so freakin cool. Her class is really fun and you get to interact a lot the whole time. there are no tests and its almost all group work. take sociology with sara you'll love it!
Grades on her own opinions. Uses many refrences to the punk rock scene - if you don't know about it you're not cool. If you don't agree, don't bother speaking your mind. You'll be humiliated or ignored. Book not covered at all in class.

sara is awesome! very understanding and open. i really learned alot. i took this class as a re-take because i got a C- in another class. i got an A in her class because she helped me understand and integrate my learnings to real life things. i highly recommend sara!
Sara is just what BCC needs. Different and engaging. This is sociolgoy people and this subject is relavent to everyone, whether you admit it or not. If you want to read about Marx and Frued go for it, but you aren't going to get up to date material. I mean, come on, those guys are dead and have no idea whats going on today. She introduces ideas you
I enjoyed this class.Sara can seem like she is picking on you, or sarcastic, but it is just part of her personality and not personal at all.It probably means she likes you and just wants you to take a deeper look at what you are talking about. She will make you search out answers for yourself.fun for challenging your beliefs and not just lectured at
If you don't agree with her don't bother speaking up. Rude.
Sara is a fantastic teacher! She is not only an intelligent thinker herself, but she also challenges you to be the same. Be sure that if you speak out, you know what you are talking about and why, because she will make you think critically about this. She seems to actually care about her students, which is rare.Sara ROCKS! Take SOC with her!
CSBS 310 EWU@BCC Class was easy. She speaks her mind and says what ever. Fun class watch cool movies and talked about fun topics. Did alot of group work. She is very unclear when explaining things. Offered a ton of extra credit toward the end of class. Got an A+ in the class. Weekley 2 page papers and little reading.
She is a wonderful teacher. She gets you thinking about your self and the world around you. Its a fun class even if you are shy and don't participate you still get a lot out of it. She is an easy grader and actually cares for you. shocker right? take her!
Very easy teacher. She doesn't really have a plan for the day and just makes stuff up along the way. I learned alot from her. She doesn't like it if you talk all the time, so dont try to control the discussions. Also gets very defensive if you have different views then her.
She's an amazing teacher! She always has an interesting topic to discuss, most of the time it's something that really makes you think-I've taken 2 of her classes and it's literally changed how I think of our society as a whole. All of her classes require a lot of effort, so if you're planning on sitting back and relaxing, don't even take her class.
Sara is amazing. She is very helpful, gives great writing assignments, and is fair in her grading. Shes pretty easy on the eyes as well! I was constantly impressed when I took her class online this quarter and she had over 100 students to manage. I dont know how she does it!
Sara is pretty awesome. She helps you if you need the help, but be ready to be criticized(but don't take it personally). READ the BOOK, a lot of the learning is on your own from the book. Generally she has activities/lectures or movies for you to see about what you're discussing. Show up to class, read the book, do the assignments, and you're good.
Dr. Sara has a slightly dark sense of humor and a unique teaching style that some students may not be prepared for. The homework, readings, and projects are quite intense, but you will learn a lot. She grades more upon your understanding of concepts rather than small details. Classes are mostly discussions of readings. Excellent, but challenging.
shes grrrrrreat! she is very helpfull if you need help and is nice to boot. take her class!
if you like to be indoctrinated go for it. i felt like i was sitting in a liberal reeducation camp
I didn't learn anything in her class, in fact she barely taught. We either watched movies or saw people speak at school. As a sociologist she's not the best as she is the most opinionated "i'm right and you're wrong" type of person I have ever met. Not very sociological... I don't even think she read our papers.
Sara is great. I was hesistant about taking a sociology of religion class and really had no interest in it but by mid quarter I couldn't get enough. She's engaging and smart. Lessons may seem off base at first but end up tying in perfectly with the curriculum. She generates great class discussion and i'm looking forard to more classes with her @ BC
She is very opinionated and thinks she is always right. Don't even think about speaking up and actually saying what you really think if it goes against her views. She will constantly disregard students' ideas and opinions if it is not leftist or liberal. She is nice on the outside but seems to be very discriminating on the inside. VERY judgemental.
Sara is the best!! She makes you think about all aspects of the issues at hand. The discussions in class are amazing and interesting, as you can learn from each students personal situations. Thanks Sara!!!
She's pretty dope!
I really enjoyed Sara's class! She put a lot of effort into developing the curriculum. One drawback is that she had us write a 8-10 page paper for the quarter. I'm not a fan of essays so it was very challenging to write one that long. Fortunately, she breaks it into steps so that it isn't so overwhelming. Summary -> Outline -> 2-3 pages -> 5-7 pages -> 8-10 pages. She also offers assistance to anyone that needs help with writing. Very good teacher. No textbook, assigned a fiction book only.
She is a great teacher. Very flexible and understanding when life gets in the way. She expects a lot from you, which personally I think is great. It is a challenge that I think everyone should be up for. She makes research papers and class discussions fun :) I wouldn't suggest taking her class if you do not like writing.
A prof that has a Ph.D., tattoos, and competes in roller derby. Why not?!! Sara is a prof that deviates from normal profs in college. That being said, her classes cover unorthodox sociological behaviors. You'll explore and question the very subjects that most people are afraid of or tend to ignore based on cultural influences. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Great teacher, very understanding and funny. Death and dying is a fantastic class and I highly recommend it.
Amazing teacher, super nice and helpful when you have questions. I hate online classes but she was really patient with me, absolutely loved this class.Take death and dying if you get a chance, it's a very eye opening class and well worth the time. :)
I took a summer class, online. Everything was OK except communication and technical part: some problems like grades that were not showing were never fixed even though it was brought to Sara's attention in the beginning of class. Feedback on assignments was very helpful and timely, but otherwise answers to questions wouldn't arrive until too late.
The best professor I have had thus far. Personable and reasonable. Do what's asked of you and you will have no problem. It doesn't hurt that she is attractive!!!! A must take...ANY class that she's teaching!!---ND24
Very funny, and sorta biased. I liked all the subjects we studied. Recommended if you like hard classes.
I was very pleased with her Intro to American Culture class. It's a two-credit class and the assigned work matched this perfectly. Rather than a textbook she found outside sources in a variety of media, all of which was informative and helpful. My only complaint was that grading was a bit behind the curve, but everyone has busy times.
she has an awesome personality! but i hated it. actually , i think i loved the class itself but hate the fact that i have noooo clue why im not doing well in it. shes not very direct in what she wants. no midterm and no study guide for the final. BE THERE! shes a fun teacher, no presentations just one major paper and some quizzes.WRITE NOTES
Some things in the course were a little confusing. Some papers and articles were hard to find. There were many aspects of this class that were expected or required that became confusing. Sometimes things were stated by the teacher as optional, but were actually required content.Especially when some content is changed. calander was not upto date.
I took her online class and did pretty well in there, she's quick to reply to any questions and her test questions are pretty interesting and relevant to the reading.
I took her intro to sociology 101 class and all I can say is that I loved every second of it. She gives solid explanations on every topic she teaches and even gives students a chance to give suggestions of what to have more of in class to make them do better. If you want to have a fun learning experience you won't ever forget, take a class by her
Sara is very interested in helping you discover new ways of thinking of things and creating new ideas on your own. There is moderate comprehensive reading. Take good notes, she won't give you answers but she'll answer your questions if you put the effort in.
Great class a must take
Dr. Sara is AWESOME!!! The class was really interesting and she is very clear about her expectations. I learned a lot and had fun doing it! The discussions were fascinating and the video clips she showed in class were very relevant. I didn't really like the textbook and some of the readings were boring but over all this is a great class!!
Dr. Sara was able to make her students realize and learn the ideas and topic through interesting movies and class discussions. I found her class inspiring and insightful. I took her class my last quarter... I would have gone out of my way to take another of her classes.
Took online. Lots of external sources (films/websites) to support a weak text. Lots of written work. Instructor not always prompt in posting assignments making deadlines difficult to meet. That said, she may modify deadlines if the class asks. Make sure you format word document assignments correctly! Interesting class if you choose to be involved.
Nice lady but worthless @ answering q's & helping students out.Took her FOREVER to respond to students.Doesn't provide clear answers 2 ?'s & would change assgn. due dates 'cuz she kept forgetting 2 post them. Takes 4ever 2 respond 2 emails. Was supposed to provide me w/analysis of final paper but never did, even after emailing her twice about it.
Takes too long to respond to emails. Material was on the test that we hadn't covered yet so I had to spend exam time reading ahead. frustrating
Very disorganized and gave little help to students. I could have learned everything on my own....which I pretty much did. Easy A if you just do the work.
Enjoyable class. Simple enough, lots of writing assignments which could be taken as good or bad. Only had to use textbook for specific assignments, but didn't open it the entire quarter but to read those assignments. Class was easy enough, but the teacher was attractive, so it was kind of distracting.
Doc Sara is an awesome professor! Everything we did in and outside of class helped me tremendously with sociology! Highly recommend taking her class if you take any sociology course
I was put off at first by the professor because she came off as very liberal and opinionated; however, I enjoyed her class more and more as the quarter progressed. She was fair with her grading and adequately prepared us for any tests/quizzes. She included a fun and thought provoking "Facebook Friday" component for our hybrid class as well.
Very interesting class and fun. Dr Sara was always helpful as long as you asked. She has many classes so sometimes takes a bit to get back but always did within 24 hours. This is not a class to take if you don't like to read. As long as you read and think for yourself, you'll get a good grade.
I really enjoyed this class. I took the online class due to my schedule. There is a good amount of work and weekly test that are pretty simple as long as you do the reading and work. Overall great class and easy A if you do the work.
This class took up as much time as my 5 credit classes. Be prepared you may not have a final or midterm, but all the reading and researching takes a LOT of time. Professors questions are not always clear as to what she is looking for in your answer. I don't feel this professor should be teaching this class.
Quick to respond with questions and she gives all people a chance to pass her class easily with EC and chances to correct your papers.
Didn't have issues w/ Sara until Midterm wk and had still not rec'd more than 2 assignments back as graded. As I'm writing midterm paper, she sends back a 40pt paper from Wk 2 with 20% docked, marked in rubric as "did not support ideas". She was no where to be found for clarification. Expects you to be accountable, then vanishes. How do we learn?
Lots of work in this class. Everything is easy and complete busy work but I would catch myself doing 3-4 hours of work on only 2 assignments. Teacher takes forever to grade things. It's finals and I still don't know what I got on 5 assignments. Nice and understanding teacher, but sometimes may take a while to respond. Don't take this, it's boring
Sara is awesome! Her expectations are very clear on the assignments and if you do the work...you'll do great. She does take longer than most teachers to give your grades back, but she is super helpful and gives good feedback. This was an interesting class, one of those that I learned from and enjoyed. (without killing me with boring homework)
Took pop culture. Boring class. Really, really boring. Alot of busy work. Sara is an okay teach er but the class itself is miserably boring.
Boring 2 credit class. Her syllabus and directions are outdated. She replies back late and posts up grades late. The work load is way too much for a two credit class. She gives good feedback from time to time.
Terrible. Confusing. Most homework I've ever had to do in my life. Never answers questions you ask. So stressful.
did not reply to emails in a timely manor, seems like she checks and replies to emails 1 time a week. also her course had a large amonut of video watching. each assignment requires about 1 hour or more of movie clips. which in most cases i found to be unnecessary, especially because this turned out to be 4hrs+video per week. I DO NOT RECOMMEND
I took her Intro to Sociology class online and I found her to be a great teacher. She was always very quick to respond to emails and questions, seems to grade fairly and offered extra credit to everyone who wanted to participate. She is funny and easy to talk to if you have issues, or just need to clarify.
She is very rude. She does not communicate well with students. She has too high of standards and does not them for herself, just the students. She has zero understanding of personal life and balancing other classes. WAY TOO MUCH HOMEWORK! And a group project IN AN ONLINE CLASS, how does that make ANY sense? She is a terrible teacher.
I took her Intro class last summer, liked her so much I followed her to Soc 101. Yes, there is a lot of work but it is doable if you put forth the effort. Grades fairly, offers extra credit and is easy to talk to (VERY approachable!). Book was interesting, video clips were short (one or two were longer), and helpful PPTs. I recommend her classes!
Dr. Sara is a phenomenal instructor. She was very helpful and always encouraging. Although there is quite a bit of reading, it's really thought-provoking and fun. I'm surprised there's even one negative review about her. Wonderful teacher. Fun assignments too.
Dr. Sara is fantastic. Lots of work in the class, but very clear expectations and helpfulness. Possibly my favorite instructor ever.
Phenomenal teacher! She is so spunky and sweet, she makes the learning fun and easy. She expects critical thinking from her students but she, personally, engages in discussion. She prepares you for the assignments very well, never assigning anything that a student cant handle as long as they do the required reading. A+ TEACHER!
a lot of of stuff to read per week, so slow in grading, if you are a full time student you will barley have time for other classes, I don't recommend her.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Material is interesting and thought provoking. low stress, no test/quiz/finals and focuses on what is really important through papers and discussions. She did fall behind on grading but with this class you should be focusing on expressing your views respectively and effectively. The grade will come.
Instructor projects personal opinions onto students observations without any academic relevance, she is contradictory between her graded assignment tasks and subsequent communications, she is persnickety with her discussion comments and generally speaking she is very slow to grade. I do not recommend this Instructor.

Lots of film and book reflections, the content was very interesting to me so I really enjoyed taking this class. Make sure you follow syllabus and grading criteria to the T, so you do not miss any points. Participate in group discussions and you will pass with a good grade!
Dr. Sara is extremely helpful in all matters regarding her class, as well as just being there to chat. I asked for some more specific feedback regarding my assignments because this was my first college class and she was happy to help me out. As long as you do your work in depth and use LOTS of sources (which isn't hard) you'll do fine.
We watched lots of movies and read a lot, textbook was interesting as were the movies and extra books. Super fun and inspiring class.
This teacher does not even distinguish a 2 CREDIT CLASS should not have this huge amount of expectations and work. Assignments are horribly too much. She is not clear, not fair, not understanding, and the most importantly, she is not teaching AT ALL ! All she does is grading.
Lots of reading during the quarter, but the books read are very entertaining and pretty easy reads. There are about 1-2 papers due each week, but she doesn't grade them hard. Easy A.
She's great so respectful and communicates well with students. There is a ton of reading and quoting but it also teaches you so much about yourself and others.
For American culture I believed the work load was too much for a two credit course; it should be a 5 credit course. For sociology 101 although it is a 5 credit course, there was a heavy work load and the text was very large. She also grades too strictly. She was often rude and condescending. I would not recommend anyone to take this professor.
The class was organized well. You can work at your own pace, as long as you get everything in by the due date. Consists of 2 exams with short answer questions. Just make sure to be detailed and specific. Teacher was not too hard of a grader in this class, however I'm not sure about the other classes she teaches. Satisfied with this course overall.
Professor was unreasonable and extremely harsh in grading. I'm a decent writer but she would take off massive points for even the smallest mistake. She seems to dislike me for absolutely no reason and is extremely condescending. I would not recommend taking her classes, especially CES 102. You are only given 2 credits for a 5 credit work load.
She is clear, helpful, caring, and a fairly easy grader. Not many assignments, about 1 or sometimes 2 per week. You can tell she really cares, wants students to do well, and offers as much help as you will take.
She seems very kind but she's a tough grader. I'm not a poor student by any means. I have 100% in every class. Except hers. I'm giving it my all but it doesn't seem to be enough. Again id like to say this is NOT an attack on his personality, I'm just sad I can't seem to meet her expectations.
I thought Dr. S was a wonderful prof, the best online prof I've had. I worked hard to get my grade this quarter; however, all the effort was well worth it as I learned so much. There's a clear structure of discussion (1 post, 2 reply) & 2 pg paper/week. Towards the end, she gives you basically 3 free weeks to work on your final project. I got 100%
I consider myself an above average student, i currently hold a 3.5 gpa have taken 15 credit quarters since i started at bc. I don't find her mannerisms to be professional nor do i think she cares for her students. She will not let you redue any work and very strict on grading, giving me a zero. Absolutely the worse instructor I've ever had.
This professor's assignments are based off of lots of articles and movies/video's to watch. Professor also writes her own papers that she requires us to read. She grades down for the smallest of grammar mistakes.
I have taken multiple classes with Dr. Sutler-Cohen & each time I want to come back for more! Her class is based on discussion posts & weekly journal submissions but she's very understanding and will give you a deadline extension if you need it. Dr. Sutler-Cohen has furthered my interest in Sociology and each class I've taken with her has been fun.
Not good.
Unbearably picky about grammar. Has requirements she will not express until after the assignment is turned in and graded. Created her own arbitrary writing guidelines that are not always applicable. I find the way she speaks to students not only often insulting, but also very unhelpful. This is the one professor I recommend everyone avoid.
Professor fancies herself a 'serious writer' so you have to read her so-so articles. Laser-focused on your grammar. She is also a Sherman Alexi fangirl who needs to round out her experience with other First Nation writers to provide a broader picture of the modern Native experience. The movie selections were good. Disappointed with this professor.
for, I did not enjoy the class as much as I thought I would. one of the major things that I disliked about this professor is that I have submitted all of the assignments but at the time of writing this I did get permission to reduce some of my assignments to possible get a higher grade in the class
I enjoyed her class. I was interested by the subject matter, and although I enrolled in a late start class, the work load was not as heavy as expected. I see a lot of people complaining about her forcing people to read her own writing for the course, but I haven't seen that (unless they're referring to the module PPT's). Overall very fun class.
This class was one of the worst I have taken in my 3 years at BC. As a 101 class, my expectations were low but this professor makes it as difficult as she can. Don't expect that you can share your own opinion, she has her opinion and expects you to agree with it. I have B's in my 300-level classes, this is the one I had trouble with, just saying.
She grades off of 3 assignments that seems easy but are not. 8 Discussion posts (40 points), 4 Critical reflections (100) points, and 3 research increments (50 points) 2 participation discussion (25 points), and 2 extra credits assignments opportunity and then a final that is worth 300 points. Very strict, allows 2 days grace period.
She is a tough grader. She accused me of using ai-generated content when I didn't. I didn't get the chance to meet with her about this. I still got partial credit on the final paper.
As a native student i am very disappointed with this course. I was told we would be talking about contemporary issues. Latest issue discussed? Alcatraz takeover 1969. Teacher knows what shes talking about but doesn't know how to describe at a level 100 class. Homework level was unbearable and final assignment was basically as master thesis paper.
Don't take this class if you don't want your social life to be over. She accused me for using AI generator when I didn't. I explained about it to her and she accepted it but threatened me that if this happens again she'll report me. So many papers to do and she makes it as difficult as possible. I usually have all A's but not this class.
three writing assignments per week around 500 words, exhausting class. professor was kind, it was an interesting subject. she is a harsh grader and assigns a lot of work. Personally, i would not take again because it was impossible to earn a passing grade in this class while attending other classes. i had to drop a class in order to pass this one.
Way too much work. On top of the work I put in I am getting marked down for being suspected of using AI but there's no way to defend myself from the type of accusation. If I am citing sources on the internet it is going to come back on AI detection software because uses online sources. Simply too much for the typical Social Justice regurgitation.
She refused outright to provide A.) Instructions. B.) A Rubric Pretty appalling the BC does no require Professors to meet a baseline of standard.
She runs her class authoritatively, “dictatorship” penalizing grades if you don't conform to her expectations. There's little room for freedom of expression, and she quickly accuses students of dominating discussions boards. If she disagrees with you, your grade will suffer. I strongly advise against taking her class.
Professor can be strict, but the workload is manageable. Leveraging study tools like Unstuckstudy helped me stay on top of things. Overall, a rewarding class if you put in the effort.
