Relatively easy prof, but you HAVE TO attend lectures as the slides are not nearly detailed enough. Easy to get an A, but I wrote everything she asked for on the exams and still couldn't crack the 90's. She also marks the essays fairly, though she requires the use of turnitin

Wow. Every prof should look at her and learn how to teach a class! She is soo nice and sweet that u enjoy every second u spend in her class. Got an A in her Interpersonal Violence Seminar class. She wants creativity and links to earlier course materials for each presentation. I got high 80's on everything except participation, which isn't hard to earn either. Consult her in office hours! Amazing! If you've taken her CRM 318 and 402 courses before, you're in great shape.

Hands down one of the best CRM profs that Ive had so far.Tests based on lecture&articles provided.Thoroughly talks about the lecture&articles you have to read.Tells you exactly what to focus on for each question.You need to attend every lecture.She can be a bit hard of a marker,questions are very broad so you have to have general idea of everything

Without a doubt, the BEST CRIMINOLOGY PROFESSOR AT RYERSON!She explains the material really well, her midterms and finals are all based on readings and lectures, with an emphasis on lecture material.(she wants to see that you attended her lectures and took notes).Great sense of humor and hot! Only bummer-10page essays, but they're marked fairly.

Sara Thompson is easily my favourite Criminology Prof at Ryerson. She makes class enjoyable and extremely interesting. Each class is a pleasure to go to. She is full of enthusiasm and makes each class entertaining. She has a good sense of humour too!

Thompson is n amazing prof. I love these people that complain about having to do the readings, THINK, and work hard in order to get a good grade. Thats what university is about. Thats what life is about. We are not in high school anymore. Profs like Thompson and Hudson have changed the way I see the world.

Such a great teacher. Funny but really smart as well. There's a lot of readings but they're pretty interesting, and if you do the readings you'll do really well on tests. She really knows her stuff and I'm glad I took this course.

Overall, I seriously love her. Best lectures I think I have ever been to. She keeps lectures short and sweet, usually only 2 hours. She is also so helpful in office hours. She gave a bunch of guidance on how to do well on my essay. Her exams are also so so easy as long as you attend class and know very very general ideas from the readings.

One of the best, if not the best criminology professor at Ryerson. Her lectures are inspiring and you will never get bored in her class. You really learn a lot because she is very knowledgeable. If you can take a class with her, do it!

It was truly a pleasure to have Sara as my professor for CRM601. Her lectures are amazing and fun to listen to. She will teach you concepts in a way that is easy to understand and follow. Her marking scheme is fair and clear for students. By putting in the rite effort, it's very easy to get an A in her course.

Professor Thompson is a great speaker she definitely knows how to engage her students in topics that are both interesting or boring. Unfortunately, I had her while she was working on a research topic of some sorts (I forgot what). That meant she wasn't really around to answer emails often because of how busy she was. Overall happy with her!

Participation is essential in order to perform well on the midterm and final. Hilarious, a good lecturer and an a unfair grader.

Paper, midterm and final exam. It's not really a lecture you attend its more of a group conversation. She's really relatable and passionate about what she teaches. She truly cares how everyone performs in class and asks how everyone would like the midterm to be formatted. Basically gives you the exact questions on the midterm and final

Couldn't possibly love her more as a professor. My favourite prof in 3 years of university. I've taken two of her classes and in lecture I feel like I'm just soaking up the information. Doesn't make you buy a textbook. Always ends her classes early. Super helpful and easy to get along with. I can't recommend her highly enough.

She's very fair in her grading as she provides you with everything necessary to succeed, even giving great hints for the exam that make studying much easier and less stressful. Definitely one of the best lecturers at Ryerson! Explains concepts well, and with actually funny jokes. Midterm and exam are easy if you do the readings and take notes. Everything she says will be on the exam will be there and nothing else. Is a tough marker on the essay- thought she was unfair and did not provide any feedback. Would take again!

She's really funny, her tests are a little hard midterm was harder. But she's fair and really helpful. She has a lot of her own experience that she brings to the course, which is always really helpful. Also very engaging and her lectures are always interesting. Dr. Thompson is one of the best professors at Ryerson. Her passion and background in policing and criminal justice in Canada are extremely valuable and clear in her teaching. She is a very fair grader, she is always wanting the best for her students so asking her for help before a test or assignment almost always bears fruits.

Thompson is amazing. This is the last class Im able to take with her before I graduate and it sucks that everything is online. Better than not having her at all.

I found her lectures really interesting, she is knowledgable and does a great job of getting the point across without overly complicating it. She's slightly a tough grader but it comes down to following her instructions and putting in the work yourself. She's more than willing to help out with any questions or concerns you may have which is helpful

She is a really nice professor but does mark slightly hard. Just make sure to read the assigned readings since the midterm and exam were mostly based off those. Her lectures were interesting.

Dr. Sara K. Thompson is the most considerate and genuine professor that I have had at Ryerson! Grading is very fair, watch the pre-recorded lecture and do the readings and you will be good for the take-home midterm, assignment and take-home final. She gives more than enough time to do it and is very considerate so don't hesitate to talk to her!

This was a fantastic class taught by an amazing professor. Her passion for the subject matter is obvious, as is her dedication to making sure we succeed. A few days before the paper was due, she responded to several of my emails on a weekend, which most professors will not do. I highly recommend her and this class.

Great class and professor. She knows her stuff, lecture always goes by fast because the material is so interesting. Strongly recommend if you are interested in urban violence.

Every week after class there is a huge line of people who want time with her. She let me bring my friend to class one week so he could see what a university lecture is like. When security wouldn't let him in because he didn't have a onecard she intervened and they let him in! Honestly can't say enough good things about her. Truly one of a kind.

She always makes sure we understand the course material and this term there was a reading that even she admitted was too hard and she made a document that told us what the most important parts of the article were so that we understood. She stays after class until everyone who waits to talk to her gets a chance even if its an hour later.

One of the best crim prof's at TMU. You can tell that she cares about she was does and is a great professor. Our physical class was in a theatre so it was kinda uncomfortable however she did her best to try and make sure that we were all paying attention. It sucks that she's taking a year off in my final year but honestly, take her if you can!

Took Violence and Communities with her through Chang. I found the course tough but I've been out of school for a while. Sara was wonderful and spent quite a bit of time with me on zoom to help me. I'd gladly take another of her courses.

I really enjoyed having her as a professor. She's so nice and her lectures are really interesting. Our class was on Fridays 2-5pm which sucked at first but I found that it didn't bother me at all after the second or third week because this class is so good. Recommend!

I took CRM318 with her in the fall of 2022 after hearing people rave about the class and the prof. They were right. Great class, amazing lectures, interesting readings, fair exams (all take home) and one 8 page paper. Super manageable workload. 10/10

I took this course online through the Chang school. She met with me on zoom a few times to help me with the paper. I am a mature student and it has been a while since I had to write an essay. I now feel more confident about university thanks to this class and her help.

I've taken several classes with Sarah and she is amazing! The material is interesting, the workload is reasonable, exams are all take homes, and her grading is fair. She told great stories and created a really great learning atmosphere that made me feel comfortable to open my mouth in class, which I usually don't do.

I took this class last year, but she left a major impression on me. Her lectures are a lot because there's a lot of information and she talks fast, but the material is clear and straight forward and she'll stay after class to speak with you if you have questions. Would take her again in a heartbeat.

I had her last year, but still think about this class. She does mental health check-ins and offers advice on how to balance school, work and life. Her lectures are sometimes dense but she's an amazing lecturer, very passionate and funny. Got my first A+ for a written assignment thanks to the writing workshop she had in class. Highly recommend.

Because of her I want to be a researcher. I am a bit ocd and my writing isn't the best she was so patient with me and met with me a bunch of times so I could hand in my best work. I learned so much and am sad because I've taken all her classes now so my last year won't have her in it.

She is the best prof I have ever taken at TMU. Do NOT hesitate to take her. My grade was my own fault as I was going through my own troubles but I still went to all of the classes because of her engaging lectures. You will not regret this class, she is a 1 of 1 prof seriously!!

Stellar prof. She always says that systems are made up of people including people who are working hard on the inside to make change. But she also encourages those of us who had bad experiences or don't wanna work inside systems to focus outside them. The non judgement which has not always been my experience in this program and i'm here for it.

Professor Thompson was great and incredibly understanding of life as a student. She talks a lot however she is really dedicated to what she teaches and being a professor that is accessible for students of all kinds. I would absolutely take a course taught by her again.

Dr. Thompson is a very considerate and knowledgable prof. I disagree with some of these concerns regarding her grading style being hard or unfair. As long as you reflect her lecture notes/content in ur exam answers, then you will likely do well. I'd make sure to attend her lectures weekly and ask for feedback on essay outline before you start.

She keeps you engaged during classes – very expressive and curses like a sailor (which always makes it fun). She's very accommodating; she gave us an extension and our midterm and final were take-homes. Only critique is she approaches the issues through a shallow lens. I also saw her bring Starbucks in one class (if you know, you know).

CRM 300 is the best Criminology class I've taken so far. Dr. Thompson is a phenomenal lecturer and keeps everyone engaged. She speaks fast and is very passionate about criminal justice reform, so it can be difficult to keep up with her at times. But she's brilliant, fair and she really cares about helping her students succeed. Highly recommend!

best prof ive had so far, genuinely cared and engaged with her students. She really does want you to do good and is available to meet whenever to help you reach high. also has clear grading and will explain in a detailed way how you can do better. Grading is based on 3 papers (around 8 pages each) but aren't too difficult. Love her!

I had her for violence & communities. She is very intelligent, approachable, and very kind. She is very clear with her points. Out of all the professors at TMU, she is defintely my #1. Assignments and tests were marked very fair.

Super kind and genuinely cares about us students. Her lectures made me want to change my major to criminology. Grading was really fair with helpful feedback and answer keys. If you're reading this Dr. Thompson, thank you for an amazing class!

Dr. Thompson is an AMAZING prof and human!!!! Tuesdays were my fav day because it meant a new lecture. The class was so interesting, the prof is hilarious and interesting and amazing and her research is fascinating. Tests were fair as is the grading. Love her.

I took 318 and 300 with her. Overall, both great courses and Thompson is a wonderful professor. The content is super interesting, her lectures are never boring and tests and assignments are fair (bonus: the mid term and final tests are take home). Make sure you attend class tho because tests cover lectures and assigned readings.

This was a great class with a really great professor. Incredible lectures, an in-class essay writing workshop and two take-home exams. Her expectations are clear, she gives lots of hints for the exams, and though this is not an easy course, if you make sure attend lecture and read the course readings, you'll do well. 11/10

Dr. Thompson's grad course on interpersonal violence is extraordinary. I actively participated in group discussions every week, unusual (for me) because of anxiety. This was because of the vibe she creates in the classroom. She is warm and engaging and funny and approachable. Outstanding prof and class!
