She's not bad.. she gives you the slides and all but she isn't that detailed. She doesn't really use the textbook, just some parts of it which is confusing. A bit annoyed if you ask her questions about the exam and the study guide. Called a girl out for asking a question and asked her if she really came to class... yikes... she seems a bit nice? ha
Nice professor, but very boring. Class wasn't too hard. She gives access to all the homework instantly, so you can do it all in the first week and never worry about it. Going to lecture is pointless since all PowerPoints are online. Also gives a good amount of extra credit, if you want it. Tests are kind of specific, but not a problem if you study.
She gives you all study materials through Canvas, but showing up is not mandatory since she only reads the slides she posts online. She gives a textbook pdf but it's not needed to pass the class. Read the slides and you'll pass. You only have to do 6 discussion forum questions, 3 out of 5 homework assignments and anything extra completed is EC.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Her lectures are 30+ slides long, reads word for word from slides, the links barely work or are relevant, instead of individually responding she will just make an announcement literally blasting you on what you asked, exams do not have clear study guides and if you ask she will just tell you look at canvas.
Took her for General Psychology. Just reads off the slides in class. You need to look over her slides before the midterms and final. I recommend taking her class if you have prior knowledge, it's an easy credit. Homework isn't too hard and you don't have to do all of them. She has a lot of extra credit opportunities. Don't expect to learn anything
says she offers extra credit throughout semester and didn't offer any. 3 midterm exams worth 20% each and doesn't drop any.. doesn't give you any help for review or anything.. slides are super long and don't help to study from. cumulative final and didn't have a review session or give a review sheet.. makes this class difficult for no reason.
Always read from slides. Says there is extra credit but barely gave 5 extra points for loads of extra hw. Lectures are pointless. Doesn't reply to emails. Not helpful outside class. Barely any practice material for tests. Really arrogant if you go to her for help. Includes a lot of neuropsych in her syllabus, way more than there should be.
While I appreciated Professor Carton's homework policy (have to do a certain amount of homeworks and discussion questions and the rest are optional/for extra credit), she gets the lower rating because of everything else. She is inaccessible outside of class if you try and email her and she focuses on neurology too much.
I did not show up to most of the lectures and I still ended with an A. You do have to study for the exams because they are a bit tricky but it's definitely doable and passable.
Prof Carton is okay. Going to lecture is not necessary as she just reads and rambles off of the slide, which is something you can do yourself since we're all in college. The only thing that makes up your grade are the exams, which is good if you're good at exams. Does give a sufficient amount of extra credit.
I think she was a new professor when I had her, so of course, she'd have her flaws. You do not have to read the textbook despite it being required. I passed by reviewing her lecture slides and study guides. Lecture is pretty boring though. Make sure to go to the lecture whenever there's an exam review. Study guides help for most of the exam.
I went to almost every lecture and it was pretty useless, she rambles and gets off topic. She posts the slides which are vague and consist mostly of pictures and diagrams. Exams aren't bad if you study, but it's a lot of self-teaching. The book is free and will help for exams but not necessary. She gives extra credit which is nice
The class was easy enough, she provides you with enough extra credit opportunities to end the class with an A even if you don't do so well on the exams. She did tend to get off topic during lectures sometimes, or lose her place if she'd hear students talking or packing up, but overall was pretty good.
Only had to do half the homeworks and half the discussion questions. Skipped class half the semester and then taught myself the information from her slides. She basically just reads directly off the slides anyway. Very nice and understanding, but probably could've succeed in the class even if she wasn't there.
The easiest psych classes I ever took. I hardly went to class and only really looked at the slides right before the exams and still got all A's. She also gives an extra credit opportunity. Overall, super easy and decently interesting.
I don't know why Professor Carton has any poor ratings! Attendance is nonmandatory, and the lectures are informative + easy to understand. She tries to give real life examples, and lectures are posted online too. As long as you study and complete assignments, you should do well. Only downside is that Carton is easily distracted by noise in the room
A very nice professor who unfortunately gets a lot of crap from students since she's one of the newer professors. Her grading criteria is clear and she gives plenty of extra credit opportunities so I don't understand why people say shes awful. Shes a reasonable person. Textbook not needed and slides cover 90% of exams. Minimal study guarantees an A
(REMOTE INSTRUCTION) Easiest class I've taken in my life. I took her asynchronous Intro to Psych class, and all you have to do is write a weekly discussion post. That's it. There's no word minimum, and you're graded just on completion. Plus there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit. She's very sweet and understanding as well.
I took this class online, and it's so easy you won't have any issues. Although she records her lectures, you don't even need to watch the recordings or take notes to get an A. Just make sure to read over the lectures and know what you're doing and you'll be fine. I've never taken psych before but she made this class super easy :)
Carton's introduction to psychology class was extremely easy. There was rarely any work, extra-credit opportunities, and the exams were open note and based off the lecture slides.
Professor Carton explains matter well through her lecture slides and gives minimal work. If you do the assignments and review her lecture slides before the midterm and final its really easy to receive an "A" for the course. Would recommend and take again!!
Very simple online class. Weekly discussion posts (not much effort just watch the fun/interesting short videos) and a few homework assignments throughout the semester. Straightforward exams.
Psych was one of the easiest classes I took, it was asynchronous. There were weekly discussion posts and you only need to do 10, the remaining 4 were extra credit. 3 homeworks, only need to do 2, the other is extra credit. Exams were easy. All in all, professor Carton wants all her students to pass. It is an easy A class. 100% recommend
Easiest Class you will ever take at Rutgers do not listen to any negative reviews. I did not open the textbook once the entire semester and finished with an A. There is plenty of extra credit which you wont need because half of your grade is essentially a free points from hw and 2 sentence discussion posts. Only 2 50q mc only no proctor for exam.
such a great teacher! Always there to help, so organized and lets you know what she wants from you.
By far one of the best professors at Rutgers. Her lectures are great and there are a few homework assignments along with weekly discussion board questions. She also offers an optional extra credit assignment. Take gen psychology with her if you can!
Pretty chill grader, simple weekly discussions/homework, very straightforward exams which decreases confusion, records voiced lectures which are pretty concise and shes very sweet.
This class was extremely easy. We watched a 20 minute video once a week and answered a discussion question about it- that's all. There are extra credit opportunities which is helpful for your GPA. Watching the recorded lectures was not necessary and the tests were really easy and straightforward.
Took her online general psychology class in the fall 2020 semester and it was an easy A. There was only one assignment a week aside from watching the lectures and the exams were pretty easy.
The asynchronous gen psych course is really organized and perfectly set up. Each week, you have one slideshow to go over and one question, and you only have to do 10 out of the 14 weeks. You can also do it at your own pace, and finish it all within the first 2 weeks. The midterms were easy, and there's so many extra credit opportunities.
Pretty straightforward class (sensation and perception), but she's pretty unorganized with her content and often posts lectures late. Lectures are usually not the most interesting as she kind of just reads off her slides but a lot of extra credit given.
Clear grading criteria and room for plenty of extra credit. Exams are the majority of your grade (60%) with a combination of homework and DBQs. A bit unorganized with lecture content, but I give her the benefit of the doubt since we're attending class during a pandemic. Overal a nice professor and material is not hard to understand.
Gives plenty of extra credit throughout the semester. Great lecturer who did not read off the slides. Con is that she's very unorganized: lectures are posted randomly throughout the semester and her slides are not coherent. But overall an easy A! Her exams are based exactly on her slides.
This is a very straightforward class. Go to lectures, study the ppts, do the study guides and you will do well. Professor Carton is quirky and entertaining. She was always open to questions and encouraged participation. This was a class that made me feel calm while dealing with the chaos of college and other classes. I am truly happy I chose her.
The class itself was fine. She had 3 exams somewhat challenging exams and 4 homework assignments. Prof. Carton herself was very unhelpful and disrespectful to me. If you have any type of issue she takes a long time to respond or give feedback. If you're a student with a learning disability like myself and need help, id take a different professor.
Had Prof Carton online for drugs and human behavior. Super easy class and got an A without watching the lectures. She gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Her lectures are a bit boring because she reads off the slides, but her exams are pretty fair. Solid choice for easy A, but not so much if you actually want to learn.
Had her for asynchronous general psych. Very organized canvas page in terms of upcoming deadlines and due dates. She offers lots of extra credit so make sure to do those if you want to do well. We basically had weekly discussion posts, homework assignments, 1 midterm, and 1 final, noncumulative. Overall solid class if you want that easy A!
Professor Cartons class was very enjoyable for me. I took it online so if you just did her weekly DBQs and the three homeworks and did well on the midterms, then you can pass the class. Overall 10/10
Easiest class I have taken. There is 1 or 2 DBQs per week which are literally 1 question and on Fridays. There are 3 HW assignments, one per month which is also easy. Midterms and Final are also simple if you do study beforehand but it is also open notes for both. She always has office hours for questions and is easily reachable. 100% take her!
Super nice and helpful. Her lectures can get a little boring but you can put them in 2x speed. You really don't need the textbook so don't waste your money. Gives you the slides if you want to print them. Exams are straightforward. Gives extra credit and is always around if you need assistance on anything. Would take her again, especially online.
This section of Cognition is the one you need to be in! As long as you listen to lectures (even on 1.5 speed) you'll do well on exams. 3 exams, 4/5 homework assignments, and 1 extra credit opportunity. She breaks things down to make them easy to understand!
Super easy and super sweet. Offers up to 20% in extra credit so it is near impossible to not get an A unless you just don't watch the lectures at all.
Professor Carton is a very sweet and understanding woman. There are 3 exams throughout the course which aren't difficult as long as you take good notes & 1 homework DBQ due each Friday. Her lectures are also very organized and straightforward. 100% take her if you get the chance to!!
was easy all lecture videos posted I barely ever went. 3 quizzes and 1 dbq a week and some study thing that did not take long. Quizzes were open note but you do need to take notes on lectures but super easy compared to other teachers
This class is so easy, attendance isn't mandatory, all the exams are online and open note. She posts all the slides and recorded lectures. She's honestly so nice and funny. Absolutely willing to help, but you won't need it. If you're looking for an easy A gen psych with prof carton is the way to go!
one of the easiest classes i've ever taken. 3 open-note take home midterms, no cumulative final, 1 discussion post a week and just a research participation thing where you basically just answer surverys for grad students at rutgers. attendence isn't mandatory and prof know what shes talking about, willing to help too would 100% recommend
Prof Carton was one of the best teachers ever. Her lectures are not mandatory and she pretty much posts the entire semester's slides. You can work at your own pace and all her exams are open note. Take her if you get the chance.
Nice lady, lectures are not mandatory. Make sure to take notes for occasional quizzes. Exams are all online, gives credit for the Psych SONA program
Professor Carton was really nice and seemed to care about the topic. I thought her class was a really solid intro to psychology. All of her exams were online and there was no cumulative final. You are graded on discussion posts and online exam grades but she gives you ample time to prepare.
You will most likely pass this class, but if you ever face any problem with your grade, she won't do anything to help you. She goes off of what her TAs say and doesn't bother checking their mistakes herself. Does not respond to emails. Post homework assignments late and will still make it the same due date that's on the syllabus. Terrible person.
Easily best professor u can get at Rutgers. She posts all slides for every unit for the rest of the semester on Canvas, exams are all online, at home (open note) and covered only slides material, 1-2 questions/25 on something ad-libbed. Attendance NOT mandatory, responds to emails immediately even on weekends. Kind, cares about students, easy A
Super nice & understanding. Class isn't hard, she makes you do a Canvas discussion due every Friday. There are 14-15 and you're only required to do 10. If you exceed 10 they're counted as extra points, easy A. You should go through the Modules to make sure you get everything since they're in the tests, but exams are noncumulative and online.
Hard glass but she's very straightforward. If you'll do what you're supposed to you'll be just fine
Prof Carton is pretty average, best part is that her exams are online and noncumulative. Lectures aren't bad but can be a little boring. Biggest flaw is that she doesn't respond to emails which makes things a bit difficult.
Just the best professor ever at Rutgers. She is very sweet and explains the materials really well. All of her exams are online, and the final is non-cumulative.
soooo easy. the homework is one discussion post due every Friday and it takes about 2 minutes to write. all exams open note on canvas and can do them anywhere. def take her for gen psych
Has an easy class but good luck if you need to email her or address her about any problem you have. She is not understanding at all and will basically just tell you to figure it out and then laugh in your face. Also very jumpy during lectures. Will stop paying attention for one second and suddenly she's on a tangent about random stuff.
I took her for Gen Psych as a requirement. Highly recommend this prof. This class is an EASY A. All exams are online, multiple-choice, and you can take them wherever you want. You also have to complete weekly "DBQ" assignments due every Friday. But, you only have to complete 10 out of the 14 she assigns and they are literally so easy.
It was the easiest class I took all semester! Her exams were open-notes and online, and you only needed to complete a certain number of DBQs. She's a very caring professor. 10/10. I would totally take her again!
Only graded by quizzes and a few homework assignments. Quizzes were on the tough side since lecture notes did not really help. Attendance was not mandatory but was helpful if you went to class since she mentions stuff that would be on the quizzes.
Boring lectures and she rambles way too much for an early morning class. Don't waste time going to lectures, you're better off Chatgpt'ing the quizzes tbh. She's not very accessible by email and she's unorganized. No exams, so grade is based on just quizzes and 5 HW assignments
such a great professor! attendance was not mandatory, and slides are posted. but, she is a great person and very uplifting so come to class! 3 exams, open note and online. homework was a discussion board every week, graded very leniently. extra credit if you do them all! great class, great teacher!
This course consists of 8 open-note quizzes, two homework assignments, extra credit and no final. Attendance was not mandatory, but would recommend it since some occasional information in lectures would appear on quiz. Sometimes slides were not helpful during quizzes. Overall, a simple class.
Professor Carton is really nice and is always willing to answer a question after class. There isn't a final exam and the quizzes, exams, and assignments are not hard if you go through her posted slides. Overall, not a difficult class even if you don't attend lecture.
Professor Carton is a very nice and understanding person!!! Her quizzes did not directly relate to her lectures but were open-notes. This class is very easy since the homeworks and exams are straightforward. I would definitely recommend her as a professor for this course.
When the class was asking for help on the homework and she said “I believe in you all. If you build it they will come. You can figure it out.” And did not help at all. Doesn't know how to teach.
Professor is actually horrible. She laughs at students who ask questions and never sounds like she has any idea what she's talking about. She assumes you already know everything she is teaching. Do not take if you don't have a heavy neuroscience and anatomy background. Exams are awful and she shows no compassion or empathy for her students.
unprepared and struggles to explain the material clearly. Slides lack key info, rarely get assignments. When we do, grading takes about a month. Tests are very difficult due to not being taught anything and lack of helpful resources, making it hard to learn or succeed in the course. Also very passive aggressive when asked questions or office hours.
she's simply not a good professor. everyone who rated her high previously was likely due to it being an online course, which it isn't anymore. she rambles, is passive aggressive towards students who ask questions, comes into class late, and released the syllabus past add/drop only for us to find out it was 80/20 (exams -> homework). save ur time.
Took her for Drugs and Human Behavior- was great then but for S&P shes very dismissive, refused to curve the first exam, and ignores students emails and concerns. Had to withdraw
I would never take this Professor ever again. She is very inaccessible out of class and isn't shy about it. She isn't a professor that enjoys teaching and has stated multiple times that she just wants to retire. If you have to take her class class DONT.
Her exam is really hard, even though it's open-book. Can't believe the average scores are 70% for the open-book exam. Her exam content is 30% from text textbook, but she's never used it during class. You have to read it yourself. Overall, if you want to get A, don'f take this class
She's changed a lot from her previous classes because this is the MOST tedious and hardest class. She isn't organized, doesn't put lecture material on exams, and never reviews exam question types. It's all yap in class, and at exam time, you're left struggling with the textbook and lecture slides, barely passing or failing.
She is very warm and kind! She gives extra credits for assignments, and it is easy to gain. Always patient to answer student's questions!
Unfortunately, there's a character limit. Every exam contained material we never learned. When anyone tried to speak to her she was rude and condescending. Wouldn't review exams with us in office hours even though final is cumulative. Came 30+ min late multiple times. No curve though 30% of the class failed??? Save yourself, you have other options.
Sarah carton is the epitome of terrible and evil awful human. She has little to no regard for her students and sees herself as above everyone because “previously students all passed her class”. She will degrade, abuse and ruin your will to learn. I would rather dance with the spawn of satan and drink the piss of a dead bull than take her again.
Many positive reviews are from when exams were online; they are now in person on paper. Exams are very difficult and extremely specific, even with notes allowed, and require heavy studying weeks in advance. Most of your grade is exam-based. Class averages are low, exams are long, no curve is given, and she is not very approachable.
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES! She is so rude to students and does not care about one's concerns and needs. Does not respond to emails. Her exams have nothing to do with what's spoken in lectures. She is always late to class and does not give enough time to complete exams. Previous ratings are good bc her tests were online, but not anymore.
This is the one and only class i ever withdrew from. The professor does not give the appropriate tools to succeed, is very condescending to those seeking help, didn't post the syllabus until after add/drop, lectures aren't relevant to the exam. There's so much more I can say, don't take this professor
You'd learn more reading the slides at home than going to her lectures. Slow, boring, late, inconsistent, and does not care about the students. Also didn't post the syllabus until after add/drop (turns out grades are 80% exams based). All the exams were open note though so exams were easy. And Extra credit might as well be mandatory. Terrible.
Easy class and interesting topic however professor carton gotta be bottom 5 people of all time. Acts so pretentious and plain rude at times and also extremely hard to reach by email since she provided the wrong email to students then blamed the students. Constantly late to lectures as well. Take the course with another prof if you can.
DO NOT TAKE HER! All the good reviews on here are from when she had online exams. Class is 80/20 exams/hw. She rambles on and on in lectures and talks about nothing. Her exams are bad. She claims everything you'll need is from her slides, but then pulls all the content from the textbook. Get ready to teach yourself. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Avoid this professor like the plague. Syllabus posted 1 month AFTER classes begin, talks bad about students to other classes (found out from other sections), never finishes slides in lecture, and blames you for not doing well. Did I mention she takes off points if you use the full exam time? Never met a prof with such little regard for students
AVOID this professor like the plague. Syllabus posted 1 month AFTER classes begin, listed the wrong email and doesn't respond to them, constantly sidetracks during lectures, blames you for not doing well in class, shows up late to exams. Exam avgs were in the 50s. Did I mention that points are deducted for using the full exam time?
