Dr. Alvanipour is a young professor who is very nice and takes it easy on students because she graduated not so long ago.
very easy and nice
be prepared to study on your own and try to determine what is really going to be on a test!!!
makes the class interesting
This professor does not like to give reviews, extra credit, or curves.
Expects you to learn most on your own, provides very few examples, no reviews, and takes her time grading and returning work. Would not recommend her for an INTRO class!
Makes INTRO to CHEM harder that it should be, I'm retaking this class because I got a B on it at a university and I thought my professor was hard but THIS professor is crazy. NO HANDOUTS NO REVIEWS, a curve maybe but that is if everyone failed the TEST. Talks about herself way too much, EGOCENTRIC. SHE SUCKS
don't take this teacher 40% o got F's in her class. and only 13% made A's. WARNING!!! don't take her she will make your life unbearable.
I got a "B" in the class... which is about what I deserved. She says she doesn't use the book much, but I'd buy it if I were you. When I felt like the class was slipping away from me, she was more than happy to talk to me and go over sample problems with me. Not sure why she got such a low rating. She DOES talk about herself and tennis a lot!!!

she is very hard, she does not teach good at all she does not care about her student.she i will not recommend her to any one if you are un the first week hurry up and drop her class before it is too late and get some money back
If you need help, ask your questions right after class, and never wait till the last minute. She teaches by the book so read it thoroughly, and she's straightfoward. If you are not good at College Algebra, hold off on Chem 1411. Same goes if you can't quickly memorize a lot of information.
She is the most worthless teacher I have ever had. Avoid this teacher at all expenses. If you are reading this Sarah, please let students know how much you suck before you keep teaching.

Someone please tell me why she teaches? She makes chemistry the most difficult thing EVER. Her labs are worthless and boring as hell. She can care less about anyone but herself. She needs to go get a job in what she majored in cuz teaching is def. not her thing! DO NOT take her class!
This professor needs communication skills. She does not seem to be concerned about the students grasping the material. Her exams are difficult-questions are asked on material other than what was to be tested. I do not recommend this professor.
she is NOT bad. and she only seems mean if you have no sense of humor and arent sarcastic. if you are, shes funny. shes a very good teacher, and yes the tests are hard, but she gives curves, and post pones tests or labs if the majority of the class isnt ready.
Dr. A is a very smart professor; therefore she keeps her intelligence only to herself, meaning she does not know how to explain or put into practice. At the beggining of the semester it was kind of fun to participate & practice, but getting through the middle of the semester I was already fed up with her class & herself.

OMG..THE CLASS IS EASY! The only people who fail are those who never study, go, or sleep in class! She goes over EVERYTHING STEP BY STEP; it couldn't be any clearer. If you don't understand something e-mail her. People complain about needing extra credit eventhough she HANDS IT OUT in class...THEY JUST DONT SHOW UP TO GET IT! She a great teacher!!

Dont take her class, she doesn't like anybody. She got so much attitude and she talks about her all the time. This semester, she tried to be funny but it did not work.Dont take her class or u will regret or atleast u will be leaving a comment about her and will be trying to save other students to take her class. TRUST ME!!!!she sucks.
Alvanipour is a disgrace to all teachers!! She will make you hate chemistry. Her tests are hard and her labs are worthless. She talks way too much about herself (not much to talk about) & no one cares! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! WHY IS THIS WOMAN A TEACHER?? GO BACK TO PHARMACY, SARAH!
If you want to really understand CHEM Dr.A is the one to take! This is not high school CHEM, you will be able to succeed in all future CHEMs if you pass her class. She is fair and yes you have to study, but this class will transfer anywhere and you will pass the departmental final. She's hot and smart, which may intimidate some people; she's great!
Stay away, save your time, and money. worthless instructor, talks alot. Instead of writing first and explaining after, she just keeps talking and writing on white board, and you just copy whatever she writes.Period!! she does not really know how to teach.(Extremely tiring person)
Mrs. A great teacher, she teach very well, chemistry in general hard but if you study and do what she tell you to do you will get A for sure. If you have to take chem. you have to study. Be serious we are here to learn not to sit and play.
she is definately not a suitable chemistry teacher nor has the patience to teach. Not helpful and a waste of time & money....DONT TAKE HER PLEASEEEEEEE
she seemed clear at first, but she's extremly dramatic. when she helps you its very quick, not very helpfull, it usually left me as unclear about the question as i began. more than 3/4 of the class droped including myself. her test are extremly hardd, it felt whetever she taught in the lectures was useless.Oh did i forget to say test extremly hard
She is a good teacher, but you have to PUT FORTH THE EFFORT!! Lectures are clear and concise, and she makes herself available for questions and tutoring. Anyone who downrates her is probably butthurt because they actually had to work for their grade - stop whining!
She is useless don't take her save yourself the unneccessary drama, maybe if she would put as much enthusiasm in teaching as she does into stalking tennis players and tracking designer purses she would be a good teacher she made everything seem like it was simple when not and the test would kick or butts, she's just unprofessional don't take her
She's very helpful and offers 4 hour study sessions three to four days per week. She knows her stuff. ( Chemistry isn't easy no matter who teaches it. You're either gonna get it or you won't !!! ) Overall, she's extremely helpful and harmless. She has an easy going demeanor. Just ignore a few of the comments.
Dr. Alvanipour is truly one of the worst professors I have had. She is unfair and has a great deal of personal issues. She gets a kick out of seeing students suffer and has even mentioned getting revenge on them. I've never had a professor like this . I think it is a big plus to the school that she will not be there after this semester.
She is a very good teacher! She is always in tutoring and is very helpful! She wants you to pass and do well-make sure you take advantage of the one on one help. Tests are hard but if you study you should do good. She is sarcastic so if you dont like that-dont take her. I loved it!
she has a personal issue.she changed my life in a very sad way.I hate her.I dropped her class last term but when I was checking this site I saw her name and decided to write this.I hate her so much.
you wiil regret if you tahe her.she is useless and talk alot.she has attitude.it seems that students are her anemy.I 'm good at science but she is the worst teacher I have ever seen.Don't take her or you will extremely be regret.
If HCCS knows what is best for them, and in the interest of their students they will let go of this Dr.A to go and deal with her personality problem before she will ruin other people's life. she doesn't have the quality of a good teacher
She's a horrible teacher...she's smart and knows the subject but doesn't explain well. gives no curves. more than half of the class dropped...good luck
Ms. A is a very good teacher. She writes her notes very clear, and she is very clear as to what the student has to do to pass her class. She gives you practice problems, and she is happy to look over them. Sure sometimes she talk about other things, but who doesn't? Just buckle down, study hard, and you'll pass the class.
This woman is an absolute, bloody insult to education. Not ONLY does she not teach her subject poorly, she makes life difficult for the students. In fact she ON PURPOSE did not return my first exam and held us until AFTER the drop date so we couldn't leave her class. I took my F and I am reporting her. AVOID. THIS. TEACHER!
oh my god please dont waste your time . she is not a teaching material. she makes life and the subject hard or should i say impossible. If i was to hire her HELL NO she is crazzy full of herself and her materialistic stuff..she thinks everyone is smart in chemistry as she grew up with her dad being a chemist..so dont waste your time and money..
OMG is she still their teaching..what is hccs thinking to write a paycheck for nothing. all her students are dropping her and kicking her out of chemistry teaching material..that means we are paying that skinny woman for what??? we are here not to listen her crap.oh god delete her pleaseeee dont take her
By far the best chem teacher Ive had. To anyone who thinks they're going to get a good grade by only attending class don't bother. She explains everything very clearly and is always willing to help the student understand. YOU HAVE TO STUDY THOUGH. But by this point in your schooling if you're not studying... you're not going to pass your classes!
I loved this witty attractive woman. She really was cool. She helped out as much as possible. Made herself available for tuitoring. I really feel that she went above and beyond. I SUCKED AT CHEMISTRY! I got a C in her class while 2/3rds of the class dropped. I should have taken intro to chemistry rather then General. My fault...not hers. Loved her!
I have her for Gen. Bio 1 at St. Thomas. She is a great teacher. She uses clear analogies to help you grasp the material. She keeps the material relevant and fun. I hope she is here next semester.
Dr. Avanipour was a tough professor to survive. She will not spoon feed you nor will she just hand you a grade for showing up. Read the book, study the material, ask questions- you will not make it out of there with anything above an F if you go in expecting an easy ride. This is CHEMISTRY, not art.
This professor is very nice and helpful, but guys!!! chemistry is not easy class and you should know that. Professors like her make you read your books and learn (as we are supposed to), i still taking her and i still dont k now my grade yet but i will tell u something, whatever grade i get, i surely deserve it, coz as a student, im here to learn.
I took her class in 2006, I remember that there were 30 students at the beginning of the semester only 10 of us made it to the final. This was the last class I had to complete to get into a program. I am not sure how I pulled off an A in her class. I do remember I put in a lot of time and went to tutoring alot sometimes she was the tutorer.
she is the best teacher i had. not only was she clear but helpful. for the ones who say she is hard, those are the ones who dont study. she helped me so much. she wants us to pass not fail. just read the book and study and you will pass with no problem.
she is pretty good. i took chem 1411 and 1412 with her,i got both books. i can sell you for less prize. let me know here and leave your cell no
This professor knows her stuff. She's gotta funky personality that's hard to sleep thru. This isn't a slack-off class--you earn your grade. She follows her schedule so you know the chapters you'll cover. She allowed me to drop and invited me to show to class so that when I do take it again I'll be ahead! I've NEVER heard of a teacher allowing this!
I think she's great, don't get me wrong, she is hard but you will learn. She helps you along the way and always clarifies if you don't understand.
This stuff is hard, so you NEED to study! She has great notes that she already typed up, all you have to do is take notes from what she has alrady done for you.STUDY STUDY STUDY!!!
Beware! Summer session goes really fast! Chem is not an easy subject, but she makes it really clear. HW was helpful, not unnecessary. Very willing to help, but your grade is your grade. She's not giving anything out, so study! She can go off on an unrelated tangent if allowed, but it's her personality that keeps the class from being a total bore.
I Don't know abt regular class but online, she is the best.Very willing to help and will not kill you with home work like EWANE Emmanuel.I had to write 2 papers for chemistry in EWANE class, so if i have to do it again.I will pick her.
she is good person. she has useful notes for student but u have 2 study hard. easy labs. exams are a little hard. I got an A.
Wow this lady is a handful..she is super smart, and knows her chem but she talks really fast and its hard to keep up, her reviews are nothing like her test YOU CAN NOT MISS CLASS!She's not a bad teacher, you just really have to focus, if you don't like science don't taker her!
Dr.A is the WORST teacher ever! She came to class 10 times in 6 months and those times were useless as well! WHY IS SHE EVEN A TEACHER?!!
She is wonderfully helpful and an excellent teacher. She isn't a "weeder" at all. She dedicates the class to your learning and will make sure that your grade reflects it. Possibly the best teacher I've had at HCC. She is rather impersonal though.
She's really nice and helpful and her class was fun. I did an online chemistry class (only had to show up a few times to do lab) The subject is hard so you HAVE to study, can't really blame her for what you get..if the class does bad on a test she curves, and she reallly knows her stuff. She's a good teacher but you have to be willing to study.
took this professor cuz of d previous comments.... got to class and it was like hell... she is very smart and knows what shez talkn about, but honestly at d end of d class u r gonna leave more confused than u came in.. i got an A in her class but it was with help from tutors...
she is a nice prof..i took it online and made an easy A..
Ms. Alvanipour is a fantastic teacher! She is very interested in helping you succeed and is very willing to answer questions.
Dr. Alvanipour is a fantastic teacher. BUT! she speaks really quickly, so you better be awake for her class. (awake and focussed at that!) This is not a class for slackers or people who want easy As. But she will always help you when you need it.
If you plan on moving to a University your best bet is to pick her and ace her class. She used to tutor at UT, and she was very good at it. Needless to say she is the only professor worth anything at the HCC campus for science/medical fields. Study the concepts of the reviews since the exams are often harder.
very very very helpful. talks fast. changes her tone every now and then (keeps me awake). always there to help or tutor. verry very smart...knows what she's doing. her exams are not hard if you do the practice exam at home. the exam is basically the same as the practice exam, just different numbers. Homework is out of the book, and not hard.
She's very very helpful! not many science instructors are nice AND speak good english, so she's probably your best bet in chem! she's funny too. review is a lot like the test. lowest test replaced by final. very lenient about lab reports (won't make you turn in the useless stuff.) I definitely recommend.
Took chemistry II before so I had some prior knowledge. This professor was super hard. Test were not like the review more theory based than problem solving. Would not recommend at all! Take if you want to drop!!
Worst Teacher ever, her reviews are nothing like her test.
NOT an Easy A, Even with working hard I got a B.
She is great. Wish I would have taken her class sooner. Not only is she completely hot, but she is smart too. Her test reviews are a lot like her exam. Memorize the information on the powerpoints and know how to work the test review and you will have an A. You do not have to read the book, just know the powerpoints!
please do NOT take her. Hard to understand as she talks really fast. Exams are hard and she grade exactly what you have even if al the class are C. I got B although I worked hard and went to tutor all the semester.
She really knows her chemistry. She also does go a little too fast during lecture time. DON'T BE A SLACKER IN HER CLASS. Study the notes she gives out & DO THE HOMEWORK! It will help you out! The homework is in the book, so you will need it. She is somewhat sarcastic but a lovely lady. Oh, she knows how to dress up. Love her fashion. :)
All the comments are true. She talks really fast and her lecture just based on the power point. If you're not good at Chem, stay away from her.
If you want/need A in Chem stay away, you r not going to get it, no matter how hard you work, lots of H.W but only %2of total grades. Laps hard hard work, her power point looks clear easy to understood, but exam no one can apply anything very hard. Nice lady but exams are far far away from her explanation.
great
She is smart and knows her stuff. However, this is not an easy A or B. You will have to work hard for an A or B. But she goes out of her way to help you pass. She even puts videos on youtube explaining material. She gives great reviews for test. But She talks fast and a lot and makes things overly confusing sometimes. I got an A w/ help of a tutor.
She id great teacher all of us here could ask for. As long us you are ready to ask she is ready to help you too. Plus she use the final exam to replace your lower exam result. So helpfull
Would not advise to take this class you do not learn anything and it is very difficult when it should not be
This was a Hybrid class so the lecture was online but we still had to meet face to face for the lab. She provided notes on her own website which were all I used to study, so I was essentially teaching myself. I thought the course was pretty easy but I could see how it would be difficult to somebody without a strong science and math background.
She is really cool and understanding. She let's you know what is expected of you from the beginning, and she will treat like an adult. She really likes to abide by the rules, but the rules aren't hard to follow. Do your work, ask questions, and attend class. She definitely loves her work, and understands her subject.
She has high energy in discussions, which can be intimidating, but her Youtube lectures soften some of her sharp edges, and she really took the time to explain the subject. You can tell she has her students' interests at heart. It's a crime that she did not get the chili pepper she deserves, due to posts from some of the less well-prepared students
Exams were straightforward and followed powerpoint lectures closely, did not need to read the book. The few trickier/ more detailed questions that were on current exams, were also provided on old exams. She is quite friendly and helpful if you exert effort to e-mail or stop by to ask questions.
Took this over the 5 week summer session, so class was very fast paced. The material was somewhat difficult, but she does a great job at explaining. Be sure to ask questions. The tests were challenging, but doable if you studied for them. She's a very caring teacher and does want you to succeed. She is also, very attractive, which doesn't hurt ;)
She is a great teacher. After 10 years of a break from studying, she was the professor I got. She answers any difficulties and gives review exams 2-5 days before tests. Be regular in her class, read her notes and do the homework. That will ensure an easy A.
Took her for the summer session. Great teacher. Funny and clear- will keep you awake! Like another reviewer mentioned, she gives the students time to ask any questions over homework or review exams the day before the exam to clear up any problems. Do your HW & do the review exams (both not required but will help a lot) study hard- you will pass!
Great Prof! Took her for my first 5 week summer.
I took her hybrid chem 1412 class over the summer. If you are an independent learner the online class is great! We meet twice a week for lab, and she answers any questions you have. She's very energetic, and helpful. Her tests are not easy by any means, but if you study hard you'll be fine.
She is very clear, even for the online course. You always know exactly what is on the agenda and what your grade is based on. She's accessible and while I didn't feel the need to take advantage, it seemed she was very open to spending extra time helping students before and after class. I'd enroll with her again. Don't miss labs!
Dr. Alvanipour is awesome, very willing to help. Straight forward about expectations, tons to memorize. Tests aren't hard unless you didn't bother to do optional homework. Don't miss class and don't wait until the end of the semester to ask for help. If you're not a science geek, take the in person class.
I took her 1411 hybrid class. She takes difficult subject matter and makes it very easy to understand. She is willing to stay after class/meet with students as many times as they want and will never make you feel like you are taking too much of her time. Offers extra credit for tests. Has test reviews. tests are hard due to subject matter, but fair
She is one of the best chem professor i have ever had. She is inspiring, knowledgeable, and extremely smart. Moreover, she is inspiring and I really learned in her class
would never take her again!!!!!!
Her explanations are so confused, she knows alot but doesn't know how to transfer that to her student. It more looks like she teaches herself.
Only take her if you know Chemistry! She is an instructor not a teacher. A teacher will take the weakest student and make them understand. She wont even explain things easier for kids who speak her language and may struggle with English. Big Ego! On the positive side she is organized and she tests over what you are assigned from homework.
I LOVED this class. She is a great instructor and communicates clearly what is expected of you as a student and what to expect from her. If you don't get a concept, she will reword and use examples for help. Her tests are hard only due to the subject matter, but if you study and attend class, she gives you everything you need to succeed.
Do not take her if you are not good in chemistry. She will not explain alot of things. Exams are so difficult. The only thing i like about her is that she is really nice and fair to all her students...
the subject is difficult but she will explain everything thing and wants to make sure u understand. Always helps her students when they ask questions. Very respectful to her students. Fair in grading . Giving u extra credits for doing your HW wich helps alotttt.
She gave me C. She Just reads off from powerpoint. Powerpoints are heavy. She does not know most of the stuff that are in the book. Tests are difficult. Too much homework. Do not take her and ruin your GPA.
Do not take her if u really want to learn something...I had to drop her class bc she didn't know how to explain when i was asking her a question. She makes u more confuse by explaining something totally different than what u asked. She doesn't have enough experience teaching ... Not fair in grading...
She''s great! Awesome instructor and lecturer who knows how to effectively teach the subject of Chemistry. She's also so sweet and nice and is willing to help you if you have any questions or trouble understanding any of the material. Take her if her class is open!
I took her class for both CHEM 1411&1412. She is very straight forward in what she expects from her students. CHEM isn't an easy subject but she takes effort into explaining things clearly to make it simple and easier to grasp on. If you don't understand something, she will sit down with you and explain it to you until you do. I highly recommend.
Dr. Alvanipour actually made this class so much fun, from cracking jokes when explaining the labs to showing cool things like different color flames. She was encouraging and helps you because chemistry is hard and this was an intro class. She emails you back too if you need something and cares that you actually learn too.
I was nervous about Chem because it isn't the easiest/most fun class, but Dr. Alvanipour was wonderful! She really took the time to explain everything to us and I learned so much in 8 weeks. If you study the chapters and materials she provides, you can really succeed in this course. I would definitely take her again for other Chem classes.
Nice professor who is truly caring when it comes to you understanding Chemistry. She lectures and explains things very thoroughly to make it easy for you to do labs. Highly recommend.
She is a very smart lady! Her intelligence is shown through how she teaches Chemistry and she knows how to do it well. Dr. Alvanipour very approachable and is there if you need her assistance on anything you are having trouble with. Excellent professor.
She is quite literally one of the best profs when it comes to Chemistry. You WILL learn! She is straightforward with what she wants you to learn. She makes it too easy for everyone to take advantage of the resources she has there for her students. HW (optional) is Xtra-credit on exams. Labs with her are way easy and short! Her tests are fair.
It was not the easiest subject for me but she was very good at explaining anything you did not understand as long as you ask her. She gives extra credit on exams for doing the homework. I took the hybrid version of the class which I thought would be hard but I ended up loving it! Whoever said she was not good was probably looking for an easy A.
STAT AWAY FROM HER! Too much homework !Tests are sooooo difficult ! Homework are so easy compare to the tests!!! no extra points!!!! Her teaching is awful, she doesn't explain anything, just reads off from powerpoint. Every time we asked her a question, she got confused and told us to ask her again next time.
She is a very knowledgeable and nice prof, but her teaching style is a bit advanced. She went to Harvard and really knows her stuff, but she gets it across in a way where she assumes youre already familiar with the topic. I found her class to be very difficult and theres not any grades besides tests and quizzes. 5 bonus points on test for doing hw.
I really like Dr Alvanipour as a person but did not enjoy her class at all. I feel like you have to already know your chemistry pretty well. There's a lot to cover and she moves through it very quickly, and I think she tries to give time for questions, etc. but there's so much material that you really have to spend time after class for questions.
I wish she would just make it clear from the start of the class that the book is obsolete and all her exams are based on her website, which is actually a good site and helped me learn. Other than that, no complaints. Pretty decent overall. It'd be an easy A if you just study the modules.
I can't say a negative thing about Dr. Alvanipour. She has been a fantastic professor. Yes, Chemistry is hard, and there is really no making it easy. She provides you with all of the information you could need. I think the big struggle is TIME. Give yourself enough of it! Do the Homework!
Dr. Alvanipour was a great chemistry professor and always does her best to help you learn! I took notes off of her website and studied her reviews and did really well on her exams. Having taken her summer hybrid course I thought it was going to be difficult, but as long as you put the work, you should be able to get an A!
No assignments throughout the semester to work on or review for tests. Everything is strictly on her Chem site.
Dr. Alvanipour is the BEST science professor I've ever had so far. Not only does she patiently guide students to obtain success in CHEM, but she also gives weak students strength to tackle the course. She is the professor who is always there to help you as long as you let her. She is the best!!!!
Dr. Alvanipour is an awesome professor to take for the two general chem classes. She shares most of the learning materials online, and you can look over them before coming class. The exams are fair as long as you study the notes well and practice using her assigned hw and practice exam. If you have questions, she will definitely have them answered.
Do not take her class if you still want to keep up your GPA. She required webcam during tests and those tests were difficult; reviews does not help you at all.
Worst professor ever!!!! I have taken way harder classes at UH such as chemistry 1, and I failed this class horribly. Im not sure why others are giving her a good rating. DO NOT TAKE!!! The class average for exams were 50s and she did not curve. STAY AWAY!!!!
Do Not take her unless you are good at chem. To be honest, she explains very well and she gives the review for each exam which is exam reviews are pretty much useless especially for exam 3. every morning before lab will be a quiz. there are extra credits which are the HW in the textbook. our class average was 52 and still, she didnt curve grade.
Dr. Alvanipour is an amazing professor. She has a lot of passion for chemistry and quickly got back to me when I misunderstood something we were studying. The first two units I read the textbook, but you dont have to. Her notes that she posts are clear and concise, and honestly I got lost when I read the textbook. She also gives extra credit.
Professor Alvanipour was a very good professor. She certainly knows how to assist students without giving away the answers. Whenever you go to her labs, she usually has some time where she will express her opinion on a certain topic which is certainly entertaining. I would highly recommend her for Chemistry 2.
Require a Web-Cam is a no no for me.
She is not a good professor at all. Stay away. You will have to come in that class knowing Chemistry, otherwise it will be very hard, her reviews suck. Avoid at all cost. Never take her for online Chem! Believe me! She is awful!
With her, she gives you summaries of each material yet doesn't dive deep with you on it. This was an online class which did make it tricker, the exams really do make or break your grade. The bonuses don't help as much as it should. I would stay away if you want to end up teaching yourself chemistry or asking for more work to bring up your grade.
Took professor Alvanipour for Fall 2020 (covid times). Course requires LOTS of study and practice. She goes over the material fast, ASK QUESTIONS. She provides lecture, pdfs and videos recorded by her USE THEM, they're helpful(I never used the book). Gives extra credit. Exams are hard; reviews for each test are similar, but not it. She's great
Please stay away from this professor, she don't care about her student. Her exams and test are difficult. She spent most of the time vesting her anger on her student. she would have been one of the best professor in Chemistry if she has the right mindset.
Warning! Stay away from her!!! The grade is made up of 4 exams and 8 lab reports, while the exam is very hard the average point is 40! If you don't come to this class with knowing everything about chemistry you would probably fail.
Do all the practice problems at the end of each chapter and all her practice tests. If you run into problems email her AND look up Melissa Maribel or the Organic Chemistry Tutor on YouTube for help.
I took this course during the summer and it went very smoothly. Despite it being only 5ish weeks, it was not overly challenging; one test and one homework per week, she gave bonuses (which don't do much grade-wise but are still good practice.) She also offered to do review sessions and she communicates well with her students.
Dr. Alvanipour was my favorite chemistry teacher. Her lessons are extremely thorough and easy to understand. I loved her hybrid class as I could go over her detailed lesson videos and notes on my own, and use time in class to ask clarifying questions. If you enjoy actually learning material and from someone competent, I highly recommend her class.
Follow her lectures, write down notes, and do your part! (study, study)
This "professor" is too nitpicky. Sharmuta wants us to use a MIRROR for an online exam that is ALREADY RECORDED. She is very paranoid.
Does not care about her students, just focused on doing the minimal effort.
Attend the lectures, take notes, and use Unstuck ai for extra chemistry support. The tests are challenging, but the professor provides bonuses to help boost grades. Overall, a manageable class with a caring instructor.
I took Chem 1311 over the fall semester. I had never taken a chemistry class—not even high school chem— and did good in the class. Dr Sarah is not your typical professor from HCC. In fact, I don't think she belongs at HCC compared to the other non-caring professors. She would answer all of my questions in a timely manner both in and outside class.
Dr.Alvanipour was a great professor, had a practice exam before each test, and a video for each. She wouldn't mind if you stayed after class to ask questions and she did her best to explain things. She also had a handful of extra credit opportunities. She also has her own website with all the topics covered and videos. She is a wonderful professor.
Your whole grade is pretty much made up of 3 test and a final. The test problems are harder than what she goes over during the lectures and the reviews don't help much.
As a person she's alright, as a professor not so much. She is a narcissist, and I felt like the whole time she was just trying to show off her website, the website barley had any information to actually help you, if you don't study outside of class you won't pass.
nothing but a narcissist who acts like she's teaching harvard. my extra credit didnt submitted because of a web issue and that extra 5 points could've gotten me a B, she refused to help me out even tho I paid 600 for her class alone she has questions on her test that she admits are worded wrong but doesnt fix them I wish nothing good comes to her
Dr. Alvanipour is the Honda of chem profs: reliable, efficient, no-b*llsh*t. Her summer course is organized and well thought out. She gives you ALL the tools to succeed (practice exams, videos, notes, recorded lectures). Encourages office hours. Speaks super clear (no accent!). Answers all your questions. Funny and supportive. Overall solid prof!
literally take anybody else she is so out of touch with reality and doesn't think anybody in her class deserves to succeed. all the good reviews are old but right now, she lost her mind. I believe she used to be a good professor but now you can tell she doesn't like hcc and doesn't want to teach here.
Very clear with due dates and instructions for exams. She provides a lot of resources to help students, such as multiple videos and suggested practice problems. Make sure you take advantage of those resources since they're rather useful. She is pretty communicative as well and will respond to emails in due time.
We once spent 40 minutes in class listening to her accuse all of her classes of rampant cheating. Mind you, the testing criteria for this class is very rigorous (camera + mirror) Exams seem to be mostly obscure concepts barely touched in class. She frequently finds reasons to invalidate tests or give lower grades than what you earned on exams
Professor Alvanipour gives good lectures, clear feedbacks, many examples for each concept, practice exams with answers for all exams. Clear, short and simple instructions all throughout the course, which does help with handling the course.
