She made this class super entertaining and always had students laughing. If you have any questions, she is always willing to clarify. Her grading isn't too harsh, either. If you are absent, all you have to do is show proof of where you were and you can easily make up the missed assignment.
Very helpful and engaging. She is not strict and will work with you. She makes sure everyone is on the same page the whole way through and makes sure you are ready for the next level. I would recommend her.
She is really funny and relates to your generation. You must go to class if you want to pass. She will cut you if you miss too much. She is also very caring, She cares about her students and will do her best to help. Most essays are about 5-8 pages long (double-spaced).
I look forward to going to her class the most. If you are someone who enjoys writing, I really recommend taking her class. You have four major papers during the course, one of them being the final. She puts up assignments on canvas weeks ahead of time and really helps you understand what is expected of you. Great professor
Prof. Almond was very funny and kept your attention while in class. There was 4 papers 3 of them were 5-7 pages and the last one was 7-10 pages. The papers weren't difficult to write considering she encourages you add pictures (excellent space suckers). Also, make sure you show up to class, she does a great job of jogging your brain during class.
Prof Almond is one of the best teachers I've ever had. The classwork isn't hard and the papers she assigned weren't too challenging either. She is hilarious and keeps the class awake with the things she says. She's always eager to offer help. She's a easy grader, but showing up to class is mandatory and participating is key in this class.
Professor Almond is the best teacher I have ever had! She is caring and willing to work with you in order for you to be successful. The papers she assigns are easy, and the class work really helps you understand the format of the paper you and expected to write. She is extremely relatable and I would suggest for anyone taking ENC1102 to get her.
My favorite professor so far, by far!
She is a cool woman and a pretty cool teacher don't get me wrong. You have to be prepared to listen to long lectures and read A lot! I felt she was a little to opinionated in our topics of discussion and writing.
Took her for Spring B. She took a while to email back. Multiple assignments everyday. Didnt grade assignments till the semester was over. she had the wrong book in her syllabus. I would not take her a class of hers again.
It was difficult "getting" what she was saying whenever she would be teaching and trying to explain what she expected out of each paper. I had to practically self teach myself, the only good thing is if you send her your work before the due date she will correct and go over it to help you out. I do not recommend her. Glad I pulled out with a B+.
Professor Almond was a pretty tough grader, but if I had to I would probably take her again.
Lazy, loud and way TOO opinionated to be a teacher. Feel like I was graded due to not being a democratic supporter. Never replies to emails. Grades WAY too strictly, minus 20 points on a paper for missing a comma?! Waits until day of class to grade papers, offers no help. Talks down to you AVOID her! Needs to be looked at by faculty; needs fired!
I liked her style of lectures. Topics were quick paced and put in context for real world applications. She struck me as very opinionated, but it didn't seem to sway her grading (I got the vibe that I was never going to get the extra credit though). My only complaint is the long turn around time for Emails and Grades.
Good fair and interesting! A little slow on the return of grades but I can live with it. Classes were interesting. However, you better understand MLA style and how to put papers together or you are doomed. Good class if you like writing.
Great professor!!! Hope I can take her for ENC2. Very understanding if you communicate with her, Show up to class, and give it your all and you will pass!! Hilarious!!! Classroom topics were the BEST!! Keeps you entertained!!! :)
She was good. very slow on grading. I would always get marked for essays and the errors that I was making. Due to het being slow on grading, I couldn't read the feed back to make my future essays better because they'll never be graded till the end of the semester.
She took a long time to put it grades & wasn't very specific about what she wanted. she was VERY unorganized (messed up my attendance 3 times, told us the wrong due dates multiple times, put wrong assignments up). I would not want to have to take her again, her lectures weren't very helpful. Making an A wasn't too difficult, not a very hard grader
Best professor ever. She can be tough on you but she only does it because she does care. I took her 8 am class and it was still amazing.
Professor Almond is amazing. Skipping class is not an option. Willing to help if you ask for it. Would definitely take again.
Professor Almond was great! I took a mini semester of 6 weeks with her which was a little challenging with all of the papers, but is ultimately a good class. As long as you take note of how to write, its an easy A. She's also hilarious! I loved her humor
She was the best English I've ever had, she makes you write on interesting things and her topics are very flexible so that you can write about what you like. Little class work and she actually cares about you passing the class. Would recommend all the way.
I took her for a mini semester at 8 am. She is funny and sassy. She is a very easy grader. Just do what she tells you to do and you will get a good grade. It is very important to actually go to class. We had assignments due during the class period a lot of times. They were easy. So just show up, do the work and you will pass. Highly recommend
Professor Almond is just wonderful!! She is fun and really enjoys teaching! I would take her class again in a heartbeat.
Great professor, she is a tough grader, but if you show up to class she will make sure you do better next time, a few of online work but overall it was an easy class.
Not a great professor. Must have had an abortion because I wrote a paper against it and ended up with 89.8 deliberately.
For the most part, she lets you write about what your interested in, or at least gives you options to choose from. A freedom I believe is important in a writing class. As long as you do all the writing assignments (classwork doesn't matter as much) and don't miss any (like I did) you should get an A.
This is a pretty easy English class, with only 3 major papers. She is an easy grader, but she doesn't leave any feedback on papers and takes a while to get them back to you. She is hilarious, so that makes it easier to show up to such an early class.
Professor Almond is an amazing English teacher. She really tries to help you understand different types of writing and how to best approach and write each paper. English is not my strong suit, but she is super helpful and gives great lectures. She gets right to the point and does not drag everything on forever. I would recommend taking her for sure
Professor Almond was an amazing professor! She is so funny and makes class very interesting. I was always excited to go to her class. She gives you a lot of freedom when it comes to writing papers. No in-class tests or quizzes. Paper length isn't crazy either. Only 2 or 3 online grammar quizzes. I will be taking her for ENC1102, highly recommend!
Professor Almond is a unique character. She is a nice person. However, she isn't the greatest teacher. You are graded on a few essays (worth 75% of your grade). She doesn't clearly explain what she wants. So when it comes to writing an essay, you are pretty lost. Lectures do not correlate with the essays and she does not answer questions well.
She not only makes the class interesting with her fun personality but gives amazing lectures. The assignments are straightforward if you show up to class. Definitely one of the best professors at Santa Fe!
Very easy class if you just follow all her instructions for each paper. She gives assignments based on the type of essay you will write that week. Attendance is a grade so if you show up to every class, thats an easy grade. She is very good at making sure you understand the type of essay you will write. 10/10 recommend.
She's funny, or tries her best to be. She grades attendance, she's rather vague in lecture, and often, the papers don't have much to do with said lecture. You'll get a few essays per semester, but when 75% of your grade teeters on what comes down to her opinion- if she doesn't like you, she'll really let you know
Easy A, Professor Almond is very caring and work with her isn't too intense. You only have about four papers the entire semester, one for each style of writing she teaches. She is very good at explaining things and genuinely wants you to succeed. I would take her again!
This is the second semester I take Professor almond! She is great & always willing to help. Highly recommend her. Dont understand the people saying you get bad grades if she doesnt like you, put in the effort & you will see change.
She is an amazing professor. She is fun and even lets you out of class early when you finish the agenda for the day. She teaches great and is easy to reach. She's a great teacher and I'd recommend her to anyone.
Such a great professor. If you just follow her guidelines on how to put together an essay, you will do just fine. Just plan to go to every class to absorb as much as you can, because she gives great pointers in class. Material is not hard at all, no presentations either. She does cut people off when they ask what she calls a duh question.
Professor Almond is the best teacher you can take for ENC1101! I anticipated this class to be difficult but it was soo easy I ended with a 99%!! there is a lot of papers but she is very clear on what she wants & gives great feedback. shes easy to accommodate with & wants everyone to pass!! she grades attendance, so make sure to show up. take her!!
she's amazing !! she's always there for you if you have any questions. Honestly a few papers but for summer B it felt like 2 papers every week with grammar assignments but it wasn't hard. just don't forget the due dates and make sure you submitted your work !!
Amazing teacher very understanding with school and personal life
She was hilarious but she didnt grade anything it was finals week and she hadnt grade anything. I never knew what my grade was and made me really stressful
Easy grader but didn't know any of my grades until the semester was over. She is very understanding of absences. The class can get extremely boring and repetitive at times.
She was okay, I feel like I didn't really learn anything but just did what I needed to do to pass the class.
Professor Almond didn't grade the entire semester's papers till the day before grades were due! She doesn't give any feedback and will NOT help you develop as a writer. She didn't grade one of our major papers for the semester since she was so behind in grading. Do not take this professor. Her disorganization is super frustrating!
It is a writing class so of course, you have to write multiple papers during the semester but I personally had no problem with them. She goes over everything in class and even helps you outline your paper. Very nice lady and helpful whenever you don't understand something.
Shes nice and straight forward. Doesnt lecture forever, gives the info you need and lets you go after the assignment. Read the pages she assigns or youll be lost and she WILL sit in silence until someone gives an answer to her question. Theres only like 5 reading pages a week. Overall a great teacher.
Took this professor for ENC1102. She is awesome and makes class interesting. She is a tough grader Id say, but overall would recommend.
Amazing! Really nice, listens to questions, and responds with useful feedback. Made class participation comfortable and often fun. Accessible outside of class, and even a year after taking the class, she responds to emails quickly and shows she cares.
Professor Almond is a really great teacher, and it is clear she genuinely cares about her students. For me, the class was very direct and not difficult to pass. She can come off as intimidating at first, but is friendly when you have a question and participate in class. I will say that she enters grades pretty slowly compared to other teachers.
She's super nice and a good person. I looked forward to going to her class. Lots of innovative ways to learn basic writing styles. I improved my skills. I would love to be friends with her in real life; a genuinely cool person. She reads rough drafts and gives good feedback. The workload is more than manageable. The atmosphere is accepting.
She is very patient when students ask questions. She makes sure that her students are aware of what to do that week. She is very straightforward and and doesn't make you nervous by her homework and standards. Sometimes, she will make the class fun to lighten the mood and make it interesting. I recommend taking her class.
Professor Almond wasn't the greatest teacher I've ever had but she wasn't the worst either. She's a great English professor, her personality just threw me off a couple of times. She taught me a lot and I wouldn't be upset if I had her again. Overall, she's good at her job, so don't let her personality throw you off
I did not get a lot of my grades until the end of the semester, which was stressful. She gives good feedback, but by the time she gave it, it wasn't usually applicable because we had moved on to another topic. I mean no disrespect to Prof. Almond, she certainly is very knowledgable in the field of writing. The class just wasn't a good fit for me.
Awful professor, yet somehow even a worse person.
Bad person
A lot of in-class work, not much homework other than an essay every couple of weeks. Good teacher and a fun class to be in. Often cut us out of class early.
Professor Almond is honestly a great teacher I learned a lot from her class and she's very helpful. The most annoying thing is she takes an eternity to grade anything. She's not a heavy grader but its frustrating to be waiting forever for your grade. The work she assigns in class feels impossible sometimes too. She offers extra credit assignments!
She is excellent at teaching. Four essays and one presentation for the semester. All other work is done in class. My only complaint is she never entered 3/4 of my grade. I received my final grade the day after grades were due. Luckily got an A, but I could have been failing and had no idea.
Professor Almond was a great teacher, but she never graded anything. My final grade was put in, but I don't know how I ended up with that. Professor Almond is a great person and allows you to work in groups a majority of the time. I would highly recommend staying after class to talk with her. She gives great life and writing advice.
Professor Almond is overall a great professor; she gives descriptive instructions for your papers. There is a lot of writing and reading in this class.
Does not grade until the last week of classes. Homework is only classwork. Group projects!! Textbook is used in class and you read it and show her your diagnostic and she lets you leave class when you're done. She says if you email her like once a month and say you dont feel like coming to class she will let you. Super easy. Take her it will save u
Very mixed opinions. She can get snappy and impatient when students are having questions but overall gives advice and feedback. Waits until the absolute last minute to grade anything which can be very stressful. You will have to speak out loud to the class a couple times. And there will be group work. Shes a chill person that is decent at her job
Great Prof, but there was one assignment about diagnosing a patient that had NOTHING to do with the English class itself. If you want the answer, it should be Sjogren's Disease, but she made the entire final ride off of one assignment and if you got it wrong then you would have to take the final. In no way is she a medical professional.
Professor Almond is a great professor. She explains things in a clear and simple way. She does assign more than 2 papers but she instructs them in an easy manner. Attendance is mandatory but her class is enjoyable so it's not a hassle. One thing is she does grade late so make sure you're putting in the effort.
She is an amazing professor. If you attend all of her classes and pay attention, everything else is easy. She is not a tough grader and is very welcoming when you ask her questions.
She never writes any feedback. She is condescending to students asking honest questions. She will never answer emails and wants you to text her only. If you want a professor who shows you mutual respect, look elsewhere. If it's the only ENC1101 or 1102 available I'm sure their are worse professors. None that I know of though.
Although this class is gonna make you write papers pretty much like every other week, this class will definitely humble you. The professor is super nice and very understanding. She's really big on communication! She always says if you don't tell her she can't help you. Easy "A" just make sure you communicate and attend the class everyday.
If you want to get an easy A, this would be the class. She is an easy grader but waits till the last day of the semester to put most of the grades in. You will have to attend the classes because she gives in-class assignments that you don't want to miss. But overall a good teacher who knows the material and can teach it properly.
Extremely rude, and makes students feel weird for speaking up, by cutting them off. She also take so long to grade assignments, and left several things up the last second for you to have to email her about. Leaves class early, leaving several students in the room. Has due dates exactly at the end of class. Used AI on y assignments and got an A.
Tiny classroom where she will walk behind or up to your computer. Never shares slides/content in class. Her assignments are so convoluted and she doesn't explain them. Gets contentious with students just trying to pass her class. Grading is so late, it will honestly bug you. You'll have to email her several times. Can't talk to anybody in ur class.
Pretty easy class. Clear papers and assignments per week. However she's kind of super rude and makes belittles students for trying to speak up. Easy to get an A if you just do the assignments. Will give you feedback until you get it right.
There is a HUGE lack of communication especially with it being an online class. She'll ignore emails and then proceed to put grades in. She was decent other than that, no one in the class felt that they learned anything but it's an easy english credit
Ms. Almond was a great English teacher for me. While she is kind of snappy or can come off as rude, she really just wants you to do well. Try to answer her questions in class because it will help you remember certain things. She allows you to text her which is really nice if you want help when writing. A total of 4 big essays which was alright.
Her class is “easy” the problem is she never grades in time so you cant ever re make or makeup for something you probably did wrong. She never answers emails soon enough. She will say “its okay send the work through my email” and never grades it When the storm happened gave me a zero for it and i lost electricity. She is non understanding.
Easy credit, but don't expect your assignments to be graded in a timely manner. Feedback also leaves quite a bit to be desired. I can't speak for how this course/ professor Almond is in person but as far as online goes... meh.
I don't get the negative reviews on the professor waiting for an answer in class. Participating in class is what helps you remember certain concepts for the essays. Very easy grader and even bumped up my grade in the class in the end. Even offers fun extra credit that can add +10 percentage points per essay. 4 stars tho cus takes forever to grade.
While this class is difficult, the skills you learn from the immense amount of writing you do is valuable. Overall, I appreciate that I took this class but the papers can be difficult and Prof. Almond is a tough grader on class work+papers.
DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I can confidently say this is the worst professor I've ever had. Grading is painfully slow. I wasn't sure what my grade was until the last minute. The class itself was not hard, 4 essays and classwork. Assignment instructions weren't always clear and don't ask questions unless you want to be belittled.
This professor will make you cry yourself to sleep every night.
Be ready to be humiliated if you take this class. JUST DONT. sooo so rude.
Very odd individual. Just do the assigned work and get it over with. She goes on tangents about how she doesn't care about what others think of her, and also thinks she gets manipulated and used by every student. If you can find a better-rated professor, stick to that, but if this is all that is left, she's not horrible.
Looking back after finishing Santa Fe this spring, I can comfortably say Sarah Almond was the worst professor I ever had. Her grading is erratic at best, her instructions are awful, and, quite frankly, she is incredibly condescending and impossible to approach. BAD PROFESSOR AVOID
don't take
Easy class but she takes a long time to grade but is an easy grader
Professor Almond was the worst professor I ever had. She took forever to grade things, once she graded things it was at the end of the semester, which caused many of the grades to plummet. She was rude and if she thought a question was dumb she would make sure to embarrass us. She would also show up late almost every day, causing less class time.
Terrible teacher. Always late, rude, and unprofessional. Grades never come, feedback is nonexistent, and it's too late to fix anything. Communicates, but it's all unhelpful. Wastes your time and can tank your grade. only take as a LAST RESORT
Professor Almond is honestly not bad at all. She does take a long time to grade assignments. 4 total papers and not much work.
